Abstract

Alpinia hainanensisis an important food spice and ethnic medicine in Southwest China. In this study, we found that the EtOAc-soluble fraction (AHE) of the A. hainanensisrhizome ethanol extract could ameliorate dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis (UC). To explore active constituents, five pairs of previously unreported enantiomers (1–5), together with nine known ones (6–14), were obtained. Structural characterization was achieved by comprehensive spectroscopic methods. Compounds 1and 2were new curcumin–butyrovanillone hybrids featuring a rare structural fragment of 2,3-dihyrofuran. The anti-inflammatory activities of isolates were evaluated, and the results indicated that compounds (−)-1, (−)-3, 6, 9, 11, and 12significantly inhibited the nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway. These findings indicate the major active fraction of the A. hainanensisrhizome ethanol extract enriched with diarylheptanoids, flavonoids, phenolics, and their hybrid mixtures, which could be developed as a nutritional and dietary supplement for treating UC.

26. SHRIMP Zircon U-Pb Dating of the Tongshi Magmatic Complex in Western Shandong and Its Geological Implications

Abstract

The SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating result of the Tongshi magmatic complex in western Shandong is presented in this paper. The Tongshi magmatic complex comprises fine-grained porphyritic diorite and syenitic porphyry. Eighteen analyses for fine-grained porphyritic diorite gave two concordia ages, in which ten analyses constitute the young age group, giving 206Pb/238U ages ranging from 167.9 Ma to 183 Ma with a weighted mean age of 175.7 ± 3.8 Ma, and the other eight yielded 207Pb/206Pb ages of 2502 Ma to 2554 Ma with a weighted mean 2518 ± 11 Ma. Two analyses for syenitic porphyry gave ages of 2485 Ma and 2512 Ma, respectively. The age of 175.7± 3.8 Ma indicates that the crystallization of the Tongshi magmatic complex occurred in the Middle Jurassic, whereas that of 2518 ± 11 Ma is interpreted as the age of inherited magmatic zircons in the Neoarchean Wutai period.

Abstract

Four new diterpenoids, named aspidoptoids A–D (1–4), together with two known analogues (5–6) were isolated from Aspidopterys obcordata vine. Aspidoptoids A–B (1–2) are the first examples of phenylethylene-bearing 20-nor-diterpenoids of which aspidoptoid B (2) possesses a rare 3,10-oxybridge. Their structures and absolute configuration were determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses (IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. In addition, all the isolates were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities and inhibitory effects on the nitric oxide (NO) production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

45. Chemical Composition, Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Anti-inflammatory Activities of the Stem and Leaf Essential Oils from Piper flaviflorumfrom Xishuangbanna, SW China

Abstract

The present study is the first investigation of the chemical composition, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of the stem and leaf essential oils from Piper flaviflorumC.DC (SEOP and LEOP), a plant that has been consumed as a wild vegetable, and used as medicine, and spice by the ethnic groups in Xishuangbanna, SW China. Analyzed by GC-MS, 42 and 30 components were identified representing 90.1% and 95.3% of the SEOP and LEOP, with (E)-nerolidol (16.7% and 40.5%), β-caryophyllene (26.6% and 14.6%) and elixene (5.3% and 12.3%) as their main constituents, respectively. Our results indicate that SEOP and LEOP have good anti-inflammatory activity by significantly inhibiting NO production induced by LPS in RAW 264.7 cells at 0.04± without effect on cell viability, and negligible antioxidant activity in both ABTS and FRAP assays. Moreover, the LEOP showed comparable activity with the positive control (tigecycline) against Aspergillus fumigatus, with MIC and MBC values ranging from 256 to 1024 μg/mL. The anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells is worthy of further investigation to discover the possible mechanisms of the NO production inhibition effect of these essential oils.

46. Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil from Allium hookeriConsumed in Xishuangbanna, Southwest China

Abstract

The essential oil from the rhizomes of Allium hookeriThwaites, obtained by simultaneous distillation extraction, was analyzed by GC-MS. Di-2-propenyl trisulfide (31.8%), diallyl disulfide (28.4%), and dipropyl trisulfide (8.4%) were the main constituents among the thirteen identified components. The essential oil showed strong activity against Aspergillus fumigatusand Candida albicanswith MIC (the minimal inhibitory concentration) and MBC (minimal bactericidal concentration) values ranging from 32–64 μg/mL. These results suggest that the essential oil from the rhizomes of A. hookericould be used as a potential antimicrobial ingredient in the food industry.
