Dermatopathology training is a crucial aspect of the education and training of residents in dermatology and venereology, while interpretation of pathological sections is essential for this training. We employ the general pattern teaching method to enhance teaching quality, focusing on initial observation of sections with the naked eye and low-power lens to deduce biopsy sites and diagnose diseases based on image outline and color contrast. Diseases which can be diagnosed by general pattern analysis can be categorized into six groups: changes in the epidermis, mass-like hyperplasia and band-like changes in the dermis, changes in the fat layer, unique shape, and vascular proliferation. Some of these major categories can be further divided into subgroups. There are a total 18 common pathological patterns, including 53 prevalent skin diseases, 26 of which are required to be mastered according to the training guideline. The general pattern teaching method in combination with informative content and an engaging approach can effectively stimulate residents' enthusiasm for learning skin pathology and enhance their educational experience, leading to the improvement of outcome of dermatopathology training programs for residents in dermatology and venereology.

The corrosion and perforation failure of the flash evaporation heat exchanger tube bundle in a certain treatment station occurred frequently. Therefore, a composition test was conducted on the external media and corrosion products on the surface of the tube bundle. Results showed that the condensate oil medium in the shell side contained a small amount of water, and there were the high concentrations of Cl-, Ca2+ and HCO3- in the water quality components. A black scale layer was formed on the surface of the tube bundle, with patches of corrosion pits under the scale, indicating severe local corrosion. Based on the analysis of the morphology, elements and compounds of the corrosion products, it was found that the corrosion products were mainly composed of FeCO3, and a chlorine-rich layer was formed on the surface of the tube bundle. Therefore, a corrosion mechanism of synergistic HCO3- and Cl- under scale was established. Finally, an integrity management process for flash evaporation heat exchangers with failure control as the core was established, and targeted risk assessment methods and failure control measures were formed to provide assurance for the safe production of the treatment station.

Cancer remains a major cause of death globally. Esophageal cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies and has limited treatment options, thus resulting in high morbidity and mortality. We reported the case of a 65-year-old patient who came to the hospital for abdominal distension and loss of appetite. The patient’s endoscopy before admission indicated the possibility of esophageal cancer. After admission, an enhanced c omputed t omography (CT) scan of the chest and abdomen revealed esophageal stenosis and a liver tumor. The patient’s final diagnosis was esophageal cancer concurrent with liver cancer, and a series of treatments were administered. However, esophageal cancer with liver cancer is rare. The patient was treated with targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization simultaneously. Then, regular follow-up was performed at 1 month, and at 3 months, the patient was discharged after immunotherapy. We hope that through this case, we can improve the clinical understanding of these two types of tumors and thereby contribute to their treatment. Research and collaboration among health-care professionals are essential for improving tumor diagnosis and treatment.

Despite existing evidence linking dyskinesia to levodopa, the primary treatment for Parkinson's, the dose–response relationship and risk factors remain uncertain. In this study, the risk for dyskinesia in patients with Parkinson's disease receiving levodopa was evaluated via meta-analysis and meta-regression approaches to examine dyskinesia risk factors more reliably and improve treatment strategies and patient care. The PubMed and Embase databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials comparing levodopa with other anti-Parkinson's drugs published in English before June 31, 2023. The primary outcome was dyskinesia, and a risk of bias assessment was performed. In total, 24 studies met the inclusion criteria; 21 had a low risk of bias, and 3 had a high risk of bias. These studies included 4698 patients with Hoehn and Yahr Grade I–III Parkinson's disease. Our meta-analysis showed that the risk of dyskinesia was higher for levodopa than for other anti-Parkinson's drugs (odds ratio: 2.52 [95% confidence interval: 1.84–3.46]). Dyskinesia was not related to age (slope coefficient: 0.185 [0.095]; P = 0.061), disease duration (slope coefficient: 0.011 [0.018]; P = 0.566), or treatment duration (slope coefficient: 0.008 [0.007]; P = 0.216). The mean levodopa equivalent dose (slope coefficient: 0.004 [0.001]; P = 0.001) in the experimental group and the differences in drug doses between the experimental and control groups were correlated with the risk of dyskinesia. Results of randomized controlled trials supported an association between the levodopa dose and dyskinesia in patients with Parkinson's disease. Compared with levodopa users, users of other anti-Parkinson's drugs had a lower incidence of dyskinesia. Age, disease duration, and treatment duration were not correlated with dyskinesia. These findings suggest that anti-Parkinson's drugs other than levodopa, particularly in cases of early-stage Parkinson's disease, should be considered to reduce the risk of dyskinesia.

