Abstract The study explores the intricate relationship between topological indices and the heat of formation in the benzyl sulfamoyl network. Topological indices of benzyl sulfamoyl networks are studied and also emphasize their properties statistically. The benzyl sulfamoyl has unique properties due to its crystalline structure and it is used in the form of artificial substance. We analyze the distributions and correlations of the benzyl sulfamoyl network with others by using statistical methods and also build a computational analysis for topological indices. The findings show a strong association between the variables, indicating that topological indices may be used to accurately predict thermodynamic characteristics and improve the effectiveness of molecular modelling and simulation procedures.

Ecosystems at the southern edge of the permafrost distribution are highly sensitive to global warming. Changes in soil freeze-thaw cycles can influence vegetation growth in permafrost regions. Extant studies mainly focused on analyzing the differences of vegetation dynamics in different permafrost regions. However, the intrinsic drivers of permafrost degradation on vegetation growth remain elusive yet. Based on the top temperature of permafrost (TTOP) model, we simulated the spatial distribution of permafrost in Northeast China (NEC) from 2001 to 2020. Using the data of the vegetation Net Primary Productivity (NPP), vegetation phenology, climate and permafrost phenology, and analytical methods including partial correlation, multiple linear regression, and path analysis, we explored the response of vegetation growth and phenology to soil freeze-thaw changes and climate change under different degrees of permafrost degradation. Overall, the start date of the growing season (SOS) was very sensitive to the start date of soil thaw (SOT) changes, and multiple regression analyses showed that SOT was the main factor influencing SOS in 41.8% of the NEC region. Climatic factors remain the main factors affecting vegetation NPP in NEC, and the results of partial correlation analysis showed that only 9.7% of the regional duration of soil thaw (DOT) had a strong correlation with vegetation NPP. Therefore, we determined the mechanism responsible for the soil freeze-thaw changes and vegetation growth relationship using the path analysis. The results indicated that there is a potential inhibitory effect of persistent permafrost degradation on vegetation growth. Our findings would contribute to the improvement of process-based models of forest dynamics in the boreal region, which would help to plan sustainable development and conservation strategies in permafrost areas.

Introduction Recently, NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) and pyroptosis have been reported to be involved in traumatic brain injury-induced acute lung injury (TBI-ALI). Studies have shown that triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) may be one of the upstream molecules regulating NLRP3/pyroptosis, and 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3-receptor (5-HT3R) antagonists can inhibit NLRP3/pyroptosis. However, the role of TRME-1 in TBI- ALI, the therapeutic effect of 5-HT3R inhibition on TBI-ALI and its mechanism are still unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of ondansetron, a 5-HT3 inhibitor, on TBI-ALI, and to explore whether the underlying mechanism is related to the regulation of TREM-1. Material and methods A TBI-ALI rat model was constructed via lateral fluid percussion (LFP) brain injury, and either TREM-1 inhibitor (LP17) or ondansetron was administered as needed. Results TBI induced NLRP3 inflammasome, pyroptosis, and TREM-1 activation in rat lung tissues in a time-dependent manner. Inhibition of TREM-1 activity attenuated TBI-ALI; this is evident from reduced pathological scores, wet/dry ratios, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid protein levels and alleviated NLRP3 inflammasome/pyroptosis. In addition, ondansetron reduced NLRP3 inflammasome/pyroptosis and alleviated TBI-ALI. Moreover, ondansetron reduced TREM-1 activation in macrophages and lung tissue. Conclusions Ondansetron alleviated TBI-ALI. In terms of mechanism, TREM-1 promotes TBI-ALI via the NLRP3-related pyroptosis pathway, and the protective effect of ondansetron on TBI-ALI may be related to the inhibition of TREM-1.

Abstract This paper explores the complex interplay between topological indices and structural patterns in networks of iron telluride (FeTe). We want to analyses and characterize the distinct topological features of (FeTe) by utilizing an extensive set of topological indices. We investigate the relationship that these indicators have with the network’s physical characteristics by employing sophisticated statistical techniques and curve fitting models. Our results show important trends that contribute to our knowledge of the architecture of the (FeTe) network and shed light on its physiochemical properties. This study advances the area of material science by providing a solid foundation for using topological indices to predict and analyses the behavior of intricate network systems. More preciously, we study the topological indices of iron telluride networks, an artificial substance widely used with unique properties due to its crystal structure. We construct a series of topological indices for iron telluride networks with exact mathematical analysis and determine their distributions and correlations using statistical methods. Our results reveal significant patterns and trends in the network structure when the number of constituent atoms increases. These results shed new light on the fundamental factors that influence material behavior, thus offering a deeper understanding of the iron telluride network and may contribute to future research and engineering of these materials.

Abstract Objectives This study was designed to explore and validate the value of different machine learning models based on ultrasound image-omics features in the preoperative diagnosis of lymph node metastasis in pancreatic cancer (PC). Methods This research involved 189 individuals diagnosed with PC confirmed by surgical pathology (training cohort: n = 151; test cohort: n = 38), including 50 cases of lymph node metastasis. Image-omics features were extracted from ultrasound images. After dimensionality reduction and screening, eight machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), extra trees (ET), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), and multilayer perceptron (MLP), were used to establish image-omics models to predict lymph node metastasis in PC. The best omics prediction model was selected through ROC curve analysis. Machine learning models were used to analyze clinical features and determine variables to establish a clinical model. A combined model was constructed by combining ultrasound image-omics and clinical features. Decision curve analysis (DCA) and a nomogram were used to evaluate the clinical application value of the model. Results A total of 1561 image-omics features were extracted from ultrasound images. 15 valuable image-omics features were determined by regularization, dimension reduction, and algorithm selection. In the image-omics model, the LR model showed higher prediction efficiency and robustness, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.773 in the training set and an AUC of 0.850 in the test set. The clinical model constructed by the boundary of lesions in ultrasound images and the clinical feature CA199 (AUC = 0.875). The combined model had the best prediction performance, with an AUC of 0.872 in the training set and 0.918 in the test set. The combined model showed better clinical benefit according to DCA, and the nomogram score provided clinical prediction solutions. Conclusion The combined model established with clinical features has good diagnostic ability and can be used to predict lymph node metastasis in patients with PC. It is expected to provide an effective noninvasive method for clinical decision-making, thereby improving the diagnosis and treatment of PC.

