Rubus lentianus Hohla, Király, M. Lepší & P. Lepší, spec. nov. (Figs 1–3) Type: — AUSTRIA. Upper Austria: distr. Rohrbach, Hintenberg, quadrant 7349bad, ca 1.2 km ESE of chapel in village, in scrub, one large growth, 730 m, 48°40’59.23”N, 13°56’27.56”E, 15 August 2020, M. Lepší & P. Lepší s.n. (Holotype: LI 03455388! isotypes: CB 87544!, M 0292443!) (Fig. 1). Description:—Shrub, usually up to 100 cm tall. First-year stems low to medium-arching, rooting at the apex, angled with ± flat sides, (3.0–)4.0–6.0 mm in diameter; dull greenish purple to conspicuously suffused with dark brown-red when exposed to the sun; with 0.1–0.5 mm long, adpressed to erect simple, fasciculate (mostly with two arms) and rarely stellate hairs, (5–)15–30(–50) hairs per 1 cm of stem side. Sessile and subsessile glands scattered, stalked glands uneven, up to 0.5 mm long, (1–)4–10(–15) per 1 cm of stem side, acicles scattered, 0.3–0.8 mm long, bristles rare. Prickles suffused with dark brown-red with a long, yellowish tip, ± equal, straight, slightly to distinctly declining (rarely patent), (6–)10–18(–22) per 5 cm of stem length, (4–)5–7(–9) mm long, compressed with a flattened base (3–)4–5(–6) mm broad. Primocane leaves pedate, usually 5-foliolate, but also 3- or 4-foliolate leaves present, leaflets remote to contiguous. Laminas flat, somewhat leathery, dark green above with (1–)3–10(–25) hairs per 1 cm 2, hairy to the touch beneath, greenish-grey felted, with dense stellate and few longer simple hairs. Venation medium weak, veins slightly depressed into the surface of the leaf. Terminal leaflets obovate to broadly obovate, rounded or truncate at the base, abruptly narrowing into a (10–)15–22(–26) mm long apex, petiolule (22–)28–34(–40) % as long as its lamina; margin slightly undulate, ciliate, indentation periodical, coarse, with partly recurved 2–4 mm long teeth, incisions (2.5–)4.0–5.0(–6.0) mm deep. Basal leaflets elongate, oblong or narrowly obovate, on ternate or quinate leaves often irregularly lobed or incised; petiolules (1.5–)2.5–4.5(–5.5) mm long. Petioles shorter than basal leaflets, loosely to densely hairy, with scattered subsessile and stalked glands, rare acicles and bristles, and with (6–)10–15(–18) hooked prickles. Stipules filiform, with scattered mostly simple hairs and sessile and stalked glands, usually (0.5–)0.7–0.9(–1.3) mm wide. Inflorescence usually 15–20(–30) cm long, conical, narrow to medium wide, truncate at the apex, with erectopatent or (in upper part) patent branches, distal (5–)7–10(–16) cm long part leafless. Inflorescence leaves greenish-grey and felted beneath, predominantly ternate, the uppermost 1(–2) simple. Inflorescence axis flexuous, densely hairy, with scattered stalked glands and fewer acicles and bristles, and with (7–)9–13(–15) prickles per 5 cm of axis length. Prickles unequal, declining, slender, straight to slightly curved, (3.0–)3.5–4.5(–5.5) mm long. Inflorescence branches 1–3-flowered; pedicels (5–) 10–20 mm long, felted, with scattered stalked glands or acicles up to 0.6 mm long, the longest ones longer than hairs, and with (4–)6–10(–14) ± equal, slightly curved, (1.0–)1.5–2.0(–3.0) mm long prickles. Sepals (5–)6–7(–8) mm long (including the short filiform appendix), first spreading to slightly reflexed and reflexed after anthesis, green-grey felted with whitish margins, with scattered simple hairs, scattered red subsessile and stalked glands and absent to rare short, red-suffused pricklets on the abaxial surface. Petals pink, hairy to densely hairy, spathulate, not touching each other, 8–10 mm long. Stamens significantly longer than styles, filaments white, anthers yellow, glabrous. Carpels hairy, styles yellowish green. Receptacle sparsely to densely hairy, with hairs up to 1.2 mm long. Collective fruits semiglobose to globose. Flowering (VI–)VII(–VIII). DNA-ploidy level:—Flow cytometric analysis has shown that Rubus