Selecting optimal locations for customized bus stops is crucial for enhancing the adoption rate of customized bus services, reducing operational costs, and, consequently, mitigating traffic congestion. This study leverages ride-hailing data to analyze the distance between passengers and bus stops, as well as the operational costs associated with establishing these stops, to construct a customized bus stop location model. To address the limited local search capability of conventional immune algorithms, we propose a Dual Population Adaptive Immunity Algorithm (DPAIA) to solve the bus stop location problem. Finally, we conduct simulation experiments using passenger travel data from a ride-hailing company in Chengdu to evaluate the proposed customized bus stop location model. Through simulations with Chengdu ride-hailing data, the DPAIA algorithm minimized the weighted cost to CNY 28.95 ten thousand, outperforming all counterparts. Although proposing 9–11 more stops than competitors, this increase slightly impacts costs while markedly reducing passenger walking distances. Optimizing station placement to meet demand and road networks, our model endorses 50 strategic bus stops, enhancing service accessibility and potentially easing urban congestion while boosting operator profits.

In the past, comprehensive information was imperative for image processing, prompting a preference for high-depth cameras. However, in our research, we discovered that the abundance of image details may impede phase retrieval. Consequently, this paper presents an iterative phase retrieval method based on a low bit depth. Through simulations and experiments, this approach has proven effective in evidently enhancing phase retrieval outcomes. Furthermore, the concept of low bit depth holds promise for broader application across diverse domains within the field of image retrieval.

The application of smart construction technologies is becoming a crucial approach to improving safety performance in the construction industry. Existing research often focuses on the qualitative analysis of specific technologies, neglecting a comprehensive empirical examination of the characteristics of smart construction technologies and their impact on project safety performance. This study identifies five principal characteristics of smart construction technology: integration, automation, initiative, shareability, and sustainability. By integrating the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the task–technology fit (TTF) model, we propose a theoretical path of “technology characteristics–perceived behavior–behavioral intention–safety performance” and develop a structural equation model to assess the effect of these characteristics on safety performance. The results indicate that these characteristics have a significant direct impact on safety performance, with the estimated direct effect reaching as high as 0.61. Additionally, these characteristics positively influence safety performance indirectly through mediating variables such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, usage intention, and usage behavior. This study empirically verifies the pathways through which smart construction technology characteristics affect safety performance, providing theoretical support for the widespread application of these technologies in construction engineering and enhancing safety management.

In order to optimize the operating path of orchard mowers and improve their efficiency, we propose an MI-DBO (multi-strategy improved dung beetle optimization algorithm) to solve the problem of full-coverage path planning for mowers in standardized quadrilateral orchard environments. First, we analyzed the operation scenario of lawn mowers in standardized orchards, transformed the full-coverage path planning problem into a TSP (traveling salesman problem), and mathematically modeled the U-turn and T-turn strategies based on the characteristics of lawn mowers in orchards. Furthermore, in order to overcome the issue of uneven distribution of individual positions in the DBO (dung beetle optimization) algorithm and the tendency to fall into local optimal solutions, we incorporated Bernoulli mapping and the convex lens reverse-learning strategy in the initialization stage of DBO to ensure a uniform distribution of the initial population. During the algorithm iteration stage, we incorporated the Levy flight strategy into the position update formulas of breeding beetles, foraging beetles, and stealing beetles in the DBO algorithm, allowing them to escape from local optimal solutions. Simulation experiments show that for 18 types of orchards with different parameters, MI-DBO can find the mowing machine’s operation paths. Compared with other common swarm intelligence algorithms, MI-DBO has the shortest average path length of 456.36 m and can ensure faster optimization efficiency. Field experiments indicate that the algorithm-optimized paths do not effectively reduce the mowing machine’s missed mowing rate, but the overall missed mowing rate is controlled below 0.8%, allowing for the completion of mowing operations effectively. Compared with other algorithms, MI-DBO has the least time and fuel consumption for operations. Compared to the row-by-row operation method, using paths generated by MI-DBO reduces the operation time by an average of 1193.67 s and the fuel consumption rate by an average of 9.99%. Compared to paths generated by DBO, the operation time is reduced by an average of 314.33 s and the fuel consumption rate by an average of 2.79%.

