Abstract

Let $p\colon \mathcal{A} \to G$ be a saturated Fell bundle over a locally compact, Hausdorff, second countable, {\'e}tale groupoid~$G$, and let $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ denote its full $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra. We prove an integration-disintegration theorem for KMS states on $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ by establishing a one-to-one correspondence between such states and fields of measurable states on the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras of the Fell bundles over the isotropy groups. This correspondence is established for certain states on $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ also. While proving this main result, we construct an induction $\mathrm{C}^*$-correspondence between~$\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ and the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra of an isotropy Fell bundle. We demonstrate our results through many examples such as groupoid crossed products, twisted groupoid crossed products, $G$-spaces and matrix algebras~$\mathrm{M}_n(\mathrm{C}(X))\otimes A$. While studying the matrix algebra~$\mathrm{M}_n(\mathrm{C}(X))$, we propose a groupoid model for it. While demonstrating our main result for this groupoid model, we provide a solution to the Radon--Nikodym problem for the groupoid used in this model., Comment: 42 pages

Abstract

Let $X$ be a path connected, locally path connected and semilocally simply connected space; let $\tilde{X}$ be its universal cover. We discuss the existence and description of a Haar system on the fundamental groupoid $\Pi_1(X)$ of $X$. The existence of a Haar system on $\Pi_1(X)$ is justified when $X$ is a second countable, locally compact and Hausdorff. We provide equivalent criteria for the existence of the Haar system on a locally compact (locally Hausdorff) fundamental groupoid in terms of certain measures on $X$ and $\tilde{X}$. $\mathrm{C}^*(\Pi_1(X))$ is described using a result of Muhly, Renault and Williams. Let $\mathcal{E}$ be the category of $\Pi_1(X)$-spaces in which the momentum maps are local homeomorphisms. We show that this category is isomorphic to that of covering spaces of $X$. 8. Topological fundamental groupoid. I

Abstract

We show that the fundamental groupoid~\(\Pi_1(X)\) of a locally path connected semilocally simply connected space~\(X\) can be equipped with a \emph{natural} topology so that it becomes a topological groupoid; we also justify the necessity and minimality of these two hypotheses on~\(X\) in order to topologise the fundamental groupoid. We find that contrary to a belief -- especially among the Operator Algebraists -- the fundamental groupoid is not {\etale}. Further, we prove that the fundamental groupoid of a topological group, in particular a Lie group, is a \emph{transformation groupoid}; again, this result disproves a standard belief that the fundamental groupoids are \emph{far} away from being transformation groupoids. Abstract

BackgroundNational Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs) currently make limited use of parasite genetic data. We have developed GenRe-Mekong, a platform for genetic surveillance of malaria in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) that enables NMCPs to implement large-scale surveillance projects by integrating simple sample collection procedures in routine public health procedures.MethodsSamples from symptomatic patients are processed by SpotMalaria, a high-throughput system that produces a comprehensive set of genotypes comprising several drug resistance markers, species markers and a genomic barcode. GenRe-Mekong delivers Genetic Report Cards, a compendium of genotypes and phenotype predictions used to map prevalence of resistance to multiple drugs.ResultsGenRe-Mekong has worked with NMCPs and research projects in eight countries, processing 9623 samples from clinical cases. Monitoring resistance markers has been valuable for tracking the rapid spread of parasites resistant to the dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine combination therapy. In Vietnam and Laos, GenRe-Mekong data have provided novel knowledge about the spread of these resistant strains into previously unaffected provinces, informing decision-making by NMCPs.ConclusionsGenRe-Mekong provides detailed knowledge about drug resistance at a local level, and facilitates data sharing at a regional level, enabling cross-border resistance monitoring and providing the public health community with valuable insights. 24. Evaluation of Thirty Lentil (Lens culinarisMedik.) Genotypes Suitable for Drought Stress Based on Morpho-biochemical Traits and Stress Tolerance Indices

