Abstract

Due to the rapid developments in materials science and fabrication techniques, wearable devices have recently received increased attention for biomedical applications, particularly in medical ultrasound (US) imaging, sensing, and therapy. US is ubiquitous in biomedical applications because of its noninvasive nature, nonionic radiating, high precision, and real-time capabilities. While conventional US transducers are rigid and bulky, flexible transducers can be conformed to curved body areas for continuous sensing without restricting tissue movement or transducer shifting. This article comprehensively reviews the application of flexible US transducers in the field of biomedical imaging, sensing, and therapy. First, we review the background of flexible US transducers. Following that, we discuss advanced materials and fabrication techniques for flexible US transducers and their enabling technology status. Finally, we highlight and summarize some promising preliminary data with recent applications of flexible US transducers in biomedical imaging, sensing, and therapy. We also provide technical barriers, challenges, and future perspectives for further research and development.

Abstract

By utilizing the radio-frequency metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor switch, the multi-stage stacked printed circuit board Blumlein lines, and the induction voltage adder, a voltage generator with MHz repetition rates and nanosecond duration was designed and fabricated. The shunting current of the multi-stage stacked Blumlein lines, which consists of the coupling current at the load ends and the leakage current at the switch ends, is clarified. The circuit simulation and experiment of the three-stage stacked Blumlein lines are carried out; the result shows that the experiment and simulation agree well. The five-stage IVA prototype is designed for generating voltage pulses of ∼10 kV in amplitude and 8-11 ns in duration with MHz burst repetition rates. The voltage generator with MHz repetition rates and nanosecond duration demonstrated an important application prospect to reduce the electron beam initial emittance of the high energy accelerator.

Abstract

Pulsed power research for military and civil applications has been conducted at the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) for more than 50 years. The pulsed power research activities include development of pulsed power components, such as different kinds of high-voltage switches, series of pulsed power sources and pulsed X-ray machines, high-current accelerators for $Z$ -pinch and flash X-ray radiography, as well as medical application and electromagnetic launch. Abstract

The interaction of cisplatin and low-energy electrons (LEEs) can excellently enhance the yield of DNA strand breaks, which is identified by experiments, as recently highlighted. Meanwhile, the mechanism of this action has been researched by density functional theory (DFT). The calculation found that the mechanism of the interaction between cisplatin and electrons is different from that of the hydrolysis of cisplatin. This discovery will certainly be expected to reduce the side effects of cisplatin importantly. However, the mechanism of the attachments and the dissociative electron transfer reactions of trans-[Pt(P)NH 3 Cl 2 ] (P = 3-picoline or pyridine) with electrons currently is not clear yet. Thus, by using M06 and B3LYP functionals, we can obtain conclusion that one-electron attacks to trans-[Pt(P)NH 3 Cl 2 ] and generates a Cl ions and T- shaped trans- [ Pt(P)NH 3 Cl ] neutral radical, and then the combination of trans- [ Pt(P)NH 3 Cl ] with the second electron can form a linear type trans- [ Pt(P)NH 3 ] radical. Our calculations found that trans- [ Pt(P)NH 3 Cl ] binds with purines and will be lost high affinity but it might capture hydrogen from ribose (H4′/H5′/C3′ O) or a hydrogen of methyl groups ( CH 3 H′)on thymine(T) to improve the yield of DNA strand breaks. In summary, the results may have significance that the H4′ site on ribose or CH 3 H′ site on T might be the most dominant target from the trans- [ Pt(P)NH 3 Cl ] . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
