Change detection between images of pre-flood and flooding periods is a critical process for flood mapping using satellite images. Flood mapping from SAR images is based on backscattering coefficient differences. The change rules of the backscattering coefficient with different flooding depths of ground objects are essential prior knowledge for flood mapping, while their absence greatly limits the precision. Therefore, minimizing the backscattering coefficient differences caused by non-flood factors is of great significance for improving the accuracy of flood mapping. In this paper, non-flood factor influences, i.e., monthly variations of ground objects and polarization and satellite orbits, on the backscattering coefficient are studied with multi-temporal Sentinel-1 images for five ground objects in Kouzi Village, Shouguang City, Shandong Province, China. Sentinel-1 images in different rainfalls are used to study the variation of the backscattering coefficient with flooding depths. Since it is difficult to measure the flooding depth of historical rainfall events, a hydrological analysis based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) is used to estimate the flooding depth. The results showed that the monthly variations of the maximum backscattering coefficients of farmland and construction and the backscattering coefficient differences caused by the satellite orbit were larger than the minimum backscattering coefficient differences caused by inundation. The flood extraction rules of five objects based on Sentinel-1 were obtained and analyzed, which improved flood extraction knowledge from qualitative to semi-quantitative analysis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common pathogens that lead to fatal human infection. This Gram-negative pathogen has evolved complex drug resistance, which poses significant challenges to the current antibiotic-dependent healthcare system. New therapeutic approaches are urgently required to treat infections caused by P. aeruginosa. Inspired by ferroptosis, the antibacterial effects of iron compounds on P. aeruginosa via direct exposure were investigated. In addition, thermal-responsive hydrogels to carry FeCl 3 were developed as a wound dressing to treat P. aeruginosa -induced wound infection in a mouse model. The results showed that 200 µM FeCl 3 killed more than 99.9% of P. aeruginosa cells. FeCl 3 -mediated cell death in P. aeruginosa was associated with hallmarks of ferroptosis in mammalian cells, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage. Catalase or Fe2+ chelator alleviated FeCl 3 -mediated cell death, indicating that H 2 O 2 and labile Fe2+ induced the Fenton reaction leading to cell death. Further proteomics analysis showed that proteins related to glutathione (GSH) synthesis and the glutathione peroxidase (GPX) family were significantly downregulated after FeCl 3 treatment, which is equivalent to GPX4 inactivation in mammalian cells. The therapeutic effect of FeCl 3 on P. aeruginosa was further evaluated in a mouse wound infection model using polyvinyl alcohol-boric acid (PB) hydrogels as a carrier of FeCl 3. FeCl 3 -PB hydrogels completely cleared pus on wounds and promoted wound healing. The global cold chain logistics market is witnessing a significant upswing, driven by the rising demand for perishable food products and increasing shipment volumes worldwide. Technological advancements are leading to a more intelligent and digitally enabled cold chain logistics system. However, the high loss rate of fresh agricultural products in China poses a significant threat to the country's food security. Therefore, it is imperative to explore innovative solutions, such as blockchain, to address the challenges of traditional cold chain logistics. In this paper, inspired by the prospect theory and evolutionary game theory, we propose an evolutionary game model to analyze the behavioral strategies of the tripartite of n-level cold chain participants, consumers, and government. Using MATLAB software, the numerical simulation of the game path of this tripartite theory is conducted, and the influence of variable parameters on the evolutionary process and outcomes of the system is analyzed. The results the following: (1) The development of an effective cold chain supply chain system can be divided into three stages, and blockchain technology plays a pivotal role in creating a seamless cold chain environment. The cost of blockchain adoption, government rewards, as well as penalties can significantly influence the behavioral choices of the three stakeholders. (2) The behavior of individual cold chain participants has a strong negative externality, which can impact the behavior of others. We also find that the larger the scale of the cold chain, the lower the probability of default by the participants. (3) The government's adoption of blockchain technology and the implementation of effective incentive policies can foster the successful development of the cold chain blockchain infrastructure. Our research contributes to the theoretical understanding of cold chain logistics decision