Search

Axion-like particles (ALPs) are known to be produced through axion-photon conversion in the presence of a stationary external magnetic field. Devices such as undulators and wigglers, which are used widely for photon production, e.g., in synchrotron radiation facilities, inherently possess strong magnetic fields, making them potential sources for ALP production. In this paper, we establish formalisms and formulas for studying ALP production in the ALP-photon-charged current system based on quantum field theory. We demonstrate that ALP production is inevitable in any undulator with the standard designs due to the electron Coulomb potential as well as a resonance effect depending on the ALP mass. In particular, ALPs are predominantly produced in a direction slightly misaligned with the photons' main direction. We propose placing detectors in the desired directions during operations of the originally planned experiments as an efficient approach to simultaneously probing ALPs. The exclusive production of $J/\psi$ through Higgs boson radiative decay may serve a clean channel to extracting the charm quark Yukawa coupling. We calculate the two-loop QCD corrections to $H\rightarrow J/\psi(\Upsilon)+\gamma$ using an optimized nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach. We compute the ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ correction in the direct channel, where Higgs directly couples to $c\bar{c}$, as well as the ${\cal O}(\alpha_s)$ correction in the indirect channel, {\it viz.}, $H\to\gamma^*\gamma$ followed by the virtual photon fragmentation into $J/\psi$. Incorporating the destructive interference between the direct and indirect channels, we present to date the most accurate predictions for Higgs boson radiative decay into vector quarkonium, $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow J/\psi+\gamma) = 3.27_{-0.07}^{+0.30}{}^{+0.06}_{-0.06}{}_{-0.13}^{+0.13}\times 10^{-6}$, and $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow \Upsilon+\gamma)= 1.34_{-0.31}^{+0.75}{}^{+0.25}_{-0.20}{}^{+0.05}_{-0.05}\times 10^{-8}$., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables

A search for dark matter (DM) particles produced in association with bottom quarks is presented. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$. The search is performed in the final state with large missing transverse momentum and a pair of jets originating from bottom quarks. No significant excess of data is observed with respect to the standard model expectation. Results are interpreted in the context of a type-II two-Higgs-doublet model with an additional light pseudoscalar (2HDM+a). An upper limit is set on the mass of the lighter pseudoscalar, excluding masses up to 260 GeV at 95% confidence level. This is the first search at the LHC to probe DM produced in association with two nonresonant bottom quarks in the 2HDM+a model. Sensitivity to the parameter space with the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets, $\tan\beta$, greater than 15 is achieved, capitalizing on the enhancement of couplings between pseudoscalars and bottom quarks with high $\tan\beta$., Comment: Submitted to the Journal of High Energy Physics. Precise direct cosmic-ray (CR) measurements provide an important probe to study the energetic particle sources in our Galaxy, and the interstellar environment through which these particles propagate. Uncertainties on hadronic models, ion-nucleon cross sections in particular, are currently the limiting factor towards obtaining more accurate CR ion flux measurements with calorimetric space-based experiments. We present an energy-dependent measurement of the inelastic cross section of protons and helium-4 nuclei (alpha particles) on a Bi$_4$Ge$_3$O$_{12}$ target, using 88 months of data collected by the DAMPE space mission. The kinetic energy range per nucleon of the measurement points ranges from 18 GeV to 9 TeV for protons, and from 5 GeV/n to 3 TeV/n for helium-4 nuclei. Our results lead to a significant improvement of the CR flux normalisation. We present measurements on Fe$_2$O$_3$ amorphization and melt under laser-driven shock compression up to 209(10) GPa via time-resolved in situ x-ray diffraction. At 122(3) GPa, a diffuse signal is observed indicating the presence of a non-crystalline phase. Structure factors have been extracted up to 182(6) GPa showing the presence of two well-defined peaks. A rapid change in the intensity ratio of the two peaks is identified between 145(10) and 151(10) GPa, indicative of a phase change. Present DFT+$U$ calculations of temperatures along Fe$_2$O$_3$ Hugoniot are in agreement with SESAME 7440 and indicate relatively low temperatures, below 2000 K, up to 150 GPa. The non-crystalline diffuse scattering is thus consistent with the - as yet unreported - shock amorphization of Fe$_2$O$_3$ between 122(3) and 145(10) GPa, followed by an amorphous-to-liquid transition above 151(10) GPa. Upon release, a non-crystalline phase is observed alongside crystalline $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$. The extracted structure factor and pair distribution function of this release phase resemble those reported for Fe$_2$O$_3$ melt at ambient pressure., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, under review

