A total of 374 ICU nurses (effective response rate: 71.37%) provided sufficient responses. Sociodemographic factors, job demographic factors, fatigue, burnout, job satisfaction, and turnover intention were assessed using questionnaires. General linear modeling (GLM), hierarchical linear regression (HLR) analysis, and generalized additive modeling (GAM) were performed to examine all the considered research hypotheses.Results: Fatigue was found to be negatively and significantly associated with job satisfaction. Moreover, burnout played a partial mediating role and turnover intention played a moderating role in the relationship between fatigue and job satisfaction.Conclusion: Over time, a state of physical and mental exhaustion and work weariness among Chinese ICU nurses potentially results in job burnout and consequently promotes the level of job dissatisfaction. The results also found that turnover intention played a moderating role in the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction. Medicinal plants, with their antioxidant properties, have been used to cure several human diseases. The aim of the current study was to explore the protective and therapeutic effect of baicalein on AD-induced rats. Materials and methods: Swiss Wistar rats were used in the study. The rats were divided into five groups. Group I: normal control group treated with water; Group II: disease control treated with AlCl3 to induce the mimicking AD for 4 successive weeks (SW); Group III: normal control group treated with baicalein (5 mg/kg) for 2 SW followed by combination of baicalein and AlCl3­ for 4 SW; Group IV: normal control group treated with baicalein (10 mg/kg) for 2 SW followed by combination of baicalein and AlCl3 for 4 SW; Group V: normal control group treated with rivastigmine (0.3 mg/kg) for 2 SW followed by combination of rivastigmine and AlCl3 for 4 SW. Moreover, the therapeutic groups are as follows: Group VI: AD disease control treated with AlCl3 for 4 SW and serving as the therapeutic positive group; Group VII: AD disease control + baicalein (5 mg/kg) for 12 SW; Group VIII: AD disease control + baicalein (10 mg/kg) for 12 SW; Group IX: AD disease control + rivastigmine (0.3 mg/kg) for 12 SW. Behavioral test, T-maze, and rotarod test were also performed before and after the treatment. At the end of the experimental study, all the rats were sacrificed and their brains were removed and divided into two portions. The first portion was homogenated for estimating the level of acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and acetylcholine (Ach). Another portion was used for histopathological evaluation. Results: The current investigation showed that baicalein significantly reduced the duration of revolving on the rotarod, cage activity, and T-maze activity in a dose-dependent manner compared with the AD control group rats. It also altered the AchE and Ach levels in the brain homogenates. The histopathology study also provides strength to the protective effect of baicalein. Abstract The initial growth stage of the single-crystalline Sb and Co nanowires with preferential orientation was studied, which were synthesized in porous anodic alumina membranes by the pulsed electrodeposition technique. It was revealed that the initial growth of the nanowires is a three-dimensional nucleation process, and then gradually transforms to two-dimensional growth via progressive nucleation mechanism, which resulting in a structure transition from polycrystalline to single crystalline. The competition among the nuclei inside the nanoscaled-confined channel and the growth kinetics is responsible for the structure transition of the initial grown nanowires.

Abstract The lattice parameter of Bi/BiSb superlattice nanowire (SLNW) has been measured using in situ high-temperature X-ray diffraction method. The single crystalline Bi/BiSb SLNW arrays with different bilayer thicknesses have been fabricated within the porous anodic alumina membranes (AAMs) by a charge-controlled pulse electrodeposition. Different temperature dependences of the lattice parameter and thermal expansion coefficient were found for the SLNWs. It was found that the thermal expansion coefficient of the SLNWs with a large bilayer thickness has weak temperature dependence, and the interface stress and defect are the main factors responsible for the thermal contraction of the SLNWs.