making and policy creation for the tripartite stakeholders, including cold chain participants, consumers, and government. Assessment of urban water logging risk depth is mainly based on extreme value of rainstorm and its occurrence frequency as disaster causing factor. Regional waterlogging disaster risk assessment can be determined through regional geographic spatial information coupling calculation; the fundamental reason lies in the lack of an effective method for numerical simulation of waterlogging risk depth. Based on the hydrodynamic principle, FloodArea model realizes the numerical simulation of regional waterlogging depth by hydrologic calculating of runoff generation and runoff concentration of waterlogging. Taking risk assessment in Nanchang city as an example, spatial distribution of urban waterlogging depth was simulated by using FloodArea model in return period of 5 years, 10 years, 50 years, and 100 years. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) initiated by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a complicated process. MiR‐155 can alter the immune microenvironment to affect the host's anti‐infective ability. This study investigated the mechanism by which miR‐155 affects tumour‐associated macrophage (TAM) polarization at a molecular level, thus affecting the malignant progression of HBV+HCC. MiR‐155 and TAM‐related cytokine expression were analysed by qRT‐PCR. The distribution of TAMs was detected by immunohistochemistry. The effect of the aberrant miR‐155 expression on macrophage polarization was examined by flow cytometry. The targeted relationship was verified by dual‐luciferase assay, and the protein level of src homology 2 domain‐containing inositol polyphosphate 5‐phosphatase 1 (SHIP1) was detected by western blot. The proliferation of HCC cells was examined by CCK‐8 and colony formation assays. Invasion and migration of HCC cells were detected by transwell assay. In HBV+HCC tissues, miR‐155 was significantly highly expressed and the number of CD206‐positive TAM (CD206+ TAM) and CD68‐positive TAM (CD68+ TAM) were higher than those in HBV−HCC tissues. In addition, miR‐155 overexpression significantly promoted M2‐type macrophage polarization, whilst miR‐155 silencing expression significantly promoted M1‐type macrophage polarization. Besides, the miR‐155/SHIP1 axis accelerated HCC cell invasion, proliferation and migration by inducing M2‐type macrophage polarization. MiR‐155 accelerates HCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion by targeting SHIP1 expression and inducing macrophage M2 polarization. Tea is consumed widely around the world owing to its refreshing taste and potential health benefits. However, drinking tea is considered a major route for dietary aluminum exposure in areas where tea consumption is relatively large. To assess the health risk associated with drinking tea, the contamination level of aluminum was determined in 81 tea samples. The transfer rate of aluminum during tea brewing was investigated. Then based on the site-specific exposure parameters such as consumption data and body weight for six different subpopulations in Fujian, the exposure risks were estimated using a probabilistic approach. Results demonstrate that the contents of aluminum in green tea, white tea, oolong tea, and black tea were significantly different according to the one-way ANOVA analysis (p < 0.05). The transfer rate of aluminum were 32.6%, 31.6%, 26.3%, and 14% for white tea, black tea, oolong tea, and green tea, respectively. Reduction of C = C bonds by reductases, found in a variety of microorganisms (e.g. yeasts, bacteria, and lower fungi), animals, and plants has applications in the production of metabolites that include pharmacologically active drugs and other chemicals. Therefore, the reductase enzymes that mediate this transformation have become important therapeutic targets and biotechnological tools. These reductases are broad-spectrum, in that, they can act on isolation/conjugation C = C-bond compounds, α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids, acid derivatives, and nitro compounds. In addition, several mutations in the reductase gene have been identified, some associated with diseases. Several of these reductases have been cloned and/or purified, and studies to further characterize them and determine their structure in order to identify potential industrial biocatalysts are still in progress. In this study, crucial reductases for bioreduction of C = C bonds have been reviewed with emphasis on their principal substrates and effective inhibitors, their distribution, genetic polymorphisms, and implications in human disease and treatment. The estimation of non-stationary random medium parameters of petrophysical parameters is the key to the application of random medium theory in fine seismic exploration. We proposed a method for estimating non-stationary random medium parameters of petrophysical parameters using seismic data. Based on the linear petrophysical model, the relationship between seismic data and porosity, clay volume, and water saturation in the random