Nail psoriasis is a clinical manifestation of psoriasis involving the nails, with prevalence of 80%~90%. Changes in nail appearance and pain can negatively impact the quality of patients′ lives. The treatment regimens for nail psoriasis include local treatment, systemic treatment and physical therapy. Traditional therapy requires long-term treatment with uncertain outcomes. In recent years, the efficacy and the course of treatment have been improved by new regimens such as biologics and small molecule drugs. This article will review the treatment of nail psoriasis in order to facilitate the selection of most appropriate approach for the treatment of nail psoriasis.

Abstract Background Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is currently the most effective way to treat people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHs) and reduce HIV transmission. While there are many factors that reduce adherence to ART, PLHs’ knowledge about ART may determine the level of adherence. It is necessary to design and assess an instrument scale that measures the knowledge of antiretroviral therapy among PLHs. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted among PLHs in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, China. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the latent factors of antiretroviral therapy knowledge scale. Internal consistency was assessed separately for the scale and its dimensions by estimating Cronbach’s alphas, split-half reliability and Spearman’s correlation coefficient. ANOVAs were used to compare the scores of different dimensions with sociodemographic characteristics. Results Four factors were extracted according to factor loadings. They had high internal consistency reliability (Cronbach’s alpha: 0.70–0.95) and good construct validity (standardized factor loading range: 0.46–0.86) in the scale. Goodness of fit indices indicated that a four-factor solution fit the data at an accepted level (χ2/degree ratio = 1.980, RMSEA = 0.069, GFI = 0.909, CFI = 0.957, NFI = 0.917, TLI = 0.944). ANOVAs indicated that the score was higher among PLHs who were Han, had spouses/partners, were non-famers or migrant workers, initiated ART, and had a high school or above education. Conclusion The psychometric assessment indicated that this ART knowledge scale had accepted internal consistency and discriminant construct validity. It can be used to assess the knowledge of antiretroviral therapy for PLHs.

The environmental temperature and humidity are crucial factors for the normal growth and development of arbor tree cuttings by altering their hormone levels and influencing their physiological activities. Developing a temperature and humidity environmental model for arbor tree cuttings serves as a key technique to improve the adjustment performance of environmental parameters in facility agriculture systems and enhance the rooting rate of cuttings. This paper provides a comprehensive summary of current research on the inherent characteristics of cuttings and the factors influencing environmental temperature and humidity. It explores the mechanisms of interaction between the inherent characteristics of cuttings and the factors influencing environmental temperature and humidity. This paper investigates the interactive relationships among the factors affecting environmental temperature and humidity. It analyzes methods to improve the efficiency of constructing temperature and humidity environmental models for arbor tree cuttings. To enhance the transferability of the environmental model, the necessary physiological activities under the influence of plant hormones are generalized as common physiological traits in the growth and development of cuttings. In addition, this paper explores the factors influencing the air and substrate temperature and the humidity in facility agriculture systems as well as two types of facilities for controlling environmental temperature and humidity. Furthermore, it reviews the research progress in environmental models from both mechanistic and data-driven perspectives. This paper provides a comparative analysis of the characteristics associated with these two model categories. Building upon this, the paper summarizes and discusses methods employed in constructing temperature and humidity environmental models for arbor tree cuttings. In addition, it also anticipates the application of deep learning techniques in the construction of temperature and humidity environmental models for arbor cuttings, including utilizing machine vision technology to monitor their growth status. Finally, it proposes suggestions for building physiological models of fruit tree-like arbor cuttings at different growth stages. To enhance the transferability of environmental models, the integration of physiological models of cuttings, environmental models, and control system performance are suggested to create an environmental identification model. This paper aims to achieve control of the common physiological activities of cuttings.