Lighting Research & Technology (LRT) is an influential journal in the field of light and lighting dating back to 1969. To celebrate its 50th birthday, the current study explored its bibliometric characteristics and mapped the bibliographic information graphically through VOSviewer software. This analysis found that the number of papers has steadily increased during recent years. The most productive and cited country was the United Kingdom. The most productive and cited institution was Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The most prolific author was Steve Fotios and the most cited author was Mark Rea. The journal most cited together with LRT was Leukos. LRT has become more and more international and interdisciplinary over the last five decades. Suggestions for the development of LRT are provided. Develpoments over the last 50 years have turned LRT into one of leading journals in the light and lighting field, one which has a bright future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To determine whether and how tumour size of resectable oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) measured with multidetector CT could predict regional lymph node metastasis (LNM) and N stage.Methods: Two hundred five patients with ESCC underwent radical oesophagectomy with three-field lymphadenectomy less than 3 weeks after contrast-enhanced CT. Tumour size of the ESCC (tumour length, maximal thickness and gross tumour volume, GTV) was measured on CT. Statistical analyses were performed to identify whether tumour size could predict regional LNM and N stage, and to determine how to use the size of ESCC to predict N stage.Results: Univariate analysis showed that tumour size could predict regional LNM (all P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that GTV could independently predict regional LNM (P = 0.021, odds ratio = 1.813). Mann-Whitney tests showed that tumour size could distinguish grouped N stages (all P < 0.05). GTV might be a differentiating indicator between N0 and N1-3 stages (cutoff, 14.4 cm(3)), between N0-1 and N2-3 (cutoff, 15.9 cm(3)), and between N0-2 and N3 (cutoff, 26.1 cm(3)), with sensitivity of 76%, 63% or 75%, and specificity of 75%, 61% and 81%, respectively.Conclusions: The GTV of ESCC measured with CT could be an indicator for predicting regional LNM and grouped N stages.Key Points: • Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) allows accurate assessment of oesophageal tumour size • For resectable squamous cell tumours, size helped predict regional lymph node involvement • Gross tumour volume may predict the N stage of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI) is a common feature of ischemic stroke leading to a poor prognosis. Effective treatments targeting I/R injury are still insufficient. The study aimed to investigate the mechanisms, by which glycyrrhizic acid (18β-GA) in ameliorates CIRI. Our results showed that 18β-GA significantly decreased the infarct volume, neurological deficit scores, and pathological changes in the brain tissue of rats after middle cerebral artery occlusion. Western blotting showed that 18β-GA inhibited the expression levels of phosphorylated JAK2 and phosphorylated STAT3. Meanwhile, 18β-GA increased LC3-II protein levels in a reperfusion duration-dependent manner, which was accompanied by an increase in the Bcl-2/Bax ratio. Inhibition of 18β-GA-induced autophagy by 3-methyladenine (3-MA) enhanced apoptotic cell death. In addition, 18β-GA inhibited the JAK2/STAT3 pathway, which was largely activated in response to oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation. However, the JAK2/STAT3 activator colivelin TFA abolished the inhibitory effect of 18β-GA, suppressed autophagy, and significantly decreased the Bcl-2/Bax ratio. Taken together, these findings suggested that 18β-GA pretreatment ameliorated CIRI partly by triggering a protective autophagy via the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. Abalone (Haliotis spp.) is a shellfish known for its exceptional nutritional value and significant economic worth. This study investigated the dynamic characteristics of non-volatile compounds over a year, including metabolites, lipids, nucleotides, and free amino acids (FAAs), which determined the nutritional quality and flavor of abalone. 174 metabolites and 371 lipids were identified and characterized, while 20 FAAs and 11 nucleotides were quantitatively assessed. These non-volatile compounds of abalone were fluctuated with months variation, which was consistent with the fluctuations of environmental factors, especially seawater temperature. Compared with seasonal variation, gender had less influence on these non-volatiles. June and July proved to be the optimal harvesting periods for abalone, with the levels of overall metabolites, lipids, FAAs, and nucleotides in abalone exhibiting a higher value in June and July over a year. Carboxysomes are large self-assembled microcompartments that serve as the central machinery of a CO 2 -concentrating mechanism (CCM). Biogenesis of carboxysome requires the fine organization of thousands of individual proteins; however, the packaging pattern of internal RuBisCOs remains largely unknown. Here we purified the intact β-carboxysomes from Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 and identified the protein components by mass spectrometry. Cryo-electron tomography combined with subtomogram averaging revealed the general organization pattern of internal RuBisCOs, in which the adjacent RuBisCOs are mainly arranged in three distinct manners: head-to-head, head-to-side, and side-by-side. The RuBisCOs in the outermost layer are regularly aligned along the shell, the majority of which directly interact with the shell. Moreover, statistical analysis enabled us to propose an ideal packaging model of RuBisCOs in the β-carboxysome. Aim: This study utilized latent profile analysis to investigate care needs subgroups among older adults with urinary incontinence., Methods: The "Elderly Urinary Incontinence Care Needs Inventory" surveyed 510 participants in two Guangzhou City hospitals from July 2022 to June 2023. Latent profile analysis created a classification model, and