In this study, a non-isothermal heating reactor was used to simulate the hydrocarbon generation process of 1â4 cm sized medium- and low-maturity organic-rich shale under the action of supercritical water. The results show that the increase in pressure had a negative effect on the utilization of organic carbon in shale. As the pressure increased, the overall conversion efficiency of organic carbon decreased. Although higher pressure inhibited both oil and gas production, the inhibition of the gas production process was more significant. The effect of reaction time on oil and gas production differed in stages. Over a 4-h reaction period, the oil and gas production rates gradually increased with longer reaction times, with oil production showing a stronger promotion effect. Beyond 4 h, further extension of reaction time mainly promoted gas production. The increase in pressure and reaction time had opposite effects on the pore structure parameters of shale. Higher pressure led to a decrease in these parameters, while longer reaction times resulted in improved and expanded parameters.

Abstract Cultural capital is vital for equitable educational development. This paper studies the effect of family cultural capital on the performance of middle school students with regard to gender, using a multiple linear regression model. Participants from four representative middle schools, totalling 1036 students, were selected during the online learning period. The study found that institutionalised and objectified cultural capital had a pronounced positive effect on students’ school outcomes, but cultural capital that was embodied had both positive and negative effects. Significant differences in the effects of cultural capital on school success were found between male and female students. The educational level of a mother has a significant impact on the school attainment of female students in Chinese, English, math and overall achievement, whereas a father’s education level has a significant effect on male students’ English achievement and overall achievement. The results of the study showed that cultural capital contributed to the academic success of middle school students in different ways. The results presented above contribute to a better comprehension of the mechanisms of the influence of cultural capital on the school performance of middle school students, which has important implications for students’ educational equity. This study recommends improving the mechanism of collaborative education among schools, families and society, by paying attention to vulnerable groups that lack cultural capital, improving the methods of educational evaluation and providing tailor-made education for all types of students.

Supply chain disruptions caused by major public health crises will severely impact the economic growth. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the above proposition, taking the strict lockdown policy and supply chain disruption in Hubei Province at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic as a case, to provide decision-making reference for the government in supply chain management under major public health crisis. To achieve this goal, this paper firstly measures the supply chain network of Hubei province via the multi-region and multi-sector value-added model; then empirically studies the impact of lockdown policy and supply chain disruption on provincial economic growth, with the monthly data of 31 provinces covering January 2018 to December 2022, by the Difference in Difference method. The results show that: the lockdown policy and supply chain disruption under the Covid-19 epidemic negatively affected provincial economic growth; moreover, supply chain disruptions make provinces closer to Hubei more vulnerable to economic shocks. The results are significant in the placebo test, and are further supported in the robustness test of alternative variables and data. We further discussed the Business Cycle Co-movement between Hubei and other provinces, and the probable impact mechanism of supply chain interruption on economic growth in the Covid-19 epidemic. This study shows that supply chain network plays an important role in the transmission of interregional economic shocks, as well as its importance for economic growth, especially in major public health crises.

Manganese dioxide has been significantly utilized in zinc ion batteries (ZIBs). However, in the rechargeable battery system, the manganese dioxide cathode suffers from poor conductivity, volume expansion, and substance dissolution, resulting in low capacity and poor stability. Herein, a 3D frame structure MnO2@CNTs cathode is proposed. In this system, the electrodeposited spherical MnO2 is anchored and interlinked via the in‐situ growth carbon nanotubes (CNTs) onto the carbon cloth. Benefiting the unique 3D frame structure, the MnO2 structure crush problem and the pathway of the electrons and ions are dramatically improved. The optimized MnO2@CNTs cathode demonstrate a high capacity of 256.35 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 and exceptional cycling stability. Furthermore, in‐situ Raman spectroscopy elucidates the energy storage mechanism of aqueous ZIBs (AZIBs). Moreover, COMSOL finite elements analysis demonstrates that the petal edge‐rich nanostructures of MnO2@CNTs generate a localized high electric field under constant current, accelerating ion/electron transfer. This work explains the rationale for CNTs to improve the properties of MnO2 cathodes, providing a new perspective for the design of high‐performance batteries.