lentianus is tetraploid (2n = 4x ~ 28). Because all taxa (ca. 15 species) of Rubus ser. Radula investigated so far have proved to be tetraploid (Krahulcová et al. 2013), this ploidy was expected. Etymology:—The epithet ‘ lentianus ’ derives from the Roman name of the city of Linz (‘ Lentia ’), the provincial capital of Upper Austria. Diagnostic characters:—Primocanes conspicuously dark, dull greenish purple to suffused with dark brown-red when exposed to the sun, scattered to medium densely hairy, with scattered stalked glands, rare to scattered acicles or bristles and (6–)10–18(–22) prickles per 5 cm of stem length; prickles suffused with dark brown-red, with a long, yellowish tip; leaves on primocanes mostly pedate (3–4–)5-foliolate, hairy to the touch beneath; indentation periodical, conspicuously coarse, with some recurved 2–4 mm long teeth and incisions (2.5–)4.0–5.0(–6.0) mm deep; terminal leaflet abruptly narrowing into a distinctive (10–)15–22(–26) mm long apex. Pedicels felted, with scattered stalked glands or acicles up to 0.6 mm long, the longest ones longer than hairs. Taxonomy:—Due to ± equal, uniform prickles and scattered stalked glands on primocanes and a greenish-grey indumentum of primocane leaves beneath, Rubus lentianus is a typical member of the series Radula. Deeply incised terminal leaflets of primocane leaves with a long and abruptly narrowing apex separate the species from all other members of the series Radula recorded within the distribution area of R. lentianus and adjacent regions. Most of all it resembles R. perpedatus, which differs in having 3–20 hairs per 1 cm of primocane side, primocane leaves (very) distinctly pedate, incisions of the terminal leaflet only 2–4 mm deep and pedicels with stalked glands shorter than the longest hairs. Another similar species, R. rudis, has, in contrast to R. lentianus, incisions of terminal leaflets of primocane leaves only 1.5–2.5(–3.0) mm deep, primocanes almost glabrous, with numerous short stalked glands and with smaller, (3–)4–6(–7) mm long prickles. To ease the separation of R. lentianus from all other members of ser. Radula actually or possibly co-occurring with the new species, we present a determination key below. The key does not include R. indusiatus and R. platycephalus, whose distribution, morphology and taxonomy is insufficiently known, as indicated by our research and other published data (cf. Trávníček et al. 2018). However, it is apparent from the type material and published descriptions (Weber 1997) that both taxa differ significantly from the new species. Rubus platycephalus can be distinguished mainly by 3-foliolate primocane leaves with shallower, 2–2.5 mm long incisions and shorter, 10–12 mm long apex; R. indusiatus differs in having primocane leaves with shallower, 1.5–2 mm long incisions and a narrow, ± cylindrical and racemose inflorescence. Ecology:—The species has been found in the colline and submontane vegetation belts between 260 and 730 m above sea level. It generally grows on mesic, acidic soils developed on siliceous bedrock, but it occurs also on slightly alkaline, semi-dry soils over gravel or clay subsoils. The species grows particularly frequently in coniferous forests (often Picea abies plantations). It prefers semi-shaded habitats such as forest fringes, reforested areas or edges of forest roads, in turn avoiding exposed sunny sites. Distribution:— Rubus lentianus was found at sixteen localities in Austria (in the federal state of Upper Austria) and ten localities in Germany (Bavaria). There are two main distribution areas: (i) the valley of the Danube between Vilshofen an der Donau (Bavaria) and Linz (Upper Austria) and (ii) the regions Innviertel and Hausruckviertel in Upper Austria (Alpine Foreland) with occurrences in the hilly area south of Sauwald. In addition, there are scattered localities in the Weilhartforst near the border with the