Abstract: We present the results for CAPRI Round 50, the fourth joint CASP-CAPRI protein assembly prediction challenge. The Round comprised a total of twelve targets, including six dimers, three trimers, and three higher-order oligomers. Four of these were easy targets, for which good structural templates were available either for the full assembly, or for the main interfaces (of the higher-order oligomers). Eight were difficult targets for which only distantly related templates were found for the individual subunits. Twenty-five CAPRI groups including eight automatic servers submitted ~1250 models per target. Twenty groups including six servers participated in the CAPRI scoring challenge submitted ~190 models per target. The accuracy of the predicted models was evaluated using the classical CAPRI criteria. The prediction performance was measured by a weighted scoring scheme that takes into account the number of models of acceptable quality or higher submitted by each group as part of their five top-ranking models. Compared to the previous CASP-CAPRI challenge, top performing groups submitted such models for a larger fraction (70–75%) of the targets in this Round, but fewer of these models were of high accuracy. Scorer groups achieved stronger performance with more groups submitting correct models for 70–80% of the targets or achieving high accuracy predictions. Servers performed less well in general, except for the MDOCKPP and LZERD servers, who performed on par with human groups. Abstract: International audience; An exact solution of expansion coefficients for a T-matrix method interacting with acoustic scattering of arbitrary order Bessel beams from an obstacle of arbitrary location is derived analytically. Because of the failure of the addition theorem for spherical harmonics for expansion coefficients of helicoidal Bessel beams, an addition theorem for cylindrical Bessel functions is introduced. Meanwhile, an analytical expression for the integral of products including Bessel and associated Legendre functions is applied to eliminate the integration over the polar angle. Note that this multipole expansion may also benefit other scattering methods and expansions of incident waves, for instance, partial-wave series solutions.

Abstract: International audience; Acoustic radiation torque (ART) plays an important role in the subject of acoustophoresis, which could induce the spinning rotation of particles on their own axes. The partial wave series method (PWSM) and T matrix method (TMM) are employed to investigate the three-dimensional radiation torques of both spherical and nonspherical objects in a single Bessel beam over broader frequencies (from Rayleigh scattering to geometric-optics regimes), with emphasis on the parametric conditions for torque reversal and the corresponding physical mechanisms. For elastic objects, the dipole, quadrupole, and even several higherscattering modes are dominant to induce the axial ARTs beyond the Rayleigh limit with a relatively large offset from the particle centroid to the beam axis in Bessel beams. The reversals appear with parametric conditions (including wave number, cone angle, and offset) for the extrema or null values of the corresponding cylindrical Bessel functions. The reversal of transverse ART from a rigid nonspherical particle is also investigated in an ordinary Bessel beam and the geometrical surface roughness is briefly studied for the effect on the radiation torques. This suggests the possibility of acoustic tweezers controlling the spinning motion of particles within and beyond the Rayleigh limit.

Abstract: Acoustic radiation forces (ARFs) induced by a single Bessel beam with arbitrary order and location on a nonspherical shape are studied using the T-matrix method (TMM) in three dimensions. Based on the radiation stress tensor approach and the multipole expansion method for the arbitrary Bessel beam, the ARF expressions are derived in terms of the incident and scattered beam shape coefficients independently with the corresponding homemade code packages. Several numerical experiments are conducted to verify the versatility of the TMM. The axial acoustic radiation forces (ARFs) of several typical shapes are considered in the analysis with the emphasis on the axial ARF reversal and the corresponding physical mechanism. This study may guide the experimental set-up to find negative axial ARFs quickly and effectively based on the predicted parameters with TMM. Relatively elongated shapes may be helpful for pulling forces in Bessel beams. Furthermore, the lateral ARFs for both convex and concave nonspherical shapes are also investigated with different topological charges, cone angles and offsets of the particle centroid to the beam axis in a broadband frequency regime. A brief theoretical derivation of the incident beam shape coefficients for the standing Bessel beams is also given. Abstract: International audience; Assembling polymer electrolytes (PEs) with lithium metal anodes is a promising strategy to address safety and specific capacity concerns. Molecular design on conductive polymer matrices avoids inherent high crystallinity, poor ion transport, and combustion drawbacks by adjusting the chain structure and functional groups. However, conventional structural modulation methods are difficult to conduct via in situ polymerization and cell assembly, thus hampering the further performance enhancement of PEs in lithium batteries. Herein, we report a simple aza-Michael addition method induced by lithium salts for designing and fabricating high-performance PEs. This method fulfills the in situ structure modulation of polyether-based PEs without any introduction of non-electrolytic components. The obtained polyether electrolytes exhibit a more amorphous cross-linked structure, leading to a favorable medium for ion migration and excellent flexibility. In addition, the introduction of C–N bonds imparts excellent non-flammability to the material as well as the ability to interact with sulfolane. Hence, the in situ-constructed gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) is characterized by a high ionic conductivity (1.76 × 10–4 S cm–1 at 30 °C) and excellent interface stability with the electrodes. The assembled Li/LiFePO4 (LFP) battery based on this newly designed GPE exhibits a high initial specific discharge capacity and a good rate performance (112.7 mAh g–1 at 5 C). Long-term stability was also demonstrated, with a capacity retention of 86.8% after 500 cycles at 0.5 C.

