Background/Aim: This research was performed to assess the validity and reliability of the “PedsQL-Pediatric Pain Coping Inventory” for use in children and parents in Turkey. Methods: The study was designed as methodological-descriptive. The sample group of the study was composed of 300 children and mothers. The data were obtained by using the Sociodemographic Questionnaire and “Parent and Child Forms of the PedsQL-Pediatric Pain Coping Inventory (PedsQL-PPCI).” Results: Cronbach's alpha values for the child and parent forms were 0.82 and 0.89, respectively. The indices of Model Fit for child reports were determined to be RMSA = 0.070, GFI = 0.88 and CFI = 0.91. In the construct validity testing, the KMO value was 0.83 and Bartlett’s sphericity test resulted in 4244.75 (p < .001) and R2 = 71.97%. The indices of Model Fit for parent reports were determined to be RMSA = 0.08, GFI = 0.86 and CFI = 0.94. In the construct validity testing, the KMO value was 0.83 and Bartlett’s sphericity test resulted in 4973.95 (p < .001) and R2 = 66.86%. Conclusions: Our results showed that the scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used as a pediatric pain coping inventory for Turkish parents and children. The PedsQL-PPCI is a convenient tool for professionals in managing and preventing pediatric pain.

Kronik miyeloid lösemi (KML), kemik iliğindeki hematopoietik kök hücrelerin monoklonal çoğalmasıyla karakterize myeloproliferatif bir hastalıktır. Gebelikte KML oldukça nadir görülür, tahmin edilen yıllık insidansı 100.000 gebelikte 1’dir. KML gebelikte görülen lösemilerin %10’undan azını oluşturur. Gebelikte löseminin tedavi ve bakım süreci, anne ve bebek sağlığı açısından son derece önemlidir. Lösemili gebe olguların hemşirelik bakımının önemine dikkat çekmek ve daha etkin bir hemşirelik bakımına ilişkin farkındalık oluşturmak amacı ile 27 yaşında, 5 aylık gebe, KML tanılı olgu ele alındı. KML tedavisi altında sağlıklı canlı doğum yaptırıldı. Gebelik ve pospartum hemşirelik bakımı gerçekleştirildi., Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disease characterized by monoclonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow. CML is extremely rare in pregnancy, with an estimated annual incidence of 1 in 100,000 pregnancies. CML is less than 10% of leukemias seen in pregnancy. The treatment and care process of leukemia during pregnancy is extremely important in terms of maternal and infant health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the importance of nursing care of pregnant women with leukemia and to develop awareness of more effective nursing care. Healthy live birth was performed under CML treatment. Pregnancy and pospartum nursing care were performed.

It is necessary to provide a nursing education that includes sufficient theoretical and practical education in order to respond to the health problems and needs of the society and to train nurses who are open to learning and are aware of their social responsibility. During their nursing education, students may face various interpersonal and environmental stressors that affect their learning and performance. Students experience different levels of anxiety and stress during their nursing education. Nursing students' fear of failing exams and problems caused by the professor, team conflicts in the clinical environment, difficulties experienced during patient care, pain and suffering of patients, lack of knowledge, inability to cope in emergency situations, the attitude of clinical staff to the student, theoretical training in the clinic Problems such as incompatibility are cited as a source of stress. Students can give physiological, emotional and behavioral reactions due to the stress they experience. Stress in the nursing education process can negatively affect students' learning and performance. Individuals use different methods of coping with stress, depending on their individual characteristics. Effective use of methods of coping with stress contributes to the successful coping of stressful situations that individuals encounter in their life. This review was conducted in order to draw attention to the stress experienced by students during their nursing education and the approaches to control this stress.

