Existing tracking methods mainly focus on learning better target representation or developing more robust prediction models to improve tracking performance. While tracking performance has significantly improved, the target loss issue occurs frequently due to tracking failures, complete occlusion, or out-of-view situations. However, considerably less attention is paid to the self-recovery issue of tracking methods, which is crucial for practical applications. To this end, we propose a recoverable tracking framework, RTracker, that uses a tree-structured memory to dynamically associate a tracker and a detector to enable self-recovery ability. Specifically, we propose a Positive-Negative Tree-structured memory to chronologically store and maintain positive and negative target samples. Upon the PN tree memory, we develop corresponding walking rules for determining the state of the target and define a set of control flows to unite the tracker and the detector in different tracking scenarios. Our core idea is to use the support samples of positive and negative target categories to establish a relative distance-based criterion for a reliable assessment of target loss. Symmetrical NMR spectroscopy constitutes a vital branch of multidimensional NMR spectroscopy, providing a powerful tool for the structural elucidation of biological macromolecules. Non-Uniform Sampling (NUS) serves as an effective strategy for averting the prohibitive acquisition time of multidimensional NMR spectroscopy by only sampling a few points according to NUS sampling schedules and reconstructing missing points via algorithms. However, current sampling schedules are unable to maintain the accurate recovery of cross peaks that are weak but important. In this work, we propose a novel sampling schedule termed as SCPG (Symmetrical Copy Poisson Gap) and employ CS (Compressed Sensing) methods for reconstruction. We theoretically prove that the symmetrical constraint, apart from sparsity, is implicitly implemented when SCPG is combined with CS methods. The simulated and experimental data substantiate the advantage of SCPG over state-of-the-art 2D Woven PG in the NUS reconstruction of symmetrical NMR spectroscopy., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures

RGB-Thermal (RGB-T) pedestrian detection aims to locate the pedestrians in RGB-T image pairs to exploit the complementation between the two modalities for improving detection robustness in extreme conditions. Most existing algorithms assume that the RGB-T image pairs are well registered, while in the real world they are not aligned ideally due to parallax or different field-of-view of the cameras. The pedestrians in misaligned image pairs may locate at different positions in two images, which results in two challenges: 1) how to achieve inter-modality complementation using spatially misaligned RGB-T pedestrian patches, and 2) how to recognize the unpaired pedestrians at the boundary. To deal with these issues, we propose a new paradigm for unregistered RGB-T pedestrian detection, which predicts two separate pedestrian locations in the RGB and thermal images, respectively. Specifically, we propose a cross-modality proposal-guided feature mining (CPFM) mechanism to extract the two precise fusion features for representing the pedestrian in the two modalities, even if the RGB-T image pair is unaligned. It enables us to effectively exploit the complementation between the two modalities. With the CPFM mechanism, we build a two-stream dense detector; it predicts the two pedestrian locations in the two modalities based on the corresponding fusion feature mined by the CPFM mechanism. Besides, we design a data augmentation method, named Homography, to simulate the discrepancy in scales and views between images. We also investigate two non-maximum suppression (NMS) methods for post-processing. Favorable experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our method in dealing with unregistered pedestrians with different shifts.

Existing visual tracking methods typically take an image patch as the reference of the target to perform tracking. However, a single image patch cannot provide a complete and precise concept of the target object as images are limited in their ability to abstract and can be ambiguous, which makes it difficult to track targets with drastic variations. In this paper, we propose the CiteTracker to enhance target modeling and inference in visual tracking by connecting images and text. Specifically, we develop a text generation module to convert the target image patch into a descriptive text containing its class and attribute information, providing a comprehensive reference point for the target. In addition, a dynamic description module is designed to adapt to target variations for more effective target representation. We then associate the target description and the search image using an attention-based correlation module to generate the correlated features for target state reference. Extensive experiments on five diverse datasets are conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm and the favorable performance against the state-of-the-art methods demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed tracking method., Comment: accepted by ICCV 2023

The interplay between Kondo screening and magnetic interactions is central to comprehending the intricate phases in heavy-fermion compounds. However, the role of the itinerant magnetic order, which is driven by the conducting (c) electrons, has been largely uncharted in the context of heavy-fermion systems due to the scarcity of material candidates. Here we demonstrate the coexistence of the coherent Kondo screening and d-orbital ferromagnetism in material system La$_{1-x}$Ce$_x$Co$_2$As$_2$, through comprehensive thermodynamic and electrical transport measurements. Additionally, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we further observe the f-orbit-dominated bands near the Fermi level ($E_f$) and signatures of the f-c hybridization below the magnetic transition temperature, providing strong evidence of Kondo lattice state in the presence of ferromagnetic order. Remarkably, by changing the ratio of Ce/La, we observe a substantial enhancement of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the Kondo lattice regime. The value of the Hall conductivity quantitatively matches with the first-principle calculation that optimized with our ARPES results and can be attributed to the large Berry curvature (BC) density engendered by the topological nodal rings composed of the Ce-4f and Co-3d orbitals at $E_f$. One-way-broadcast based flooding time synchronization algorithms are commonly used in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, the packet delay and clock drift pose challenges to accuracy, as they entail serious by-hop error accumulation problems in the WSNs. To overcome it, a rapid flooding multi-broadcast time synchronization with real-time delay compensation (RDC-RMTS) is proposed in this paper. By using a rapid-flooding protocol, flooding latency of the referenced time information is significantly reduced in the RDC-RMTS. In addition, a new joint clock skew-offset maximum likelihood estimation is developed to obtain the accurate clock parameter estimations, and the real-time packet delay estimation. Moreover, an innovative implementation of the RDC-RMTS is designed with an adaptive clock offset estimation. The experimental results indicate that, the RDC-RMTS can easily reduce the variable delay and significantly slow the growth of by-hop error accumulation. Besides magnetic and charge order, regular arrangements of orbital occupation constitute a fundamental order parameter of condensed matter physics. Even though orbital order is difficult to identify directly in experiments, its presence was firmly established in a number of strongly correlated, three-dimensional Mott insulators. Here, reporting resonant X-ray scattering experiments on the layered Van der Waals compound $1T$-TiSe$_2$, we establish the emergence of orbital order in a weakly correlated, quasi-two-dimensional material. Our experimental scattering results are consistent with first-principles calculations that bring to the fore a generic mechanism of close interplay between charge redistribution, lattice displacements, and orbital order. It demonstrates the essential role that orbital degrees of freedom play in TiSe$_2$, and their importance throughout the family of correlated Van der Waals materials.

