Anthropomorphic social bots are engineered to emulate human verbal communication and generate toxic or inflammatory content across social networking services (SNSs). Bot-disseminated misinformation could subtly yet profoundly reshape societal processes by complexly interweaving factors like repeated disinformation exposure, amplified political polarization, compromised indicators of democratic health, shifted perceptions of national identity, propagation of false social norms, and manipulation of collective memory over time. However, extrapolating bots' pluripotency across hybridized, multilingual, and heterogeneous media ecologies from isolated SNS analyses remains largely unknown, underscoring the need for a comprehensive framework to characterise bots' emergent risks to civic discourse. Here we propose an interdisciplinary framework to characterise bots' pluripotency, incorporating quantification of influence, network dynamics monitoring, and interlingual feature analysis. When applied to the geopolitical discourse around the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, results from interlanguage toxicity profiling and network analysis elucidated spatiotemporal trajectories of pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian human and bots across hybrid SNSs. Weaponized bots predominantly inhabited X, while human primarily populated Reddit in the social media warfare. This rigorous framework promises to elucidate interlingual homogeneity and heterogeneity in bots' pluripotent behaviours, revealing synergistic human-bot mechanisms underlying regimes of information manipulation, echo chamber formation, and collective memory manifestation in algorithmically structured societies.

Most of the existing text generative steganographic methods are based on coding the conditional probability distribution of each word during the generation process, and then selecting specific words according to the secret information, so as to achieve information hiding. Such methods have their limitations which may bring potential security risks. Firstly, with the increase of embedding rate, these models will choose words with lower conditional probability, which will reduce the quality of the generated steganographic texts; secondly, they can not control the semantic expression of the final generated steganographic text. This paper proposes a new text generative steganography method which is quietly different from the existing models. We use a Knowledge Graph (KG) to guide the generation of steganographic sentences. On the one hand, we hide the secret information by coding the path in the knowledge graph, but not the conditional probability of each generated word; on the other hand, we can control the semantic expression of the generated steganographic text to a certain extent. The experimental results show that the proposed model can guarantee both the quality of the generated text and its semantic expression, which is a supplement and improvement to the current text generation steganography.

This year marks the 150th celebration of Nature. However, the understanding of the way the army of unsung editors-in-chief has strengthened and enriched the integrity and quality of the journal under the umbrella of its original mission remains nominal rather than substantial. This paper scrutinizes the chief vehicle guided by Nature's doctrine with regard to the ways it has conflicted with the advancement of both science and social progress. We first recast quantitative spatiotemporal analysis on the diachronic discourse of Nature since its debut, which promises to articulate the unfolding chronological picture of Nature on a historical time scale, and pinpoint overdue corrective to the strongly-held but flawed notions on editors-in-chief of Nature. Our findings strongly indicate that the army of editors-in-chief have never met with their fair share of identification, and they took on the challenge guided by Nature's doctrine with extraordinary polymath, unparalleled enthusiasm and diverse characters.

Given the increasingly serious air pollution problem, the monitoring of air quality index (AQI) in urban areas has drawn considerable attention. This paper presents ImgSensingNet, a vision guided aerial-ground sensing system, for fine-grained air quality monitoring and forecasting using the fusion of haze images taken by the unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) and the AQI data collected by an on-ground three-dimensional (3D) wireless sensor network (WSN). Specifically, ImgSensingNet first leverages the computer vision technique to tell the AQI scale in different regions from the taken haze images, where haze-relevant features and a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) are designed for direct learning between haze images and corresponding AQI scale. Based on the learnt AQI scale, ImgSensingNet determines whether to wake up on-ground wireless sensors for small-scale AQI monitoring and inference, which can greatly reduce the energy consumption of the system. An entropy-based model is employed for accurate real-time AQI inference at unmeasured locations and future air quality distribution forecasting. We implement and evaluate ImgSensingNet on two university campuses since Feb. 2018, and has collected 17,630 photos and 2.6 millions of AQI data samples. Due to the significant air pollution problem, monitoring and prediction for air quality have become increasingly necessary. To provide real-time fine-grained air quality monitoring and prediction in urban areas, we have established our own Internet-of-Things-based sensing system in Peking University. Due to the energy constraint of the sensors, it is preferred that the sensors wake up alternatively in an asynchronous pattern, which leads to a sparse sensing dataset. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to predict the real-time fine-grained air quality based on asynchronous sensing. The sparse dataset and the spatial-temporal-meteorological relations are modeled into the correlation graph, in which way the prediction procedures are carefully designed. Driven by the increasingly serious air pollution problem, the monitoring of air quality has gained much attention in both theoretical studies and practical implementations. In this paper, we present the architecture, implementation and optimization of our own air quality sensing system, which provides real-time and fine-grained air quality map of the monitored area. As the major component, the optimization problem of our system is studied in detail. Our objective is to minimize the average joint error of the established real-time air quality map, which involves data inference for the unmeasured data values. A deep Q-learning solution has been proposed for the power control problem to reasonably plan the sensing tasks of the power-limited sensing devices online. A genetic algorithm has been designed for the location selection problem to efficiently find the suitable locations to deploy limited number of sensing devices. As air pollution is becoming the largest environmental health risk, the monitoring of air quality has drawn much attention in both theoretical studies and practical implementations. In this article, we present a real-time, fine-grained and power-efficient air quality monitoring system based on aerial and ground sensing. The architecture of this system consists of four layers: the sensing layer to collect data, the transmission layer to enable bidirectional communications, the processing layer to analyze and process the data, and the presentation layer to provide graphic interface for users. Three major techniques are investigated in our implementation, given by the data processing, the deployment strategy and the power control. For data processing, spacial fitting and short-term prediction are performed to eliminate the influences of the incomplete measurement and the latency of data uploading. The deployment strategies of ground sensing and aerial sensing are investigated to improve the quality of the collected data. The power control is further considered to balance between power consumption and data accuracy. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has been recognized as a promising way to assist future wireless communications due to its high flexibility of deployment and scheduling. In this paper, we focus on temporarily deployed UAVs that provide downlink data offloading in some regions under a macro base station (MBS). Since the manager of the MBS and the operators of the UAVs could be of different interest groups, we formulate the corresponding spectrum trading problem by means of contract theory, where the manager of the MBS has to design an optimal contract to maximize its own revenue. Such contract comprises a set of bandwidth options and corresponding prices, and each UAV operator only chooses the most profitable one from all the options in the whole contract. We analytically derive the optimal pricing strategy based on fixed bandwidth assignment, and then propose a dynamic programming algorithm to calculate the optimal bandwidth assignment in polynomial time. By simulations, we compare the outcome of the MBS optimal contract with that of a social optimal one, and find that a selfish MBS manager sells less bandwidth to the UAV operators., Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures

Wireless network virtualization has been well recognized as a way to improve the flexibility of wireless networks by decoupling the functionality of the system and implementing infrastructure and spectrum as services. Recent studies have shown that caching provides a better performance to serve the content requests from mobile users. In this paper, we propose that \emph{caching can be applied as a service} in mobile networks, i.e., different service providers (SPs) cache their contents in the storages of wireless facilities that owned by mobile network operators (MNOs). Specifically, we focus on the scenario of \emph{small-cell networks}, where cache-enabled small-cell base stations (SBSs) are the facilities to cache contents. To deal with the competition for storages among multiple SPs, we design a mechanism based on multi-object auctions, where the time-dependent feature of system parameters and the frequency of content replacement are both taken into account. Simulation results show that our solution leads to a satisfactory outcome.