A search is presented for a heavy scalar ($H$) or pseudo-scalar ($A$) predicted by the two-Higgs-doublet models, where the $H/A$ is produced in association with a top-quark pair ($t\bar{t}H/A$), and with the $H/A$ decaying into a $t\bar{t}$ pair. Events are selected requiring exactly one or two opposite-charge electrons or muons. Data-driven corrections are applied to improve the modelling of the $t\bar{t}$+jets background in the regime with high jet and $b$-jet multiplicities. These include a novel multi-dimensional kinematic reweighting based on a neural network trained using data and simulations. An $H/A$-mass parameterised graph neural network is trained to optimise the signal-to-background discrimination. In combination with the previous search performed by the ATLAS Collaboration in the multilepton final state, the observed upper limits on the $t\bar{t}H/A \rightarrow t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$ production cross-section at 95% confidence level range between 14 fb and 5.0 fb for an $H/A$ with mass between 400 GeV and 1000 GeV, respectively. Assuming that both the $H$ and $A$ contribute to the $t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$ cross-section, $\tan\beta$ values below 1.7 or 0.7 are excluded for a mass of 400 GeV or 1000 GeV, respectively. The Muonium-to-Antimuonium Conversion Experiment (MACE) is proposed to search for charged lepton flavor violation and increase the sensitivity by three orders of magnitude compared to the PSI experiment in the 1990s. A clear signature of this conversion is the positron produced from antimuonium decay. This paper presents a near-$4\pi$-coverage calorimeter designed for MACE, which provides an energy resolution of 9% at 511 keV and 7.5% at 1.022 MeV. The signal efficiency for double $\gamma$ events is 67.5%. The latest update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics stimulated the preparation of the European Detector Roadmap document in 2021 by the European Committee for Future Accelerators ECFA. This roadmap, defined during a bottom-up process by the community, outlines nine technology domains for HEP instrumentation and pinpoints urgent R&D topics, known as Detector R&D Themes (DRDTs). Task forces were set for each domain, leading to Detector R&D Collaborations (DRDs), now hosted at CERN. After an intensive period over the last months, seven DRD collaborations have been established, which are now starting to set up their collaboration structures and begin to work. One is still in the preparation phase. Using $(2712.4 \pm 14.3) \times 10^6~\psi$(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the hadronic transition $h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ via $\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c$. No significant signal is observed. We set the most stringent upper limits to date on the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c)\times\mathcal{B}(h_c\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level, which are determined to be $6.7\times 10^{-7}$ and $9.4 \times10^{-4}$, respectively.

In this Letter, a systematic study of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0}\to\Lambda\gamma$ at an electron-positron collider using entangled $\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ pair events is presented. The absolute branching fraction for this decay has been measured for the first time, and is $\left(1.347 \pm 0.066_{\mathrm stat.}\pm0.054_{\mathrm syst.}\right)\times 10^{-3}$. The decay asymmetry parameter, which characterizes the effect of parity violation in the decay, is determined to be $-0.741 \pm 0.062_{\mathrm stat.}\pm 0.019_{\mathrm syst.}$. The obtained results are consistent with the world average values within the uncertainties, offering valuable insights into the underlying mechanism governing the weak radiative hyperon decays. The charge conjugation parity ($CP$) symmetries of branching fraction and decay asymmetry parameter in the decay are also studied. The rare electromagnetic $J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^-\mu^+\mu^-$ decay is observed with a significance greatly exceeding the discovery threshold, using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during 2016-2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\text{fb}^{-1}$. The rate of this decay is measured relative to that of the $J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^-$ mode. We present calculations of dielectron anisotropic flow in heavy-ion collisions at HADES beam energies from a hadronic transport approach. The ongoing experimental analysis employs the traditional reaction plane method to evaluate the flow coefficients $v_n$ and claims to see isotropic radiation from the thermal quark-gluon plasma. We show in this work, that in the region above the pion mass, the dilepton flow measurement might suffer from cancellation effects that mask the complicated underlying dynamics. Contributions from different baryonic and mesonic resonances show collective behaviour with different signs and lead to an overall vanishing elliptic flow. To differentiate the different contributions, we propose to employ the scalar product method, which exploits the previously measured hadronic flow to create different reference planes. As a proof of concept, we calculate the $v_2$ of dielectrons for Ag+Ag collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.55$ $\mathrm{GeV}$ with both methods and investigate the contribution of each source, concluding that the scalar product method provides the proton and pion tagged flow coefficients as two distinct measurements, disentangling the various dilepton sources., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

Measurements of the strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ are performed in bins of phase space. The study exploits a sample of quantum-correlated $D\bar{D}$ mesons collected by the BESIII experiment in $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93~fb$^{-1}$. Here, $D$ denotes a neutral charm meson in a superposition of flavor eigenstates. The reported results are valuable for measurements of the $C\!P$-violating phase $\gamma$ (also denoted $\phi_3$) in $B^\pm \to DK^\pm$, $D \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, and the binning schemes are designed to provide good statistical sensitivity to this parameter. The expected uncertainty on $\gamma$ arising from the precision of the strong-phase measurements, when applied to very large samples of $B$-meson decays, is around $1.5^\circ$ or $2^\circ$, depending on the binning scheme. The binned strong-phase parameters are combined to give a value of $F_+^{4\pi} = 0.746 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.004$ for the $C\!P$-even fraction of $D^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, which is around 30\% more precise than the previous best measurement of this quantity.