BackgroundPrevious experimental studies have shown that mice overexpressing amyloid precursor protein, in which β-amyloid (Aβ) is overproduced, exhibit peripheral insulin resistance, pancreatic impairment, and hyperglycemia. We aimed to explore the effects of Aβ on insulin action and insulin secretion in vitro and the association of plasma Aβ with prediabetes in human.MethodsWe examined the effects of Aβ40 and Aβ42 on insulin-inhibited glucose production in HepG2 cells, insulin-promoted glucose uptake in C2C12 myotubes, and insulin secretion in INS-1 cells. Furthermore, we conducted a case-control study (N = 1142) and a nested case-control study (N = 300) within the prospective Tongji-Ezhou cohort. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for prediabetes were estimated by using conditional logistic regression analyses.ResultsIn the in vitro studies, Aβ40 and Aβ42 dose-dependently attenuated insulin-inhibited glucose production in HepG2 cells, insulin-promoted glucose uptake in C2C12 myotubes, and basal and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in INS-1 cells. In the case-control study, plasma Aβ40 (adjusted OR: 2.00; 95% CI: 1.34, 3.01) and Aβ42 (adjusted OR: 1.94; 95% CI: 1.33, 2.83) were positively associated with prediabetes risk when comparing the extreme quartiles. In the nested case-control study, compared to the lowest quartile, the highest quartile of plasma Aβ40 and Aβ42 were associated with 3.51-fold (95% CI: 1.61, 7.62) and 2.75-fold (95% CI: 1.21, 6.22) greater odds of prediabetes, respectively.ConclusionElevated plasma Aβ40 and Aβ42 levels were associated with increased risk of prediabetes in human subjects, which may be through impairing insulin sensitivity in hepatocytes and myotubes and insulin secretion in pancreatic β-cells.

This study aimed to achieve the rapid evaluation of moisture, ash and protein of sweet potato simultaneously by near-infrared (NIR) hyperspectral imaging (900–1700 nm). Hyperspectral images of 300 samples for each parameter were acquired and the spectra within images were extracted, averaged and preprocessed to relate to the three measured parameters, using partial least squares (PLS) algorithm, respectively, resulting in good performances. Nine, eleven and eleven informative wavelengths were selected to accelerate the prediction of the three parameters, generating a correlation coefficient of prediction (rP) of 0.984, 0.905, 0.935 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 0.907%, 0.138%, 0.0941% for moisture, ash and protein, respectively. By transferring the best optimized PLS models to generate color chemical maps, the distributions and variations of the three parameters were visualized. NIR hyperspectral imaging is promising and can be applied to simultaneously evaluate multiple quality parameters of sweet potato.

In this study, the feasibility of TIG welding of as-cast Mg–8Li–3Al–2Zn-0.5Y alloys was investigated, and the quality of welded joints using different welding currents was evaluated in terms of microstructural evolution and mechanical properties. The results showed that the welding position of plates was successfully welded with good formability and no obvious welding defects at the investigated processing parameters. Significant refinement of phase size was beneficial to improve the mechanical properties of the welded joints. Under the influence of heat input, the AlLi phase in the heat-affected zone dissolved into the matrix, which improved the mechanical properties of the welded joint. The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the welded joint at 100 A were 224.8 MPa, 177.4 MPa and 9.9%, respectively, which is 159.5%, 159% and 43.8% of the corresponding values of the base alloy in the as-cast state. The burning loss of Li element in the welded joint was effectively controlled, which confirmed the feasibility of this welding process for welding Mg–Li alloys.

Linear IgA/IgG bullous dermatosis (LAGBD) is a rare autoimmune subepidermal bullous disorder characterized by linear deposition of concurrent IgA and IgG autoantibodies along the basement membrane zone (BMZ). The clinical features of LAGBD can be diverse, including tense blisters, erosions, erythema, crusting and mucosa involvement, while papules or nodules are generally absent. In this study, we present a unique case of LAGBD, which showed prurigo nodularis-like clinical appearance on physical examination, linear deposition of IgG and C3 along the basement membrane zone (BMZ) in direct immunofluorescence (DIF), IgA autoantibodies against the 97-kDa and 120-kDa of BP180 and IgG autoantibodies against the 97-kDa of BP180 by immunoblotting (IB), while BP180 NC16a domain, BP230, and laminin 332 were negative by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). After administration of minocycline, the skin lesions improved. We performed a literature review of LAGBD cases with heterogeneous autoantibodies and found clinical presentations of most cases resemble bullous pemphigoid (BP) and linear IgA bullous disease (LABD), which is consistent with previous reported findings. We aim to increase our understanding of this disorder and to enhance the importance of applying immunoblot analyses and other serological detection tools in clinic for precise diagnosis as well as accurate treatment strategy of various autoimmune bullous dermatoses.

