Recent studies have revealed the important role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in heart development and pathogenesis. This study was aimed to investigate the role of NEAT1 in hypoxia-induced cardiac injury and explore its possible molecular mechanism. Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) was used to determine the relative RNA expression of NEAT1 and its potential target microRNA, miR-129-5p, in the plasma of patients with acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and angina, as well as in H2O2-treated H9c2 cells. The role of NEAT1 overexpression or inhibition in H9c2 cell migration and proliferation was assessed by transwell assay and Edu staining, respectively. Collagen deposition and apoptosis were evaluated by Western blot detection of collagen and apoptotic proteins, including Capase3, Bax, and Bcl2. We showed that H2O2 treatment significantly decreased H9c2 cell migration and proliferation while increasing H9c2 cell apoptosis. Inhibition of NEAT1 attenuated the cell apoptosis and alleviated proliferation inhibition induced by hypoxia. Bioinformatics analysis showed that miR-129-5p was the direct target of NEAT1, which was confirmed by luciferase assay. NEAT1 upregulation aggravated apoptosis by downregulating miR-129-5p. In conclusion, we uncovered a novel NEAT1-miR-129 axis and its implication in H2O2-induced heart failure.

Bupleuri Radix, serving as the sovereign medicinal in many antidepressant compound preparations, has been proved effective in treating depression in mice, but its effect on the intestinal flora remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of Bupleurum chinense(one of the original materials of Bupleuri Radix) on the behaviors and the diversity of intestinal flora of depressed mice. A depression mouse model was induced by repeated social defeat stress. Specifically, C57 BL/6 J male mice were exposed to the attack from the CD-1 mice. Then, C57 BL/6 J male mice were divided into a depression group and a B. chinense group, with normal saline and B. chinense administered(ig) respectively. Sucrose preference test and tail suspension test were conducted during and after the experiment respectively, to analyze the effects of B. chinense on the behaviors of the depressed mice. The feces were collected after the experiment. The V3-V4 16 S rDNA regions of intestinal flora of mice in each group were sequenced by Ion S5 TMXL for the analysis of the number of operational taxonomic units(OTUs), richness, alpha and beta diversity indexes, and differential phyla and genera. The results indicated that B. chinense could decrease depressive-like behaviors of mice, increase sucrose preference, and shorten the time of immobility in tail suspension test. After B. chinense intervention, the relative abundance of Firmicutes was significantly decreased, while that of Bacteroidetes was increased at the phylum level. At the genus level, the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and Lachnoclostridium decreased(Plt;0.05), while that of Bacteroides, Alistopes, etc. was elevated(Plt;0.05). The findings demonstrate that B. chinense can regulate the intestinal flora and improve the depressive-like behaviors of mice with depression.

The location of perianal abscesses and the course of the fistula follow certain patterns, especially in the relationship between external and internal openings. However, it is still not clear how the contents of the ischioanal fossa, especially the fibrous network of fat tissue, affect the route for such diseases. Ten male adult cadavers were selected for the study. Seven horizontal transverse section planes from 1 cm above the pubic symphysis to the inferior border of the lesser trochanter of the femur were recorded after P45 sheet plastination. We observed characteristics of fiber distribution in the ischioanal fossa and its relationship with surrounding structures in every plane. There was a dense strip-type fiber connecting with junction fascia between the obturator internus and gluteus maximus muscles. Close to the levator ani, obturator internus, and gluteus maximus, the fibers were very dense and continuous with the fascia on the surfaces of these three muscles. The function of the fibrous network was considered to be not only the support of fat tissue in the fossa but also cushioning during physiological actions such as defecation. We hope that these morphological results could help to elucidate the passage of fistulae and the locations susceptible to perianal abscesses. Clin. Rationale: Rivaroxaban has numerous advantages over traditional anticoagulation therapy. Fixed doses can be administered without requiring routine monitoring of coagulation, and anticoagulation efficacy is more predictable. Safety, including fewer drug interactions, and reduced bleeding, is also improved with rivaroxaban based on current recommendations. The goal of this report was to explore if low-dose rivaroxaban 10 mg once daily was effective in an elderly patient who developed minor bleeding when treated with rivaroxaban (10 mg twice daily) for a pulmonary embolism. Patient concerns: We present an 88-year-old female with dyspnea and fatigue, which became increasingly worse over a month in the absence of medication. Her weight was 64 kg. Routine coagulation assays and renal function were normal at time of admission. Diagnosis: Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism were confirmed by venous compression ultrasonography and computed tomography pulmonary angiography. Interventions: Oral rivaroxaban 10 mg twice daily was administered, but the patient developed hemoptysis and gum bleeding 5 days later. The dose of rivaroxaban was reduced to 10 mg once daily, and bleeding gradually disappeared after 3 days. Outcome: At follow-up 90 days after treatment, the patient reported no discomfort. Venous compression ultrasonography and computed tomography pulmonary angiography showed normal results; therefore, treatment was terminated. Lessons: Elderly patients exhibit variable tolerance of anticoagulants, warranting careful consideration of the risk of bleeding. Low-dose rivaroxaban was an effective treatment for pulmonary embolism in the elderly patient presented here.