A variety of high-energy events can take place in the seconds leading up to a binary neutron-star merger. Mechanisms involving tidal resonances, electrodynamic interactions, or shocks in mass-loaded wakes have been proposed as instigators of these precursors. With a view of gravitational-wave and multimessenger astrophysics more broadly, premerger observations and theory are reviewed emphasising how gamma-ray precursors and dynamical tides can constrain the neutron-star equation of state, thermodynamic microphysics, and evolutionary pathways. Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV) offers an appealing framework for exploring physics beyond the Standard Model. Interestingly, within the MFV framework, a new colorless field that transforms non-trivially under a global ${\rm SU}(3)^3$ quark flavor group can naturally be stable. Such a new field is thus a promising dark matter candidate, provided it is electrically neutral. We extend the MFV framework for dark matter and demonstrate that dark matter can naturally be multi-component across a broad parameter space. For illustration, we consider a gauge singlet, flavor triplet scalar field and identify parameter spaces for multi-component dark matter, where only the lightest flavor component is absolutely stable and heavy flavor components are decaying with lifetimes sufficiently longer than the age of the universe. Haloscope is one of the typical installations to detect the electromagnetic responses (EMRs) of axion field in radio-frequency (rf) band. Given what the detection by the existing Haloscope-type detector (HTD) biased only by a high stationary magnetic field, is just the second axion-photon energy converted effect and thus the detectable signal is still significantly weak, here we propose a feasible approach to upgrade the existing HTD by additionally applying a transverse rf modulated magnetic field for generating the first-order axion-photon energy converted signal. Accordingly, we argue that the detection sensitivity of the upgrading HTD (UHTD) could be enhanced feasibly by a few orders of magnitude, compared with those achieved by the existing HTDs. The SuperKEKB/Belle II experiment aims to collect high-statistics data of B meson pairs to explore new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). SuperKEKB, an upgraded version of the KEKB accelerator, has achieved a world-record luminosity of $4.71 \times 10^{34} \, \mathrm{cm^{-2}s^{-1}}$ in 2022 but continues to strive for higher luminosities. One of the major obstacles is Sudden Beam Loss (SBL) events, which cause substantial beam losses and damage to the Belle~II detector. To find a hint for addressing SBL challenges, advanced beam diagnostic systems and enhanced beam abort systems have been developed. The diagnostic system aims to accurately pinpoint the start of beam losses, while the upgraded abort system quickly disposes of anomalous beams to minimize damage. This paper details the development and implementation of these systems, including high-speed loss monitors, time synchronization with the White Rabbit system, and data acquisition systems. Efforts to understand the mechanisms of SBL events, using acoustic sensors to detect discharges, are also discussed. Given the absence of a definitive top-down indication for understanding the peculiar structure of the lepton sector, discrete flavor symmetries offer a profound perspective for examining the intricate patterns of lepton masses and mixings. In this work, drawing upon previous studies on the interplay of flavor symmetries with the potential UV completions from a purely bottom-up perspective, three well-motivated discrete flavor groups, suitable for portraying the leptonic sector as well as the neutrino masses, specifically $A_4$, $A_5$ and $S_4$, are explored within this framework, leading to the comprehensive classification of the NP mediators, along with the tree-level matching relations onto dimension-6 SMEFT operators. Particular emphasis is placed on the discrete leptonic directions, for which a phenomenological analysis is carried out in order to constrain various NP mediators, where significant focus is directed towards the examination of the cLFV operators, which, for the wide range of applicable cases, offer the leading constraint., Comment: 20 pages, 7 tables, 3 figures

We study the dynamics of the solar basin -- the accumulated population of weakly-interacting particles on bound orbits in the Solar System. We focus on particles starting off on Sun-crossing orbits, corresponding to initial conditions of production inside the Sun, and investigate their evolution over the age of the Solar System. A combination of analytic methods, secular perturbation theory, and direct numerical integration of orbits sheds light on the long- and short-term evolution of a population of test particles orbiting the Sun and perturbed by the planets. Our main results are that the effective lifetime of a solar basin at Earth's location is $\tau_{\rm eff} = 1.20\pm 0.09 \,\mathrm{Gyr}$, and that there is annual (semi-annual) modulation of the basin density with known phase and amplitude at the fractional level of 6.5% (2.2%). These results have important implications for direct detection searches of solar basin particles, and the strong temporal modulation signature yields a robust discovery channel. Our simulations can also be interpreted in the context of gravitational capture of dark matter in the Solar System, with consequences for any dark-matter phenomenon that may occur below the local escape velocity.

The Solenoidal Large Intensity Device (SoLID) is a large acceptance spectrometer capable of operating at the luminosity frontier. It is proposed to fully exploit the scientific potential of the continuous electron beam accelerator facility (CEBAF) 12 GeV energy upgrade at Jefferson Lab. Its conceptual design is mature, having passed multiple reviews and been validated by a successful pre-R\&D phase. The envisioned scientific program consists of three avenues of research, namely the 3D momentum imaging of the structure of the nucleon, the origin of the proton mass through the gluonic gravitational form factors (GFFs), and the search of physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. Time-of-flight measurements of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos can be used to probe Lorentz invariance, a pillar of modern physics. If Lorentz-invariance violation (LIV) occurs, it could cause neutrinos to slow down, with the delay scaling linearly or quadratically with their energy. We introduce non-parametric statistical methods designed to detect LIV-induced distortions in the temporal structure of a high-energy neutrino flare as it travels to Earth from a distant astrophysical source, independently of the intrinsic timing properties of the source. Our approach, illustrated using the 2014/2015 TeV-PeV neutrino flare from the blazar TXS 0506+056 detected by IceCube, finds that the LIV energy scale must exceed 10^{14} GeV (linear) or 10^9 GeV (quadratic). Our methods provide a robust means to investigate LIV by focusing solely on a neutrino flare, without relying on electromagnetic counterparts, and account for realistic energy and directional uncertainties. In this work, we investigate the muon anomalous dipole moment $a_\mu$ in a model that extends the Standard Model with a scalar triplet and a vector-like lepton triplet. Different from previous studies, we find that there is still viable parameter space in this model to explain the discrepancy $\Delta a_\mu=a_{\mu}(\mathrm{Exp})-a_{\mu}(\mathrm{SM})$. While being consistent with the current data of neutrino mass, precision electroweak measurements and the perturbativity of couplings, our model can provide new physics contribution $a_\mu^\textrm{NP}$ to cover the central region of $\Delta a_\mu$ with new scalar and fermion mass as low as around TeV. This mass scale is allowed by the current collider searches for doubly charged scalars and vector-like leptons, and they can be tested at future high energy and/or high luminosity colliders., Comment: 19 pages, 4 captioned figures, comments are welcome