variance and correlation analysis assessed influencing factors., Results: A total of 510 older adults with urinary incontinence participated. The standardized total care needs score was 78.77 ± 5.03, with variations across dimensions: social participation needs scored (71.16 ± 10.32), daily life care needs (78.80 ± 5.51), medical care needs (77.33 ± 12.17), psychological comfort needs (76.97 ± 6.51) and health education needs scored highest (82.67 ± 6.77). Three distinct profiles emerged: "medium," "high SPN-PCN" and "high DLCN-MCN-HEN". The majority belonged to the "high SPN-PCN" profile. Significant correlations were found with age, education, leaks and frequency of micturitions., Conclusion: Research findings showed the existence of three distinct categories, with a notable majority of participants belonging to the "high SPN-PCN" group. The significance of having these classes identified lies in the move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more nuanced understanding of care needs. Customized nursing interventions can be devised based on specific factors, such as age, education level, urinary incontinence-related symptoms and potential category. For instance, for the "high SPN-PCN" group, our nursing strategy can encompass heightened psychological support and expanded opportunities for social engagement.Furthermore, in the training and education of healthcare professionals, recognizing and meeting the needs of each potential category of older adults might require more attention. Background: Despite previous studies suggesting that developmental care can provide benign stimulation to promote neural development of newborns, more evidence is needed regarding the other clinical benefits of developmental care., Objective: To evaluate the effect of implementing developmental care on the length of hospital stay, the improvement of care practice in neonatal intensive care units, as well as the short-term outcome of very low birth weight infants., Design: Cluster-randomized controlled trial., Setting(s) and Participants: From March 1, 2021 to March 1, 2022, 1400 very low birth weight infants were recruited from 14 tertiary neonatal intensive care units in China., Methods: We assigned 14 neonatal intensive care units to either developmental care or standard care. The length of hospital stay of the infants was the primary outcome analyzed at the individual level. Secondary outcomes were family centered care practice including parental involvement, the skin to skin care, exclusive breast milk, oral immune therapy and breastfeeding. The environmental management (noise and light) and the short-term outcomes were also evaluated., Results: The length of hospital stay for the developmental care group was 65 % as long as that for the control group (HR: 0.65, 95 % CI, 0.451-0936, p = 0.021). After controlling the covariables, the adjusted HR = 0.755 (95 % CI, 0.515 to 1.107, p = 0.150). When compared to the control group, the developmental care group had greater access to SSC, with 22 infants (3.8 %) in the developmental care group compared to 13 infants (1.7 %) in the standard care group (p = 0.013). A greater proportion of infants in the developmental care group were fed at the breast, than those in the standard care group (136 [23.6 %] vs 9 [1.1 %]; p = 0.029). Compared to the control group, exclusively breast milk was significantly more favorable in the developmental care group (435 [75.6 %] vs 114 [15.0 %]; p = 0.001). The difference remained significant even after adjusting for covariates. However, the rate of oral immune therapy and parental involvement was similar in the two groups. The average noise and light levels in the developmental care group were significantly lower than those in the standard care group. After adjusting for confounders, the difference remained significant. There were no significant differences among groups in the mortality and major morbidity., Conclusions: Developmental care might have developed an accumulated effect over time on the length of hospital stay among very low birth weight infants. Background and Aims: Acute liver failure is a multisystem disorder with a high mortality and frequent need for emergency liver transplantation. Following massive innate immune system activation, soluble markers of macrophage activation are released during liver damage and their association with disease severity and prognosis requires exploration., Methods: Patients ALF from the United States Acute Liver Failure Study Group (USALFSG, n = 224) and King's College Hospital (n = 40) together with healthy controls (HC, n = 50) were recruited. Serum from early (Days 1-3) and late (>Day 3) time points were analysed for MAMs by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay correlated to markers of illness severity and 21-day spontaneous survival. Surface expression phenotyping was performed via Flow Cytometry on CD14 + monocytes., Results: All MAMs serum concentrations were significantly higher in ALF compared to controls (p < .0001). sCD206 concentration was higher in early and late stages of the disease in patients with bacteraemia (p = .002) and infection in general (p = .006). In MELD-adjusted multivariate modelling, sCD206 and sCD163 were independently associated with mortality. CD14 + monocyte expression of CD206 (p < .001) was higher in patients with ALF compared with controls and correlated with SOFA score (p = .018). sCD206 was independently validated as a predictor of infection in an external cohort., Conclusions: sCD206 is increased in serum of ALF patients with infections and poor outcome and is upregulated on CD14 + monocytes. Later measurements of sCD163 and sCD206 during the evolution of ALF have potential as mechanistic predictors of mortality. sCD206 should be explored as a biomarker of sepsis and mortality in ALF., (© 2024 The Authors. Abalone, a highly sought-after aquatic product, possesses significant nutritional value. In this study, the relationship between aroma characteristics and lipid profile of abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) during seasonal fluctuation and thermal processing were profiled via volatolomics and lipidomics. 