Fine terrain classification is one of the main applications of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In the multiband fully polarized SAR operating mode, obtaining information on different frequency bands of the target and polarization response characteristics of a target is possible, which can improve target classification accuracy. However, the existing datasets at home and abroad only have low-resolution fully polarized classification data for individual bands, limited regions, and small samples. Thus, a multidimensional SAR dataset from Hainan is used to construct a multiband fully polarized fine classification dataset with ample sample size, diverse land cover categories, and high classification reliability. This dataset will promote the development of multiband fully polarized SAR classification applications, supported by the high-resolution aerial observation system application calibration and verification project. This paper provides an overview of the composition of the dataset, and describes the information and dataset production methods for the first batch of published data (MPOLSAR-1.0). Furthermore, this study presents the preliminary classification experimental results based on the polarization feature classification and classical machine learning classification methods, providing support for the sharing and application of the dataset.

Numerous studies have presented compelling findings regarding the favorable influence exerted by the construction of metro systems on the development of land use along the routes. However, the effects of metro network structure on land use change, especially the long-term dynamic effects, remain uncertain. To address this gap, this research utilizes land use coverage data and metro network data from Wuhan, China, spanning the period from 2014 to 2019. A complex network model is employed to analyze changes in the metro network structure, and the GTWR model is employed to investigate the impact of the of metro network structure on land use change. The results indicate that metro construction effectively stimulates land use change along the routes, predominantly leading to the conversion of non-construction land into construction land. Global accessibility, degree centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector centrality, within the metro network structure attributes demonstrate significant positive effects on land use change, and these effects exhibit considerable spatiotemporal non-stationarity. Additionally, built environment factors surrounding metro stations, such as population density, plot ratio, street intersection density, and the quantity of bus stops, also exhibit notably spatiotemporal effects on land use change. These findings indicate that government agencies and urban planners should concentrate on optimizing the distribution of the urban metro network to improve its overall structural efficiency. When planning the construction of the metro network, careful attention should be paid to the built environment near the stations to effectively facilitate land use development in the vicinity.

Purpose: Radiation-induced dermatitis (RD) is a common side-effect of therapeutic ionizing radiation that can severely affect patient quality of life. This study aimed to develop a risk prediction model for the occurrence of RD in patients with cervical carcinoma undergoing chemoradiotherapy using electronic medical records (EMRs). Methods: Using EMRs, the clinical data of patients who underwent simultaneous radiotherapy and chemotherapy at a tertiary cancer hospital between 2017 and 2022 were retrospectively collected, and the patients were divided into two groups: a training group and a validation group. A predictive model was constructed to predict the development of RD in patients who underwent concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cervical cancer. Finally, the model's efficacy was validated using a receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The incidence of radiation dermatitis was 89.5% (560/626) in the entire cohort, 88.6% (388/438) in the training group, and 91.5% (172/188) in the experimental group. The nomogram was established based on the following factors: age, the days between the beginning and conclusion of radiotherapy, the serum albumin after chemoradiotherapy, the use of single or multiple drugs for concurrent chemotherapy, and the total dose of afterloading radiotherapy. Internal and external verification indicated that the model had good discriminatory ability. Overall, the model achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of .66. Conclusions: The risk of RD in patients with cervical carcinoma undergoing chemoradiotherapy is high. A risk prediction model can be developed for RD in cervical carcinoma patients undergoing chemoradiotherapy, based on over 5 years of EMR data from a tertiary cancer hospital.

Abstract Acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury (AILI) is a pressing public health concern. Although evidence suggests that Bifidobacterium adolescentis (B. adolescentis) can be used to treat liver disease, it is unclear if it can prevent AILI. In this report, we prove that B. adolescentis significantly attenuated AILI in mice, as demonstrated through biochemical analysis, histopathology, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Based on untargeted metabolomics and in vitro cultures, we found that B. adolescentis generates microbial metabolite hypaphorine. Functionally, hypaphorine inhibits the inflammatory response and hepatic oxidative stress to alleviate AILI in mice. Transcriptomic analysis indicates that Cry1 expression is increased in APAP-treated mice after hypaphorine treatment. Overexpression of Cry1 by its stabilizer KL001 effectively mitigates liver damage arising from oxidative stress in APAP-treated mice. Using the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database, we verified that Cry1 gene expression was also decreased in patients with APAP-induced acute liver failure. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that B. adolescentis inhibits APAP-induced liver injury by generating hypaphorine, which subsequently upregulates Cry1 to decrease inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract Chronic constipation, diarrhea, and fecal incontinence have high incidence, potential disability, and socioeconomic impact, imposing a heavy burden on the quality of life. We aim to explore the association between cardiovascular health (CVH) and bowel health from National Health and Nutrition Survey 2005–2010. CVH is assessed using Life’s Essential 8 (LE8). Chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, and fecal incontinence are assessed based on Bristol Stool Form Scale classification, bowel movements, and bowel leakage. Better health behaviors (odds ratio [OR]: 0.71, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.53–0.94, p = 0.02) and worse health factors (OR: 1.45, CI 1.03–2.04, p = 0.04) were associated with less chronic constipation. Less chronic diarrhea is correlated with better CVH (OR: 0.53, 95% CI 0.35–0.79, p = 0.003) and health factors (OR: 0.61, CI 0.46–0.81, p = 0.001). Meanwhile, the proportion of chronic diarrhea significantly decreases when the health behaviors score exceeds 59.42. Lower fecal incontinence was associated with better health behaviors (OR: 0.63, CI 0.44–0.90, p = 0.01) CVH. Better CVH and health behaviors are both linked to lower all-cause mortality in participants with chronic constipation and chronic diarrhea. A higher health behaviors score is also associated with less all-cause mortality in patients with fecal incontinence. Maintaining CVH at the population level contributes to intestinal health, achieving the dual management of both while saving on healthcare costs. However, further prospective research is needed to confirm these associations.

Abstract Background and aims Chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1 gene is a rare intestinal disease caused by loss-of-function SLCO2A1 mutations, with clinical and genetic characteristics remaining largely unknown, especially in Chinese patients. This study aims to reveal clinical and genetic features of Chinese CEAS patients, highlighting the previously unreported or unemphasized characteristics. Methods We enrolled 12 Chinese patients with chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1 gene admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2018 to December 2022. Clinical and genetic data of these patients were collected and analyzed. Results 58.3% of patients were male, who also had primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, whereas female patients did not have primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy. Apart from common symptoms associated with anemia and hypoalbuminemia, abdominal pain, ileus, diarrhea, and hematochezia were present. 4 of the 5 female patients had early-onset amenorrhea, though the causal relationship remained to be clarified. Endoscopy and computed tomography enterography revealed that lesions can occur in any part of the digestive tract, most commonly in the ileum. Pathology showed multiple superficial ulcers with adjacent vascular dilatation, and loss of SLCO2A1 expression, particularly in gastrointestinal vascular endothelial cells. Genetic analysis confirmed SLCO2A1 mutations in all patients and identified 11 new SLCO2A1 variants for CEAS. Conclusions This study reports new clinical, pathological, and genetic findings in 12 Chinese patients with chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1 gene. This study provides insights into the pathogenesis of this disease. However, studies with larger sample sizes and more in-depth mechanism research are still required.

