This is an article in the field of mineral processing engineering. Three samples of 5#, 9# and Mugua coal from Coal Preparation Plant of Lyulin Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd. were collected as the research objects. Screening, proximate analysis and ultimate analysis of the three coal samples were carried out. The mineral composition and surface functional groups of the three coal samples were analyzed by XRD, FT-IR and XPS. Kerosene, on-site reagent and TY6 developed in the laboratory were used for flotation tests. The collecting effect of the three reagents on different types of coal samples was compared. The results showed that 5# coal sample was easy to float, 9# coal sample showed less floatability than 5# coal, while Mugua coal showed the poorest floatability owing to high oxidation and strong hydrophilicity. For the three coal samples, TY6 and the on-site reagents both showed much better collective ability than kerosene and consume less as well. For easy-to-float coal, TY6 showed better selectivity, while for difficult-to-float coal, TY6 showed better collectivity. Smaller particle size dispersed in water, higher viscosity, and containing oxygen-bearing organic substances were the main characteristics of TY6 and the on-site reagents that made them stand out as compared with kerosene, which resulted in better reaction with coal surface, bigger contact angle and better hydrophobicity. In this point of view, TY6 behaved even a little better than the on-site reagents.

Abstract Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) begins with premature activation of enzymes, promoted by the immune system, triggering a potential systemic inflammatory response that leads to organ failure with increased mortality and a bleak prognosis. Interleukin-22 (IL-22) is a cytokine that may have a significant role in SAP. IL-22, a member of the IL-10 cytokine family, has garnered growing interest owing to its potential tissue-protective properties. Recently, emerging research has revealed its specific effects on pancreatic diseases, particularly SAP. This paper provides a review of the latest knowledge on the role of IL-22 and its viability as a therapeutic target in SAP.

Abstract Asian soybean rust (ASR), caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is a devastating disease that is present in all major soybean-producing regions. The limited availability of resistant germplasm has resulted in a scarcity of commercial soybean cultivars that are resistant to the disease. To date, only the Chinese soybean landrace SX6907 has demonstrated an immune response to ASR. In this study, we present the isolation and characterization of Rpp6907-7 and Rpp6907-4, a gene pair that confer broad-spectrum resistance to ASR. Rpp6907-7 and Rpp6907-4 encode atypic nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) proteins that are found to be required for NLR-mediated immunity. Genetic analysis shows that only Rpp6907-7 confers resistance, while Rpp6907-4 regulates Rpp6907-7 signaling activity by acting as a repressor in the absence of recognized effectors. Our work highlights the potential value of using Rpp6907 in developing resistant soybean cultivars.

Abstract Ischaemic bowel disease (ICBD) is a group of intestinal ischaemia syndromes caused by various aetiologies of reduced intestinal blood flow or vascular occlusion. ICBD can present as abdominal pain, bloody stool, and diarrhoea. This disease often occurs in middle-aged and elderly individuals with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The incidence of ischaemic bowel disease has been increasing for decades, and it is difficult to diagnose, resulting in rapid disease progression and a high mortality rate. Therefore, fully understanding this disease, improving the diagnosis rate of this disease, and finding appropriate treatment methods are urgently needed to improve the condition and prognosis of patients. Umbilical cord blood stem cells are accessible, have weak immunogenicity, and have various biological functions, such as angiogenesis, inflammation and immune regulation. Many studies have confirmed that cord blood stem cells can relieve ischaemia, and these cells have attracted tremendous amounts of attention in regenerative medicine in recent years. In this paper, we discuss the clinical characteristics of ICBD, analyse the characteristics of human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (HUCB-MNCs), and use its to treat ischaemic bowel disease. Additionally, we compare the clinical manifestations and related indicators before and after treatment to evaluate the efficacy and safety of these methods.

Abstract Reversible protein phosphorylation, regulated by protein phosphatases, fine-tunes target protein function and plays a vital role in biological processes. Dysregulation of this process leads to aberrant post-translational modifications (PTMs) and contributes to disease development. Despite the widespread use of artificial catalysts as enzyme mimetics, their direct modulation of proteins remains largely unexplored. To address this gap and enable the reversal of aberrant PTMs for disease therapy, we present the development of artificial protein modulators (APROMs). Through atomic-level engineering of heterogeneous catalysts with asymmetric catalytic centers, these modulators bear structural similarities to protein phosphatases and exhibit remarkable ability to destabilize the bridging μ3-hydroxide. This activation of catalytic centers enables spontaneous hydrolysis of phospho-substrates, providing precise control over PTMs. Notably, APROMs, with protein phosphatase-like characteristics, catalytically reprogram the biological function of α-synuclein by directly hydrolyzing hyperphosphorylated α-synuclein. Consequently, synaptic function is reinforced in Parkinson’s disease. Our findings offer a promising avenue for reprogramming protein function through de novo PTMs strategy.

Summary: Host specificity plays important roles in expanding the host range of rhizobia, while the genetic information responsible for host specificity remains largely unexplored. In this report, the roots of four symbiotic systems with notable different symbiotic phenotypes and the control were studied at four different post-inoculation time points by RNA sequencning (RNA-seq). The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were divided into “found only in soybean or Lotus,” “only expressed in soybean or Lotus,” and “expressed in both hosts” according to the comparative genomic analysis. The distributions of enriched function ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways vary significantly in different symbiotic systems. Host specific genes account for the majority of the DEGs involved in response to stimulus, associated with plant-pathogen interaction pathways, and encoding resistance (R) proteins, the symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) proteins and the target proteins in the SNF-related modules. Our findings provided molecular candidates for better understanding the mechanisms of symbiotic host-specificity.

In this article, a mathematical model was developed to describe disease control by media factors. The Lambert W function was used to convert the system definition by implicit functions into explicit functions. We analyzed the dynamics of the defined piecewise smooth system and verified the correctness of the theoretical analysis through numerical simulation. Research revealed that media factors can delay the peak of an epidemic and reduce the scale of the epidemic. It is worth noting that adopting different control measures has a certain impact on the scale of the epidemic; the analysis results indicate that implementing dual-control is the most effective way to limit the spread of diseases and this strategy may provide clues for disease control.

