Search

Literary artefacts are generally indexed and searched based on titles, meta data and keywords over the years. This searching and indexing works well when user/reader already knows about that particular creative textual artefact or document. This indexing and search hardly takes into account interest and emotional makeup of readers and its mapping to books. In case of literary artefacts, progression of emotions across the key events could prove to be the key for indexing and searching. In this paper, we establish clusters among literary artefacts based on computational relationships among sentiment progressions using intelligent text analysis. We have created a database of 1076 English titles + 20 Marathi titles and also used database http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dbamman/booksummaries.html with 16559 titles and their summaries. We have proposed Sentiment Progression based Search and Indexing (SPbSI) for locating and recommending books. This can be used to create personalized clusters of book titles of interest to readers. The analysis clearly suggests better searching and indexing when we are targeting book lovers looking for a particular type of books or creative artefacts.

Various cultural and emotional preferences delineate human creativity. One such set of preferences, literary inclination, impacts not only the books people choose to read but also on the way they perceive the narrative and human relationships contained within. Understanding the overall development of a plot and the evolution of relationships among different characters has significant implications for holding the reader’s attention. In this paper, we establish a computational means to derive progressions and associations among characters in a given narrative. We use two books from different cultural traditions (American popular literature and Indian Marathi literature) to validate this technique. For purposes of measuring relationships progression between different characters, we propose the Graphical Association Method (GAM). Further analysis of changes in these imaginary social relationships in relation to a reader’s literary inclinations demonstrates that this method holds promise for a more general analysis of narrative structure.

In such innovations Pulsating heat pipe is one of the technology which started in 1990 by Akachi. Pulsating heat pipe is a heat transfer device which has an effective heat transfer capability. In this work, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling has been performed to analyze pulverized coal combustion in a vertical pilot-scale furnace. The furnace with swirl burner is located at the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer at RWTH Aachen University, where O-2/CO2 combustion environment was adopted to study pulverized coal combustion experimentally (Toporov et al., 2008). A two-dimensional axisymmetric domain has been used in this work with a Lagrangian method to track coal particles. Performances of different Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence models have been investigated. The radiative heat transfer using discrete ordinate (DO) model coupled with variants of weighted-sum-of-grey-gases (WSGGM) methods has been examined. The results obtained by these models have been compared with the experimental data. The DO radiation model with domain based WSGGM and SST k-omega turbulence model showed a very good match with the experimental data among other tested models. The accuracy of predicted results was comparable to LES results available in the literature. It is observed that to get preliminary results the current simplified model is good enough with accuracy comparable to LES modelling. By using this validated model, the influence of combustion environments such as air, oxy-steam (O-2/H2O) and oxy-RFG (O-2/CO2) on temperature and NO concentration distribution has been investigated. This personalized newspaper aims to present news of your liking and suitable to your emotional makeup so that the overall desired impact will be achieved. The personalization will take care of personal context, emotional context along with individuals likings. Further presentation of news considering emotional make-up can help in producing overall positive impact.

Culture is core to human civilization, and is essential for human intellectual achievements in social context. Culture also influences how humans work together, perform particular task and overall lifestyle and dealing with other groups of civilization. Thus, culture is concerned with establishing shared ideas, particularly those playing a key role in success. Does it impact on how two individuals can work together in achieving certain goals? In this paper, we establish a means to derive cultural association and map it to culturally mediated success. Human interactions with the environment are typically in the form of expressions. Association between culture and behavior produce similar beliefs which lead to common principles and actions, while cultural similarity as a set of common expressions and responses. To measure cultural association among different candidates, we propose the use of a Graphical Association Method (GAM). The behaviors of candidates are captured through series of expressions and represented in the graphical form. The association among corresponding node and core nodes is used for the same. Our approach provides a number of interesting results and promising avenues for future applications., 10 pages, 2 figures

Customers take buying decisions on many factors. The emotional impact of the product on customer is one of the most important factors. Cognitive ergonomics tries to strike the balance between work, product and environment with human needs and capabilities. The utmost need to integrate emotions in the product cannot be denied. The idea is that product should be able to engage the customer on emotional and behavioral platform. While achieving this objective there is need to learn about customer behavior and use computational psychology while building product. This paper based on Machine Learning tries to map behavior of the customer with the products and also provide inputs for affective value for building personalized products. The affective value of the products is determined and products are mapped to customer. The algorithm suggests the most suitable product for customers while understanding emotional traits required for personalization. This work can be used to improve customer satisfaction through embedding emotions in the product. It can be used to map personal product range, personalized programs and ranking programs, products with reference to individuals.