medium was described, and the principle and method of estimating the autocorrelation parameters of the petrophysical parameter random medium were introduced in this study. Subsequently, the specific steps of applying the power spectrum method, for parameter estimation in non-stationary random media with petrophysical parameters, were explained. The feasibility and correctness of the method were verified through the estimation test of the two-dimensional theoretical model. Eventually, the estimation test of non-stationary random medium parameters of petrophysical parameters was carried out by field seismic data, and the results indicated that the non-stationary random medium parameters can better portray the information of subsurface medium petrophysical parameters. The method can provide a reference for the construction of a priori information on petrophysical parameters, and it can also provide a theoretical basis for the in-depth application of random medium theory to practical data. The present study aimed to assess the expression level of adenylate kinase 4 (AK4) in human serous ovarian cancer (SOC) tissues and investigate the possible involvement of AK4 in SOC progression. Bioinformatics analysis based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and immunohistochemical (IHC) assays were performed to assess the expression level of AK4 in human SOC tissues. Clinical pathological features of patients with SOC were also evaluated. Colony formation, MTT, wound healing and Transwell assays were conducted to investigate the effects of AK4 on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SOC cells in vitro. Mouse xenograft and lung metastasis models were developed to evaluate the effects of AK4 on tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. High expression levels of AK4 were identified in human SOC tissues compared with in normal tissues according to TCGA database and the results of IHC assays. A contribution of AK4 to tumor growth and metastasis of SOC cells in vivo was also shown. The present study confirmed the involvement of AK4 in the progression of SOC, and the results indicated that AK4 could serve as a novel therapeutic target for SOC treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rapid flood mapping is crucial in hazard evaluation and forecasting, especially in the early stage of hazards. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are able to penetrate clouds and heavy rainfall, which is of special importance for flood mapping. However, change detection is a key part and the threshold selection is very complex in flood mapping with SAR. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to rapidly map flood regions and estimate the flood degree, avoiding the critical step of thresholding. It converts the change detection of thresholds to land cover backscatter classifications. Sentinel-1 SAR images are used to get the land cover backscatter classifications with the help of Sentinel-2 optical images using a supervised classifier. A pixel-based change detection is used for change detection. Backscatter characteristics and variation rules of different ground objects are essential prior knowledge for flood analysis. SAR image classifications of pre-flood and flooding periods both take the same input to make sense of the change detection between them. This method avoids the inaccuracy caused by a single threshold. A case study in Shouguang is tested by this new method, which is compared with the flood map extracted by Otsu thresholding and normalized difference water index (NDWI) methods. The results show that our approach can identify the flood beneath vegetation well. Sensitive, simple and quick methods for determination of dinotefuran, cyromazine, and the metabolites 1-methyl-3-(tetrahydro-3-furylmethyl) guanidine (DN), 1-methyl-3-(tetrahydro-3-furylmethyl) urea (UF), and melamine in Agrocybe aegerita were established and validated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The dissipation and residues of these compounds in A. aegerita were investigated. The field results showed that dinotefuran and cyromazine dissipated rapidly with half-lives ranging from 24.9 h to 38.5 h. The terminal residues of total dinotefuran (the sum of dinotefuran and its metabolites), cyromazine, and melamine in fresh mushroom samples collected with sampling intervals of 3 d to 6 d ranged from 0.089 to 0.652 mg/kg, 0.593 to 2.054 mg/kg, and 0.002 to 0.005 mg/kg, respectively. During the drying processes of A. aegerita, the processing factors of dinotefuran, cyromazine, DN, UF, and melamine were 0.028, 0.012, 0.301, 0.002, and 0.001, respectively. Given that cyromazine and dinotefuran are not registered for use on A. aegerita , dietary risk was assessed. Based on a consumption survey, risk quotient (RQ) values significantly below 1 implied that the risk of A. aegerita consumption was acceptable, although the risk for children was relatively higher. The findings could provide valuable guidance for the appropriate use of these insecticides in A. aegerita cultivation and serve as a scientific reference for setting