9. Measurements of $^{160}$Dy($p,\gamma$) at energies relevant for astrophysical $\gamma$ process

Abstract

Rare information on photodisintegration reactions of nuclei with mass numbers $A \approx 160$ at astrophysical conditions impedes our understanding of the origin of $p$-nuclei. Experimental determination of the key ($p,\gamma$) cross sections has been playing an important role to verify nuclear reaction models and to provide rates of relevant ($\gamma,p$) reactions in $\gamma$-process. In this paper we report the first cross section measurements of $^{160}$Dy($p,\gamma$)$^{161}$Ho and $^{161}$Dy($p,n$)$^{161}$Ho in the beam energy range of 3.4 - 7.0 MeV, partially covering the Gamow window. Such determinations are possible by using two targets with various isotopic fractions. The cross section data can put a strong constraint on the nuclear level densities and gamma strength functions for $A \approx$ 160 in the Hauser-Feshbach statistical model. Furthermore, we find the best parameters for TALYS that reproduce the A $\thicksim$ 160 data available, $^{160}$Dy($p,\gamma$)$^{161}$Ho and $^{162}$Er($p,\gamma$)$^{163}$Tm, and recommend the constrained $^{161}$Ho($\gamma,p$)$^{160}$Dy reaction rates over a wide temperature range for $\gamma$-process network calculations. Although the determined $^{161}$Ho($\gamma$, p) stellar reaction rates at the temperature of 1 to 2 GK can differ by up to one order of magnitude from the NON-SMOKER predictions, it has a minor effect on the yields of $^{160}$Dy and accordingly the $p$-nuclei, $^{156,158}$Dy. 14. FOXP4-AS1 promotes CD8+ T cell exhaustion and esophageal cancer immune escape through USP10-stabilized PD-L1.

Abstract

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the 9th most frequently diagnosed malignancy globally with unfavorable prognosis. Immune escape is one of the principal factors leading to poor survival, however, the mechanism underlying immune escape remains largely uninvestigated. The xenograft mouse model and EC cell-CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) co-culture system were established. Immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR or western blot were employed to detect the levels of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) FOXP4-AS1, PD-L1, USP10 and other molecules. The abundance of T cells, cytokine production and cell apoptosis were monitored by flow cytometry. The viability of CTLs was assessed by Trypan blue staining. The binding between FOXP4-AS1 and USP10 was validated by RNA pull-down assay, and the interaction between USP10 and PD-L1, as well as the ubiquitination of PD-L1, were detected by co-immunoprecipitation. The elevation of FOXP4-AS1 in EC was associated with decreased CTL abundance, and upregulated PD-L1 facilitated CTL apoptosis in EC. FOXP4-AS1 accelerated EC tumor growth by decreasing the abundance of tumor infiltrating CTLs in vivo. FOXP4-AS1 inhibited the viability of CTLs and facilitated the cytotoxicity and exhaustion of CTLs. In Kyse 450 cell-CTL co-culture system, FOXP4-AS1 suppressed the viability and abundance of CTLs, and inhibited EC cell apoptosis via PD-L1. Mechanistically, FOXP4-AS1 regulated the ubiquitination of PD-L1 through deubiquitinating enzyme USP10. FOXP4-AS1 promoted CTL exhaustion and EC immune escape through USP10-stabilized PD-L1. Highlights: PD-L1 facilitated CD8+ T cell apoptosis in EC. Upregulated FOXP4-AS1 promoted EC tumor growth by inhibiting the viability and facilitating the cytotoxicity and exhaustion of tumor infiltrating CD8+ T cells. 26. The impact and effect of using weblog peer feedback to promote EFL high school students' writings

Abstract

With the widespread use of networked computers and the advent of technology, there has been an increasing emphasis on the integration of technology into English as a foreign language(EFL)writing instruction. The study aims to investigate Taiwanese senior high school students' perceptions of different types of feedback received from the face-to-face peer discussion and in the blog-based communications. Furthermore, the purpose of the study is to seek to a) explore the impact and effect of peer feedback in face-to-face discussion and blog-based environment, b)investigate students' perceptions of different modes of peer feedback, c) examine the way students give comments and types of comments that were made in different peer-feedback modes, d) provide insightful suggestions for implications and future research. One of the most important findings to emerge from this study is that students have the tendency to provide more comments on the local level of writing in both face-to-face peer discussion and blog-based peer communications. However, the peer feedback types emerged from the face-to-face discussion were more evenly distributed across various areas in the writing. The study has also shown that the participants incorporate a higher number of comments made in both peer feedback modes. However, the participants are more interactively engaged in the face-to-face peer feedback activity. Factors influencing the process of peer feedback activity are identified: a) intrinsic factors, b) extrinsic factors, c) environmental factors. The limitations of the study and recommendations for future research are also addressed.

Abstract

BackgroundRegular physical activity is proven to help prevent and treat noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and breast and colon cancer. The exercise data generated by health and fitness devices (eg, treadmill, exercise bike) are very important for health management service providers to develop personalized training programs. However, at present, there is little research on a unified interoperability framework in the health and fitness domain, and there are not many solutions; besides, the privatized treadmill data transmission scheme is not conducive to data integration and analysis. ObjectiveThis article will expand the IEEE 11073-PHD standard protocol family, develop standards for health and fitness device (using treadmill as an example) based on the latest version of the 11073-20601 optimized exchange protocol, and design protocol standards compliance testing process and inspection software, which can automatically detect whether the instantiated object of the treadmill meets the standard. MethodsThe study includes the following steps: (1) Map the data transmitted by the treadmill to the 11073-PHD objects; (2) Construct a programming language structure corresponding to the 11073-PHD application protocol data unit (APDU) to complete the coding and decoding part of the test software; and (3) Transmit the instantiated simulated treadmill data to the gateway test software through transmission control protocol for standard compliance testing. ResultsAccording to the characteristics of the treadmill, a data exchange framework conforming to 11073-PHD is constructed, and a corresponding testing framework is developed; a treadmill agent simulation is implemented, and the interoperability test is performed. Through the designed testing process, the corresponding testing software was developed to complete the standard compliance testing of the treadmill. ConclusionsThe extended research of IEEE 11073-PHD in the field of health and fitness provides a potential new idea for the data transmission framework of sports equipment such as treadmills, which may also provide some help for the development of sports health equipment interoperability standards.

43. Effects of metallic microstructures on fatigue fracture of Q345 steel

Abstract

Effects of high-frequency cyclic loading on the banded ferrite–pearlite steel were analyzed through crack initiation and propagation. Interfaces of ferrite and pearlite colony with a small angle deviation from the loading axis were verified to be the most potential sites to fabricate the microcracks caused by the high strain gradient. The initial crack extension inside ferrite grain was driven by shear stress in model II along the direction with a 45° angle to the loading axis. Banded pearlite colony and the high-angle grain boundaries were considered as the dominant factors that promote the fatigue resistance of the material through arousing crack deflection in short crack propagation range and crack branching in long crack propagation range to reduce the crack propagation driving force in the crack tip. P–S–Ncurves were used to quantify the dispersion of fatigue lifetimes and evaluate the effect of elevated volume content of pearlite colony on the fatigue performance of the material.
