ObjectivesMortality and associated risk factors in young and elderly haemodialysis patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) have not been well examined in China. Therefore, we aimed to assess the all-cause mortality and risk factors associated with all-cause mortality between young and elderly haemodialysis patients in China.DesignA population-based multicentre retrospective cohort study.SettingUsing the Dialysis Initiation based on Fuzzy mathematics Equation study data, patients with ESKD undergoing maintenance haemodialysis from 24 centres in China from 1 January 2008 to 30 September 2015.Participants1601 enrolled patients with ESKD were categorised into young group (18–44 years old) and elderly (≥60 years old) group.Outcome measuresThe primary outcome was all-cause mortality. We estimated overall survival using a log-rank test. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was implemented to identify risk factors and HR associated all-cause mortality.ResultsDuring a mean follow-up of 48.17±25.59 months, of the 1601 subjects, 319 (19.92%) patients death, including 64 (9.97%) in young group and 255 (26.59%) in elderly group, respectively. The cumulative survival in elderly group was lower than young group (Log Rank tests=63.31, pConclusionsThe all-cause mortality of elderly haemodialysis patients were higher than young haemodialysis patients in China. Identified risk factors associated all-cause mortality may inform development of age-appropriate treatment, intervention strategies and improve survival prognosis of this unique population.

IntroductionRoxadustat is a first-in-class oral therapy that treats chronic kidney disease (CKD) anaemia with the benefit of a novel mechanism of action that consistently corrects and maintains haemoglobin (Hb) across the spectrum of non-dialysis-dependent (NDD) CKD anaemia with an acceptable safety profile.Methods and analysisThis is a randomised, control, open-label, multicentre trial. About 250 adult Chinese participants with stage 3–5 CKD NDD in approximately 30 centres will be enrolled, randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio, to receive a 16-week treatment and 4-week follow-up. The interventions for study arm are Ethics and disseminationThe Medical Ethics Committee of Chinese PLA General Hospital has approved this study (No. S2020-523-05) and will be performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) is an incurable pathological lesion in progressive chronic kidney diseases. Myofibroblast proliferation and microvascular damage are two important events in RIF, and pericytes are a major source of myofibroblasts in the kidney. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly characterized. We report that core fucosylation (CF), a post-translational modification of proteins, is essential for pericyte activation by regulating profibrotic and antifibrotic signaling pathways as a “hub-like” target. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes reside specifically in the obstructed kidney and deliver microRNA (miR)-34c-5p to inhibit CF, reducing pericyte activation and renal fibrosis. Furthermore, we clarify that the CD81–EGFR ligand–receptor complex aids the entry of exosomal miR-34c-5p into pericytes. Our results reveal a novel mechanism of pericyte activation based on CF and suggest a potential use of MSC exosomes as a new therapeutic strategy for RIF by inhibiting CF, the hub-like target of profibrotic signaling activation.

BACKGROUND The effect of conversion to cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated protein 4 immunoglobulin (CTLA4Ig) treatment on tacrolimus (TAC)-induced renal dysfunction is well known, but its effect on TAC-induced diabetes mellitus (DM) is still undetermined. In the present study, we tested the diabetogenicity of CTLA4Ig and evaluated the effect of conversion to CTLA4Ig treatment on TAC-induced diabetic rats. METHODS We tested diabetogenicity of CTLA4Ig by escalating doses (0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 mg/kg weekly) for 4 weeks. In the conversion study, we administered TAC (1.5 mg/kg) for 3 weeks and confirmed TAC-induced DM by intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test. Thereafter, TAC administration was continued, withdrawn, or replaced by CTLA4Ig treatment (1 or 2 mg/kg) for additional 3 weeks. The effect of CTLA4Ig on TAC-induced DM in vivo and in vitro was evaluated by assessing pancreatic islet function, histopathology, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and macrophage infiltration. RESULTS Intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test in the CTLA4Ig groups did not differ from the control group. In addition, plasma insulin level, glucose-induced insulin secretion, and islet viability were not different between the CTLA4Ig and control groups. In the conversion study, TAC withdrawal ameliorated pancreatic islet dysfunction compared with the TAC group, and conversion to CTLA4Ig further improved pancreatic islet function compared with the TAC withdrawal group. TAC-induced oxidative stress, apoptotic cell death, and infiltration of macrophages decreased with TAC withdrawal, and CTLA4Ig conversion further reduced those values. In the in vitro study, CTLA4Ig decreased TAC-induced pancreatic islet cell death and reactive oxygen species production. CONCLUSIONS CTLA4Ig was not diabetogenic, and conversion to CTLA4Ig reduced TAC-induced pancreatic islet injury.