46 aroma compounds and 371 lipids were identified by HS-SPME-GC-MS and UPLC-Q-Extractive Orbitrap-MS, respectively. Multivariate statistical analysis indicated that carbonyls (aldehydes and ketones) and alcohols were the characteristic aroma compounds of abalone. The fluctuations in the aroma compound and lipid composition of abalone were consistent with the seasonal variation, especially seawater temperature. In addition, based on the correlation analysis, it was found that carbonyls (aldehydes and ketones) and alcohols had a positive correlation with phospholipids (lysophosphatidylethanolamines and lysophosphatidylcholines), while a negative correlation was observed with fatty acyls. HuangYuXiang (HYX) is a colorful and flavorful traditional cuisine in China, which development of organoleptic attributes is a complex process. Flavor sensory attributes was explored through volatilomics, sensomics, macrogenomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics in seven HYXs. Group B demonstrated the highest sensory scores. A total of 41 volatiles were detected, of which 7 were identified as key volatiles. Caulobacteraceae sp., Psychrobacter faecalis, Ralstonia pickettii, Carnobacterium divergens, and Psychrobacter cibarius were representative bacteria in HYXs. A total of 679 lipids (251 differential lipids) and 329 (113 differential metabolites) metabolites were identified. The differential compounds were the main contributors to flavor differences. L-homocitrulline, arg-ser, 4-aminobenzoic acid, arg-gly, sucrose, pyridoxine, D-cyclohexylglycine, PC 21:4/22:6, PC O-15:0/22:5, PC O-20:2/20:5, and FA 18:2 were heavily accumulated under the microbial action, which in turn promoted the formation of aroma and taste substances. P/TGMS (Photo/thermo-sensitive genic male sterile) lines are crucial resources for two-line hybrid rice breeding. Previous studies revealed that slow development is a general mechanism for sterility-fertility conversion of P/TGMS in Arabidopsis. However, the difference in P/TGMS genes between rice and Arabidopsis suggests the presence of a distinct P/TGMS mechanism in rice. In this study, we isolated a novel P/TGMS line, ostms19, which shows sterility under high-temperature conditions and fertility under low-temperature conditions. OsTMS19 encodes a novel pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) protein essential for pollen formation, in which a point mutation GTA(Val) to GCA(Ala) leads to ostms19 P/TGMS phenotype. It is highly expressed in the tapetum and localized to mitochondria. Under high temperature or long-day photoperiod conditions, excessive ROS accumulation in ostms19 anthers during pollen mitosis disrupts gene expression and intine formation, causing male sterility. Conversely, under low temperature or short-day photoperiod conditions, ROS can be effectively scavenged in anthers, resulting in fertility restoration. This indicates that ROS homeostasis is critical for fertility conversion. This relationship between ROS homeostasis and fertility conversion has also been observed in other tested rice P/TGMS lines. Objective: To investigate the prevalence and associated factors of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among adolescent and young adults in China from December 14, 2022 to February 28, 2023, when COVID-19 restrictions were lifted., Methods: Students in middle and high schools and colleges and universities in the province of Sichuan, China were asked to complete on-line cross-sectional surveys. Information was collected about sociodemographics, experiences related to the COVID-19 pandemic, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. Participants also filled out the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 and the Social Support Rate Scale surveys. Factors associated with suicidal ideation or suicide attempts were explored using logistic regression., Results: Of the 82,873 respondents (aged 12 to 24 years), 21,292 (25.7%) reported having thought of suicide at least once in their lifetime, 10,382 (12.5%) reported having thought about suicide within the previous 12 months, and 1,123 (1.4%) reported having attempted it within the previous 12 months. Risk of lifetime suicidal ideation was higher among middle school students than among older students. Risk of suicidal ideation and risk of suicide attempts correlated directly with severity of symptoms of depression and anxiety, and inversely with level of social support. Greater risk of suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts was associated with: being female, living in an urban environment, attending a boarding school, currently being in love, having parents who divorced or remarried, having parents who exhibit non-authoritative parenting behavior, having higher family income, having been COVID-19 infected, having been quarantined for a long time, and being dissatisfied with one's education., Conclusions: Suicidal ideation and suicide attempts remain prevalent among young people in China. The concept of ferroptosis inhibition has gained growing recognition as a promising therapeutic strategy for addressing a wide range of diseases. Here, we present the discovery of four series of ortho -aminophenol derivatives as potential ferroptosis inhibitors beginning with the endogenous substance 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3-HA) by employing quantum chemistry techniques, in vitro and in vivo assays. Our findings reveal that these ortho -aminophenol derivatives exhibit unique intra-H bond interactions, compelling ortho -amines to achieve enhanced alignment with the aromatic π-system, thereby expanding their activity. Notably, compounds from all four series display remarkable activity against RSL3-induced ferroptosis, showcasing an activity 100 times more than that of 3-HA. Furthermore, these compounds also demonstrate robust in vivo efficacy in protecting mice from kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury and acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity. In summary, we provide four distinct series of active scaffolds that significantly expand the chemical space of ferroptosis inhibitors, serving as valuable insights for future structural modifications.

Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) is a heterogeneous disease similar to intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas. These lesions have been recognized as one of the three major precancerous lesions in the biliary tract since 2010. In 2018, Japanese and Korean pathologists reached a consensus, classifying IPNBs into type l and type 2 IPNBs. IPNBs are more prevalent in male patients in East Asia and are closely related to diseases such as cholelithiasis and schistosomiasis. From a molecular genetic perspective, IPNBs exhibit early genetic variations, and different molecular pathways may be involved in the tumorigenesis of type 1 and type 2 IPNBs. The histological subtypes of IPNBs include gastric, intestinal, pancreaticobiliary, or oncocytic subtypes, but type 1 IPNBs typically exhibit more regular and well-organized histological features than type 2 IPNBs and are more commonly found in the intrahepatic bile ducts with abundant mucin. Due to the rarity of these lesions and the absence of specific clinical and laboratory features, imaging is crucial for the preoperative diagnosis of IPNB, with local bile duct dilation and growth along the bile ducts being the main imaging features. Surgical resection remains the optimal treatment for IPNBs, but negative bile duct margins and the removal of lymph nodes in the hepatic hilum significantly improve the postoperative survival rates for patients with IPNBs., (© 2024. Purpose: To predict the efficacy of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation for uterine leiomyomas based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) indicators and imaging features., Methods: Sixty-two patients with 85 uterine leiomyomas were consecutively enrolled in this retrospective study and underwent DTI scanning before HIFU treatment. Based on whether the non-perfused volume ratio (NPVR) was greater than 70%, all patients were assigned to sufficient ablation (NPVR ≥ 70%) or insufficient ablation (NPVR < 70%) groups. The selected DTI indicators and imaging features were incorporated to construct a combined model. The predictive performance of DTI indicators and the combined model were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves., Results: There were 42 leiomyomas in the sufficient ablation group (NPVR ≥ 70%) and 43 leiomyomas in the insufficient ablation group (NPVR < 70%). The fractional anisotropy (FA) and relative anisotropy (RA) values were higher in the sufficient ablation group than in the insufficient ablation group (p < 0.05). Conversely, the volume ratio (VR) and mean diffusivity (MD) values were lower in the sufficient ablation group than those in the insufficient ablation group (p < 0.05). Notably, the combined model composed of the RA and enhancement degree values had high predictive efficiency, with an AUC of 0.915. The combined model demonstrated higher predictive performance than FA and MD alone (p = 0.032 and p < 0.001, respectively) but showed no significant improvement compared with RA and VR (p > 0.05)., Conclusion: DTI indicators, especially the combined model incorporating DTI indicators and imaging features, can be a promising imaging tool to assist clinicians in predicting HIFU efficacy for uterine leiomyomas., (© 2023. N 6 -Methyladenosine (m 6 A) is a important process regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) is a major immune inhibitive checkpoint that facilitates immune evasion and is expressed in tumor cells. In this research we discovered that Wilms' tumor 1-associated protein (WTAP) degradation caused by ubiquitin-mediated cleavage in cancer cells (colorectal cancer, CRC) under hypoxia was inhibited by Pumilio homolog 1 (PUM1) directly bound to WTAP. WTAP enhanced PD-L1 expression in a way that was m 6 A-dependent. m 6 A "reader," Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) identified methylated PD-L1 transcripts and subsequently fixed its mRNA. Additionally, we found that T-cell proliferation and its cancer cell-killing effects were prevented by overexpression of WTAP in vitro and in vivo. Overexpression prevented T cells from proliferating and killing CRC by maintaining the expression of PD-L1. Further evidence supporting the WTAP-PD-L1 regulatory axis was found in human CRC and organoid tissues. Tumors with high WTAP levels appeared more responsive to anti-PD1 immunotherapy, when analyzing samples from patients undergoing treatment. Overall, our findings demonstrated a novel PD-L1 regulatory mechanism by WTAP-induced mRNA epigenetic regulation and the possible application of targeting WTAP as immunotherapy for tumor hypoxia., (© 2024 The Authors. To investigate the mechanisms of flavor formation in dry-fermented tilapia sausages, the volatiles, bacterial community, and lipid composition during fermentation were analyzed using gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry, 16S high throughput sequencing, and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer. Pediococcus pentosaceus, Staphylococcus xylosus, and Staphylococcus carnosus became dominant bacteria during the fermentation. A total of 66 volatiles and 293 lipids (48 differential lipids) were identified. PC and PE content decreased. Aldehyde and 1-octen-3-ol content decreased. Most esters and ketones content increased during fermentation. Six metabolic pathways associated with differential lipids were identified by enrichment analysis. Glycerophospholipid metabolism was the main metabolic pathway. Correlation analysis revealed that PC and PE were precursors for volatiles, including PC 16:0/18:2 and PE 18:0/22:6. The dominant bacteria facilitate the hydrolysis of PC and PE, leading to the formation of esters and ketones. Background: Cirrhotic patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) in the intensive care unit (ICU) have a poor but variable prognoses. Accurate prognosis evaluation can guide the rational management of patients with ACLF. However, existing prognostic scores for ACLF in the ICU environment lack sufficient accuracy., Aim: To develop a new prognostic model for patients with