Devices based on two-dimensional (2D) materials such as graphene and molybdenum disulfide have shown extraordinary potential in physics, nanotechnology, and electronics. The performances of these applications are heavily affected by defects in utilized materials. Although great efforts have been spent in studying the formation and property of various defects in 2D materials, the long-term evolution of vacancies is still unclear. Here, using a designed program based on the kinetic Monte Carlo method, we systematically investigate the vacancy evolution in monolayer graphene on a long-time and large spatial scale, focusing on the variation of the distribution of different vacancy types. In most cases, the vacancy distribution remains nearly unchanged during the whole evolution, and most of the evolution events are vacancy migrations with a few being coalescences, while it is extremely difficult for multiple vacancies to dissolve. The probabilities of different categories of vacancy evolutions are determined by their reaction rates, which, in turn, depend on corresponding energy barriers. We further study the influences of different factors such as the energy barrier for vacancy migration, coalescence, and dissociation on the evolution, and the coalescence energy barrier is found to be dominant. These findings indicate that vacancies (also subnanopores) in graphene are thermodynamically stable for a long period of time, conducive to subsequent characterizations or applications. Besides, this work provides hints to tune the ultimate vacancy distribution by changing related factors and suggests ways to study the evolution of other defects in various 2D materials.

Although lower limb lymphedema (LLL) is more or equally as frequent and harmful as upper limb lymphedema after cancer treatment, there are only a few studies on this topic. Cancer-related secondary LLL not only has physical implications, but also affects quality of life among patients who underwent gynecological cancer treatment. Despite numerous studies of various therapies, the optimal treatment for cancer-related LLL is still unknown.We aimed to investigate the efficacy of lumbar sympathetic ganglion block (LSGB) in patients with secondary LLL in the present study.This study is a retrospective study.A single academic hospital, outpatient setting.A total of 30 patients with secondary unilateral LLL and failed complex decongestive treatment, from January 2017 through May 2021, were reviewed for inclusion in this study. The patients underwent fluoroscopy-guided LSGB 2 times with the help of digital subtraction angiography at 3-day intervals. Leg circumference was measured, and the volume of the leg was calculated before surgery, on the first day after the first surgery, on the first day after the second surgery, and on the seventh day after the second surgery. The World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Questionnaire scores were monitored before and after LSGB.The leg circumference and volume decreased significantly from baseline after the treatment (P0.001). One week after 2 rounds of LSGB, the physical health score, psychological score, and social relationships score were higher than those before treatment (all P0.05). There was no difference in the environmental health score (P = 0.2731).This study was limited by its sample size and retrospective observational design.LSGB can be a safe and effective treatment option for patients with secondary LLL after gynecological cancer treatment.

Electronic devices based on two-dimensional materials are promising for application in space instrumentation because of their small size and low power consumption, and irradiation tolerance of these devices is required because of the existence of energetic particles in aerospace conditions. We investigate the performance degradation of graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) with 3 MeV protons by using an in situ irradiation facility. Our results indicate that GFET performance degraded severely at the ion fluence of 8 × 10