In this study, we reviewed the existing literature on customer knowledge management, paying special attention to the analytical and methodological studies, to define six success factors for assessing a company’s customer knowledge management strategy. To assess these success factors, we opted to conduct a case study on Mobilink, Pakistan’s leading telecommunications provider. Using our literature reviews, we devised a novel methodology that paired an external source-based assessment model, known as the Butterfly Model, and found that of the total 76 mechanisms outlined in the Butterfly Model, only 12 were not at all present at Mobilink, with a further 6 being unclear whether or not they were present also 47% of respondents agreed that grievances expressed by product consumers are a vital factor for thinking of and producing improved products, while another 40% mentioned that they thoroughly scrutinized the suggestions received by their customers before starting the major phase of the product development process. Around 37% of the respondents agreed that Mobilink encourage their customers to contribute in new and better products. The study concludes with some future directions by involving company stakeholders and academic researchers in customer knowledge management strategies

Out-of-stock (OOS) problem is a significant reason of the decline of goods sales in offline supermarkets since the frequent lack of goods on the shelves can reduce the enthusiasm of shoppers. For this purpose, it is necessary to effectively detect the OOS situation, which can ensure that the products are replenished in time. In this paper, an out-of-stock detection method based on deep learning is proposed. We first introduce the Faster R-CNN algorithm to obtain location information. Then the Faster R-CNN algorithm is followed by three out-of-stock detection methods: canny operator, gray level co-occurrence matrix, and color features for out-of-stock detection. The experimental results show that the method based on canny operator performs better, which can achieve a recall rate of 83.9%, a precision rate of 91.7% and a F1-Measure of 87.6% in real scene dataset.

To follow up the participants of the randomized clinical trial "Efficacy and Safety of Niaoduqing Particles () for Delaying Moderate-to-Severe Renal Dysfunction", and assess the long-term effects of Niaoduqing Particles on delaying the progression of renal dysfunction.Participants, who had previously been randomly assigned to receive Niaoduqing Particles or placebo for 24 weeks (146 cases in each group), were invited to follow-up and all were administered Niaoduqing Particles 5 g thrice daily and 10 g before bedtime for 24 weeks. The primary endpoints were changes in baseline serum creatinine (Scr) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) after completion of the open-label treatment period.After the double-blind period, the median (interquartile range) changes in Scr were 1.1 (-13.0-24.1) and 11.7 (-2.6-42.9) μmol/L for the Niaoduqing Particle and placebo groups, respectively (P=0.008), and the median changes in eGFRs were-0.2 (-4.3-2.7) and-2.21 (-5.7-0.8) mL•minNiaoduqing Particles appear to have long-term efficacy for patients with moderate-to-severe renal dysfunction. Although there was no statistical difference, the early use of Niaoduqing Paticles seems to ameliorate the worsening of renal function. (Trial registration No. ChiCTR-TRC-12002448).

