Abstract

In this paper, we present the overview of the DA-VINCIS 2023 shared task which was organized at IberLEF 2023 and co-located in the framework of the 39th International Conference of the Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing (SEPLN 2023). The main aim of this task is to promote the research on developing automatic solutions for detecting violent events in social networks. Two subtasks were considered: (i) A binary classification task aimed to determine whether or not a tweet is about a violent incident; and (ii) A multi-label multi-class classification task in which the category(ies) of a violent incident must be identified. A multimodal manual annotated corpus comprising both tweets and images associated to them was provided to the participants. A total of 15 systems were submitted for the final evaluation phase. Competitive results were obtained for both subtasks, the higher ones were in the binary classification task. Corpora and results are available at the shared task website at https://codalab.lisn.upsaclay.fr/competitions/11312., En este documento presentamos el resumen de la tarea DA-VINCIS 2023 organizada como parte del IberLEF 2023 junto con la 39a Conferencia Internacional de la Sociedad Española para el Procesamiento de Lenguaje Natural (SEPLN 2023). El principal objetivo de la tarea es promover la investigación en el desarrollo de soluciones automáticas para la detección de incidentes violentos en redes sociales. Se consideraron dos tareas: (i) Clasificación binaria cuyo objetivo es determinar si un tweet reporta o no un incidente violento, y (ii) Clasificación multietiqueta multiclase donde la categoría(s) de un incidente violento debe ser identificada. A los participantes de la tarea se les proporcionó un conjunto de datos multimodal anotado manualmente el cual contiene tanto tweets como imágenes relacionadas. Un total de 15 sistemas fueron enviados para la fase de evaluación. En ambas tareas se obtuvieron resultados competitivos, siendo los mejores aquellos de la tarea de clasificación binaria. Abstract

Breast cancer is a very important health concern around the world. Early detection of such a disease increases the chances of survival. Among the available screening tools, there is the Electro-Impedance Mammography (EIM), which is a novel and less invasive method that captures the potential difference stored in breast tissues under the assumption that electrical properties among normal and pathologically altered tissues are different. In this paper, we address breast cancer detection as a multi-class problem aiming to determine the corresponding label in terms of the Breast Imaging Electrical Impedance classification system, the standard used by physicians for interpreting an EIM mammogram. For experimental purposes, for the first time in the literature, we took advantage of a dataset comprising EIM of Mexican patients. Aiming to establish a baseline for this task, traditional supervised learning methods were used together with two different feature extraction techniques: raw pixel data and transfer learning. Besides, data augmentation was exploited for compensating data imbalance. Different experimental settings were evaluated reaching classification rates over 0.85 in F-score. KNN emerges as a very promising classifier for addressing this task. The obtained results allow us to validate the usefulness of traditional methods for classifying electro-impedance mammograms. Se obtuvo la mención internacional tras una estancia de 12 meses en la Universidad de Turin., PhD thesis in Computer Science written by Delia Irazú Hernández Farías under the supervision of Dr. Paolo Rosso (Universitat Politècnica de València) and Dra. Viviana Patti (University of Turin). This thesis was developed under a cotutelle between the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain and the University of Turin, Italy. The thesis defense was done in Valencia, Spain on September 25, 2017. The doctoral committee was integrated by: Horacio Saggion (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Elisabetta Fersini (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca), and Roberto Basili (Univerità di Roma Tor Vergata). The International mention was achieved after a 12 months internship at University of Turin.

La collana pubblica gli atti del convegno annuale di Linguistica Computazionale (CLiC-it), che ha lo scopo di costituire un luogo di discussione di riferimento nel campo delle ricerce sulla linguistica computazionale. Gli atti includono interventi sul trattamento automatico della lingua, comprendenti le riflessioni teoriche e metodologiche sul tema, e forniscono un contributo importante per questo campo di ricerca. Le altre tematiche principali sono: la linguistica computazionale, la linguistica, le scienze cognitive, l'apprendimento automatico, l'informatica, la rappresentazione della conoscenza, l'information retrieval e l'umanistica digitale. L'organizzazione del convegno è il risultato dello sforzo dell'Associazione Italiana di Linguistica Computazionale (AILC http://www.ai-lc.it/), rappresentata ogni anno da alcuni dei membri organizzatori, che sono affiliati anche ad altre organizzazioni che operano nell'ambito della linguistica computazionale. This book presents the proceedings of the annual Conference of Computational Linguistics (CLiC-it), which aims to provide a forum for discussion in the field of computational linguistics. The proceedings include interventions on the automatic treatment of language, with theoretical and methodological reflections on the subject, and provide an important contribution to this field of research. The other main topics are: computational linguistics, linguistics, cognitive sciences, automatic learning, computer science, knowledge representation, information retrieval and digital humanities. The organization of the conference is the result of the effort of the Italian Association of Computational Linguistics (AILC http://www.ai-lc.it/), represented every year by some of the organizing members, who are also affiliated to other organizations operating in the field of computational linguistics.

Abstract

The annual conference CLIC–it (''Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics'') is an initiative of the ''Italian Association of Computational Linguistics'' (AILC – www.ai-lc.it) which is intended to meet the need for a national and international forum for the promotion and dissemination of high-level original research in the field of Computational Linguistics (CL), with particular emphasis on Italian. The volume gathers the Proceedings of the ''Third Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics'' (CLiC–it 2016), held in Naples on 5-6 December 2016. The CLiC–it 2016 papers cover a wide range of topics in the area of computational linguistics and natural language (both written and spoken) processing, by targeting state–of–art theoretical results, experimental methodologies, technologies and application perspectives, and by addressing challenges, open issues and new perspectives related to current and novel trends of the discipline.
