Cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) combined with SIP has not been reported thus far.Case Presentation: A 55-year-old woman was diagnosed with cervical SCC in our center and treated with concurrent radiochemotherapy. During the follow-up period after the completion of cervical cancer treatment, the progression of cervical squamous cell carcinoma was first considered because the squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) levels remained high and slowly increased. However, SIP was found after a detailed investigation. The SCCA levels returned to normal after surgery. Two months after the surgery, because SCCA slowly increased again, it was found that the SIP recurred. After additional surgical treatment, the SCCA level returned to normal.Discussion and Conclusion: First, SCCA is an important indicator for monitoring changes in cervical SCC. When the changes in SCCA levels are inconsistent with the prognosis of cervical SCC, we should be vigilant about considering the possibility of other diseases existing at other sites in the body, which might lead to the earlier detection and treatment of SIP. Second, We recommended that SCCA be used as a routine monitoring index for SIP. If available, SCCA1 and SCCA2 should be evaluated to provide a more detailed assessment. Finally, for a high recurrence rate of SIP, anti-HPV treatment might be considered to reduce the risk of recurrence.Keywords: cervical squamous cell carcinoma, inverted papilloma, squamous cell carcinoma antigen, human papilloma virus

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the characteristics of the patient-practitioner relationship desired by overweight/obese individuals in weight management. The aim was to identify characteristics of the relationship which empower patients to make lifestyle changes. METHODS: Grounded theory was used inductively to build a model of the patient-practitioner relationship based on the perspectives of 21 overweight/obese adults. RESULTS: Emerging from the match between patient and practitioner characteristics, collaboration was the key process explicitly occurring in the patient-practitioner relationship, and was characterised by two subcategories; perceived power dimensions and openness. Trust emerged implicitly from the collaborative process, being fostered by relational, informational, and credible aspects of the interaction. Patient trust in their practitioner consequently led to empowering outcomes including goal ownership and perceiving the utility of changes. CONCLUSION: An appropriate match between patient and practitioner characteristics facilitates collaboration which leads to trust, both of which appear to precede empowering outcomes for patients such as goal ownership and perceiving the utility of changes. Collaboration is an explicit process and precedes the patient trusting their practitioner. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Practitioners should be sensitive to patient preferences for collaboration and the opportunity to develop trust with patients relationally, through information provision, and modelling a healthy lifestyle. Lysosomes regulate cellular metabolism to maintain cell survival, but the mechanisms whereby they determine neuronal cell fate after acute metabolic stress are unknown. Neuron-enriched lysosomal membrane protein LAMP2A is involved in selective chaperone-mediated autophagy and exosome loading. This study demonstrates that abnormalities in the neuronal LAMP2A-lysosomal pathway cause neurological deficits following ischemic stroke and that this is an early inducer of the PANoptosis-like molecular pathway and neuroinflammation, simultaneously inducing upregulation of FADD, RIPK3, and MLKL after ischemia. Quantitative proteomic and pharmacological analysis showed that after acute metabolic stress, the neuronal LAMP2A pathway induced acute synaptic degeneration and PANoptosis-like responses involving downregulation of protein kinase A (PKA) signaling. LAMP2A directed post-stroke lysosomal degradation of adenylyl cyclases (ADCY), including ADCY1 and ADCY3 in cortical neurons. Post-stroke treatment with cAMP mimetic or ADCY activator salvaged cortical neurons from PANoptosis-like responses and neuroinflammation, suggesting that the neuronal ADCY-cAMP-PKA axis is an upstream arrester of the pathophysiological process following an ischemic stroke. Indigenous populations have experienced inequality of accessing mental health services compared with their non-Indigenous counterparts, although the way of measuring mental health service accessibility for Indigenous populations is unclear. This systematic review examines measures of mental health service accessibility for Indigenous people, including the diversity of mental health services that are available to them and the barriers to accessing mental healthcare. Using a systematic search procedure, we identified 27 studies that explored Indigenous populations' mental health service access. Our review shows that 18 studies used interview-based methods to explore how Indigenous people use mental health services, and only nine studies used quantitative methods to measure the uptake of mental health services. While advanced methods for quantifying geographical access to healthcare services are widely available, these methods have not been applied in the current literature to explore the potential access to mental health services by Indigenous populations. This is partially due to limited understanding of how Indigenous populations seek mental healthcare, barriers that prevent Indigenous people from accessing diverse types of mental health services, and scarcity of data that are available to researchers. Future research could focus on developing methods to support spatially explicit measuring of accessibility to mental health services for Indigenous populations., Competing Interests: Declarations. Survival is one of the foremost endpoints in cancer therapy, and parametric survival analysis could comprehensively demonstrate the overall result of various different baseline and longitudinal factors. In this study, the survival of triple negative breast cancer 4T1 tumor-bearing mice treated by gemcitabine (GEM) and dexamethasone (DEX) was investigated with model-based analysis. The tumor size, lymphocyte (LY) and neutrophil (NE) of 4T1 tumor-bearing BALB/c mice were collected, and the PK/PD models of these longitudinal data were established in a sequential manner, respectively. The parametric time-to-event (TTE) model of survival was developed and the PK/PD models were tested and integrated as time-varying prognostic factors. The final model was evaluated and externally validated. LY and NE influence the survival directly, while tumor size showed its indirect impact on survival by affecting LY. The exposure of GEM significantly improved the survival results but DEX did not bring extra benefit. The models established in this study quantitatively characterized the abnormal increasing of LY and NE due to tumor progression in T1 tumor-bearing mice and also demonstrate their relationship with survival outcomes, and further provide a modeling framework to demonstrate potential prognostic factors of survival and evaluate the efficacy of different therapies., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024. The international tertiary education sector was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to the risk of negative learning and psychosocial experiences. Most international students who remained in the host countries demonstrated admirable resilience and adaptability during those challenging times. An integrative review of factors shaping international students' learning and mental wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic was conducted. Five electronic databases-CINAHL, MEDLINE, ProQuest, PsycINFO, and Web of Science-were searched from 2020 to 2023 using the key search terms 'international students', 'tertiary education', 'mental health and wellbeing', and 'COVID'. A total of 38 studies were included in this review. They revealed six factors across learning and psychosocial experiences. Predisposing factors for maladjustments included the students being younger and possessing poor English proficiency. Precipitating factors were related to online teaching/learning, and lack of accessibility and or insufficient learning and living resources. Perpetuating factors pertained to living arrangements. The protective factor identified was institutional support. This review highlighted that multifaceted factors were associated with international students' experiences and mental health and wellbeing. In-depth understanding of risk and protective factors can help policymakers to prepare for unprecedented challenges and reduce disruptions to international students' education and mental health when studying abroad.

