Rapid and accurate in situ determination of dopamine is of great significance in the study of neurological diseases. In this work, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrenesulfonic acid) (PEDOT: PSS)/graphene oxide (GO) fibers were fabricated by an effective method based on microfluidic wet spinning technology. The composite microfibers with stratified and dense arrangement were continuously prepared by injecting PEDOT: PSS and GO dispersion solutions into a microfluidic chip. PEDOT: PSS/GO fiber microelectrodes with high electrochemical activity and enhanced electrochemical oxidation activity of dopamine were constructed by controlling the structure composition of the microfibers with varying flow rate. The fabricated fiber microelectrode had a low detection limit (4.56 nM) and wide detection range (0.01–8.0 µM) for dopamine detection with excellent stability, repeatability, and reproducibility. In addition, the PEDOT: PSS/GO fiber microelectrode prepared was successfully used for the detection of dopamine in human serum and PC12 cells. The strategy for the fabrication of multi-component fiber microelectrodes is a new and effective approach for monitoring the intercellular neurotransmitter dopamine and has high potential as an implantable neural microelectrode. Objective: To examine how executive functioning (EF) relates to academic achievement longitudinally in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas (PNs) and whether age at baseline moderates this relationship. Method: Participants included 88 children with NF1 and PNs (ages 6–18 years old, M = 12.05, SD = 3.62, 50 males) enrolled in a natural history study. Neuropsychological assessments were administered three times over 6 years. EF (working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and attention) was assessed by performance-based (PB) and parent-reported (PR) measures. Multilevel growth modeling was used to examine how EF at baseline related to initial levels and changes in broad math, reading, and writing across time, controlling for demographic variables. Results: The relationship between EF and academic achievement varied across EF and academic domains. Cognitive flexibility (PB) uniquely explained more variances in initial math, reading, and writing scores; working memory (PB) uniquely explained more variances in initial levels of reading and writing. The associations between EF and academic achievement tended to remain consistent across age groups with one exception: Lower initial levels of inhibitory control (PR) were related to a greater decline in reading scores. This pattern was more evident among younger (versus older) children. Conclusions: Findings emphasize the heterogeneous nature of academic development in NF1 and that EF skills could help explain the within-group variability in this population. Routine cognitive/academic monitoring via comprehensive assessments and early targeted treatments consisting of medication and/or systematic cognitive interventions are important to evaluate for improving academic performance in children with NF1 and PNs. Calibration of the non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for pipeline inspections is commonly done via machined defects with simple shapes and known sizes. However, such defects do not represent, e.g. an actual pit morphology observed in the field, which could lead to the unreliable interpretation of the inspection results. This work proposed a systematic approach to create and characterise real pits in stainless steel pipe specimens to assess the sensitivity of selected NDT methods. Pipe samples with three different diameters and thicknesses were used. Pits of different geometries and dimensions were generated by electrochemical methods, and immersion in an acidic ferric chloride solution filled in pre-drilled holes on the external surface of the specimens. NDT methods including radiography, Eddy current and dye penetrant testing were used for detecting and sizing the pits. The results were then compared with true pit depths obtained from cross-section analysis. Radiography and Eddy current methods failed to detect small pits with depths less than 70 µm. The porous metal cover on the pit mouth affected the detectability of radiography, while it had little impact on Eddy current testing. Simple Summary: Individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) are vulnerable to socioemotional difficulties. However, we know little about how socioemotional functioning changes across childhood and adolescence and what factors predict the change. The current longitudinal study aims to address this gap by examining how demographic and NF1-disease related factors predict development of socioemotional functioning in a sample of children and adolescents with NF1 and PNs. We found substantial within-group variabilities in socioemotional development with developmental patterns varying across socioemotional domains, reporters of socioemotional functioning, age at baseline, parental education, race/ethnicity, number of NF1-related complications, and visibility of tumors. These findings indicate the need for individualized patient care and interventions that consider each child's unique background and needs. The results also suggest the need for more longitudinal research to further understand how various factors affect socioemotional development in children with NF1 to better inform intervention development and practices. For instance, lower parental education was associated with a greater decline in internalizing problems (PR) but a greater increase in school disconnectedness (CR) over time. Non-White (vs. White) children were more likely to experience increased adaptive skills (PR) but decreased personal adjustment (CR). Children with more visible tumors experienced a greater decrease in school disconnectedness (CR). Children with more NF1 complications experienced a greater decrease in externalizing problems (PR). These findings indicate the necessity of using multi-informants and investigating subdomains of socioemotional functions. Prior studies have shown that adolescents’ positive relationships with family, teachers, and peers are separately related to higher life satisfaction. However, the underlying mechanisms linking social relationships to life satisfaction and the potential interactive effects of these social relationships on life satisfaction have received less attention. The current study investigated how positive family function, teacher acceptance, and peer acceptance jointly relate to adolescent life satisfaction, and examined two potential mediators linking these social relationships to life satisfaction: self-compassion and psychological resilience. Participants were 803 Chinese adolescents (43.8% female; Mage at Time 1 = 13.15 years) from a two-wave longitudinal study with data spanning 1 year. Adolescents reported on their social relationships (i.e., family function, teacher acceptance, and peer acceptance), self-compassion, psychological resilience, and life satisfaction. The results demonstrate that Time 1 positive family function, teacher acceptance, and peer acceptance were positively related to Time 2 psychological resilience through Time 1 self-compassion. Greater Time 2 psychological resilience, in turn, was positively linked to Time 2 adolescent life satisfaction. The indirect link from peer acceptance to self-compassion to psychological resilience to life satisfaction was stronger when teacher acceptance was higher (vs. lower), as teacher acceptance strengthened the link between peer acceptance and self-compassion. Language brokering is a shared parent-child experience with implications for parent-child relationships and, in turn, individuals' psychological well-being; however, few studies recognize the role of parents. This study took a dyadic approach to investigate the association between brokering experiences and internalizing symptoms, and the mediating role of parent-child alienation. Participants were 604 Mexican-origin adolescents (54% female, Mage = 12.41) and their mothers (N = 595). Both adolescents' and their mothers' brokering experiences were related to their own internalizing symptoms via their self-reported parent-child alienation. Mothers' brokering experiences also affected adolescents so that when mothers experienced more negative brokering experiences, adolescents perceived greater parent-child alienation, and in turn more internalizing