Electromagnetic data annotation is one of the most important steps in many signal processing applications, e.g., radar signal deinterleaving and radar mode analysis. This work considers cooperative electromagnetic data annotation from multiple reconnaissance receivers/platforms. By exploiting the inherent correlation of the electromagnetic signal, as well as the correlation of the observations from multiple receivers, a low-rank matrix recovery formulation is proposed for the cooperative annotation problem. Specifically, considering the measured parameters of the same emitter should be roughly the same at different platforms, the cooperative annotation is modeled as a low-rank matrix recovery problem, which is solved iteratively either by the rank minimization method or the maximum-rank decomposition method. A comparison of the two methods, with the traditional annotation method on both the synthetic and real data, is given. Numerical experiments show that the proposed methods can effectively recover missing annotations and correct annotation errors.

As a potential air control measure, RF-based surveillance is one of the most commonly used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) surveillance methods that exploits specific emitter identification (SEI) technology to identify captured RF signal from ground controllers to UAVs. Recently many SEI algorithms based on deep convolution neural network (DCNN) have emerged. However, there is a lack of the implementation of specific hardware. This paper proposes a high-accuracy and power-efficient hardware accelerator using an algorithm–hardware co-design for UAV surveillance. For the algorithm, we propose a scalable SEI neural network with SNR-aware adaptive precision computation. With SNR awareness and precision reconfiguration, it can adaptively switch between DCNN and binary DCNN to cope with low SNR and high SNR tasks, respectively. In addition, a short-time Fourier transform (STFT) reusing DCNN method is proposed to pre-extract feature of UAV signal. For hardware, we designed a SNR sensing engine, denoising engine, and specialized DCNN engine with hybrid-precision convolution and memory access, aiming at SEI acceleration. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of our design on a FPGA, using a public UAV dataset. Compared with a state-of-the-art algorithm, our method can achieve the highest accuracy of 99.3% and an F1 score of 99.3%. Compared with other hardware designs, our accelerator can achieve the highest power efficiency of 40.12 Gops/W and 96.52 Gops/W with INT16 precision and binary precision.

Abstract In this paper, we present a polarization sensitive frequency diverse array (PSFDA), which benefits both from frequency diverse array (FDA) and polarization sensitive array (PSA), producing angle-range-polarization-dependent beamforming capability. To simultaneously improve the angle, range and polarization resolution, the ℓ 1-norm minimization-based sparse constraint and ℓ ∞ -norm constraint for sidelobe region are further applied. Besides, the performance of the optimal output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) is analyzed for such a high-dimensional arrays. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed PSFDA provides both range and polarization resolution as well as target angle estimation. Moreover, the PSFDA virtually increases the array size by exploiting multiple electromagnetic fields at each physical point. In addition, the proposed beamforming method can effectively null interferences, without degrading the array gain for the signals of interest.

In this paper, we propose a computationally efficient algorithm with improved effective aperture for coherent angle estimation in a monostatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. First, the direction matrix of MIMO radar is mapped into a low-dimensional matrix of virtual uniform linear array (ULA). Then, an augmented data expansion matrix with improved effective aperture is obtained by exploiting the Vandermonde-like structure of the low-dimensional direction matrix and radar cross section (RCS) matrix to enlarge the aperture of the array. Next, a unitary transformation is used to transform the augmented matrix into a real value and the approximate signal subspace of the augmented matrix is obtained by the Nyström method, which can reduce the computational complexity. The eigenvectors of the approximate signal subspace are used to reconstruct the matrix for direct decorrelation processing. Finally, direction of arrivals (DOAs) can be estimated faster by utilizing the unitary ESPRIT algorithm since the rotation invariance of the extended reconstruction matrix still exists. The proposed algorithm has a lower total computational complexity, and the estimation accuracy is improved by utilizing real values and enlarging the array aperture for estimation. Several theoretical analyses and simulation results confirm the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method.
