This study presents a straightforward adaptive prefiltering algorithm based on a double second-order generalized integrator with prefilter to solve one of the power quality issues, this algorithm is in charge of the determination of the reference harmonic currents in the control of three-phase shunt active power filter which presents an effective way to enhance the grid current quality. The proposed algorithm is used twice, to extract the harmonic currents produced by the non-linear loads and be an interesting part in the estimation of the frequency and amplitude of the fundamental voltage in various anomalies which can be noticed on the grid voltage. The performance, precision, and robustness of the proposed method are evidenced under balanced, unbalanced, and distorted grid voltage in the simulation and experimental results obtained by the implementation of the shunt active power filter on MATLAB-Simulink environment and the dSPACE 1104 platform respectively., Аннотация. В данной работе представлен простой адаптивный алгоритм предфильтрации, основанный на двойном обобщенном интеграторе с предфильтром второго порядка (DSOGI-WPF) для решения одного из вопросов качества электроэнергии. Данный алгоритм отвечает за определение опорных гармонических токов при контроле трехфазного фильтра шунта активной мощности (SAPF). Предложенный алгоритм используется дважды: для извлечения гармонических токов, создаваемых нелинейными нагрузками, и также является интересной частью оценки частоты и амплитуды основного напряжения при различных аномалиях, которые можно заметить по напряжению сети. Эффективность, точность и надежность предложенного метода подтверждаются при сбалансированном, несбалансированном и искаженном напряжении сети результатами моделирования и экспериментов, полученными при реализации SAPF в среде MATLAB-Simulink и платформе dSPACE 1104, соответственно.

This paper presents a hybrid algorithm that combines the particle swarm optimization method with the bacteria foraging technique, named: BF-PSO. The aim is to achieve more efficient and precise parameters determination of the regulators that leads to performance improvement in the speed-loop control of an induction motor (IM) implemented in a direct torque control (DTC). The approach consists of tuning the proportional-integral (PI) parameters that meet high dynamics and tracking behavior using the hybrid BF-PSO algorithm. Investigations have been completed with Matlab/Simulink and several performance tests are conducted. The comparison results are exposed with the most used indices in the controllers' tuning with optimization techniques. It will be shown that the presented technique presents better quality results compared to the conventional method of calculated PI.

Performance of single-phase converter connected to utility grid highly depends on accurate and fast detection of the grid voltage parameters, and to deal with these constraints even under quality drifts of grid voltage, various synchronization methods have been put forward. The most popular single-phase synchronization structures are those using the quadrature signal generator with phase-locked loops (QSG-PLLs). Among various QSG-PLLs, the PLL based on the third-order sinusoidal integrator (TOSSI-PLL) presents an effective synchronization scheme when the voltage is affected by frequency variation, sag, swell and high-frequency harmonics, but its efficiency decreases when low frequency harmonics have a high rate. This paper proposes an enhanced third-order sinusoidal integrator PLL (ETOSSI-PLL) for single-phase systems to upgrade the accuracy of the PLL. Simulation results of ETOSSI-PLL and TOSSI-PLL under grid voltage abnormalities are compared to show improved performance.