Abstract: Background: Patients with minor acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack are at high risk for subsequent stroke, and more potent antiplatelet therapy in the acute setting is needed. However, the potential benefit of more intense antiplatelet therapy must be assessed in relation to the risk for major bleeding. The SOCRATES trial (Acute Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack Treated With Aspirin or Ticagrelor and Patient Outcomes) was the first trial with ticagrelor in patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack in which the efficacy and safety of ticagrelor were compared with those of aspirin. The main safety objective was assessment of PLATO (Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes)–defined major bleeds on treatment, with special focus on intracranial hemorrhage (ICrH). Methods: An independent adjudication committee blinded to study treatment classified bleeds according to the PLATO, TIMI (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction), and GUSTO (Global Use of Strategies to Open Occluded Coronary Arteries) definitions. The definitions of ICrH and major bleeding excluded cerebral microbleeds and asymptomatic hemorrhagic transformations of cerebral infarctions so that the definitions better discriminated important events in the acute stroke population. Results: A total of 13 130 of 13 199 randomized patients received at least 1 dose of study drug and were included in the safety analysis set. PLATO major bleeds occurred in 31 patients (0.5%) on ticagrelor and 38 patients (0.6%) on aspirin (hazard ratio, 0.83; 95% confidence interval, 0.52–1.34). The most common locations of major bleeds were intracranial and gastrointestinal. ICrH was reported in 12 patients (0.2%) on ticagrelor and 18 patients (0.3%) on aspirin. Thirteen of all 30 ICrHs (4 on ticagrelor and 9 on aspirin) were hemorrhagic strokes, and 4 (2 in each group) were symptomatic hemorrhagic transformations of brain infarctions. The ICrHs were spontaneous in 6 and 13, traumatic in 3 and 3, and procedural in 3 and 2 patients on ticagrelor and aspirin, respectively. In total, 9 fatal bleeds occurred on ticagrelor and 4 on aspirin. The composite of ICrH or fatal bleeding included 15 patients on ticagrelor and 18 on aspirin. Independently of bleeding classification, PLATO, TIMI, or GUSTO, the relative difference between treatments for major/severe bleeds was similar. Nonmajor bleeds were more common on ticagrelor. Conclusions: Antiplatelet therapy with ticagrelor in patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack showed a bleeding profile similar to that of aspirin for major bleeds. Abstract: International audience; In this brief we investigate the fixed-time synchronization of competitive neural networks with multiple timescales. These neural networks play an important role in visual processing, pattern recognition, neural computing, etc. Our main contribution is the design of a novel synchronizing controller which does not depend on the ratio between the fast and slow time scales. This feature makes the controller easy to implement since it is designed through well-posed algebraic conditions (i.e. even when the ratio between the time scales goes to 0 the controller gain is well defined and does not go to infinity). Last but not least, the closed-loop dynamics is characterized by a high convergence speed with a settling time which is upper-bounded and the bound is independent of the initial conditions. A numerical simulation illustrates our results and emphasizes their effectiveness. Abstract: International audience; This paper studies a novel multi-access coded caching (MACC) model where the topology between users and cache nodes is a generalization of those already studied in previous work, such as combinatorial and cross-resolvable design topologies. Our goal is to minimize the worst-case transmission load in the delivery phase from the server over all possible user requests. By formulating the access topology as two classical combinatorial structures, t-design and t-group divisible design, we propose two classes of coded caching schemes for a flexible number of users, where the number of users can scale linearly, polynomially or exponentially with the number of cache nodes. In addition, our schemes can unify most schemes for the shared link network and unify many schemes for the multi-access network except for the cyclic wrap-around topology.

Abstract: International audience; Glass scintillators have several benefits compared to the currently used single or polycrystalline scintillators, including non-hygroscopicity, mechanical ruggedness, ease of producing customizable shapes, and low-cost synthesis. The combination of the inert glass matrix and the embedded highly scintillating center render them significant materials for medical imaging and therapy, non-destructive probing, nuclear monitoring, and high-energy physics. Recently, great progress has been made in exploring new kinds of glass scintillator materials, improving imaging resolution for radiation detection, and developing an enormous range of commercial products. However, the majority of efforts have been devoted to the variation of materials, while rationally designing this new family of scintillators toward expected properties and applications is still lacking. In this review, the focus is specifically on advances in glass scintillators, including the scintillation fundamentals, material designing rule, and current application status, as well as future challenges and future directions.

Abstract: International audience; 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites have demonstrated highperformance emitters, and large-sized perovskite single crystals have always been pursued for efficient optoelectronic devices. However, large-sized 2D RP perovskite single crystals with high quality are still difficult to achieve due to the weak interaction between layers and strong anisotropy. Here, we show a rational design strategy to synthesize centimeter-sized 2D BM2PbBr4 (BM = benzimidazole) perovskite single crystals by intermediate-phase engineering (IPE). 1D (DMF)2BMPbBr3 intermediate-phase single crystals were structurally decoupled and transformed to perfect 2D BM2PbBr4 seed crystals with a certain thickness, presenting a huge advantage over the extrathin crystal sheets in random stacking by natural crystallization. Furthermore, the new BM with conjugated structures we obtained as the A-site of the 2D RP perovskite enhances the exciton confinement, resulting in a surprisingly large excitonic binding energy of 368.2 meV. The emitting decay time is shortened to 0.98 ns, which is the smallest among all the perovskite materials. Tailoring of the X-site components for 2D RP BM2PbBr4 - xClx (x = 1, 2, 3, and 4) series with tunable luminescence and decay time was also synthesized by IPE. We believe IPE provides a new way for synthesizing large-sized perovskite single crystals with fine-tunable properties to satisfy the target applications.

