Wampee (Clausena lansium) is an important evergreen fruit tree native to southern China that has a long history of use for medicinal purposes. Here, a chromosome-level genome of C. lansium was constructed with a genome size of 282.9 Mb and scaffold N50 of 30.75 Mb. The assembled genome contains 48.70% repetitive elements and 24,381 protein-coding genes. Comparative genomic analysis showed that C. lansium diverged from Aurantioideae 15.91–24.95 million years ago. Additionally, some expansive and specific gene families related to methyltransferase activity and S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methyltransferase activity were also identified. Further analysis indicated that N-methyltransferase (NMT) is mainly involved in alkaloid biosynthesis and O-methyltransferase (OMT) participates in the regulation of coumarin accumulation in wampee. This suggested that wampee's richness in alkaloids and coumarins might be due to the gene expansions of NMT and OMT. The tandem repeat event was one of the major reasons for the NMT expansion. Hence, the reference genome of C. lansium will facilitate the identification of some useful medicinal compounds from wampee resources and reveal their biosynthetic pathways.

Objective This study aimed to identify risk factors for mortality in septic patients undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and/or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).Methods Data from the MIMIC-IV database were retrospectively reviewed for 24,502 septic patients treated with ECMO or CRRT between 2008 and 2019. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 70 patients receiving ECMO, 513 receiving CRRT, and 22 receiving both were included in the final analysis. Univariate and multivariate stepwise Cox regression analyses were performed to identify independent risk factors for mortality. Model performance was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. We also provided model-agnostic explanations for each Cox regression model.Results For septic patients on ECMO, prothrombin time (per 1-s increase, HR 1.037, 95% CI 1.007–1.068, p = .015) was the key independent risk factor. For septic patients undergoing CRRT, SOFA score (per one-point increase, HR 1.100, 95% CI 1.055–1.147, p 0.75).Conclusion For septic patients requiring ECMO, prothrombin time was the key independent risk factor. For those needing CRRT, SOFA score was the most significant independent risk factor. Prior history of hypertension was the primary independent risk factor for septic patients needing both CRRT and ECMO.

Gerbera (Gerbera hybrida) is a popular cut flower on the market, so extending its vase life (VL) is an important goal in the horticultural industry. The aim of this study was to improve the freshness of gerbera cut flowers through the optimal solution (OS) and to analyze its preservation mechanism. We used chitosan (COS), calcium chloride (CaCl2), and citric acid (CA) as the main ingredients of the vase solution and determined the OS ratio of 104 mg/L of COS, 92 mg/L of CA, and 93 mg/L of CaCl2 using the Box–Behnken design-response surface method (BBD-RSM). Gerbera preservation results showed that the VL of the OS was 14.5 days, which was significantly longer than that of flowers maintained in the Basic Vase Solution (BVS) and the Commercial Formulation (CF) and was highly consistent with the theoretical VL of 14.57 d. Transcriptome analysis indicated that the OS might extend VL by regulating phytohormone signaling pathways, such as cytokinin and salicylic acid signaling. The qRT-PCR analysis of key candidate genes supported these findings, with significant upregulation observed in genes related to cytokinin synthesis (e.g., GhIPT1 and GhIPT9), salicylic acid signaling related to pathogen defense (e.g., GhTGA1, GhTGA4, GhNPR1, and GhRBOHA), and plant wax synthesis and stress response (e.g., GhKCS5, GhCUT1, and GhKCS6). Further, transcriptome GO-enrichment and physiological analysis showed that the OS might extend VL of Gerbera cut flowers by scavenging reactive oxygen species, including by activating the expression of genes related to oxidoreductase activity and the activities of antioxidant-system-related enzymes catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), while decreasing the malondialdehyde (MDA) content. These results provide valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the extended VL of gerbera cut flowers and offer a foundation for developing more effective preservation techniques.