Recently, several studies reported the association between miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism and coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. However, the results were inconclusive. We therefore did a meta-analysis to investigate this association. Electronic databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases, were searched. The strength of association was assessed by calculating odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Five eligible studies included in this meta-analysis. The total sample size of this meta-analysis was 1565 cases and 1541 controls. We found that miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was significantly associated with an increased CAD risk (OR = 1.19; 95% CI 1.07 – 1.32; P = 0.002). In the subgroup analysis by race, miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was significantly associated with an increased CAD risk in Asians (OR = 1.18; 95% CI 1.04 – 1.33; P = 0.008). However, we did not find significant result in Caucasians (OR = 1.22; 95% CI 0.86 – 1.74; P = 0.25). In the subgroup analysis by age, we found that miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism increased CAD risk in old population (OR = 1.22; 95% CI 1.09 – 1.38; P = 0.0008). In conclusion, this meta-analysis found that miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was significantly associated with CAD risk.

Exploration of the reactivity of the versatile polyoxometalate precursor [β2-SiW11O39]8 − with lanthanide cations, transition-metal cations, carbonate, and morpholine, afforded a group of new appended cubanes {LnMnIII4} (Ln = HoIII, TmIII, YbIII, SmIII, GdIII, ErIII and CeIV). The appended cubanes {LnMnIII4} were encapsulated by two inorganic polyoxometalate ligands, resulting in a series of heterometallic cluster-based sandwich-type compounds: K10Na3[{LnIIIMnIII4(μ3-O)2(μ2-OH)2(H2O)(CO3)}(β-SiW8O31)2]·xH2O (Ln = HoIII, x = 24 for 1; Ln = TmIII, x = 22 for 2; Ln = YbIII, x = 21 for 3); K7Na6[{LnIIIMnIII4(μ3-O)2(μ2-OH)2(H2O)(CO3)}(β-SiW8O31)2]·xH2O (Ln = SmIII, x = 22 for 4; Ln = GdIII, x = 20 for 5; Ln = ErIII, x = 22 for 6) and K7Na5[{CeIVMnIII4(μ3-O)2(μ2-OH)2(H2O)(CO3)}(β-SiW8O31)2]·24H2O (7), which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, IR spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. Electrocatalytic study reveals that these compounds exhibited the activity of electrocatalytic reduction of sodium nitrite.

A new sandwich-type tungstoantimonate (NH 4 ) 9 {Cu 3 Sb(H 2 O) 3 (SbW 9 O 33 ) 2 }·22H 2 O ( 1 ) was synthesized by reaction of the preformed large cluster [NaSb 9 W 21 O 86 ] 18 − ({Sb 9 W 21 }) and transition-metal cations. Compound 1 is a 3d–5p heterometallic cluster-containing sandwich-type tungstoantimonate, which was further connected by the H-bonding interactions into a (4, 4)-connected two dimensional (2D) supramolecular framework. Further, the introduction of the alkali metal cations into the reaction system leads to a 2D framework based on the sandwich-type tungstoantimonate by water substitution: Na(NH 4 ) 9 {SbCu 3 Cl(SbW 9 O 33 ) 2 }·14H 2 O ( 2 ).

The new compounds (VI) and (VIII) are characterized by single crystal XRD, IR and UV spectroscopy, and electrocatalytic investigations.

To evaluate the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension and its risk factors in Dehui City of Jilin Province in China. The study was performed among 3778 subjects (male=1787) in Dehui city, Jilin Province of China. The subjects completed a standard questionnaire, biochemical tests and physical examinations. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify risk factors for hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension was 41.00% in this area. The awareness, treatment and the control of hypertension were 21.82, 15.56 and 1.10%, respectively, with city areas being significantly higher than rural areas. Significant risk factors for hypertension included age, sex, central obesity, alcohol consumption, family history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, education level and type of work. Further analysis showed that diabetes for urban participants and cigarette smoking for rural participants were risk factors but were not statistically significant at the multi-variate level. The prevalence of hypertension in Dehui Ctiy of Jilin Province is higher than in other areas of China. In addition, rates of awareness and treatment of the condition are much lower than in other populations, with the control rate only 1.10%.