symptoms, suggesting the necessity of considering language brokering's influence on members involved as a dyadic process. Changing patterns of risk aversion may follow a non-linear counter-cyclical process. However, the evidence so far has not considered developing cryptocurrency markets. Given some unique features of cryptocurrencies, it is interesting to distinguish how these assets differ from traditional products. This paper investigates the time effects of periodicity on risk aversion for a selection of major cryptocurrencies compared to major financial assets. Significant periodic time-varying patterns are identified when analysing risk aversion. Further, bilateral and bidirectional Granger causalities are identified within cryptocurrencies, as well as between cryptocurrencies and traditional financial assets. Bitcoin is identified as a leading information transmitter of the spillover of risk aversion upon other cryptocurrencies, while estimated risk aversion of traditional financial markets plays a dominant role in the spillover processes upon the cryptocurrency cluster. The latter finding presents further evidence of developing cryptocurrency market maturity. The Asian corn borer (ACB), Ostrinia furnacalis, is a serious maize pest in Southeast Asia, responsible for substantial economic losses to the maize crop every year. To establish insect biocontrol programmes, it is crucial to determine the ideal numbers and developmental stage of natural enemies to release. The purpose of the present study was to assess the parasitism ability of Trichogramma dendrolimi and Trichogramma ostriniae, which are the most promising biocontrol agents of the ACB, under two different methods of inundative release in maize fields. A total of 10,000 wasps of both species were released using two different methods, i.e. wasps at the same developmental stage (SDS) and wasps at different developmental stages (DDS). The results showed that T. dendrolimi wasps exhibited significantly higher parasitism of ACB eggs when they were released with the DDS method than when they were released with the SDS method. In the SDS release method, T. dendrolimi parasitized ACB eggs for only 3 days after release, while in the DDS release method, parasitism of ACB eggs occurred for 6 days. However, the two release methods had no significant impact on the performance of T. ostriniae in maize fields. In both release methods, T. ostriniae parasitized a high percentage of ACB eggs. The current study investigates how and under what conditions family obligation benefits Mexican American adolescents' adjustment. The study used two waves of data from 604 Mexican American adolescents (54.3% female, Mage.wave1 = 12.41 years, SD = 0.97) and their parents. Structural equation modeling revealed that both adolescents' and parents' sense of family obligation related to more supportive parenting (i.e., parental monitoring, warmth, and inductive reasoning), which linked to better adolescent adjustment (i.e., sense of life meaning, resilience, and grades). There were parent gender differences: Adolescents' family obligation was more strongly related to their reports of maternal (vs. paternal) parenting. The links also varied across informants for parenting: (a) individuals' sense of family obligation related only to their own perceptions of parenting and (b) there were more evident associations between adolescent-reported (vs. parent-reported) parenting and adolescent outcomes. Microlenses and microlens arrays are one of the indispensable components in modern optical systems ranging from imaging and beam shaping to polarization control and switchable 2D/3D displays. Among them, the liquid crystal microlenses (LCMs) with size below 1 mm have attracted more and more attention due to their stimuli‐responsiveness and tunability in focal length and polarization. Compared with microlenses based on inorganic binary optics, diffractive optical elements, or metasurface, LCMs are more cost‐effective and can be easily tuned. In this paper, an in‐depth review of the design principles, fabrication techniques, emerging applications, and recent advances of LCMs and arrays is presented, aiming to clarify the characteristics, limitations, and challenges in LCMs design and fabrication. The present study aimed to evaluate the protective role of cilengitide (CGT), an integrin αvβ3 and αvβ5 inhibitor, on doxorubicin (DOX)-induced myocardial fibrosis and cardiac dysfunction in a rat model. Methods. Forty male rats were randomly divided into four groups: DOX (n = 12), intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of DOX 0.8 ∼ 1.0 mg/kg three times a week for up to 6 weeks, then saline i.p. three times a week for another 3 weeks; CGT (n = 8), CGT 10 mg/kg, i.p. three times a week for 9 weeks; DOX + CGT (n = 12), DOX and CGT co-administration as above for 6 weeks, then CGT alone for another 3 weeks; Control (n = 8), saline i.p. three times a week for 9 weeks. Echocardiography, serum procollagen I C-terminal propeptide (PICP) procollagen III N-terminal propeptide (PIIINP) and C telopeptide type I (CTX-I) were evaluated at baseline and 3, 6 and 9 weeks after initial DOX administration for all surviving rats. The heart tissues were then harvested for myocardial hydroxyproline (HYP) evaluation, qRT-PCR, and western blotting. Results. CGT attenuated DOX-induced eccentric remodeling by improving relative wall thickness at the 9th week. CGT also improved systolic function at the 9th week and diastolic function at the 6th and 9th week. CGT reduced myocardial HYP and serum PICP, PIIINP, CTX-I, and the PICP/PIIINP ratio. RT-PCR and western blot showed that CGT blocked the TGF-β1/SMAD3 pathway and mitigating extracellular matrix turnover. Conclusions. Objectives: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) has proven itself as an accurate and robust diagnostic approach and has been widely used in the detection of various heart diseases. An increasing number of studies focusing more on the prognostic aspect of LGE-CMR arose in recent years, contributing to the redundant systematic reviews and meta-analyses in this field. By providing a bird's eye view and performing scrupulous evidence rating, this umbrella review aims to help clinical practitioners and policy-makers interpret the results of the meta-analyses on the prognostic role of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in patients with heart diseases. Methods: An umbrella review of meta-analyses of observational studies. Results: The 11 included systematic reviews comprise 33 meta-analyses covering 11 types of heart diseases, 19 different outcomes, 23,058 subjects, and 5393 events. Thirty-one of 33 meta-analyses were found supported by weak pieces of evidence and the remaining were deemed not suggestive. The meta-analysis with a p value of 9.21 × 10−15 and 991 events was updated by strictly re-conducting the meta-analysis by Becker et al. The updated meta-analysis on the prognostic role of LGE in subjects with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in terms of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) included 1131 events and was rated as highly suggestive evidence. Conclusions: The prognostic role of LGE in DCM patients in terms of MACE is supported by highly suggestive evidence, which may facilitate the optimization of the timing of prophylactic implantable or wearable implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) considering the high risk of MACE and lower expectation of recovery. Bullying experiences play an important role in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). However, little is known about how and in what conditions different bullying experiences (i.e., experiences of being pure bullies, pure victims, and bully-victims) may influence NSSI. Guided by the transactional model of development and the integrated model of NSSI, the current study investigated two potential mediators (i.e., peer acceptance and depressive symptoms) and one potential moderator (i.e., psychological resilience) of the relations between different bullying experiences and NSSI. Participants were 812 Chinese adolescents (43% female; Mage at Wave 1 = 13.15 years) from a two-wave longitudinal study with data spanning 1 year. The results show that all three types of bullying experiences can relate to a higher likelihood of NSSI through two indirect pathways: (a) lower peer acceptance to more depressive symptoms, or (b) more depressive symptoms. These indirect effects were weaker for adolescents with higher (versus lower) levels of psychological resilience. Moreover, when bully-victims were distinguished from pure bullies and pure victims and the unique effects for all three groups were tested, the direct and indirect effects were most evident among bully-victims. These findings imply that it is necessary to distinguish bully-victims from pure bullies and pure victims. The results indicate that NSSI may be effectively reduced if interventions focus on promoting peer acceptance and reducing adolescent depressive symptoms, particularly for bully-victims with lower levels of psychological resilience. By exploring the molecular binding mode, we studied the changes of the binding mode of the main amino acid residues between the four MBCs fungicides and the wild type and mutant Monilinia fructicoloa beta-tubulin protein constructed by homologous modeling. Constructing homology related models through sequence alignment based on sequence information from Monilinia fructicola beta-tubulin protein. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were then used to identify the optimum binding mode of benomyl, carbendazim, thiabendazole and thiophanate-methyl with Monilinia fructicola beta-tubulin protein. Furthermore, we calculated the binding free energy of four wild-type and mutant protein-ligand complexes using MM/PBSA. The result shows that when E198A was mutated, the hydrogen bonding force of thiophanate-methyl binding to the protein was reduced. The possible underlying cause of the resistance is the disappearance of the π-π stacking interaction with Phe200. When E198Q was mutated, all three fungicides, excluding carbendazim, interacted with Gln198 of the protein through hydrogen bonding. However, the binding pattern of carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl were least affected. When F200Y was mutated, the binding pocket of benomyl is slightly altered concerning the binding pattern between the wild-type protein and the fungicide concerning the amino acid residues. Metal phosphorous trisulfide (MPS 3) is considered to be the promising anode material for LIBs owing to the advantage of its high capacity and layered structure. Nevertheless, the inferior reaction kinetics resulting from its low electron conductivity hinder its further practical application. Herein, bimetallic alloy Fe x Co 1- x PS 3 with gradient Fe: Co coated by a nitrogen-doped carbon layer is designed to accelerate the electron transfer and Li-ion diffusion rate. The in-situ X-ray diffraction technique is applied to precisely confirm the phase evolution of the Fe 0.63 Co 0.37 PS 3 coated by N-doped carbon layer (FCPS-5/NC) anode upon the (de)lithiation process. Theoretical calculations confirm that alloying with Co can reduce the bandgap and decrease the energy barrier of Li ion diffusion. In addition, the conductive carbon layer can improve the electric conductivity of the whole electrode. As an anode for LIBs, the FCPS-5/NC electrode reveals a high rate capacity of 554 mA h g−1 at 3.0 A/g and thus achieves a comparable lithium storage performance among the reported MPS 3 -based anodes. Meanwhile, the Li-ion full cell assembled with FCPS-5/NC anode also exhibited excellent cycling performance, confirming its value for practical application. The age of Trichogramma parasitoids could influence biological traits which are of great importance for effectiveness of mass rearing systems. Recent studies demonstrated that Trichogramma ostriniae (TO) could parasitize Antheraea pernyi eggs through multiparasitism along with other Trichogramma species, although few adults could emerge successfully. It is important to characterize the factors modulating the performance of TO on A. pernyi eggs, notably in order to try enhancing its quantitative emergence through multiparasitism for further use in biological control. In this context, irrespective of host age, we tested different ages of TO females (from 0.5-day- to 6-day-old postemergence) in multiparasitism with Trichogramma chilonis (TC) on A. pernyi eggs. The results of the present study confirmed that TO parasitism on A. pernyi eggs was largely age dependent. Higher percentage of multiparasitism and higher number of emerged TO adults were recorded in the treatment where 3-day-old TO females were used for parasitization with TC on A. pernyi host. In addition, we also tested different female ratios of both Trichogramma species to find out an optimal ratio for use in mass production. The highest percentage of multiparasitism, emergence and optimum emerged number of TO (per A. pernyi egg) was observed with the ratio 3:2 (TO:TC) per 1 host egg. This study demonstrated that the age of TO females can significantly affect their performance in multiparasitism of large A. pernyi eggs. Aim: To describe the cognitive development of children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas, and identify predictors of cognitive development.Method: Participants included 88 children with NF1 and plexiform neurofibromas (50 males, 38 females, aged 6-18y, mean=12y, SD=3y 7mo) on a natural history study at the National Cancer Institute. Neuropsychological assessments (e.g. IQ, academic achievement, attention, and executive functioning) were administered three times over 6 years.Results: Relative to normative peers, the total sample of children with NF1 and plexiform neurofibromas demonstrated significantly lower scores in most cognitive domains and decreasing z-scores over time in math, writing, inhibitory control, and working memory. Children who had parents with (vs without) NF1 were more likely to experience decreased z-scores in performance IQ, reading, writing, attention, and working memory. Higher (vs lower) parental education was related to higher levels of IQ, math, reading, and cognitive flexibility and a slower decrease in math z-scores. Children's sex and the number of NF1 disease-related complications were not related to most cognitive outcomes.Interpretation: Children with NF1 and plexiform neurofibromas are at high risk for cognitive difficulties and declining z-scores in various domains of cognitive functioning over time. Objectives: Survey data of 155 Midwestern African American adolescents (Mage = 13.25, 54.8% female) and their parents were assessed to examine whether parents' racial discrimination experiences and adolescents' gender moderated the association between adolescents' racial discrimination experiences and involved-vigilant parenting.Methods: Path analyses were conducted with racial discrimination and gender at Wave 1 predicting parenting at Wave 2, controlling for Wave 1 parenting and demographic variables.Results: Boys with high levels of racial discrimination experiences and who had parents with low racial discrimination experiences had declines in involved-vigilant parenting. Parents and adolescents often provide discordant reports on parenting. Prior studies are inconsistent regarding the extent, predictors, and consequences of such discordance. The current study aimed to robustly estimate the extent, potential moderators, and consequences of discordance between parent- and adolescent-reported parenting by (a) meta-analyzing a large number of studies involving both parent- and adolescent-reported parenting (n = 313) and (b) qualitatively summarizing the main methods and findings in studies examining how parent−adolescent discordance in reports of parenting relates to adolescent outcomes (n = 36). The meta-analysis demonstrated a small yet statistically significant correlation between parent- and adolescent-reported parenting (r =.276; 95% confidence interval [CI:.262,.290]); parents perceived parenting more positively than did adolescents, with a small but statistically significant mean-level difference (g =.242; 95% CI [.188,.296]). The levels of parent−adolescent discordance were higher for younger (vs. older) and male (vs. female) adolescents; for nonclinical parents (vs. parents with internalizing symptoms); in more individualistic societies such as the United States; and in ethnic minority (vs. White), low (vs. high) socioeconomic status, and nonintact (vs. intact) families among U.S. samples. The qualitative review highlighted current methodological approaches, main findings, and limitations and strengths of each approach. Together, the two components of the current study have important implications for research and clinical