In this paper, single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) suspensions were added dropwise to silica particles before volatising the solvent to prepare a core-shell composite adsorbent with SWCNTs wrapped around silica particles (SWCNTsSilica). The composite adsorbent was used as packing for the solid phase extraction (SPE) and the enrichment of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) in water. The results indicate the SWCNTs entirely wrap the silica particle surfaces to form SWCNT shells. This preparation method is simpler and more efficient than existing methods. SWCNTsSilica composite materials can reduce the number of SWCNTs required and improve their utilization. The extraction capacity for OOPs in water was higher than for C but below HLB. The developed SPE-GC-FPD method exhibited a limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 0.593~1.759 μg/L and 1.95~5.80 μg/L, respectively and satisfactorily measured Jiulong river and farmland water samples.

It is well‑established that steroid‑resistant nephrotic syndrome commonly involves podocytic injury, however, the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Previous studies have demonstrated that glucocorticoids enhance podocytic recovery predominantly through the functional isoform, glucocorticoid receptor (GR)α. Our previous study demonstrated the reduced expression of GRα in podocytes from patients with steroid‑resistant nephrotic syndrome compared with those with steroid‑sensitive syndromes, which suggested that microRNAs (miRNAs) may be a potential therapeutic target in the modulation of steroid sensitivity. The present study screened miRNAs in murine injured podocytes by microarray and identified 10 miRNAs significantly upregulated, including miR‑30a, miR‑30d, miR‑100, miR181c, miR‑5099, miR‑3535, miR‑140‑3p, miR‑148‑3p and miR‑103‑3p. Bioinformatic target prediction indicated that the GR was a candidate target gene of miR‑30a. The data also indicated that miR‑30a negatively regulated GRα in normal and injured podocytes induced by puromycin aminonucleoside (PAN). In addition, the inhibition of miR‑30a prevented podocytic apoptosis induced by PAN. However, luciferase reporter assay data suggested an indirect effect on the transcriptional activity of GRα. The present study indicated that silencing of miR‑30a may improve steroid sensitivity in injured podocytes, although the mechanism cannot be explained by conventional means and remains to be elucidated.

We conducted a joint (pooled) analysis of three genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in individuals of Chinese ancestry (5,337 ESCC cases and 5,787 controls) with 9,654 ESCC cases and 10,058 controls for follow-up. In a logistic regression model adjusted for age, sex, study and two eigenvectors, two new loci achieved genome-wide significance, marked by rs7447927 at 5q31.2 (per-allele odds ratio (OR) = 0.85, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.82-0.88; P = 7.72 × 10(-20)) and rs1642764 at 17p13.1 (per-allele OR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.85-0.91; P = 3.10 × 10(-13)). rs7447927 is a synonymous SNP in TMEM173, and rs1642764 is an intronic SNP in ATP1B2, near TP53. Furthermore, a locus in the HLA class II region at 6p21.32 (rs35597309) achieved genome-wide significance in the two populations at highest risk for ESSC (OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.22-1.46; P = 1.99 × 10(-10)). Our joint analysis identifies new ESCC susceptibility loci overall as well as a new locus unique to the population in the Taihang Mountain region at high risk of ESCC.

Novel 60° bent ridge waveguides with several layers of hexagonal-lattice dielectric cylinders around the bend corners are proposed in this paper. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that just one or two layers of cylinders on the hexagonal array are sufficient to assist in turning the guided wave into the 60° bending section. On the other hand, more than three layers of hexagonal-lattice cylinders may result in larger optical reflection such that less power reaches the output port.

Genome-wide association studies have identified susceptibility loci for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We conducted a meta-analysis of all single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that showed nominally significant P-values in two previously published genome-wide scans that included a total of 2961 ESCC cases and 3400 controls. The meta-analysis revealed five SNPs at 2q33 with P5 × 10(-8), and the strongest signal was rs13016963, with a combined odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of 1.29 (1.19-1.40) and P= 7.63 × 10(-10). An imputation analysis of 4304 SNPs at 2q33 suggested a single association signal, and the strongest imputed SNP associations were similar to those from the genotyped SNPs. We conducted an ancestral recombination graph analysis with 53 SNPs to identify one or more haplotypes that harbor the variants directly responsible for the detected association signal. This showed that the five SNPs exist in a single haplotype along with 45 imputed SNPs in strong linkage disequilibrium, and the strongest candidate was rs10201587, one of the genotyped SNPs. Our meta-analysis found genome-wide significant SNPs at 2q33 that map to the CASP8/ALS2CR12/TRAK2 gene region. Variants in CASP8 have been extensively studied across a spectrum of cancers with mixed results. The locus we identified appears to be distinct from the widely studied rs3834129 and rs1045485 SNPs in CASP8. Future studies of esophageal and other cancers should focus on comprehensive sequencing of this 2q33 locus and functional analysis of rs13016963 and rs10201587 and other strongly correlated variants.