Purpose. Electricity is a basic energy for life and its consumption increased so we need the discovery of new sources of energy such as wind energy .for this ameliorate the quality of generated wind energy by using the intelligent artificial control, this control is made to optimize the performance of three-phase PWM rectifier working. Methodology. These strategies are based on the direct control of the instantaneous power, namely: the control direct power control (DPC) with classic PI regulator and direct power control with fuzzy logic regulator. The fuzzy characterized by its ability to deal with the imprecise, the uncertain has been exploited to construct a fuzzy voltage regulator. The simulation of these methods was implemented using Matlab/Simulink. Results. A comparison with the results obtained by the classic PI showed the improvement in dynamic performance. This makes the fuzzy controller an acceptable choice for systems requiring quick, precise adjustments and less sensitive to outside disturbances. Originality. The proposed this control strategy using for to obtain a performance adjustment of the DC bus voltage and sinusoidal currents on the network side. Practical value. Fuzzy logic is proven to be effective in terms of reducing the harmonic distortion rate of the currents absorbed, correct adjustment of the active and reactive power and DC voltage and unit power factor operation., Мета. Електроенергія є основною енергією для життя, і її споживання збільшується, тому нам необхідно відкриття нових джерел енергії, таких як енергія вітру. Для поліпшення якості енергії вітру, що генерується за допомогою управління на основі штучного інтелекту, таке управління призначене для оптимізації продуктивності роботи трифазного ШІМ випрямляча. Методологія. Дані стратегії засновані на прямому управлінні миттєвою потужністю, а саме: пряме управління потужністю з класичним ПІ-регулятором і пряме управління потужністю регулятором з нечіткою логікою. Нечіткість, що характеризується її здатністю справлятися з неточністю, невизначеністю, була використана для створення нечіткого регулятора напруги. Моделювання цих методів було реалізовано за допомогою Matlab/Simulink. Отримані результати. Порівняння з результатами, отриманими за допомогою класичного ПІ-регулятора, показало поліпшення динамічних характеристик. Це робить нечіткий контролер прийнятним вибором для систем, що вимагають швидкої і точної настройки і менш чутливих до зовнішніх перешкод. Оригінальність. Запропоновано стратегію управління, що використовує для отримання регулювання продуктивності напруги шини постійного струму і синусоїдальні струми на стороні мережі. Практична цінність. Доведено, що нечітка логіка ефективна з точки зору зниження коефіцієнта гармонійних спотворень поглинаються струмів, коректного регулювання активної і реактивної потужності і постійної напруги, а також коефіцієнта потужності роботи блоку.

Purpose. This paper targets to manage the energy of a hybrid fuel-cell (FC)/battery power system using an innovative algorithm. The hybrid FC/Battery power system is based on four stacks PEM FCs and a NiMH battery, boost and buck DC choppers for controlling the FC and the battery input currents respectively and a developed algorithm both for managing the power system energies and for delivering the FC and the battery reference output voltages compulsory for the DC/DC converters control circuits. The study is verified by means of computer simulations using MATLAB/Simulink where several cases of the battery SOC and the power demand levels were taken into account. The results demonstrate a good functioning of the proposed hybrid FC/Battery power system managing algorithm., Мета. Стаття спрямована на управління енергією гібридної системи живлення від паливного елемента/акумулятора за допомогою інноваційного алгоритму. Гібридна система живлення паливний елемент/акумулятор заснована на чотирьох батареях паливних елементів з протонообмінними мембранами та NiMH акумуляторі, підсилювачах і послаблювачах постійного струму для управління паливним елементом та вхідними струмами батареї відповідно та розробленому алгоритмі як для управління енергією енергосистеми, так і для подачі на паливний елемент і акумулятор вихідної напруги, обов'язкової для схем управління перетворювачами постійного струму. Дослідження перевірено за допомогою комп’ютерного моделювання з використанням MATLAB/Simulink, де було враховано кілька випадків рівня заряду акумулятора та рівнів споживання енергії. Результати демонструють добре функціонування запропонованого гібридного алгоритму управління системою живлення від паливного елемента/акумулятора.

This paper present new approach in robust indirect rotor field oriented (IRFOC) induction motor (IM) control. The introduction of new exponential reaching law (ERL) based sliding mode control (SMC) improve significantly the performances compared to the conventional SMC which are well known susceptible to the annoying chattering phenomenon, so, the elimination of the chattering is achieved while simplicity and high performance speed and position tracking are maintained. Simulation results are given to discuss the performances of the proposed control method.

Single-phase phase-locked loop PLLs based on SOGI-QSGs present the most common alternative to the conventional QSG-PLLs and that is on account of their simplicity and efficiency in the extraction of the grid information (phase-angle, voltage amplitude, and frequency) which essential in the control of the power converters connected to the utility grid. To minimize the total harmonic distortion (THD) and improve the power factor (PF), this paper presents a comparative study between two techniques of shunt power active filter (SPAF) by a selective action of harmonics. These two techniques are based on the SAPF of certain low frequency harmonics (5th and 7th) whose identification of the harmonics of references of the first is made by the axis synchronous d-q of the Park, and the second is done by the approach of self-tuning filter (STF) Thereafter, The active simultaneously filtering of the 5th and 7th harmonics of the current of load catches. The shapes of the signals and the THD values resulting from the results of digital simulations (Matlab-Simulink) elaborate the effectiveness and the best technique of this type of filtering.

