Abstract

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) is a non-contact method for detecting physiological signals from facial videos, holding great potential in various applications such as healthcare, affective computing, and anti-spoofing. Existing deep learning methods struggle to address two core issues of rPPG simultaneously: extracting weak rPPG signals from video segments with large spatiotemporal redundancy and understanding the periodic patterns of rPPG among long contexts. This represents a trade-off between computational complexity and the ability to capture long-range dependencies, posing a challenge for rPPG that is suitable for deployment on mobile devices. Based on the in-depth exploration of Mamba's comprehension of spatial and temporal information, this paper introduces RhythmMamba, an end-to-end Mamba-based method that employs multi-temporal Mamba to constrain both periodic patterns and short-term trends, coupled with frequency domain feed-forward to enable Mamba to robustly understand the quasi-periodic patterns of rPPG. Extensive experiments show that RhythmMamba achieves state-of-the-art performance with reduced parameters and lower computational complexity. The proposed RhythmMamba can be applied to video segments of any length without performance degradation. 15. Management practices : incentives, team formation, and mentoring

Abstract

The utilisation of incentives is essential for the success of organisations. Given the complexity of the real business world and the scarcity of high quality data, the academic literature on the impacts of incentives remains scant. This thesis contributes to the literature by studying three different incentives including remuneration for multitasking group leaders, team formation rules, and determinants of manager-employee mentoring relationships. I map my economic analysis into three unique datasets to examine the incentive effects. I conducted a field experiment in two Chinese factories. I introduced rank incentives and monetary prizes to group leaders regarding their organisational behaviours. As a result, I find a significant increase in group performance. In another study, I designed a laboratory experiment with two stages of a real effort task to test the possible dynamic effects of optimal team composition. The results show that pairing the worst performing individuals with the best yields 20% lower first stage effort than random matching. Pairing the best with the best, however, yields 5% higher first stage effort than random matching. Last but not the least, I study both non-monetary and monetary determinants of mentoring relationships between managers and employees in British firms by using data from the Workplace Employment Relations Survey. In particular, I focus on the role of a manager's gender and the use of managerial incentive schemes. Past literature suggests a significant association between a manager's gender and mentoring behaviour. However, using longitudinal data this paper finds that the significant relationship disappears once firm fixed effects are included. The results also show a positive but weak association between managerial incentive schemes and managers' mentoring behaviour. Widespread mentorships are more likely to be found in firms where managers' payments are linked to organisational profits.

29. Rhubarb alleviates hyperoxia induced lung injury in neonatal rats with bronchopulmonary dysplasia by inhibiting inflammation

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the effect of rhubarb on hyperoxia-induced lung injury in neonatal rats with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and the underlying mechanism.Methods: Sixty 4-day-old neonatal rats were assigned to air control, BPD, and rhubarb intervention groups, with 20 rats in each group. Immunoblotting was employed to assay NF-κB expression. Levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and SOD were determined spectrophotometrically, while ELISA was used to measure serum levels of IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α.Results: The peripheral blood levels of TNF-α, IL-8 and IL-1β were markedly higher in BPD-exposed rats than in the air control rats, while peripheral blood levels of TNF-α, IL-8 and IL-1β were reduced in rhubarb intervention rats, relative to BPD-exposed rats. The activity of SOD was markedly lower in lung tissue of BPD rats than in lung tissue of air control rats, while MDA level was markedly elevated in BPD rats (p < 0.05). There was marked up-regulation of NF-κB p65 expression in BPD-exposed rats, relative to air control rats, but it was markedly lower in rhubarb intervention rats than in hyperoxia model rats (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Rhubarb mitigated hyperoxia-induced inflammation, oxidative stress and lung injury in BPD neonatal rat model by inhibiting oxidative stress and reducing the levels of inflammatory factors.

Abstract

Two-dimensional graphene-like materials have numerous pores, large surface areas, and other excellent properties. And two-dimensional graphene-like materials have great potential in magnetic and spintronic devices. In this paper, we intercepted a fraction of g-C3N4 and prepared it into nanoribbons. We have calculated the g-C3N4 nanoribbons by studying the electronic structure of g-C3N4 nanoribbons to determine whether they can be used as spintronic and magnetic memory devices. Because the g-C3N4 nanoribbons have a narrow band gap and more overlapping wave functions, to turn the performance of the g-C3N4 nanoribbons, it was decided to dope transition metal Fe atoms. Subsequently, we found that the doped g-C3N4 nanoribbons with Fe atoms undergo a phase transition, from semiconducting property to half-metallic property, and the magnetic property of the g-C3N4 nanoribbons is enhanced by doped Fe atoms, so the performance of the g-C3N4 nanoribbons was improved. Abstract

In teamwork settings, providing effective leadership can be challenging for team leaders due to multitasking and the difficulty in measuring and rewarding leadership input. These challenges might lead to underprovision of leadership activities, which can ultimately impede the productivity of the team. To address this problem, we conduct a field experiment at a manufacturing firm, introducing a relative subjective performance evaluation of team leaders' leadership activities by their managers, coupled with bonuses based on their leadership rank among all leaders. Our intervention increased worker productivity by approximately 7%, while leaving team leaders' productivity unchanged, and was profitable for the firm. During the intervention, we observe a positive correlation between the evaluations of team leaders and the productivity of team members, suggesting that the subjective evaluation indeed increased leadership activities and thus productivity.

50. Tailored modifications of the electronic properties of g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons by first-principles calculations.

Abstract

The electronic structure of g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons was investigated by first-principles calculations. As a splice structure, we first computed the three magnetic coupled states of g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons. After self-consistent calculations, both the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic coupling states become ferromagnetic coupling states. It was proved that the ferromagnetic coupling state is the most stable state. Thermodynamic stability was subsequently verified based on the ferromagnetic coupling state. It had a steady electron spin polarization, with a magnetic moment of 1 μB for each primitive cell. It changed from a direct band-gap semiconductor to an indirect band-gap semiconductor and exhibited the properties of a narrow band gap semiconductor through the analysis of the energy band and charge density. To transform the electronic structure, we adsorbed different transition metals in g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons. We investigated the electronic structure of g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons adsorbed by different transition metals. It was shown that the electronic structure of g-C3N4/C2N-h2D nanoribbons could be regulated by the adsorption of different transition metal atoms. Moreover, the adsorption of Fe and Ni can generate a 100% polarized current in the Fermi surface, which will provide more application potential for spintronics devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