BackgroundAugmented reality (AR) technology is gradually being applied in surgical teaching as an innovative teaching method. Developing innovative teaching methods to replicate clinical theory and practical teaching scenarios, simulate preoperative planning and training for bone tumor surgery, and offer enhanced training opportunities for young physicians to acquire and apply clinical knowledge is a crucial concern that impacts the advancement of the discipline and the educational standards for young orthopedic physicians.ObjectiveThis study explores the application effect of augmented reality technology in anatomy teaching and surgical clinical teaching for spinal tumor.MethodsThe method utilizes virtual reality and augmented reality technology to present a spinal tumor model and the surgical process of percutaneous vertebroplasty. We conducted a random selection of 12 students forming into the augmented reality teaching group and 13 students forming into the traditional teaching group among the 8-year medical students from Peking Union Medical College and Tsinghua University, ensuring that the age and learning stage of the students in both groups were similar. Two groups of students were taught using traditional teaching methods and augmented reality technology-assisted teaching methods, respectively. A questionnaire survey was conducted after class to assess the quality of course instruction, student motivation in learning, their proficiency in anatomical structures, their comprehension of spinal tumor growth and metastasis, and their understanding and proficiency in percutaneous vertebroplasty.ResultsThis study was the first to apply augmented reality technology in teaching, using spinal tumors and percutaneous vertebroplasty as examples, a head-mounted augmented reality device was used to create learning scenarios, presenting the complex three-dimensional spatial structure intuitively. The two groups of students differ significantly in their rating of teaching quality, enthusiasm for learning, knowledge of anatomical features, understanding of spinal trabecular structure, and understanding of steps in percutaneous vertebroplasty. The augmented reality technology-assisted teaching system demonstrates outstanding advantages.ConclusionAugmented reality technology has great potential and broad prospects in teaching bone tumors, which can help improve the visualization, interactivity, and three-dimensional spatial sense of medical teaching in spinal tumor. The application and development prospects of using augmented reality technology for anatomy instruction, surgical teaching, and simulation training are extensive.

In the present study, we explored the relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability to construct a cross-level moderated mediation model based on the conservation of resources (COR) theory. By conducting a time-lagged study involving three data collection points from 587 employees across 104 teams in China, we examined how and when proactive personality predicts employees' career adaptability using strengths use as a mediator and managerial coaching as boundary conditions. The results revealed that proactive personality predicted strengths use, which, in turn, influenced career adaptability, with managerial coaching moderating the indirect relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability. Consequently, our findings suggest that, in contexts where managerial coaching lacks guidance, facilitation, and inspiration, a proactive personality encourages employees to leverage their strengths, subsequently enhancing their career adaptability. Finally, we discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our findings, address limitations, and propose directions for future research.