Abstract: International audience; Lead-free double perovskites (DPs) have outstanding luminescent properties, which make them excellent candidates for wide use in optoelectronics. Herein, a solvent-free melting-crystallization technique, which can produce kilogram-scale DP microcrystals (DP-MCs) in one batch, is invented to synthesize the Cs(2)Na(x)Ag(1-x)InCl(6): Bi (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1) DP-MCs. The structure and composition analysis confirmed the products are pure Cs(2)Na(x)Ag(1-x)InCl(6) DP-MCs. Affected by Jahn-Teller distortion of AgCl(6) octahedra, self-trapped excitons appear in the excited state, resulting in the broadband emission (400-850 nm) of Cs(2)Ag(1-x)Na(x)InCl(6): Bi DP-MCs. The enhancement of the photoluminescence quantum yield can be realized by introducing Na(+) to break the parity-forbidden transition in the Cs(2)AgInCl(6) DP. Optimized Cs(2)Na(0.4)Ag(0.6)InCl(6): Bi DP-MC phosphors combined with commercial blue and green phosphors were coated on ultraviolet chips (365 nm) to fabricate white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) from warm white (2930 K) to cold white (6957 K). An ultrahigh color rendering index of 97.1 and a CCT of 5548 K as well as Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage color coordinates of (0.331, 0.339) have been demonstrated. This kilogram-scale synthesis technique could stimulate the industrial development of WLEDs for general lighting based on DP-MC phosphors.

Abstract: International audience; The development of AFA steels as potential structural material for lead alloy cooled nuclear reactors was initiated at KTH and KIT some years ago due to the observation of LME (liquid metal embrittlement) in lead alloys of ferritic steels. Two general concepts were followed by the two involved institution, a lean AFA with low Ni by KTH and a high alloyed AFA by KIT. In the frame of the H2020 EU project GEMMA three generations of both AFA routes were tested to explore the most preferable compositions. Corrosion tests in Pb at temperatures up to 650°C showed the potential of the best compositions. Finally, some mechanical data by small punch test, SSRT Tests and nanoindendation showed the ductility of most of the tested alloys. First ion irradiation on selected alloys revealed no hardening effect for both AFA concepts.The presentation will give an overview on the work performed and on the actual status of the research in Europe on AFA steels for lead alloy cooled nuclear reactors.

Abstract: International audience; Branch and Bound (BnB) has been successfully used to solve many combinatorial optimization problems. However, BnB MaxSAT solvers perform poorly when solving real-world and academic optimization problems. They are only competitive for random and some crafted instances. Thus, it is a prevailing opinion in the community that BnB is not really useful for practical MaxSAT solving. We refute this opinion by presenting a new BnB MaxSAT solver, called MaxCDCL, which combines clause learning and an efficient bounding procedure. MaxCDCL is among the top 5 out of a total of 15 exact solvers that participated in the 2020 MaxSAT Evaluation, solving several instances that other solvers cannot solve. Furthermore, MaxCDCL solves the highest number of instances from different MaxSAT Evaluations when combined with the best existing solvers.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, for the first time, we investigate the relationship between infrastructure and sectoral distribution of FDI inflow in China. We use the Estimating Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bound testing and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) procedures of estimation. To unmask the shortcomings in the previous literature, we use a composite index of infrastructure with more than 30 indicators. The results show that there is a long-run relationship between sectoral FDI and infrastructure. A bidirectional causal relationship is confirmed by using VECM. However, we find unidirectional causality between the primary sector's FDI and infrastructure, and it is running from infrastructure to primary sector FDI. The inclusion of control variables, e.g., institutional quality, trade openness, and domestic investment, is robust in our analysis. The positive role of infrastructure in the sectoral distribution of FDI inflows is of utmost importance for policymakers and Chinese-government. Several policy implications are given in our study.

Abstract: International audience; This book presents a unified theory of random matrices for applications in machine learning, offering a large-dimensional data vision that exploits concentration and universality phenomena. This enables a precise understanding, and possible improvements, of the core mechanisms at play in real-world machine learning algorithms. The book opens with a thorough introduction to the theoretical basics of random matrices, which serves as a support to a wide scope of applications ranging from SVMs, through semi-supervised learning, unsupervised spectral clustering, and graph methods, to neural networks and deep learning. For each application, the authors discuss small- versus large-dimensional intuitions of the problem, followed by a systematic random matrix analysis of the resulting performance and possible improvements. All concepts, applications, and variations are illustrated numerically on synthetic as well as real-world data, with MATLAB and Python code provided on the accompanying website.

Abstract: International audience; The influences of the electrode/ionic liquids interfaces on the charge transfer kinetics are addressed with the example of the oxidation of chromocene at a single crystal Ag(111) electrode. We considered three different imidazolium-based room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) with alkyl chains of different lengths but with a common anion. The standard charge transfer rate constants k° are extracted from cyclic voltammograms (CVs) by analyzing the peak potential variations with the scan rate and/or performing semi-integral electroanalysis with a careful treatment of the ohmic drop. Linear variations between the logarithms of k° and the longitudinal relaxation times τL or the dynamic viscosity η of the ionic liquids are obtained. However, the amplitude of the decrease is much larger than it could be expected from the sole bulk properties of the ionic liquid indicating a strong effect of the interface on the kinetics. These observations agree with a well-organized electrode/RTIL interface that behaves as a sort of self-assembled monolayer that controls the charge transfer kinetics with an exponential tunneling coefficient β of 5.51 nm−1.