INTRODUCTION: The role of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the home-setting remains controversial. Despite studies suggesting potential benefits, there is an apparent under-utilization of such therapy in patients with stable COPD in a domiciliary setting. AREAS COVERED: The reasons for under-utilization in the home-setting are multi-factorial, and we provide our perspective on the adequacy of scientific evidence and implementation barriers that may underlie the observed under-utilization. In this article, we will discuss continuous PAP, bilevel PAP, and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation using a home ventilator (NIPPV). EXPERT COMMENTARY: Many patients with stable COPD and chronic respiratory failure do not receive NIPPV therapy at home despite supportive scientific evidence. Such under-utilization suggests that there are barriers to implementation that include provider knowledge, health services and payor policies. For patients with stable COPD without chronic respiratory failure, there is inadequate scientific evidence to support domiciliary NIPPV or CPAP therapy. In patients with stable COPD without chronic respiratory failure, studies aimed at identifying patient characteristics that determine effectiveness of domiciliary NIPPV therapy needs further study. Future implementation and health-policy research with appropriate stakeholders are direly needed to help improve patient outcomes.

When a right person is working on a right task with appropriate context, he/she can do wonders. It has always been a challenge to select the most suitable person for a given task. When we are talking about suitability, apart from skills, cultural and behavioral suitability is required to be considered. This paper tries to identify cultural and behavioral properties of individuals along with skills to assess suitability of person for the mission. Paper proposes a new technique using multilevel context based machine learning using expressions and interactions. Suitability of a person for a given task determines how that person contributes to given task and its objectives. The available candidates can be ranked against the task at hand on the basis of suitability index (SI). Learning based on properties of the task as well as behavioral traits of candidates is used here. The algorithm is tested with responses collected for over one thousand candidates with reference to expert opinions and rankings. We have run experiments to compare proposed methods with skill based classification methods.

Customer/consumer enters a super market and traverses certain path to buy articles he/she wants. Here consumer/customer is a person who buys a product or service for his personal consumption or use. Can we predict what could be the path followed by customer/consumer and which article he/she is going to buy next? The path followed by consumer is depictive of his behavioral pattern, his likings and needs. Overall path tells us about his buying pattern and can help us to learn about articles he/she is planning to buy. Associations among these traversal paths could help us to predict traversal path of similar customers. This can allow us to suggest personalized paths for customers and also to rearrange articles dynamically based on majority of customers expected on a particular day. This can even help in positioning and sequencing of articles on retail websites. This paper proposes an algorithm for associating traversal paths and consumer psychology to predict behavior of the customer on website or in a particular shop. We have tested our algorithm for five major traversal paths of over 3000 records and 1000 customers from grocery shops. It not only produced encouraging insights but also gave us additional threads for research related to customer path traversal. The algorithm can find many applications in consumer psychology and also in the areas of predicting sales, positioning objects in shops or on websites, etc.

Selection of team for match, mission or project is always challenging since every mission is different and every match brings new uncertainties. Your best resource may not be the right choice for the given task. It is the context of task, behaviours of individuals and above all constitution of the team in that scenario contribute to the outcome. The context vector convergence (CVC) of behavioural vectors helps in deriving the actual effect of two vectors in overall team performance. The personality vector is used to derive behavioural context while mission vector is used to derive the scenario context. These two vectors are graphically associated in convergence to identify and recommend the best team combinations. While formulating the vector, cultural aspects and behaviours are captured through expressions and interactions. Top three combinations are compared to validate hypotheses. The promising results reinforce the premise to establish further research directions.