Two-dimensional (2D) Stiefel-Whitney (SW) insulator is a fragile topological state characterized by the second SW class in the presence of space-time inversion symmetry. So far, SWIs have been proposed in several electronic materials but seldom in phononic systems. Here we recognize that a large class of 2D buckled honeycomb crystals termed Xenes and their ligand-functionalized derivatives realize the nontrivial phononic SW topology. The phononic SWIs are identified by a nonzero second SW number $w_2=1$, associated with gaped edge states and robust topological corner modes. Despite the versatility of electronic topological properties in these materials, the nontrivial phononic SW topology is mainly attributed to the double band inversion between in-plane acoustic and out-of-plane optical bands with opposite parities due to the structural buckling of the honeycomb lattice. Our findings not only reveal an overlooked phononic topological property of 2D Xene-related materials, but also afford abundant readily synthesizable material candidates with simple phononic spectra for further experimental studies of phononic SW topology physics., Phys. High-order topological insulators (HOTIs), as generalized from topological crystalline insulators (TCIs), are characterized with lower-dimensional metallic boundary states protected by spatial symmetries of a crystal, whose theoretical framework based on band inversion at special $k$-points cannot be readily extended to quasicrystals because quasicrystals contain rotational symmetries that are not compatible with crystals, and momentum is no longer a good quantum number. Here, we develop a low-energy effective model underlying HOTI states in 2D quasicrystals for all possible rotational symmetries. By implementing a novel Fourier transform developed recently for quasicrystals and approximating the long-wavelength behavior by their large-scale average, we construct an effective $k \cdot p$ Hamiltonian to capture the band inversion at the center of a pseudo-Brillouin zone (PBZ). We show that an in-plane Zeeman field can induce mass-kinks at the intersection of adjacent edges of a 2D quasicrystal TI and generate corner modes (CMs) with fractional charge, protected by rotational symmetries. Our model predictions are confirmed by numerical tight-binding calculations. Furthermore, when the quasicrystal is proximitized by an \textit{s}-wave superconductor, Majorana CMs can also be created by tuning the field strength and chemical potential. The calculation of response functions in correlated electronic systems is one of the most important problems in the condensed matter physics. To obtain a physical response function, preserving both the Ward-Takahashi identity and the fluctuation-dissipation theorem are crucial. Here we propose a self-consistent many body method within the GW framework to calculate the response functions based on the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, which also satisfies the Ward-Takahashi identity. The validity of this methodology is demonstrated on the two-dimensional one-band Hubbard model, where both the Ward-Takahashi identity and fluctuation-dissipation theorem are verified numerically. Moreover, comparing to the accurate spin susceptibility of the determinantal Monte Carlo approach, the results obtained from our method are quite satisfactory and the computational cost are greatly reduced., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, supplemental material 15 pages

Electronic properties of crystals are inherently pertained to crystalline symmetry, so that amorphization that lowers and breaks symmetry is detrimental. One important crystalline property is electron band topology which is known to be weakened and destroyed by structural disorder. Here, we report a counterintuitive theoretical discovery that atomic structural disorder by amorphization can in fact induce electronic order of topology in an otherwise topologically trivial crystal. The resulting nontrivial topology is characterized by a nonzero spin Bott index, associated with robust topological edge states and quantized conductance. The underlying topological phase transition (TPT) from a trivial crystal to a topological amorphous is analyzed by mapping out a phase diagram in the degree of structural disorder using an effective medium theory. The atomic disorder is revealed to induce topological order by renormalizing the spectral gap toward nontriviality near the phase boundary. As a concrete example, we further show such TPT in amorphous stanane by first-principles calculations. Our findings point to possible observation of an electronic ordering transition accompanied by a structural disorder transition.

With the rapid development of topological states in crystals, the study of topological states has been extended to quasicrystals in recent years. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of topological states in quasicrystals, particularly focusing on one-dimensional (1D) and 2D systems. We first give a brief introduction to quasicrystalline structures. Then, we discuss topological phases in 1D quasicrystals where the topological nature is attributed to the synthetic dimensions associated with the quasiperiodic order of quasicrystals. We further present the generalization of various types of crystalline topological states to 2D quasicrystals, where real-space expressions of corresponding topological invariants are introduced due to the lack of translational symmetry in quasicrystals. Finally, since quasicrystals possess forbidden symmetries in crystals such as five-fold and eight-fold rotation, we provide an overview of unique quasicrystalline symmetry-protected topological states without crystalline counterpart., Comment: 26 pages, 17 figures, to be published in Front. Higher-order topological insulator (HOTI) states, such as two-dimension (2D) HOTI featured with topologically protected corner modes at the intersection of two gapped crystalline boundaries, have attracted much recent interest. However, the physical mechanism underlying the formation of HOTI states is not fully understood, which has hindered our fundamental understanding and discovery of HOTI materials. Here we propose a mechanistic approach to induce higher-order topological phases via structural buckling of 2D topological crystalline insulators (TCIs). While in-plane mirror symmetry is broken by structural buckling, which destroys the TCI state, the combination of mirror and rotation symmetry is preserved in the buckled system, which gives rise to the HOTI state. We demonstrate that this approach is generally applicable to various 2D lattices with different symmetries and buckling patterns, opening a horizon of possible materials to realize 2D HOTIs. The HOTIs so generated are also shown to be robust against buckling height fluctuation and in-plane displacement. A concrete example is given for the buckled $\beta $-Sb monolayer from first-principles calculations. Our finding not only enriches our fundamental understanding of higher-order topology, but also opens a new route to discovering HOTI materials.