corresponding maximum residue limits (MRL) in China. In this work, a latent energy‐transfer process in traditional Eu3+,Tb3+‐doped phosphors is proposed and a new class of Eu3+,Tb3+‐doped Na4CaSi3O9 (NCSO) phosphors is presented which is enabled by luminescence decay dynamics that optimize the electron‐transfer energy process. Relative to other Eu3+,Tb3+‐doped phosphors, the as‐synthesized Eu3+,Tb3+‐doped NCSO phosphors show improved large‐scale tunable emission color from green to red upon UV excitation, controlled by the Tb3+/Eu3+ doping ratio. Detailed spectroscopic measurements in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV)/UV/Vis region were used to determine the Eu3+–O2− charge‐transfer energy, 4f–5d transition energies, and the energies of 4f excited multiplets of Eu3+ and Tb3+ with different 4fN electronic configurations. The Tb3+→Eu3+ energy‐transfer pathway in the co‐doped sample was systematically investigated, by employing luminescence decay dynamics analysis to elucidate the relevant energy‐transfer mechanism in combination with the appropriate model simulation. To demonstrate their application potential, a prototype white‐light‐emitting diode (WLED) device was successfully fabricated by using the yellow luminescence NCSO:0.03Tb3+, 0.05Eu3+ phosphor with high thermal stability and a BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor in combination with a near‐UV chip. Low-carbon agriculture is a crucial component of sustainable development; technological innovation is the cornerstone of the agricultural transformation towards low-carbon production. This study developed a tripartite evolutionary game model for agricultural enterprise, university, and the government. It examined the low-carbon technology innovation of the agricultural innovation from an innovation consortium's perspective, considering the dilemma that China's low-carbon agriculture development faces owing to the lack of a single subject's innovation capability. The simulation's outcomes indicated: (1) The increase in collaborative innovation revenue, default costs (three–six times), and additional social benefits of collaborative innovation effectively promoted the evolutionary game results to (1,1,1), which means agricultural enterprises and universities choose collaborative innovation, and the government chooses to provide subsidies; (2) Enhancing innovation subsidies influenced game outcomes to a certain degree, but the effect was limited. To begin with, the relationship between seismic data and random medium p-wave velocity, s-wave velocity, density model in random medium is described, and the principle and method of estimating the parameters of autocorrelation function of random medium are introduced in this paper. Subsequently, the specific steps of applying the power spectrum method for non-stationary random media parameter estimation are also presented. The feasibility and correctness of the method are verified through the estimation test of the two-dimensional theoretical model. Eventually, the estimation test of non-stationary random medium parameters is carried out by field seismic data. The results show that the non-stationary random medium parameters can better describe the elastic parameter information of the subsurface media and provide a reference for the initial model construction of the elastic parameters, reflecting that the method has good application prospects. Compared with previous studies, this method extends the random medium parameter estimation from stationary to non-stationary and from single wave impedance random medium parameter to multi-elastic parameter random medium parameters. It provides a basis for the in-depth application of random media theory in field data. Meanwhile, this estimation method based on the power spectrum method has the advantage of being intuitive and easy to interpret. The objective of this study was to evaluate the residues of 42 pesticides subject to public concern in Tieguanyin tea produced in Fujian, China. The presence of 42 pesticide residues in 90 Tieguanyin tea samples were determined. A total of 17 pesticides were detected. At least one pesticide residue was detected in 65 samples (72.2%). The detected pesticides imidacloprid, tolfenpyrad, bifenthrin, acetamiprid were found in 55.6%, 33.3%, 18.9% and 16.7% of samples, respectively. Pesticide residues in Tieguanyin tea varied significantly over the seasons and across the production regions. Based on data obtained, the health risks associated with long-term exposure to those pesticides were assessed and risks of detected pesticides were ranked. The hazard quotients (HQs) among the detected pesticides range from 5 × 10−8 for fenpropathrin to 3 × 10−4 for imidacloprid. The results demonstrated that despite a high occurrence of pesticide residues in Tieguanyin tea, residue levels observed could not be considered as a serious public health problem. The risk ranking scheme showed dicofol and thiacloprid were considered to pose a medium-risk. The suggestions for 17 detected pesticides used in Tieguanyin tea plantation were made, including those