In orchard plant protection application, an anti-drift strategy can effectively reduce drift in the non-target area, reduce spray drift in the environment, and avoid spray leakage and overspraying. To clarify the future development direction of orchard plant protection mechanization technology, this review introduces the development status of an anti-drift spray nozzle and the impact of different types of spray nozzles on the potential of drift, and then, it analyzes the research progress on air-assisted spraying, recycling spraying, profiling spraying, target variable spraying technologies, and plant protection UAVs. It also provides a general analysis of the above spraying technologies on the amount of drift and the impact of pesticide deposition. Finally, combined with the characteristics of orchard plant protection, the paper presents the research and development of anti-drift nozzles, pesticide adjuvant, air-assisted spraying technology, electrostatic, recycling spraying technology, profiling and target variable spraying technology, and plant protection UAVs. The review provides a reference for the development of an anti-drift strategy for orchard plant protection production.

Previous studies have shown that orthogonal phase-coding multiplexing performs well with low crosstalk in conventional off-axis systems. However, noticeable crosstalk occurs when applying the orthogonal phase-coding multiplexing to collinear holographic data storage systems. This paper demonstrates the crosstalk generation mechanism, features, and elimination methods. The crosstalk is caused by an inconsistency in the intensity reconstruction from the orthogonal phase-coded reference wave. The intensity fluctuation range was approximately 40%. Moreover, the more concentrated the distribution of pixels with the same phase key, the more pronounced the crosstalk. We propose an effective random orthogonal phase-coding reference wave method to reduce the crosstalk. The orthogonal phase-coded reference wave is randomly distributed over the entire reference wave. These disordered orthogonal phase-coded reference waves achieve consistent reconstruction intensities exhibiting the desired low-crosstalk storage effect. The average correlation coefficient between pages decreased by 73%, and the similarity decreased by 85%. This orthogonal phase-coding multiplexing method can be applied to encrypted holographic data storage. The low-crosstalk nature of this technique will make the encryption system more secure.

In order to study the mechanism of crack propagation in rock cutting, experiments and discrete element numerical simulation of rock cutting at different depths were adopted in this paper. The rock fragmentation can be divided into mini-size fragmentation and normal-size fragmentation from a size viewpoint. The discrete element method (DEM) is used to further investigate the mechanism of normal size fragmentation at different depths and record the process of crack initiation and propagation. Additionally, the paper characterizes the process of crack initiation and examines the representative rock fragmentation. According to the mechanism of crack development, rock fragmentation can be divided into three categories: conventional failure, fracture failure, and damage failure. The fragmentation of three kinds of failure has one common point. To form semi-dislodged rock fragmentation, the macroscopic shear cracks are first formed. Subsequently, the tensile failure at weak places causes fragmentation ejection. Therefore, the mechanism of fragmentation generation in rock cutting is investigated in terms of crack initiation and extension. In this study, the fracture phenomenon of previous rock cutting experiments is reproduced by an experiment, and the failure process is analyzed in detail by the discrete element method, which reveals the essence of producing fragment phenomena and summarizes the fracture phenomenon and damage crack propagation mechanism in rock cutting.

In the rapidly advancing domain of vehicular traffic management and autonomous driving, accurate lane change predictions are paramount for ensuring safety and optimizing traffic flow. This study introduces a comprehensive two-stage prediction model that harnesses the capabilities of long short-term memory (LSTM) for anticipating vehicular lane changes. Initially, we employed a variety of models, such as regression methods, SVMs, and a multilayer perceptron, to categorize lane change behaviors. The dataset was then segmented based on vehicle trajectories and lane change patterns. In the subsequent phase, we utilized the superior classification outcomes from LinearSVC to curate our training data. We developed two dedicated LSTM networks tailored to specific datasets: the lane-keeping LSTM (LK-LSTM) and the lane-changing LSTM (LC-LSTM). By integrating insights from both models, we achieved a comprehensive prediction of vehicular lane changes. Our results indicate that the unified prediction model markedly enhances prediction precision. Accurate lane change predictions offer valuable contributions to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), with the potential to minimize traffic mishaps and enhance traffic fluidity. As we transition to a more autonomous automotive era, refining these predictions becomes essential in seamlessly merging human and automated driving experiences.