Soybean (Glycine max), the primary source of high-quality plant protein, plays a crucial role as a grain and oil crop in China. Harnessing the full potential of symbiotic nitrogen fixation in soybean production holds immense significance for agriculture and ecology alike. Zhongdou 63, a newly developed early-maturing summer soybean cultivar in 2021, exhibits remarkable traits such as high yield, superior quality, multi-resistance, and wide adaptability. In this study, eight distinct rhizobia strains from diverse regions were meticulously screened to identify highly effective strains specifically suited for Zhongdou 63. The aboveground biomass, plant height, chlorophyll content, root length, nodule number, and nodule dry weight of Zhongdou 63 were measured and the data were subjected to statistical analysis. The results demonstrated that Y63-1 is a predominant strain of Zhongdou 63. Subsequently, we conducted further investigations on the broad-spectrum nodulation characteristics of Y63-1. Ten representative soybean cultivars were individually inoculated with Y63-1 and subsequently analyzed for nodule numbers and nodule dry weight in their symbiotic systems with rhizobia. The findings revealed that Y63-1 effectively formed nodules with all ten soybean varieties tested. In summary, our current study identified highly efficient broad-spectrum Bradyrhizobium elkanii strain Y63-1 as the predominant strain in Zhongdou 63 and provided a theoretical foundation for enhancing yield potential not only in Zhongdou 63 but also in other varieties through inoculation with highly efficient rhizobia in production.

Human cells have a natural cancerous defense system, and p53 protein is at the core. It is well known that p53 relies on oscillatory dynamic behavior to perform tumor suppressor functions. However, the mechanism of its oscillation remains unclear. To reveal the effect of time lag on the onset of p53 oscillations, we analytically and numerically investigate a possible scenario in which p53 oscillations are driven by a time lag. The model has only three nodes, two negative loops, and one delay. We focus on two types of time delays: discrete and distributed, use Hopf bifurcation theory to derive conditions for the occurrence of limit cycle oscillations, and confirm the properties of Hopf bifurcations by normal form and central manifold approaches. The analytical results are supported by numerical results. We suggest that discrete time lag promote p53 oscillations, while distributed time lag have a dual effect on p53 oscillations. These results imply that controlling the time lag in an appropriate range favors the inhibition of p53 on cancer cells.

【Objective】According to the market's demand for taste-type and fresh-eatable cabbage, more varieties of cabbage with good characters and in line with market supply and demand were selected by using its own germplasm resources.【Method】Using 13 Ougra sterile heading cabbage materials selected by the team as female parents and 10 inbred lines heading cabbage materials (GL14000-14009) as male parents, 14 heading cabbage hybrid combinations were prepared through hybridization, the experiments were compared and screened from the aspects of plant width, outer leaf number, longitudinal diameter, transverse diameter, central column length, yield and disease resistance.【Result】After comparison, GL22-02, GL22-06, GL22-11 and GL22-13 were obtained, and their agrtural traits, quality and yield were better than those of the control Tejia No. 2. All the leaf bulbs were round, and the petiole-leaf ratio was 26.9%, 20.8%, 23.1% and 16.8%. It was better than that of control variety (31.3%). Leaf bulb compactness was 0.76, 0.73, 0.59 and 0.62 g/cm3, which was more than 0.16 g/cm3 higher than that of the control variety. The central column length was less than half of the leaf bulb height, 4.9, 4.3, 4.8 and 4.6 cm, respectively. The moisture contents were 93.22%, 94.17%, 93.75% and 93.61%, protein contents were 1.51%, 1.28%, 1.39% and 1.36%, respectively. The soluble sugar content were 5.61%, 5.69%, 5.56% and 5.84%, respectively, which were 0.14-0.37 percentage point higher than that of the control variety. The crude cellulose content were 0.61%, 0.71%, 0.69% and 0.67%, respectively, which were 0.08-0.18 percentage point lower than that of the control variety. The vitamin C contents were 682.3, 687.1, 699.1 and 682.3 mg/kg, respectively, which were 48.4-65.2 mg/kg higher than the control variety. After edible quality identification, four hybrid materials of heading cabbage were selected, the leaf balls were raw (fresh) to eat, crisp texture, sweet taste. The black rot disease resistance of the composite materials was high (HR), the same as that of the control.The yield was 4.80%, 8.46%, 10.97% and 8.46% higher than that of control Tejia No. 2.【Conclusion】The four composite materials GL22-02, GL22-06, GL22-11 and GL22-13 were selected. They both had agronomic and economic characters, which can be used for production demonstration in large scale.

This paper deals with the constrained state regulation problem (CSRP) of descriptor fractional-order linear continuous-time systems (DFOLCS) with order 0<α<1. The objective is to establish the existence of conditions for a linear feedback control law within state constraints and to propose a method for solving the CSRP of DFOLCS. First, based on the decomposition and separation method and coordinate transformation, the DFOLCS can be transformed into an equivalent fractional-order reduced system; hence, the CSRP of the DFOLCS is equivalent to the CSRP of the reduced system. By means of positive invariant sets theory, Lyapunov stability theory, and some mathematical techniques, necessary and sufficient conditions for the polyhedral positive invariant set of the equivalent reduced system are presented. Models and corresponding algorithms for solving the CSRP of a linear feedback controller are also presented by the obtained conditions. Under the condition that the resulting closed system is positive, the given model of the CSRP in this paper for the DFOLCS is formulated as nonlinear programming with a linear objective function and quadratic mixed constraints. Two numerical examples illustrate the proposed method.

This study assessed the physicochemical properties of air-fried hairtail fillets (190 °C, 24 min) under different storage temperatures (4, 25, and 35 °C). The findings revealed a gradual decline in sensory scores across all samples during storage, accompanied by a corresponding decrease in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and total viable count over time. Lower storage temperatures exhibited an effective capacity to delay lipid oxidation and microbiological growth in air-fried hairtail fillets. Subsequently, alterations in the microbiota composition of air-fried hairtail fillets during cold storage were examined. Throughout the storage duration, Achromobacter, Escherichia-Shigella, and Pseudomonas emerged as the three dominant genera in the air-fried hairtail samples. Additionally, Pearson correlation analysis demonstrated that among the most prevalent microbial genera in air-fried hairtail samples, Achromobacter and Psychrobacter exhibited positive correlations with the L* value, a* value, and sensory scores. Conversely, they displayed negative correlations with pH, b* value, and TBARS. Notably, air-fried samples stored at 4 °C exhibited prolonged freshness compared with those stored at 25 °C and 35 °C, suggesting that 4 °C is an optimal storage temperature. This study offers valuable insights into alterations in the physicochemical properties and microbial distribution in air-fried hairtail fillets during storage, facilitating the improvement of meat quality by adjusting microbial communities in air-fried hairtail fillets.

This paper investigates reachable set estimation and state-feedback controller design for linear time-delay control systems with bounded disturbances. By constructing an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, we obtain a delay-dependent condition, which determines the admissible bounding ellipsoid for the reachable set of the system we considered. Then, a sufficient condition in the form of liner matrix inequalities is given to solve the problem of controller design and reachable set estimation. Then, by minimizing the volume of the ellipsoid and solving the liner matrix inequality, we obtain the desired ellipsoid and controller gain. A comparative numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of our result.