All actions are result of scenarios. While we analyze different information pieces and their relationships, we notice that actions drive intents and intents drive actions. These relationships among intents and actions can decode the reasoning behind action selection. In the similar way, in stories, news and even email exchanges these relationships are evident. These relationships can allow us to formulate a sequence of mails irrespective of change in subject and matter. The continuity among concepts, drift of concepts, and then reestablishing of original concepts in conversation, email exchanges, or even series of events is necessary to establish relationships among various artifacts. This paper proposes a multi-edge fuzzy graph-based adversarial concept mapping to resolve this issue. Instead of peaks, this technique tries to map different valleys in concept flow. The transition index between prominent valleys helps to decide your order of that particular leg. The paper further proposes a technique to minimize this using fuzzy graph. The fuzziness in graph represents the fuzzy relationships among concepts. The association among multiple such graphs helps to represent the overall concept flow. The dynamic concept flow represents the overall concept flow across the documents. This algorithm and representation can be very useful to represent lengthy documents with multiple references. This approach can be used to solve many real-life problems like news compilation, legal case relevance detection, and associating assorted news from the period under purview.

Object recognition technology has matured to a point at which exciting applications have become possible. Indeed, industry has created a variety of computer vision products and services from the traditional area of machine inspection to more recent applications such as object detection, video surveillance, or face recognition. This paper is about achieving the goal of object recognition through advanced techniques like deep learning on handy devices like smartphones and tablets. Deep learning algorithms (Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN)) are used for the primary aim of object recognition. Images are clicked through the camera of the smartphone during experimentation and are fed to the CNN network. The top four results predicted by the network are depicted on the smartphone screen in the audio and the visual form i.e. predicted object name and the probability of predicted object being the one actually clicked in the decreasing order of probabilities. The accuracy obtained in object recognition is about 93% through the application.

Many real life problems are about discovering and collating information. We have some scenarios and news artifacts and we need to derive the complete story. In case of assorted news articles related to same topic, we may need to derive the order of events with reference to their occurrence. Take example of daily newspaper, the news come as progress and we still could not build complete picture. To deduce conclusive evidence or to build holistic news one needs to organize different pieces of text. This research paper delivers a novel algorithm (Intent-Action Ontology based collation) for mapping multiple relevant news artifacts on time line by determining their interdependency along with personalized emotional traits. It takes in to account flow of events, continuity, negation, shift of emotions, association etc. along with individual's emotional tolerance to collate news and to produce desired impact. The proposed method helps to build news flow along with personalized emotional impact. This approach can be used for legal case flow detection and associating assorted news from the period under purview

Different data points have unique relationships among them. These relationships are associated with their positions, association and flow, hence help us to deliver an appropriate meaning. It becomes important to represent these relationships in unique and decodable way to derive the pertinent meaning. Traditional representation mechanisms fail to represent these multi-dimensional associations. There are intent action relationships among various data points. Intent may result into multiple actions. The data representations should be such that it should very effectively and uniquely represent intent action relationships. This research paper delivers a novel representation of Intent-Action Ontology to establish required associations among multiple intents and actions. This research paper proposes a novel method of contextual data representation using prime number route mapping. This approach is based on analyzing multidimensional intent and action relationships. This method can be used to solve many real life problems where intent action representation can throw light on association of events and their chronology.

Tolerance towards dietary antigens and luminal microbes is essential to maintain homeostasis, the breakdown of which results in development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). T-helper 17 (Th17) and T-regulatory (Treg) cells are abundant in the intestinal mucosa, where they function to protect the host from pathogens and to restrain excessive effector T-cell responses, respectively. How the balance and switch between Treg and Th17 responses is maintained in the steady state to promote tolerance and how this balance becomes altered to favor Th17 responses in the setting of IBD is not known. We have identified that intestinal goblet cell (GC) associated antigen passages (GAPs), are a major pathway for steady-state luminal antigen transfer to lamina propria - dendritic cells (LP-DCs). In addition, GAPs are necessary for the imprinting of LP-DCs with tolerogenic properties, for the de novo induction of Tregs specific for dietary antigens, and the maintenance of pre-existing LP Tregs. Moreover, GAP inhibition results in the expansion of Th17 cells in the small intestine LP. Consistent with this, single cell profiling of intestinal lymphocytes revealed enhanced Th17 pathway gene signatures in mice lacking GCs. These observations strongly support that GCs/GAPs have a previously unappreciated role in maintaining the functional balance between Treg and Th17 cell.