Abstract Highly efficient interconversion of different types of energy plays a crucial role in both science and technology. Among them, electrochemiluminescence, an emission of light excited by electrochemical reactions, has drawn attention as a powerful tool for bioassays. Nonetheless, the large differences in timescale among diverse charge-transfer pathways from picoseconds to seconds significantly limit the electrochemiluminescence efficiency and hamper their broad applications. Here, we report a timescale coordination strategy to improve the electrochemiluminescence efficiency of carbon nitrides by engineering shallow electron trap states via Au-N bond functionalization. Quantitative electrochemiluminescence kinetics measurements and theoretic calculations jointly disclose that Au-N bonds endow shallow electron trap states, which coordinate the timescale of the fast electron transfer in the bulk emitter and the slow redox reaction of co-reagent at diffusion layers. The shallow electron trap states ultimately accelerate the rate and kinetics of emissive electron-hole recombination, setting a new cathodic electrochemiluminescence efficiency record of carbon nitrides, and empowering a visual electrochemiluminescence sensor for nitrite ion, a typical environmental contaminant, with superior detection range and limit.

Abstract Introduction Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic psychiatric disorder that combines hypomania or mania and depression. The study aims to investigate the research areas associated with cognitive function in bipolar disorder and identify current research hotspots and frontier areas in this field. Methodology Publications related to cognitive function in BD from 2012 to 2022 were searched on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 989 articles on cognitive function in BD were included in this review. These articles were mainly from the United States, China, Canada, Spain and the United Kingdom. Our results showed that the journal “Journal of Affective Disorders” published the most articles. Apart from “Biploar disorder” and “cognitive function”, the terms “Schizophrenia”, “Meta analysis”, “Rating scale” were also the most frequently used keywords. The research on cognitive function in bipolar disorder primarily focused on the following aspects: subgroup, individual, validation and pathophysiology. Conclusions The current concerns and hotspots in the filed are: “neurocognitive impairment”, “subgroup”, “1st degree relative”, “mania”, “individual” and “validation”. Future research is likely to focus on the following four themes: “Studies of the bipolar disorder and cognitive subgroups”, “intra-individual variability”, “Validation of cognitive function tool” and “Combined with pathology or other fields”.

Abstract Three methods can be used to evaluate the colour used on architectural heritage: manual evaluation, instrumental measurement, and process restoration. Optical instruments that can obtain relatively accurate chromaticity data are ideal. As architectural heritage sites age, their colour fluctuates. Researchers must screen colour data and analyse the features based on experience with colour perception. This study combines quantitative colour analysis and a scaled perception survey to analyse the Wen Yuan Ge in the Forbidden City and provide a new reference for researching and designing colour in architectural heritage.

Botrytis cinerea is one of the main pathogens that harm the tomato yield and cause huge economic losses worldwide. Studies of circRNAs in response to the stress caused by pathogens have received more and more attention in tomato and other model crops. In this study, four groups were treated with ZaoFen (ZF), CuiLi (CL) (susceptible and tolerant genotypes to B. cinerea, respectively), ZFBc, CLBc (48 hour response to a B. cinerea infection). A total of 918 circRNAs were identified, among which exonic circRNAs (70.70%) accounted for the majority of them, and 118 circRNAs (12.85%) were located in chr1. A total of 18 (1.96%) circRNAs were shared among the four libraries. A total of 6 circRNAs showed fold changes in the differential expression analysis between the time and cultivar control groups, and circRNA115, circRNA145 and circRNA223 repeatedly appeared in the different control treatments. Notably, the gene targeted by circRNA115 was an ethylene-forming enzyme. At the same time, we predicted the target genes of the six circRNAs obtained in the study, and a total of 319 miRNAs were predicted. This study contributes to the mechanism in response to B. cinerea stress in the tomato, and paves the way for the further study of circRNAs under tomato pathogen stress.

Objective·To evaluate the effectiveness of the tele-rehabilitation program based on the smart wearable device BPMpathway in patients after total knee arthroplasty (TKA).Methods·Convenience sampling method was used to select patients with knee osteoarthritis after TKA admitted to both the Department of Orthopedics in the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital) and The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, from April 2021 to December 2022, as the study population. According to the sequence of the patients′ admissions, patients with an odd hospitalization number were allocated to the control group while those with an even number to the intervention group. The control group received the routine home-based rehabilitation training program, while the intervention group was additionally subjected to the tele-rehabilitation program based on the BPMpathway. At baseline, and 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after TKA, the two groups of patients were evaluated by the compliance scale of functional exercise for orthopedic patients, the Hospital for Special Surgery Scale (HSS), and 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), while the knee joint motion of the patients was measured.Results·One hundred and ten patients with knee osteoarthritis after TKA were finally enrolled, including 56 patients in the control group and 54 patients in the intervention group. There were no statistically significant differences in the general information between the two groups. The differences in knee range of motion, HSS score, and SF-36 score between the two groups at baseline were not statistically significant. Repeated measurement variance analysis showed that the between-group effect, time effect and interaction effect of knee range of motion, functional exercise compliance score, HSS score and SF-36 total score were statistically significant in both groups (all P

Purposes The high-value utilization of coal gangue has attracted attention, and the activation and action of coal-bearing kaolin have great significance value for utilization of coal gangue. Methods The thermal activation parameters of kaolinite in coal gangue were optimized by orthogonal test, and the compressive strength and microstructure of paste consisting of cement and metakaolin formed under the optimal activation conditions were studied. Findings The experimental results show that the optimum thermal activation conditions of metakaolin are calcination temperature 800 ℃, holding time 2 h, and grinding fineness of 2.82 μm. Calcination temperature has the greatest influence on the activity of metakaolin, followed by grinding fineness and holding time. By using metakaolin instead of 20% (mass fraction) cement, the compressive strength of cement paste at all curing ages, especially in the early age, can be improved effectively. XRD and SEM test results show that the pozzolanic reaction of metakaolin consumes a lot of calcium hydroxide, and forms calcium silicate hydrate with lower calcium-silicon ratio and denses structure.