practice, including areas of inquiry for future studies and how researchers and clinicians should handle informant discordance. The current study investigated early adolescents' experiences of friend-related stress across middle school and its developmental consequences following the transition to high school. Using a sample of approximately 1,000 middle school students, four unique friend-related stress trajectories were observed across middle school: consistently low friend-related stress (57% of the sample), consistently high friend-related stress (7%), moderate and increasing friend-related stress (22%), and moderate but decreasing friend-related stress (14%). Groups characterized by higher levels of friend-related stress across middle school were linked to subsequent poorer socioemotional well-being, lower academic engagement, and greater involvement in and expectancies around risky behaviors following the transition to high school. Increased friend-related stress across the high school transition was also linked to poorer outcomes, even after taking into account earlier stress trajectories. Introduction: Discrimination is detrimental for the development of ethnic minority adolescents' academic competence. To combat the negative effects of discrimination and promote academic success, it is important to understand the mechanisms underlying the association between discrimination and academic competence. Guided by the integrative model of ethnic minority children's development and the adapting cultural systems framework, this study examined whether a culture-specific factor, language brokering efficacy, mediated the relation between adolescents' perceived discrimination and their academic competence.Method: Data were drawn form a two-wave longitudinal study of 604 Mexican American adolescent language brokers residing in and around a metropolitan city in central Texas, USA (54% female; Mage = 12.5; SD = 1.0; 75% born in the U.S.). Path analyses were conducted to answer the research questions.Results: The study revealed that the link between discrimination and academic competence was mediated by language brokering efficacy when translating for fathers and mothers, although the path from language brokering efficacy to academic competence was stronger when brokering for mothers.Conclusions: The results highlight the importance of incorporating ethnic minority children's adapting cultural experiences in linking the contextual influence with their developmental competence. Risks of pathogenic bacteria to the health of both human beings and water ecosystems have been widely acknowledged. However, traditional risk assessment methods based on fecal indicator bacteria and/or pure culture are not comprehensive at the community level, mainly owing to the limited taxonomic coverage. Here, we combined the technique of high-throughput sequencing and the concept of metacommunity to assess the potential pathogenic bacterial communities in an economically and ecologically crucial but highly polluted river—the North Canal River (NCR) in Haihe River Basin located in North China. NCR presented a significant environmental gradient, with the highest, moderate, and lowest levels of pollution in the up-, middle, and downstream. After multiple analyses, we successfully identified 48 genera, covering nine categories of potential pathogens (mainly human pathogens). The most abundant genus was Acinetobacter, which was rarely identified as a pathogen bacterium in previous studies of NCR. At the community level, we observed significant geographical variation of community composition and structure. Such a high level of geographical variation was mainly derived from differed abundance of species among sections along the river, especially the top seven Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs). For example, relative abundance of OTU1 (Gammaproteobacteria/Acinetobacter) increased significantly from upstream towards downstream. Regarding the underlying mechanisms driving community geographical variation, environmental filtering was identified as the dominant ecological process and total nitrogen as the most influential environmental variable. Altogether, this study provided a comprehensive profile of potential pathogenic bacteria in NCR and revealed the underlying mechanisms of community succession. Owing to their high abundance and wide geographical distribution, we suggest that potential pathogens identified in this study should be incorporated into future monitoring and management programs in NCR. By revealing the correlation between environmental factors and community composition, the results obtained in this study have significant implications for early warning and risk assessment of potential pathogen bacteria, as well as management practices in highly polluted river ecosystems. Peer relationship plays an important role in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). However, little is known about how and in what conditions peer relationship may influence NSSI. By integrating multiple theories (i.e., attachment theory, the emotional regulation model of self-compassion and NSSI, and the differential-susceptibility theory), the current study investigated two potential mediators (i.e., self-compassion and depressive symptoms) and one potential moderator (i.e., behavioral impulsivity) of the relation between peer acceptance and NSSI. Participants were 813 Chinese adolescents (43% female; Mage at Wave 1 = 13.15 years) from a two-wave longitudinal study with data spanning one year. The results revealed that the indirect pathways linking peer acceptance and NSSI were conditioned on the level of behavioral impulsivity. Specifically, for adolescents with lower levels of impulsivity, a higher level of peer acceptance was related to fewer depressive symptoms directly or indirectly through self-compassion; fewer depressive symptoms, in turn, were linked to fewer NSSI behaviors longitudinally. For adolescents with higher levels of behavioral impulsivity, peer acceptance was related to fewer NSSI behaviors only through self-compassion. Results indicate that increasing peer acceptance is important in reducing adolescent NSSI. Interventions designed to reduce adolescent NSSI may also be effective if they focus on promoting adolescent self-compassion, particularly for adolescents with higher levels of behavioral impulsivity. Study Question: Are genetic abnormalities in CATSPER (cation channel of sperm) genes associated with idiopathic male infertility with normal semen parameters and, if so, how do they affect male fertility?Summary Answer: A novel copy number variation (CNV) in CATSPER2 causes idiopathic male infertility with normal semen parameters by disrupting the ability of sperm to penetrate viscous media, undergo hyperactivation and respond to progesterone.What Is Known Already: CATSPER is the principle Ca2+ channel mediating extracellular Ca2+ influx into spermatozoa. Although several case reports have suggested a causal relationship between CATSPER disruption and human male infertility, whether genetic abnormalities in CATSPER genes are associated with idiopathic male infertility with normal semen parameters remains unclear.Study Design, Size, Duration: Spermatozoa were obtained from men attending the reproductive medical center at Jiangxi Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China between January 2014 and June 2016. In total, 120 men from infertile couples and 20 healthy male donors were selected to take part in the study, based on their normal semen parameters.Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: CATSPER and KSPER currents were assessed using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Whole-genome sequencing and TaqMan® CNV assays were performed to identify genetic variations. The expression levels of genes encoding the CATSPER complex were measured by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot. Sperm motion characteristics and hyperactivation were examined with a computer-aided sperm analysis (CASA) system. Sperm responses to progesterone, assessed as increases in CATSPER current and intercellular Ca2+ concentrations ([Ca2+]i), as well as inducement of penetration ability and acrosome reaction, were examined by means of whole-cell patch-clamp technique, single-sperm [Ca2+]i imaging, penetration into methylcellulose assay and chlortetracycline staining, respectively.Main Results and the Role Of Chance: An infertile man with complete disruption of CATSPER current was identified. This individual has a novel CNV which disrupts one gene copy in the region 43894500-43950000 in chromosome 15 (GRCh37.p13 Primary Assembly, nsv3067119), containing the whole DNA sequence of CATSPER2. This CNV affected the expression of CATSPER2, resulting in dramatically reduced levels of CATSPER2 proteins in the individual's spermatozoa. Although this individual exhibited normal semen parameters, his spermatozoa showed impaired penetration ability, deficient hyperactivation, and did not respond to progesterone, in terms of monovalent current potentiation, [Ca2+]i increase, penetration ability enhancement and acrosome reaction inducement, which may explain the individual's idiopathic infertility.Large Scale Data: N/A.Limitations, Reasons For Caution: Our novel findings require more cases to support the CATSPER2 CNV identified in this study as a common cause of idiopathic male infertility in patients with normal semen parameters. Objective To introduce an innovative surgical technique, transvertebral bone graft and augmentation (TBGA), to and evaluate its clinical efficacy in treating osteoporotic vertebral body compression fractures (VCFs), with balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) as a control. Methods A total of 81 patients with a single-level osteoporotic VCF underwent TBGA (n = 38) or BKP (n = 43) at our hospital between October 2012 and January 2015. The average duration of follow-up period was 27.9 months. The patients were evaluated with plain radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging preoperatively, immediately postoperatively, at 3- and 6-month follow-ups, and every 6 months thereafter. Clinical status was assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and a visual analog scale (VAS). In addition, parameters of anterior vertebral body height (AVBH), kyphosis angle (KA), adjacent segment degeneration (ASD), and complications were also compared between the 2 groups. Results Significant clinical improvements in ODI, VAS scores, AVBH, and KA were seen in both the TBGA and BKP groups after surgery (P < 0.05). However, the differences in improvements in ODI and VAS between the TBGA and BKP groups were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The improvements in AVBH and KA were significantly better in the TBGA group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the rates of ASD and complications were significantly lower in the TBGA group during the follow-up period (P < 0.05). Conclusions TBGA is an effective and safe surgical technique that appears to be a promising alternative to BKP for the surgical treatment of osteoporotic VCFs. The oriental armyworm Mythimna separata (Walker) is a major cereal crop pest, causing severe economic losses worldwide every year. Yet, few studies documented the biological control of M. separata using natural enemies such as egg parasitoids of the genus Trichogramma. To evaluate the possibility of biological control of M. separata eggs at various ages (0-, 1-, 2-, and 3-day old), we compared under laboratory conditions the parasitism, emergence, development, and female progeny (sex ratio) of five Trichogramma species indigenous in China: Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura, T. chilonis Ishii, T. ostriniae Pang & Chen, T. leucaniae Pang & Chen, and T. japonicum Ashmend. All five Trichogramma species parasitized M. separata at all egg ages but showed a preference for younger eggs. T. dendrolimi parasitized 55.1, 36.6, 19.3, and 14.3 hosts in 24 h on 0-, 1-, 2-, and 3-day-old eggs, respectively, and it exhibited the highest parasitism and suitability on all egg ages. T. japonicum showed the lowest parasitism rate and the poorest host acceptance. T. ostriniae, T. leucaniae, and T. chilonis presented similar rates of adult emergence and sex ratio for all M. separata egg ages. T. ostriniae developed significantly slower on 2- and 3-day-old M. separata eggs. With the exception of T. leucaniae, all species showed no difference in adult emergence at all egg ages. T. dendrolimi was identified as the best for biological control of M. separata. In the present study, the function and mechanism of cytokine-induced killer cells (CIK) combined with dendritic cells (DC-CIK) were examined in Lewis lung cancer (LLC) cells. Co-culture of CIK dendritic cells (DC) in vitro was used to investigate their proliferation and the antitumor effects on LLC cells. DC and CIK cells were collected from healthy human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and co-cultured as an experimental group, while LLC cells were cultured alone as a control group. Cell morphology was observed by an inverted microscope and an MTT assay was utilized to detect the proliferation of LLC cells. Expression of 14-3-3ζ and p-Bad were measured by western blot analysis. Compared with the control group, treatment of LLC cells with DC-CIK resulted in decreased cell adherence, reduced cell proliferation and abnormal morphological changes. Additionally, DC-CIK treatment of LLC cells resulted in the decreased expression of 14-3-3ζ and p-Bad protein in LLC cells, which may provide important information pertaining to the possible mechanism of DC-CIK-induced antitumor activity against LLC cells. Adolescents from Mexican immigrant families are often embedded in a challenging social environment and experience multiple contextual stressors, including economic stress, discrimination, and foreigner stress. We consider how the effects of these contextual stressors may be amplified or diminished for adolescents who function as language brokers, interpreting and mediating for their English-limited parents. Using two waves of survey data collected from a sample (N = 604 at Wave 1; N = 483 at Wave 2) of Mexican American adolescents with ages ranging from 11 to 15 (Mage = 12.41, 54% female), four distinct brokering—stress profiles were identified. Latent profile analyses revealed that with moderate levels of contextual stress, adolescents with more positive language brokering experiences (protective group) demonstrated more favorable outcomes than those with neutral language brokering experiences (moderate group) and those who did not involve themselves as frequently in language brokering activities (less-involved group). In contrast, high levels of contextual stress, coupled with more negative language brokering experiences (risk group), produced the least favorable outcomes among adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Context: The tethered cord syndrome (TCS) characterized by urination dysfunction has long been a worldwide clinical problem, of which clinical effects remains controversial.Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical effects of an innovative surgical method for the treatment of TCS.Study Design: This is a retrospective clinical study.Patient Sample: There were 15 patients included in this study.Outcome Measures: The visual analog scale (VAS) and the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores were evaluated. The incidence of complications after surgery was also analyzed.Materials and Methods: A total of 15 patients including 9 men and 6 women with TCS underwent homogeneous spinal-shortening axial decompression (HSAD) from September 2011 to February 2015. The average age at the time of surgery was 38.1±17.7 years. The average postoperative follow-up period was 21.5±7.5 months. The VAS and JOA scores were used to evaluate the clinical effects of the new operational procedure. In addition, the incidence of complications was also recorded and analyzed.Results: The VAS scores decreased from 3.93±2.52 to 1.80±1.21 at the final follow-up after surgery with a significant statistical difference (p=.006). The JOA scores also significantly increased from 9.93±3.43 to 21.20±4.18 at the final follow-up (p<.001). Fourteen cases (93.3%) with bladder dysfunction and 7 cases with sensory dysfunction of the lower limbs (87.5%) had a significant improvement postoperatively. Complications such as infection, pulmonary embolism, nerve injury, and broken rod were not observed during the follow-up period.Conclusions: The operation of HSAD was an effective and safe surgical method for TCS, which can achieve direct decompression of the tethered spinal cord. Parents’ educational aspirations for youth play an important role in shaping youth’s own educational aspirations; however, little is