In this paper, an intelligent control method for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a photovoltaic system under variable temperature and insolation conditions is discussed. The MPPT controller for boost converter based on fuzzy logic (FLC) is developed and compared to conventional tracking algorithm (P&O). The different steps of the design of these controllers are presented together with its simulation. Results of this simulation show that the system with MPPT using fuzzy logic controller increase the efficiency of energy production from PV.

This paper presents a new control strategy in variable speed drives for induction motor that is aimed at improving the indirect rotor field-oriented control, which is well known to be sensitive to internal and external uncertainties. The control principle is based on sliding-mode control (SMC) combined with space vector modulation technique. The SMC contributes to the robustness and good dynamics of induction motor drives, and the space vector modulation improves the torque and current steady-state performance by reducing the ripples. To obtain accurate velocity estimation and remove all mechanical sensors, the method of adaptive system with reference model (MRAS) and a Luenberger observer have been used to get the signals of speed and load torque, respectively. The performances of the proposed control method are tested in Matlab/Simulink.

This paper proposes basic concepts of a fixed speed wind turbine (FSWT), as an introduction to a modern wind turbine concept; also, energy extraction from the wind turbine, in order to highlight the utility of the Direct Torque Control (DTC) and Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) in the field of the quality of the electric power. The HCC will be applied to the grid side converter on the way to control the DC link voltage [1]. The Induction Generator (IG) wind turbine connected to the network using back-to-back PWM converters (AC/DC/AC). The theoretical principle of this method is discussed. From the simulation results, it is shown that DTC and HCC display several features, such as a simple algorithm and good dynamic response [2].

This paper presents a sensorless direct active and reactive power control (DPC) of grid connected DFIG using back to back PWM voltage source converters in the rotor circuit, the sensorless DPC has been proposed to overcome the drawbacks of large power ripple and variable switching frequency in classical LUT DPC. In this approach two vectors are applied during one control cycle and their periods are obtained in a very simple way. The stator active and reactive powers are made to track references using hysteresis controllers without including any synchronous coordinate transformations. A switching table is used to directly determine the first active vector, and to improve the system robustness with constant switching frequency a second null vector is also chosen, exhibits lower power ripples and better harmonic performance of stator and rotor currents. A sensorless method is implemented for detection of the rotor position based on the comparison between actual and estimated rotor currents. It has some similarity to the model reference adaptive system (MRAS) approach, but a hysteresis comparator is used instead of a proportional integral (PI) controller. Simulation results on a 2 MW DFIG system are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control strategy.

his paper present a new advanced control algorithm based on continuous minimization of predicted tracking errors, to achieve torque, rotor speed and rotor flux amplitude tracking objectives. This algorithm called a new Adaptive Nonlinear Predictive Control to induction motor drive uses a combination of the adaptive observer for rotor flux and Cascaded Nonlinear Predictive Control technique. The variables to be controlled are the rotor speed and the rotor flux norm, required to implement the predictive control algorithm is estimated by flux observer. The parameters identified adaptively are stator and rotor resistance which vary with motor temperature using the adaptive rotor flux observer. A stability of the proposed adaptive flux observer will be proved by the Lyapunov's theorem. Simulations are carried out in order to show the effectiveness of the drive and the robustness to parameters variations.