Background: Overexpression of the NAD(P)H: Quinone Oxidoreductase 1 (NQOI) gene has been linked with tumor progression, aggressiveness, drug resistance, and poor patient prognosis. Most research has described the biological function of the NQO1 in certain types and limited samples, but a comprehensive understanding of the NQO1’s function and clinical importance at the pan-cancer level is scarce. More research is needed to understand the role of NQO1 in tumor infiltration, and immune checkpoint inhibitors in various cancers are needed.Methods: The NQO1 expression data for 33 types of pan-cancer and their association with the prognosis, pathologic stage, gender, immune cell infiltration, the tumor mutation burden, microsatellite instability, immune checkpoints, enrichment pathways, and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) were downloaded from public databases.Results: Our findings indicate that the NQO1 gene was significantly upregulated in most cancer types. The Cox regression analysis showed that overexpression of the NQO1 gene was related to poor OS in Glioma, uveal melanoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma, and adrenocortical carcinoma. NQO1 mRNA expression positively correlated with infiltrating immune cells and checkpoint molecule levels. The single-cell analysis revealed a potential relationship between the NQO1 mRNA expression levels and the infiltration of immune cells and stromal cells in bladder urothelial carcinoma, invasive breast carcinoma, and colorectal cancer. Conversely, a negative association was noted between various drugs (17-AAG, Lapatinib, Trametinib, PD-0325901) and the NQO1 mRNA expression levels.Conclusion: NQO1 expression was significantly associated with prognosis, immune infiltrates, and drug resistance in multiple cancer types. The inhibition of the NQO1-dependent signaling pathways may provide a promising strategy for developing new cancer-targeted therapies.

Abstract We report the scalable fabrication of CdS/ZnS 1D/2D heterojunctions under ambient air conditions (i.e., room temperature and atmospheric pressure) in which ZnS nanoparticles are anchored on the surface of CdS nanosheets. The as‐formed heterojunctions exhibit a significantly enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 14.02 mmol h−1 g−1 when irradiated with visible light, which is ~10 and 85 times higher than those of pristine CdS nanosheets and CdS nanoparticles, respectively, and superior to most of the CdS‐based photocatalysts reported to date. Furthermore, they provide robust photocatalytic performance with demonstratable stability over 58 h, indicating their potential for practical applications. The formation of 1D/2D heterojunctions not only provides improved exposed active sites that respond to illumination but also provides a rapid pathway to generate photogenerated carriers for efficient separation and transfer through the matrix of single‐crystalline CdS nanosheets. In addition, first‐principles simulations demonstrate that the existence of rich Zn vacancies increases the energy level of the ZnS valence band maximum to construct type‐II and Z‐scheme mixed heterojunctions, which plays a critical role in suppressing the recombination of carriers with limited photocorrosion of CdS to enhance photocatalytic behavior.

Abstract Background The prevalence of comorbid depressive and anxiety disorders in people living with HIV (PLWH) is high. However, it is unclear which symptom is the bridge symptom between depression and anxiety in PLWH. This study aimed to develop symptom networks for depression and anxiety and explore the bridge symptoms and interconnectedness between these disorders in PLWH with comorbid depressive and anxiety disorders. Methods A multisite, hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2020 to November 2021. Depression and anxiety were measured with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. We visualized the symptom network using the qgraph package and computed the bridge expected influence of each node. The GLASSO layout was used to generate undirected association networks. Results A total of 2016 individuals were included in the analysis. In the anxiety cluster, “not feeling relaxed” had the highest bridge expected influence and strength (r bridge expected influence = 0.628, r strength = 0.903). In the depression cluster, “not feeling cheerful” was identified as having a high bridge expected influence (r bridge expected influence = 0.385). “Not feeling cheerful” and “not feeling relaxed” were the strongest edges across the depression and anxiety clusters (r = 0.30 ± 0.02). Conclusions Healthcare professionals should take note when PLWH report severe bridge symptoms. To enhance the levels of perceived cheerfulness and relaxation, positive psychology interventions could be implemented.

Abstract. In recent years, with the increasing incidence of obesity and other metabolic diseases, the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has increased and it has become a major health problem affecting more than one quarter of the world's population. Recently, experts reached a consensus that NAFLD does not reflect the current knowledge, and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) was suggested as a more appropriate term. MAFLD is not just a simple renaming of NAFLD. The definition of MAFLD allows a patient to have dual (or more) etiologies for their liver disease, which will help to exclude more heterogeneous patients. In this review, we introduce the significant differences between the definitions of NAFLD and MAFLD. In addition, we also describe the advantages of the term MAFLD in the pathophysiology, therapy, and patient management.

In this paper, we investigate the iterative methods for the solution of different types of nonlinear matrix equations. More specifically, we consider iterative methods for the minimal nonnegative solution of a set of Riccati equations, a nonnegative solution of a quadratic matrix equation, and the maximal positive definite solution of the equation X+A∗X−1A=Q. We study the recent iterative methods for computing the solution to the above specific type of equations and propose more effective modifications of these iterative methods. In addition, we make comments and comparisons of the existing methods and show the effectiveness of our methods by illustration examples.

Asian soybean rust (ASR), caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is one of the most destructive foliar diseases that affect soybeans. Developing resistant cultivars is the most cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and easy strategy for controlling the disease. However, the current understanding of the mechanisms underlying soybean resistance to P. pachyrhizi remains limited, which poses a significant challenge in devising effective control strategies. In this study, comparative transcriptomic profiling using one resistant genotype and one susceptible genotype was performed under infected and control conditions to understand the regulatory network operating between soybean and P. pachyrhizi. RNA-Seq analysis identified a total of 6540 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), which were shared by all four genotypes. The DEGs are involved in defense responses, stress responses, stimulus responses, flavonoid metabolism, and biosynthesis after infection with P. pachyrhizi. A total of 25,377 genes were divided into 33 modules using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Two modules were significantly associated with pathogen defense. The DEGs were mainly enriched in RNA processing, plant-type hypersensitive response, negative regulation of cell growth, and a programmed cell death process. In conclusion, these results will provide an important resource for mining resistant genes to P. pachyrhizi infection and valuable resources to potentially pyramid quantitative resistance loci for improving soybean germplasm.

This paper proposes two novel methods for computing the robustly controlled invariant set of linear discrete-time systems with additive bounded disturbances. In the proposed methods, the robustly controlled invariant set of discrete-time systems is obtained by solving the linear matrix inequality given by logarithmic norm and difference inequality. Illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the obtained methods.