known about how and in what context parents may transmit their aspirations to youth effectively. This is of particular interest and import to be examined in Chinese families, given Chinese cultural emphasis on educational achievement and Chinese youth’s outstanding academic performance internationally. By integrating several key theories of motivation and parental socialization (i.e., the expectancy-value model of academic achievement, the two-step model of value transmission, the contextual model of parenting, and the self-determination theory), the current study investigated simultaneously the mediating roles of parental involvement in youth’s learning and youth’s perceptions of parental aspirations, as well as the moderating role of parental warmth in the intergenerational transmission process of educational aspirations in Chinese families. A two-wave longitudinal study spanning about half a year was conducted among 323 Chinese seventh graders (54% female; Mage = 13.25 years) and one of their parents (median educational attainment = completion of high school, median monthly income = USD 766-1226). It was found that parental educational aspirations for youth were related positively both indirectly through parental involvement and directly to youth’s perceptions of parental aspirations, which in turn were associated positively with youth’s own educational aspirations about half a year later. It was also found that parental educational aspirations for youth and youth’s own educational aspirations were associated positively with each other only when youth reported experiencing high levels of parental warmth, but unrelated when youth reported experiencing low levels of parental warmth, whereas such moderating effects of parental warmth were absent on the links from parental aspirations to youth’s perceptions of parental aspirations and parental involvement. These findings highlight the importance of integrating multiple theories to understand parent-to-youth transmission of educational aspirations in non-western cultures, which helps not only reveal generalizability, as well as boundary conditions for Western-originated theories, but also inform practical endeavors at promoting youth’s educational achievement worldwide to draw on strengths of different cultures. Introduction: The cervical screw placement is one of the most difficult procedures in spine surgery, which often needs a long period of repeated practices and could cause screw placement-related complications. We performed this cadaver study to investigate the effectiveness of virtual surgical training system (VSTS) on cervical pedicle screw instrumentation for residents.Materials and Methods: A total of ten novice residents were randomly assigned to two groups: the simulation training (ST) group (n = 5) and control group (n = 5). The ST group received a surgical training of cervical pedicle screw placement on VSTS and the control group was given an introductory teaching session before cadaver test. Ten fresh adult spine specimens including 6 males and 4 females were collected, and were randomly allocated to the two groups. The bilateral C3-C6 pedicle screw instrumentation was performed in the specimens of the two groups, respectively. After instrumentation, screw positions of the two groups were evaluated by image examinations.Results: There was significantly statistical difference in screw penetration rates between the ST (10%) and control group (62.5%, P < 0.05). The acceptable rates of screws were 100 and 50% in the ST and control groups with significant difference between each other (P < 0.05). In addition, the average screw penetration distance in the ST group (1.12 ± 0.47 mm) was significantly lower than the control group (2.08 ± 0.39 mm, P < 0.05).Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the VSTS as an advanced training tool exhibited promising effects on improving performance of novice residents in cervical pedicle screw placement compared with the traditional teaching methods. The current study examines the longitudinal indirect pathways linking language acculturation to marital quality. Three waves of data were collected from 416 Chinese American couples for 8 years (Mage.wave1 = 48 for husbands, 44 for wives). Actor–partner interdependence model analyses revealed that for both husbands and wives, lower levels of language acculturation were associated with higher levels of stress over being stereotyped as a perpetual foreigner. Individuals' foreigner stress, in turn, was directly related to greater levels of their own and their partners' marital warmth, suggesting that foreigner stress may have some positive relational effects. However, individuals' foreigner stress also was associated with increases in their own depressive symptoms, which predicted higher levels of marital hostility in the partner. Overall, these results underscore the complexity of how language acculturation and foreigner stress relate to marital quality and the importance of considering the interdependence of the marital system. Parents and adolescents often have discrepant views of parenting which pose challenges for researchers regarding how to deal with information from multiple informants. Although recent studies indicate that parent–adolescent discrepancies in reports of parenting can be useful in predicting adolescent outcomes, their findings are mixed regarding whether discrepancies relate to more positive or more negative adolescent outcomes. This study examined the longitudinal implications of parent–adolescent discrepancies in reports of parenting (warmth, monitoring, and reasoning) on adolescent behavioral, psychological, academic, and physical health outcomes among Mexican immigrant families in the United States. Participants were 604 adolescents (54% female, Mage.wave1 = 12.41 years) and their parents. Taking a person-centered approach, this study identified distinct patterns of parent–adolescent discrepancies in parenting and their different associations with later adolescent outcomes. Adolescents’ more negative perceptions of parenting relative to parents were associated with more negative adolescent outcomes, whereas adolescents’ more positive perceptions relative to parents related to more positive adolescent outcomes. There were also variations in discrepancy patterns and their associations with adolescent outcomes between mother–adolescent vs. father-adolescent dyads. Findings of the current study highlight individual variations of discrepancies among parent–adolescent dyads and the importance of considering both the magnitude and direction of discrepancies regarding their associations with adolescent well-being. A real-time self-powered biosensor is designed for ultrasensitive detection of microRNA-21 based on electrochemical energy device capacitor and target-induced recycling double amplification strategy, which greatly improves the output signal by converting a small number of targets into two glucose oxidase labeled output strand DNAs, and the squeezed-out output strand is recycled by the cathode to fix more signal [Ru(NH 3) 6 ]3+ to further improve the detection signal. A digital multimeter (DMM) is connected to computer for real-time displaying the output signal of the self-powered biosensing system, which improves the accuracy of the sensing platform. The sensitivity of the proposed biosensor is 116.15 μA/pM for target microRNA-21, which is 32.26 times higher than that of pure EBFC (3.6 μA/pM). The target concentration is proportional to the open-circuit voltage value in a wide linear range of 0.1–10000 fM with a low detection limit of 0.04 fM (S/N = 3). A novel self-powered biosensor is engineered by the integration of DNAzyme walker and AuNPs/graphdiyne biosensing interface, realizing sensitive detection of target microRNA. The cleverly constructed DNAzyme walker with outstanding signal transduction ability to obtain an amplified signal response. In addition, the AuNPs/graphdiyne significantly improves electron transport speed of biosensing interface for improving the sensitivity of biosensor. A dynamic linear range of 0.05 fM-10 pM with a low detection limit of 0.015 fM (S/N = 3) is obtained by utilizing the self-powered biosensor. Meanwhile, the developed self-powered biosensor is capable of assaying miRNA-21 in human serum samples with satisfactory recoveries. This strategy provides a valid method for the sensitive microRNA detection, and shows great potential in point-care