Abstract Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) /Cas12a system, also known as CRISPR/Cpf1, has been successfully harnessed for genome engineering in many plants, but not in grapevine yet. Here we developed and demonstrated the efficacy of CRISPR/Cas12a from Lachnospiraceae bacterium ND2006 (LbCas12a) in inducing targeted mutagenesis by targeting the tonoplastic monosaccharide transporter1 (TMT1) and dihydroflavonol-4-reductase 1 (DFR1) genes in 41B cells. Knockout of DFR1 gene altered flavonoid accumulation in dfr1 mutant cells. Heat treatment (34℃) improved the editing efficiencies of CRISPR/LbCas12a system, and the editing efficiencies of TMT1-crRNA1 and TMT1-crRNA2 increased from 35.3% to 44.6% and 29.9% to 37.3% after heat treatment, respectively. Moreover, the sequences of crRNAs were found to be predominant factor affecting editing efficiencies irrespective of the positions within the crRNA array designed for multiplex genome editing. In addition, genome editing with truncated crRNAs (trucrRNAs) showed that trucrRNAs with 20 nt guide sequences were as effective as original crRNAs with 24 nt guides in generating targeted mutagenesis, whereas trucrRNAs with shorter regions of target complementarity ≤ 18 nt in length may not induce detectable mutations in 41B cells. All these results provide evidence for further applications of CRISPR/LbCas12a system in grapevine as a powerful tool for genome engineering. Graphical Abstract

Objective In patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is increasingly being used for renal replacement and fluid management. However, critically ill surgical patients receiving combined ECMO and CRRT tend to have a high mortality rate, and there are limited studies on this population. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the risk factors for mortality in surgical patients receiving combined ECMO and CRRT.Methods Data of surgical patients who underwent ECMO between December 2013 and April 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to identify the risk variables. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to determine the cutoff value of albumin and age to predict death.Results A total of 199 patients on ECMO support were screened, of which 105 patients were included in the final analysis. Of 105 patients, 77 (73.33%) were treated with CRRT. Veno-arterial ECMO was performed in 97 cases (92.38%), and the rest were veno-venous ECMO (n = 8, 7.62%). Cardiovascular-related surgery was performed in the main patients (n = 86, 81.90%) and other types of surgery in 19 patients. In surgical patients on ECMO support, the logistic regression analysis showed that CRRT implantation, male sex, and age were the independent risks factors for mortality. Furthermore, the ROC curve analysis showed that age 48.5 years had the highest Youden index. In surgical patients on combined CRRT and ECMO, age, valvular heart disease, and albumin were the independent risk factors for prognosis. Albumin had the highest Youden index at a cutoff value of 39.95 g/L for predicting mortality, though the overall predictive value was modest (area under ROC 0.704). Age had the highest Youden index at a cutoff value of 48.5 years for predicting mortality.Conclusions In our cohort of surgical patients requiring ECMO, which consisted mostly of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery requiring VA-ECMO, the need for CRRT was an independent risk factor for mortality. In the subset of patients on combined CRRT and ECMO, independent risk factors for mortality included higher age, lack of valvular heart disease, and lower serum albumin.

Abstract Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with high sensitivity over a broad linearity range have been attracting tremendous attention for its applications in health monitoring, artificial intelligence, and human-machine interfaces. Herein, we report a hierarchical in-situ filling porous piezoresistive sensor (HPPS) by direct ink writing (DIW) printing and curing of carbon nanofibers (CNFs)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) emulsion. Hierarchical geometry significantly increases the contact area, distributes stress to multilayered lattice and internal porous structure, resulting in a broad sensing range. Moreover, unlike conventional hollow porous structure, the CNFs networks in-situ filling porous structure generates more contact sites and conductive pathways during compression, thereby achieving high sensitivity and linearity over entire sensing range. Therefore, the optimized HPPS achieves high sensitivity (4.7 kPa−1) and linearity (coefficient of determination, R 2 = 0.998) over a broad range (0.03–1000 kPa), together with remarkable response time and repeatability. Furthermore, the applications in diverse pressure scenarios and healthcare monitoring are demonstrated.

