This series consists of planimetric maps showing the location and identification of the reference marker system of New York State highways. The marker system was established by the New York State Department of Transportation to provide unique identification of specific points along the state highway system.

This series consists of topographic maps created by the Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency, the Department of Public Works, for use in the planning and design of highway projects. The maps include all roads, with identifying route numbers and names; railroads; airports; transmission lines; individual buildings; hydrography; civil boundaries; fence lines; and, in some cases, property lines with property owners' names.

This series consists of maps that were apparently used to illustrate transportation planning in diverse areas of the state. Two of the maps are county print maps, color annotated to show what appear to be planning districts in Monroe and Westchester counties, respectively. A third map is a laminated published color map of the New York City Subway system, with a separate printed note block affixed giving the operating status of various subway lines.

The series consists of maps of all the counties in New York, outside of New York City, annotated to show proposed and approved federal-aid secondary highways as of 1945. There are two maps present for each county: one indicates state and county highways that were not considered part of the federal-aid highway system; the other shows the state and county highways that were designated as part of the system.

These aerial photographs of Troy North and Troy South quadrangles were taken by the United States Geological Survey in the planning stages for the Troy Arterial, now known as Interstate 787.

These 9 x 9 inch black and white aerial photos show highway planning and construction project areas in the Capital District involving Routes I-87, I-787, 146, 32 and 396, and 378. The photos are arranged by project. Besides highways, the photographs show islands in the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, state canal locks, bridges, and railroad complexes. Some photos contain survey notations.

Maps record state and county highways; construction contract numbers for state highways; Public Service Commission railroad grade elimination project numbers; dates of abandonment of state highways to counties, towns, or villages; courses of abandoned state highways and county boundaries. Some maps include additional information such as the projected routes of the Thruway and other limited access highways.