In recent years, due to the abuse of antibiotics, nitro explosives and pesticides, which have caused great harm to the environment and human health, social concerns have prompted researchers to develop more sensitive detection platforms for these pollutants. In this paper, a novel two-dimensional Zn (II) coordination polymer, [Zn(L) 0.5 (1,2-bimb)]·DMF (1), [H 4 L=[1,1':4',1''-terphenyl]-2, 2'',4, 4'' -tetracarboxylic acid, 1,2-bimb = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene] was synthesized using a hydro-solvothermal method. Among commonly used organic solvents, 1 exhibits significant stability. Fast and efficient fluorescence response can be achieved for tetracycline (TET), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), fluazinam (FLU), and abamectin benzoate (AMB) with low detection limits. A binary intelligent logic gate device with FLU and AMB as chemical input signals is successfully constructed, which provides a new idea for biochemical detection. In addition, a portable visual test paper has been prepared, which has high sensitivity, good selectivity, and simple operation. It can be used for rapid detection of pollutants in daily life and has broad application prospects. Eye drops are envisaged as the most promising non-invasive formulation for the treatment of the ocular posterior segment diseases, while it is hindered by a series of complex ocular barriers, both static and dynamic in nature. In this context, we propose a single molecule nanomedicine based on host-guest chemistry to achieve highly efficient drug delivery targeted to ocular posterior segment. Sulfonated azocalix[4]arene (SAC4A) serves as the single molecule carrier, owing the multiple features of small size (24.0 Å in length, 21.2 Å in width, 14.8 Å in height with a Van der Waals volume of 930 Å 3 ), negative charge, hydrophilicity, loading universality and hypoxia-triggered release. As a proof-of-concept, an eye drop formed by the complexation of SAC4A with sunitinib (SUN) is prepared to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD). SAC4A successfully transports SUN to the ocular posterior segment (the amount of SUN reaching the retinal-choroid tissue in the SUN@SAC4A group was 2.47 times larger than that in the SUN group at 30 min), significantly enhancing its anti-choroidal neoangiogenesis effect of SUN to wAMD, which played a key role in the treatment. This study aims to identify the main chemical compounds, investigate the effects of different drying methods on the quality, and determine the appropriate drying method of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. UPLC-UV-Q-TOF-MS was employed to characterize and identify 35 main compounds, including phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, and iridoids in Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. A method for the simultaneous determination of 8 compounds with strong UV absorption and high content was established to evaluate the quality of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium dried by different methods. UPLC-UV-Q-TOF-MS combined with principal component analysis(PCA) was employed to compare the Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium samples treated by microwave drying at different power(119, 231, and 385 W), drying in the shade, sun drying, and oven drying at different temperatures(50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 ℃). The total content of decaffeoyl acteoside, picroside Ⅲ, galuteolin, forsythin B, acteoside, isoacteoside, 6-hydroxyluteolin-7-glucoside, and caffeic acid in Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium, as well as the content of most compounds, decreased with the rise in drying temperature and with the decrease in microwave power. Considering the content of compounds, low carbon, and energy saving, microwave drying at 231 W, low-temperature drying, or natural drying is recommended for the production of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. This study provides a scientific basis for the selection of drying methods for Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium at the place of origin and for the improvement of quality standards.

Background: The incidence of discharge against medical advice (DAMA) in emergency departments (EDs) among Indigenous people is a growing concern in Australia. This study aimed to determine the incidence of ED DAMA in public hospitals in Queensland (QLD) from 2016 to 2021 and investigate the disparities in ED DAMA between Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients. The study also assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of ED DAMA., Methods: A descriptive epidemiological study was conducted using aggregated data from QLD public hospital EDs. The data was retrieved from Clinical Excellence QLD, Healthcare Improvement Unit, in the QLD Health Open Data Portal for the period 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2021. Incidence rates and unadjusted odds ratios were calculated and compared using the chi-square test to identify differences between Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients., Results: The annual incidence of DAMA in EDs was 7.7% among Indigenous patients, compared to 4.8% among non-Indigenous patients, with the highest rate (8.9%) reported in 2021 among Indigenous patients. The incidence of ED DAMA was higher for Indigenous patients in major cities (20.0%) than in very remote areas (7.4%). Patients in triage categories 4 (10.0%) and 3 (7.3%) accounted for the vast majority of ED DAMA events among Indigenous patients. The acute group A hospitals had the highest incidence of ED DAMA (10.9% for Indigenous patients and 6.5% for non-Indigenous patients). The COVID-19 pandemic had no impact on the incidence of ED DAMA., Conclusion: Indigenous patients experience a disparity in ED DAMA incidence. Aim: To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the influence of hypoxia and alpha-ketoglutaric acid (α-KG) on scleral collagen expression., Methods: Meta-analysis and clinical statistics were used to prove the changes in choroidal thickness (ChT) during myopia. The establishment of a hypoxic myopia model (HYP) for rabbit scleral fibroblasts through hypoxic culture and the effects of hypoxia and α-KG on collagen expression were demonstrated by Sirius red staining. Transcriptome analysis was used to verify the genes and pathways that hypoxia and α-KG affect collagen expression. Finally, real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used for reverse verification., Results: Meta-analysis results aligned with clinical statistics, revealing a thinning of ChT, leading to scleral hypoxia. Sirius red staining indicated lower collagen expression in the HYP group and higher collagen expression in the HYP+α-KG group, showed that hypoxia reduced collagen expression in scleral fibroblasts, while α-KG can elevated collagen expression under HYP conditions. Transcriptome analysis unveiled the related genes and signaling pathways of hypoxia and α-KG affect scleral collagen expression and the results were verified by RT-qPCR., Conclusion: The potential molecular mechanisms through which hypoxia and α-KG influencing myopia is unraveled and three novel genes TLCD4 , TBC1D4 , and EPHX3 are identified. Stroke stands as the second leading cause of death globally, surpassed only by ischemic heart disease. It accounts for 9% of total worldwide deaths. Given the swiftly evolving landscape, medical professionals and researchers are devoting increased attention to identifying more effective and safer treatments. Recent years have witnessed a focus on exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells cultivated under hypoxic conditions, referred to as Hypo-Exo. These