Abstract Background The APETALA2 (AP2) transcription factor (TF) superfamily, one of the largest gene families in plants, plays an essential role in regulating plant growth and their stress responses. However, the role of AP2 in rice under pesticide stress remains unclear. To investigate the characteristics and functions of the rice AP2 gene family under pesticide stress, the expression of 105 AP2-coding genes and 26 AP2 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in mesotrione (MTR)-treated rice transcriptome datasets. Results Three subfamilies of the AP2 gene family (AP2/ERF, RAV, and soloists) were identified using sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis. Chromosome location analysis revealed that the 26 rice AP2 DEGs were unevenly distributed on 10 of the 12 rice chromosomes, and segmental duplication contributed to the expansion of Oryza sativa AP2 (OsAP2) gene family. Collinearity analyses demonstrated that rice AP2 genes displayed 16 orthologous gene pairs, and 12 and 26 orthologous gene pairs were shared of Arabidopsis and soybean, respectively. In addition, rice AP2 genes featured various gene structures, cis-elements, motif compositions, and conserved domains that allowed them to encode genes that elicit biotic and abiotic stress responses. An analysis of docking between MTR and six AP2 DEGs revealed amino acid residues involved in MTR binding. Quantitative reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction verified that several AP2 genes were preferentially expressed during MTR-induced stress. The roles of OsAP2 proteins in MTR metabolism were further supported by protein–protein interaction network analysis, which illustrated how these proteins interact with target proteins. Conclusion The initial findings of this study define the features of the OsAP2 superfamily and offer important tools for functional analyses of OsAP2 genes implicated in the metabolism of MTR. Abstract Due to continuing mining activities, Cd(II) and As(III) contamination in acid mine drainage (AMD) has become a major environmental challenge. Currently, there is increasing focus on the use of biochar to mitigate AMD pollution. However, the impact of biochar on the process of Fe(II) oxidation by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) in AMD systems has not been determined. In this study, we investigated the effects of introducing biochar and biochar-leachate on Fe(II) biooxidation by A. ferrooxidans and on the removal of Cd(II) and As(III) from an AMD system. The results showed that the biochar-leachate had a promoting effect on Fe(II) biooxidation by A. ferrooxidans. Conversely, biochar inhibited this process, and the inhibition increased with increasing biochar dose. Under both conditions (c(A. ferrooxidans) = 1.4 × 107 copies mL–1, m(FeSO4·7H2O):m(biochar) = 20:1; c(A. ferrooxidans) = 7.0 × 107 copies mL–1, m(FeSO4·7H2O):m(biochar) = 5:1), the biooxidation capacity of A. ferrooxidans was severely inhibited, with Fe(II) oxidation efficiency reaching a value of only ~ 20% after 84 h. The results confirmed that this inhibition might have occurred because a large fraction of the A. ferrooxidans present in the system adsorbed to the biochar, which weakened bacterial activity. In addition, mineral characterization analysis showed that the introduction of biochar changed the A. ferrooxidans biooxidation products from schwertmannite to jarosite, and the specific surface area increased after the minerals combined with biochar. Coprecipitation experiments of As(III) and Cd(II) showed that Cd(II) was adsorbed by the biochar over the first 12 h of reaction, with a removal efficiency of ~ 26%. As(III) was adsorbed by the generated schwertmannite over 24 h, with a removal efficiency of ~ 100%. These findings have positive implications for the removal of As(III) and Cd(II) from AMD. Abstract Background MicroRNA (miRNA) has been shown to play a key role in the occurrence and progression of diseases, making uncovering miRNA-disease associations vital for disease prevention and therapy. However, traditional laboratory methods for detecting these associations are slow, strenuous, expensive, and uncertain. Although numerous advanced algorithms have emerged, it is still a challenge to develop more effective methods to explore underlying miRNA-disease associations. Results In the study, we designed a novel approach on the basis of deep autoencoder and combined feature representation (DAE-CFR) to predict possible miRNA-disease associations. We began by creating integrated similarity matrices of miRNAs and diseases, performing a logistic function transformation, balancing positive and negative samples with k-means clustering, and constructing training samples. Then, deep autoencoder was used to extract low-dimensional feature from two kinds of feature representations for miRNAs and diseases, namely, original association information-based and similarity information-based. Next, we combined the resulting features for each miRNA-disease pair and used a logistic regression (LR) classifier to infer all unknown miRNA-disease interactions. Under five and tenfold cross-validation (CV) frameworks, DAE-CFR not only outperformed six popular algorithms and nine classifiers, but also demonstrated superior performance on an additional dataset. Furthermore, case studies on three diseases (myocardial infarction, hypertension and stroke) confirmed the validity of DAE-CFR in practice. Conclusions DAE-CFR achieved outstanding performance in predicting miRNA-disease associations and can provide evidence to inform biological experiments and clinical therapy.

Abstract Self-sustainable autonomous locomotion is a non-equilibrium phenomenon and an advanced intelligence of soft-bodied organisms that exhibit the abilities of perception, feedback, decision-making, and self-sustainment. However, artificial self-sustaining architectures are often derived from algorithms and onboard modules of soft robots, resulting in complex fabrication, limited mobility, and low sensitivity. Self-sustainable autonomous soft actuators have emerged as naturally evolving systems that do not require human intervention. With shape-morphing materials integrating in their structural design, soft actuators can direct autonomous responses to complex environmental changes and achieve robust self-sustaining motions under sustained stimulation. This perspective article discusses the recent advances in self-sustainable autonomous soft actuators. Specifically, shape-morphing materials, motion characteristics, built-in negative feedback loops, and constant stimulus response patterns used in autonomous systems are summarized. Artificial self-sustaining autonomous concepts, modes, and deformation-induced functional applications of soft actuators are described. The current challenges and future opportunities for self-sustainable actuation systems are also discussed.