In this study. it was aimed to determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) and the factors that may affect the occurrence of SD in patients receiving hemodialysis treatment. The sample of the study consists of 49 patients (20 females. 29 males) receiving treatment in the hemodialysis unit of a university hospital. The data of the study were collected through a general information form including socio-demographic characteristics and risk factors. Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). International Assessment Form for Erectile Function (IIEF) and Quality of Life Scale (SF-36). In our study. SD was detected in all patient groups. While the most affected area was seen to be orgasmic function and the least affected area was sexual desire in famales. the most affected area was found to be orgasmic function and the least affected area was erectile dysfunction in males. Such factors as age. profession. having a child. working status and duration of hemodialysis were found to affect occurrence of SD. There was a relationship between all sub-dimensions of sexual function and quality of life in male and female subjects. In conclusion. sexual dysfunction is commonly encountered in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment. In these patients. psychosocial factors as well as disease-related factors have an effect on SD. Therefore. SD should be evaluated together with disease-related factors as well as psychosocial factors in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

Allojenik kök hücre nakli (AKHN) yapılan hastalarda BK virüsü hemorajik sistiti (BKV-HS), potansiyel bir morbidite ve mortalite nedenidir. BKV reaktivasyonu, asemptomatik viral enfeksiyondan hemorajik sistit veya nefrite kadar değişen farklı sorunlara neden olabilir. Ayrıca, uzun süre hastanede kalışa neden olabilir. Özellikle, hematopoietik kök hücre nakli alıcılarında egrafman sonrası gelişen akut hemorajik sistitin BK virüsü ile ilişkili olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu derlemede, AKHN uygulanan hastalarda görülebilecek BKV-HS’ in önemine dikkat çekilmekte, hemşirelerin bu hasta grubunda BKV ile ilişkili hemorajik sistiti önleme ve yönetmedeki rolüne değinilmektedir.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada diyabetli bireylerde aile desteği ile yaşam kalitesi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini, Balıkesir Devlet Hastanesi Endokrinoloji Kliniği’nde tedavi gören bireyler; araştırmanın örneklemini ise araştırmaya dahil edilme kriterlerine uyan ve araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 260 diyabetli birey oluşturmuştur. Veri toplama formları olarak; Anket Formu, Hensarling’in Aile desteği ölçeği, Diyabete Özgü Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Yaşam Kalitesinin alt boyutu olan aile durumu puanı ile Hensarling’in Diyabet Aile Destek Ölçeği toplam puanı ve alt boyut puanlarıyla arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki vardır. Aile durumu puanı arttıkça Hensarling’ in Diyabet Aile Destek Ölçeği toplam puanı da artmaktadır. Diğer alt boyut puanlar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki bulunmamaktadır. Sonuç: Diyabetli bireylerin Yaşam Kalitesi alt boyut puanı olan aile durumu puanı arttıkça Aile Desteği Ölçeği toplam puanı ve alt boyut puanları artmaktadır., Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between family support and quality of life in individuals with diabetes.Materials and Methods: The universe of the study consisted of individuals receiving treatment in the Endocrinology Clinic of Balıkesir State Hospital. On the other hand, the sample of the study was made up of 260 individuals with diabetes who met the inclusion criteria and volunteered to participate in the study. Data collection forms included a questionnaire form, Hensarling's Diabetes Family Support Scale, and the Diabetes-Specific Quality of Life Scale. Results: A statistically significant relationship was found between the family status score, which is the sub-dimension of the Quality of Life Scale, and the total score of Hensarling’s Diabetes Family Support Scale and its sub-dimension scores. As the family status score increased, the total score of the Hensarling’s Diabetes Family Support Scale increased as well. There was no statistically significant relationship between the scores of other subscales.Conclusion: As the score of the family status subscale of the Quality of Life Scale of the individuals with diabetes increased, the total score of the Family Support Scale and its subscales increased as well.

