In this study, we investigate family language policy in a transnational family through a collaborative autoethnography. Following the theoretical underpinnings of family language policy (Spolsky in J Multiling Multicult Dev 31:3-11, 2012), we present parental language beliefs, management, and practices in retrospect to shine a light on the long-term impact of the family's language policy on their daughter's linguistic development in heritage languages (i.e., Persian and Hindi) and English. The components of the family language policy in this cross-cultural transnational family are sketched in the second author's narratives of her experiences of multilingual childrearing and heritage language maintenance. We engage with, and critique, recent family language scholarship that apply postmodernist lens to examine families' translingual use of languages at home to get by their daily life, showing how having failed to set boundaries between the home/heritage languages and English over the past nine years has resulted in their child's predominant proficiency in English. We argue that such failure has its roots in parents' own past lived, and future imagined, experiences, as well as language ideologies that are polycentric and scaled, the consequences of which concern emotional, linguistic, cultural and social frictions across generations. Drawing on the narratives of success and failure in the family, we call for critical adoption of translingual frameworks in examining family language policy paying careful attention to the long-term impact of such practices at home on children's linguistic development.

Aims and objectives: This study applies the notion of chronotope as an analytical tool to explore the role of globalization, immigration, and transnationalism in shaping multilingual children's awareness and use of semiotic resources in changing social contexts. Design/methodology/approach: This study is a part of an ongoing collaborative autoethnography (CAE), in which the data come from the second author's cross-cultural transnational family and are shared with the first author for a collaborative interpretation and analysis. Data and analysis: Data were collected through recording the observations of language practices of a nine-year-old girl in a transnational family, including her plays on her own or with her peers in and outside the home. An ethnographically grounded discourse-analytic approach was employed in analyzing the data. Findings/conclusions: Despite rich linguistic and cultural repertoire, the child situated English on a higher scale level in a hierarchically layered system, and she found imaginative play as a space in which she could explore not only linguistic repertoire but also certain cultural chronotopes. She also demonstrated her awareness of and skills in drawing on variation within the English language to index certain social personae. Originality: The originality of the study lies, first, in the uniqueness of the case being in an Indian-Iranian multilingual transnational family and, second, in the unique methodology—using chronotopes as a theoretical and analytic tool to analyze audio-recorded interactions in a multilingual child's imaginative plays. Significance/implications: The study has implications for our understanding of how children pick up indexical meanings of linguistic choices and reproduce them in their imaginative worlds. Background: Current study was designed to provide a better insight into the circulating genotypes, genetic diversity, and population structure of Echinococcus spp. between southeast of Iran and Pakistan. Methods: From Jun 2020 to Dec 2020, 46 hydatid cysts were taken from human (n: 6), camel (n: 10), goat (n: 10), cattle (n: 10) and sheep (n: 10) in various cities of Sistan and Baluchestan Province of Iran, located at the neighborhood of Pakistan. DNA samples were extracted, amplified, and subjected to sequence analysis of cox1 and nad1 genes. Results: The phylogeny inferred by the Maximum Likelihood algorithm indicated that G1 genotype (n: 19), G3 genotype (n: 14) and G6 genotype (n: 13) assigned into their specific clades. The diversity indices showed a moderate (nad1: Hd: 0.485) to high haplotype diversity (cox1: Hd: 0.867) of E. granulosus s.s. (G1/G3) and low nucleotide diversity. The negative value of Tajima's D and Fu's Fs test displayed deviation from neutrality indicating a recent population expansion. A parsimonious network of the haplotypes of cox1 displayed star-like features in the overall population containing IR9/PAK1/G1, IR2/PAK2/G3 and IR18/G6 as the most common haplotypes. A pairwise fixation index (Fst) indicated that E. granulosus s.s. populations are genetically moderate differentiated between southeast of Iran and Pakistan. The extension of haplotypes PAK18/G1 (sheep) and PAK26/G1 (cattle) toward Iranian haplogroup revealed that there is dawn of Echinococcus flow due to a transfer of alleles between mentioned populations through transport of livestock or their domestication. Conclusion: The current findings strengthen our knowledge concerning the evolutionary paradigms of E. granulosus in southeastern borders of Iran and is effective in controlling of hydatidosis. BACKGROUND: Haemonchosis is one of the most important nematode infections in cattle population. Knowledge of genetic diversity and morphological analysis can provide a foundation for understanding the drug resistance, epidemiological features, and control strategies in a geographical area. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to evaluate the morphological parameters and molecular targets (ITS1-ITS2 and Beta-tubulin) of cattle Haemonchus nematodes from southeast of Iran and to find species diversity and benzimidazole resistance. METHODS: From May 2016 to April 2017, 300 abomasa of cattle slaughtered at slaughterhouses of Zabol, Zahedan, and Iranshahr were inspected. Ninety-eight adults male Haemonchus nematodes were morphologically analyzed. For molecular analysis, the amplification of ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 regions, and Beta-tubulin fragment was done. RESULTS: All specimens were morphologically identified as H. contortus. The ITS2 sequencing and the phylogenetic tree revealed 99% similarity between H.contortus from this study and those from other parts of the world. There was no mutation in the positions and all nematodes were benzimidazole susceptible. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that although H. placei is the most common Haemonchus species in the cattle around the world, H. contortus is mostly prevalent in southeast region of Iran. Fluoride concentration, if exceeds the standard levels in drinking water, can lead to adverse effects on human health. Adsorption is one of the widely considered appropriate technologies for water defluoridation. In this study, modified pumice with HCl and NaOH were used for the fluoride removal from aqueous solution, and two linear forms of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms model were applied to determine the best fit of equilibrium expressions. Several experimental parameters including pH (2–10), temperature (20–60°C), adsorbent dosage (2–10 g/L), fluoride concentration (5–20 mg/L), and contact time were studied. Results showed that removal efficiency improved with increase in contact time, initial fluoride concentration, and adsorbent dosage. The maximum removal efficiency (96%) was observed at pH 6, 10 g/L adsorbent dosage, 20°C solution temperature, 90-min reaction time, and 20 mg/L of fluoride concentration. The kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption equilibrium and kinetic data were in good agreement with the Langmuir Model (R2 = 0.95) with qmax = 65.5 mg/g and pseudo-second-order reaction (R2 = 0.99). According to the results, the modified pumice was found to be able to remove fluoride from aqueous environments with good removal efficiency and adsorption capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