Vectorial Command of Induction Motor Pumping System Supplied by a Photovoltaic GeneratorWith the continuous decrease of the cost of solar cells, there is an increasing interest and needs in photovoltaic (PV) system applications following standard of living improvements. Water pumping system powered by solar-cell generators are one of the most important applications. The fluctuation of solar energy on one hand, and the necessity to optimise available solar energy on the other, it is useful to develop new efficient and flexible modes to control motors that entrain the pump. A vectorial control of an asynchronous motor fed by a photovoltaic system is proposed. This paper investigates a photovoltaic-electro mechanic chain, composed of a PV generator, DC-AC converter, a vector controlled induction motor and centrifugal pump. The PV generator is forced to operate at its maximum power point by using an appropriate search algorithm integrated in the vector control. The optimization is realized without need to adding a DC-DC converter to the chain. The motor supply is also ensured in all insolation conditions. Simulation results show the effectiveness and feasibility of such an approach.

The extensive use of non-linear loads in industry becomes increasingly a serious problem that affects the quality of energy delivered to customers. Therefore, the shunt active power filter (SAPF) has emerged as an important industrial tool to eliminate induced harmonic currents and compensating of reactive power. This paper proposes an improved control configuration for SAPF based on a modern technique called predictive direct power control (Predictive-DPC). The principle of this control is based on the direct regulation of the instantaneous active and reactive powers to guarantee a good energy quality on the grid side. For this purpose the appropriate average voltage vector which cancels power tracking errors is calculated by a simple predictive model at the bigining of each control period. This type of control includes various features such as the lack of look up table (LUTs) and closed current loops and the constant switching frequency is achieved through the use of PWM modulation. The results of the simulation process show a high performance in the steady and transient state function for predictive-DPC control that might be a reasonable alternative to conventional DPC in the field of active power filtering.

PurposeThe paper aims to explain the investigation of the space vector modulation (SVPWM), in shunt active powers filters (APFs) field, for controlling the generated current.Design/methodology/approachWith the inclusion of the SVPWM control technique, the proposed topology of the two‐level shunt active power filter (APF), based on IGBTs, besides its efficiency in harmonics cancellation and power factor correction, contributes in switching power losses reduction.FindingsThe paper provides an extended theoretical study and a detailed explanation of the application of the SVPWM on shunt APFs, and demonstrates how power losses can be reduced by limiting the switching process to the two thirds of the pulse duty cycle.Research limitations/implicationsSimulation and experimental validations will still be requested as to the accuracy of the model and the applicability to the polluted electrical power systems plants.Practical implicationsThe paper formulates an easy mathematical method to investigate the SVPWM algorithm with clarification of its various steps. It offers a benefit to people engaged in theoretical and practical research in APFs, inverters, and PWM modulation strategies.Originality/valueSince, there are few studies which clarify the application of the SVPWM on APFs, the paper may help to understand the mathematical implementation of this control strategy both for controlling the APF current and for gating signals generation.

Lot of works dealt with the robustness of the indirect rotor flux oriented control (IRFOC), however variation of electrical parameters of induction motor (IM), due mainly to the external condition like warming, cause the major problem of this techniques. In this work, we investigate and introduce a method called exponential reaching law (ERL) technique in the sliding mode controller to improve the control performance and remedy to the boring chattering phenomena. So the suppression of the chattering and the increasing of the reaching speed to the sliding surface is our first aim. As well, to get an adaptive sensorless scheme, a three classical proportional-integral controllers (PI) are included in the adaptation mechanism of the model reference adaptive system (MRAS) to obtain a conjoint online estimation of the rotor speed, the stator resistance (R S ) and the inverse of the rotor time constant (1/T r ) respectively. The proposed control technique is experimentally tested via the (RTI) blocks of Matlab/Simulink, and the dSPACE DS1104 card.

This paper proposes a sensorless direct power regulation based sliding mode control of a wind energy system. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the system control and tracking accuracy of rotor position estimator. Sliding mode approach introduces a direct calculation of rotor side and grid side converter voltages by the control law developed. A model-reference adaptive system (MRAS) is used to estimate the rotor position. Simulation results for the system are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the used control.