Objective: This study was conducted with the purpose of analysing the effect to diabetes related knowledge and habits of distance learning via videos through mobile phones in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Method: The universe of the study was composed of individuals with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to the diabetes polyclinic of Balikesir Atatürk City Hospital between July 2018-January 2019 whereas the sample group was composed of 100 individuals with Type 2 diabetes in total who met the inclusion criteria of the study and agreed to participate in the study; 50 of them being in the learning group, and the remaining 50 being in the control group. Data collection was performed using the Questionnaire on Diagnosing Individuals with Diabetes and Follow-up form. Data collection forms were applied to the learning and control groups in the first interview. After the first interview, the control group continued to be provided with routine follow-ups in the polyclinic. In the learning group, videos containing 8 episodes of diabetes education were sent to mobile phones of individuals twice a week. In the second interview that took place after 3 months of the completion of training, data collection forms were applied to the learning and control group for the second time. Results: In the study, it was observed that the knowledge level about diabetes increased in the learning group after education via videos were provided to individuals, that the rate of acute complications decreased, that there was a statistically significant difference compared to the control group in terms of complying with the treatment and diet, and the habit of doing exercises. Conclusion:In our study, we demonstrated that the distance learning via videos through mobile phone was an effective method on diabetes related knowledge and habits of Type 2 diabetes., Amaç: Bu çalışma, tip 2 diyabetli bireylere mobil telefonları aracılığı ile uzaktan verilen video eğitimin diyabetle ilgili bilgi ve alışkanlıklara etkisini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi. Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini Temmuz 2018-Ocak 2019 tarihleri arasında Balıkesir Atatürk Şehir Hastanesi diyabet polikliniğine başvuran tip 2 diyabetli bireyler; örneklemi ise araştırmaya dahil edilme kriterlerine uyan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 50 eğitim grubu ve 50 kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 100 Tip 2 diyabetli birey oluşturdu. Verilerin toplanmasında, Diyabetli Birey Tanılama ve Takip Formu kullanıldı. Eğitim grubuna ve kontrol grubuna ilk görüşmede veri toplama formları uygulandı. İlk görüşmeden sonra, kontrol grubu rutin poliklinik takiplerini almaya devam etti. Eğitim grubunda ise bireylerin cep telefonlarına haftada iki kez, toplamda sekiz bölüm diyabet eğitimi videosu gönderildi. Eğitimin tamamlanmasından üç ay sonra olan ikinci görüşmede eğitim grubuna ve kontrol grubuna veri toplama formları tekrar uygulandı. Bulgular: Araştırmada; bireylere verilen video eğitim sonrası eğitim grubunda; diyabetle ilgili bilgi düzeyinin arttığı, akut komplikasyon yaşama oranının azaldığı, düzenli kan şekeri takibi yapanların oranının arttığı, tedaviye uyum, diyete uyum ve düzenli egzersiz yapma alışkanlığında kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık olduğu saptandı.Sonuç:Çalışmamızda mobil telefonları aracılığı ile uzaktan verilen video eğitimin Tip 2 diyabetli bireylerin diyabetle ilgili bilgi ve alışkanlıkları üzerinde etkili bir yöntem olduğu belirlendi.

Objective: Physiological and/or psychological problems that affect the quality of life of the patients occur depending on the diagnosis and treatment of hematological malignancies. Cancer treatment causes sexual problems such as infertility, vaginal dryness, and erectile dysfunction in the patients. Erectile dysfunction and loss of sexual desire are the most common sexual problems of men, while dyspareunia and loss of sexual desire are the most common sexual problems of women. This descriptive study was carried out to evaluate sexual problems and affecting factors in the patients with hematological cancer. Methods: Between July 1, 2011, and July 31, 2011, 45 sexually active patients who volunteered to participate in the study and whose written consents were obtained were included in the study. The data of the study were collected using the descriptive characteristics form prepared by the researchers based on the relevant literature and the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX). The scale scores range from 5 to 30 and a score of >11 above indicates sexual dysfunction. Results: Sexual dysfunction was observed in 62.2% of the patients. About 80.0% of women and 57.1% of men had sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction was observed to be highest between the ages of 52–71 (81.2%) years. The mean total ASEX score was 15.90 ± 4.25 in women and 13.34 ± 5.37 in men. The ability to reach orgasm subscale score was found to differ by gender in the ASEX scale (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction is high in the patients with hematological malignancies. It is recommended to evaluate these patients in terms of the presence of sexual dysfunction, as in the patients with other chronic diseases.