Abstract Background Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a crucial role in abiotic stress responses. The pyrabactin resistance (PYR)/PYR-like (PYL)/regulatory component of ABA receptor (RCAR) proteins that have been characterized as ABA receptors function as the core components in ABA signaling pathway. However, the functions of grape PYL genes in response to different abiotic stresses, particularly cold stress, remain less studied. Results In this study, we investigated the expression profiles of grape PYL genes upon cold treatment and isolated the VaPYL4 gene from Vitis amurensis, a cold-hardy grape species. Overexpression of VaPYL4 gene in grape calli and Arabidopsis resulted in enhanced cold tolerance. Moreover, plant resistance to drought and salt stress was also improved by overexpressing VaPYL4 in Arabidopsis. More importantly, we evaluated the contribution of VaPYL4 to plant growth and development after the treatment with cold, salt and drought stress simultaneously. The transgenic plants showed higher survival rates, earlier flowering phenotype, and heavier fresh weight of seedlings and siliques when compared with wild-type plants. Physiological analyses showed that transgenic plants had much lower content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and higher peroxidase (POD) activity. Stress-responsive genes such as RD29A (Responsive to desiccation 29A), COR15A (Cold responsive 15A) and KIN2 (Kinase 2) were also significantly up-regulated in VaPYL4-overexpressing Arabidopsis plants. Conclusions Our results show that overexpression of VaPYL4 could improve plant performance upon different abiotic stresses, which therefore provides a useful strategy for engineering future crops to deal with adverse environments.

Formation leak-off pressure, which sets the upper limit of the safe drilling fluid density window, is crucial for preventing wellbore accidents and ensuring safe and efficient drilling operations. The paper thoroughly examines models of drilling physics alongside artificial intelligence techniques. The study introduces a dual-driven method for predicting reservoir pore pressure by integrating long short-term memory (LSTM) and backpropagation (BP) neural networks, where the core component is the LSTM-BP neural network model. The input data for the LSTM-BP model include wellbore diameter, formation density, sonic time, natural gamma, mud content, and pore pressure. The study demonstrates the practical application of the method using two vertical wells in Block M, employing the M-1 well for training and the M-2 well for validation. Two distinct input layer configurations are devised for the LSTM-BP model to evaluate the influence of formation density on prediction accuracy. Notably, Scheme 2 omits formation density as a variable in contrast to Scheme 1. The study’s results indicate that, for input layer configurations corresponding to Scenario 1 and Scenario 2, the LSTM-BP model exhibits relative error ranges of (−2.467%, 2.510%) and (−6.141%, 5.201%) on the test set, respectively. In Scenario 1, the model achieves mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and R-squared (R2) values of 0.000229935, 0.011198329, and 0.92178272, respectively, on the test set. Conversely, for Scenario 2, the model demonstrates a substantial escalation of 992.393% and 240.674% in MSE and MAE, respectively, compared to Scenario 1; however, R2 diminishes by 66.920%. Utilizing the trained LSTM-BP model, predictions for formation lost pressure in Well M-2 reveal linear correlation coefficients of 0.8173 and 0.6451 corresponding to Scenario 1 and Scenario 2, respectively. These findings imply that the predictions from the Scenario 1 model demonstrate stronger alignment with results derived from formulaic calculations. These observations remain consistent for both the BP neural network algorithm and the random forest algorithm. The aforementioned research results not only highlight the elevated predictive precision of the LSTM-BP model for intelligent prediction of formation lost pressure, a product of this study, thereby furnishing valuable data points to enhance the security of drilling operations in Block M, but also underscore the necessity of deliberating both physical relevance and data correlation during the selection of input layer variables.

