7. Dual‐Protective Role of PM475: Bolstering Anode and Cathode Stability in Lithium Metal Batteries.

Abstract

The increasing demand for high‐energy storage solutions has brought attention to the limitations of commercial Lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). While Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) hold promise as an alternative, their practical use is hindered by interface instability in both the lithium anode and Ni‐rich layered cathode during cycling. In this study, a cost‐effective is introduced, bifunctional film‐forming additive: polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PM475). PM475, a long‐chain organic molecule rich in oxygen‐containing functional groups, can create a flexible and stable protective interface on both the lithium metal anode and Ni‐rich Li[NixCoyMn1−x−y]O2 (NCM) cathode. This PM475 enhances the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) components on the lithium anode, effectively suppressing the growth of lithium dendrites. Furthermore, it establishes a uniform interface layer on the Ni‐rich NCM cathode, significantly improving battery cycle life. Consequently, the Li||Li symmetric cell can endure 400 h of cycling at 2 mA cm−2, and the Li||NCM811 full cell exhibits an impressive capacity retention increase from 44.3% to 88.4% after 250 cycles at 1 C under a high cathode load of 20 mg cm−2. Abstract

Amino-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-NH2) was synthesized by grafting (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane on the graphene oxide (GO) surface. The GO-NH2 with high surface area and numerous active sites can efficiently adsorb Cr(VI), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions. The maximum adsorption capacities of GO-NH2 for Cr(VI), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) were 280.11, 26.25, 71.89 and 10.04 mg g−1, respectively. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were employed to describe the kinetic processes. The experimental data agreed well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation, and the adsorption of heavy metals onto GO-NH2 occurs via chemical adsorption. The characteristics of Cr(VI), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cd(II) in the GO-NH2 adsorption processes were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption processes of Pb(II) and Cd(II) on GO-NH2 were fit by the Langmuir model. The Freundlich isotherm model was well correlated to Cr(VI) and Cu(II). The GO-NH2 is a promising material for the removal of heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater. This study provides an effective pathway to process industrial wastewater, and the GO-NH2 has a good adsorption effect for the treatment of heavy metals in industrial wastewater.

43. High‐Resolution Intrashell Oxygen Isotope Studies of Cathaica fasciolaand Bradybaena ravidaLand Snails and Their Environmental Implications

Abstract

Intrashell oxygen isotope (δ18Os) analyses of terrestrial snails have been carried out over two decades. However, the intraspecies/interspecies differences are not yet well understood. Here, we conducted a high‐resolution intrashell δ18Osstudy on 43 shells from Cathaica fasciolaand Bradybaena ravida, and 1449 δ18Osdata were obtained. These large amounts of data demonstrate the reproducibility of intrashell δ18Os. Our results suggest that C. fasciolaand B. ravidahave similar growing seasons mainly from March to October in the studied region. The ecological habits of the two species could explain the distinctive variations in their δ18Ossequences. Therefore, our study may interpret the discrepancy between the studies of land snail species and the stable/clumped isotopes of their shells. Moreover, the calculated average growth rate is ∼290 μm/day (from 250 to 330 μm/day) for nonadult C. fasciola. Thus, the use of snail shells for reconstructing high‐resolution terrestrial climate changes is promising. Land snails are sensitive to climatic and environmental changes. Therefore, the oxygen isotopic composition of snail shells (δ18Os) has often been used to study environmental changes. Researchers started to collect multiple samples from a single shell for δ18Osanalyses about two decades ago. However, it is still unclear whether high‐resolution intrashell δ18Osresults are repeatable and whether the influences of different individuals/species may exist. To address these issues, we collected 43 snail shells from Cathaica fasciolaand Bradybaena ravida. In total, 1449 δ18Osdata were obtained. The large amount of data showing similar variations in the intrashell δ18Osfrom different shells demonstrates the repeatability. Accordingly, our data suggest that the two species have similar growing seasons, mainly from March to October, although their ecological habits are different. In addition, the ecological habits of these two species could explain the subtle differences in their δ18Os. Taken together, our study could resolve the discrepancy between previous work on land snail species and stable/clumped isotopes. Furthermore, the estimated average growth rate is ∼290 μm/day (from 250 to 330 μm/day) for nonadult C. fasciola. Overall, snail shells are promising records for exploring high‐resolution terrestrial climate changes in the future. 46. A Versatile Strategy for the Controlled Synthesis of Atomically Precise Palladium Nanoclusters.

Abstract

The study of the structures, applications, and structure‐property relationships of atomically precise metal nanoclusters relies heavily on their controlled synthesis. Although great progress has been made in the controlled synthesis of Group 11 (Cu, Ag, Au) metal nanoclusters, the preparation of Pd nanoclusters remains a grand challenge. Herein, a new, simple, and versatile synthetic strategy for the controlled synthesis of Pd nanoclusters is reported with tailorable structures and functions. The synthesis strategy involves the controllable transformations of Pd4(CO)4(CH3COO)4 in air, allowing the discovery of a family of Pd nanoclusters with well‐defined structure and high yield. For example, by treating the Pd4(CO)4(CH3COO)4 with 2,2‐dipyridine ligands, two clusters of Pd4 and Pd10 whose metal framework describes the growth of vertex‐sharing tetrahedra have been selectively isolated. Interestingly, chiral Pd4 nanoclusters can be gained by virtue of customized chiral pyridine‐imine ligands, thus representing a pioneering example to shed light on the hierarchical chiral nanostructures of Pd. This synthetic methodology also tolerates a wide variety of ligands and affords phosphine‐ligated Pd nanoclusters in a simple way. It is believed that the successful exploration of the synthetic strategy would simulate the research enthusiasm on both the synthesis and application of atomically precise Pd nanoclusters.