Topological crystalline insulators (TCIs) are usually described with topological protection imposed by the crystalline symmetry. In general, however, the existence of TCI states does not necessitate the periodicity of crystals as long as an essential lattice symmetry can be identified. Here we demonstrate the compatibility of TCIs with aperiodic systems, as exemplified by an octagonal quasicrystal. The aperiodic TCIs we proposed are attributed to a band inversion mechanism, which inverts states with the same parity but opposite eigenvalues of a specific symmetry (such as mirror reflection). The nontrivial topology is characterized by a nonzero integer ``mirror Bott index.'' Moreover, we demonstrate that the topological edge states and quantized conductance of the aperiodic TCI, which are robust against disorder, can be effectively manipulated by external electric fields. Our findings not only provide a better understanding of electronic topology in relation to symmetry but also extend the experimental realization of topological states to much broader material categories beyond crystals.

The recent consumption revolution in China, which has in some cases created closer relationship between production and circulation, has introduced new perspectives to the debate concerning vertical integration and small farming. Using the case of a tea village in eastern China, this article depicts the rise of middle farmers and how they are then outcompeted by the dragon-head enterprise by utilising the over-pricing of tea, materialised in the construction and appropriation of tea factories. It thus argues that the dynamics of class differentiation continue despite the consumption revolution. Small producers based on decentralised means of production need to be protected.

Two-dimensional (2D) electrides are layered ionic crystals in which anionic electrons are confined in the interlayer space. Here, we report a discovery of nontrivial Z2 topology in the electronic structures of 2D electride Y2C. Based on first-principles calculations, we found a topological Z2 invariant of (1; 111) for the bulk band and topologically protected surface states in the surfaces of Y2C, signifying its nontrivial electronic topology. We suggest a spin-resolved angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurement to detect the unique helical spin texture of the spin-polarized topological surface state, which will provide characteristic evidence for the nontrivial electronic topology of Y2C. Furthermore, the coexistence of 2D surface electride states and topological surface state enables us to explain the outstanding discrepancy between the recent ARPES experiments and theoretical calculations. Herbertsmithite and Zn-doped barlowite are two compounds for experimental realization of twodimensional gapped kagome spin liquid. Theoretically, it has been proposed that charge doping a quantum spin liquid gives rise to exotic metallic states, such as high-temperature superconductivity. However, one recent experiment about herbertsmithite with successful Li-doping shows surprisingly the insulating state even under the heavy doped scenario, which can hardly be explained by many-body physics. Using first-principles calculation, we performed a comprehensive study about the Li intercalated doping effect of these two compounds. For the Li-doped herbertsmithite, we identified the optimized Li position at the Cl-(OH)$_3$-Cl pentahedron site instead of previously speculated Cl-(OH)$_3$ tetrahedral site. With the increase of Li doping concentration, the saturation magnetization decreases linearly due to the charge transfer from Li to Cu ions. Moreover, we found that Li forms chemical bonds with the nearby (OH)$^-$ and Cl$^-$ ions, which lowers the surrounding chemical potential and traps the electron, as evidenced by the localized charge distribution, explaining the insulating behavior measured experimentally. Though with different structure from herbertsmithite, Zn-doped Barlowite shows the same features upon Li doping. We conclude that Li doping this family of kagome spin liquid cannot realize exotic metallic states, other methods should be further explored, such as element substitution with different valence electrons., Comment: 6 figures

Topological semimetals have recently attracted extensive research interests as host materials to condensed matter physics counterparts of Dirac and Weyl fermions originally proposed in high energy physics. These fermions with linear dispersions near the Dirac or Weyl points obey Lorentz invariance, and the chiral anomaly leads to novel quantum phenomena such as negative magnetoresistance. The Lorentz invariance is, however, not necessarily respected in condensed matter physics, and thus Lorentz-violating type-II Dirac fermions with strongly tilted cones can be realized in topological semimetals. Here, we report the first experimental evidence of type-II Dirac fermions in bulk stoichiometric PtTe$_2$ single crystal. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements and first-principles calculations reveal a pair of strongly tilted Dirac cones along the $\Gamma$-A direction under the symmetry protection, confirming PtTe$_2$ as a type-II Dirac semimetal. The realization of type-II Dirac fermions opens a new door for exotic physical properties distinguished from type-I Dirac fermions in condensed matter materials., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