federal state of Salzburg and in the region Mühlviertel north of the Danube (Fig. 4). The distance between the two furthermost localities exceeds 130 km, so the species can be considered a regionally distributed bramble (Kurtto et al. 2010). However, Rubus lentianus can be assumed to have a greater frequency and wider distribution in the southeastern part of Bavaria and Upper Austria. The species had probably been overlooked in the past because of its similarity with other species and singular biotypes of Rubus ser. Radula. History of the discovery:—Vojtěch Žíla was the first to notice the species, as documented by his herbarium specimens stored in CB under two provisional names—‘ Rubus paraprogelopsis ’ and ‘ Rubus bobii ’, nom. invalid. in schedis. To our knowledge, the oldest records of the species documented by herbarium specimens come from 2004 and were collected by V. Žíla near the town of Grieskirchen and the village of Weibern in Upper Austria (CB). Additional specimens examined (paratypes):— AUSTRIA. Verwilderungen der Farnarten Cyrtomium fortunei, Onoclea sensibilis und Osmunda regalis werden erstmals f��r ��sterreich publiziert, zudem wird ��ber die Erstnach��weise von Adiantum capillus-veneris f��r Ober��sterreich und Wien berichtet. In einer aktualisierten ��bersicht werden die Funde der 11 bislang registrierten neophytischen Gef����kryptogamen ��ster��reichs gelistet und der fragliche Status von Asplenium ceterach und Salvinia natans wird disku��tiert. Sporenmessungen an Belegen von Asplenium ceterach erbrachten weiters den Erstnachweis der diploiden subsp. bivalens f��r ��sterreich. Unter der Voraussetzung einer weiteren Kultivierung w��rmeliebender Farnarten und eines sich fortsetzenden Klimawandels mit durchschnittlich h��heren Temperaturen ist davon auszugehen, dass k��nftig weitere Adventivnachweise ���exotischer��� Farne bis hin zu lokalen Einb��rgerungen in ��sterreich folgen werden., [English title] Cyrtomium fortunei, Onoclea sensibilis and Osmunda regalis new for Austria, with an updated conspectus of Austrian neophytic vascular cryptogams [English abstract] Naturalization of Cyrtomium fortunei, Onoclea sensibilis and Osmunda regalis is reported for the first time from Austria. Furthermore, the first records of Adiantum capillus-veneris from the federal states Upper Austria and Vienna are reported. In an updated overview, 11 registered neophytic vascular cryptogams are reported from Austria, and the questionable status of Asplenium ceterach and Salvinia natans is discussed. Spore measurements were performed on specimens of Asplenium ceterach, and the diploid subsp. bivalens could be verified for the first time in Austria. Due to further cultivation of warmth-loving fern species and continuing climate change it can be assumed that further naturalizations of exotic fern taxa will happen in future.

On the basis of comprehensive fieldwork and herbarium studies, this paper provides the revision of 15 species in Rubus sect. Corylifolii (Rosaceae) in the Eastern Alps and adjacent regions (Austria, western Hungary and northern Slovenia), including an iconography as well as con��tributions to taxonomy, distribution and ecology for each species. For Rubus dollnensis, R. sendtneri and R. sylvulicola, a full list of revised records in the area is given: the first one occurs in Lower and Upper Austria, the second one in Upper Austria, and the last one in Salzburg, Tyrol, and Upper Austria. Rubus fasciculatus is reported here for the first time from Burgenland, Upper Austria and Vienna, moreover from western Hungary and Slovenia. Rubus franconicus had formerly a single published record from Austria (Upper Austria); it is presented here as a floristic novelty for Bur��genland and Carinthia, and, in addition, for Hungary and Slovenia. Rubus holosericeus is reported as a novelty for Burgenland, and at the hitherto easternmost localities of its