SND@LHC is a new detector for neutrino physics at LHC. Its experimental configuration makes it possible to distinguish between all three neutrino flavours, opening a unique opportunity to probe physics of heavy flavour production at the LHC in the region that is not accessible to ATLAS, CMS and LHCb. It can also explore lepton flavour universality in the neutral sector, and search for feebly interacting particles. The detector has been commissioned and installed in 2021-2022. A first set of data has since then been collected, providing the first observation of neutrinos produced at a collider. This paper discusses the detector technologies being used to study high-energy neutrinos at the LHC, and their performance in terms of physics reach. The necessary upgrades to operate at high-luminosity LHC are presented, as well as a proposed experiment to perform neutrino measurements at the newly approved Beam Dump Facility., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Modelling the underlying event in high-energy hadronic collisions is important for physics at colliders. This includes lepton colliders, where low-virtuality photons accompanying the lepton beam(s) may develop hadronic structure. Similarly, photon-induced collisions also occur in proton or heavy-ion beam experiments. While the underlying event in proton-proton collisions has been the subject of much study at the LHC, studies of hadronic-photon-induced underlying event are now of increasing interest in light of planned future lepton and lepton-hadron colliders, as well as the photon-induced processes in ultra-peripheral collisions at the LHC. Here we present an investigation of the underlying event in photon-initiated processes, starting from the PYTHIA models used to describe LHC and Tevatron data, and revisiting HERA and LEP2 data. While no single tune describes all the data with different beam configurations, we find that a good agreement can still be found within the same model by adjusting the relevant parameters separately for $\gamma\gamma$, $\gamma p$ and $pp$. This suggests that the basic model of multiparton interaction implemented in PYTHIA can be applied for different beam configurations. Furthermore, we find that a reasonable agreement for $\gamma\gamma$ and $\gamma p$ data, and for $pp$ data at an LHC reference energy, can be found within a single parametrization, but $pp$ collisions would prefer a stronger energy dependence, leading to too many multiparton interactions in lower energy photon-induced collisions. On this basis, we make some recommendations for simulations of photon-induced processes, such as $\gamma \gamma$ events at the LHC or FCC and $ep$ or $eA$ collisions at the EIC, and suggest possibilities for improvements in the modelling., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures. Understanding the origin of the proton spin is one of the most fundamental and challenging questions in QCD. Much progress has been made since the first surprising result by the EMC experiment in the late 1980s. However, the helicity distributions of strange quarks and anti-quarks inside the proton are still not well constrained by the experimental data. Measurement of the longitudinal double spin asymmetry $A_{LL}$ of the inclusive jets tagged with a $\pi^{\pm}/\pi^-$ carrying high jet momentum fraction, $z$, in $p+p$ collisions can provide further constraints on the gluon helicity distribution in the proton. In addition, the $A_{LL}$ of $\Lambda$, $\overline{\Lambda}$ and $K_S^0$ in the longitudinally polarized $p+p$ collisions may shed light on the strange quark and anti-quark helicity distributions. In this contribution, we report the preliminary results on the $A_{LL}$ measurements of inclusive jets tagged with a high-$z$ $\pi^{\pm}$, and the $\Lambda$, $\overline{\Lambda}$ and $K_S^0$. We utilize the longitudinally polarized $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ $\rm{GeV}$ collected by the STAR experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 52 $\rm{pb^{-1}}$.

In light of the recent data for $\bar{B}_{(s)}\to D^{(*)}_{(s)}P$ and $\bar{B}_{(s)}\to D_{(s)}V$ decays, we perform a model-independent phenomenological analysis in the presence of quasi-elastic rescattering. With the Wilson coefficients including contributions beyond the standard model, lifetimes of $B$ meson as well as the $B^0_d-\bar{B}^0_d$ mixing are investigated for clarifying correlations among the observables. We show that parameter regions for quasi-elastic rescattering, the size of color-suppressed tree amplitudes and new physics are constrained due to the lifetime data. As a consequence, it is revealed that this scenario can be testable by the future LHCb measurement of width difference in $B^0_d-\bar{B}^0_d$ mixing and semi-leptonic CP asymmetry., Comment: 28 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

Baryon quantum number is believed to be conserved since baryogenesis in the early Universe. While fractionally charged valence quarks are understood conventionally to each carry a baryon number of 1/3, the baryon junction, a non-perturbative Y-shaped topology of neutral gluons, has also been proposed as an alternative entity tracing the baryon number. Neither scenario has been verified experimentally. The STAR Collaboration reports measurements at mid-rapidity of baryon number ($\boldsymbol{B}$) over the electric charge number difference ($\boldsymbol{\Delta Q}$) in isobar nuclear collisions, and the net-proton yield along rapidity in photonuclear collisions. A larger $\boldsymbol{B/\Delta Q}$ ratio and less asymmetric net-proton yield are observed than predicted from models assigning baryon number to valence quarks. These findings, corroborated by previous measurements in Au+Au collisions, disfavor the valence quark picture.