We theoretically study the quantum spin Hall states in an Ammann-Beenker-type octagonal quasicrystal and a periodic snub-square crystal, both sharing the same basic building blocks. Although the bulk states show significant differences in localization and transport properties, the topological phases manifest similarly in the two systems. This indicates the robustness of the topological properties regardless of symmetry and periodicity. We characterize the topological nature of the two systems with a nonzero topological invariant (spin Bott index ${B}_{s}$ and ${\mathbb{Z}}_{2}$ invariant), robust metallic edge states, and quantized conductance. In spite of some quantitative differences, the topological phase diagram of the two systems also exhibits similar behaviors, indicating that the topological phase transition is mainly determined by similar interactions in the two systems regardless of their structural difference. This is also reflected by the observation that the transition point between the normal insulator and the quantum spin Hall state in both systems follows a universal linear scaling relation for topological phase transitions.

Spin-orbit (SO) interaction is an indispensable element in the field of spintronics for effectively manipulating the spin of carriers. However, in crystalline solids, the momentum-dependent SO effective magnetic field generally results in spin randomization by a process known as the Dyakonov-Perel spin relaxation, leading to the loss of spin information. To overcome this obstacle, the persistent spin helix (PSH) state with a unidirectional SO field was proposed but difficult to achieve in real materials. Here, on the basis of first-principles calculations and tight-binding model analysis, we report for the first time a unidirectional SO field in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs, MX2, M = Mo, W; and X = S, Se) induced by two parallel chalcogen vacancy lines. By changing the relative positions of the two vacancy lines, the direction of the SO field can be tuned from x to y. Moreover, using k·p perturbation theory and group theory analysis, we demonstrate that the emerging unidirectional SO field is subject to both the structural symmetry and 1D nature of such defects engineered in 2D TMDs. In particular, through transport calculations, we confirm that the predicted SO states carry highly coherent spin current. Our findings shed new light on creating PSH states for high-performance spintronic devices.

Following the discovery of topological insulators (TIs), topological Dirac/Weyl semimetal has attracted much recent interest. A prevailing mechanism for the formation of Weyl points is by breaking time-reversal symmetry (TRS) or spatial inversion symmetry of a Dirac point. Here we demonstrate a generic formation mechanism for Weyl points by breaking TRS of a three-dimensional (3D) TI featured with highly degenerate 3D flat bands (FBs). It is in direct contrast to the conventional view that breaking TRS of a 2D/3D TI leads to a Chern insulator exhibiting quantum anomalous Hall effect. Based on a tight-binding model of pyrochlore lattice, we show that this unusual 3D-FB-enabled Weyl state may contain only a minimum of two Weyl points. Furthermore, using first-principles calculations, we identify this Weyl state in a real material ${\mathrm{Sn}}_{2}{\mathrm{Nb}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{7}$. The main features of the resulting Weyl points are analyzed with respect to symmetry, topological invariant and surface state. Our finding sheds new light on our fundamental understanding of topological physics and significantly extends the scope of Weyl semimetals to attract immediate experimental interest.

Based on first-principles calculations, we propose that a layered electride Mg2O can serve as an effective substrate, in place of metal substrate, to grow honeycomb borophene (h-borophene). We first confirm the thermodynamic stability of h-B@Mg2O heterostructure by energetics analysis and dynamic stability by absence of imaginary frequency in phonon spectra. Then, kinetically, we identify the atomistic pathways for a preferred 2D growth mode over 3D growth, and reveal a growth transition from 2D compact islands to h-borophene at ~13-atom cluster size, indicating the feasibility of epitaxial growth of h-borophene on Mg2O. The h-borophene is found to be stabilized by nearly one electron transfer from Mg2O to h-borophene based on the Bader charge analysis. Moreover, the intrinsic band structure of the free-standing h-borophene is only weakly perturbed by the Mg2O substrate, a significant advantage over metal substrate. We envision that layered electrides provide an attractive family of substrates for epitaxial growth of a range of 2D materials that can otherwise only be grown on undesirable metal substrates., 10 pages, 4 figures