Ether a go-go 1 (Eag1) is frequently highly expressed in various malignant cancers and its excessive expression is correlated with poor prognosis in various cancers. However, the relationship of Eag1 expression with the clinical outcome of patients having ovarian cancer treated with cisplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy is still unknown. In this study, we measured the expression of Eag1 in ovarian cancer and investigated the association between cisplatin chemosensitivity of ovarian cancer cells and Eag1 expression level. We demonstrate that decreased expression of Eag1 correlates with favorable prognosis in patients treated with cisplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy and predicts higher cisplatin sensitivity in ovarian cancer cells. In vitro, knockdown of Eag1 by small interfering RNA facilitated the sensitivity of ovarian cancer cells (SKOV3 and TYK) to cisplatin-induced apoptosis via nuclear factor κ-light chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathway. Furthermore, knockdown of Eag1 expression was associated with decreased expression of the P-glycoprotein without affecting multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 expression. Taken together, Eag1 may serve as a potential indicator to predict Eag1 chemosensitivity, and silencing Eag1 may represent a potential therapeutic strategy for ovarian cancer.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is one of the most common primary glomerulonephritis. Previously identified genome-wide association study (GWAS) loci explain only a fraction of disease risk. To identify novel susceptibility loci in Han Chinese, we conduct a four-stage GWAS comprising 8,313 cases and 19,680 controls. Here, we show novel associations at ST6GAL1 on 3q27.3 (rs7634389, odds ratio (OR)=1.13, P=7.27 × 10−10), ACCS on 11p11.2 (rs2074038, OR=1.14, P=3.93 × 10−9) and ODF1-KLF10 on 8q22.3 (rs2033562, OR=1.13, P=1.41 × 10−9), validate a recently reported association at ITGAX-ITGAM on 16p11.2 (rs7190997, OR=1.22, P=2.26 × 10−19), and identify three independent signals within the DEFA locus (rs2738058, P=1.15 × 10−19; rs12716641, P=9.53 × 10−9; rs9314614, P=4.25 × 10−9, multivariate association). The risk variants on 3q27.3 and 11p11.2 show strong association with mRNA expression levels in blood cells while allele frequencies of the risk variants within ST6GAL1, ACCS and DEFA correlate with geographical variation in IgAN prevalence. Our findings expand our understanding on IgAN genetic susceptibility and provide novel biological insights into molecular mechanisms underlying IgAN., IgA nephropathy is a major cause of end-stage renal disease in China, occurring at a high frequency in Asian populations. Here Li and colleagues conduct a four-stage genome-wide association study in a Chinese population, identifying novel loci and variants associated with disease risk.

This paper presents an effective method based on the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to extract driver's breathing signal from an accelerometer installed on the safety belt. The method has been verified to have consistent results with commercial belt under various driving conditions, where the acceleration from car driving or road bumps has much higher signal power than the desired breathing signal from chest movement (i.e. negative signal to noise ratio).