Amac: Bu calismanin amaci, kadinlara yonelik hazirlanmis olan web sayfalarinin iceriklerinin degerlendirilmesidir.Gerec ve Yontemler: Bu calisma, Turkiye’de en cok kullanilan arama motoru olan Google’da “kadin sagligi”, “ kadin ve saglik” anahtar kelimeleri kullanilarak yapilmistir. Arastirmada tarama sirasinda ilk sirada olan 25 web sayfasi degerlendirmeye alinmistir. Ilgili web sayfalarinda kadin sagligina yonelik bilgiler arastirmacilar tarafindan literatur dogrultusunda hazirlanan kontrol listesi 22 madde kullanilarak degerlendirilmistir. Veriler SPSS 22.00 programinda degerlendirilmis, bulgular sayi ve yuzde olarak verilmistir.Bulgular: Web sayfalarinin tamaminda cesitli hastalik nedenlerine yonelik bilgiler yer almaktadir. Yariya yakininda %48 hastaliktan korunma yollari, tedavi ve yasam kalitesi ile ilgili bilgiler mevcuttur. Incelenen web sayfalarinin cok az bir oraninda %28 guncelleme yapildigi, bilgi iceriklerinin buyuk bir kisminda da kaynak gosterildigi %72 belirlenmistir. Web sayfalarinin yariya yakininda hekimler referans olarak yer almaktadir. Web sayfalarinin %74’de konu ile ilgili resim mevcuttur, %56’sinda konuyla ilgili farkli bir link bulunmaktadir ve %52 ’inde tibbi terminolojinin kullanilmadigi gorulmektedir.Sonuc: Kadin sagligi ile ilgili web sayfalarinin icerigi ve kapsami farkliliklar gostermektedir. Teknoloji ve bilimsel bilgi her gun hizla degistiginden web sayfalarinda yer alan bilgilerin de hem guncel hem de dogru olmasi gereklidir. D vitamini, obezite, kas iskelet sistemi, kronik hastalıklar, böbrek hastalıkları, kanserler (kolon, prostat, meme vb.), kardiyovasküler hastalıklar, metabolik sendrom, otoimmün hastalıklar (multipl skleroz, romatoid artrit vb.) ile ilişkili olduğu bilinmektedir. Son yıllarda yapılan çalışmalarda, D vitaminin cinsellik üzerine de etkisi olduğu belirtilmektedir. D vitamini her iki cinste de cinsel yaşamın yanı sıra üreme fonksiyonunu da etkilemektedir. D vitamini eksikliğinin cinsel yaşamı primer olarak etkilediği gibi, neden olduğu hastalıklar nedeniyle sekonder olarak da etkileyebileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu derleme, D vitaminin cinsellik üzerine etkisinin gözden geçirilmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Vitamin D is known to be related with obesity, musculoskeletal, chronic diseases, kidney diseases, cancers (colon, prostate, breast, etc.), cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, autoimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.). Recent studies indicate that vitamin D also has an effect on sexuality. Vitamin D affects sexual life as well as reproductive function in both sexes. As of vitamin D deficiency affects sexual life as the primary cause is thought to affect as secondary diseases that are due. This review was conducted to review the effect of vitamin D on sexuality.

Çalışma, romatolojik hastalıklarda sosyal destek ve bakım veren yükü düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak yapıldı. Çalış-maya 271 hasta ve yakını dahil edildi. Çalışmanın verileri, araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan “Hasta Tanıtım Formu”, “Hasta Yakını Tanıtım Formu” ile “Sağlığı Değerlendirme Anketi (HAQ)”, “Çok Boyutlu Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği” ve “Bakım Veren Yükü Ölçe-ği” ile toplandı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis ve Spearman korelasyon analizleri yapıldı. Hasta yakınla-rının %82.3’ü kadın, hastaya yakınlığının ise çoğunluğunda eş/çocuk olduğu belirlendi. Hastalık tanısı açısından bakım yükünde anlamlı fark bulunamadı (p>0.05). Hastaların aktif hastalığı, eklem deformitesi, sistemik tutulumu, artmış semptom şiddetinin, bakım verenlerin ise; kötü ekonomik durumu, hasta ile birlikte yaşaması, bakım verme süresinin fazlalığı ve sosyal destek düzeyinin düşüklüğü bakım yükünü artıran faktörler olarak belirlendi. Fiziksel kısıtlılığın eşlik ettiği kronik hastalıklarda, hastanın olduğu kadar hastaya bakım verenin de olumsuz etkileneceği unutulmamalıdır.