already banned from use in China (dicofol and methomyl), recommended for diminished use (thiacloprid and chlorpyrifos), and permitted use with considering the pre-harvest interval (13 other pesticides). Perchlorate is known as a thyroid disrupter. Its contamination in various tea samples was monitored, and 286 samples belonging to four types of tea leaves were analysed. The detection rate of perchlorate in tea was 99.3%. The mean concentration in different tea types decreased in order from green tea, oolong tea, white tea to black tea. A probabilistic approach was performed to evaluate the dietary exposure of perchlorate for six different subpopulations. The daily intakes (EDIs) for consumers over the age of 41 were higher than that of other subpopulations. The hazard quotient for six groups was lower than 1 even at the extreme percentile (P99). It indicates that the risk of dietary exposure to perchlorate from tea consumption for Fujian people is acceptable without considering other foodstuffs. ABSTRACT Fluoxetine (FLX) is one of the most widely prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Although FLX is used as racemate in the clinic, the clinical pharmacokinetics of FLX and its N-demethylation metabolite norfluoxetine (NFLX) show obvious cytochrome P450 (CYP) polymorphism dependency and exhibit marked stereoselectivity. However, the kinetic profiles of CYP variants to FLX remain unclear. In the present study, some variants of human CYP2C8, CYP2C9, and CYP2D6 were first expressed in insect cells, and their catalytic roles with respect to FLX enantiomers were then investigated. CYP2C8.4 and CYP2C9.10 showed significantly lower activity and CYP2C8.3 showed significantly higher activity toward both R- and S-FLX compared with the wildtype, while CYP2C9.3, CYP2C9.13, and CYP2C9.16 showed significantly lower activity only toward R-FLX. Five CYP2C9 variants and CYP2D6.1 exhibited significantly stereoselective kinetic profiles prior to R-FLX, and CYP2C8.3 showed a slight stereoselectivity. Interestingly, obvious substrate inhibition was observed in the CYP2C9 wildtype and its three variants only in the case of R-FLX. Together, these findings suggest that CYP2C9 and CYP2D6 polymorphism may play an important role in the clearance of FLX and also in the stereoselective kinetic profiles of FLX enantiomers. White tea has been of increasing public interest worldwide owing to its health benefits. Based on 2 years of surveillance, the long‐term and cumulative chronic exposure risks of pesticide residues through white tea drinking were assessed for different subpopulations in Fujian, China. Twenty‐five different pesticides were found, and 74.8% of samples contained at least one pesticide residue. The most frequently detected pesticide was bifenthrin with detection rates of 61.6%. Risk assessment was performed using both the deterministic approach and semiprobabilistic model under the best‐case and the worst‐case scenarios. The results demonstrated that the dietary risks were extremely low for six different subpopulations in which the risks for adults over the age of 41 were relatively higher. The risk ranking scheme indicated that isocarbophos and triazophos were considered to be of medium risk. The different use suggestions for the 25 positive pesticides are proposed to further minimize the exposure risk to consumer health. Environmental issues have become global challenges, so seeking an economic model to reach environmental sustainability is essential. As an emerging economic model, green finance is considered the most effective tool in promoting low-carbon economic transition. China, the largest economy among developing countries, faces environmental inferiority and increasing energy demand. This paper aims to discuss the effects of green finance on the low-carbon economic transition. This paper makes the policy of green financial reform and innovation pilot zones a quasi-natural experiment. It employs difference-in-differences (DID) model to analyze the impact of green finance on the low-carbon economic transition. This paper found that the low-carbon economic transition achieved good results within experimental zones after establishing a pilot zone for green finance reform and innovation. Furthermore, the parallel trend test results, complicatedly disturbing facts mitigating provincial differences, and placebo tests are still valid. Finally, we found that low-carbon economic transition solely takes effect significantly in eastern and central areas but is not significant in western areas. • A Tb3+-activated K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 phosphor has been successfully synthesized. • K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 :Tb3+ shows from cyan to green fluorescent emission under near-UV excitation. • The electron population mechanisms of Tb3+ 5D 3 and 5D 4 multiplets were proposed. • The K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 :Tb3+ exhibits the superior thermal stability. Herein, we present a series of novel Tb3+-activated K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 phosphors