Production and in-medium modification of hidden strange $\phi$ mesons are studied in proton-nucleus reactions - p+C, p+Cu and p+Pb - at 12 GeV/c, partially measured by the KEK E325 collaboration via the dilepton decay mode. This work is based on the off-shell microscopic Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, which provides the dynamical description of strongly interacting hadronic and partonic degrees of freedom in dense matter, and especially makes it possible to simulate in-medium off-shell dynamics of the $\phi$ meson in the reactions studied. Different in-medium scenarios for the modification of the $\phi$ meson spectral function in nuclear matter are investigated: i) dropping pole mass, ii) collisional broadening and iii) simultaneous dropping pole mass and collisional broadening. Even though the $\phi$ meson production in p+A reactions occurs only at densities around or below normal nuclear matter density $\rho_0$, we find visible modifications of the generated dilepton spectra for the in-medium scenarios compared to the vacuum distribution., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

Levitated ferromagnets act as ultraprecise magnetometers, which can exhibit high quality factors due to their excellent isolation from the environment. These instruments can be utilized in searches for ultralight dark matter candidates, such as axionlike dark matter or dark-photon dark matter. In addition to being sensitive to an axion-photon coupling or kinetic mixing, which produce physical magnetic fields, ferromagnets are also sensitive to the effective magnetic field (or ``axion wind") produced by an axion-electron coupling. While the dynamics of a levitated ferromagnet in response to a DC magnetic field have been well studied, all of these couplings would produce AC fields. In this work, we study the response of a ferromagnet to an applied AC magnetic field and use these results to project their sensitivity to axion and dark-photon dark matter. We pay special attention to the direction of motion induced by an applied AC field, in particular, whether it precesses around the applied field (similar to an electron spin) or librates in the plane of the field (similar to a compass needle). We show that existing levitated ferromagnet setups can already have comparable sensitivity to an axion-electron coupling as comagnetometer or torsion balance experiments. In addition, future setups can become sensitive probes of axion-electron coupling, dark-photon kinetic mixing, and axion-photon coupling, for ultralight dark matter masses $m_\mathrm{DM}\lesssim\mathrm{feV}$., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures

We report the results of a QCD axion dark matter search with discovery ability for Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky (DFSZ) axions using an axion haloscope. Sub-Kelvin noise temperatures are reached with an ultra low-noise Josephson parametric amplifier cooled by a dilution refrigerator. This work excludes (with a 90% confidence level) DFSZ axions with masses between 3.27 to 3.34 {\mu}eV, assuming a standard halo model with a local energy density of 0.45 GeV/cc made up 100% of axions.

Nuclear de-excitations associated with neutrino-nucleus interactions and nucleon decays are playing an increasingly significant role in neutrino experiments. We explore the GEMINI++ code and estimate its ability to account for the de-excitation processes of highly excited $^{11}$B$^*$ and $^{15}$N$^*$, which can be created in the liquid scintillator and water Cherenkov detectors respectively. It is found that GEMINI++ can not describe the nuclear experimental data of $^{11}$B$^*$ and $^{15}$N$^*$ well. To improve its performance for de-excitations of light nuclei, we modify GEMINI++ and then develop a code of GEMINI++4$\nu$, which can give the best predictions compared with experimental measurements among some widely used statistical model codes., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables

We generalize the potential reconstruction method to set up a dynamical Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton model, which we then use to study holographic quarkonium melting in an external magnetic field. The non-linear nature of the model allows to couple the magnetic field to the quarkonium inner structure without having to introduce back-reacting charged flavour degrees of freedom. The magnetic field dependent melting temperature is computed from the spectral functions and suggests a switch from magnetic to inverse magnetic catalysis when the magnetic field increases. This work investigates the capability of future lepton colliders to determine the sign of the gauge-Higgs coupling through the vector boson fusion (VBF) $Zh$ process. This channel offers a model-independent way to probe the sign of the gauge-Higgs coupling. Its sensitivity to interference effects and universal coupling with new physics makes it particularly effective. We show that a high-energy lepton collider such as CLIC can fully determine the sign of the gauge-Higgs coupling in a model-independent way and with high-confidence., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Emergence of universal collective behaviour from interactions in a sufficiently large group of elementary constituents is a fundamental scientific paradigm. In physics, correlations in fluctuating microscopic observables can provide key information about collective states of matter such as deconfined quark-gluon plasma in heavy-ion collisions or expanding quantum degenerate gases. Two-particle correlations in mesoscopic colliders have provided smoking-gun evidence on the nature of exotic electronic excitations such as fractional charges, levitons and anyon statistics. Yet the gap between two-particle collisions and the emergence of collectivity as the number of interacting particles grows is hard to address at the microscopic level. Here, we demonstrate all-body correlations in the partitioning of up to $N = 5$ electron droplets driven by a moving potential well through a Y-junction in a semiconductor. We show that the measured multivariate cumulants (of order $k = 2$ to $N$) of the electron droplet are accurately described by $k$-spin correlation functions of an effective Ising model below the N\'eel temperature and can be interpreted as a Coulomb liquid in the thermodynamic limit. Finite size scaling of high-order correlation functions provides otherwise inaccessible fingerprints of emerging order. Our demonstration of emergence in a simple correlated electron collider opens a new way to study engineered states of matter.