A recent experiment shows that the ${K}^{\ensuremath{'}}K$ valley degeneracy can be lifted in monolayer ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ deposited on a layered ferromagnetic substrate of ${\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$. In this work, we take a van der Waals heterostructure ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}/{\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$ to model the monolayer ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ on the ${\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$ substrate and investigate the effects underpinning the ${K}^{\ensuremath{'}}K$ valley splitting based on first-principles calculations. We demonstrate that the interfacial atom superposition plays an important role and a W-Cr superposition is essential for a relatively large valley splitting. The results indicate inevitable sample-to-sample variations in the ${K}^{\ensuremath{'}}K$ valley splitting in the ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}/{\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$. Furthermore, we show that the ${K}^{\ensuremath{'}}K$ valley splitting can be tuned in the trilayer ${\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}/{\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}/{\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$ from nearly zero to more than two times of that in the bilayer ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}/{\mathrm{CrI}}_{3}$ by manipulating the layer alignment.

The kagome bands hosting exotic quantum phases generally and understandably pertain only to a kagome lattice. This has severely hampered the research of kagome physics due to the lack of real kagome-lattice materials. Interestingly, we discover that a coloring-triangle (CT) lattice, named after color-triangle tiling, also hosts kagome bands. We demonstrate first theoretically the equivalency between the kagome and CT lattices, and then computationally in photonic (waveguide lattice) and electronic (Au overlayer on electride $\mathrm{C}{\mathrm{a}}_{2}\mathrm{N}$ surface) systems by first-principles calculations. The theory can be generalized to even distorted kagome and CT lattices to exhibit ideal kagome bands. Our findings open an avenue to explore the alluding kagome physics.

Among two-dimensional lattices, both kagome and Lieb lattices have been extensively studied, showing unique physics related to their exotic flat and Dirac bands. Interestingly, we realize that the two lattices are in fact interconvertible by applying strains along the diagonal direction, as they share the same structural configuration in the unit cell, i.e., one corner-site and two edge-center states. We study phase transitions between the two lattices using the tight-binding approach and propose one experimental realization of the transitions using photonic devices. The evolution of the band structure demonstrates a continuous evolution of the flat band from the middle of the Lieb band to the top/bottom of the kagome band. Though the flat band is destroyed during the transition, the topological features are conserved due to the retained inversion symmetry, as confirmed by Berry curvature, Wannier charge center, and edge state calculations. Meanwhile, the triply degenerate Dirac point ($M$) in the Lieb lattice transforms into two doubly degenerate Dirac points, one of which moves along $M\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}$ and the other moves along $M\ensuremath{-}K/{K}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ directions that form the kagome band eventually. Interestingly, the Dirac cones in the transition states are strongly tilted, showing a coexistence of type-I and type-II Dirac points. We finally show that these transitions can be experimentally realized in photonic lattices using waveguide arrays.

Diamond-structure materials have been extensively studied for decades, which form the foundation for most semiconductors and their modern day electronic devices. Here, we discover a e$_g$-orbital ($d_{z^2}$,$d_{x^2-y^2}$ ) model within the diamond lattice (e$_g$-diamond model) that hosts novel topological states. Specifically, the e$_g$-diamond model yields a 3D nodal cage (3D-NC), which is characterized by a $d$-$d$ band inversion protected by two types of degenerate states (i.e., e$_g$-orbital and diamond-sublattice degeneracies). We demonstrate materials realization of this model in the well-known spinel compounds (AB$_2$X$_4$), where the tetrahedron-site cations (A) form the diamond sub-lattice. An ideal half metal with one metallic spin channel formed by well-isolated and half-filled e$_g$-diamond bands, accompanied by a large spin gap (4.36 eV) is discovered in one 4-2 spinel compound (VMg$_2$O$_4$), which becomes a magnetic Weyl semimetal when spin-orbit coupling effect is further considered. Our discovery greatly enriches the physics of diamond structure and spinel compounds, opening a door to their application in spintronics.