Abstract Covalent organic frameworks (ZnP-COFs) made of zinc-porphyrin have become effective materials with a variety of uses, including gas storage and catalysis. To simulate the structural and electrical features of ZnP-COFs, this study goes into the computation of polynomials utilizing degree-based indices. We gave a methodical study of these polynomial computations using Excel, illustrating the complex interrelationships between the various indices. Degree-based indices provide valuable insights into the connectivity of vertices within a network. M-polynomials, on the other hand, offer a mathematical framework for representing and studying the properties of 2D COFs. By encoding structural information into a polynomial form, M-polynomials facilitate the calculation of various topological indices, including the Wiener index, Zagreb indices, and more. The different behavior of ZnP-COFs based on degree-based indices was illustrated graphically, and this comparison provided insightful information for prospective applications and the construction of innovative ZnP-COF structures. Moreover, we discuss the relevance of these techniques in the broader context of materials science and the design of functional covalent organic frameworks.

Abstract Objectives To assess the performance of multi-modal ultrasomics model to predict efficacy to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) and compare with the clinical model. Materials and methods This study retrospectively included 106 patients with LARC who underwent total mesorectal excision after nCRT between April 2018 and April 2023 at our hospital, randomly divided into a training set of 74 and a validation set of 32 in a 7: 3 ratios. Ultrasomics features were extracted from the tumors’ region of interest of B-mode ultrasound (BUS) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) images based on PyRadiomics. Mann-Whitney U test, spearman, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithms were utilized to reduce features dimension. Five models were built with ultrasomics and clinical analysis using multilayer perceptron neural network classifier based on python. Including BUS, CEUS, Combined_1, Combined_2 and Clinical models. The diagnostic performance of models was assessed with the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic. The DeLong testing algorithm was utilized to compare the models’ overall performance. Results The AUC (95% confidence interval [CI]) of the five models in the validation cohort were as follows: BUS 0.675 (95%CI: 0.481–0.868), CEUS 0.821 (95%CI: 0.660–0.983), Combined_1 0.829 (95%CI: 0.673–0.985), Combined_2 0.893 (95%CI: 0.780-1.000), and Clinical 0.690 (95%CI: 0.509–0.872). Abstract High-quality biofilm carriers are crucial for the formation of biofilm, but problems such as slow biofilm growth on the carrier surface have been troubling a large number of researchers. The addition of a carrier changes the flow state in the reactor, which in turn affects the microbial attachment and the quantity of microorganisms. Also, aerobic microorganisms need to use dissolved oxygen in the water to remove water pollutants. In this paper, a novel recirculating flow carrier with a hollow cylinder structure is proposed, with a certain number of hollow inverted circular plates placed at equal distances inside. In this paper, the hydraulic residence time, aeration volume, and the spacing of the inflow plates of the recirculating flow biofilm carrier, which are three important factors affecting the hydraulic characteristics of the reactor, are first investigated. At the same time, it was compared with the common combined carrier to find the optimal operating conditions for the hydraulic characteristics. Secondly, a reactor start-up study was carried out to confirm that the new recirculating flow biofilm carrier could accelerate the biofilm growth by changing the hydraulic characteristics. The results showed that under the same conditions, the hydraulic properties of the reactor were better with the addition of the recirculating flow carrier, with an effective volume ratio of 98% and a significant reduction in short flows and dead zones. The stabilized removal of COD, NH3-N, and TN in the reactor with the addition of the recirculating flow carrier reached about 94%, 99%, and 91% respectively, at the beginning of the 15th day, which effectively proved the feasibility of the recirculating flow carrier.

Abstract Background Approximately 10-15% of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients with overlapping features of ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD) are termed as inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU). This study aimed to describe the clinical features of IBDU and evaluate the potential associated factors of reclassification. Methods The clinical data of 37 IBDU patients were retrospectively analyzed from November 2012 to November 2020. 74 UC and 74 CD patients were randomly selected and age- and sex-matched with the 37 IBDU patients. Clinical characteristics were compared between the three patient groups. Potential factors associated with the IBDU reclassification were evaluated. Results 60% of IBDU patients displayed rectal-sparing disease, and 70% of them displayed segmental disease. In comparison to UC and CD, the IBDU group demonstrated higher rates of gastrointestinal bleeding (32.4%), intestinal perforation (13.5%), spontaneous blood on endoscopy (51.4%), and progression (56.8%). The inflammation proceeded relatively slowly, manifesting as chronic alterations like pseudopolyps (78.4%) and haustra blunt or disappearance (56.8%). 60% of IBDU patients exhibited crypt abscess, and 16.7% of them exhibited fissuring ulcers or transmural lymphoid inflammation. The proportions of IBDU patients receiving immunosuppressants, surgery, and infliximab were basically the same as those of CD patients. During the 79 (66, 91) months of follow-up, 24.3% of IBDU patients were reclassified as UC, while 21.6% were reclassified as CD. The presence of intestinal hemorrhaging was associated with CD reclassification, while hypoalbuminemia was associated with UC reclassification. Conclusions IBDU may evolve into UC or CD during follow-up, and hemorrhage was associated with CD reclassification. Different from the other two groups, IBDU exhibited a more acute onset and a gradual progression. When an IBD patient presents with transmural inflammation or crypt abscess but lacks transmural lymphoid aggregates or fissuring ulcers, the diagnosis of IBDU should be considered.

Abstract To investigate the effect of Oncometabolite succinate on colorectal cancer migration and invasion and to initially explore the underlying mechanism.Succinate acid detection kit detected the succinate content in tissues. The growth of colorectal cancer cells was measured by cck-8 assay, wound-healing migration assay and transwell migration and invasion assays, and then explored the level of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and STAT3/ p-STAT3 expression by western blot analysis and quantitative real-time PCR for mRNA expression. We found that succinate levels were significantly higher in carcinoma tissues than paracancerous tissues. After succinate treatment, the colorectal cancer cell lines SW480 and HCT116 had enhanced migration and invasion, the expression of biomarkers of EMT was promoted, and significantly increased phosphorylation of STAT3. In vivo experiments also showed that succinate can increase p-STAT3 expression, promote the EMT process, and promote the distant metastasis of colorectal cancer in mice.Succinate promotes EMT through the activation of the transcription factor STAT3, thus promoting the migration and invasion of colorectal cancer.