A multi-center large scale study is needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of domestic peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions. Some researchers believe that 6 L/d is enough for adequate dialysis, but there is no multi-center prospective study on Chinese population to confirm this. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of domestic PD solution (Changfu) and its difference between 6 L and 8 L dosage.Adult PD patients who had taken PD therapy for at least one month were selected and divided into four groups according to two dialysis solution brands and two dialysis dosages, i.e., 6 L dose with Changfu dialysis solution, 6 L dose with Baxter dialysis solution, 8 L dose with Changfu dialysis solution, and 8 L dose with Baxter dialysis solution. After 48 weeks, the changes of primary and secondary efficacy indices were compared between different types and different dosages. We also analyzed the changes of safety indices.Changes of Kt/V from baseline to 48 weeks between Changfu and Baxter showed no statistical differences; so did those of creatinine clearance rate (Ccr). Normalized protein catabolic rate (nPCR) from baseline to 48 weeks between Changfu and Baxter showed no statistical differences; so did those of net ultrafiltration volume (nUF) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Changes of nPCR from baseline to 48 weeks between 6 L and 8 L showed no statistical differences; so did those of nUF and eGFR. The decline of Kt/V from baseline to 48 weeks in 6 L group was more than that in 8 L group. Change of Ccr was similar. During the 48-week period, the mean Kt/V was above 1.7/w, and mean Ccr was above 50 L×1.73 m(-2)×w(-1). More adverse events were found in Changfu group before Changfu Corporation commenced technology optimization, and the statistical differences disappeared after that.The domestic PD solution (Changfu) was proven to be as effective as Baxter dialysis solution. During 48-week period, a dosage of 6 L/d was enough for these patients to reach adequate PD. Clinical study promotes technological optimization, further helps to improve the safety indices of the medical products.

Data on the epidemiology of hypertension in Chinese non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are limited. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in the non-dialysis CKD patients through a nationwide, multicenter study in China.The survey was performed in 61 tertiary hospitals in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China (except Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). Trained physicians collected demographic and clinical data and measured blood pressure (BP) using a standardized protocol. Hypertension was defined as systolic BP ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic BP ≥ 90 mmHg, and/or use of antihypertensive medications. BP140/90 mmHg and130/80 mmHg were used as the 2 thresholds of hypertension control. In multivariate logistic regression with adjustment for sex and age, we analyzed the association between CKD stages and uncontrolled hypertension in non-dialysis CKD patients.The analysis included 8927 non-dialysis CKD patients. The prevalence, awareness, and treatment of hypertension in non-dialysis CKD patients were 67.3%, 85.8%, and 81.0%, respectively. Of hypertensive CKD patients, 33.1% and 14.1% had controlled BP to140/90 mmHg and130/80 mmHg, respectively. With successive CKD stages, the prevalence of hypertension in non-dialysis CKD patients increased, but the control of hypertension decreased (P0.001). When the threshold of BP130/80 mmHg was considered, the risk of uncontrolled hypertension in CKD 2, 3a, 3b, 4, and 5 stages increased 1.3, 1.4, 1.4, 2.5, and 4.0 times compared with CKD 1 stage, respectively (P0.05). Using the threshold of140/90 mmHg, the risk of uncontrolled hypertension increased in advanced stages (P0.05).The prevalence of hypertension Chinese non-dialysis CKD patients was high, and the hypertension control was suboptimal. With successive CKD stages, the risk of uncontrolled hypertension increased.

In the present paper, AlF3-YbF3 : Er3+ was prepared by high temperature solid phase reaction, and the concentration effect of Er3+ on luminous intensity of phosphors was studied. The crystal structures of the phosphors were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the upconversion luminescence properties of phosphor were studied by fluorescence emission spectra. Upon 980 nm excitation, when the Er3+ concentration was fixed to be 0.7 mol%, the maximum red emission intensities can be obtained in the sample. Furthermore, the research results showed that the fitted slope for red transition emission was 2.24, indicating that red emission is due to a two-photon excitation process.