prepared by a simple solid phase reaction process. Owing to the characteristic 5D 3 /5D 4 -7F J transitions of Tb3+, the Tb3+-activated K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 phosphors possess a green emission under near-UV excitation and high thermal quenching temperature (>500 K). The temperature/concentration-dependent luminescence and decay properties of K 4 SrSi 3 O 9 :Tb3+ further elucidate the effects of cross relaxation, multiphonon relaxation and energy transfer processes on the luminescence of Tb3+ 5D 3 and 5D 4 levels. The electron population mechanism in the system is proposed in detail, which is expected to be generally applicable to all Tb3+-doped phosphors. Background: The relationship between betatrophin/ANGPTL8 and obesity has been investigated using body mass index (BMI); however, since BMI reflects overall adiposity rather than body fat distribution, it remains unclear whether fat deposition in different areas of the body affects betatrophin expression. Here, we investigated the correlation between circulating betatrophin levels and body fat distribution in patients with different glucose tolerance. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study in 128 participants with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT; n = 64) or normal glucose tolerance (NGT; n = 64). Circulating betatrophin levels were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Body fat distribution (subcutaneous, visceral, and limb fat) was measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a body fat meter. Results: After controlling for age, sex, and BMI, betatrophin was correlated positively with visceral adipose tissue-to-subcutaneous adipose tissue ratio (VAT/SAT ratio; r = 0.339, p = 0.009) and negatively with body fat ratio (BFR; r = − 0.275, p = 0.035), left lower limb fat ratio (LLR; r = − 0.330, p = 0.011), and right lower limb fat ratio (RLR; r = − 0.288, p = 0.027) in the NGT group, with these correlations remaining after controlling for triglycerides. VAT/SAT ratio (standardized β = 0.419, p = 0.001) was independently associated with serum betatrophin levels; however, betatrophin was not associated with body fat distribution variables in the IGT group. Conclusions: Circulating betatrophin levels correlated positively with VAT/SAT ratio and negatively with lower limb fat, but not with subcutaneous or upper limb fat, in individuals with normal glucose tolerance. A Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium with monopolar flagellum, designated as F51T, was isolated from the skin ulcer of farmed Murray cod sampled from Zhejiang Province, China. Strain F51T grew at 4–37 °C (optimal temperature, 28 °C), pH 5.0–8.5 (optimal pH, 7.5) and NaCl concentration of 0–6.0% (w/v) (optimal concentration, 2.0%). Phylogenetic analysis based on average nucleotide identity (76.2–78.4%) and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization (22.3–23.2%) values revealed that strain F51T forms a distinct lineage in the clade of genus Pseudomonas with less than 98.9% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to type strains of the genus and represents a novel species related most closely to Pseudomonas floridensis LMG 30013T. Three housekeeping genes (rpoB, rpoD and gyrB) of strain F51T were analysed to further confirm that the isolate is distinctly delineated from related Pseudomonas species. Chemotaxonomic analysis indicated that the sole respiratory quinone of strain F51T is Q-9; its predominant cellular fatty acids are C16:0, summed feature 3 (iso-C15:0 2-OH and/or C16:1ω7c), summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c) and C10:0 3-OH; and its major polar lipids consist of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified glycolipids, three unidentified phospholipids and an unidentified aminophosphoglycolipid. This composition is typical of the chemotaxonomic attributes of Pseudomonas. Based on its phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic features, strain F51T is considered to represent a novel species for which the name Pseudomonas ovata sp. nov. is proposed. The absence of nocturnal blood pressure (BP) decline is associated with hypertensive complications. Data regarding circadian BP patterns in patients with aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) are limited and equivocal. We evaluated the circadian BP profile in patients with APA and its relationship with the circadian aldosterone rhythm. BP in patients with APA and in those with essential hypertension (EH) were assessed through in-hospital 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Over a 24-h in-hospital period, plasma aldosterone levels taken at midnight, 0400, 0800, 1200, 1600, and 2000 h were measured. To evaluate a correlation between BP and hormone rhythm, we included 27 patients with APA (APA group) and 27 patients with EH (EH group). Both groups had similar age, sex ratio, body mass index, duration of hypertension, family history of hypertension, and lipid profiles. The day-night BP differences in both patient groups were similar, whether expressed as