range in Hungary. An inventory of revised localities of R. kletensis in Austria is presented: it occurs in the Innviertel and the M��hlviertel (Upper Austria). Rubus mollis is new for Burgenland and Vienna; its occurrence in Styria has been corroborated by an herbarium voucher. Rubus macrostemonides is recorded at its second locality in Austria (S Upper Austria), which lies 50 km east of the type locality, near Salz��burg. Rubus orthostachys is reported for the first time from the Eastern Alps and adjacent regions (Styria and Upper Austria in Austria, and western Hungary S of Lake Neusiedl). A second locality (at the same time, the only current one) of R. pruinosus is confirmed in Austria (Upper Austria), at the southern edge of the whole range. A novelty for the flora of Austria is R. scabrosus, a widespread west-central European species, recorded also on the southernmost margin of its range, at two locali��ties in the Innviertel (Upper Austria). The status of R. semitomentosus was investigated in Carinthia and Lower Austria: in lack of supporting material, its occurrence in Carinthia can only be assumed. For R. suevicola, the first reliable data are presented from Vorarlberg, and a new locality (the very southernmost one) is reported from E Carinthia. Rubus fasciculatus wird hier zum ersten Mal aus dem Burgenland, Ober��sterreich und Wien gemeldet, au��erdem aus Westungarn und Slowenien. Rubus franconicus hatte bisher einen einzigen publizierten Nachweis aus ��sterreich (Ober��sterreich); diese Art wird hier als floristische Neuheit f��r das Burgenland und K��rnten, aber auch f��r Ungarn bzw. Slowenien vorgestellt. Rubus holosericeus ist neu f��r die Flora des Burgenlandes und das bekannte Verbreitungsgebiet der Art wird durch einen ungarischen Fund Richtung Osten erweitert. Eine Bestandsaufnahme der revidierten Fundorte von R. kletensis in ��sterreich wird vorgestellt: Diese Brombeere kommt im Innviertel und im M��hlviertel in Ober��sterreich vor. Rubus mollis ist neu f��r das Burgenland und Wien; das Vorkommen in der Steiermark wurde durch einen Herbarbeleg best��tigt. Rubus macrostemonides wurde nach dem Vorkommen an der Typuslokalit��t bei Salzburg 50 km davon entfernt auch im s��dlichen Ober��sterreich gefunden. Rubus orthostachys wurde erstmals aus den Ostalpen und den angrenzenden Regionen (Steiermark und Ober��sterreich in ��sterreich, sowie Westungarn s��dlich des Neusiedler Sees) gemeldet. Ein zweiter Fundort (gleichzeitig der einzige aktuelle) von R. pruinosus wird in ��sterreich (Ober��sterreich), am s��dlichen Rand des gesamten Verbreitungsgebietes, angegeben und die Art f��r ��sterreich best��tigt. Neu f��r die Flora ��sterreichs ist R. scabrosus aus dem Innviertel (Ober��sterreich), ebenso am s��dlichsten Arealrand der Art. Der Status von R. semitomentosus wurde in K��rnten und Nieder��sterreich untersucht: In Ermangelung von Belegmaterial kann sein Vorkommen in K��rnten nur vermutet werden. F��r R. suevicola werden die ersten zuverl��ssigen Daten aus Vorarlberg pr��sentiert und eine neue Lokalit��t (die bislang s��dlichste) aus Ostk��rnten gemeldet. Rubus viridilucidus (eine regionale Art aus Mitteldeutschland) wurde weit entfernt vom locus classicus in ��sterreich (Ober��sterreich: Innviertel) gefunden.

Stoneworts (Characeae) have never been the subject of a systematic survey in South Tyrol. While there was a certain interest in this group of plants in the 19th century, further study of this group of plants failed to take place for almost a whole century. Since Characeae now play an important role in nature conservation, due in part to the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive of the European Union, it was necessary to compile an inventory of this plant group in South Tyrol. In this work we present a checklist of all Characeae species hitherto known to South Tyrol, discussing each species and its distribution.