In this paper, we focus on the numerical solutions of Maxwell’s equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in rectangular coordinate. A class of explicit methods is derived by using an effective solver for a system of ordinary differential equations which is obtained by approximating on spatial fields. A significant advantage of this class of methods is their simplicity and their ease of implementation. The error estimates presented in this paper show that the numerical solutions obtained by this class of methods is of high-order. The main advantage of this class of methods is that it is divergence-free.

A method based on multiple images captured under different light sources at different incident angles was developed to recognize the coal density range in this study. The innovation is that two new images were constructed based on images captured under four single light sources. Reconstruction image 1 was constructed by fusing greyscale versions of the original images into one image, and Reconstruction image 2 was constructed based on the differences between the images captured under the different light sources. Subsequently, the four original images and two reconstructed images were input into the convolutional neural network AlexNet to recognize the density range in three cases: −1.5 (clean coal) and + 1.5 g/cm3 (non-clean coal); −1.8 (non-gangue) and + 1.8 g/cm3 (gangue); −1.5 (clean coal), 1.5–1.8 (middlings), and + 1.8 g/cm3 (gangue). The results show the following: (1) The reconstructed images, especially Reconstruction image 2, can effectively improve the recognition accuracy for the coal density range compared with images captured under single light source. (2) The recognition accuracies for gangue and non-gangue, clean coal and non-clean coal, and clean coal, middlings, and gangue reached 88.44%, 86.72% and 77.08%, respectively. (3) The recognition accuracy increases as the density moves further away from the boundary density.

The impact of parental involvement on student academic achievement has been confirmed by many studies. However, researchers differ on whether parental involvement can statistically improve student writing skills. Furthermore, the association between parental intervention duration and student writing ability is unclear. Consequently, this study examines the impact of parental involvement on student writing ability through a meta-analysis of 13 studies conducted between 1996 and 2021, with effect sizes of 117 and 1449 participants. Three main findings in the meta-analysis results werek identified. First, the overall effect of parent writing participation on student writing ability was statistically significant, resulting in a moderate positive effect (g = 0.666 95% CI [0.324, 1.008]), p < 0.001). Second, parental participation behavior methods and student educational stages had no significant impact on student writing ability. Third, differences in school area and parental intervention duration had a significant impact on student writing ability, suggesting that parental involvement has a greater role in promoting an improvement in student writing ability in urban schools, and that long-term intervention is more conducive to improving student writing ability.

A positively invariant set is an important concept in dynamical systems. The study of positively invariant set conditions for discrete-time systems is one interesting topic in both theoretical studies and practical applications research. Different methods for characterizing the invariance of different types of sets have been established. For example, the ellipsoidal and the Lorenz cone, which are quadratic convex sets, have different properties from a polyhedral set. This paper presents an optimization method and a dual optimization method to characterize the positive invariance of the ellipsoidal and the Lorenz cone. The proposed methods are applicable to both linear and nonlinear discrete-time systems. Using nonlinear programming and an induced norm, the positive invariance condition problems are transformed into optimization problems, and the dual optimization method is also used to give equivalent dual forms. Fewer results on the positive invariance condition of Lorenz cones can be found than for the other type of set; this paper fulfills the results of this problem. In addition, the proposed methods in this paper provide more options for checking the positive invariance of quadratic convex sets from the perspective of optimization and dual optimization. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated by numerical examples.

This paper focuses on the invariance of the reachability and observability for fractional order positive linear electrical circuits with delays and their checking methods. By derivation and comparison, it shows that conditions and checking methods of reachability and observability for integer and fractional order positive linear electrical circuits with delays are invariant. An illustrative example is presented at the end of the paper.

The p53 oscillator is an essential cell fate controller after DNA damage. In general, the delayed p53-Mdm2 negative feedback loop is thought to be the foundational structure responsible for p53 oscillations. However, it is experimentally found that Mdm2 also has a positive effect on p53. Therefore, we redevelop a p53 model to investigate the effect of the p53-Mdm2 positive feedback loop and time delay on p53 oscillations. To study the effect of delay on the Hopf bifurcation, we analyze the characteristic equation of the linearized system and apply the central manifold method to determine the properties of the Hopf bifurcation. The theoretical results are proved numerically. Furthermore, we reveal that the delay induces not only oscillatory birth but also oscillatory death, depending on the parameters in the positive feedback. Finally, considering the biological background, we discuss the effects of the p53-Mdm2 positive feedback parameters on the amplitude of p53 oscillations. This work may be helpful for artificially altering p53 dynamics and even cell fate.

Auxin has been reported to regulate plant growth and development, as well as to mediate plant adaption to abiotic stresses, including drought. AUX/LAX family displays auxin uptake functions and comprises four highly conserved genes AUX1 and LIKE AUX1 (LAX1, LAX2, and LAX3) in Arabidopsis. There are fifteen GmLAX family genes in the soybean genomes and several members were regulated by dehydration stress. In this study, the sequence differences and expression pattern of GmLAXs-I were analyzed under stress treatment between the soybean drought-tolerant Jindou 21 and drought-sensitive varieties Zhongdou 33. Five homologous genes of AUX1 were all responsive to PEG, salt, ABA and IAA stimuli. There were two SNPs in the promoter region of GmLAX4 gene, and this gene was differentially expressed in two cultivars. Moreover, our results showed YFP-GmLAXs are predominantly localized in plasma membrane. Taken together, our results suggest that GmLAXs are involved in abiotic response, which can provide theoretical and technical support for the genetic improvement of soybean drought tolerance.