specialized exosomes contain an abundance of components that facilitate the restoration of ischemic tissue, surpassing the content found in normal exosomes. Despite advancements, the precise role of Hypo-Exo in cases of cerebral ischemia remains enigmatic. Therefore, this study was designed to shed light on the potential efficacy of Hypo-Exo in stroke treatment. Our investigations unveiled promising outcomes, as the administration of Hypo-Exo led to improved behavioral deficits and reduced infarct areas in mice affected by ischemic conditions. Notably, these positive effects were hindered when Hypo-Exo loaded with anti-miR-214-3p were introduced, implying that the neuroprotective attributes of Hypo-Exo are reliant on miR-214-3p. This conclusion was substantiated by the high levels of miR-214-3p detected within Hypo-Exo. Furthermore, our examination of the ischemic penumbra zone revealed a gradual and sustained escalation in PTEN expression, a phenomenon effectively countered by Hypo-Exo treatment. Collectively, our findings suggest the existence of a regulatory pathway centered on miR-214-3p within Hypo-Exo. This pathway exerts a downregulating influence on the PTEN/Akt signaling pathway, thereby contributing to the amelioration of neurological function subsequent to ischemia-reperfusion events., (© 2024. Bioenergy decline occurs with reperfusion following acute ischemic stroke. However, the molecular mechanisms that limit energy metabolism and their impact on post-stroke cognitive and emotional complications are still unclear. In the present study, we demonstrate that the p53 transcriptional response is responsible for neuronal adenosine triphosphate (ATP) deficiency and progressively neuropsychiatric disturbances, involving the downregulation of mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channels (VDACs). Neuronal p53 transactivated the promoter of microRNA-183 (miR-183) cluster, thereby upregulating biogenesis of miR-183-5p (miR-183), miR-96-5p (miR-96), and miR-182-5p. Both miR-183 and miR-96 directly targeted and post-transcriptionally suppressed VDACs. Neuronal ablation of p53 protected against ATP deficiency and neurological deficits, whereas post-stroke rescue of miR-183/VDAC signaling reversed these benefits. Interestingly, cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) was found to be enriched in cortical neurons and upregulated the p53-induced transcription of the miR-183 cluster in neurons after ischemia. Post-treatment with the CDK9 inhibitor oroxylin A promoted neuronal ATP production mainly through suppressing the miR-183 cluster/VDAC axis, further improved long-term sensorimotor abilities and spatial memory, and alleviated depressive-like behaviors in mice following stroke. Our findings reveal an intrinsic CDK9/p53/VDAC pathway that drives neuronal bioenergy decline and underlies post-stroke cognitive impairment and depression, thus highlighting the therapeutic potential of oroxylin A for better outcomes., (© 2024. The aim of this study was to explore and document the enablers and barriers of chiropractic care colocation in general practice at a large-scale private primary care centre in Australia. This study focused on the perceptions of healthcare professionals regarding this integration. The research setting was a large integrated primary care centre located in an outer metro, low-socioeconomic area in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Participant inclusion criteria included general medical practitioners, practice nurses, and medical managers who self-reported interactions with the physically collocated and integrated chiropractic practice. Data was collected from 22 participants using face-to-face, qualitative, semi-structured interviews with an average duration of 32 min. The data collected included perceptions of chiropractic treatment, enablers to patient referral pathways, and views of the integrated chiropractic care model. A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted on the data set. All participants reported that this was their first exposure to the colocation of a chiropractor within a general medical practice. Four key enablers of chiropractic care integration were identified: (1) the practitioner [chiropractor], (2) the organisation [general practice], (3) consumer flow, and (4) the environment [shared spaces and tenant ecosystem]. The chiropractic integration enhanced knowledge sharing and interprofessional trust among healthcare providers. The formal reporting of patient outcomes and understanding of the chiropractor's scope of practice further enabled referrals to the service. Shared administrative and business processes, including patient records, booking systems, and clinical meetings, facilitated relationship development between the chiropractor and referring health providers. Colocation as part of a larger primary care centre created proximity and convenience for health providers in terms of interprofessional communication, and for patients, in terms of access to chiropractic services. Existing governance structures supported communication, professional education, and shared values related to the delivery of patient-centred care. Identified barriers included limited public funding for chiropractic services resulting in reduced access for patients of low-socioeconomic status. Additionally, scepticism or negativity towards the discipline of chiropractic care was identified as an initial barrier to refer patients. In most cases, this view towards the chiropractor was overcome by regular patient reporting of positive treatment outcomes to their GP, the delivery of education sessions by the chiropractor for the health providers, and the development of interprofessional trust between the chiropractor and referring health providers. This study provides preliminary evidence and a conceptual framework of factors influencing the successful integration of chiropractic care within an Australian large primary care centre. The data collected indicated that integration of chiropractic care into a primary care centre serving a low-socioeconomic region can be achieved with a high degree of health provider satisfaction.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an acute respiratory infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 infection typically presents with fever and respiratory symptoms, which can progress to severe respiratory distress syndrome and multiple organ failure. In severe cases, these complications may even lead to death. One of the causes of COVID-19 deaths is the cytokine storm caused by an overactive immune response. Therefore, suppressing the overactive immune response may be an effective strategy for treating COVID-19. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their derived exosomes (MSCs-Exo) have potent homing abilities, immunomodulatory functions, regenerative repair, and antifibrotic effects, promising an effective tool in treating COVID-19. In this paper, we review the main mechanisms and potential roles of MSCs and MSCs-Exo in treating COVID-19. The metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) method is preferred for genotyping useful for the identification of organisms, illumination of metabolic pathways, and determination of microbiota. It can accurately obtain all the nucleic acid information in the test sample. Anthrax is one of the most important zoonotic diseases, infecting mainly herbivores and occasionally humans. The disease has four typical clinical forms, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, inhalation, and injection, all of which may result in sepsis or meningitis, with cutaneous being the most common form. Here, we report a case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS in a butcher. Histopathology of a skin biopsy revealed PAS-positive bacilli. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sample was confirmed the diagnosis of anthrax by mNGS. He was cured with intravenous penicillin. To our knowledge, this is the first case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS using FFPE tissue. mNGS is useful for identifying pathogens that are difficult to diagnose with conventional methods, and FFPE samples are simple to manage. Purpose: To investigate the effect of the interval between bilateral cochlear implantation on the development of bilateral peripheral auditory pathways as revealed by the electrically evoked auditory brainstem response (EABR)., Methods: Fifty-eight children with profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss were recruited. Among them, 33 children received sequential bilateral cochlear implants (CIs), and 25 children received simultaneous bilateral CIs. The bilateral EABRs evoked by electrical stimulation from the CI electrode were recorded on the day of second-side CI activation., Results: The latencies of wave III (eIII) and wave V (eV) were significantly shorter on the first CI side than on the second CI side in children with sequential bilateral CIs but were similar between the two sides in children with simultaneous bilateral CIs. Background: Neuroinflammation is responsible for neuropsychiatric dysfunction following acute brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. This study describes how a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PHD) inhibitor FG-4592 prevents the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute neuroinflammation in microglia., Methods: The distribution of FG-4592 in mouse brain tissues was determined by collision-induced dissociation tandem mass spectrometry. Microglial activation in the hippocampus was analyzed by immunofluorescence. Moreover, we determined the activation of HIF-1 and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathways, proinflammatory responses using molecular biological techniques. Transcriptome sequencing and BNIP3 silencing were conducted to explore signaling pathway and molecular mechanisms underlying FG-4592 anti-inflammatory activity., Results: FG-4592 was transported into the brain tissues and LPS increased its transportation. FG-4592 promoted the expression of HIF-1α and induced the downstream gene transcription in the hippocampus. Administration with FG-4592 significantly inhibited microglial hyperactivation and decreased proinflammatory cytokine levels following LPS treatment in the hippocampus. The LPS-induced inflammatory responses and the NF-κB signaling pathway were also downregulated by FG-4592 pretreatment in microglial cells. Mechanistically, Venn diagram analysis of transcriptomic changes of BV2 cells identified that BNIP3 was a shared and common differentially expressed gene among different treatment groups. FG-4592 markedly upregulated the protein levels of BNIP3 in microglia. Importantly, BNIP3 knockdown aggravated the LPS-stimulated inflammatory responses and partially reversed the protection of FG-4592 against microglial inflammatory signaling and microglial activation in the mouse hippocampus., Conclusions: FG-4592 alleviates neuroinflammation through facilitating microglial HIF-1/BNIP3 signaling pathway in mice. Background: Migration is a strategy that shifts insects to more favorable habitats in response to deteriorating local environmental conditions. The ecological factors that govern insect migration are poorly understood for many species. Plutella xylostella causes great losses in Brassica vegetable and oilseed crops, and undergoes mass migration. However, the physiological and behavioral basis for distinguishing migratory individuals and the factors driving its migration remain unclear., Results: Daily light trap catches conducted from April to July in a field population of P. xylostella in central China revealed a sharp decline in abundance from late-May. Analysis of ovarian development levels showed that the proportion of sexually immature females gradually increased, while the mating rate decreased, indicating that generations occurring in May mainly resulted from local breeding and that emigration began in late-May. Physiological and behavioral analyses revealed that emigrant populations had a higher take-off proportion, stronger flight capacity and greater energy reserves of triglyceride compared to residents. Furthermore, a gradual increase in temperature from 24 °C to >30 °C during larval development resulted in a significant delay in oogenesis and increased take-off propensity of adults compared with the control treatment reared at a constant temperature of 24 °C., Conclusion: Our results provide the physiological and behavioral factors that underpin mass migration in P. xylostella, and demonstrate that exposure to increased temperature increases their migration propensity at the cost of reproductive output. Over the past decades, many forests have been converted to monoculture plantations, which might affect the soil microbial communities that are responsible for governing the soil biogeochemical processes. Understanding how reforestation efforts alter soil prokaryotic microbial communities will therefore inform forest management. In this study, the prokaryotic communities were comparatively investigated in a secondary Chinese fir forest (original) and a reforested Chinese fir plantation (reforested from a secondary Chinese fir forest) in Southern China. The results showed that reforestation changed the structure of the prokaryotic community: the relative abundances of important prokaryotic families in soil. This might be caused by the altered soil pH and organic matter content after reforestation. Soil profile layer depth was an important factor as the upper layers had a higher diversity of prokaryotes than the lower ones ( p < 0.05). The composition of the prokaryotic community presented a seasonality characteristic. In addition, the results showed that the dominant phylum was Acidobacteria (58.86%) with Koribacteraceae (15.38%) as the dominant family in the secondary Chinese fir forest and the reforested plantation. Furthermore, soil organic matter, total N, hydrolyzable N, and NH 4 + - N were positively correlated with prokaryotic diversity ( p < 0.05). Also, organic matter and NO 3 - - N were positively correlated to prokaryotic abundance ( p < 0.05). This study demonstrated that re-forest transformation altered soil properties, which lead to the changes in microbial composition. The changes in microbial community might in turn influence biogeochemical processes and the environmental variables. Anxiety and depression are frequently observed in patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia (TN), but neural circuits and mechanisms underlying this association are poorly understood. Here, we identified a dedicated neural circuit from the ventral hippocampus (vHPC) to the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) that mediates TN-related anxiodepression. We found that TN caused an increase in excitatory synaptic transmission from vHPC CaMK2A neurons to mPFC inhibitory neurons marked by the expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). Activation of CRH + neurons subsequently led to feed-forward inhibition of layer V pyramidal neurons in the mPFC via activation of the CRH receptor 1 (CRHR1). Inhibition of the vHPC CaMK2A -mPFC CRH circuit ameliorated TN-induced anxiodepression, whereas activating this pathway sufficiently produced anxiodepressive-like behaviors. Thus, our studies identified a neural pathway driving pain-related anxiodepression and a molecular target for treating pain-related psychiatric disorders.