detection of tumor biomarker. Adolescence is a challenging and sensitive developmental period in which mothers and adolescents may be vulnerable to internalizing symptoms. The current study aimed to understand how patterns of changes in mother–adolescent perceived parenting (i.e., mother–adolescent perceived parenting transition profiles) corresponded with trajectories of mothers' and adolescents' internalizing symptoms from early to late adolescence. The current study utilized a three-wave longitudinal data set of 604 adolescents (54% female, Mage = 12.92, SD = 0.92) and 595 mothers (Mage = 38.89, SD = 5.74) from Mexican-origin immigrant families and adopted mother–adolescent perceived parenting transition profiles from a previous study. Multiple group analyses showed that mother–adolescent dyads who agreed on high levels of positive parenting across the course of adolescence (i.e., Stable Both High) experienced the lowest levels of internalizing symptoms, whereas dyads that showed an inconsistent pattern of mixed profile typologies over time (i.e., Fluctuated) experienced high levels of internalizing symptoms. For mother–adolescent dyads that consistently showed a pattern in which mothers reported more positive parenting compared to their adolescent children (i.e., Stable Mother High), mothers experienced low levels of (and even a decrease in) internalizing symptoms, while adolescents experienced considerably high levels of internalizing symptoms over time. The results for the other two parenting transition profiles (i.e., Change to Both High and Change from Both High) are also discussed. The findings highlight the importance of developing separate adaptive interventions to reduce internalizing symptoms for mothers and children by considering their change patterns of perceived parenting during the course of adolescence. Public Significance Statement: There are different change patterns of how mother–adolescent dyads perceive positive parenting practices (e.g., parental warmth) from early to late adolescence, corresponding to varied developmental trajectories of mothers' and adolescents' internalizing symptoms. Mothers and adolescents who are in the same perceived parenting change pattern may experience different trajectories of internalizing symptoms from early to late adolescence. In mother–adolescent dyads where mothers consistently perceived higher levels of positive parenting compared to their adolescents, mothers experienced relatively low levels of internalizing symptoms, which in some cases even decreased over time, while children experienced considerably high levels of internalizing symptoms across the course of adolescence. Egg batches of Spodoptera moths are protected by scales deposited by females around and/or over eggs as a physical defense. These scales may affect the parasitism of some parasitoids, rendering biocontrol of Spodoptera eggs ineffective. In this study, we investigated the daily oviposition pattern of moths and the dynamics of egg mass scales of three Spodoptera species and examined the fitnesses of three potential egg parasitoid species to different egg mass scale thicknesses. The observations revealed that the three Spodoptera species share similar scale dynamics. From initial oviposition, S. exigua egg batches maintained a relatively high level of scale thickness (> 134.7 μm) for 2 days and S. frugiperda and S. litura for 3 days (> 105.9 μm, > 161.2 μm, respectively). During this period, the scales effectively hindered parasitism by Trichogramma species (parasitized 0.4%–14.9% eggs). Thereafter, the thickness of the scales decreased daily. The scales of the three Spodoptera species were all relatively thin (< 20.0 μm) after oviposition for 8 days, and subsequently, Trichogramma parasitized eggs more actively (parasitized up to 33.4%–36.5% eggs). Relatively, Trichogramma dendrolimi on S. frugiperda eggs, and Trichogramma chilonis on S. exigua eggs had higher parasitism. Meanwhile, Telenomus remus maintained a very stable and better performance than Trichogramma on Spodoptera species eggs with different scale thicknesses (parasitized 100% egg masses and 46.2%–60.0% eggs), which demonstrated its excellent potential as a Spodoptera species biocontrol agent. The findings elucidate the effect of egg mass scale thickness on effective parasitism by these egg parasitoid species and provide baseline information for the mixed use of Te. remus and Trichogramma against Spodoptera species. Developing highly active electrocatalysts for photoelectrochemical water splitting is critical to bring solar/electrical-to-hydrogen energy conversion processes into reality. Herein, we report a three-dimensional (3D) hybrid electrocatalyst that is constructed through in situ anchoring of Co9S8 nanosheets onto the surface of Ni3Se2 nanosheets vertically aligned on an electrochemically exfoliated graphene foil. Benefiting from the synergistic effects between Ni3Se2 and Co9S8, the highly conductive graphene support, and large surface area, the novel 3D hybrid electrode delivers superior electrocatalytic activity toward water reduction in alkaline media, featuring overpotentials of −0.17 and −0.23 V to achieve current densities of 20 and 50 mA cm–2, respectively, demonstrating an electrocatalytic performance on the top of the Ni3Se2- and Co9S8-based electrocatalysts as reported in literature. Experimental investigations and theoretical calculations confirm that the remarkable activity of the obtained material results from the unique 3D hierarchical architecture and interface reconstruction between Ni3Se2 and Co9S8 through Ni–S bonding, which leads to charge redistribution and thus lowers the energy barrier of hydrogen desorption in the water splitting process. Further integration of the 3D hybrid electrode with a macroporous silicon photocathode enables highly active and sustainable sunlight-driven water splitting in both basic media and real river water. The overall water splitting with 10 mA cm–2 at a low voltage of 1.62 V is achieved using our hybrid as both anode and cathode catalysts, which surpasses that of the Ir/C–Pt/C couple (1.60 V) for sufficiently high overpotentials. This study aimed to untangle the mixed effects of language brokering by examining a contextual factor (i.e., parent-child alienation) and a personal attribute (i.e., resilience) that may relate to adolescents' feelings during translating (i.e., sense of burden and efficacy) and that may moderate the association between such feelings and adolescent depressive symptoms. Participants included 557 adolescent language brokers (Mage  = 12.96) in Mexican-American families. Results showed that adolescents with a strong sense of alienation from parents or low resilience (a) experienced more burden or less efficacy in translating and (b) were more susceptible to the detrimental effects of feeling a sense of burden and the beneficial effects of experiencing a sense of efficacy, as measured by depressive symptoms. To transfer multiple desirable alien genes into common wheat, we previously reported a new trigeneric hybrid synthesized by crossing a wheat - Thinopyrum intermedium partial amphiploid with wheat - Psathyrostachys huashanica amphiploid. Here, the meiotic behavior, chromosome constitution, and stripe rust resistance of F5 derivatives from the wheat - Th. intermedium - P. huashanica trigeneric hybrid were studied. Cytological analysis indicated the F5 progenies had chromosome numbers of 42-50 (average 44.96). The mean meiotic configuration was 1.28 univalents, 21.74 bivalents, 0.04 trivalents, and 0.02 tetravalents per pollen mother cell. In 2 n = 42 lines, the average pairing configuration was 0.05 I + 19.91 II (ring) + 1.06 II (rod) + 0.003 IV, suggesting these lines were cytologically stable. Most lines with 2 n = 43, 44, 46, 48, or 50, bearing a high frequency of univalents or multivalents, showed abnormal meiotic behavior. Genomic in situ hybridization karyotyping results revealed that 25 lines contained 1-7 Th. intermedium chromosomes, but no P. huashanica chromosomes were found among the 27 self-pollinated progenies. At meiosis, univalents (1-5) possessing Th. intermedium hybridization signals were detected in 19 lines. Bivalents (1-3) expressing fluorescence signals were observed in 12 lines. Importantly, 21 lines harbored wheat - Th. intermedium chromosomal translocations with various alien translocation types. Additionally, two homozygous lines, K13-668-10 and