BackgroundMelanoma brain metastases (BMs) are associated with poor prognosis and are the main cause of mortality in melanoma patients. BRAF inhibitors have shown intracranial activity in both treatment-naïve and previously treated BM patients. We aimed to investigate if there was any difference in response of BRAF inhibitors in these two cohorts.Materials and MethodsElectronic database search included PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane library until March 2021 for studies with desired comparative outcomes. Outcomes of interest that were obtained for meta-analysis included intracranial response rate as the primary outcome and survival and safety outcomes as the secondary outcomes. Review Manager version 5.4 was used for data analysis.ResultsThree studies comprising 410 BRAF-mutated melanoma patients with BMs were included according to eligibility criteria. The comparative cohort included patients with treatment-naïve BMs (TN cohort; n = 255) and those who had progressive disease after receiving local brain treatment for BMs (PT cohort; n = 155). Meta-analysis revealed that BRAF inhibitors (vemurafenib and dabrafenib) and BRAF/MEK inhibitor combination (dabrafenib and trametinib) induced significantly higher intracranial disease control (OR 0.58 [95% CI: 0.34, 0.97], p = 0.04) and a trend toward improved progression-free survival (PFS) (HR 1.22 [95% CI: 0.98, 1.52], p = 0.08) in the PT cohort as compared to the TN cohort. Overall survival was not significantly different between the cohorts (HR 1.16 [95% CI: 0.89, 1.51], p = 0.28). Subgroup analysis revealed that PFS was significantly improved (HR 1.67 [95% CI: 1.06, 2.62], p = 0.03), and a trend toward improved OS (HR 1.62 [95% CI: 0.95, 2.75], p = 0.08) was achieved in patients receiving BRAF/MEK inhibitor combination and patients with BRAFv600K mutation receiving dabrafenib alone. No increase in overall adverse events (AEs), grade 3/4 AEs, and severe adverse events (SAEs) was observed between the cohorts.ConclusionsBRAF inhibitors (plus MEK inhibitor) may achieve better intracranial disease stability in BRAF-mutant melanoma patients who have received previous local treatment for BMs.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/), identifier CRD42020185984.

Leaf-chewing insects are important pests that cause yield loss and reduce seed quality in soybeans (Glycine max). Breeding soybean varieties that are resistant to leaf-chewing insects can minimize the need for insecticide use and reduce yield loss. The marker gene for QTL-M, Glyma.07g110300 (LOC100775351) that encodes a UDP-glycosyltransferase (UGT) is the major determinant of resistance against leaf-chewing insects in soybean; it exhibits a loss of function in insect-resistant soybean germplasms. In this study, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation introduced the CRISPR/Cas9 expression vector into the soybean cultivar Tianlong No. 1 to generate Glyma.07g110300-gene mutants. We obtained two novel types of mutations, a 33-bp deletion and a single-bp insertion in the GmUGT coding region, which resulted in an enhanced resistance to Helicoverpa armigera and Spodoptera litura. Additionally, overexpressing GmUGT produced soybean varieties that were more sensitive to H. armigera and S. litura. Both mutant and overexpressing lines exhibited no obvious phenotypic changes. The difference in metabolites and gene expression suggested that GmUGT is involved in imparting resistance to leaf-chewing insects by altering the flavonoid content and expression patterns of genes related to flavonoid biosynthesis and defense. Furthermore, ectopic expression of the GmUGT gene in the ugt72b1 mutant of Arabidopsis substantially rescued the phenotype of H. armigera resistance in the atugt72b1 mutant. Our study presents a strategy for increasing resistance against leaf-chewing insects in soybean through CRISPR/Cas9-mediated targeted mutagenesis of the UGT genes.

SIRT1 is a multifunctional deacetylase that participates in a variety of cellular physiological processes to cope with stress. The anticancer protein P53 is an important target of SIRT1. It has been found that SIRT1 is involved in apoptosis by regulating the activity and intracellular location of P53. Moreover, P53-dependent apoptosis is inseparable from the BCL-2 protein family. Among the members of this family, BAX’s switching dynamics may play a key role in apoptosis. Therefore, a challenging question arises: what effect does SIRT1 have on the BAX switch? To answer this question, we built a small-scale protein network model. Through computer simulation, the properties of SIRT1 that on the one hand promote and on the other inhibit apoptosis are revealed. We found that the opening time of the BAX switch will be delayed in the case of either SIRT1 excess or deficiency. Similarly, the stimulus threshold required for apoptosis will also increase in the above two scenarios. Thereby, we proposed that SIRT1 has an optimal content at which the probability of apoptosis is greatest. In addition, P53 oscillation requires the concentration of SIRT1 to be higher than the optimal value. This work may be helpful both experimentally and clinically.

Abstract Background Plant papain-like cysteine proteases (PLCPs) are a large class of proteolytic enzymes and play important roles in root nodule symbiosis (RNS), while the whole-genome studies of PLCP family genes in legume are quite limited, and the roles of Glycine max PLCPs (GmPLCPs) in nodulation, nodule development and senescence are not fully understood. Results In the present study, we identified 97 GmPLCPs and performed a genome-wide survey to explore the expansion of soybean PLCP family genes and their relationships to RNS. Nineteen paralogous pairs of genomic segments, consisting of 77 GmPLCPs, formed by whole-genome duplication (WGD) events were identified, showing a high degree of complexity in duplication. Phylogenetic analysis among different species showed that the lineage differentiation of GmPLCPs occurred after family expansion, and large tandem repeat segment were specifically in soybean. The expression patterns of GmPLCPs in symbiosis-related tissues and nodules identified RNS-related GmPLCPs and provided insights into their putative symbiotic functions in soybean. The symbiotic function analyses showed that a RNS-related GmPLCP gene (Glyma.04G190700) really participate in nodulation and nodule development. Conclusions Our findings improved our understanding of the functional diversity of legume PLCP family genes, and provided insights into the putative roles of the legume PLCPs in nodulation, nodule development and senescence.

Legume nodule development and senescence directly affect nitrogen fixation efficiency and involve a programmed series of molecular events. These molecular events are carried out synchronously by legumes and rhizobia. The characteristics and molecular mechanisms of nitrogen fixation at soybean important developmental stages play critical roles in soybean cultivation and fertilizer application. Although the gene expression of soybean were analyzed in nodules at five important soybean developmental stages, information on the expression of rhizobial genes in these nodule samples is limited. In the present study, we investigated the expression of Bradyrhizobium diazoefficiens 113-2 genes in the nodule samples from five developmental stages of soybean (Branching stage, flowering stage, fruiting stage, pod stage and harvest stage). Similar gene expression patterns of B. diazoefficiens 113-2 were existed during optimal symbiotic functioning, while different expression patterns were found among early nodule development, nitrogen fixation progress and nodule senescence. Besides, we identified 164 important different expression genes (DEGs) associated with nodule development and senescence. These DEGs included those encoding nod, nif, fix proteins and T3SS secretion system-related proteins, as well as proteins involved in nitrogen metabolism, ABC transporters and two-component system pathways. Gene Ontology, KEGG pathway and homology analysis of the identified DEGs revealed that most of these DEGs are uncharacterized genes associated with nodule development and senescence, and they are not core genes among the rhizobia genomes. Our results provide new clues for the understanding of the genetic determinants of soil rhizobia in nodule development and senescence, and supply theoretical basis for the creation of high efficiency soybean cultivation technology.