Abstract

Drought is one of the major abiotic factors for reducing yield in lentils. In the past few decades, the severity of drought stress has become a concerning issue for Bangladesh. Therefore, this study was undertaken to screen drought-tolerant germplasms from 30 lentil genotypes, among which 10 genotypes were released varieties of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute and Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, and the remaining 20 genotypes were introduced by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) based on morphological and biochemical traits of plants grown under control and drought stress conditions. This study indicated that all genotypes possess a substantial degree of genetic variation. All the traits had heritability (h2b) ranging from moderate to high (66.13–96.03%). High h2b values, along with high genetic advances, were detected for the number of pods per plant and the number of seeds per plant, indicating the potential for improving these characteristics. There was a significant positive correlation for most of the characteristics under study. Cluster analysis grouped 30 genotypes into five dissimilar clusters. The maximum number of genotypes was under cluster V (nine genotypes), while cluster III consisted of five genotypes that were tolerant genotypes. Several stress tolerance indices were calculated from yields under normal and drought stress conditions for 10 genotypes selected based on yield and yield-related characteristics. Based on these indices, BARI Masur‑5, Binamasur‑8, and ILL-6299 were categorized as tolerant genotypes. According to the assessment of lipid peroxidation in terms of malondialdehyde (MDA) content, BARI Masur-5 had the lowest MDA content under both conditions, followed by Binamasur‑8, ILL-6299, and ILL-5127. In contrast, ILL-87039, BLX-05007, and BARI Masur-1 had greater amounts of MDA, indicating their susceptibility to drought stress. These findings may be useful for further breeding improvement programs for the development of drought-tolerant lentil varieties under climate-changing regimes.

Abstract

Protein source feed components are particularly important in broiler and layer feed formulation. Protein-rich insects may be the greatest substitute for protein-rich feed items such as fish and soybean meals. The black soldier fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens) is an excellent example of an organism that can transform organic waste into protein, lipids, chitin, and other substances. Black Soldier Fly larvae (BSFL) have 42% crude protein, 29% fat, and 23% moisture content on a dry matter (DM) basis. Without specific infrastructure, commercial manufacturing of BSF is achievable. BSF could be used in poultry feed to help reduce pollution. A buildup of organic wastes may result in a possible pollution issue but BSF can transform a wide range of organic waste into a source of protein for poultry. Moreover, the most economical diets were those that had 25% and 100% of Black Soldier Fly Larvae Meal (BSFLM), respectively. The most significant benefit of BSF as a chicken feed ingredient is that it might be a sustainable protein source and a cost-effective replacement for high-cost protein feedstuffs. Abstract

This thesis investigates the extent to which the top 100 ASX-listed companies disclose economic, environmental, and social sustainability risk factors in light of the changes introducing Recommendation 7.4 in the third edition of the Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations (ASX, 2014) in 2014. Using content analysis, I examine the cross-referenced documents in Appendix 4G statements to measure the extent of economic, environmental, and social sustainability risk disclosures by the top 100 Australian listed companies during the 2014-15 financial year, the first full reporting period after the changes came into effect. Recommendation 7.4 attained a high degree of acceptance among companies. All companies complied with the recommendation, although questions of substance over form were raised for several companies. Annual reports are the main means of disclosing sustainability risk, followed by sustainability reports, web disclosures, annual reviews, and corporate governance statements. Many companies use images to disclose sustainability risks in addition to narratives. Further, economic sustainability risk disclosures are higher in non-sensitive industries, whereas social and environmental sustainability risk disclosures are higher in sensitive industries. Last, company size is positively related to sustainability risk disclosure.

Abstract

Our study validated the Ten Question Questionnaire (TQQ+) for Bangladeshi children between 10 and 16 years. The TQQ + is a rapid screening tool for disability and was previously validated in children below 9 years of age. The study was carried out in Chattogram, Bangladesh. One hundred children aged 10–16 years, 10 with mild or moderate disabilities, 40 with severe disabilities, and 50 children without a disability were identified. Children with disability (n = 50) had previously undergone Wechsler Intelligence Scale-Revised (WISC-R) assessments by psychologists as a reference standard. Each child was evaluated using Rapid Neurodevelopmental Assessment (RNDA) by physicians and TQQ + was administered by researchers. Sensitivities and specificities of TQQ + were evaluated in comparison with RNDA and WISC-R. The sensitivity of TQQ + was 98% in comparison with either RNDA or WISC-R. The specificity of TQQ was 76.5% compared with RNDA and 78% with WISC-R. TQQ + successfully picked up cognitive (98%) and motor (75%) disabilities as well as behavioural problems (88.9%). Specificity was good to excellent in all other domains. Logistic regression showed that TQQ + could reliably predict disability by RNDA and WISC-R. The area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC) curve was 0.88 which denoted good diagnostic accuracy of the questionnaire. The TQQ + is valid for screening disabilities in 10–16 year old Bangladeshi children. If children with neurodevelopmental disabilities are screened early, the benefit of intervention will be greater. TQQ + is an easy to administer and low-cost tool that has been validated internationally. The TQQ + is now validated and can be used for children aged 10 to 16 years in Bangladesh.
