Abstract

The Force Concept Inventory is a test to determine the level of conceptual knowledge of students about mechanical physics and to evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching strategies on the conceptual component of learning. The test was applied with the purpose of knowing the level of conceptualization of the students who study the subject of Physics in a basic and medium educational institution. The results of the pre-test gave to know the students' level of conceptualization and offered information for the elaboration of workshops based on real physical situations to elaborate force diagrams. The results of the post-test allowed estimating Hake's learning gain and showed evidence about the students' conceptual evolution and information to develop future teaching activities about Newton's laws. Abstract

La importancia de la educación para promover los procesos inherentes a la innovación, y emprendimiento se hace de vital importancia actualmente en la formación profesional, ello vincula a su vez el impacto que conlleva en variables macroeconómicas como el crecimiento económico y desarrollo de una economía. En ese sentido, el objetivo general de la investigación es explicar la influencia de la educación en variables como la innovación, el emprendimiento y su impacto en el crecimiento y desarrollo, en este particular, en países de América Latina. Desde el punto de vista metodológico se hace revisión documental con respecto a las proyecciones futuras en el marco de estas variables, y un análisis estadístico de casos como América, Europa y Asia, a modo de integrar las diferentes experiencias y modelos, tomando de referencia los resultados que en la praxis actualmente sean cónsonas a cada uno en particular. Finalmente, se concluye la importancia de enmarcar en la educación la congruencia y coherencia pragmática de los objeticos de políticas públicas en materia de innovación, investigación, ciencia y tecnología, lo que a su vez propicia el efecto multiplicador en sinergia con sector privado empresarial, impulsando entre ambos variables como el crecimiento, la pobreza y el desarrollo.

4. Gestión tecnológica estratégica: uso del ecosistema de la web social 2.0 en educación superior

Abstract

El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar la gestión tecnológica estratégica a partir de los docentes de la universidad Francisco de Paula Santander, para vigilar y focalizar el empleo del ecosistema de la Web 2.0 en la educación superior. La investigación, se inscribió dentro un enfoque cuantitativo; a nivel descriptivo y diseño de campo, enmarcado en la modalidad de investigación proyectiva. La muestra estuvo conformada por 40 docentes y como instrumento se utilizó la encuesta. El estudio mostró que vigilar la gestión tecnológica para el análisis interno provee una prospectiva a la cual podría focalizar cualquier transformación educativa en el contexto digital que emprenda la universidad en el empleo de ecosistemas de la Web social 2.0. Se concluyó que los principales desafíos que se encuentran en las innovaciones son las capacidades tecnológicas de los actores educativos al administrar la gestión tecnológica en el ecosistema de la Web social 2.0.

16. Presence of triatominae (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) and risk of transmission of Chagas disease in Colima, México.

Abstract

With the purpose of evaluating the risk of transmission of the Chagas disease in the State of Colima, México, an entomological survey was performed to obtain triatominae and the rate of infection by Trypanosoma cruzi determined by examination of its dejections. Two hundred eighteen houses located in 16 villages were sampled. In each house the intradomestic and peridomestic habitats were examined by the man-hour-house method, sensor boxes and mouse-baited traps. Also, 12 silvatic places were explored around the same areas using the same techniques as the ones sampled. In total, 456 specimens were captured, of which 139 correspond to Triatoma phyllosoma pallidipennis; 80 to T.p. longipennis; one specimen of T. dimidiata and 236 nymphs of Triatoma sp. Two hundred ninety seven insects were captured in the intradomestic habitat, 132 in the peridomestic and 26 in the silvatic. The index of positive houses was 27%, located in the central area of the state. The rate of natural infection with T. cruzi showed 25.6%. This results confirmed the presence of two important vectors of the Chagas disease in Colima. Its preference for the domestic habitat and its high levels of natural infection with T. cruzi suggested the existence of a significant risk for its transmission in this area of the country.

18. Measuring HIV vaccine efficacy.

Abstract

Some HIV vaccine candidates have a potential VEI (vaccine efficacy for infectiousness) type effect, which tends to reduce the viral load and may reduce infectiousness of an infected individual. In general, the efficacy of this kind of vaccine is very difficult to assess because it requires information on contacts of vaccinated infected individuals, and current methods to estimate VEI rely on the time elapsed between infections of an individual and his/her sexual partner, thus making infection of the sexual partner necessary to assess the efficacy. To avoid behavioural changes that may affect the estimates, HIV status is kept undisclosed to participants, which raises many ethical questions. Here we present a method that allows immediate notification of HIV status to both members of a couple, reducing the risk of infection when one of them has not been infected and allowing immediate medical treatment. The method allows for estimation of any VEI and VES (vaccine efficacy for susceptibility) effect, and it is robust to the most common situations found in these type of studies, namely: differential risk of participants, staggered enrollment and small sample sizes.