Abstract Surface defects (SDs) and subsurface defects (SSDs) are the key factors decreasing the laser damage threshold of optics. Due to the spatially stacked structure, accurately detecting and distinguishing them has become a major challenge. Herein a detection method for SDs and SSDs with multisensor image fusion is proposed. The optics is illuminated by a laser under dark field condition, and the defects are excited to generate scattering and fluorescence lights, which are received by two image sensors in a wide-field microscope. With the modified algorithms of image registration and feature-level fusion, different types of defects are identified and extracted from the scattering and fluorescence images. Experiments show that two imaging modes can be realized simultaneously by multisensor image fusion, and HF etching verifies that SDs and SSDs of polished optics can be accurately distinguished. This method provides a more targeted reference for the evaluation and control of the defects of optics, and exhibits potential in the application of material surface research.

Abstract Background It has been reported that hsa_circRNA_100833 (identified as circFADS2) and miR-133a play opposite roles in LPS-induced cell apoptosis, which contributes to the development of sepsis. This study was carried out to explore the interaction between circFADS2 and miR-133a in sepsis. Methods Expression of circFADS2 and miR-133a in plasma from both sepsis patients (n=62) and healthy controls (n=62) was studied by RT-qPCR. Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis was utilized to analyze the correlation between circFADS2 and miR-133a levels across plasma samples from sepsis patients. Cell viability and apoptosis, levels of proteins associated with apoptosis (cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-9), and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in LPS-treated HBEpCs were detected by MTT assay, cell apoptosis assay, western blot, and ELISA, respectively. In addition, a dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed to verify the interaction between circFADS2 and miR-133a. Results CircFADS2 was under-expressed (0.56-fold vs. control) in sepsis, and miR-133a was highly expressed (2.05-fold vs. control) in sepsis. An inverse correlation between circFADS2 and miR-133a was observed across sepsis samples. LPS decreased cell viability, increased cell apoptosis, and elevated productions of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukins (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 in HBEpCs in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, circFADS2 was identified as a target gene of miR-133a. The further experiment revealed that circFADS2 overexpression and miR-133a inhibition prominently promoted cell viability (1.71-fold vs. pcDNA3.1; 1.65-fold vs. NC miRNA) and decreased apoptosis of LPS-treated HBEpCs (0.44-fold vs. pcDNA3.1; 0.47-fold vs. NC miRNA). Moreover, circFADS2 knockdown and miR-133a overexpression inhibited viability (0.36-fold vs. pcDNA3.1; 0.37-fold vs. NC miRNA) and increased apoptosis (1.54-fold vs. pcDNA3.1; 1.51-fold vs. NC miRNA) of LPS-treated HBEpCs. Notably, circFADS2 overexpression reduced the effects of miR-133a on LPS-treated HBEpCs. Conclusions CircFADS2 is under-expressed in sepsis and may protect lung cells from LPS-induced apoptosis by downregulating miR-133a.

Cutaneous vesiculobullous eruptions associated with multiple myeloma (MM) are rare. Although the development of blisters is mostly driven by amyloid deposits of paraproteins in the skin, autoimmunity may play a role. In this study, we report an unusual case of an MM patient with blisters who presented with both flaccid and tense vesicles and bullae. Direct immunofluorescence revealed IgA autoantibody deposits in the basement membrane zone (BMZ) and intercellular space of the epidermis, which displayed an atypical autoantibody deposition pattern. The patient showed rapid disease progression and died during follow-up. We performed a literature review of autoimmune bullous diseases (AIBDs) associated with MM or its precursors and found 17 previously reported cases. Together with the present case, cutaneous involvement of the skin folds was frequently reported, and mucous membranes were barely affected. IgA pemphigus, with consistent IgA monoclonality, was observed in half of the cases. Five patients displayed atypical autoantibody deposition patterns in the skin; the prognosis of these patients appeared to be poorer than that of other patients. We aim to increase our understanding of AIBDs associated with MM or its precursors.