Abstract: International audience; Solid State Devices (SSDs) have been widely adopted in con- tainerized cloud platforms as they provide parallel and high- speed data accesses for critical data-intensive applications. Unfortunately, the I/O stack of the physical host overlooks the layered and independent nature of containers, thus I/O operations require expensive file redirect (between the stor- age driver, Overlay2/EXT4, and the virtual file system, VFS) and are scheduled sequentially. Moreover, containers suffer from significant I/O contention as resources at the native file system are shared between them. This paper presents a Container-aware I/O stack (CAST). CAST is made up of Layer-aware VFS (LaVFS) and Container-aware Native File System (CaFS). LaVFS locates files based on layer information and enables simultaneous Copy-on-Write (CoW) operations and thus avoids the overhead of searching and modifying files. CaFS, on the other hand, provides contention-free ac- cess by designing fine-grain resource allocation at the native file system. Experimental results using a NVMe SSD with micro-benchmarks and real-world applications show that CAST achieves 216%-219% (38%-98%, respectively) improve- ment over the original I/O stack.

Abstract: International audience; Despite the fact that antimony triselenide (Sb(2) Se(3) ) thin-film solar cell has undergone rapid development in recent years, the large open-circuit voltage (V(OC) ) deficit still remains to be the biggest bottleneck as even the world record device suffers from a large V(OC) deficit of 0.59 V. Here, an effective interface engineering approach is reported where the Sb(2) Se(3) /CdS heterojunction (HTJ) was subjected to a post-annealing treatment using rapid thermal process. It was found that non-radiative recombination near the Sb(2) Se(3) /CdS HTJ including interface recombination and space charge region recombination were greatly suppressed after the HTJ annealing treatment. Ultimately, a substrate Sb(2) Se(3) /CdS thin-film solar cell with a competitive power conversion efficiency of 8.64% and a record V(OC) of 0.52 V has been successfully fabricated. The device exhibits a much mitigated V(OC) deficit of 0.49 V, which is lower than that of any other reported efficient antimony chalcogenide solar cell. This article is protected by copyright. Abstract: Andrews and Merca investigated a truncated version of Euler's pentagonal number theorem and showed that the coefficients of the truncated series are nonnegative. They also considered the truncated series arising from Jacobi's triple product identity, and they that its coefficients are nonnegative. This conjecture was posed by Guo and Zeng independently and confirmed by Mao and Yee using different approaches. In this paper, we provide a new combinatorial proof of their nonnegativity result related to Euler's pentagonal number theorem. Abstract: International audience; Three main components of biomass were pyrolyzed individually in a closed reaction system at 500–700 °C for 60s and 90s. Then bio-oil heavy compounds were further analyzed with Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance-mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS) and Kendrick mass defect (KMD) analysis. The evolution paths of heavy compounds for the different pyrolysis stages were proposed. It was found that the sugars and phenolic-like species in heavy compounds were the most active substances during secondary reactions. Moreover, the rising temperature promoted this secondary reaction of phenolic-like species as the decrease in their abundances growing from 13% to 54%, while contrarily inhibited it for hemicellulose as the decrease in their abundances changing from 44% to −2%. The lignin-derived lipids and unsaturated hydrocarbons that generated in the secondary reactions increased with rising temperature. KMD analysis showed that the heavy compounds of cellulose and hemicellulose prefer homologous evolution during pyrolysis, while those of lignin had more complex evolution paths like cracking and recombination.

Abstract: International audience; Membrane proteins, including ion channels, receptors and transporters, are often composed of multiple subunits and can form large complexes. Their specific composition in native tissues is difficult to determine and remains largely unknown. In this study, we developed a method for determining the subunit composition of endogenous cell surface protein complexes from isolated native tissues. Our method relies on nanobody-based sensors, which enable proximity detection between subunits in time-resolved Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) measurements. Additionally, given conformation-specific nanobodies, the activation of these complexes can be recorded in native brain tissue. Applied to the metabotropic glutamate receptors in different brain regions, this approach revealed the clear existence of functional metabotropic glutamate (mGlu)2-mGlu4 heterodimers in addition to mGlu2 and mGlu4 homodimers. Strikingly, the mGlu4 subunits appear to be mainly heterodimers in the brain. Overall, these versatile biosensors can determine the presence and activity of endogenous membrane proteins in native tissues with high fidelity and convenience.

Abstract: Speckle noise is inherent to radar measurements. For applications which need both a high temporal and high spatial resolution, a classical method for the reduction of the speckle noise by filtering the backscattered signal may not be sufficient. In particular, when radar observations are used to estimate ocean wave spectra from relative fluctuations of the radar signal within a given footprint, a method must be implemented to correct for the speckle effect in the Fourier domain (i.e., density spectrum). A theoretical background to model the speckle density spectrum for a radar with near-nadir incidences was proposed by Jackson in 1981 but it is based on a stationary sea surface assumption and ignores the variation of the main factor in the four-frequency moment near the origin. In this article, we revisit this theoretical background to extend this model to a time-varying sea surface and alleviate some assumptions on the Fresnel phase formulation. The results from the model applied in the configuration of an airborne system indicate that not only the displacement of the radar but also the dynamic properties of the sea surfaces have a significant effect on the speckle noise spectrum in certain directions of observations. The effects depend on the radar look direction in azimuth, and on sea surface conditions (wind speed, wind direction with respect to the aircraft route, surface wave spectrum). This new model is validated against observations of the airborne near-nadir incidence scatterometer--Ku-band Radar for Observation of Surfaces (KuROS). We show in particular that the errors between the experimental estimation of the omni-directional speckle noise spectrum from KuROS and the prediction by our model are below 10%.

