Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a mixture of hydrogen bond donor (HBD) and hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) molecules that can consist, respectively, of natural plant metabolites such as sugars, carboxylic acids, amino acids, and ionic molecules, which are for the vast majority ammonium salts. Media such as DESs are modular tools of sustainability that can be pointed toward the extraction of bioactive molecules due to their excellent physicochemical properties, their relatively low price, and accessibility. The present review focuses on the application of DESs for protein extraction and purification. The in-depth effects and principles that apply to DES-mediated extraction using various renewable biomasses will be discussed as well. One of the most important observations being made is that DESs have a clear ability to maintain the biological and/or functional activity of the extracted proteins, as well as increase their stability compared to traditional solvents. They demonstrate true potential for a reproducible but more importantly, scalable protein extraction and purification compared to traditional methods while enabling waste valorization in some particular cases.

The development of highly specific biomimetic recognition material is a challenge for rapid detection of harmful residues in foodstuff. In this study, a paper-based boronate affinity metal-organic framework/molecularly imprinted polymer microfluidic chip (FZS-BA@MIP) was constructed based on the in situ construction strategy, which was also designed as a highly specific biomimetic recognition module. Here, the homogeneous zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) membrane served as a great scaffold and enrichment layer. Besides, the recognition layer of MIP was prepared based on a highly oriented boronate affinity surface imprinting strategy. With the aid of the liquid flow channel, the highly specific enrichment and visual detection for antibiotic residues like kanamycin in actual products were achieved on the paper chip module of an integrated lateral flow platform. The whole analysis process could be accomplished within 30 min. In brief, this study offered a new integrated biomimetic recognition platform for visually detecting harmful veterinary residues containing cis-diols, which demonstrated promising commercial value in point-of-care testing of foodborne hazardous compounds.

This paper studied the content of water glass before and after adding modifying agent by TMS-GC method, it was found that different modulus of water glass led to decrease of silicate content at different levels after a period of storage, and the modifying agent could retard the aging of water glass. It has remarkable significance on the theory and practical application of water glass chemistry.

Tobacco, a pivotal economic crop in China, faces the challenge of securing high-quality raw materials for its industry due to unbalanced and inefficient nitrogen (N) application. To assess the impact of fertilizer management and soil factors on the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco (FCT), a meta-analysis was conducted across 82 peer-reviewed research studies. The findings demonstrated that both fertilizer management and soil properties exerted a significantly greater influence on yield (63.13% and 62.05%, respectively) than the proportion of superior and medium tobacco (PSMT) (23.57% and 23.83%, respectively). Multiple models were conducted to analyze the N application rate for maximum yield and PSMT, respectively, resulting in an optimum range from 90 to 100 kg N ha−1. The highest yield and PSMT increments were observed with fertilizer timing (FT) applied twice, a basal fertilizer ratio (BFR) exceeding 50%, and a soil pH below 6.5. The nicotine content escalated with increasing N application rates (NR) and soil nitrogen content, peaking at NR over 120 kg N ha−1 and soil total nitrogen (TN) above 2 g kg−1. Stepwise regression modeling indicated that nicotine content was positively influenced by fertilizer management factors (including NR, fertilizer timing, and BFR), as well as initial soil nitrogen content (AN and TN). However, it was negatively correlated with available potassium (AK). Therefore, the results of this meta-analysis suggest that effective fertilizer management, slightly acidic soils enriched with AK, and lower N supply capacity are crucial for enhancing leaf quality while reducing nicotine content.