Hypoxia takes places in pathogenic conditions, such as heart ischemia. Complements factors have been reported to play an important role in ischemia-reperfusion injury in various animal models. We studied the cellular response to complement under hypoxia condition using a human cardiomyocyte cell line AC16. Under hypoxia condition without serum (thus no exogenous complements provided), these cardiomyocytes underwent apoptosis. However, when pure human C3 was supplemented after hypoxia, these cells had less apoptosis and maintained a reasonable survival rate. The results indicate that complement C3 can increase the cardiomyocytes resistance to apoptosis under the hypoxia condition.

Randomized controlled trials involving natriuretic peptide administration in solid organ transplantation setting have shown inconsistent effects for renal endpoints. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of these trials to ascertain the role of natriuretic peptides in the management of solid organ transplantation associated acute kidney injury (AKI). MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google scholar were searched independently by two authors for randomized trials evaluating renal effects of natriuretic peptides in solid organ transplantation settings. Two reviewers independently assessed the studies for eligibility and extracted the relevant data. The pooled estimate showed that natriuretic peptide administration is associated with a reduction in AKI requiring dialysis (odds ratio = 0.50 [0.26–0.97]), a statistically nonsignificant trend toward improvement in posttransplant creatinine clearance (weighted mean difference = 5.5 mL/min, [−1.3 to 12.2 mL/min]), and reduction in renal replacement requirement duration (weighted mean difference −44.0 hours, [−60.5 to −27.5 hours]). There were no mortality events and no adverse events related to natriuretic peptides. In conclusion, administration of natriuretic peptides in solid organ transplantation may be associated with significant improvements in renal outcomes. These observations need to be confirmed in an adequately powered, prospective multicenter study.

An increasing research interest has been directed toward nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for their advantages. The appropriate amalgamation of pH sensitivity and tumor targeting is a promising strategy to fabricate drug delivery systems with high efficiency, high selectivity and low toxicity.A novel pH sensitive Cremophor-free paclitaxel formulation, Nanoxel(TM), was developed in which the drug is delivered as nanomicelles using a polymeric carrier that specifically targets tumors. The efficiency and mechanism of intracellular paclitaxel delivery by Nanoxel(TM) was compared with two other commercially available paclitaxel formulations: Abraxane(TM) and Intaxel(TM), using different cell lines representing target cancers [breast, ovary and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC)] by transmission electron microscopy and quantitative intracellular paclitaxel measurements by high performance liquid chromatography.The data obtained from the present study revealed that the uptake of nanoparticle-based formulations Nanoxel(TM) and Abraxane(TM) is mediated by the process of endocytosis and the uptake of paclitaxel was remarkably superior to Intaxel(TM) in all cell lines tested. Moreover, the intracellular uptake of paclitaxel in Nanoxel(TM)- and Abraxane(TM)-treated groups was comparable. Hence, the nanoparticle-based formulations of paclitaxel (Nanoxel(TM) and Abraxane(TM)) are endowed with higher efficiency to deliver the drug to target cells as compared to the conventional Cremophor-based formulation.Nanoxel(TM) appears to be of great promise in tumor targeting and may provide an advantage for paclitaxel delivery into cancer cells.