ACLF in ICU., Methods: Data from 938 ACLF patients in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) database were used to develop a new prognostic model (MIMIC ACLF) for ACLF. Discrimination, calibration and clinical utility of MIMIC ACLF were assessed by area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA), respectively. MIMIC ACLF was then externally validated in a multiple-center cohort, the Electronic Intensive Care Collaborative Research Database and a single-center cohort from the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University in China., Results: The MIMIC ACLF score was determined using nine variables: ln (age) × 2.2 + ln (white blood cell count) × 0.22 - ln (mean arterial pressure) × 2.7 + respiratory failure × 0.6 + renal failure × 0.51 + cerebral failure × 0.31 + ln (total bilirubin) × 0.44 + ln (internationalized normal ratio) × 0.59 + ln (serum potassium) × 0.59. In MIMIC cohort, the AUROC (0.81/0.79) for MIMIC ACLF for 28/90-day ACLF mortality were significantly greater than those of Chronic Liver Failure Consortium ACLF (0.76/0.74), Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD; 0.73/0.71) and MELD-Na (0.72/0.70) (all P < 0.001). The consistency between actual and predicted 28/90-day survival rates of patients according to MIMIC ACLF score was excellent and superior to that of existing scores. The net benefit of MIMIC ACLF was greater than that achieved using existing scores within the 50% threshold probability. The superior predictive accuracy and clinical utility of MIMIC ACLF were validated in the external cohorts., Conclusion: We developed and validated a new prognostic model with satisfactory accuracy for cirrhotic patients with ACLF hospitalized in the ICU. Non-targeted analysis of high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS) can identify thousands of compounds, which also gives a huge challenge to their quantification. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of mass spectrometry ionization efficiency on various compounds in food at different solvent ratios and to develop a predictive model for mass spectrometry ionization efficiency to enable non-targeted quantitative prediction of unknown compounds. This study covered 70 compounds in 14 different mobile phase ratio environments in positive ion mode to analyze the rules of the matrix effect. With the organic phase ratio from low to high, most compounds changed by 1.0 log units in log IE. The addition of formic acid enhanced the signal but also promoted the matrix effect, which often occurred in compounds with strong ionization capacity. It was speculated that the matrix effect was mainly in the form of competitive charge and charged droplet' gasification sites during MS detection. Subsequently, we present a log IE prediction method built using the COSMO-RS software and the artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm to address this difficulty and overcome the shortcomings of previous models, which always ignore the matrix effect. This model was developed following the principles of QSAR modeling recommended by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Furthermore, we validated this approach by predicting the log IE of 70 compounds, including those not involved in the log IE model development. The results presented demonstrate that the method we put forward has an excellent prediction accuracy for log IE ( R 2 pred = 0.880), which means that it has the potential to predict the log IE of new compounds without authentic standards.

Objective: To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of oblique vaginal septum syndrome (OVSS). Methods: The clinical data of 80 patients with OVSS admitted to The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from July 2005 to July 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the classification system of OVSS proposed by Female Genital Anomalies Study Group, Chinese Obstetricians and Gynecologists Association in 2021, the patients were divided into four groups. The clinical manifestations, accompanied urinary system abnormalities, diagnosis and treatment methods and treatment outcomes were observed. Results: According to the above classification system, among the 80 patients with OVSS, 35 patients (44%, 35/80) were categorized as type Ⅰ, 33 patients (41%, 33/80) were categorized as type Ⅱ, 2 patients (3%, 2/80) were categorized as type Ⅲ and 10 patients (13%, 10/80) were categorized as type Ⅳ. The main onset symptom of patients was periodic abdominal pain (70%, 56/80), vaginal bleeding (20%, 16/80), dysuria or fecal impaction (15%, 12/80), vaginal mucopurulent discharge (10%, 8/80). The morbidity of combined urinary system abnormalities was 88% (70/80), and the most common urinary system abnormality was ipsilateral renal agenesis (81%, 65/80). Bilateral kidneys were normal in 13% (10/80) patients, and 6% (5/80) were combined with other urinary system abnormalities. A total of 74 patients underwent vaginal oblique septectomy or septum excision. Five of the 10 patients with type Ⅳ underwent hysterectomy on the cervical atresia side, 4 patients received hysteroscopy combined with cervicoplasty+oblique septotomy or septum excision, and one patient selected delayed menstruation. Two patients underwent laparoscopic resection of the dysplasia kidney and ectopic ureter which opening to the vagina. Eleven patients with endometriosis cyst, hydrosalpinx or empyema underwent laparoscopic surgery. Conclusions: The main symptom of type Ⅰ and Ⅳ patients is abdominal pain, while the main symptom of type Ⅱ and Ⅲ patients is bleeding. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has advantages in the evaluation of complex OVSS, and MRI is recommended before operation to exclude other axial reproductive tract dysplasia and complex urinary system dysplasia. If there is leakage of urine, vaginal discharge or complex deformity, it is necessary to multidisciplinary discussion and formulate a reasonable surgical plan. The first treatment is related to the prognosis of patients especially children, and should be highly valued.