Objectives: Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a noninvasive marker of atherosclerosis, a typical pathologic process underlying cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). It is essential to explore the relationships between weight loss and the reduction of CIMT., Study Design: This was an updated systematic review and meta-analysis., Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted to collect relevant clinical trials. The pooled results of meta-analyses were assessed by weighted mean difference (WMD) and the corresponding 95 % confidence interval (95% CI)., Results: Thirty-three articles involving 2273 participants were collected in this meta-analysis. Among all participants with obesity, the pooled mean of weight loss was -23.26 kg (95% CI: -27.71 to -18.81), and the pooled mean change of CIMT was -0.06 mm (95% CI: -0.08 to -0.04). Compared with Non-surgical interventions, Surgical ones could lead to much higher weight loss (P between groups < 0.001). A more significant CIMT reduction was identified among Surgical intervention patients than among Non-surgical intervention participants (P between groups < 0.001)., Conclusions: Effective interventions, especially Surgical interventions, could reduce the weight of patients with obesity, followed by the decline of CIMT, which might further disturb atherosclerosis progression and lower CVD risk., (Copyright © 2023 The Royal Society for Public Health. Background: When tying knots, some surgeons do not pay particular attention to the direction in which they pull to lay down throws. We examine to what extent does pulling direction influence on knot security., Methods: A total of 368 residents were instructed to tie knots with from 2 to 7 throws using silk braided suture in 3-0 gauge. The direction in which they pulled to lay down throws was recorded. Only the knots tied either by pulling in alternate directions (Group A) or in constant direction (Group C) from the first throw to the last were involved in statistical analysis. Tensile strength and untying rate of the knots were then measured for comparative analysis., Results: For knots with from 2 to 7 throws, the tensile strength of the ones from Group A was significantly higher than that of the ones from Group C (p < 0.05), respectively. For knots with from 5 to 7 throws, the untying rate of the ones from Group A was significantly lower than that of the ones from Group C (p < 0.05), respectively. For the unraveled knots with from 2 to 7 throws (except for the ones with 5 throws), the tensile strength of the ones from Group A was significantly higher than that of the ones from Group C (p < 0.05), respectively., Conclusion: Pulling in constant direction results in inferior knot security. The current strategies for the treatment of vitiligo using phototherapy usually involve treatment for two-three times per week; however, in practice, the number of patient sessions does not meet this standard. The present study found that phototherapy once a week was also effective. The present study was designed to examine the efficacy of weekly light therapy. For this purpose, 296 patients with vitiligo were included and divided into five sub-samples of the neck, face, trunk, extremities and scalp according to the site of phototherapy, and were treated once or twice weekly with phototherapy. The difference in efficacy between phototherapy performed once and twice weekly was observed using a Chi-squared test. It was concluded that there was a minimal difference between phototherapy performed twice weekly compared to once weekly for the treatment of vitiligo on the face, neck, torso, limbs and scalp. Following surgery, over 50% of cardiac surgery patients report anxiety, stress and/or depression, with at least 10% meeting clinical diagnoses, which can persist for more than a year. Psychological distress predicts post-surgery health outcomes for cardiac patients. Therefore, post-operative distress represents a critical recovery challenge affecting both physical and psychological health. Despite some research identifying key personal, social, and health service correlates of patient distress, a review or synthesis of this evidence remains unavailable. Understanding these factors can facilitate the identification of high-risk patients, develop tailored support resources and interventions to support optimum recovery. This narrative review synthesises evidence from 39 studies that investigate personal, social, and health service predictors of post-surgery psychological distress among cardiac patients. The following factors predicted lower post-operative distress: participation in pre-operative education, cardiac rehabilitation, having a partner, happier marriages, increased physical activity, and greater social interaction. Conversely, increased pain and functional impairment predicted greater distress. The role of age, and sex in predicting distress is inconclusive. Understanding several factors is limited by the inability to carry out experimental manipulations for ethical reasons (e.g., pain). Future research would profit from addressing key methodological limitations and exploring the role of self-efficacy, pre-operative distress, and pre-operative physical activity. It is recommended that cardiac patients be educated pre-surgery and attend cardiac rehabilitation to decrease distress.

MAP4K1 has been identified as a cancer immunotherapy target. Whether and how cancer cell-intrinsic MAP4K1 contributes to glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) progression remains unclear. We found that MAP4K1 was highly expressed in the glioma cells of human GBM specimens. High levels of MAP4K1 mRNA were prevalent in IDH -WT and 1p/19q non-codeletion gliomas and correlated with poor prognosis of patients. MAP4K1 silencing inhibited GBM cell proliferation and glioma growth. Transcriptome analysis of GBM cells and patient samples showed that MAP4K1 modulated cytokine‒cytokine receptor interactions and chemokine signaling pathway, including IL-18R and IL-6R Importantly, MAP4K1 loss down-regulated membrane-bound IL-18R/IL-6R by inhibiting the PI3K-AKT pathway, whereas MAP4K1 restoration rescued this phenotype and therefore GBM cell proliferation. MAP4K1 deficiency abolished GBM cell pro-proliferation responses to IL-18, suggesting an oncogenic role of MAP4K1 via the intrinsic IL-18/IL-18R pathway. In addition, GBM cell-derived MAP4K1 impaired T-cell migration and reduced CD8 + T-cell infiltration in mouse glioma models. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is critical for both the sensory and emotional/cognitive components of pain. However, the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, we examined changes in the transcriptomic profiles in the mPFC of mice with chronic pain using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology. A mouse model of peripheral neuropathic pain was established via chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve. CCI mice developed sustained mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia, as well as cognitive impairment four weeks after surgery. RNA-seq was conducted 4 weeks after CCI surgery. Compared with contral group, RNA-seq identified a total 309 and 222 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the ipsilateral and contralateral mPFC of CCI model mice, respectively. GO analysis indicated that the functions of these genes were mainly enriched in immune- and inflammation-related processes such as interferon-gamma production and cytokine secretion. KEGG analysis further showed the enrichment of genes involved in the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction signaling pathway and Parkinson