Amac :Romanlar genel populasyona kiyasla kronik hastalik gibi saglik sorunlari, engellilik, is ve gunluk faaliyetlerle ilgili sinirlamalar ile karsi karsiyadirlar. Bu calisma Romanlarin kronik hastalik durumlarini ve saglikla iliskili yasam kalitesini (HQOL) etkileyen sosyodemografik ozelliklerini incelemek amaciyla planlanmistir. Gerec ve Yontem: Kesitsel tipteki bu calisma 1 Subat-30 Nisan 2015 tarihleri arasinda Zonguldak ilinde Karaelmas Aile Sagligi Merkezi’ne basvuran 317 Roman uzerinde yapilmistir. 18 yas ve ustu olan, iletisim engeli olmayan ve calismaya katilmaya istekli Romanlar arastirmaya dahil edilmistir. Veriler arastirmacilar tarafindan hazirlanan, sosyodemografik ozellikleri ve hastalik varligini sorgulayan 11 maddeden olusan anket formu ve SF-36 yasam kalitesi olcegi ile toplanmistir. Bulgular ve Sonuc : Romanlarda en yaygin gorulen kronik hastalik hipertansiyondur. Yani sira % 19,4’unde eslik eden kronik bir hastalik vardir. This study was conducted in order to determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction and factors affecting sexual dysfunction (SD) in male patients with diabetes. Diabetes is a public health problem. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is seen in nearly half of all males who have had diabetes for more than 10 years. Erectile dysfunction, metabolic and psychological factors are involved in the emergence. A descriptive was conducted and questionnaire was used in this study. Data was gathered via general knowledge form which consists of socio-demographic characteristics and risk factors, International Index of Erectile Function, Quality of Life Scale (SF-36), Beck Depression Inventory, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale, and Body Image Scale. SD was determined in 48 % of our cases. The most affected domain among the cases was erectile function (33.1 %) and intercourse satisfaction (29.1 %), and the least affected domain was sexual desire (6.3 %). Most of the male cases with ED had mild and moderate ED (42.6 %). Factors affecting SD’s included age, education level, obesity, hypertension, retinopathy, vasculopathy, nephropathy, diabetic foot, HBA1C and LDL levels, diabetes duration, drugs used. All quality of life subgroups scores were lower in male patients with SD than patients without SD except for pain. Depression and body image scores were lower in male patients with SD. SD’s are affected by both metabolic and psychosocial factors. Sexual dysfunction in men with diabetes should be routinely evaluated.

This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine the knowledge levels and attitudes of doctors and nurses regarding children’s sexual development and sex education. The study was conducted with doctors and nurses who work at various clinics of two state hospitals located in the province of Istanbul. The data collection tool consisted of 58 questions. The Statistical Program for the Social Sciences, version 18.0 (SPSS 18.0) was used for data analysis. It was determined that females comprised the majority of the respondents (61 %) and were over 36 years of age (54.1 %) (37.81 ± 8.82). Of the participants in the study, 63.5 % had bachelor’s degrees and 62.1 % were medical doctors. It was determined that the number of correct responses given by the respondents regarding some behaviors observed in children aged between 3 and 6 years and children’s sexual development and sex education showed significant differences according to age group (p = 0.007), marital status (p = 0.004), the status of having children (p = 0.004), educational status (p = 0.005) and occupation (p = 0.000). However, in a review of the study findings, it was observed that culture had an important impact on sex-related approaches and that embarrassment and shyness is very common. © 2015, The Author(s).