Abstract Background Oral inflammatory diseases are localized infectious diseases primarily caused by oral pathogens with the potential for serious systemic complications. However, publicly available datasets for these diseases are underutilized. To address this issue, a web tool called OralExplorer was developed. This tool integrates the available data and provides comprehensive online bioinformatic analysis. Methods Human oral inflammatory disease-related datasets were obtained from the GEO database and normalized using a standardized process. Transcriptome data were then subjected to differential gene expression analysis, immune infiltration analysis, correlation analysis, pathway enrichment analysis, and visualization. The single-cell sequencing data was visualized as cluster plot, feature plot, and heatmaps. The web platform was primarily built using Shiny. The biomarkers identified in OralExplorer were validated using local clinical samples through qPCR and IHC. Results A total of 35 human oral inflammatory disease-related datasets, covering 6 main disease types and 901 samples, were included in the study to identify potential molecular signatures of the mechanisms of oral diseases. OralExplorer consists of 5 main analysis modules (differential gene expression analysis, immune infiltration analysis, correlation analysis, pathway enrichment analysis and single-cell analysis), with multiple visualization options. The platform offers a simple and intuitive interface, high-quality images for visualization, and detailed analysis results tables for easy access by users. Six markers (IL1β, SRGN, CXCR1, FGR, ARHGEF2, and PTAFR) were identified by OralExplorer. qPCR- and IHC-based experimental validation showed significantly higher levels of these genes in the periodontitis group. Conclusions OralExplorer is a comprehensive analytical platform for oral inflammatory diseases. It allows users to interactively explore the molecular mechanisms underlying the action and regression of these diseases. It also aids dental researchers in unlocking the potential value of transcriptomics data related to oral diseases. Abstract Excessive uric acid (UA) is associated with age-related cataract. A previous study showed that a high UA level in the aqueous humor stimulated the senescence of lens epithelial cells (LECs), leading to cataract progression. To better understand the underlying mechanisms, we investigated UA-driven senescence in human lens tissue samples obtained during surgery, rat lens organ cultures, and in vivo experiments, using senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining, electronic microscopy, Western blotting, and histological analyses. Initially, we identified markedly higher expressions of NLRP3 and caspase-1 in the lens capsules of hyper-uricemic patients compared to normo-uricemic patients. This increase was accompanied by a significant rise in the SA-β-gal positive rate. We next built a cataract model in which rat lenses in an organ culture system were treated with an increasing dosage of UA. Notably, opacification was apparent in the lenses treated with 800 μM of UA starting on the fifth day. Mechanistically, UA treatment not only significantly induced the expression of NLRP3, caspase-1, and IL-1β, but also upregulated the levels of SA-β-gal and the senescence regulators p53 and p21. These effects were fully reversed, and lens opacification was ameliorated by the addition of MCC950, a selective NLRP3 antagonist. Moreover, an in vivo model showed that intravitreal UA injection rapidly induced cataract phenotypes within 21 days, an effect significantly mitigated by co-injection with MCC950. Together, our findings suggest that targeting the UA-induced NLRP3 inflammasome with MCC950 could be a promising strategy for preventing cataract formation associated with inflammageing.

A novel strategy of not only stimulating the immune cycle but also modulating the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment is of vital importance to efficient cancer immunotherapy. Here, a new type of spatiotemporal biomimetic “Gemini nanoimmunoregulators” was engineered to activate robust systemic photoimmunotherapy by integrating the triple-punch of amplified immunogenic cell death (ICD), tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) phenotype reprogramming and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) degradation. The “Gemini nanoimmunoregulators” PM@RM-T7 and PR@RM-M2 were constructed by taking the biocompatible mesoporous polydopamine (mPDA) as nanovectors to deliver metformin (Met) and toll-like receptor 7/8 agonist resiquimod (R848) to cancer cells and TAMs by specific biorecognition via wrapping of red blood cell membrane (RM) inlaid with T7 or M2 peptides. mPDA/Met@RM-T7 (abbreviated as PM@RM-T7) was constructed to elicit an amplified in situ ICD effect through the targeted PTT and effectively stimulated the anticancer immunity. Meanwhile, PD-L1 on the remaining cancer cells was degraded by the burst metformin to prevent immune evasion. Subsequently, mPDA/R848@RM-M2 (abbreviated as PR@RM-M2) specifically recognized TAMs and reset the phenotype from M2 to M1 state, thus disrupting the immunosuppressive microenvironment and further boosting the function of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. This pair of sister nanoimmunoregulators cooperatively orchestrated the comprehensive anticancer activity, which remarkably inhibited the growth of primary and distant 4T1 tumors and prevented malignant metastasis. This study highlights the spatiotemporal cooperative modalities using multiple nanomedicines and provides a new paradigm for efficient cancer immunotherapy against metastatic-prone tumors.

Abstract The combination of toripalimab (an anti-PD-1 antibody) with definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) demonstrated encouraging efficacy against locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the EC-CRT-001 phase II trial (NCT04005170). The primary endpoint of this trial was the clinical complete response rate (cCR), and the secondary endpoints included overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), duration of response, and quality of life. The exploratory analyses of EC-CRT-001 include exploring the role of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and blood-based tumor mutational burden (bTMB) in predicting the response and survival. In total, 118 blood and 35 tissue samples from 42 enrolled patients were included in the analyses. We found that ctDNA-negative patients achieved a higher cCR compared to those with detectable ctDNA during CRT (83%, 19/23 vs. 39%, 7/18; p = 0.008) or post-CRT (78%, 21/27 vs. 30%, 3/10; p = 0.017). Patients with detectable ctDNA during CRT had shorter PFS (p = 0.014). Similarly, patients with post-CRT detectable ctDNA had a significantly shorter PFS (p = 0.012) and worse OS (p = 0.004). Moreover, patients with high bTMB levels during CRT had prolonged OS (p = 0.027). In conclusion, ctDNA and bTMB have the potential to predict treatment efficacy and survival in ESCC treated with CRT and immunotherapy.

Compared to conventional ceramic particle-reinforced Mg composites, incorporating Ti particles into the Mg molten melt poses greater difficulty due to their significantly higher density compared to Mg. To develop a feasible and effective method for incorporating Ti particles, the water flow visualization experiment was used to reveal the optimum parameters of the stirring velocity, the height of the stirrer, and the angle of the stirrer to the horizon. Based on the results, the Ti/AZ81 composite was successfully fabricated at a variable speed (100–950 rpm/min) and height (4–10 cm) with an angle of 75° via nearly semi-solid stirring casting and followed by hot extrusion. The distribution of Ti particles in the Mg matrix was more homogenous, exhibiting fewer flaws and a higher recovery rate. The tensile results indicated that the Ti/AZ81 composite exhibited excellent comprehensive mechanical properties with an ultimate strength (UTS), yield strength (YS), and elongation of 374.5 MPa, 263.5 MPa, and 11.5%, respectively, which were superior to other Ti particle-reinforced AZ alloys. The characterizations revealed that the interfacial product AlTi phase was additionally formed and the Ti/Mg interface showed a strong bonding strength. The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was significantly promoted due to the particle-stimulated nucleation (PSN) and Ti particles weakened the precipitation of Mg17Al12. Based on the quantitative calculations, the increased strength was mainly attributed to grain refinement, the mismatch coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and the heterogeneous microstructures of Ti/AZ81 composite, in which heterogeneous deformation-induced (HDI) strengthening is dominant.