This paper presents a Direct Power Control (DPC) for the Rotor Side Converter (RSC) of Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) connected to the wind energy conversion system, as an alternative to the classical vector control (FOC). In this work a simple but effective DPC is proposed to achieve quick response and acceptable steady state performance at reason of using a conventional switching table to select the appropriate voltage vectors to the Rotor Side Converter (RSC). Furthermore for controlling Grid-Side Converter (GSC) system a conventional Direct Power Control (DPC) strategy will be compared with Fuzzy Direct Power Control (F-DPC) for controlling Active and reactive power flow exchanged with grid. Simulation results on a 2 MW DFIG system using MAT-LAB/Simulink are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control strategy during variations of active and reactive power, rotor speed, and converter dc link voltage.

The aim of this paper is to compare two different control structures. The Simple Direct Power Control (DPC) and the Direct Power Control with Space Vector Modulation (DPC- SVM) for two level converter applications. The first strategy (DPC) has been developed to control the instantaneous active and reactive power directly by selecting the optimum switching state of the converter. Applied to the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) converter its main feature is to improve the total power factor and efficiency, even harmonics components existence. In the second structure, the active and reactive powers are used as (PWM) control vari- ables instead of the three-phase line currents usually used in other techniques. It is shown that DPC-SVM exhibits several properties; good dynamic response, constant switching fre- quency, and in particular it provides a sinusoidal line currents. This paper presents an experimental studies of two well known strategies of induction machine (IM) drives; field oriented control (FOC) and Direct Torque control (DTC). The two Control methods are used in speed regulation using proportional-Integral (PI) and Fuzzy Logic controllers (FLC). A common hardware platform is realized, and a series of tests are conducted to emphasize the relative advantages and disadvantages of each method. This paper deals with rotor resistance estimation for induction motors drives purpose. A novel MRAS structure for rotor resistance adaptation is proposed. It is based mainly on the use of a very robust sliding mode flux observer as reference model, which gives robustness to the whole parameter estimation operation. Unlike to classical MRAS structure, based on the use of pure integrators, which have initial value and drift problems. By using the proposed MRAS-Sliding mode observer, system has a better performance and robustness. Effectiveness of this proposed estimation structure is verified by experiment under critical disturbance conditions.

In this paper direct power control (DPC) strategy is applied to control a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind energy generation system. A three level NPC ac/dc/ac converter is controlled by direct power control method. The rotor side converter is controlled by a novelle switching table based a double active power hysteresis band method. The selects appropriates voltage vector based on the instantaneous errors between the reference and estimated values of active and reactive powers and rotor flux position. Compared to the traditional energy resources, photovoltaic (PV) system that uses the solar energy to produce electricity considered as one of renewable energies has a great potential and developing increasingly fast compared to its counterparts of renewable energies. Such systems can be either stand-alone or connected to utility grid. However, the disadvantage is that PV generation depended on weather conditions. Thus there is also a need for developing control techniques for three phase grid connected PV systems including a method for DC link voltage control that can stabilize the voltage at the inverter input. This paper presents detailed modeling of the grid-connected photovoltaic generation system components, in Simulink / MATLAB software‥ Simulation results presented here validate the component models and the chosen control schemes.

This paper describes the modeling and control of a variable speed wind turbine system for medium power based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) which feeds an AC power grid. For that, two Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) voltage converters are connected back to back between the stator terminals of the PMSG and the utility grid via a common DC link, a mathematical modeling of the wind energy conversion system is developed, a distributed generation based on standalone wind energy conversion system (WECS) using a variable speed PMSG is proposed with the Hysteresis Band Current Control (HBCC), Voltage oriented control (VOC) and Flux Oriented Control (FOC). The goal in controlling system is to ameliorate the generated energy quality by regulating DC-link voltage U dc to follow reference value Udc ref . The validity of the developed unified model and the feasibility of the proposed control strategies are all confirmed by the simulated results using SIMULINK/MATLAB software programmes.

A novel structure of nonlinear integral backstepping control has been proposed for induction motors. We can see clearly that the structure of the controller generated by the classical version of backstepping is composed of a proportional action, which was added a derivative action on errors. Such a structure makes the system sensitive to measurement noise. The lack of integration means also the appearance of a constant static error, caused mainly by non-zero mean disturbances. The solution to this problem is to design a new version of the backstepping with integral action. By using the proposed integral backstepping controller, the system has a better load disturbance rejection capability. The effectiveness of this proposed control structure is verified by simulation as well as by experiment under critical disturbance conditions.