Celiac disease is an enteropathy caused by CD4+ T cell responses to dietary gliadin, resulting in damage to the intestinal mucosa and malabsorption. How gliadin peptides cross the epithelium to interact with the immune system is unclear. We used an in vivo imaging approach on live mice and ex vivo assays on mouse and human intestinal explants to evaluate how gliadin traversed the intestinal epithelium. We observed that gliadin crossed the epithelial barrier of mice and humans via the recently described goblet cell associated antigen passages (GAPs), and moreover, gliadin increased the formation of GAPs. The induction of GAPs by gliadin was independent of acetylcholine signaling, the pathway inducing GAP formation in the steady state. Consistent with the increase in GAPs induced by gliadin, LP-DCs isolated from mice given luminal ovalbumin (Ova) concurrently with gliadin induced enhanced antigen specific T cell responses to Ova in ex vivo LP-DC T cell co-culture assays. In vivo Ova specific T cell responses in the MLN were enhanced in mice given Ova concurrent with gliadin. Gliadin did not increase the antigen presentation capacity of the LP-DCs when added to ex vivo cultures, indicating that increased luminal antigen delivery via GAPs mediates the enhanced antigen specific T cell responses to luminal Ova. In the absence of GC’s and GAPs gliadin did not enhance the delivery of luminal antigens to the LP-DCs and did not enhance T cell responses to luminal antigens. These studies identify that gliadin uses GAPs to cross the epithelial barrier, and that gliadin induces further GAP formation in a goblet cell intrinsic manner, thus facilitating the delivery of gliadin and other antigens to the immune system.

This preliminary study was designed to explore a new method for nutritional assessment by measuring oral mucosal cell apoptosis or proliferation.Forty-two consecutive patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors were hospitalized on the surgical wards and studied prospectively. Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment was used to identify malnourished patients. Anthropometric measurements including weight, body mass index, triceps skinfold thickness, and midarm muscle circumference were recorded. The serum proteins measured were retinol-binding protein (RBP), transferrin, prealbumin (PA), and albumin. Simultaneously, the rates of oral epithelial cell apoptosis and proliferation were measured by flow cytometry. Of the 20 malnourished patients, 14 were followed up in a serial study with a 3-d nutritional support therapy. Nutritional indices and oral epithelial cell apoptosis rate were measured after 3 d of nutritional support.Malnutrition was diagnosed in 20 of 42 patients (47.6%). Oral epithelial apoptosis and proliferation rates were significantly decreased (P0.01 and P0.05, respectively) in malnourished compared with non-malnourished patients, although there were no significant differences between their anthropometric data. Malnourished patients had lower serum levels of RBP, albumin, and PA and rates of oral epithelial cell apoptosis and proliferation. The rate of oral epithelial cell apoptosis positively correlated with serum RBP (R = 0.32, P0.05) and PA (R = 0.33, P0.05). The rate of oral epithelial cell apoptosis and serum RBP and PA increased significantly in the malnourished patients who received nutritional support for 3 days.Measuring the rate of oral epithelial cell apoptosis may be another non-invasive technique to determine nutritional assessment and is worthy of further exploration.

The intestinal epithelium forms an essential physicochemical barrier that separates luminal bacteria from underlying immune cells of the intestinal mucosa. Appropriate exposure of the immune cells to luminal antigens is crucial to ensure intestinal homeostasis and to respond to enteric infections. We recently demonstrated a previously unappreciated role of small intestinal (SI) Goblet cells (GCs) in delivering luminal antigens across the epithelium by forming goblet-cell associated antigen passages (GAPs) in the steady state. How pathogenic bacteria affect the formation of SI GAPs and the ability of pathogens to use GAPs as a portal of entry is largely unexplored. Here we report that in conventionally housed mice, luminal exposure to invasive Salmonella typhimurium, but not mutant non-invasive S. typhimurium, results in inhibition of SI GAPs within minutes. Moreover, overriding the ability of GCs to sense the pathogen by deleting MyD88 in GCs or inhibiting EGFR activation downstream of MyD88 during S. typhimurium infection allowed GAP formation, suggesting that GC intrinsic sensing of an invasive pathogen to shut off GAPs is a host defense mechanism. Fluorescent wildtype S. typhimurium preferentially localized around and within GCs forming GAPs. Deletion of GCs prevented the translocation of wildtype S. typhimurium to the SI draining mesenteric lymph node following oral infection, indicating that S. typhimurium uses GCs as a portal of entry. These findings identify a role of GC sensing of an invasive pathogen in inhibiting antigen delivery to the immune system and in limiting the translocation of pathogenic bacteria.