The etiological role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervical cancer has been well established. However, it is inconclusive whether HPV plays the same role in esophageal carcinogenesis. In this study, we detected HPV infection in 145 frozen esophageal tissues, including 30 normal epithelium (ENOR), 37 dysplasia (DYS) and 78 invasive squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and in 143 frozen cervical tissues composed of 30 normal epithelium (CNOR), 38 intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and 75 invasive squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC). The patients and symptom-free subjects enrolled in this study were from a high-incidence area for both ESCC and CSCC, Linzhou City, Northern China, from 2007 to 2009. The HPV infection analysis was conducted by using an HPV GenoArray Test Kit. We found that the high-risk HPV types accounted for more than 90 % of the HPV-positive lesions of esophagus and cervix tissues. The prevalence of high-risk HPV types increased significantly during the progression of both esophageal and cervical carcinogenesis (positive rate in esophageal tissues: 33 % ENOR, 70 % in DYS and 69 % in ESCC; positive rate in cervical tissues: 27 % in CNOR, 82 % in CIN and 88 % in CSCC; P < 0.001, respectively). Infection with the high-risk HPV types increased the risk for both DYS and ESCC by 4-fold (DYS vs. ENOR: OR = 4.73, 95 %CI = 1.68-13.32; ESCC vs. ENOR: OR = 4.50, 95 %CI = 1.83-11.05) and increased the risk for both CIN and CSCC by 12-fold and 20-fold (CIN vs. CNOR: OR = 12.18, 95 %CI = 3.85-38.55; CSCC vs. CNOR: OR = 20.17, 95 %CI = 6.93-58.65), respectively. The prevalence of high-risk types in ESCC patients was lower than that in CSCC patients (P = 0.005) and was significantly associated with the degree of ESCC tumor infiltration (P = 0.001). HPV 16 was the most prevalent subtype in both esophageal and cervical tissues. Single HPV infection increased significantly along with the progression of ESCC and maintained a high level in cervical tissues, regardless of whether they were CNOR or CSCC tissues. Our results showed that infection with HPV, especially the high-risk types, was positively associated with both esophageal and cervical cancers, suggesting that HPV also plays a role in the etiology of ESCC in the high-incidence area.

Age-related changes in kidney structure and function have been well documented. This study aimed to assess the relationship between declines of normal ageing-related kidney function and cardiac diastolic function in a healthy Chinese population.A total of 852 healthy adults aged 30-98 years were enrolled and divided into four groups according to quartiles of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and cystatin C (CYSC). Cardiac diastolic function was measured by ratio of peak velocity of early filling to peak velocity of atrial filling (E/A), which was derived by B-mode echocardiography. Lower E/A was defined as measures under the 25th percentile of sample distribution (0·784).Age was significantly associated with eGFR (r = -0·102, P0·01), CYSC (r = 0·544, P0·01) and E/A (r = -0·381, P0·01). Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that second, third and fourth quartile groups of CYSC and fourth quartile of eGFR were significantly associated with lower E/A in an unadjusted model. However, these associations were lost after full adjustment.Our results confirm that ageing is a major factor contributing to declines in both kidney and cardiac diastolic function in a healthy population. Adjustment for covariates, however, showed that normal ageing-related declines in kidney function and cardiac diastolic function are not independently linked.

To investigate the anticoagulant methods and characters of hemodialysis patients in hospitals of Grade III Level A.A questionnaire survey was conducted in 7 hemodialysis centers of class 3 first level general hospital in Beijing, Shenyang, Harbin, and Dalian, on the hemodialysis status, primary diseases, anticoagulation methods, and complications.808 of the 842 patients (95.9%) underwent hemodialysis, and 34 patients (4.1%) were subjected to hemodialysis filtration. 606 hemodialysis patients (74.9%) used heparin as the anticoagulant, and the doses and using method were different among different centers. 223 patients (26.5%) used low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) with different kinds, doses and using methods. The underlying diseases included diabetes (15.1%), hypertension (9.4%), and other diseases (75.5%). There was no significant difference in the dosage of heparin among different diseases, while the dosage of LMWH was lower for the diabetes and hypertension patients. 171 patients (20.3%) had hemorrhagic tendency, and 67 patients (20.3%) suffered from thrombus. The dosage of heparin was lower in the patients with hemorrhagic tendency while no difference was found in the dosages of LMWH among the patients with different diseases. Antiplatelet agents were co-administrated in 172 hemodialysis patients (20.4%). The percentages of co-administration of antiplatelet for patients with thrombus and hemorrhagic tendency were 14% and 12.8% respectively. The dosages of heparin and LMWH were higher in the patients with co-administration than those without co-administration. Coagulation marker examination was conducted in only 385 patients (45.7%), and no difference in the frequency of coagulation marker examination was found among the patients with hemorrhagic tendency, thrombus, and other diseases.Heparin is the main anticoagulant in hemodialysis. The anticoagulant methodology in hemodialysis is still empirical without clotting monitor and standard for usage of anticoagulants.

