This study explores the advanced mathematical modeling of electromagnetic energy harvesting in vehicle suspension systems, addressing the pressing need for sustainable transportation and improved energy efficiency. We focus on the complex challenge posed by the non-linear behavior of magnetic flux in relation to displacement, a critical aspect often overlooked in conventional approaches. Utilizing Taylor expansion and Fourier analysis, we dissect the intricate relationship between oscillation and electromagnetic damping, crucial for optimizing energy recovery. Our rigorous mathematical methodology enables the precise calculation of the average power per cycle and unit mass, providing a robust metric for evaluating the effectiveness of energy harvesting. Further, the study extends to the practical application in a combined system of passive and electromagnetic suspension, demonstrating the real-world viability of our theoretical findings. This research not only offers a comprehensive solution for enhancing vehicle efficiency through advanced suspension systems but also sets a precedent for the integration of complex mathematical techniques in solving real-world engineering challenges, contributing significantly to the future of energy-efficient automotive technologies. The cases reviewed in this article and listed as references are those commonly found in the literature.

Tennis is a sport with a very complex technique. Amateur tennis players have trainers and/or coaches, but are not usually accompanied by them to championships. Curiously, in this sport, the result of many matches can be changed by a small hint like ‘hit the ball a little higher when serving’. However, the biomechanical of a tennis stroke is only clear to an expert. We, therefore, developed a prototype of a rule-based expert system (RBES) aimed at an amateur competition player that is not accompanied by his/her coach to a championship and is not serving as usual (the RBES is so far restricted to serving). The player has to answer a set of questions about how he/she is serving that day and his/her usual serving technique and the RBES obtains a diagnosis using logic inference about the possible reasons (according of the logic rules that have been previously given to the RBES). A certain knowledge of the tennis terminology and technique is required from the player, but that is something known at this level. In the automobile sector, energy recovery and sustainability are becoming more and more important, and energy-harvesting suspension systems (EHSAs) have a lot of promise to improve vehicle efficiency. This investigation expands on prior work that investigated the viability of an EHSA that uses permanent magnets and amorphous core coils. The performance of the proposed system is demonstrated and enhanced in the current study through the development and optimization of a prototype. A thorough testing of the prototype is performed to determine design improvements for boosting the system’s overall performance and to quantify the recovered energy. In previous work, a method was proposed to find the dependence of the magnetic flux with the relative position between the primary and secondary elements to obtain the optimal position for the system. This method is applied to optimize the energy harvesting coil by testing different configurations in terms of the placement and type of amorphous or nonamorphous core inside the energy harvesting coil. This is a crucial area of attention in order to maximize energy recovery while solving the low-frequency problem that suspension systems have (on the order of 10 Hz).

The inclusion of La-Mn vacancies in LaMnO3 nanoparticles leads to a noticeable change in conductivity behavior. The sample retains its overall insulator characteristic, with a typical thermal activation mechanism at high temperatures, but it presents high magnetoconductivity below 200 K. The activation energy decreases linearly with the square of the reduced magnetization and vanishes when the sample is magnetized at saturation. Therefore, it turns out that electron hopping between Mn3+ and Mn4+ largely contributes to the conductivity below the Curie temperature. The influence of the applied magnetic field on conductivity also supports the hypothesis of hopping contribution, and the electric behavior can be explained as being due to an increase in the hopping probability via spin alignment.

We explore a simple and optimized approach for obtaining magnetic nanoparticle-carbon composites by a novel one-pot sol-gel method. In them, various metal cations ratios of Fe3+ and Co2+ are evaluated. The ratio of Fe:Co is a critical parameter that governs the presence of different crystalline phases with tailored magnetic properties. Interestingly, the smallest introduction of Co into the synthesis (19Fe:1Co) provides an abrupt emergence of the body-centered cubic (bcc) Fe-Co alloy, instead of the orthorhombic Pnma structure characteristic of the Fe3C intermetallic compound (1Fe:0Co). Advanced structural and electronic characterizations reveal the formation of Fe-Co/Co-ferrite core/shell nanoparticle structures embedded in a carbon matrix. The sphere-like nanoparticles range from 10 to 45 nm and the shells show a spinel structure with a thickness of 2–3 nm. In addition, X-ray absorption spectroscopy unveils that the oxidation state of Fe and Co cations is close to zero, demonstrating their predominant metallic character. The magnetic properties can be modulated by a precise control of the alloy composition varying the Co content, displaying saturation magnetization values close to ∼137 emu/g. The nanoparticles are mainly single magnetic domain with a considerable coercive field (∼450 Oe), higher than those reported in the literature for Fe-Co nanoparticles. This semi-hard character is due to a notable spring exchange effect emerged by passivating the surface of Fe-Co-bcc cores with a thin Co-ferrite-like shell.

[EN] In this report, a method is proposed for determining the fluctuations of physical and structural properties in metallic ferromagnetic samples by magnetic scanning. The method is based on the shielding of a circular loop electromagnetic field source using a ferromagnetic and metallic sheet. The shielding of the electromagnetic field depends on the field frequency and amplitude as well as the electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability of the sheet. The proposed method does not require winding around the sheet. The experimental AC shielding results are reported.