Granular computing is a novel method to solve complex tasks in the context of big data by simulating human problem-solving thinking, abstracting complex problems and dividing them into several simpler problems (i.e., granulation), which helps to better analyze and solve problems. In order to improve the accuracy of forecasting unemployment rates, this paper introduces the granulation idea of granular computing into the time series analysis of unemployment rates. Therefore, a novel method based on fuzzy information granules (FIGs) and grey system theory, namely FIG-GM(1,1) model, is proposed. This method not only reduces the dimensionality of the problem and computational complexity but also effectively reduces cumulative errors. In empirical analysis, three different performance indicators, mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and root mean squared error (RMSE), and seven comparative models are used to evaluate the forecasting performance of our proposed model. The empirical results indicate that the MAE, MAPE, and RMSE values of the FIG-GM(1,1) model are significantly lower than those of other models, indicating that the FIG-GM(1,1) model has better forecasting performance compared to other models.

Abstract T-cell lymphoma is a highly invasive tumor with significant heterogeneity. Invasive tissue biopsy is the gold standard for acquiring molecular data and categorizing lymphoma patients into genetic subtypes. However, surgical intervention is unfeasible for patients who are critically ill, have unresectable tumors, or demonstrate low compliance, making tissue biopsies inaccessible to these patients. A critical need for a minimally invasive approach in T-cell lymphoma is evident, particularly in the areas of early diagnosis, prognostic monitoring, treatment response, and drug resistance. Therefore, the clinical application of liquid biopsy techniques has gained significant attention in T-cell lymphoma. Moreover, liquid biopsy requires fewer samples, exhibits good reproducibility, and enables real-time monitoring at molecular levels, thereby facilitating personalized health care. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current liquid biopsy biomarkers used for T-cell lymphoma, focusing on circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA), circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTCs), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA, antibodies, and cytokines. Additionally, we discuss their clinical application, detection methodologies, ongoing clinical trials, and the challenges faced in the field of liquid biopsy.

Abstract The PD-1/PD-L1 pathway in mucosal immunity is currently actively explored and considered as a target for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment. However, systemic PD-L1 administration may cause unpredictable adverse effects due to immunosuppression. Here we show that reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive nanoparticles enhance the efficacy and safety of PD-L1 in a mouse colitis model. The nanoparticles control the accumulation and release of PD-L1 fused to Fc (PD-L1-Fc) at inflammatory sites in the colon. The nanotherapeutics shows superiority in alleviating inflammatory symptoms over systemic PD-L1-Fc administration and mitigates the adverse effects of PD-L1-Fc administration. The nanoparticles-formulated PD-L1-Fc affects production of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, attenuates the infiltration of macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells, increases the frequencies of Treg, Th1 and Tfh cells, reshapes the gut microbiota composition; and increases short-chain fatty acid production. In summary, PD-L1-Fc-decorated nanoparticles may provide an effective and safe strategy for the targeted treatment of IBD.

Abstract Background Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common brain tumor with the worst prognosis. Temozolomide is the only first-line drug for GBM. Unfortunately, the resistance issue is a classic problem. Therefore, it is essential to develop new drugs to treat GBM. As an oncogene, Skp2 is involved in the pathogenesis of various cancers including GBM. In this study, we investigated the anticancer effect of AAA237 on human glioblastoma cells and its underlying mechanism. Methods CCK-8 assay was conducted to evaluate IC50 values of AAA237 at 48, and 72 h, respectively. The Cellular Thermal Shift Assay (CETSA) was employed to ascertain the status of Skp2 as an intrinsic target of AAA237 inside the cellular milieu. The EdU-DNA synthesis test, Soft-Agar assay and Matrigel assay were performed to check the suppressive effects of AAA237 on cell growth. To identify the migration and invasion ability of GBM cells, transwell assay was conducted. RT-qPCR and Western Blot were employed to verify the level of BNIP3. The mRFP-GFP-LC3 indicator system was utilized to assess alterations in autophagy flux and investigate the impact of AAA237 on the dynamic fusion process between autophagosomes and lysosomes. To investigate the effect of compound AAA237 on tumor growth in vivo, LN229 cells were injected into the brains of mice in an orthotopic model. Results AAA237 could inhibit the growth of GBM cells in vitro. AAA237 could bind to Skp2 and inhibit Skp2 expression and the degradation of p21 and p27. In a dose-dependent manner, AAA237 demonstrated the ability to inhibit colony formation, migration, and invasion of GBM cells. AAA237 treatment could upregulate BNIP3 as the hub gene and therefore induce BNIP3-dependent autophagy through the mTOR pathway whereas 3-MA can somewhat reverse this process. In vivo, the administration of AAA237 effectively suppressed the development of glioma tumors with no side effects. Conclusion Compound AAA237, a novel Skp2 inhibitor, inhibited colony formation, migration and invasion of GBM cells in a dose-dependent manner and time-dependent manner through upregulating BNIP3 as the hub gene and induced BNIP3-dependent autophagy through the mTOR pathway therefore it might be a viable therapeutic drug for the management of GBM. Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal disease caused by an enzyme deficiency of alpha-galactosidase A (α-gal A). This deficiency leads to the accumulation of glycosphingolipids in lysosomes, resulting in a range of clinical symptoms. The complex pathogenesis of FD involves lysosomal dysfunction, altered autophagy, and mitochondrial abnormalities. Omics sciences, particularly transcriptomic analysis, comprehensively understand molecular mechanisms underlying diseases. This study focuses on genome-wide expression analysis in an FD human podocyte model to gain insights into the underlying mechanisms of podocyte dysfunction. Human control and GLA-edited podocytes were used. Gene expression data was generated using RNA-seq analysis, and differentially expressed genes were identified using DESeq2. Principal component analysis and Spearman correlation have explored gene expression trends. Functional enrichment and Reporter metabolite analyses were conducted to identify significantly affected metabolites and metabolic pathways. Differential expression analysis revealed 247 genes with altered expression levels in GLA-edited podocytes compared to control podocytes. Among these genes, 136 were underexpressed, and 111 were overexpressed in GLA-edited cells. Functional analysis of differentially expressed genes showed their involvement in various pathways related to oxidative stress, inflammation, fatty acid metabolism, collagen and extracellular matrix homeostasis, kidney injury, apoptosis, autophagy, and cellular stress response. The study provides insights into molecular mechanisms underlying Fabry podocyte dysfunction. Integrating transcriptomics data with genome-scale metabolic modeling further unveiled metabolic alterations in GLA-edited podocytes. This comprehensive approach contributes to a better understanding of Fabry disease and may lead to identifying new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for this rare lysosomal disorder.