disease pathway that have been reported to be importantly involved in chronic neuralgia and cognitive dysfunction. The hollow MCM-48 polyethyleneimine carboxyphenylboronic acid molecularly imprinted polymers (H-MPC@MIPs) were synthesized to efficiently and selectively separate and enrich the ovalbumin (OVA) in egg white samples. Polyethyleneimine contained enough active amino groups to increase the amount of boric acid molecules modified to silica nanoparticles. Meanwhile, the materials were etched to enhance the adsorption effect. The H-MPC@MIPs exhibited a rapid adsorption equilibrium rate (within 30 min) and outstanding adsorption capacity for OVA (1334.1 mg g -1 ). It possessed a good reusability after 5 cycles. In addition, both the high density and the imprinting action of boric acid were essential for enhancing the identification and binding of OVA. A range of studies have shown that prenatal maternal stress (PNMS) exposure is associated with offspring autistic-like behaviors, however the potential pathways remain unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the mediating role of parent-child interactions in early life in the association between PNMS exposure and preschoolers' autistic-like behaviors. Data from 65,928 child-parent dyads were obtained via a primary caregiver-reported questionnaire administered as part of the Longhua Child Cohort Study. To strengthen confidence in the reliability of the results, the analyses were initially conducted on a random selection of 70% of the total sample, and then validated on the remaining 30% of the sample. Analysis of covariance and multiple linear models were employed to estimate the associations between PNMS exposure, parent-child interactions in early life, and children's autistic-like behaviors. The results showed that PNMS exposure was positively associated with the presence of autistic-like behaviors at preschool age. The total indirect effect of the frequency of positive parent-child interactions in early life accounted for 9.69% or 8.99% of the variance of the association. Our findings indicate that parent-child interactions in early life might function as potential mediators of the association between PNMS and the increased risk of offspring autistic-like behaviors.

The construction of sensors with specific recognition functions can easily, sensitively and efficiently detect heavy metal ions, which is a demand in the field of electrochemical sensing and an important topic in the detection of environmental pollutants. An electrochemical sensor based on MOFs composites was developed for sensing of multiplex metal ions. The large surface area, adjustable porosities and channels in MOFs facilitate successful loading of sufficient quantities highly active units. The active units and pore structures of MOFs are regulated and synergetic with each other to enhance the electrochemical activity of MOFs composites. Thus, the selectivity, sensitivity and reproducibility of MOFs composites have been improved. Fortunately, after characterization, Fe@YAU-101/GCE sensor with strong signal was successfully constructed. In the presence of target metal ions in solution, the Fe@YAU-101/GCE can efficiently and synchronously identify Hg 2+ , Pb 2+ , and Cd 2+ . The detection limits (LOD) are 6.67 × 10 -10  M(Cd 2+ ), 3.33 × 10 -10  M(Pb 2+ ) and 1.33 × 10 -8  M (Hg 2+ ), and are superior to the permissible limits set by the National Environmental Protection Agency. This study investigated the behavior of veterinary antibiotics (VAs) in a small farm ecosystem. Manure and environmental samples were collected around a large pig farm in northeast China. Thirty-four VAs in six categories were analyzed. Then, a multimedia fugacity model was used to estimate the fates of VAs in the environment. The results showed that VAs were prevalent in manure, soil, water, and sediment, but not in crops. Compared with fresh manure, VA levels were significantly lower in surface manure piles left in the open air for 3-6 months. The main VAs, tetracyclines and quinolones, decreased by 427.12 and 158.45 µg/kg, respectively. VAs from manure piles were transported to the surroundings and migrated vertically into deep soil. The concentrations of ∑VAs detected in agricultural soils were 0.03-4.60 µg/kg; > 94% of the mass inventory of the VAs was retained in soil organic matter (SOM), suggesting that SOM is the main reservoir for antibiotics in soil. Risk assessment and model analysis indicated that the negative impact of mixed antibiotics at low concentrations in farmland on crops may be mediated by indirect effects, rather than direct effects. In this study, 3-carboxyphenylboronic acid (CP)-functionalized amino-modified Fe 3 O 4 (Fe 3 O 4 @NH 2 -CP, FNC) magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (FNC@MIPs) were synthesized and applied for the quick identification and selective separation of luteolin (LTL). The structure and morphology were characterized in detail by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and vibrating specimen magnetometry (VSM) methods. The FNC@MIPs had a homogeneous shape, excellent magnetic characteristics, quick binding kinetics, a high adsorption capacity, acceptable selectivity, and stable reusability. The solid-phase extraction parameters and preparation conditions were both optimized. Under optimized conditions, the maximal adsorption capacity was 14.26 mg g -1 and the imprinting factor was 3.62. Furthermore, the experimental kinetics data were best fitted with the pseudo-first-order model ( R 2 = 0.9877), and the Langmuir model could describe the adsorption process ( R 2 = 0.9979), suggesting a monolayer covering. The practical application of the sorbent for LTL detection in Lonicera japonica Thunb samples showed recoveries in the range of 84.5-108.7%. Therefore, the strategy offers a fresh avenue for the extraction and purification of LTL.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a whole-process health education model among inpatients with ascites type of advanced schistosomiasis., Methods: A "admission-hospitalization-discharge" whole-process health education model was created, 101 inpatients with ascites type of advanced schistosomiasis were given the whole-process health education. The scores of schistosomiasis control knowledge, attitudes towards schistosomiasis control and healthy behaviors, and awareness of schistosomiasis control knowledge, correct rate of attitudes towards schistosomiasis control and correct rate of healthy behaviors were compared among inpatients with ascites type of advanced schistosomiasis before and after implementation of the whole-process health education., Results: The scores of schistosomiasis control knowledge, schistosomiasis control attitudes and healthy behaviors were all significantly higher among inpatients with ascites type of advanced schistosomiasis after implementation of the whole-process health education than before implementation ( Z = -7.688, -3.576 and -4.328, all P values < 0.01). In addition, the awareness of schistosomiasis control knowledge increased from 54.3% to 82.7% (χ 2 = 188.886, P < 0.01), and the correct rate of attitudes towards schistosomiasis control increased from 88.4% to 98.0% (χ 2 = 22.001, P < 0.01), while the correct rate of healthy behaviors increased from 48.2% to 59.7% (χ 2 = 11.767, P < 0.01)., Conclusions: The whole-process health education model may remarkably improve the awareness of schistosomiasis control knowledge and promote the formation of positive attitudes towards schistosomiasis control and correct behaviors among inpatients with ascites type of advanced schistosomiasis, which is of great significance to facilitate patients' cure.