ObjectivesTo discriminate viable tumors from benign periablational enhancement (BPE) in early stage after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a major confounding problem. The goal of this study is to evaluate quantitative assessment and diagnostic value of CT perfusion between viable tumors and BPE after RFA in the rabbit liver VX2 tumor model, with pathological results as the standard.MethodsTwenty-eight VX2 liver tumors were treated with RFA, on days 1, 3, 7, and 14, seven rabbits were randomly chosen for CT perfusion and performed pathology examinations immediately. The perfusion parameters along with the profile of time-density curves (TDCs) and pseudo-color images of the parameters were observed in both BPE and viable tumors, then compared with the pathology results. The perfusion parameters included blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), time to peak (TTP), permeability (P), arterial liver perfusion (ALP), portal venous perfusion (PVP) and hepatic perfusion index (HPI).ResultsA total of 26/28 rabbits successfully underwent CT perfusion, while 6/26 lesions were confirmed to be viable tumors. The TDCs of BPE were mainly speed-up platform curves (15/26), while the viable tumors showed mainly speed-up speed-down (3/6) and speed-up platform (2/6) curves. The PVP values were significantly higher, and the HPI values were significantly lower for BPE at all time points than viable tumors (P < 0.05). Both of PVP value and HPI value have high efficiency for the differential diagnosis of the viable tumors and BPE at each time point. These characteristics of CT perfusion parameters were consistent with pathological changes.ConclusionsThe TDCs, PVP and HPI have the potential to indicate BPE and viable tumors effectively early after RFA treatment, the results were highly consistent with pathology. CT perfusion has advantages with great efficacy in monitoring the therapeutic effect early after RFA treatment.

Abstract Time delay plays a crucial role in p53 dynamic. However, the theoretical understanding is still lower. Thus we construct a micro-differential equation model and introduce the time delay τ based on the regulation process. Firstly, we linearize the system and analyze the associated characteristic equation. We can conclude that there exists the delay threshold τ 0 $\tau _{0}$ such that when the delay τ is less than τ 0 $\tau _{0}$ , the system is asymptotically stable and otherwise stable oscillations occur. Secondly, we use the normal form method and the center manifold theorem to derive the direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcation. Finally, by numerical simulations we verify our theoretical results. We also find that the effect of noise on the amplitude is more severe than that of the period, which well agrees with the experimental results.

Abstract Background Wild sugarcane Saccharum spontaneum plants vary in ploidy, which complicates the utilization of its germplasm in sugarcane breeding. Investigations on cold tolerance in relation to different ploidies in S. spontaneum may promote the exploitation of its germplasm and accelerate the improvement of sugarcane varieties. Results A hypoploid clone 12–23 (2n = 54) and hyperploid clone 15–28 (2n = 92) of S. spontaneum were analysed under cold stress from morphological, physiological, and transcriptomic perspectives. Compared with clone 15–28, clone 12–23 plants had lower plant height, leaf length, internode length, stem diameter, and leaf width; depressed stomata and prominent bristles and papillae; and thick leaves with higher bulliform cell groups and thicker adaxial epidermis. Compared with clone 15–28, clone 12–23 showed significantly lower electrical conductivity, significantly higher water content, soluble protein content, and superoxide dismutase activity, and significantly higher soluble sugar content and peroxidase activity. Under cold stress, the number of upregulated genes and downregulated genes of clone 12–23 was higher than clone 15–28, and many stress response genes and pathways were affected and enriched to varying degrees, particularly sugar and starch metabolic pathways and plant hormone signalling pathways. Under cold stress, the activity of 6-phosphate glucose trehalose synthase, trehalose phosphate phosphatase, and brassinosteroid-signalling kinase and the content of trehalose and brassinosteroids of clone 12–23 increased. Conclusions Compared with hyperploid clone 15–28, hypoploid clone 12–23 maintained a more robust osmotic adjustment system through sugar accumulation and hormonal regulation, which resulted in stronger cold tolerance.

Alternative oxidases (AOXs) are the terminal oxidase in the cyanide-resistant respiration pathway in plant mitochondria, which play an important role in abiotic stress and are proposed as a functional marker for high tolerant breeding. In this study, ten AOX genes (BnaAOXs) were identified, and CysI and CysII of AOX isoforms were highly conserved in rapeseed. Among them, Bna.AOX1b was mainly expressed in the ovule and displayed varying expression between rapeseed cultivars which showed different salt resistance in seed germination. We identified its mitochondrial localization of this gene. To investigate the function of BnaAOX1b in rapeseed, transgenic rapeseed lines with overexpressed BnaAOX1b were created and seed germination and seedling establishment assays were performed under osmotic, salt, and ABA treatment. The results indicated that overexpression of BnaAOX1b significantly improved seed germination under osmotic and salt stress and weakened ABA sensitivity. In addition, post-germination seedling growth was improved under high salt condition, but showed hypersensitivity to ABA. RNA-sequencing analysis indicated that the genes involved in electron transport or energy pathway were induced and a number of gene responses to salt stress and ABA were regulated in Bna.AOX1b overexpressing seeds. Taken together, our results imply that Bna.AOX1b confers tolerance to osmotic and salt stress in terms of seed germination and seedling establishment by regulating stress responsive genes and the response to ABA, and could be utilized as a candidate gene in transgenic breeding.

Cytotoxic chemotherapeutics are common treatment methods of many cancers, and patients are often dosed at maximum tolerated dose (MTD), which is trying to eliminate cancer cells as much as possible. However, highly doses chemotherapy may induce unexpected gene mutations or DNA recombinations, which in turn result in unpredictable outcomes and drug resistance. In this study, we focus on the occurrence of DNA recombinations, and present a mathematical model for the influence of genomic disorder due to chemotherapy, and investigate how it may lead to drug resistance. We show that there is an optimal dose so that the tumor cells number is minimum at the steady state, which suggests the existence of an optimal dose of chemotherapy below the MTD. Model simulations show that when the dose is either low or high, the tumor cancer cells number may maintain a higher level steady state, or even sustained oscillations when the dose is too high, which are clinically inappropriate. Our results provide a theoretical study on the dose control of chemotherapy in cancer therapy.