absolute values or percentages. The proportions of patients with dipping BP profiles were also comparable (APA group, 5 of 27; EH group, 7 of 27; χ2 = 0.429; P = 0.513). At each time point, APA group plasma aldosterone concentrations (PACs) were higher than those of the EH group. A circadian change in relation to PAC was observed in both groups. A correlation between PAC and BP was statistically nonsignificant in most study patients in either group. Protein-nucleic acid interactions are not only fundamental to genetic regulation and cellular metabolism, but molecular basis to artificial biosensors. However, such interactions are generally weak and dynamic, making their specific and sensitive quantitative detection challenging. By using primer exchange reaction (PER)-amplified protein-nucleic acid interactions, we here design a universal and ultrasensitive electrochemical sensor to quantify microRNAs (miRNAs) in blood. This PER-miR sensor leverages specific recognition between S9.6 antibodies and miRNA/DNA hybrids to couple with PER-derived multi-enzyme catalysis for ultrasensitive miRNA detection. Surface binding kinetic analysis shows a rational K d (8.9 nM) between the miRNA/DNA heteroduplex and electrode-attached S9.6 antibody. Based on such a favorable affinity, the programmable PER amplification enables the sensor to detect target miRNAs with sensitivity up to 90.5 aM, three orders of magnitude higher than that without PER in routine design, and with specificity of single-base resolution. Furthermore, the PER-miR sensor allows detecting multiple miRNAs in parallel, measuring target miRNA in lysates across four types of cell lines, and differentiating tumor patients from healthy individuals by directly analyzing the human blood samples (n = 40). This study examined the ultrastructural changes in the pulmonary mechanical barriers in a rat model of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP)-associated acute lung injury (ALI). Animals were randomized into the SAP group (n = 60) and the control group (n = 60). SAP was induced by retrograde injection of 5% taurocholic acid into the biliopancreatic duct. The morphological abnormalities assessed by histology and the lung wet/dry weight ratio and the ultrastructural abnormalities assessed by transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope examinations plus lanthanum nitrate tracing were compared between the two groups at 6, 12, and 24 h post-SAP induction (n = 10/group/time point). The SAP group had significantly greater extravascular effusion than the control group at each time point as assessed by the lung wet/dry weight ratio (p <.001). The severity of the tissue damage increased in the lung and pancreas over time in the SAP group (all p <.001). In the SAP group, ultrastructural damages to the endothelial, epithelial, and pleural barriers were apparent and the damages to the endothelial barrier were detected earlier than the other two barriers, suggesting its fundamental role in preventing the further development of SAP-associated ALI. Moreover, the ultrastructural abnormalities were detected earlier than symptoms and morphological changes. The ultrastructural damages in the endothelial, epithelial, and pleural barriers occurred in the early stage of SAP. [Display omitted] The multilevel effects of landscape composition and configuration on daytime land surface temperature (LST) has been examined. However, how 2D and 3D characteristics of building and tree hierarchically interact to influence LST and how such effects vary diurnally were yet unknown. Using thermal satellite imagery, 2D and 3D characteristics of urban landscapes, and multilevel models (i.e. the random intercept model (RIM) and the random coefficient model (RCM)), we quantified the multi-dimensional and hierarchical effects of buildings and trees on LST as well as their diurnal contrast. Our results showed that combining landscape pattern and 3D urban morphology can capture more of the variation in diurnal LST than using them separately, regardless of single-level ordinary least squares (OLS) and multilevel models. Moreover, the multilevel models performed better than OLS models in explaining the impacts of landscape pattern and 3D urban morphology on LST for both day and night, and the RCM performed better than that the RIM. During the day, the standard deviations of the residual and autocorrelation in the residual for the RCM were 1.315 and 0.131, respectively, but 1.715 and 0.312 for OLS, respectively. Similarly, a smaller autocorrelation in the residual was produced by the RCM (0.155) than by OLS (0.366) at night. The spatial heterogeneity of LST was linked tightly to the percent cover of trees and the largest patch index of tree during the day, but was primarily dominated by the edge density of the buildings and the mean building height at night. Moreover, we found significant differences in the random effects of the composition and 3D urban morphology on the LST at the block level. The random impacts of the percent cover of buildings on both daytime and nighttime LSTs varied most across urban blocks.