The Carinthian Rubus flora is updated. In the course of this, several taxa are published here the first time for the Carinthian flora (Rubus austromoravicus, R. bicolor, R. grabowskii, R. pericrispatus, R. perperus, R. phoenicolasius and R. stimulifer). Artemisia gilvescens, Oenothera macrocarpa and Pseudosasa japonica – new forAustria – and further contributions to the alien flora of Upper Austria and Styria Records of 16 alien vascular plant taxa are listed. New for Austria (not listed in Walter & al. 2002 and Fischer & al. 2008) are: Artemisia gilvescens, Glyceria striata subsp. difformis, Heracleum sphondylium × H. mantegazzianum, Oenothera biennis f. sulphurea, Oenothera macrocarpa, Pinus wallichiana and Pseudosasa japonica. Neu für Österreich sind fünf Neophyten: ein historischer Herbarbeleg (von 1829) von Hieracium peleterianum im niederösterreichischen Donautal, Xanthium albinum subsp. albinum im Burgenland und in Wien, unbeständige Vorkommen von Sporobolus indicus in Wien und von zwei Zierpflanzen, Linum grandiflorum in Wien und Perovskia ×serotina in Niederösterreich. Wenige einheimische Taxa sind für ein Bundesland neu: Epipactis voethii für Wien, Orobanche alsatica subsp. libanotidis (= O. bartlingii) für Oberösterreich, Ranunculus penicillatus für Kärnten. Ein isoliertes Vorkommen von Daphne striata ist neu für die Steiermark und rätselhafter Herkunft. Höher ist die Anzahl für ein oder zwei Bundesländer neuer Adentiver: für das Burgenland Dianthus giganteus, Guizotia abyssinica, Polycarpon tetraphyllum, Smyrnium perfoliatum, Tribulus terrestris, Xanthium saccharatum; für Niederösterreich Azolla filiculoides, Cardamine occulta, Dianthus giganteus, Nicotiana tabacum, Perovskia abrotanoides; für Wien Arum italicum, Cenchrus purpurascens (= Pennisetum alopecuroides), Muhlenbergia mexicana; für Oberösterreich Vicia benghalensis; für die Steiermark Sagittaria latifolia; für Kärnten Cardamine occulta; für Vorarlberg Euphorbia saratoi. Wiederfunde verschollener Arten gibt es für Niederösterreich (Dinacrusa hirsuta, unbeständig), Wien (Amaranthus viridis, Silene gallica und Tragus racemosus, neophytisch), Oberösterreich (Thalictrum simplex subsp. galioides, einheimisch), Kärnten (Muscari botryoides, Status unklar), Salzburg (Tephroseris capitata, einheimisch) und Vorarlberg (Stachys germanica, neophytisch). Funde weiterer 32 Arten sind in anderer Hinsicht neu oder bemerkenswert. Ergänzende Angaben betreffen Status (heimisch, eingebürgert oder unbeständig), Häufigkeit, Standort, frühere Angaben, Verbreitung u. a.

Neu für Österreich sind drei Neophyten: ein Fleck von Symphytum bulbosum im Burgenland, ein unbeständiges Vorkommen von Euphorbia chamaesyce in Niederösterreich und ein lokal invasives Auftreten von Akebia quinata in Kärnten. Neu für das Burgenland sind Aposeris foetida, Potamogeton gramineus und Potamogeton nodosus (einheimisch), Panicum riparium (der Status wird diskutiert) sowie Aegilops cylindrica, Calepina irregularis (diese Art auch für Niederösterreich), Lonicera japonica und Elodea canadensis (neophytisch). Neu für die Steiermark ist Ranunculus fluitans. Neu für Kärnten ist ein neophytischer Scirpus aus Nordamerika. Neu für Salzburg sind Botrychium lanceolatum, Orobanche bartlingii und Seseli austriacum (einheimisch) sowie Draba nemorosa und Liatris spicata (neophytisch). Neu für Wien ist Ornithopus sativus (neophytisch). Als weiter verbreitet erweist sich Euphorbia saratoi (bisher meist mit E. virgata verwechselt): Burgenland, Wien, Niederösterreich, Oberösterreich und Steiermark. Wiederfunde verschollener Arten sind für das Burgenland Centaurea solstitialis (neophytisch) und Chaerophyllum aureum, für Kärnten Potentilla inclinata, für Salzburg Holosteum umbellatum sowie für Nordtirol Catabrosa aquatica und Hornungia pauciflora. Funde weiterer 20 Arten sind in anderer Hinsicht neu oder bemerkenswert. Fehlerhafte Tiroler Angaben zweier neophytischer Scirpus- Arten aus Nordamerika werden korrigiert und ergänzt. Merkmale und ökologisches Verhalten werden für drei Sippen von Ranunculus sect. Batrachium genauer behandelt; Ranunculus pseudofluitans wird hierbei nicht mehr als Unterart von R. penicillatus, sondern im Artrang geführt.