BackgroundRadiation therapy (RT) is the mainstay of brain metastases (BMs), and anti-PD-1 blockade has led to intracranial responses in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients with BMs.ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding anti-PD-1 blockade to RT in the management of NSCLC patients with BM in terms of survival outcome.Materials and MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed 70 NSCLC patients with BMs who were treated with whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) between January 2016 and January 2021. Of the 70 patients, 29 additionally received anti-PD-1 therapy within 30 days of WBRT initiation. Baseline characteristics of the patients and efficacy outcomes such as progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were statistically compared using SPSS v26. Results were obtained using the Chi-square test/Fisher exact test, t-test, Kaplan-Meier, and Cox regression survival analyses.ResultsThe median survival for the entire cohort was 24 months (95% CI, 19.5–28.5). The median survival times for WBRT alone and WBRT plus anti-PD-1 therapy cohorts were 20 months (95% CI, 11.6–28.3) and 27 months (95% CI, 19.5–28.5), respectively (p=0.035). There was no statistical difference in PFS for the treatment cohorts (median PFS for WBRT alone: 7 months vs. 12 months for WBRT plus anti-PD-1, p=0.247). In EGFR wild-type subgroup (n=31), both PFS (p=0.037) and OS (p=0.012) were significantly improved. Only the treatment group (WBRT plus anti-PD-1) was a significant predictor of OS on univariate and multivariate analyses (p=0.040). There were no significant differences in adverse events among the treatment groups.ConclusionsNSCLC patients with BM receiving additional anti-PD-1 therapy may derive better OS than WBRT alone without any increase in adverse events. Prospective well-designed studies are warranted to validate and elucidate the additive effects of the two modalities in this group of patients.

With global warming and regional decreases in precipitation, drought has become a problem worldwide. As the number of arid regions in the world is increasing, drought has become a major factor leading to significant crop yield reductions and food crises. Soybean is a crop that is relatively sensitive to drought. It is also a crop that requires more water during growth and development. The aim of this study was to identify the quantitative trait locus (QTL) that affects drought tolerance in soybean by using a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population from a cross between the drought-tolerant cultivar ‘Jindou21’ and the drought-sensitive cultivar ‘Zhongdou33’. Nine agronomic and physiological traits were identified under drought and well-watered conditions. Genetic maps were constructed with 923,420 polymorphic single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers distributed on 20 chromosomes at an average genetic distance of 0.57 centimorgan (cM) between markers. A total of five QTLs with a logarithm of odds (LOD) value of 4.035–8.681 were identified on five chromosomes. Under well-watered conditions and drought-stress conditions, one QTL related to the main stem node number was located on chromosome 16, accounting for 17.177% of the phenotypic variation. Nine candidate genes for drought resistance were screened from this QTL, namely Glyma.16G036700, Glyma.16G036400, Glyma.16G036600, Glyma.16G036800, Glyma.13G312700, Glyma.13G312800, Glyma.16G042900, Glyma.16G043200, and Glyma.15G100700. These genes were annotated as NAC transport factor, GATA transport factor, and BTB/POZ-MATH proteins. This result can be used for molecular marker-assisted selection and provide a reference for breeding for drought tolerance in soybean.

The first successful sand-control was achieved in the Mu Us Desert by local people in the 1950–1960s, and their experience and approach have been extended to the whole Ordos and Northern China since then. The objective of this paper is to assess comprehensively the effectiveness of sand-control in 15 counties in and around Mu Us using multitemporal satellite images and socioeconomic data. After atmospheric correction, Landsat TM and OLI images were harnessed for land cover classification based on the ground-truth data and for derivation of the GDVI (generalized difference vegetation index) to extract the biophysical changes of the managed desert and desertification. Climatic, socioeconomic, environmental and spatial factors were selected for coupling analysis by multiple linear and logistic regression models to reveal the driving forces of desertification and their spatial determinants. The results show that from 1991 to 2020, 8712 km2 or 63% of the desert has been converted into pastures and shrublands with a greenness increase of 0.3509 in GDVI; the effectiveness of sand-control is favored by the rational agropastoral activities and policies; though desertification occurs locally, it is associated with both climatic and socioeconomic factors, such as wind speed, precipitation, water availability, distance to roads and animal husbandry.

Background In patients with acute liver injury caused by hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD), molecular adsorbent recirculation system (MARS) may be used to improve liver function in conjunction with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) to reduce portal hypertension. Methods Twelve patients were admitted to our hospital following treatment for HVOD for 10 to 21 days at other hospitals. All patients were treated with a combination of MARS and TIPS, and they were evaluated clinically including liver function tests. Results After the initial treatment with MARS, liver function improved significantly in all patients. TIPS placement decreased the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) to 10.17 ± 2.26 mmHg from a pre-TIPS HVPG of 23.58 ± 9.43 mmHg. The outcomes of combination treatment with MARS and TIPS in 12 patients with HVOD were as follows: 1) improvement of various clinical and biological parameters leading to full recovery in 1 year in 6 patients; 2) full recovery following liver transplantation for acute liver failure in three patients; and 3) three patients died due to hepatic failure after TIPS placement. Conclusion The combination of MARS and TIPS creation is promising as a potential treatment for acute HVOD, and it showed an improvement in overall survival.

Objective Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) plays a vital role in regulating oxidative stress in tissue injury. The aim of this study was to evaluate the radioprotective effects of honokiol (HKL) in a zebrafish model of radiation-induced brain injury and in HT22 cells. Methods The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) were evaluated in the zebrafish brain and HT22 cells. The expression levels of SIRT3 and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) were measured using western blot assays and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results HKL treatment attenuated the levels of ROS, TNF-α, and IL-1β in both the in vivo and in vitro models of irradiation injury. Furthermore, HKL treatment increased the expression of SIRT3 and decreased the expression of COX-2. The radioprotective effects of HKL were achieved via SIRT3 activation. Conclusions HKL attenuated oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory responses in a SIRT3-dependent manner in radiation-induced brain injury.

The LOR (LURP-one related) family genes encode proteins containing a conserved LOR domain. Several members of the LOR family genes are required for defense against Hyaloperonospora parasitica (Hpa) in Arabidopsis. However, there are few reports of LOR genes in response to abiotic stresses in plants. In this study, a genome-wide survey and expression levels in response to abiotic stresses of 36 LOR genes from Glycine max were conducted. The results indicated that the GmLOR gene family was divided into eight subgroups, distributed on 14 chromosomes. A majority of members contained three extremely conservative motifs. There were four pairs of tandem duplicated GmLORs and nineteen pairs of segmental duplicated genes identified, which led to the expansion of the number of GmLOR genes. The expansion patterns of the GmLOR family were mainly segmental duplication. A heatmap of soybean LOR family genes showed that 36 GmLOR genes exhibited various expression patterns in different tissues. The cis-acting elements in promoter regions of GmLORs include abiotic stress-responsive elements, such as dehydration-responsive elements and drought-inducible elements. Real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression level of GmLOR genes, and most of them were expressed in the leaf or root except that GmLOR6 was induced by osmotic and salt stresses. Moreover, GmLOR4/10/14/19 were significantly upregulated after PEG and salt treatments, indicating important roles in the improvement of plant tolerance to abiotic stress. Overall, our study provides a foundation for future investigations of GmLOR gene functions in soybean.

