Abstract

The Crab pulsar and the surrounding nebula powered by the pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind is a bright source of gamma-rays carrying crucial information about this complex conglomerate. We report the detection of $\gamma$-rays with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades, from $5\times 10^{-4}$ to $1.1$ petaelectronvolt (PeV). The ultra-high-energy photons exhibit the presence of a PeV electron accelerator (a pevatron) with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the absolute theoretical limit. Assuming that unpulsed $\gamma$-rays are produced at the termination of the pulsar's wind, we constrain the pevatron's size, between $0.025$ and $0.1$ pc, and the magnetic field $\approx 110 \mu$G. The production rate of PeV electrons, $2.5 \times 10^{36}$ erg $\rm s^{-1}$, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar's spin-down luminosity, although we do not exclude a non-negligible contribution of PeV protons to the production of the highest energy $\gamma$-rays., Comment: 43 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables; Published in Science

Abstract

The Wide Field-of-View Cherenkov Telescope Array (WFCTA) and the Water Cherenkov Detector Arrays (WCDA) of LHAASO are designed to work in combination for measuring the energy spectra of various cosmic ray species over a very wide energy range from a few TeV to 10 PeV. The energy calibration of WCDA can be achieved with a proven technique of measuring the westward shift of the Moon shadow of galactic cosmic rays due to the geomagnetic field. This deflection angle $\Delta$ is inversely proportional to the energy of the cosmic rays. The precise measurements of the shifts by WCDA allows us to calibrate its energy scale for energies as high as 35 TeV. The energy scale measured by WCDA can be used to cross calibrate the energy reconstructed by WFCTA, which spans the whole energy range up to 10 PeV. In this work, we will demonstrate the feasibility of the method using the data collected from April 2019 to January 2020 by the WFCTA array and WCDA-1 detector, the first of the three water Cherenkov ponds, already commissioned at LHAASO site.

Abstract

The focal plane camera is the core component of the Wide Field-of-view Cherenkov/fluorescence Telescope Array (WFCTA) of the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Because of the capability of working under moonlight without aging, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) have been proven to be not only an alternative but also an improvement to conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT) in this application. Eighteen SiPM-based cameras with square light funnels have been built for WFCTA. The telescopes have collected more than 100 million cosmic ray events and preliminary results indicate that these cameras are capable of working under moonlight. The characteristics of the light funnels and SiPMs pose challenges (e.g. dynamic range, dark count rate, assembly techniques). In this paper, we present the design features, manufacturing techniques and performances of these cameras. Abstract

As a sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), KM2A is mainly designed to cover a large fraction of the northern sky to hunt for gamma-ray sources at energies above 10 TeV. Even though the detector construction is still underway, a half of the KM2A array has been operating stably since the end of 2019. In this paper, we present the pipeline of KM2A data analysis and the first observation on the Crab Nebula, a standard candle in very high energy gamma-ray astronomy. We detect gamma-ray signals from the Crab Nebula in both energy ranges of 10$-$100 TeV and $>$100 TeV with high significance, by analyzing the KM2A data of 136 live days between December 2019 and May 2020. With the observations, we test the detector performance including angular resolution, pointing accuracy and cosmic ray background rejection power. The energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy range 10-250 TeV fits well with a single power-law function dN/dE =(1.13$\pm$0.05$_{stat}$$\pm$0.08$_{sys}$)$\times$10$^{-14}$$\cdot$(E/20TeV)$^{-3.09\pm0.06_{stat}\pm0.02_{sys}}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ TeV$^{-1}$. Abstract

Logistics is an important guarantee for economic and social development. Among the various aspects of logistics, the urban logistics end distribution link, which involves the direct connection between distribution personnel and customers, has a direct impact on customers' sense of experience and satisfaction with logistics services. At present, there are unscientific and unreasonable selection methods for logistics end distribution paths, often based on the subjective experience of distribution personnel, which often results in a mismatch between distribution paths and distribution needs, affecting market demand while further increasing the distribution costs of enterprises. Therefore, based on the characteristics of customer-consumers, this paper considers that consumers can select multiple receiving addresses, and each address has a corresponding time window limit. This paper finds that it needs to spend a lot of costs for the enterprise to improve the service level of distribution, and the enterprise can save the cost from time window, as well as obtain the better distribution time by using alternative addresses through the verification and analysis of an example. Based on the above analysis, this paper proposes the urban logistics terminal distribution path optimization path based on large-scale neighbourhood search algorithm, which can promote the further matching between logistics distribution enterprises and customer needs, so as to improve the probability of consumers receiving goods in time as well as reduce the cost of enterprises. 21. CT-based staging and prognosis of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pneumonia: correlation with blood glucose levels.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Based on the latest epidemic situation and field experience, this study aims to explore the correlation of computed tomography (CT) stages and blood glucose level in patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19). PATIENTS AND METHODS: The clinical data of first and multiple CT imaging re-examination and blood glucose levels from 62 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were collected for a retrospective analysis to determine the correlation between glucose level and CT-based staging. RESULTS: Of the 62 COVID-19 patients, 48 cases of early stage and 14 cases of advanced stage were found in the CT data of the first diagnosis. These 62 cases were currently under follow-up (17-32 days): 18 cases in early stage-resorption stage, 25 cases in early stage-advanced stage-resorption stage, 12 cases in advanced stage-resorption stage, 5 cases in early stage -advanced stage-severe stage-resorption stage, and 2 cases in advanced stage-severe stage-resorption stage. Among them, the CT of 14 patients with advanced stage at the first diagnosis showed multiple stage lesions (advanced stage + early stage) at the same time. Patients presented with statistically significant changes in blood glucose at early stage-resorption stage, early stage-advanced stage-resorption stage, advanced stage-resorption stage, and early stage-advanced stage-severe stage-resorption stage (p<0.05). However, no statistically significant alterations were observed in the glucose level of patients with advanced stage-severe stage-resorption stage (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Alteration of blood glucose is positively correlated with CT-based staging of COVID-19. Abstract