Aim The aim of our study was, echocardiographic epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness could show the severity and the prognosis of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Methods and Results Sixty-five ACS patients (mean age 57.4 ± 12.2 years) who underwent coronary angiography were studied. EAT thickness on the free wall of right ventricle was measured at end-diastole from the parasternal long-axis views of 3 cardiac cycles. The objective of this sBackground: The objective of this study was to determine what complementary and alternative therapies are used in cases of childhood cancer, the frequency of their use and the factors that affect the tendency to resort to these therapies. Materials and Methods: The study, of cross-sectional design, was conducted with the parents of 101 children diagnosed with cancer, using a questionnaire and the technique of face-to-face interviews. Mean scores, percentages, chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used in the statistical analysis. During the study, interviews were held with 42.6% of the children's mothers and with the fathers of 44.6%. Results: The mean age of the children was 8.66±4.52 years. A group of 33.7% of the parents was making use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for their children. Of the parents, 76.5% stated that CAM had been instrumental in reducing a tumor, 53.8% said that their child's general condition had improved and 15.4% expressed an increase in morale. Another 41.2% concealed their use of CAM from their doctors and nurses. The parents that were interviewed: the age of the mother, the age of the father and the family's economic status were determining factors in the parents' use of CAM. The prevalence of the use of CAM among parents with children with cancer is not negligible. This study aims to determine the views and attitudes of nurses on sexual counseling. This qualitative study has been conducted with 103 nurses who work at a university hospital. Data have been gathered with a form developed by the researchers. In order to determine the level of competence, the Visual Analog Scale has been used, which is scored from 1 to 10. The SPSS 10.0 program has been used for data analysis. Data has been analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square tests techniques. Percentile distributions and means were also calculated. Only 17.5% of nurses previously performed sexual counseling and 88.9% of those did so without any request from the patient. Among those nurses, 72.2% perceived themselves as competent in the field and defined their level of proficiency as a mean 6.77 +/- A 51.79.27.8% were trained in the field of sexual problems and sexual counseling and 22.2% perceived their training in the field as sufficient.74.8% believed that their colleagues and themselves should receive specific training in the field and 63.1% demanded to receive this training. 55.6% reported that they referred patients to another health professional for sexual counseling when necessary. The average level of which nurses perceive themselves competent in providing sexual counseling is moderate and the level of which nurses can actually provide sexual counseling is insufficient. In order to prevent this problem, we recommend preparing training programs for nurses on sexual counseling which contain sufficient information.

The aim of this descriptive study was to investigate the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) applications and factors associated and its use among asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients in the southern region of Turkey. The study sample consisted of 197 patients. A percentage of 86.3 of asthma and COPD patients used at least one type of CAM. The most commonly used CAM methods are deep inhalation (51.8%), herb or herbal tea (46.7%), praying (41.1%) and applying vapour (36%). Patients generally use CAM methods for breathing comfortably, improving respiration, reducing dyspnoea, and relaxing. Patients frequently use CAM methods together with medical treatments, and they benefit from these methods without getting any harm. The rate of CAM usage is higher among patients who have a longer period of asthma and COPD and more than five symptoms of asthma and COPD. In conclusion, CAM is used commonly by asthma and COPD patients. The CAM usage rate is higher among patients who have a longer period of asthma and COPD and more than five symptoms of asthma and COPD.

The aim of this study is to determine the level of comfort among nursing students during sexual counseling to patients who have chronic medical conditions. The sample of this descriptive study consisted of 161 students who study at the third and fourth years at a health college. More than half of the students reported being comfortable or a slightly comfortable during providing sexual counseling to patients who have chronic conditions. Students who are not comfortable with answering questions related to sexuality (p = 0.000), find initiating a conversation on future sexual problems with the patient is inappropriate unless the patient brings it up (p = 0.007), and nurses should not talk about sexual issues in a routine way with patients (p = 0.026) who do not feel comfortable during sexual counseling. In order to provide nursing students feeling comfortable, the issue of sexual counseling to patients who have chronic conditions should take place during the nursing education.