Abstract: 34th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence / 32nd Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference / 10th AAAI Symposium on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence, New York, NY, FEB 07-12, 2020; International audience; The performance of a branch-and-bound (BnB) algorithm for maximum common subgraph (MCS) problem and its related problems, like maximum common connected subgraph (MCCS) and induced Subgraph Isomorphism (SI), crucially depends on the branching heuristic. We propose a branching heuristic inspired from reinforcement learning with a goal of reaching a tree leaf as early as possible to greatly reduce the search tree size. Experimental results show that the proposed heuristic consistently and significantly improves the current best BnB algorithm for the MCS, MCCS and SI problems. An analysis is carried out to give insight on why and how reinforcement learning is useful in the new branching heuristic.

Abstract: Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become ubiquitous power sources for small electronic devices, electric vehicles, and stationary energy storage systems. Despite the success of LIBs which is acknowledged by their increasing commodity market, the historical evolution of the chemistry behind the LIB technologies is laden with obstacles and yet to be unambiguously documented. This Viewpoint outlines chronologically the most essential findings related to today's LIBs, including commercial electrode and electrolyte materials, but furthermore also depicts how the today popular and widely emerging solid-state batteries were instrumental at very early stages in the development of LIBs.

Abstract: Pinacolato boronates (Bpin) with an empty p-orbital on boron stabilize an adjacent carbon radical, in contrast to diethanolamino boronates [B(DEA)] where the boron is sp3 -hybridized. By alternately placing a pinacol or diethanolamine moiety on the boron atom, thus stabilizing or not stabilizing the corresponding adjacent radical, it is possible to control the behavior of α-boronyl xanthates and construct a large variety of terminal or internal boronates in a modular fashion. The remarkable tolerance of polar groups and the ability to introduce quaternary centers are particularly noteworthy features of this process.

Abstract: Publisher's version (útgefin grein)., Both short and long sleep are associated with an adverse lipid profile, likely through different biological pathways. To elucidate the biology of sleep-associated adverse lipid profile, we conduct multi-ancestry genome-wide sleep-SNP interaction analyses on three lipid traits (HDL-c, LDL-c and triglycerides). In the total study sample (discovery + replication) of 126,926 individuals from 5 different ancestry groups, when considering either long or short total sleep time interactions in joint analyses, we identify 49 previously unreported lipid loci, and 10 additional previously unreported lipid loci in a restricted sample of European-ancestry cohorts. In addition, we identify new gene-sleep interactions for known lipid loci such as LPL and PCSK9. The previously unreported lipid loci have a modest explained variance in lipid levels: most notable, gene-short-sleep interactions explain 4.25% of the variance in triglyceride level. Abstract: International audience; Why do organizations develop and execute social media initiatives to create business value? This study addresses this prominent and critical research question for IS research on the business value of social media. Drawing on the institutional theory, we argue that mimetic, coercive, and normative pressure persuade organizations to use social media to improve marketing performance. We test our core proposition and theory-driven research model using data collected from a sample of leading Chinese agribusinesses. We find that coercive and mimetic pressure play pivotal roles in motivating organizations to use social media. We also discover that social media usage improves marketing performance and that the agribusiness market uncertainty plays a positive reinforcing role in the positive effect of social media usage on marketing performance. Thus, this paper contributes to IS research with an eloquent theoretical explanation and strong empirical evidence on why organizations deploy social media initiatives to improve their marketing activities and performance and the higher business value of social media under greater agribusiness market uncertainty.

Abstract: Our goal is to overcome treatment resistance in ovarian cancer patients which occurs in most cases after an initial positive response to chemotherapy. A central resistance mechanism is the maintenance of desmoglein-2 (DSG2) positive tight junctions between malignant cells that prevents drug penetration into the tumor. We have generated JO4, a recombinant protein that binds to DSG2 resulting in the transient opening of junctions in epithelial tumors. Here we present studies toward the clinical translation of c-JO4 in combination with PEGylated liposomal doxorubicin/Doxil for ovarian cancer therapy. A manufacturing process for cGMP compliant production of JO4 was developed resulting in c-JO4. GLP toxicology studies using material from this process in DSG2 transgenic mice and cynomolgus macaques showed no treatment-related toxicities after intravenous injection at doses reaching 24 mg/kg. Multiple cycles of intravenous c-JO4 plus Doxil (four cycles, 4 weeks apart, simulating the treatment regimen in the clinical trial) elicited antibodies against c-JO4 that increased with each cycle and were accompanied by elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNFα. Pretreatment with steroids and cyclophosphamide reduced anti-c-JO4 antibody response and blunted cytokine release. Our data indicate acceptable safety of our new treatment approach if immune reactions are monitored and counteracted with appropriate immune suppression.

Abstract: International audience; G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs) activate various mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways to regulate critical cell functions. β-Arrestins mediate this mechanism for most GPCRs but not the GABAB receptor (GABABR). When coupled to the G protein Gi/o, GABABR phosphorylates the kinases ERK1 and ERK2. Here, we uncovered a distinct β-arrestin–independent mechanism of MAPK pathway activation by GABABR. We found that GABABR also phosphorylated the kinase JNK downstream of activation of the small guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases) RhoA and Rac1 in primary mouse neurons. However, instead of Gi/o proteins, activation of this RhoA/Rac1-JNK pathway was mediated by G13. This pathway promoted the phosphorylation and accumulation of the postsynaptic scaffolding protein PSD95 and GABABR-mediated neuroprotection in granule neurons. In addition, this pathway synergized with a previously reported GABABR-mediated neuroprotection mediated by a Gi/o-dependent mechanism. GABABR agonists activated G13 with slower kinetics and lower potency than with which they activated Gi/o. Our findings reveal distinct, β-arrestin–independent, context-specific synergistic mechanisms of MAPK activation by G protein–mediated GPCR signaling.