K13-682-12, possessed a pair of wheat - Th. intermedium small fragmental translocations. Compared with the recurrent parent Zhong 3, most lines showed high resistance to the stripe rust ( Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici) pathogens prevalent in China, including race V26/Gui22. This paper reports a highly efficient technical method for inducing alien translocation between wheat and Th. intermedium by trigeneric hybridization. We report herein a nonpeptide-based small-molecule probe for fluorogenic and chromogenic detection of chymotrypsin, as well as the primary application for this probe. This probe was rationally designed by mimicking the peptide substrate and optimized by adjusting the recognition group. The refined probe 2 exhibits good specificity toward chymotrypsin, producing about 25-fold higher enhancement in both the fluorescence intensity and absorbance upon the catalysis by chymotrypsin. Compared with the most widely used peptide substrate (AMC-FPAA-Suc) of chymotrypsin, probe 2 shows about 5-fold higher binding affinity and comparable catalytical efficiency against chymotrypsin. Furthermore, it was successfully applied for the inhibitor characterization. To the best of our knowledge, probe 2 is the first nonpeptide-based small-molecule probe for chymotrypsin, with the advantages of simple structure and high sensitivity compared to the widely used peptide-based substrates. Tetraploid wheat (AABB or AAGG, 2 n = 4 x = 28) holds an important place in Triticum . It includes two allopolyploid species, Triticum turgidum and Triticum timopheevii . Many problems concerning the phylogenetic relationships among tetraploid wheat species remain unresolved. In this study, sequences data for the nuclear DMC1 gene from 61 accessions of Triticum and Aegilops species, representing diploid and tetraploid species, were used to examine the phylogenetic relationships among tetraploid wheat. Phylogenetic trees were constructed using maximum-likelihood and neighbor-joining approaches, and gene flow and genetic differentiation values were computed. The results indicated that the A genome of tetraploid wheat originated from T. urartu rather than T. monococcum , and Aegilops speltoides was the donor of the B and G genomes. Hulled tetraploid wheat accessions formed a subclade, and naked tetraploid wheat got other subclade, indicating that at least two intermediary subspecies were involved in the evolution of T. turgidum . Triticum turgidum and T. timopheevii might have simultaneously originated from a hybridization events. These results indicated that the DMC1 gene sequences are useful for resolution of the molecular phylogenetic relationships of tetraploid wheat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work presents a novel, fast and simple monitoring-responding method at the very early stages of membrane bio-fouling in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) during saline wastewater treatment. The impacts of multiple environmental shocks on membrane fouling were studied. The transmembrane pressure exceeded the critical fouling pressure within 8 days in the case of salinity shock or temperature shock. In the case of DO shock, the transmembrane pressure exceeded the critical fouling pressure after 16 days, showing the lower impact of DO shock on the MBR. In another study, the membrane fouling was observed within 4 days responding to mixed environmental shocks. To decrease the potential of membrane bio-fouling, another bioreactor was integrated immediately with the MBR as a quickly-responded countermeasure, when an early warning of membrane bio-fouling was provided. Parental discriminatory experiences can have significant implications for adolescent adjustment. This study examined family processes linking parental perceived discrimination to adolescent depressive symptoms and delinquent behaviors by using the family stress model and incorporating family systems theory. Participants were 444 Chinese American adolescents (Mage.wave1  = 13.03) and their parents residing in Northern California. Testing of actor-partner interdependent models showed a significant indirect effect from earlier paternal (but not maternal) perceived discrimination to later adolescent adjustment through paternal depressive symptoms and maternal hostility toward adolescents. The results highlight the importance of including both parents and examining actor and partner effects to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how maternal and paternal perceived discrimination differentially and indirectly relate to adolescent adjustment. A highly sensitivity self-powered biosensor is developed based on T7 exonuclease (T7 Exo) and 3D DNA walker induced rolling circle amplification (RCA) for electrochemical/colorimetric dual-mode detection of microRNA-21 (miRNA-21) with improved reliability. Taking its advantage of fascinating properties, such as high structure defects and good conductivity, graphdiyne is prepared and used to prepare high-performance enzyme biofuel cell. T7 Exo-assisted 3D DNA walker target recognition triggers RCA reaction to obtain a significantly amplified signal response. A capacitor is integrated to the enzyme biofuel cell to further amplify the electrochemical output signal of the self-powered biosensor. In detection system, glucose oxidase catalyzes glucose oxidation to produce hydrogen peroxide, and 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) is then catalyzed to generate colored products, so as to achieve the colorimetric detection of the target. Analysis signals of diverse modes are recorded independently. Consequently, detection of microRNA with improved reliability and wider signal response range are achieved by electrochemical/colorimetric dual-mode with detection limits of 0.15 and 33 fM (S/N = 3) respectively. In addition, the proposed self-powered biosensor successfully applied for the detection of miRNA-21 in human serum samples, confirming its practical applicability in clinical diagnosis. In order to correctly understand the bearing capacity, failure mode and failure mechanism of AlSi10Mg porous optimized structures at different strain rates under compressive load, a series of experimental and simulative studies were carried out. Through quasi-static and modified Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) experiments, the damage failure modes of the AlSi10Mg porous structures with three different volume fractions are obtained at different strain rates. The stress-strain curves of AlSi10Mg porous structures obtained from the experimental results at different high strain rates show that its mechanical behavior is not sensitive to strain rates. Combined with meso-structure analysis and high-precision numerical simulation, it is found that the shear failure of AlSi10Mg porous structures due to relative dislocation along the inclined section under axial compressive load is the most direct cause of failure, which reveals its failure mechanism. Combining experimental research and theoretical analysis, the energy absorption characteristics and influencing factors of AlSi10Mg porous structures are determined at different strain rates. At the same time, the prediction models of dynamic elastic modulus and dynamic compressive strength of AlSi10Mg porous structures are constructed, which accurately describe the variation law between dynamic elastic modulus, dynamic compressive strength and structural volume fractions. It is important to understand the acculturation process of ethnic minority youth: To which cultures do they orient, and how do their cultural orientations develop? The present study tests a tridimensional acculturation model in Chinese American families and examines a potential mechanism through which parental cultural orientations may relate to adolescent cultural orientations. Participants were 350 Chinese American adolescents ( M = 17.04, 58 % female) and their parents in Northern California. Results support the tridimensional acculturation model by demonstrating moderate associations among Chinese American orientation, Chinese orientation, and American orientation; our findings also point to a unique effect of parental Chinese American orientation on parental bicultural socialization beliefs. Most importantly, we identified an indirect pathway from parental to adolescents' Chinese American orientation through adolescents' internalization of parental bicultural socialization beliefs.
