An experimental investigation was conducted to analyze both experienced and novice systems analysts utilizing both procedural and object-oriented methods. A human problem-solving model based on Newell and Simon was used as the theoretical basis for the study. Findings showed that both novice and experienced systems analysts have higher subjective mental workload when using object-oriented analysis. Also, novices prefer object-oriented methods and find these techniques easier compared to experienced analysts.

Nobody really knows how much money is lost every year as the result of computer system abuse. The authors' research indicates that the losses could be substantial - and that many of them could be avoided if firms were more serious about deterrence and prevention. Their article is a call for proactive computer security administration: it outlines the most common forms of abuse, the most effective countermeasures, and the steps that can lead to effective security management. The article offers information on the contributions of Engine Regional Repair Center (ERRC) as well as the challenges it encountered in the U.S. In 2006, ERRC begun to deliver T56 engines by applying the fundamental principles of Lean manufacturing in line of Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21). It states that ERRC utilizes reliability-centered maintenance practices as well as estimated time-on-wing calculations as baselines to create more reliable engines.

The article discusses the command relationships between the American Expeditionary Force with the key leaders from coalition partners, the Great Britain and France. At first, the U.S. wanted to enter the World War I with the same standing as the two major coalition partners so as to express its voice in its dealings with both coalitions and war. As the country entered war, it was already involved directly in the coalitions to the point of protecting itself from domination of outside forces.

Interest in object-oriented analysis (OOA) and object-oriented design (OOD) has expanded rapidly over the last several years. Proponents of OOA and OOD have called the shift to these methods "revolutionary" and have cited a number of impressive claims with respect to their use. However, empirical research investigating these claims remains in its infancy. Moreover, an examination of the literature reveals inconclusive and often conflicting results for OOA and OOD methods relative to traditional data and/ or procedural techniques. This paper presents the results of an empirical study that examined both experienced and novice systems analysts using both procedural and object-oriented techniques. This research examined whether experience in using procedural methods helped or hindered performance using OOA and compared procedural and OOA methods on the subjective mental workload induced. A human problem-solving model adopted from Newell and Simon (1972) provided the theoretical framework for this study. Dependent variables include subjective mental workload, solution quality, time to perform task, and attitudinal measures. Although some of these dependent variables have been used in past research, we believe this is the first time that subjective mental workload (SMW) has been examined in an IS context. Our results indicate that both novice and experienced subjects demonstrate higher SMW when using OOA. The literature on physical database design in general, and on rile segmentation in particular, typically ignores any consideration of data security and the cost to enforce it. If records can be physically designed so that all data elements in a given record type have identical security restrictions for a given user, then data element level security enforcement can he transformed into the less costly rile level security enforcement for that user and file. Similarly, If all record types have identical security restrictions, file based security might be sufficient. This paper extends an earlier model for file segmentation to include security considerations. The extended model embeds the security measures into the logical file structure and exploits a four category taxonomy of security restriction types.