The study utilized an interview format to examine the difficulties experienced by mothers of children with cerebral palsy. Interviews were conducted in the province of Zonguldak between December 2013 and February 2014, Turkey, at a special rehabilitation center with 15 children with cerebral palsy and their mothers registered at the center. A voice recorder was used during the interviews, but since the mothers expressed their unwillingness to have their voices recorded during the interviews when they talked about their sexual lives, face to face interviews were held in a suitable physical environment without the use of a recorder. A semi-structured questionnaire was used during the interviews. The couples are troubled with many difficulties that include personal relations, social and economic problems, as well as issues involving the sick child’s care and education. In connection with these difficulties, it was also seen that the situation took a toll on the sexual lives of parents. Aims and objectives: To examine psychometric properties of the Self-Efficacy for Clinical Evaluation Scale (SECS) in a nursing student sample. Background: Self-efficacy is a good choice to be used in order to make a prediction of nursing students' performance in clinical practice. The SECS, consisting of perceived self-efficacy and importance subscales, seems to be suitable to evaluate self-efficacy regarding care skills for patients with chronic diseases. However, there is not a valid tool to evaluate the perception of self-efficacy for Turkish nursing students. Design: Cross-sectional methodological design. Methods: The sample included 400 Turkish nursing students who attended practicum at a hospital. Content of the SECS was evaluated by content validity index (CVI). Reliability was evaluated with internal consistency, item-total correlation and test-retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and convergent and divergent validity were used to test the validity. Results: The CVI results were satisfactory. We found satisfactory evidence for internal consistency and item-total correlations. Intraclass correlation coefficients showed stability of subscales. The CFA replicated two-factor structure for the SECS. This was reflected in all fit indices. All factor loadings were positive and were above the perfect level. The convergent validity was supported by the correlation between SECS and General Self-Efficacy Scale. The divergent validity findings demonstrated that SECS differentiated between students with various levels of general point average, which is an indicator of academic success. Conclusion: In conclusion, SECS is a reliable and valid tool used in clinical nursing education settings. Relevance to clinical practice: Measuring students' self-efficacy in a clinical environment can provide an insight for students into what they have learned. Nurse educators can also use the SECS to spot nursing students with weaknesses in care activities and create educational strategies to help them to enhance their academic performance. Using the SECS can yield an insight both for students and for nursing educators. © 2013 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

This study was conducted to evaluate beginning nursing students' point of view related to caring cancer patients in their first clinical placement.Data were collected by evaluating the diaries kept by four beginning level nursing students who were assigned to do their fundamentals of nursing clinical practice in hematology clinic from February to May 2011. A qualitative research method was used and data were analyzed using inductive method.Nursing students experienced anxiety, had difficulties while communicating with cancer patients and observed some negative practices related to patient care and treatment.During their clinical placement nursing students were able to differentiate right and wrong practices in clinical environment, they tried to tailor their theoretical knowledge to the clinical practice and reported decrease in their anxiety by the end of clinical rotation. Being assigned to care for cancer patients was a stressful experience for the first year students. According to these results, it can be said that clinics such as hematology can be used as a clinical placement only in mandatory conditions for beginning level nursing students because of their limited clinical experience and the knowledge requirement related to these patients.

This study has been performed in order to define the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) in patients with myocardial infraction (MI), and to identify potential correlations between sexual dysfunction and socio-demographical attributes, cardio-vascular diseases, and factors that pose risks for SDs, as well as to define whether there is a relationship between sexual dysfunction and quality of life.In this study, which was carried out with a total of 102 patients with MI (36 women, 66 men), the data were gathered via an information form that assesses socio-demographical attributes and risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases and sexual dysfunction; international sexual dysfunction assessment forms; Short Sexual Index Inventory for women (IFSF); Erection Function International Assessment Form (IIEF) for men; and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. Obtained data were evaluated using statistical evaluations, Student t-test, Chi-square, Fisher precise Chi-square, Yates corrected Chi-square, and Pearson correlation tests.Sexual dysfunction was defined in 80% of women, and 37% of men. Its prevalence was higher than expected in women. Reductions in the frequency of intercourse and sexual satisfaction were reported by 53.9% and 32.4% subjects, respectively. The most important reason associated with the decreased prevalence of sexual intercourse was the fear of re-infarction, with a rate of 85.5%. All quality of life sub-dimension scores, other than social functioning (p0.05), were low showing statistical differences. Of the subjects, 97.1% were not given information before being discharged. On the other hand, only 57.8% of them desired to be informed on the subject.Sexual dysfunction prevalence is high in patients with MI history; SD is more frequent in women than in men, and the patients are not assessed on this aspect.