e17505 Background: Generic substitution may lead to increased access to cancer drugs. Little data have been published on cost savings in emerging markets. Methods: Estimate of cost and savings per cycle, per patient, and for India with generic drugs. Cost of paclitaxel, docetaxel, gemcitabine, irinotecan and oxaliplatin was obtained for originator branded and generic versions from a distributor in India. Costs are depicted in 2012 Rupees. Utilization was based on a BSA of 1.7, standard doses, expected lenght of treatment for common oncology indications and incidence data from GLOBOCAN. Results: Generic drugs cost from 8.9% to 36% of their equivalent branded originator drug, resulting in cost-savings of approximately INR 11,000 to 90,000 [US$ 200-1,600] per each drug per cycle; and approximately INR 50,000 to 240,000 [US$ 900-4,300] per patient treated. Overall, potential yearly savings for health systems in India were nearly INR 47 billion [US$ 843 million]. Conclusions: Generic substitution for commonly used chemotherapy agents has an enormous potential to generate significant cost-savings and increase access to cancer treatments in India and other low and middle income countries. Polyol mediated synthesized luminescent YVO(4):Eu(3+) nanoparticles (NPs) have been encapsulated in mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) using the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy along with transmission electron microscopy confirm the encapsulation of the YVO(4):Eu(3+) NPs in the SiO(2) matrix. N(2) adsorption/desorption analysis confirms the mesoporous nature of the MSNs and YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs. No significant quenching of the YVO(4):Eu(3+) luminescence is observed for YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs. This nanocomposite has been tested as a potential drug carrier. Efficient loading of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), a typical anticancer drug, is observed which reaches up to 93% in 8 mg ml(-1) of YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs. pH sensitive release of DOX is observed, with 54% release for pH 4.3 and 31% in a physiological environment (pH 7.4). Both MSNs and YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs nanocomposites do not show accountable toxicity to two cell lines, i.e. HeLa and MCF-7. However, as desired, toxicity is observed when cells are incubated with DOX loaded YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs. Laser scanning confocal microscopy images confirm the uptake of the nanocomposite in both cell lines. The morphology of the cells (MCF-7) changes after incubation with DOX loaded YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs, indicating an interaction of DOX with the cells. More cytotoxicity to both cell lines with ∼90% killing is observed due to the synergistic effect of magnetic fluid hyperthermia and chemotherapy using a biphasic suspension of superparamagnetic iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles and DOX loaded YVO(4):Eu(3+)-MSNs. In addition, an AC magnetic field triggers an enhanced drug release.

On behalf of the Interest Group on Supranational Biolaw of the European Association of Health Law (EAHL IG Biolaw) and the I-BioLex research project (ANR-20-CE26-0007-01), Éloïse Gennet and Aurélie Mahalatchimy have been coordinating, since September 2021, the thematic network on the pharmaceutical strategy on the European Health Policy Platform (EUHPP) of the European Commission. The thematic network of the EAHL IG Biolaw, selected by the European Commission and by the users of the EUHPP platform, is entitled “Health as a fundamental value. Towards an inclusive and equitable pharmaceutical strategy for the European Union”. This network enables to link the EAHL IG Biolaw, exclusively constituted by researchers and academics in the field of health law in Europe, on the one hand with the European Commission and in particular DG Health, and on the other hand with socio-economic actors interested in EU law applicable to medicinal products and medical devices (patient representatives, representatives of health professionals or non-governmental organizations in the field of health). After several months of fruitful exchanges, the final joint statement which was very favorably received by DG Health and endorsed by several organizations (including the President of Aix-Marseille University and the CNRS) has been presented at the EU Health Policy Platform Annual Meeting 2022 at the European Commission and published on the EUHPP in May 2022.