The effectiveness and side effects of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) medication are related to individual genetic background. SNPs CYP3A4 and CYP2C19 were introduced to machine-learning models to improve the performance of T2D medication prediction. Two multilabel classification models, ML-KNN and WRank-SVM, trained with clinical data and CYP3A4 / CYP2C19 SNPs were evaluated. Prediction performance was evaluated with Hamming loss, one-error, coverage, ranking loss and average precision. The average precision of ML-KNN and WRank-SVM using clinical data was 92.74% and 92.9%, respectively. Combined with CYP2C19*2*3 , the average precision dropped to 88.84% and 89.93%, respectively. While combined with CYP3A4*1G , the average precision was enhanced to 97.96% and 97.82%, respectively. Results suggest that CYP3A4*1G can improve the performance of ML-KNN and WRank-SVM models in predicting T2D medication performance.

This study investigates the effect of hearing aid use on the peripheral auditory pathways in children with sensorineural hearing loss prior to cochlear implantation, as revealed by the electrically evoked auditory brainstem response (EABR). Forty children with hearing aids were recruited. Half of them had normal inner ear structures and the other half had inner ear malformations (IEMs). The EABR was evoked by electrically stimulating the round window niche (RWN) and round window membrane (RWM) during the cochlear implantation operation. The onset age of hearing aid use was significantly correlated with the peak latencies, but not amplitudes, of the wave III (eIII) and wave V (eV). Higher EABR thresholds were found for RWN stimulation than for RWM stimulation and in the children with IEMs than in those without IEMs. Our study provides neurophysiological evidence that earlier use of hearing aids may ameliorate physiological functions of the peripheral auditory pathway in children with and without IEMs. The EABR evoked by the electrical stimulation at RWM is more sensitive compared with that at RWN for evaluating functions of the auditory conduction pathway.

Introduction: There is limited research available on safe medication management practices in emergency medical services (EMS) practice, with most evidence-based medication safety guidelines based on research in nursing, operating theater and pharmacy settings. Prevention of errors requires recognition of contributing factors across the spectrum from the organizational level to procedural elements and patient characteristics. Evidence is inconsistent regarding the incidence of medication errors and multiple sources also state that errors are under-reported, making the true magnitude of the problem difficult to quantify. Definitions of error also vary, with the specific context of medication errors in prehospital practice yet to be established. The objective of this review is to identify the factors influencing the occurrence of medication errors by EMS personnel in the prehospital environment., Methods and Analysis: The review included both qualitative and quantitative research involving interventions or phenomena related to medication safety or medication error by EMS personnel in the prehospital environment. A search of multiple databases was conducted to identify studies meeting these inclusion criteria. All studies selected were assessed for methodological quality; however, this was not used as a basis for exclusion. Each stage of study selection, appraisal and data extraction was conducted by two independent reviewers, with a third reviewer deciding any unresolved conflicts. The review follows a convergent integrated approach, conducting a single qualitative synthesis of qualitative and "qualitized" quantitative data., Results: Fifty-six articles were included in the review, with case reports and qualitative studies being the most frequent study types. Qualitative analysis revealed seven major themes: organizational factors (with reporting as a sub-theme), equipment/medications, environmental factors, procedure-related factors, communication, patient-related factors (with pediatrics as a sub-theme) and cognitive factors. Both contributing factors and protective factors were identified., Discussion: The body of evidence regarding medication errors is heterogenous and limited in both quantity and quality. Multiple factors influence medication error occurrence; knowledge of these is necessary to mitigate the risk of errors. Medication error incidence is difficult to quantify due to inconsistent measure, definitions and contexts of research conducted to date. Further research is required to quantify the prevalence of identified factors in specific practice settings.

To provide the latest evidence for future research and practice, this study critically reviewed Indigenous peoples' cancer care experiences in the Australian healthcare system from the patient's point of view. After searching PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus databases, twenty-three qualitative studies were included in this review. The inductive approach was used for analysing qualitative data on cancer care experience in primary, tertiary and transitional care between systems. Three main themes were found in healthcare services from Indigenous cancer care experiences: communication, cultural safety, and access to services. Communication was an important theme for all healthcare systems, including language and literacy, understanding of cancer care pathways and hospital environment, and lack of information. Cultural safety was related to trust in the system, privacy, and racism. Access to health services was the main concern in transitional care between healthcare systems. While some challenges will need long-term and collective efforts, such as institutional racism as a downstream effect of colonisation, cultural training for healthcare providers and increasing the volume of the Indigenous workforce, such as Indigenous Liaison Officers or Indigenous Care Coordinators, could effectively address this inequity issue for Indigenous people with cancer in Australia in a timely manner.