Abstract: International audience; Neurotransmitter receptors are involved in cancer progression. Among them, the heterodimeric GABAB receptor, activated by the main inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, is composed of the transmembrane GABAB1 and GABAB2 subunits. The oncogenic role of the isoform GABAB1e (GB1e) containing only the extracellular domain of GABAB1 remains unclear. We revealed that GB1e is largely expressed in human breast cancer (BrCa) cell lines as well as in BrCa tissues where it is upregulated. Moreover, GB1e promoted the malignancy of BrCa cells both in vitro and in vivo. We propose that GB1e favors EGFR signaling by interacting with PTPN12 to disrupt the interaction between EGFR and PTPN12, and phosphorylation of Y230 and Y404 on GB1e is required in this process. Our data highlight that the GABBR1 gene through the expression of the GB1e isoform might play an important oncogenic role in BrCa and that GB1e is of interest for the treatment of some cancers.

Abstract: International audience; We analyse how the COVID-19 pandemic crisis created the window of opportunity (WOP) in the digital industry and digital applications. These led to the leapfrogging of digital transformation in China. This was considered a major contribution to the pandemic recovery in early to mid-2020. By exploring this phenomenon, we examine alternatives for sustainable development during such turbulent circumstances mediating the destruction arisen from the crisis. We unveil the mechanisms that reveal the large-scale digitalisation that emerged as part of the response to managing the crisis. We find that during this crisis in China, the WOPs from policy, technology and demand perspectives facilitated the leapfrogging of the digital transformation in numerous social and economic areas. More importantly, we also discover that the WOPs are unevenly distributed among firms, time, and locations. Based on these results, we put forth that the COVID-19 pandemic brings a relative window of opportunity (RWOP) to society, impacting industries and firms. However, these impacts are disproportionately distributed. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first studies to illustrate how a social crisis leads to WOPs enhancing digital transformation. Furthermore, this also ultimately provided a coping mechanism to deal with the pandemic.

Abstract: BackgroundThymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) is widely used to treat patients with COVID-19 in China; however, its efficacy remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the efficacy of Tα1 as a COVID-19 therapy.MethodsWe performed a multicenter cohort study in five tertiary hospitals in the Hubei province of China between December 2019 and March 2020. The patient non-recovery rate was used as the primary outcome.ResultsAll crude outcomes, including non-recovery rate (65/306 vs. 290/1,976, p = 0.003), in-hospital mortality rate (62/306 vs. 271/1,976, p = 0.003), intubation rate (31/306 vs. 106/1,976, p = 0.001), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) incidence (104/306 vs. 499/1,976, p = 0.001), acute kidney injury (AKI) incidence (26/306 vs. 66/1,976, p < 0.001), and length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay (14.9 ± 12.7 vs. 8.7 ± 8.2 days, p < 0.001), were significantly higher in the Tα1 treatment group. After adjusting for confounding factors, Tα1 use was found to be significantly associated with a higher non-recovery rate than non-Tα1 use (OR 1.5, 95% CI 1.1–2.1, p = 0.028). An increased risk of non-recovery rate associated with Tα1 use was observed in the patient subgroups with maximum sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) scores ≥2 (OR 2.0, 95%CI 1.4–2.9, p = 0.024), a record of ICU admission (OR 5.4, 95%CI 2.1–14.0, p < 0.001), and lower PaO2/FiO2 values (OR 1.9, 95%CI 1.1–3.4, p = 0.046). Furthermore, later initiation of Tα1 use was associated with a higher non-recovery rate.ConclusionTα1 use in COVID-19 patients was associated with an increased non-recovery rate, especially in those with greater disease severity.

Abstract: Hydrogen can play a key role in facilitating the transition to a future deeply decarbonized energy system and can help accommodate higher penetrations of renewables in the power system. Arguments to justify this conclusion are supported by an analysis based on realworld data from China’s Western Inner Mongolia (WIM). The economic feasibility and decarbonization potential of renewable-based hydrogen production are discussed through an integrated power-hydrogen-emission analytical framework. The framework combines a high-resolution wind resource analysis with hourly simulation for the operation of power systems and hydrogen production considering technical and economic specifications on selection of three different types of electrolyzers and two operating modes. Abstract: G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are important drug targets that mediate various signaling pathways by activating G proteins and engaging β-arrestin proteins. Despite its importance for the development of therapeutics with fewer side effects, the underlying mechanism that controls the balance between these signaling modes of GPCRs remains largely unclear. Here, we show that assembly into dimers and oligomers can largely influence the signaling mode of the platelet-activating factor receptor (PAFR). Single-particle analysis results show that PAFR can form oligomers at low densities through two possible dimer interfaces. Stabilization of PAFR oligomers through cross-linking increases G protein activity, and decreases β-arrestin recruitment and agonist-induced internalization significantly. Reciprocally, β-arrestin prevents PAFR oligomerization. Our results highlight a mechanism involved in the control of receptor signaling, and thereby provide important insights into the relationship between GPCR oligomerization and downstream signaling.