Purpose: Perioperative hypothermia is a common anesthesia-related complication that can result in negative outcomes. Intraoperative active heating can positively impact these outcomes. Therefore this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of three common heating devices for controlling hypothermia, improving thermal comfort, and reducing anesthesia recovery time., Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis., Methods: Seven electronic literature databases were searched from the inception date of the databases to March 18, 2022. RevMan 5.4 and Stata 15.1 were used to perform meta-analyses on the obtained data, and the Cochrane Evaluation Manual was used for quality risk assessment of the included studies., Findings: A total of 18 studies involving 1,511 patients undergoing surgery using heating devices were included. In this meta-analysis, a ranking method known as the Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking Curve (SUCRA) was used. SUCRA provides a numerical measure of the effectiveness of treatments, with higher values indicating superior efficacy. Findings demonstrated that the concurrent use of three heating devices led to an elevation in core body temperatures (SUCRA = 69.2%) and enhanced delayed recovery (SUCRA = 88.6%) as compared to the application of a single device. Furthermore, for thermal comfort, the employment of heating blankets proved to be the most effective (SUCRA = 87.8%)., Conclusions: This study showed the core body temperatures and reductions in delayed recovery were greater when three heating devices were used together as compared to use one of them alone. Heating blankets was the most effective option for improving the thermal comfort of patients. Thus, clinicians should opt for appropriate heating equipment according to the type of surgery and the characteristics and needs of patients. Iridovirus poses a substantial threat to global aquaculture due to its high mortality rate; however, the molecular mechanisms underpinning its pathogenesis are not well elucidated. Here, a multi-omics approach was applied to groupers infected with Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV), focusing on the roles of key metabolites. Results showed that SGIV induced obvious histopathological damage and changes in metabolic enzymes within the liver. Furthermore, SGIV significantly reduced the contents of lipid droplets, triglycerides, cholesterol, and lipoproteins. Metabolomic analysis indicated that the altered metabolites were enriched in 19 pathways, with a notable down-regulation of lipid metabolites such as glycerophosphates and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), consistent with disturbed lipid homeostasis in the liver. Integration of transcriptomic and metabolomic data revealed that the top enriched pathways were related to cell growth and death and nucleotide, carbohydrate, amino acid, and lipid metabolism, supporting the conclusion that SGIV infection induced liver metabolic reprogramming. Further integrative transcriptomic and proteomic analysis indicated that SGIV infection activated crucial molecular events in a phagosome-immune depression-metabolism dysregulation-necrosis signaling cascade. Of note, integrative multi-omics analysis demonstrated the consumption of ALA and linoleic acid (LA) metabolites, and the accumulation of L-glutamic acid (GA), accompanied by alterations in immune, inflammation, and cell death-related genes. Further experimental data showed that ALA, but not GA, suppressed SGIV replication by activating antioxidant and anti-inflammatory responses in the host. Collectively, these findings provide a comprehensive resource for understanding host response dynamics during fish iridovirus infection and highlight the antiviral potential of ALA in the prevention and treatment of iridoviral diseases.