Background: Short Tandem repeats (STRs) existed as popular elements in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomes. Results: In this study, we analyzed the characteristics, distributions, and motif features of STRs within whole-genomes of 140 plant species. The results showed that STR density was negatively correlated with the genome size. Hexanucleotide repeat was the most abundant type of STRs. The distribution of algae shows a preference different from that of other plants. By analyzing GC contents of STRs and genome, it was concluded that STR motif was influenced by GC contents. Analysis of the long STRs in genome (length ≥ 1000 bp) found that dicots have the more long STRs. For STR types, di- and tri-nucleotide accounted for the highest proportion. Analyzing and designing long STRs in CDS (length ≥ 500 bp) was to verify the role of long STRs in Gossypium hirsutum TM-1 and Solanum tuberosum. By comparing the long STRs found in Fragaria x ananassa with other species, some evolutionary characteristics of the long STRs were obtained. Conclusions: We got the characteristics, distribution, and motif features of STRs in the whole genome of 140 plants and obtained some evolutionary characteristics of long STRs. IntroductionCurrent targeted pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) therapies have improved lung hemodynamics, cardiac function, and quality of life; however, none of these have reversed the ongoing remodeling of blood vessels. Considering notopterol, a linear furocoumarin extracted from the root of traditional Chinese medicine Qiang-Huo (Notopterygium incisum), had shown the antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory properties in previous studies, we hypothesized that it could play a role in ameliorating PAH.MethodsIn vivo, we conducted monocrotaline (MCT) induced PAH rats and treated them with notopterol for 3 weeks. Then, the rats were examined by echocardiography and RV catheterization. The heart and lung specimens were harvested for the detection of gross examination, histological examination and expression of inflammatory molecules. In vitro, human pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (HPASMCs) were treated with notopterol after hypoxia; then, cell proliferation was assessed by cell counting kit-8 and Edu assay, and cell migration was detected by wound healing assays.ResultsWe found that notopterol improved mortality rate and RV function while reducing right ventricular systolic pressure in MCT-induced PAH rats. Furthermore, notopterol reduced right ventricular hypertrophy and fibrosis, and it also eased pulmonary vascular remodeling and MCT-induced muscularization. In addition, notopterol attenuated the pro-inflammatory factor (IL-1β, IL-6) and PCNA in the lungs of PAH rats. For the cultured HPASMCs subjected to hypoxia, we found that notopterol can inhibit the proliferation and migration of HPASMCs.ConclusionOur studies show that notopterol exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects in the pulmonary arteries, which may contribute to prevention of PAH.

Abstract The development of stretchable electronics could enhance novel interface structures to solve the stretchability–conductivity dilemma, which remains a major challenge. Herein, we report a nano‐liquid metal (LM)‐based highly robust stretchable electrode (NHSE) with a self‐adaptable interface that mimics water‐to‐net interaction. Based on the in situ assembly of electrospun elastic nanofiber scaffolds and electrosprayed LM nanoparticles, the NHSE exhibits an extremely low sheet resistance of 52 mΩ sq−1. It is not only insensitive to a large degree of mechanical stretching (i.e., 350% electrical resistance change upon 570% elongation) but also immune to cyclic deformation (i.e., 5% electrical resistance increases after 330 000 stretching cycles with 100% elongation). These key properties are far superior to those of the state‐of‐the‐art reports. Its robustness and stability are verified under diverse circumstances, including long‐term exposure to air (420 days), cyclic submersion (30 000 times), and resilience against mechanical damages. The combination of conductivity, stretchability, and durability makes the NHSE a promising conductor/electrode solution for flexible/stretchable electronics for applications such as wearable on‐body physiological signal detection, human–machine interaction, and heating e‐skin.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the mechanism underlying cerebral dysfunction after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), although the exact details have not been elucidated. To explore the expression profiles of lncRNAs and miRNAs in DHCA cerebral injury, we determined the lncRNA, miRNA and mRNA expression profiles in the cerebral cortex of DHCA and sham rats. First, a rat model of DHCA was established, and high-throughput sequencing was performed to analyze the differentially expressed RNAs (DERNAs). Then, the principal functions of the significantly deregulated genes were identified using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses. Expression networks (lncRNAs-miRNAs-mRNAs and transcription factors (TFs)-miRNAs-mRNAs) were also established. Finally, the expression of DERNAs was confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR). We identified 89 lncRNAs, 45 miRNAs and 59 mRNAs between the DHCA and sham groups and constructed a comprehensive competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) network. A TF-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network was also established. Finally, we predicted that Lcorl-miR-200a-3p-Ttr, BRD4-Ccl2 and Ep300-miR-200b-3p-Tmem72 may participate in the pathogenesis of DHCA cerebral injury.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, a novel class of hypoglycemic drugs, show excellent cardiovascular benefits, and have further improved heart failure outcomes, significantly reducing cardiovascular and all-cause mortality irrespective of diabetes status. However, the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dapagliflozin in rats with PAH and RV dysfunction. PAH was induced in rats by monocrotaline (MCT) subcutaneous injection (60 mg/kg). Isolated RV dysfunction was induced in another group of rats by pulmonary trunk banding (PTB). Dapagliflozin (1.5 mg/kg) was administered daily via oral gavage one day (prevention groups) or two weeks (reversal groups) after modeling. Echocardiography and hemodynamic assessments were used to observe pulmonary vascular resistance and RV function. Histological staining was used to observe pulmonary vascular and RV remodeling. As compared with MCT group, dapagliflozin treatment did not significantly improve the survival of rats. Pulmonary arterial media wall thickness in MCT group was significantly increased, but dapagliflozin did not significantly improved vascular remodeling both in the prevention group and reversal group. In MCT group, RV hypertrophy index, RV area, the fibrosis of RV increased significantly, and RV function decreased significantly. Consistently, dapagliflozin did not show protective effect on the RV remodeling and function. In the PTB model, we also did not find the direct effect of dapagliflozin on the RV. This is a negative therapeutic experiment, suggesting human trials with dapagliflozin for PAH or RV failure should be cautious.