We give a brief overview of recent progress in lattice QCD simulations that is enabling precision studies of the three-dimensional structure of the nucleon. We present results on nucleon charges and second Mellin moments of parton distribution functions and generalized parton distributions, highlighting results obtained at the continuum limit using only gauge ensembles simulated with physical quark masses. The tensor charge and transversity moments are determined with controlled systematics and used to extract nucleon transverse density distributions. We examine the geometrical differences between the black hole~(BH) and naked singularity~(NS) or superspinar via Lense-Thirring~(LT) precession in spinning modified-gravity~(MOG). For BH case, we show that the LT precession frequency~($\Omega_{LT}$) along the pole is proportional to the angular-momentum~($J$) parameter or spin parameter~($a$) and is inversely proportional to the cubic value of radial distance parameter, and also governed by Eq.(1). Along the equatorial plane it is governed by Eq.(2). While for superspinar, we show that the LT precession frequency is inversely proportional to the cubic value of the spin parameter and it decreases with distance by MOG parameter as derived in Eq.(3) at the pole and in the limit $a>>r$ (where $\alpha$ is MOG parameter). DarkSide-20k (DS-20k) is a dark matter detection experiment under construction at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy. It utilises ~100 t of low radioactivity argon from an underground source (UAr) in its inner detector, with half serving as target in a dual-phase time projection chamber (TPC). The UAr cryogenics system must maintain stable thermodynamic conditions throughout the experiment's lifetime of >10 years. Continuous removal of impurities and radon from the UAr is essential for maximising signal yield and mitigating background. We are developing an efficient and powerful cryogenics system with a gas purification loop with a target circulation rate of 1000 slpm. Central to its design is a condenser operated with liquid nitrogen which is paired with a gas heat exchanger cascade, delivering a combined cooling power of >8 kW. Here we present the design choices in view of the DS-20k requirements, in particular the condenser's working principle and the cooling control, and we show test results obtained with a dedicated benchmarking platform at CERN and LNGS. We find that the thermal efficiency of the recirculation loop, defined in terms of nitrogen consumption per argon flow rate, is 95 % and the pressure in the test cryostat can be maintained within $\pm$(0.1-0.2) mbar. We further detail a 5-day cool-down procedure of the test cryostat, maintaining a cooling rate typically within -2 K/h, as required for the DS-20k inner detector. Additionally, we assess the circuit's flow resistance, and the heat transfer capabilities of two heat exchanger geometries for argon phase change, used to provide gas for recirculation. We conclude by discussing how our findings influence the finalisation of the system design, including necessary modifications to meet requirements and ongoing testing activities., Comment: 45 pages, 24 figures

We report a search for a lepton-portal dark matter model, where dark matter couples to a charged lepton in the standard model. This simplified model naturally leads to photon-mediated dark matter interactions with nuclei, making it suitable for direct dark matter detection experiments. Matching to the framework of non-relativistic effective field theory for dark matter, we report the first sensitive search for this model using data from the PandaX-4T commissioning run. Our results yield strong constraints on Dirac fermion dark matter but relatively weaker constraints on Majorana dark matter due to the suppression of effective photon interactions. These constraints complement those obtained from the collider and indirect detection experiments.

We study the forward-backward azimuthal angular correlations of hadrons in association with multi-particle production in the central rapidity region in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. We apply the nucleon energy-energy correlator framework, where the spinning gluon distribution introduces a nontrivial $\cos(2\phi)$ asymmetries. We will demonstrate that the fundamental helicity structure of QCD amplitudes predicts a unique power counting rule: $\cos(2\phi)$ asymmetry starts at ${O}(\alpha_s^2)$ order for dijet, ${O}(\alpha_s)$ for three jet and ${O}(1)$ for four (and more) jet productions. Our results will help us to understand the long standing puzzle of nearside ridge behavior observed in high multiplicity events of $pp$ collisions at the LHC., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

COSINE-100 is a direct dark matter search experiment, with the primary goal of testing the annual modulation signal observed by DAMA/LIBRA, using the same target material, NaI(Tl). In previous analyses, we achieved the same 1 keV energy threshold used in the DAMA/LIBRA's analysis that reported an annual modulation signal with 11.6$\sigma$ significance. In this article, we report an improved analysis that lowered the threshold to 0.7 keV, thanks to the application of Multi-Layer Perception network and a new likelihood parameter with waveforms in the frequency domain. The lower threshold would enable a better comparison of COSINE-100 with new DAMA results with a 0.75 keV threshold and account for differences in quenching factors. Furthermore the lower threshold can enhance COSINE-100's sensitivity to sub-GeV dark matter searches.