Bacterial canker of kiwifruit has become a serious disease problem in many countries, including China, but the causal agent in China has not yet been sufficiently characterized. In this study, the aetiology of bacterial canker was investigated in woody vines and leaves of the kiwifruit species Actinidia chinensis and A. deliciosa in the Chinese province of Shaanxi. Symptoms on woody vines appeared from September to June of the following year, and on leaves during May-July and September-October. More than 300 bacterial isolates were obtained from seven cultivars. Pure cultures were identified as Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) based on pathogenicity as well as morphological, physiological, biochemical, and genetic characteristics. In pathogenicity assays, symptoms on branches and leaves similar to those observed in the field on A. chinensis cv. Hongyang and A. deliciosa cv. Xuxiang 15 days post inoculation. The 16S rDNA sequences were 99.9% identical to those of the Psa strains available in GenBank. In addition, PCR analyses with five pairs of pathovar-specific primers provided a further proof of identification. Repetitive-sequence PCR fingerprint patterns of Psa strains isolated in Shaanxi using ERIC and BOX primer sets were consistent with those from New Zealand (2010) and Italy (2009), but slightly different from that of the Psa strain ICMP 9853 (Japan, 1984). Abstract

Highly transparent thin films were deposited on glass substrates by using a simple and inexpensive multi-step sol-gel spin coating process. This research investigated the effects of annealing temperature in the range from 350-600°C on the microstructure, surface morphology and optical properties of thin films by using XRD, SEM and transmittance spectra. The XRD results showed that the c-axis orientation of thin films was improved with the increase of annealing temperature. The grain size increases from 16.6-19.7 nm with the increase in temperature. The transmittance spectra indicated that the transmittance and direct optical band gap of the films showed a decreased trend with annealing temperature. It is found that the tensile stress exist in the films, which decreases with the increase in annealing temperature up to 500°C, on further increasing the annealing temperature up to 600°C, the stress in the film changes from tensile to compressive nature. Abstract

A series of Zn1-xMgxO(x = 0 ~ 0.16) films have been prepared on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The structure, surface morphology, composition, optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and Hall measurement, respectively. It reveals that the obtained films are uniform hexagonal wurtzite polycrystalline with grain size about 100 nm.The optical transmittance are over 80% and the band gap (Eg) has linear relationship with Mg content: Eg = 1.67x + 3.274 (eV) (0 < x < 0.16). The resistivity of the films increases with the increase of Mg content. The Raman spectra of the films show that the position of E2 peaks (473 cm-1) has not changed, but the A1(LO) mode (577 cm-1) frequency shifts to lower wavenumbers with the increase of Mg content, indicating that Mg-doping does not cause intensive lattice deformation, but results in the decrease of the carrier concentration, which is corresponding to the degradation of the conductivity of ZnMgO films with the increase of Mg content. Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the radiation exposure levels in victims of a 60Co radiation accident using chromosome aberration analysis and the micronucleus assay. Peripheral blood samples were collected from three victims exposed to 60Co 10 days after the accident and were used for the chromosome aberration and micronucleus assays. After in vitro culture of the lymphocytes, the frequencies of dicentric chromosomes and rings (dic+r) and the numbers of cytokinesis blocking micronuclei (CBMN) in the first mitotic division were determined and used to estimate radiation dosimetry. The Poisson distribution of the frequency of dic+r in lymphocytes was used to assess the uniformity of the exposure to 60Co radiation. Based on the frequency of dic+r in lymphocytes, estimates of radiation exposure of the three victims were 5.61 Gy (A), 2.48 Gy (B) and 2.68 Gy (C). The values were estimated based on the frequencies of CBMN, which were 5.45 Gy (A), 2.78 Gy (B) and 2.84 Gy (C). The estimated radiation dosimetry demonstrated a critical role in estimating the radiation dose and facilitating an accurate clinical diagnosis. Furthermore, the frequencies of dir+r in victims A and B deviated significantly froma normal Poisson distribution. Chromosome aberration analysis offers a reliable means for estimating biological exposure to radiation. In the present study, the micronucleus assay demonstrated a high correlation with the chromosome aberration analysis in determining the radiation dosimetry 10 days after radiation exposure.