Aim: To investigate the reliability of a modified three-dimensional distraction test (3D-DT) and three-dimensional pinch test (3D-PT) for assessing lower eyelid tension (LET)., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 97 volunteers including 97 eyelids with no history of trauma, tumor, or reconstructive surgeries. Six three-dimensional photographs were acquired for each participant, including two photographs obtained in a neutral position (NP), two using a modified 3D-DT with a 15.9-grammes stainless steel eyelid hook performed, and two using 3D-PT., Results: The mean absolute differences between NP, 3D-DT, and 3D-PT measurements varied between 0.07 and 7.42, 0.10 and 13.10, and 0.07 and 15.97, respectively; technical error of measurement varied between 0.05 and 7.81, 0.09 and 10.19, and 0.07 and 12.47, respectively; and relative error measurements varied between 0.10% and 11.50%, 0.16% and 30.51%, and 0.11% and 38.75%, respectively. For intra-rater reliability, the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were more than 0.80 in seven out of eight measurements obtained in the NP and 3D-DT, whereas those obtained in the 3D-PT were as low as less than 0.30 by rater 1; the ICCs of all the measurements obtained in all the positions (NP, 3D-DT, and 3D-PT) were more than 0.80 by rater 2. For inter-rater reliability six out of eight NP and 3D-DT measurements had an ICC greater than 0.80, whereas those of 3D-PT measurements were less than 0.30. For intra-method reliability, the ICCs of all the NP measurements were more than 0.87, whereas those of the six 3D-DT measurements and four 3D-PT measurements were more than 0.80., Conclusion: Our study results prove that the modified 3D-DT, which involves the use of an eyelid hook, can be a highly reliable method for evaluating LET. Cold and drought stress are the two most severe abiotic stresses in alpine regions. Poa crymophila is widely grown in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with strong tolerance. Here, by profiling gene expression patterns and metabolomics-associated transcriptomics co-expression network, the acclimation of Poa crymophila to the two stresses was characterized. (1) The genes and metabolites with stress tolerance were induced by cold and drought, while those related with growth were inhibited, and most of them were restored faster after stresses disappeared. In particular, the genes for the photosynthesis system had strong resilience. (2) Additionally, cold and drought activated hypoxia and UV-B adaptation genes, indicating long-term life on the plateau could produce special adaptations. (3) Phenolamines, polyamines, and amino acids, especially N',N″,N'″- p -coumaroyl-cinnamoyl-caffeoyl spermidine, putrescine, and arginine, play key roles in harsh environments. Flexible response and quick recovery are strategies for adaptation to drought and cold in P. crymophila , accounting for its robust tolerance and resilience. Purpose: To investigate the auditory pathway functions in deaf patients with Mondini malformation using the electrically evoked auditory brainstem response (EABR) during cochlear implantation (CI)., Methods: A total of 58 patients with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) were included in this study. Of these patients, 27 cases had Mondini malformation and 31 control cases had no inner ear malformations (IEMs). Intraoperative EABRs evoked by electrical stimulation at the round window niche (RWN) and round window membrane (RWM) were recorded., Results: Patients with Mondini malformation showed significantly lower EABR extraction rates than those with no IEMs did. However, for patients who showed EABRs, no significant difference in EABR thresholds, wave III (eIII) latencies, wave V (eV) latencies or eIII-eV latency intervals was found between two groups., Conclusion: The physiological functions of the peripheral auditory system in patients with Mondini malformation may divide into opposite extremes, as revealed by a robust EABR and the absence of the EABR, respectively. There is growing evidence that cooking oil fumes (COFs) are harmful indoor air pollutants. However, there is a dearth of research investigating whether maternal COFs exposure during pregnancy may affect children's autistic-like behaviors in China. This study aimed to explore this association, and examine the effects of different cooking fuels and ventilation methods used by mothers on the presence of autistic-like behaviors. This study analyzed the survey data of the Longhua Child Cohort Study in 2017 with a total of 62,372 mothers enrolled in this study. A self-administrative questionnaire was used to collect information on socio-demographic characteristics, cooking habits during pregnancy, and autistic-like behaviors (measured using the Autism Behavior Checklist). After adjusting for potential confounders, the results showed that compared with children whose mothers never cooked during pregnancy, children whose mothers cooked sometimes, often, always during pregnancy had the higher risk of autistic-like behaviors. As the amounts of COFs exposed to and the frequency of cooking during pregnancy increased, the risk of a child's autistic-like behaviors also increased. Mothers using natural gas as cooking fuels had a lower risk of their child having autistic-like behaviors, compared with mothers using coal or other cooking fuels. Furthermore, pregnant women using ventilation measures during cooking significantly decreased likelihood of the presence of autistic-like behaviors in their children. These results suggest that maternal exposure to COFs during pregnancy may increase the likelihood of the presence of autistic-like behaviors in offspring. These findings support a recommendation that pregnant women should avoid exposure to COFs and use clean fuels and ventilation equipment in kitchens to reduce the risk of autistic-like behaviors in children., (© 2022. Organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the environment have been the focus of increasing attention due to their ubiquity and potential toxicity. However, there is little information on the occurrence and characteristics of OPEs in rural areas, especially those with cold year-round temperatures and frozen soil in winter. In this study, environmental samples were collected, in summer and winter, from villages and towns in Northeast China differing in the types and intensities of their anthropogenic activities. The samples were analyzed for 12 OPEs. The results showed the widespread presence of alkyl-OPEs, Cl-OPEs, and aryl-OPEs in the water, soil, snow, and ice of the study sites. In summer, tris(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCPP) and tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) were the primary compounds in water and soil, respectively. The ∑ 12 OPE concentration in three villages varied from 46.26 to 257.37 ng/L in water, and from 6.62 to 19.46 ng/g in soils. The ∑ 12 OPE concentrations in water were lower in winter than summer, but conversely, ∑ 12 OPE concentrations in frozen soils in winter were higher than those in soils in summer. In winter, there was a shift in the predominant OPEs in water and frozen soils, with dominance of TCEP and complex compounds, respectively. Obvious seasonal characteristics of the potential sources and ecological risks of OPEs in these areas were also determined, with more complex sources of OPEs seen in summer than winter. In summer, only 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) in water posed a potential risk, while in summer and, especially, in winter, EHDPP and tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate posed potential risks in soils. The high ∑ 12 OPE concentration in snow (56.77 ng/L) implied that wet deposition can amplify OPEs in other environmental compartments. This is the first systematic report on OPEs in a cold rural area. The role of social environmental factors on student academic achievement has been conceptualized from the perspective of the ecological system theory. In the present study, a strengths-based approach derived from the theory of positive youth development was adopted to explore the two favorable aspects of proximal social environments, including parents' emotional support and school cooperation climate, and to examine how these two factors influence the academic performance among Chinese senior-secondary vocational school students. Participants were 1,940 students (55.4% male) who took part in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 test from four regions in China. The students completed the questionnaires to assess parents' emotional support, school cooperation climate, school belonging, and academic performance. By adopting the structural equation model, the results revealed that school belonging fully mediates the association between parents' emotional support and academic scores, and the association between school cooperation climate and academic scores. In addition, multiple group comparison analyses showed there were some gender differences in the relationships between school cooperation climate and academic performance.