The saliva microbiota has been linked to circadian rhythms, and our previous research revealed dysrhythmic saliva metabolites in MPA subjects with sleep disorders (MPASD). In addition, acupuncture had positive effects. ObjectiveTo investigate the association between dietary and some other environmental factors and the risk of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) in Chinese population.Materials and methodsA multicenter case-control study was conducted involving 11 hospitals across China. A total of 1,230 subjects were enrolled consecutively, and diet and environmental factor questionnaires were collected. IBD patients were matched with healthy controls (HC) using propensity-score matching (PSM) at a 1:1 ratio with a caliper value of 0.02. Multivariate conditional logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations between diet, environmental factors, and IBD.ResultsModerate alcohol and milk consumption, as well as daily intake of fresh fruit, were protective factors for both Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Conversely, the consumption of eggs and chocolate increased the risk of IBD. Outdoor time for more than 25% of the day was a protective factor only for CD. In eastern regions of China, CD patients had higher egg consumption and less outdoor time, while UC patients consumed more chocolate. IBD patients from urban areas or with higher per capita monthly income consumed more fruit, eggs, and chocolate.ConclusionsThis study reveals an association between specific foods, outdoor time, and the emergence of IBD in the Chinese population. The findings emphasize the importance of a balanced diet, sufficient outdoor time and activities, and tailored prevention strategies considering regional variations.

Near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) doped with organic small-molecule photothermal agents have garnered scientific attention. However, the challenge remains in designing and synthesizing mesogenic photothermal dyes with absorption wavelengths greater than 800 nm. In this research, we design a novel discotic mesogenic NIR absorbing dye, namely the nickel bis(dithiolene) complex YHD868, and prepare NIR-responsive LCE/YHD868 composite films. The discotic mesogenic molecule YHD868 possesses a columnar hexagonal mesophase and exhibits intense NIR absorption at 868 nm, with a photothermal conversion efficiency of about 27 % and a molar extinction coefficient of approximately 30000 M−1·cm−1. Due to the strong NIR absorption of YHD868, combined with its excellent photothermal stability, the LCE/YHD868 composite films exhibit remarkable photoresponse and mechanical properties. Even at a low doping concentration of 0.2 wt%, the composite film can achieve a tensile strength of 9.8 MPa and an elongation at break of 165 %. Under 880 nm NIR irradiation (3.3 W·cm−2), the film can complete reversible photo-induced shrinking deformation in just 2 s, with a shrinkage ratio of about 64 %. This work offers a new approach for the development of photo-responsive smart soft materials.

Abstract In this article, a fast algorithm is studied to recover the sparse signals. It can be regarded as an extension of the parameterized fast iterative shrinkage‐thresholding algorithm from convex optimization to nonconvex optimization. Numerical results show that the proposed fast algorithm is efficient and fast in recovering the sparse signals.

Objective: This study aimed to delineate the clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) intrinsic subtypes through unsupervised clustering of radiomics and transcriptomics data and to evaluate their associations with clinicopathological features, prognosis, and molecular characteristics. Methods: Using a retrospective dual-center approach, we gathered transcriptomic and clinical data from ccRCC patients registered in The Cancer Genome Atlas and contrast-enhanced computed tomography images from The Cancer Imaging Archive and local databases. Following the segmentation of images, radiomics feature extraction, and feature preprocessing, we performed unsupervised clustering based on the “CancerSubtypes” package to identify distinct radiotranscriptomic subtypes, which were then correlated with clinical-pathological, prognostic, immune, and molecular characteristics. Results: Clustering identified three subtypes, C1, C2, and C3, each of which displayed unique clinicopathological, prognostic, immune, and molecular distinctions. Notably, subtypes C1 and C3 were associated with poorer survival outcomes than subtype C2. Pathway analysis highlighted immune pathway activation in C1 and metabolic pathway prominence in C2. Gene mutation analysis identified VHL and PBRM1 as the most commonly mutated genes, with more mutated genes observed in the C3 subtype. Despite similar tumor mutation burdens, microsatellite instability, and RNA interference across subtypes, C1 and C3 demonstrated greater tumor immune dysfunction and rejection. In the validation cohort, the various subtypes showed comparable results in terms of clinicopathological features and prognosis to those observed in the training cohort, thus confirming the efficacy of our algorithm. Conclusion: Unsupervised clustering based on radiotranscriptomics can identify the intrinsic subtypes of ccRCC, and radiotranscriptomic subtypes can characterize the prognosis and molecular features of tumors, enabling noninvasive tumor risk stratification.

Fusing multi-modal information from visible (VIS) and thermal infrared (TIR) images is crucial for object detection in fully adapting to varied lighting conditions. However, the existing models usually treat VIS and TIR images as independent information and extract corresponding features from separate networks due to the scarcity of training data with labeled instances from both VIS and TIR registration images. To fill this gap, a novel Multi-Modal Fusion NETwork (M2FNet) based on the Transformer architecture is proposed in this paper, which contains two effective modules: the Union-Modal Attention (UMA) and the Cross-Modal Attention (CMA). The UMA module aggregates multi-spectral features from VIS and TIR images and then extracts multi-modal features via a convolutional neural network (CNN) backbone. The CMA module is designed to learn cross-attention features from VIS and TIR pairwise features by Transformer architecture. Evaluation results by the mean average precision (mAP) metric show that the M2FNet method significantly advances the baseline methods trained using only VIS or TIR images by 10.71 % and 2.97 %, respectively. The increments in mAP are observed in the M2FNet method compared with the existing multi-modal methods on two public datasets. Sensitivity analysis of eight illumination thresholds shows that the M2FNet method presents robustness performance on varied illumination conditions and achieves the maximum increase in accuracy of 25.6 %. Moreover, this method is subsequently applied to a new testing dataset, VI2DA (Visible-Infrared paired Video and Image DAtaset), observed by diverse sensors and platforms for testing the generalization ability of object detectors, which will be publicly available at https://github.com/TIR-OD/Datasets.