Time-periodic laser driving can create nonequilibrium states not accessible in equilibrium, opening new regimes in materials engineering and topological phase transitions. We report that black phosphorus (BP) exhibits spatially nonuniform topological Floquet–Dirac states under laser illumination, mimicking the “gravity” felt by fermionic quasiparticles in the same way as that for a Schwarzschild black hole (SBH). Quantum tunneling of electrons from a type-II Dirac cone (inside BH) to a type-I Dirac cone (outside BH) emits an SBH-like Planck radiation spectrum. The Hawking temperature TH obtained for a fermionic analog of BH in the bilayer BP is approximately 3 K, which is several orders of magnitude higher than that in previous works. Our work sheds light on increasing TH from the perspective of engineering 2D materials by time-periodic light illumination. The predicted SBH-like Hawking radiation, accessible in BP thin films, provides clues to probe analogous astrophysical phenomena in solids.

Numerous exotic properties have been discovered in Dirac Semimetals (DSMs) and Weyl Semimetals (WSMs). In a given DSM/WSM, the Dirac/Weyl nodes usually coexist with other bulk states, making their respective contribution elusive. In this work, we distinguish the role of bulk states from the tilted Dirac nodes on the transport properties in DSMs. Specifically, we applied pressure to a type-II DSM material, PtTe2, and studied its pressure modified electronic and lattice structure systematically by using in situ transport measurements and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A pressure-induced transition at about 20 GPa is revealed in the transport properties, while the layered lattice structure is robust against pressure as illustrated in XRD measurement results. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that this is originated from the Lifshitz transition in the bulk states. Our findings provide evidence to identify the bulk states’ influence on transport from the topologically-protected DSM states in the DSM material.

Despite the rapid progresses in the field of quantum spin Hall (QSH) effect, most of the QSH systems studied up to now are based on crystalline materials. Here we propose that the QSH effect can be realized in quasicrystal lattices (QLs). We show that the electronic topology of aperiodic and amorphous insulators can be characterized by a spin Bott index $B_s$. The nontrivial QSH state in a QL is identified by a nonzero spin Bott index $B_s=1$, associated with robust edge states and quantized conductance. We also map out a topological phase diagram in which the QSH state lies in between a normal insulator and a weak metal phase due to the unique wavefunctions of QLs. Our findings not only provide a better understanding of electronic properties of quasicrystals but also extend the search of QSH phase to aperiodic and amorphous materials that are experimentally feasible., 6 pages 3 figures

This is a joint publication with the Letter by H. Huang and F. Liu [Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 126401 (2018)]. In this work, we propose the spin Bott index to identify the quantum spin Hall (QSH) state in both crystalline and non-periodic systems. The applicability of the spin Bott index is confirmed by analyzing the periodic and disorder Kane-Mele models. As an example of non-periodic systems, we systematically investigate the QSH effect in a Penrose-type quasicrystal lattice (QL). We characterized the nontrivial electronic topology of the QL by directly calculating the spin Bott index. In addition, the topological edge states, the localization of wavefunctions and quantized transport signatures are also studied in detail., 14 pages, 14 figures

Recently, realizing new fermions, such as type-I and type-II Dirac/Weyl fermions in condensed matter systems, has attracted considerable attention. Here, we show that the transition state from type-I to type-II Dirac fermions can be viewed as a ``type-III'' Dirac fermion, which exhibits unique characteristics, including a Dirac-line Fermi surface with a nontrivial topological invariant and critical chiral anomaly effect, distinct from previously known Dirac semimetals. Most importantly, we discover ${\mathrm{Zn}}_{2}{\mathrm{In}}_{2}{\mathrm{S}}_{5}$ is a type-III Dirac semimetal, characterized by a pair of Dirac points in the bulk and Fermi arcs on the surface. We further propose a solid-state realization of the black-hole-horizon analog in inhomogeneous ${\mathrm{Zn}}_{2}{\mathrm{In}}_{2}{\mathrm{In}}_{5}$ to simulate black-hole evaporation with a high Hawking temperature. We envision that our findings will stimulate researchers to study the physics of type-III Dirac fermions, as well as astronomical problems in a condensed matter analog.