Abstract: International audience; Containers have been widely used in various cloud platforms as they enable agile and elastic application deployment through their process-based virtualization and layered image system. However, different layers of a container image may contain substantial duplicate and unnecessary data, which slows down its deployment due to long image downloading time and increased burden on the image registry. To accelerate the deployment and reduce the size of the registry, we propose a new image format, named Gear image, that consists of two parts: a Gear index describing the structure of the image’s file system and a set of files that are required when running an application. The Gear index is represented as a single-layer image compatible with the existing deployment framework. Containers can be launched by pulling a Gear index and on demand retrieving files pointed to by the index. Furthermore, the Gear image enables a file-level sharing mechanism, which helps remove duplicate data in the registry and avoid repeated downloading of identical files by a client. We implement a prototype of the container framework, named Gear, supporting the new image format. Evaluation shows that Gear saves 54% storage capacity in the registry, speeds up container startup by up to 5X, and reduces 84% bandwidth demands.

Abstract: Following the tendency of sustainable development, compressed natural gas as an alternative fuel has been expanded applied in the transportation sector these years. Although several studies on the life cycle are quite comprehensive for passenger vehicles, it is problematic to apply these results to heavy-duty electric hybrid trucks. This study applies the Well-to-Wheel methodology on compressed natural gas fuel. The optimized hybrid electric truck model is built up to minimize the truck performance variation. The total CO2 equivalent emissions and the methane leakage as indicators are compared among the three largest emitting countries. The results indicate that compressed natural gas-based hybrid trucks have 9.1%–18.7% less CO2 equivalent emissions than diesel-based ones and the results are more obvious for heavy-duty trucks. Nevertheless, this advantage may be minimized by methane leakage, particularly in the recovery process, accounted for 7.3% Total CO2 equivalent emissions increase in North America, 5.1% in Europe, 5.3% in China from well to wheel. Applying natural gas in hybrid electric trucks does have environmental benefits. Methane capturing and compression efficient improving can be the faster ways to help reach the emission reduction target.

Abstract: Retroviral nucleocapsid proteins harbor nucleic acid chaperoning activities that mostly rely on the N-terminal basic residues and the CCHC zinc finger motif. Such chaperoning is essential for virus replication, notably for genomic RNA selection and packaging in virions, and for reverse transcription of genomic RNA into DNA. Recent data revealed that HIV-1 nucleocapsid restricts reverse transcription during virus assembly – a process called late reverse transcription – suggesting a regulation between RNA packaging and late reverse transcription. Indeed, mutating the HIV-1 nucleocapsid basic residues or the two zinc fingers caused a reduction in RNA incorporated and an increase in newly made viral DNA in the mutant virions. MoMuLV nucleocapsid has an N-terminal basic region similar to HIV-1 nucleocapsid but a unique zinc finger. This prompted us to investigate whether the N-terminal basic residues and the zinc finger of MoMuLV and HIV-1 nucleocapsids play a similar role in genomic RNA packaging and late reverse transcription. To this end, we analyzed the genomic RNA and viral DNA contents of virions produced by cells transfected with MoMuLV molecular clones where the zinc finger was mutated or completely deleted or with a deletion of the N-terminal basic residues of nucleocapsid. All mutant virions showed a strong defect in genomic RNA content indicating that the basic residues and zinc finger are important for genomic RNA packaging. In contrast to HIV-1 nucleocapsid-mutants, the level of viral DNA in mutant MoMuLV virions was only slightly increased. These results confirm that the N-terminal basic residues and zinc finger of MoMuLV nucleocapsid are critical for genomic RNA packaging but, in contrast to HIV-1 nucleocapsid, they most probably do not play a role in the control of late reverse transcription. In addition, these results suggest that virus formation and late reverse transcription proceed according to distinct mechanisms for MuLV and HIV-1.

Abstract: Visual inspection of hepatocellular carcinoma cancer regions by experienced pathologists in whole-slide images (WSIs) is a challenging, labor-intensive, and time-consuming task because of the large scale and high resolution of WSIs. Therefore, a weakly supervised framework based on a multiscale attention convolutional neural network (MSAN-CNN) was introduced into this process. Herein, patch-based images with image-level normal/tumor annotation (rather than images with pixel-level annotation) were fed into a classification neural network. To further improve the performances of cancer region detection, multiscale attention was introduced into the classification neural network. A total of 100 cases were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and divided into 70 training and 30 testing data sets that were fed into the MSAN-CNN framework. The experimental results showed that this framework significantly outperforms the single-scale detection method according to the area under the curve and accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity metrics. When compared with the diagnoses made by three pathologists, MSAN-CNN performed better than a junior- and an intermediate-level pathologist, and slightly worse than a senior pathologist. Furthermore, MSAN-CNN provided a very fast detection time compared with the pathologists. Therefore, a weakly supervised framework based on MSAN-CNN has great potential to assist pathologists in the fast and accurate detection of cancer regions of hepatocellular carcinoma on WSIs.