We constructed a model for spontaneous CP symmetry breaking in five-dimensional space-time that solves the strong CP problem. To explain the nature of dark matter and the baryon asymmetry of the universe, three right-handed neutrinos and $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge interaction are introduced in the bulk, in addition to the field contents of the Bento-Branco-Parada model. The wave-function profiles in the fifth dimension can suppress dangerous operators allowed by symmetries, and the scale of spontaneous CP symmetry breaking can be sufficiently large to be consistent with thermal leptogenesis. In this model, the lightest right-handed neutrino serves as dark matter with a mass of $\mathcal{O}(10)$ keV. This small mass and the necessarily small mixing are explained by the exponentially localized wave-function in the fifth dimension due to a bulk mass term. The correct relic abundance is achieved thanks to the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge interaction. The other heavy right-handed neutrinos explain the baryon asymmetry of the universe through leptogenesis, with the required CP violating phases generated by interactions involving heavy leptons., Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure

The internal structure of the light scalar meson $a_0(980)$ is explored in the three-body $D$ decays of $D\to a_0(980)P\to P_1P_2P$ through the intermediate state $a_0(980)$, where $P$ denotes a pseudoscalar meson. The quasi-two-body $D\to a_0(980)^+P$ decays are governed by the external $W$-emission diagram in which $a_0(980)^+$ is emitted. The predicted branching fractions in the $q\bar q$ model of $a_0(980)$ are too small by one to two orders of magnitude compared to experiment as the amplitude is suppressed by the smallness of the $a_0(980)^+$ decay constant, while those for $D^+\to a_0(980)^0 P$ and $D^0\to a_0(980)^{-}P$ are usually too large. These discrepancies can be resolved provided that $a_0(980)$ is a tetraquark state. In this case, there exist two additional $T$-like topological amplitudes, denoted by $\overline{T}$ and $\tilde T$ which readily account for the discrepancies. An important implication of the tetraquark model is that the $D_s^+\to a_0(980)^+\pi^0+a_0(980)^0\pi^+$ decay is not a purely $W$-annihilation process as in the diquark model of $a_0(980)$; it receives dominant contributions from $\overline{T}$ newly noticed in this work. In collider physics experiments, particle identification (PID), i. e. the identification of the charged particle species in the detector is usually one of the most crucial tools in data analysis. In the past decade, machine learning techniques have gradually become one of the mainstream methods in PID, usually providing superior discrimination power compared to classical algorithms. In recent years, quantum machine learning (QML) has bridged the traditional machine learning and the quantum computing techniques, providing further improvement potential for traditional machine learning models. In this work, targeting at the $\mu^{\pm} /\pi^{\pm}$ discrimination problem at the BESIII experiment, we developed a variational quantum classifier (VQC) with nine qubits. Using the IBM quantum simulator, we studied various encoding circuits and variational ansatzes to explore their performance. Classical optimizers are able to minimize the loss function in quantum-classical hybrid models effectively. A comparison of VQC with the traditional multiple layer perception neural network reveals they perform similarly on the same datasets. This illustrates the feasibility to apply quantum machine learning to data analysis in collider physics experiments in the future.

The scale of liquid xenon experiments for rare events searching is expanding, which is planned even to fifty tons level. The detector and distillation tower require a reliable cooling source with large cooling power at liquid xenon temperature range. Pulse tube refrigerators and GM refrigerators, which were widely used in previous detectors, have the disadvantages of small cooling power, large space occupation, and non-standby mutuality, which become bottlenecks of the experiment scale expansion. In this study, an auto-cascade refrigerator with ethanol coolant is developed, and the heat transfer effect is improved by adopting the concentric shaft heat exchanger and after-pumping heat transfer scheme. The 2.5 kW stable cooling power is obtained at 155 K. Further, the feasibility and key technology of the centralized cooling system of 5 kw at 160 K is discussed. The study can simplify liquid xenon experimental auxiliary devices, which will be helpful for the PandaX-xT experiment scheme and its laboratory infrastructure design., Comment: 25pages, 10 figures

We have considered an effective field theory framework in which the Standard Model is extended by a non-renormalizable dimension six operator ($\frac{1}{\Lambda^2}(H^{\dagger}H)^3$) respecting the symmetries of the Standard Model. Such an operator can affect the dynamics of Higgs field and the electroweak phase transition. Presence of such term modifies the triple Higgs coupling which is already under the lens from di-Higgs searches in various channels at the LHC. Constraint on the scale parameter $\Lambda$ is obtained from the di-Higgs data at the LHC Run II. Additionally, such dimension six terms will give rise to additional couplings which will affect tri-Higgs and four-Higgs productions at future high energy, high luminosity hadron colliders. The shape of the scalar potential also gets modified due to such higher dimensional term composed of Higgs field. It is worthwhile to study the impact of such higher-dimensional operators at suitable gravitational wave (GW) interferometry experiments since GW astronomy has become a good probe for new physics searches. Bounds obtained on the scale parameter $\Lambda$ from the allowed first-order electroweak phase transition is $480 \lesssim \Lambda \lesssim 590$~GeV. On the other hand, di-Higgs results from the LHC Run II put a lower bound on $\Lambda \gtrsim 340$~GeV., Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures

We investigate the phenomenology of a dark QCD sector interacting with the Standard Model (SM) via the electroweak (EW) portals. The portal interactions allow SM bosons, such as $Z$ and $h$, or additional bosons that mix with them, to decay into dark quarks, producing dark showers. The light dark mesons are expected to be long-lived particles (LLPs), as their decays back to the SM states through the EW-portal interactions typically have macroscopic decay lengths. We focus on dark shower events initiated by various bosons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The most prominent signal is the displaced decay of GeV-scale dark pions as LLPs. Current limits on dark shower signals at LHC detectors are recast from public data in a model-independent manner. Future limits in the high-luminosity phase and proposed auxiliary detectors are also projected. Additionally, we study the flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) $B$ decays into dark pions, obtaining both current and projected constraints at the LHC and other facilities. These constraints can be combined for specific models, which are illustrated in two EW-portal benchmarks: one with the heavy doublet fermion mediation and another with the $Z^\prime$ mediator including a mass mixing. The collider reach shows significant potential to probe the parameter space unconstrained by EW precision tests, highlighting the necessity of dedicated LLP search strategies and facilities., Comment: 40 pages, 25 figures

Measurements of Higgs boson processes by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC use Simplified Template Cross Sections (STXS) as a common framework for the combination of measurements in different decay channels and their further interpretation, e.g. to measure Higgs couplings. The different Higgs production processes are measured in predefined kinematic regions -- the STXS bins -- requiring precise theory predictions for each individual bin. In gluon-fusion Higgs production a main division is into 0-jet, 1-jet, and $\geq 2$-jet bins, which are further subdivided in bins of the Higgs transverse momentum $p_T^H$. Requiring a fixed number of jets induces logarithms $\ln p_T^{\mathrm{cut}}/Q$ in the cross section where $p_T^{\mathrm{cut}}$ is the jet-$p_T$ threshold and $Q\sim p_T^H\sim m_H$ the hard-interaction scale. These jet-veto logarithms can be resummed to all orders in perturbation theory to achieve the highest possible perturbative precision. We provide state-of-the art predictions for the $p_T^H$ spectrum in exclusive $H+$1-jet production and the corresponding $H+$1-jet STXS bins in the kinematic regime $p_T^{\mathrm{cut}} \ll p_T^H\sim m_H$. We carry out the resummation at NNLL$'$ accuracy, using theory nuisance parameters to account for the few unknown ingredients at this order, and match to full NNLO. We revisit the jet-veto factorization for this process and find that it requires refactorizing the total soft function into a global and soft-collinear contribution in order to fully account for logarithms of the signal jet radius. The leading nonglobal logarithms are also included, though they are numerically small for the region of phenomenological interest., Comment: 52 pages, 13 figures

We compute the corrections to the two-loop amplitudes for $gg \to h$, $gg \to hg$, $qg \to hq$, and $q \bar q \to hg$ due to a modified cubic Higgs self-coupling. The exact dependence on the Higgs and top-quark masses across the entire $2 \to 2$ phase space is determined by numerically solving a system of differential equations for the relevant master integrals. The calculated amplitudes are crucial for evaluating the impact of the considered corrections on exclusive $pp \to hj$ production at the hadronic event level. As an application, we calculate the non-universal, kinematic-dependent cubic Higgs self-coupling corrections to the Higgs-boson transverse momentum distribution in gluon-gluon fusion Higgs production for arbitrary values of the transverse momentum., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

We calculate the spectroscopic parameters of resonance $X(4630)$ observed in the process $B^{+}\rightarrow J/\Psi \phi K^{+}$ by at the LHCb experiments at CERN by means of thermal QCD sum rule method at non-zero temperature. The exotic vector $X(4630)$ is assigned as the diquark-antidiquark state $[cs][\overline{cs}]$ with spin-parity $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$. Employing the two-point QCD sum rule approach up to the sixth order of the operator dimension by including non-perturbative contribution, we calculate the mass and decay constant of $X(4630)$ at $T\neq0$. The numerical analyses demonstrate that the values of the mass and decay constant of $X(4630)$ near the deconfinement temperature decrease up to $9.8\%$ and $60\%$ of their vacuum values. At $T\rightarrow0$, the obtained results for the mass $m_{X(4630)}=(4649\pm40)$ MeV and decay constant $\lambda_{X(4630)}=(10.07\pm0.8)\times10^{-3} $ MeV are in excellent agreement with the results reported by LHCb experiments and other theoretical predictions., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Experimental errors are now incredibly precise, and are often dominated by the systematic uncertainties. Therefore the errors obtained in the Parton Distribution Functions that are extracted from this data will also be dominated by these experimental systematic errors, as well as the systematic errors embedded in the theoretical calculations. However, as is well known, there are often significant uncertainties in these systematic errors, and so to determine precisely the errors in the Parton Distribution Functions, we need to be thoughtful about the uncertainties in the errors themselves. In this paper, we discuss an approach where these "errors on errors" can be incorporated into a $\chi^2$ calculation, and investigate how such a model behaves and what it tells us about the resulting errors. Also we look at two data sets, ATLAS W,Z Data [arXiv:1612.03016] and the ATLAS 7 TeV Inclusive Jet Distribution Data [arXiv:1410.8857] and investigate the information that this model implies about these two data sets., Comment: 6 Pages , 7 Figures
