Cooperative work enables a user’s group to collaborate on the same project. The use of a cooperative database system enables distributed users to cooperate on large data volumes. We modelize the cooperative work by alternative versions which belong to each participant and a merger mechanism which is controlled by a group supervisor. This model is a variant of the distributed architecture model, called the Workspace Model. This model proposes a distributed virtual memory of objects in a hierarchy of servers and clients. We have developed the WEA system, which implements this model.

In this paper, we are interested in the actors placing problem on a distributed architecture (transputer network and station network) and the management of communications between the different active entities on the network. The main feature of the suggested method of placing is the use of basic element called forms in order to group the actors of an application. The combination of the basic forms (pipes, matrix, trees) permits to construct various application architectures. Forms are managed in the same way as the other objects supported by the system. Hence, they are three types of objects to be placed on the network actors, forms and virtual communication channels. The aim of the method is to found an arrangement between the policy which consists to minimize the communication cost and the policy which try to balance the load of the network.

Lymph node biopsies of 12 patients at high risk for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) with generalized lymphadenopathy (AIDS-related complex [ARC]) and seven controls with conventional lymph node hyperplasia were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemical staining of frozen tissue. The immunohistochemical results were quantified by planimetric means. Our findings show that the T helper/T suppressor-cytotoxic (Th/Tsc) ratio in lymph nodes from ARC patients is significantly decreased with respect to controls and that this decrease precedes the change in the Th/Tsc ratio in peripheral blood. Our findings distinguish between lymphadenopathy from patients with ARC and other forms of hyperplasia; the relation to AIDS is discussed.