Abstract: Immune checkpoint therapy, where CD8 tumor infiltrating T lymphocytes (TIL) are reactivated, is a promising anti‐cancer treatment approach, yet with low response rates. The extracellular matrix, in particular tenascin‐C, may generate barriers for TIL. To investigate this possibility, we used a MMTV‐NeuNT and syngeneic mammary gland grafting model derived thereof with engineered tenascin‐C levels and observed accumulation of CD8 TIL in tenascin‐C‐rich stroma. Inhibition studies revealed that tenascin‐C induced CXCL12 through TLR4. By binding CXCL12, tenascin‐C retained CD8 TIL in the stroma. Blockade of CXCR4, the receptor of CXCL12, enhanced macrophage and CD8 TIL infiltration and reduced tumor growth and subsequent metastasis. Retention of CD8 TIL by tenascin‐C/CXCL12 was also observed in human breast cancer by tissue staining. Moreover, whereas high CD8 TIL numbers correlated with longer metastasis‐free survival, this was not the case when also tenascin‐C and CXCL12 levels were high. Altogether, these results may be useful for improving tumor immunity as diagnostic tool and to formulate a future “TIL‐matrix‐release‐and‐reactivate” strategy., Matrix molecule Tenascin‐C influences immune exclusion by retaining CD8 TILs in the stroma. The release of CD8 TILs from the matrix restores immune defense, resulting in reduced tumor growth and subsequent metastasis of human breast cancer.

Abstract: Thermoelectric technology can directly harvest the waste heat into electricity, which is a promising field of green and sustainable energy. In this aspect, flexible thermoelectrics (FTE) such as wearable fabrics, smart biosensing, and biomedical electronics offer a variety of applications. Since the nanofibers are one of the important constructions of FTE, inorganic thermoelectric fibers are focused on here due to their excellent thermoelectric performance and acceptable flexibility. Additionally, measurement and microstructure characterizations for various thermoelectric fibers (Bi-Sb-Te, Ag2Te, PbTe, SnSe and NaCo2O4) made by different fabrication methods, such as electrospinning, two-step anodization process, solution-phase deposition method, focused ion beam, and self-heated 3ω method, are detailed. This review further illustrates that some techniques, such as thermal drawing method, result in high performance of fiber-based thermoelectric properties, which can emerge in wearable devices and smart electronics in the near future. Abstract: International audience; Radiation detectors require scintillator materials combining high light yield, short light decay time and high stability. Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNC) with heavy atoms have demonstrated excellent luminescent efficiency and short emission lifetime, which perfectly match the requirements of X-ray scintillators. However, the poor stability of PNC restricts its applications. Here we report stable CsPbBr3 NCs generated in an all-inorganic glass matrix by controlled crystallization. The transparent composite materials demonstrated good luminescence centered at similar to 520 nm as well as excellent stability towards water and heat (250 degrees C in the air) due to the protection role of inorganic glass. The high refractive index of the inorganic glass matrix enhanced the radiative transition rates. With all these features, the PNC glass-ceramic demonstrated good X-ray response and fast decay. The emission intensity of PNC glass-ceramic was half that of the commercial scintillating material Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) under X-ray irradiation (50 kV) and the decay time (15.2 ns) was one twentieth that of BGO. The excellent performance and the high stability as well as the easily processable nature of glass samples make these composite materials promising candidates for various X-ray detection scenarios such as remote X-ray detection using scintillating glass fibers.

Abstract: G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) have central roles in intercellular communication1,2. Structural studies have revealed how GPCRs can activate G proteins. However, whether this mechanism is conserved among all classes of GPCR remains unknown. Here we report the structure of the class-C heterodimeric GABAB receptor, which is activated by the inhibitory transmitter GABA, in its active form complexed with Gi1 protein. We found that a single G protein interacts with the GB2 subunit of the GABAB receptor at a site that mainly involves intracellular loop 2 on the side of the transmembrane domain. This is in contrast to the G protein binding in a central cavity, as has been observed with other classes of GPCR. This binding mode results from the active form of the transmembrane domain of this GABAB receptor being different from that of other GPCRs, as it shows no outside movement of transmembrane helix 6. Our work also provides details of the inter- and intra-subunit changes that link agonist binding to G-protein activation in this heterodimeric complex. Cryo-electron microscopy structure of heterodimeric GABAB receptor in complex with Gi1 protein reveals that the mode of G-protein binding in this class-C G-protein-coupled receptor differs from that of other classes.

Abstract: International audience; Neurogenesis plays a crucial role during neurodevelopment and its dysfunction can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders. A recent hypothesis stipulates that exogenous factors could corrupt this process and predispose to neurodegenerative disorders later in life. The presence of pesticide residues in the diet represents a threat of which we have recently become aware of. Indeed, they could corrupt neurogenesis, especially during gestation, potentially leading to impaired neuronal and synaptic functions. Since the effects of this low-noise contamination have not yet been evaluated on the neurodevelopment, we investigated the impact of fungicide residues on WT mice exposed throughout gestation. Thus, mice were exposed to fungicides, cyprodinil, mepanipyrim and pyrimethanil, alone at 0.1 μg/L during gestation until P3. Besides, another group was exposed to a cocktail of these three fungicides (0.1 μg/L each) for the same time. Exposure was performed through drinking water at the regulatory limit dose of the European countries (0.1 μg/L). No general toxicity was observed in neonates on body and brain weight upon fungicide exposure. However, results showed that gestational exposure to fungicide residues substantially promoted an increase of neural precursor cells at P3. This corrupted neurogenesis was linked to increased levels of β-catenin, likely through the crosstalk of the PI3K/Akt and Wnt/β-catenin pathways, both involved in cell proliferation. Fungicide exposure also altered protein expression of PSD95 and NMDA receptors in P3 neonates, two targets of the β-catenin signaling pathway. Adult neural stem cell extractions from mice treated with the fungicide cocktail, showed an increase proliferation and differentiation combined with a reduction of their migration properties. In addition, in vitro studies on hippocampal primary cell cultures treated with various concentrations of fungicides showed neurotoxic effects. To conclude, corruption of neurogenesis by this chemical assault could be a fertile ground for the development of neurological diseases later in life.