Doubly-fed flux reversal permanent magnet (DF-FRPM) machine with two independent armature windings accommodating in stator and rotor slots separately exhibits larger torque density than conventional FRPM due to higher utilization rate of rotor space. In this paper, the investigation is focused on the airgap field modulation and torque contribution of dominating harmonics in DF-FRPM machine. Besides the open-circuit airgap flux density, both stator and rotor armature reaction are qualitatively analyzed by magneto-motive force (MMF)-permeance model considering stator and rotor saliency since the two independently supplied armature windings both make contributions to the torque production. The pole pairs and rotating speed of field harmonics are addressed. Dominating field harmonics that contribute to electromagnetic torque are identified and validated by finite element (FE) analysis.

Background Myocardial injury is a frequent complication after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This study aimed to test the hypothesis that melatonin could attenuate myocardial injury in a rat CPB model. Methods Eighteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups, n = 6 for each group: the sham operation (SO) group, CPB group and melatonin group. Rats in the SO group underwent cannulation without CPB, rats in CPB group intraperitoneal injected an equal volume of vehicle daily for 7 days before being subjected to CPB and rats in melatonin group intraperitoneal injected 20 mg/kg of melatonin solution daily for 7 days before being subjected to CPB. After 120 min for CPB, the expression levels of plasma interleukin (IL) -6, IL-1β, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), malondialdehyde (MDA), creatine kinase (CK) -MB and cardiac troponin T (cTnT) were measured. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) were detected by dihydroethidium (DHE). Apoptosis was detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) staining. Mitochondrial damage and autophagosomes were detected by electron microscopy. Apoptosis inducing factor (AIF) was detected by immunofluorescence. The expression of B cell lymphoma/leukemia2 associated X (Bax), B cell lymphoma/leukemia 2 (Bcl-2), cytochrome C (Cyto-C), cleaved caspase-9, AKT, p-AKT, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), p-STAT3, LC3, P62, mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase (mTOR), p-mTOR and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) were determined using western blotting. Results Melatonin significantly decreased the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, MDA, CK-MB and cTnT and increased the levels of SOD and GSH-Px, all of which were altered by CPB. Melatonin reduced cardiomyocyte superoxide production, the apoptosis index and autophagy in cardiomyocytes induced by CPB. The AKT, STAT3 and mTOR signaling pathways were activated by melatonin during CPB. Conclusion Melatonin may serve as a cardioprotective factor in CPB by inhibiting oxidative damage, apoptosis and autophagy. The AKT, STAT3 and mTOR signaling pathways were involved in this process.