We study two classes of summary-based cardinality estimators that use statistics about input relations and small-size joins in the context of graph database management systems: (i) optimistic estimators that make uniformity and conditional independence assumptions; and (ii) the recent pessimistic estimators that use information theoretic linear programs. We begin by addressing the problem of how to make accurate estimates for optimistic estimators. We model these estimators as picking bottom-to-top paths in a cardinality estimation graph (CEG), which contains sub-queries as nodes and weighted edges between sub-queries that represent average degrees. We outline a space of heuristics to make an optimistic estimate in this framework and show that effective heuristics depend on the structure of the input queries. We observe that on acyclic queries and queries with small-size cycles, using the maximum-weight path is an effective technique to address the well known underestimation problem for optimistic estimators. We show that on a large suite of datasets and workloads, the accuracy of such estimates is up to three orders of magnitude more accurate in mean q-error than some prior heuristics that have been proposed in prior work. In contrast, we show that on queries with larger cycles these estimators tend to overestimate, which can partially be addressed by using minimum weight paths and more effectively by using an alternative CEG. We then show that CEGs can also model the recent pessimistic estimators. This surprising result allows us to connect two disparate lines of work on optimistic and pessimistic estimators, adopt an optimization from pessimistic estimators to optimistic ones, and provide insights into the pessimistic estimators, such as showing that there are alternative combinatorial solutions to the linear programs that define them.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an important bio-engineering tool to determine the metabolic concentrations, molecule structures and so on. The data acquisition time, however, is very long in multi-dimensional NMR. To accelerate data acquisition, non-uniformly sampling is an effective way but may encounter severe spectral distortions and unfaithful quantitative measures when the acceleration factor is high. By modelling the acquired signal as the superimposed exponentials, we proposed a virtual peak (VIP) approach to selfadapt the prior spectral information, such as the resonance frequency and peak lineshape, and then feed these information into the reconstruction. The proposed method is further implemented with cloud computing to facilitate online, open, and easy access. Results on simulated and experimental data demonstrate that, compared with the low-rank Hankel matrix method, the new approach reconstructs high-fidelity NMR spectra from highly undersampled data and achieves more accurate quantification. The maximum quantitative errors of distances between nuclear pairs and concentrations of metabolites in mixtures have been reduced by 61.1% and 57.7%, respectively.

The discrepancy between theory and experiment severely limits the development of quantum key distribution (QKD). Reference-frame-independent (RFI) protocol has been proposed to avoid alignment of the reference frame. However, multiple optical modes caused by Trojan horse attacks and equipment loopholes lead to the imperfect emitted signal unavoidably. In this paper, we analyzed the security of the RFI-QKD protocol with non-qubit sources based on generalizing loss-tolerant techniques. The simulation results show that our work can effectively defend against non-qubit sources including a misaligned reference frame, state preparation flaws, multiple optical modes, and Trojan horse attacks. Topology is central to understanding and engineering materials that display robust physical phenomena immune to imperfections. Different topological phases of matter are characterised by topological invariants. In energy-conserving (Hermitian) systems, these invariants are determined by the winding of eigenstates in momentum space. In non-Hermitian systems, a novel topological invariant is predicted to emerge from the winding of the complex eigenenergies. Here, we directly measure the non-Hermitian topological invariant arising from exceptional points in the momentum-resolved spectrum of exciton polaritons. These are hybrid light-matter quasiparticles formed by photons strongly coupled to electron-hole pairs (excitons) in a halide perovskite semiconductor at room temperature. We experimentally map out both the real (energy) and imaginary (linewidth) parts of the spectrum near the exceptional points and extract the novel topological invariant - fractional spectral winding. Our work represents an essential step towards realisation of non-Hermitian topological phases in a condensed matter system.

Exploration of the topological quantum materials with electron correlation is at the frontier of physics, as the strong interaction may give rise to new topological phases and transitions. Here we report that a family of kagome magnets RMn$_6$Sn$_6$ manifest the quantum transport properties analogical to those in the quantum-limit Chern magnet TbMn$_6$Sn$_6$. The topological transport in the family, including quantum oscillations with nontrivial Berry phase and large anomalous Hall effect arising from Berry curvature field, points to the existence of massive Dirac fermions. Our observation demonstrates a close relationship between rare-earth magnetism and topological electron structure, indicating the rare-earth elements can effectively engineer the Chern quantum phase in kagome magnets., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 1 table