Background and aims The purpose of this study is to determine the difficulties experienced by mothers of children with cerebral palsy and their needs. Methods Qualitative design. The study was conducted in the province of Zonguldak, Turkey, at a special rehabilitation centre with 15 children with CP and their mothers registered at the centre. An in-depth interview was held with each of the mothers consenting to participate in the study. Results The subjects’ sociodemographic characteristics shows that mean age is 37.06 ± 1.23 years, most are elementary school-middle school graduates, city-dwellers and 73.3% have no chronic disease. All of the women having children with CP said that they were shocked when they first found out about the diagnosis, that they suffered disappointment, were very frightened because they knew nothing about the disease and also guilty for bringing such a child into the world. It was seen however that fathers had difficulty accepting their child’s sickness but that mothers acknowledged this fact sooner than their spouses. All of the mothers stated that they could not find a suitable institution to place the child and that teachers at school were inadequate in terms of the child’s education and that they would not pay them the attention they needed. Conclusions The families with children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, couples are faced with many difficulties that include personal relations, social and economic problems, as well as issues involving the sick child’s care and education. In connexion with these difficulties, it was also seen that the situation took a toll on the sexual lives of parents.

Background and aims As in developed countries all over the world, the internet is also utilised in developing countries in all educational activities to increase the students’ interest and motivation at class, achieve permanence of knowledge, and keep pace with technologic developments. The purpose of this study was to determine the unethical behaviours of high school students in terms of internet use in the field of information technology as well as the factors that influence these behaviours. Methods This study was population-based cross-sectional study. Research data were collected between February 13th and June 30th of 2012. The universe of research consisted of 900 students studying at five different high schools located in Zonguldak, Turkey, whereas 643 students (86 girls, 557 boys) constituted the actual sampling. Results The average total score was 103.70 ± 43.71. The students scored highest in the field of intellectual property, whereas the lowest scores could be observed in the sub-aspect of security and quality. No significant difference could be observed between the students’ intellectual property scores according to their branch. However the results revealed significant differences in terms of social impact, network accuracy, security and quality, and information accuracy. Conclusion The students’ age is influential on their unethical use of information technologies. Along with basic computer training, teachers are supposed to raise the students’ awareness with regard to ethical issues that arise from computer technologies and are of particular concern to the society, and teach them how they should act in terms of ethical problems.

Background and aims Especially the period between the ages of 0–6, which is known as the early childhood period (preschool period), is a very critical period where learning is fastest, the child is affected the most from environmental factors, and the chance for keeping the acquired attitudes, behaviour and habits in the following years is the highest. As in many subjects, giving the importance to sexual education in this period has many benefits regarding development. This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine knowledge levels and attitudes of doctors and nurses regarding children’s sexual development and sex education. Methods The design of the study is descriptive. The study was conducted with doctors and nurses who work at various clinics of two state hospitals located in the Istanbul province. A total of 138 doctors and 150 nurses work at these hospitals. Results It was determined that the majority of cases were female and were aged more than 36 years. 63.5% of the cases have bachelor’s degrees and 62.1% were medical doctors. It was determined that the number of correct responses given by the cases regarding some behaviours observed in children aged between 3–6 years and children’s sexual development and sex education showed significant differences according to age group, marital status, status of having children, educational status, and occupation (Table 1). Conclusions All of our cases think that it is necessary to provide sex education for children and the majority of cases think that sex education should be provided for children aged between 7–12 years.

Introduction: Large intracardiac mass is a rare condition but it brings extremely high-risk of hemodynamic and embolic complications [1]. Presentation is usually heart failure, syncope or embolic events, but occasionally it may have atypical symptoms even may be asymptomatic. case report: Herein we are discussing a case of a 69-year-old male with syncope due to giant left atrial myxoma and coronary artery disease. conclusion: Although atrial myxomas are the most common type of benign cardiac tumors coexistent with significant coronary artery stenosis is very rare and only a few cases available in literature. surgery performed safely despite patient age, mass size and coronary artery disease coexistence and ultimate prognosis is good. Myxomas may be symptom free despite the coexistent of severe coronary artery disease, older age and large size of the mass until a contributing factor, such as atrial fibrillation episode as in our case, bring out the symptoms. Once the myxomas are detected before any complication surgery