Background Immunity and inflammation are considered to be central features of pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH), in which macrophages are one of the main components of inflammatory cell infiltration around the pulmonary artery. M2b macrophages, which are different from M1 and M2 macrophages, are believed to have immunomodulatory activities and produce little fibrosis. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of M2b macrophages on pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) derived from monocrotaline-induced PAH rats. Methods PASMCs were cultured in serum-free medium, the supernatant of M0 macrophages, or the supernatant of M2b macrophages for 24 hours. Then cell proliferation was assessed by cell counting kit-8 and cell migration ability was detected by wound healing and transwell assays. The apoptosis rate of cells was determined by TUNEL staining and annexin V-PE/7-ADD staining. Western blot was used to detect the expression of Bcl-2 family proteins, cleaved caspase-9 and PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway. LY294002 (a specific inhibitor of PI3K) was used to investigate its effect on PASMCs and its relationship with M2b macrophages. Results Conditioned medium from M2b macrophages significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of PASMCs compared with the control group and M0 macrophage group. Furthermore, conditioned medium from M2b macrophages promote PASMC apoptosis and increased the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins Bax and cleaved caspase-9, inhibited the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl. Finally, conditioned medium from M2b macrophages inhibited the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway. Inhibition of PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway also significantly inhibit the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis resistance of PASMCs. Conclusion Conditioned medium from M2b macrophages can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis resistance of PASMCs, which may be at least partially by deregulating the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway.

Ga doping is an important method to regulate the energy structure and photoelectric properties of CuInS2. CuIn1-xGaxS2 films were prepared by using copper nitrate, indium nitrate, gallium nitrate and thioacetamide as raw materials and anhydrous ethanol as the solvent. The effects of reacting time and temperature on the phase composition were studied, and the energy band gaps were calculated and analyzed. Experimental results show that, during the holding time of 5–20 h, the XRD peak intensities of CuIn1-xGaxS2 films were obviously enhanced with the increase of holding time, and the crystallinity became better. When the holding time is 20 h, the crystallinity of CuIn1-xGaxS2 films became better with the increase of reaction temperature between 180 °C and 220 °C. When the reaction temperature exceeded 200 °C, the crystallinity gradually deteriorated. The XRD peaks of CuIn1-xGaxS2 film shifts to the right as the concentration of Ga increased, but it is always between those of CuInS2 and CuGaS2. When the concentration of Ga is 0, the XRD peak of the target product is obviously stronger than other concentrations, and the crystallinity is the best. When the concentration of Ga is more than 0.2, as the concentration of Ga increased, the XRD peak intensities of CuIn1-xGaxS2 film are weak and the crystallinity is deteriorated. The estimated band gap of CuIn1-xGaxS2 film gradually increases with the increase of Ga concentration, but it is always between CuInS2 band gap 1.45 eV and CuGaS2 band gap 2.43 eV.

Here, static and dynamic (rotating) misalignments between the low-speed rotor (LSR) and the stator of axial flux magnetically geared machines are studied with the aid of 3-D finite element analysis (FEA). The influence of rotor/stator axis misalignments on machine performance in terms of cogging torque, air-gap flux density, and back-EMF is investigated with reference to the fully healthy condition. The results show that the LSR and HSR cogging torques are significantly affected by such misalignments due to distorted air-gap flux density. However, the amplitude and the harmonics of the back-EMF are only slightly changed. Furthermore, the influence of the misalignments on the machine torque performance is investigated. It is shown that the machine torque is significantly reduced when the LSR axis is misaligned with the axis of the stator. Thus, it is concluded that the torque performance of axial flux magnetically geared machines significantly deteriorates under static and dynamic axis misalignments. In addition, the two types of misalignments have similar effects on machine performance.

This paper proposes a two-stage method for hand depth image denoising and superresolution, using bilateral filters and learned dictionaries via noise-aware orthogonal matching pursuit (NAOMP) based K-SVD. The bilateral filtering phase recovers singular points and removes artifacts on silhouettes by averaging depth data using neighborhood pixels on which both depth difference and RGB similarity restrictions are imposed. The dictionary learning phase uses NAOMP for training dictionaries which separates faithful depth from noisy data. Compared with traditional OMP, NAOMP adds a residual reduction step which effectively weakens the noise term within the residual during the residual decomposition in terms of atoms. Experimental results demonstrate that the bilateral phase and the NAOMP-based learning dictionaries phase corporately denoise both virtual and real depth images effectively.