Background: Although there have been cross-sectional and longitudinal studies examining biological age (BA) with chronological age (CA)-related changes in physical, physiological, biochemical, and hormonal variables, few studies have performed echocardiographic evaluation of the cardiovascular system and inflammatory biomarkers. Furthermore, little is known about biomarkers of aging and BA score (BAS) for healthy people in China. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the biomarkers of healthy aging and to establish BAS for healthy people in China. Methods: We examined 2,876 men and women aged 30–98 years old in three Chinese cities, and 852 healthy subjects were assessed with 108 physical, morphological, physiological and biochemical variables. After excluding binary variables, variables that had a correlation coefficient with CA of ≤0.25 and redundant variables, eight variables including CA, arterial pulse pressure (PP), intima-media thickness (IMT), end diastolic velocity (EDV), ratio of peak velocity of early filling to atrial filling (E/A), mitral valve annulus lateral wall of peak velocity of early filling (MVEL), cystatin C (CYSC), and fibrinogen (FIB) were selected as candidate biomarkers of aging based on a factor-weighted BAS composite for predicting BA. Results: The BAS equation was 0.248 (CA) + 0.195 (IMT) – 0.196 (EDV) – 0.167 (E/A) – 0.166 (MVEL) + 0.188 (PP) + 0.182 (FIB) + 0.193 (CYSC). Individual BAS were significantly correlated with CA (r = 0.893, p < 0.001). Biological aging rate predicted by BAS was accelerated with increases in CA, and peaked when healthy men and women reached ≧75 years of age. Conclusions: Our data suggest that BAS is superior to CA in assessing the rate of aging in healthy Chinese people. The cardiovascular variables play a crucial role in the evaluation of biological aging. Biological aging rate appears to be age specific.

To quantitatively assess the progress of cardiovascular aging in the healthy people in North China by non-invasive ways, and to analyze the law of cardiovascular aging.855 healthy people randomly sampled from 3 cities in northern China: Shenyang, Dalian, and Beijing, divided into 4 age groups:or = 44, 45 - 59, 60 - 74, andor = 75, underwent interview of the life style and dietary structure, measurement of blood pressure, heart and carotid ultrasonography, blood biochemistry, blood routine, urine routine, and detection of micro-inflammation indexes such as C-reactive protein, fibrinogen (FIB), thrombomodulin, and interleukin-6. Totally 70 items were surveyed. Then the cardiovascular aging assessment equation was constructed and cardiovascular biological aging score (CBAS) was calculated to analyze the law of cardiovascular aging.Seven items including pulse pressure, carotid artery intimal-medial thickness, carotid artery end-diastolic velocity, mitral valve anulus anterior wall A, mitral valve anulus lateral wall E, FIB, total cholesterol were correlated with chronological age significantly (r = 0.63, 0.54, -0.41, 0.45, -0.42, 0.43, and 0.46, all P0.01). The CBAS was positively correlated with chronological age (r = 0.85, P0.05) with the most rapid change rate in the group aged 45 - 59.CAS can be used as an objective index to quantitatively assess the cardiovascular aging. With an acceleration of cardiovascular aging rate after the age 45, the speed of cardiovascular aging in healthy people may be inconstant. The age 45 - 59 may be the key threshold for cardiovascular aging.