Positive linear electrical circuits systems described by generalized fractional derivatives are studied in this paper. We mainly focus on the reachability and observability of linear electrical circuits systems. Firstly, generalized fractional derivatives and ρ-Laplace transform of f is presented and some preliminary results are provided. Secondly, the positivity of linear electrical circuits systems described by generalized fractional derivatives is investigated and conditions for checking positivity of the systems are derived. Thirdly, reachability and observability of the generalized fractional derivatives systems are studied, in which the ρ-Laplace transform of a Mittag-Leffler function plays an important role. At the end of the paper, illustrative electrical circuits systems are presented, and conclusions of the paper are presented.

Abtract: Background: Zinc-finger protein 750 (ZNF750) is a potential tumor suppressor in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its anti-tumor effect remain elusive in OSCC. This study aimed to elucidate the genes and pathways involved in tumor suppression following the ZNF750 over-expression in OSCC cell line CAL-27 cell by using the genomics approach. Methods: The RNA sequence libraries were constructed, and the data were analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between vector groups and ZNF750 groups (over-expressed ZNF750 in CAL-27 cell). QPCR and western-blot was used to validate differential expression of candidate genes with cell cycle regulation. The cell cycle distribution was analyzed by BrdU staining. Results: By RNA sequencing profiling, 7,131 genes were differentially expressed in ZNF750 groups. Among the DEGs, 3,285 genes were upregulated, 3,846 genes were downregulated and 4,507 genes were identified in three main categories (cellular_component, biological process and molecular function) based on the gene ontology (GO) classification. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome (KEGG) pathway analysis defined the DEGs could be categorized into 280 pathways and identified the top two most significant pathways involved in spliceosome and cell cycle. Functional categorization and enrichment analysis revealed that most of DEGs involved in binding and catalytic activity, and the cell cycle associated genes were significantly enriched in response to ZNF750 over-expression. ZNF750 induced cell cycle arrest in G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle. Conclusion: Data from this study revealed that the cell cycle pathway was a key factor involved in the anti-tumor effect of ZNF750 in CAL-27 cells.

Background: Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFR) is sometimes used in the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The efficacy and safety of HFR is still under investigation. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to provide a comprehensive summary of the efficacy and safety of HFR, and to compare the efficacy and safety of HFR and conventional fraction radiotherapy (CFR) for the treatment of patients with GBM, based on the results of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).Methods: A literature search was conducted to identify Phase II and III trials o comparing the efficacy and safety of HFR and CFR. Study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment, were conducted by two independent researchers. The analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 and Stata 12.0.Results: Sixteen Phase II and III trials were included in the systematic review, and four RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. Participants treated with HRF and CRF had comparable overall survival (OS) (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.72–1.22, P = 0.64) and progression-free survival (PFS) (HR: 1.09, 95% CI: 0.60–1.95, P = 0.79), and similar rates of adverse events. However, in participants aged >70 years, those who received HFR had a higher OS than those who received CFR (HR: 0.59, 95% CI: 0.37–0.93, P = 0.02).Conclusions: HRF is efficacious and safe for the treatment of GBM. In individuals aged >70 years, treatment with HRF is superior to CFR in terms of OS. The role of HFR in the treatment of GBM in younger individuals and those with good prognostic factors requires further research.

Male sterility exists widely in flowering plants and is used as a fascinating tool by breeders for creating hybrid varieties. Herein, stamen samples from male sterile CCR20000 and male fertile CCR20001 lines during two developmental stages were employed to elucidate the molecular changes during flower development in fertile and sterile Chinese cabbage lines. RNA-seq revealed weak transcriptional activity in the sterile line, which may have led to the abnormal stamen development. The differentially expressed genes were enriched in plant hormone, carbon metabolism, and biosynthesis of amino acid pathways. Important genes with opposite patterns of regulation between the two lines have been associated with the male sterility trait. Members of the transcription factor families such as AP2, MYB, bHLH, and WRKY were highly active in the regulation of structural genes involved in pollen fertility. This study generated important genomic information to support the exploitation of the male sterility trait in Chinese cabbage breeding programs.

Chlorophyll plays an essential role in photosynthetic light harvesting and energy transduction in green tissues of higher plants and is closely related to photosynthesis and crop yield. Identification of transcription factors (TFs) involved in regulating chlorophyll biosynthesis is still limited in soybean (Glycine max), and the previously identified GmGATA58 is suggested to potentially modulate chlorophyll and nitrogen metabolisms, but its complete function is still unknown. In this study, subcellular localization assay showed that GmGATA58 was localized in the nucleus. Histochemical GUS assay and qPCR assay indicated that GmGATA58 was mainly expressed in leaves and responded to nitrogen, light and phytohormone treatments. Overexpression of GmGATA58 in the Arabidopsis thaliana ortholog AtGATA21 (gnc) mutant complemented the greening defect, while overexpression in Arabidopsis wild-type led to increasing chlorophyll content in leaves through up-regulating the expression levels of the large of chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway genes, but suppressing plant growth and yield, although the net photosynthetic rate was slightly improved. Dual-luciferase reporter assay also supported that GmGATA58 activated the transcription activities of three promoters of key chlorophyll biosynthetic genes of soybean in transformed protoplast of Arabidopsis. It is concluded that GmGATA58 played an important role in regulating chlorophyll biosynthesis, but suppressed plant growth and yield in transgenic Arabidopsis.

Plant architecture is crucial for rapeseed yield and is determined by plant height (PH), branch initiation height (BIH), branch number (BN) and leaf and inflorescence morphology. In this study, we measured three major factors (PH, BIH, and BN) in a panel of 333 rapeseed accessions across 4 years. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed via Q + K model and the panel was genotyped using the 60 k Brassica Infinium SNP array. We identified seven loci for PH, four for BIH, and five for BN. Subsequently, by determining linkage disequilibrium (LD) decay associated with 38 significant SNPs, we gained 31, 15, and 17 candidate genes for these traits, respectively. We also showed that PH is significantly correlated with BIH, while no other correlation was revealed. Notably, a GA signaling gene (BnRGA) and a flowering gene (BnFT) located on chromosome A02 were identified as the most likely candidate genes associated with PH regulation. Furthermore, a meristem initiation gene (BnLOF2) and a NAC domain transcriptional factor (BnCUC3) that may be associated with BN were identified on the chromosome A07. This study reveals novel insight into the genetic control of plant architecture and may facilitate marker-based breeding for rapeseed.