Purpose: To explore care requirements of older adults with urinary incontinence (UI) and contributing factors., Method: This cross-sectional study used the Older Adults Urinary Incontinence Care Needs Inventory to survey participants with UI in three large-scale tertiary hospitals located in Guangzhou City, China, from January 2023 to November 2023. Statistical analyses, including analysis of variance, t tests, correlation analyses, and linear regression models, were conducted to assess factors influencing participants' care needs., Results: A total of 530 older adults with UI participated in the survey and mean standardized score for overall care needs was 78.65 ( SD = 5.01), with mean scores for each dimension ranging from 70.88 ( SD = 10.55) for social participation needs to 82.45 ( SD = 7.11) for health education needs. Factors that were found to influence incontinence care needs in older adults included age, literacy level, number of leaks, and type of disease (F = 37.07, adjusted R 2 = 0.290, p < 0.001)., Conclusion: Comprehensive care for older adults with UI, encompassing physiological, psychological, and social aspects, is crucial. It is essential to tailor care to individual needs and characteristics, taking into account factors, such as age and education, to ensure effective care. Pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 (inv[9]) is a common chromosomal structural variant, but its impact on clinical outcomes remains debated. The screening criteria of sperm banks are rarely mentioned to individuals with inv(9). In this study, we evaluated the fertility of sperm donors with inv(9) who met eligibility criteria for sperm banks (inv[9]-eligible donors). From March 2004 to May 2022, chromosomal analysis of 16 124 sperm donors at CITIC-Xiangya Human Sperm Bank in Hunan Province (Changsha, China) found that 251 (1.6%) had chromosome variations, with inv(9) being the most prevalent at 1.1%. All 169 inv(9)-eligible donors were contacted to collect fertility outcome data, along with 206 eligible donors without inv(9) as controls. In addition, semen samples from inv(9)-eligible donors and eligible donors underwent assessments of sperm fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), mitochondrial membrane potential, DNA fragmentation index, acrosome integrity, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and sperm morphology. Results showed that inv(9) did not significantly increase reproductive risks overall. Despite detecting ROS level differences, the clinical impact may be insignificant. Yang-deficiency constitution (YADC) is linked to a higher vulnerability to various diseases, such as cold coagulation and blood stasis (CCBS) syndrome and infertility. Endometrial hyperplastic processes (EHPs) are a leading cause of infertility in women and are characterized by CCBS. However, it remains unclear whether YADC is related to the development of EHPs., Methods: We recruited 202 EHPs patients including 147 with YADC (YEH group) and 55 with non-YADC (NYEH group). Fecal samples were collected from 8 YEH patients and 3 NYEH patients and analyzed using 16S rRNA V3-V4 sequencing for gut microbiota analysis. We obtained constitution survey data and a differential gut microbiota dataset from the literature for further analysis. Bioinformatics analysis was conducted using gut microbiota-related genes from public databases., Results: YADC was significantly more prevalent in EHPs than non-YADC (P < 0.001), suggesting it as a potential risk factor for EHPs occurrence (OR population survey = 13.471; OR healthy women = 5.173). The YEH group had higher levels of inflammation, estrogen, and tamoxifen-related flora compared to NYEH and healthy YADC groups. There was an interaction between inflammation, estrogen, differential flora, and EHPs-related genes, particularly the TNF gene (related to inflammation) and the EGFR gene (related to estrogen), which may play a crucial role in EHPs development., Conclusion: YEH individuals exhibit significant changes in their gut microbiota compared to NYEH and healthy YADC. A new species of Papaveraceae, Corydalis sunhangii , in the section Trachycarpae , is described and illustrated from Nyingchi City, Xizang, China. The new species has some resemblance to Corydalis kingdonis , but differs by radical leaves prominent, usually several, blade tripinnate (vs. insignificant, few, blade bi- to triternate); cauline leaf usually one, much smaller than radical leaves, usually situated in lower half of stem (vs. usually two, larger than radical leaves, concentrated in upper third of stem); racemes densely 13-35-flowered (vs. rather lax, 4-11-flowered); claw of lower petal shallowly saccate (vs. very prominently and deeply saccate); capsule oblong, with raised lines of dense papillae (vs. broadly obovoid, smooth). Phylogenetic analysis, based on 68 protein-coding plastid genes of 49 samples, shows that C. sunhangii is not closely related to any hitherto described species, which is consistent with our morphological analysis., Competing Interests: The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest., (© 2024 The Authors. Thermosensitive genic female sterility (TGFS) is a promising property to be utilized for hybrid breeding. Here, we identified a rice TGFS line, tfs2, through an ethyl methyl sulfone (EMS) mutagenesis strategy. This line showed sterility under high temperature and became fertile under low temperature. Few seeds were produced when the tfs2 stigma was pollinated, indicating that tfs2 is female sterile. Gene cloning and genetic complementation showed that a point mutation from leucine to phenylalanine in HEI10 (HEI10 tfs2 ), a crossover formation protein, caused the TGFS trait of tfs2. Under high temperature, abnormal univalents were formed, and the chromosomes were unequally segregated during meiosis, similar to the reported meiotic defects in oshei10. Under low temperature, the number of univalents was largely reduced, and the chromosomes segregated equally, suggesting that crossover formation was restored in tfs2. Yeast two-hybrid assays showed that HEI10 interacted with two putative protein degradation-related proteins, RPT4 and SRFP1. Through transient expression in tobacco leaves, HEI10 were found to spontaneously aggregate into dot-like foci in the nucleus under high temperature, but HEI10 tfs2 failed to aggregate. In contrast, low temperature promoted HEI10 tfs2 aggregation. This result suggests that protein aggregation at the crossover position contributes to the fertility restoration of tfs2 under low temperature. In addition, RPT4 and SRFP1 also aggregated into dot-like foci, and these aggregations depend on the presence of HEI10.