This paper deals with a wind energy conversion system (WECS), based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and an electromechanical active power filter (APF). The objective is to respond simultaneously to electric energy requirement and power quality concerns. The proposed WECS is able not only to track the maximum power point of the wind energy but also to dampen harmonic currents from the grid line. To achieve these purposes, back-to-back pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage source converters (VSCs) are employed to excite the DFIG rotor. To control the power converters, two regulation loops, following the field oriented control (FOC) method, have been conceived. The first loop, dedicated to the rotor converter, enables a decoupled control of active and reactive powers flows. As well, it permits the cancellation of the most noteworthy harmonics from the utility current. The second loop, devoted to the front-end converter (FEC), makes it possible to regulate the DC-bus voltage shared between the two converters. Furthermore, the paper provides a study of the DFIG sub and super-synchronous operating modes which can be reached by acting on the wind speed. To demonstrate the performance of aforementioned WECS, a Matlab/Simulink model was established and simulated. Results seem to be very promising.

A novel structure of backstepping control has been proposed for indirect field oriented control of induction motor drive. Voltage and current signals are usually contaminated with high frequency switching noises due to SVPWM inverter. The proposed structure avoids real time integration and its associated drift problems, which in practice are the source of generation of unwanted noise. These problems are typical in the PI controllers used in conventional indirect vector control for speed and current regulation. By using the proposed backstepping controller, the system has a good load disturbance rejection capability, fast dynamic response and less parameters sensitivity. The effectiveness of this proposed control structure is verified by simulation as well as by experiment under critical operating conditions.

A straightforward approach to suppress three-phase supply current and load voltage distortions is presented. This latter uses the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) topology made up of a hybrid active power filter (APF) combination based on a series APF, sharing a common DC voltage with a parallel APF, and passive filters. Supply current distortion is introduced by connecting a non-linear load, while load voltage distortion occurs after adding 5th and 7th harmonics to the AC main voltage. The series APF controller forces load voltage to be sinusoidal, whereas parallel APF and passive filters counter harmonic contents from supply current. A model established under Matlab-Simulink software shows the performance of such approach.

An adaptive nonlinear sliding mode controller combined with a field orientation scheme has been developed for the control of induction motor to achieve rotor angular speed and rotor flux amplitude tracking objectives. The inputs to the controller are the reference speed, the reference flux, the measured stator currents, the measured rotor speed, the estimated rotor flux, and estimates of the varying non measurable parameters. The unknown load torque and the rotor resistance which may vary during operation. The controller outputs are the reference stator voltages. An accurate knowledge of the rotor flux, the load torque and the rotor resistance is the key factor in obtaining a high-performance and high-efficiency induction-motor drive. The rotor flux is estimated using the induction-motor rotor-circuit model. Although the estimated rotor flux is insensitive to the stator-resistance variation, it does depend on the rotor resistance. A stable model reference adaptive system (MRAS) rotor-resistance estimator insensitive to stator-resistance variation as well as a load torque estimator have been designed. The use of cascade sliding mode control structure and continuous adaptive update of the machine parameters ensures accurate flux estimation and high-performance operation. Simulation results are presented to verify the stability of the induction-motor drive in various operating modes.

Generally, low harmonic frequencies such as the harmonic of the order 5 and 7 have a great influence to deteriorate the network current and interim the grid power factor. The objective is to cancel out the selected harmonic order from the network current. The shapes of waves and the values of the THD of the network current before and after applying the proposed technique are introduced. The system is simulated and investigated using MATLAB/Simulink. The results prove the effectiveness of the design and control strategy (α–β). This paper deals with design, analysis and simulation of a three phase three wire shunt selective active power filter. It compensates the harmonic currents selectively under balanced power network. In order to improve, the power factor of the supply network, an advanced control approach based on a multivariable filter is adopted. The novelty of the proposed control approach developed in this paper is to use a multi–variable filter (MVF), which can extract the harmonics content of load current reference, according to the axis of Concordia.
