Abstract

The hop cyst nematode, Heterodera humuli, is the most common plant-parasitic nematode associated with hop worldwide. This study reports the draft genome of H. humuli generated on the PacBio Sequel IIe System with the ultra-low DNA input HiFi sequencing method, and the corresponding genome annotation. This genome resource will help further studies on H. humuli and other cyst nematodes.

Abstract

In this paper we will demonstrate the urgent necessity of a linked data policy that includes a normative framework and implementation technique for research projects in computa- tional history and, more generally, in computational humanities. Rather than discussing the subject on an abstract level, we will instead apply examples from own experiences linking data located in different repositories. We will primarily focus on the repository of the long-term research project «Repertorium academicum germanicum» (RAG)1. To begin, we will explain our motivation to build connections between different datasets, followed by a discussion of our methodology in navigating other repositories. In the conclu- sion, we will offer suggestions concerning future research and policy in computational history.

Abstract

This paper describes how a 3D object capturing is performed by kinematic terrestrial laser scanning (k-TLS) using a novel multi-sensor system (MSS). Due to the high accuracy requirements of s3D = 1 mm, special requirements arise. Here, a profile laser scanner on a mobile platform is moved along the object and highly accurate georeferenced by a laser tracker. This enables an efficient acquisition of large objects, resulting in a time reduction of up to 70 % compared to static terrestrial laser scanning (s-TLS). The main developments presented in the paper concern the topics: mobile platforms (types and damping), system calibration, high-accurate pointwise georeferencing and the final quality assessment of the data.

43. Assessment of socio-economic and climate change impacts on water resources in four European lagoon catchments

Abstract

This study demonstrates the importance of considering potential land use and management changes in climate impact research. By taking into account possible trends of economic development and environmental awareness, we assess effects of global warming on water availability and quality in the catchments of four European lagoons: Ria de Aveiro (Portugal), Mar Menor (Spain), Vistula Lagoon (Poland and Russia), and Tyligulskyi Liman (Ukraine). Different setups of the process-based soil and water integrated model (SWIM), representing one reference and four socio-economic scenarios for each study area: the “business as usual”, “crisis”, “managed horizons”, and “set-aside” scenarios are driven by sets of 15 climate scenarios for a reference (1971–2000) and near future (2011–2040) scenario period. Modeling results suggest a large spatial variability of potential impacts across the study areas, due to differences in the projected precipitation trends and the current environmental and socio-economic conditions. While climate change may reduce water and nutrients input to the Ria de Aveiro and Tyligulsyi Liman and increase water inflow to the Vistula Lagoon the socio-economic scenarios and their implications may balance out or reverse these trends. In the intensely managed Mar Menor catchment, climate change has no notable direct impact on water resources, but changes in land use and water management may certainly aggravate the current environmental problems. The great heterogeneity among results does not allow formulating adaptation or mitigation measures at pan-European level, as initially intended by this study. It rather implies the need of a regional approach in coastal zone management.

In 1987, three unrelated English families were reported with a putative blood subgroup called Apae. Swedish researchers later found evidence leading to abolishment of the Apae subgroup and establishment instead of the FORS blood group system (System 31 - ISBT, 2012). It is important to know the prevalence of antibodies in order to make the best decisions in transfusion medicine. Cells expressing the Forssman saccharide, such as sheep erythrocytes, are needed to detect the anti-Forssman antibody.