BackgroundPredicting vaccination behaviors accurately could provide insights for health care professionals to develop targeted interventions. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to develop predictive models for influenza vaccination behavior among children in China. MethodsWe obtained data from a prospective observational study in Wuxi, eastern China. The predicted outcome was individual-level vaccine uptake and covariates included sociodemographics of the child and parent, parental vaccine hesitancy, perceptions of convenience to the clinic, satisfaction with clinic services, and willingness to vaccinate. Bayesian networks, logistic regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, support vector machine (SVM), naive Bayes (NB), random forest (RF), and decision tree classifiers were used to construct prediction models. Various performance metrics, including area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), were used to evaluate the predictive performance of the different models. Abstract In order to treat dyes in the wastewater of the printing industry and to reutilize walnut shell (WS) waste generate economic benefits, supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) pretreatment technology was developed to prepare porous biochar as a precursor for adsorption material. Orthogonal experiments were conducted at the temperatures of 200, 300, and 400 ℃ with durations of 20, 40, and 60 min, and a control group was set up using N2 pretreatment. Then, KOH activation was employed to prepare biochar adsorption material. The biochars were analyzed and characterized using TGA, BET, SEM, FT-IR, and XRD, and the liquid and gas phase products of the pretreatment process were analyzed semi-quantitatively and quantitatively using GC–MS and gas chromatography. Methylene blue (MB) dye was selected as an indicator to measure the adsorption capacity of biochar, and adsorption kinetics were analyzed based on the data. The results indicate that pretreatment with SC-CO2 effectively enhanced the performance and yield of the activated carbon. The highest specific surface area increased by 18%, and the maximum adsorption of MB increased by 23% compared to the N2 control group. The yield increased by 8–262% and the specific surface area increased by 50–192% compared to the direct activation of walnut shell (WS). During the pretreatment processes for the preparation of biochar adsorption material with the best specific surface area, phenol-enriched bio-oil was produced as a by-product which has economic value. Wastewater from the thermochemical conversion of coal and biomass contains a significant amount of phenolic structures compounds. The degradation of these phenolic compounds to hydrogen-rich gasses can prevent environmental pollution and save energy. Supercritical water (SCW) gasification of phenol is experimentally studied and a reactive force field molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) simulation is conducted to investigate the catalytic mechanism of Ni/Al2O3 in the phenol degradation. The experimental results indicate that Ni/Al2O3 facilitates the conversion of phenol to 1-ethoxy butane via ring opening, which is a crucial step for complete gasification. The ReaxFF-MD simulation demonstrated that Ni facilitates the formation of H3O free radicals and Ni-phenol intermediates. H3O free radicals can be decomposed into H2 and OH free radicals. Both the generated OH free radical and Ni-phenol intermediate promote the ring-opening reaction of phenol. Ni promotes the direct decomposition of phenol into C1, C2, and C3 fragments, which is beneficial for further complete gasification.

ABSTRACTObjectives Despite their use, differences in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine efficacies remain uncertain. This study assesses efficacy differences among bivalent, quadrivalent, and nine-valent HPV (2vHPV, 4vHPV, and 9vHPV) vaccines.Methods PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing HPV vaccine efficacy against persistent infection (≥6 months) and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+). Network meta-analysis yielded direct and indirect comparisons. Risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were reported, and robustness was evaluated via sensitivity analysis.Results In 11 randomized controlled trials with 58,881 healthy women, for persistent infection with HPV 16, 9vHPV was most effective at 97% (RR = 0.03, 95% CI: 0.01–0.08); for HPV 18, 2vHPV (Cecolin) was most effective at 98% (RR = 0.02, 95% CI: 0.00–0.29); for CIN2+ associated with HPV 16 and 18, 4vHPV was most effective at 99% (RR = 0.01, 95% CI: 0.00–0.10) and 97% (RR = 0.03, 95% CI: 0.00–0.45), respectively; for persistent infection with HPV 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58, 9vHPV was ≥ 95% effective; both 2vHPV vaccines were cross-effective against HPV 31, 33, and 45; and 4vHPV was cross-effective against HPV 31.Conclusions HPV vaccine efficacies differ for different HPV types. Additional data are needed to determine the cross-efficacy of 2vHPV (Cecolin).

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main factors contributing to the greenhouse effect. The dependence on fossil fuels has led to increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere every year. And it is far from enough to solve the climate problem by reducing the consumption of fossil fuels to cut down carbon dioxide emissions. In recent years, a series of researches on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) have been carried out in various countries around the world. CO2 is a nontoxic, tasteless and stable gas at normal temperature. However, when it reaches supercritical state after rising temperature and pressure, it has the characteristics of low viscosity, high diffusivity and high density, and is widely used in green, pollution-free and efficient development technology. Because of these unique properties, supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) has attracted more and more attention from researchers. sCO2 has been widely used in many aspects by virtue of its high solubility and easy compression. Different from previous reviews which only introduced the application of sCO2 property, this paper introduces the current research status of the application of the thermodynamic property of carbon dioxide in extraction, dyeing, pharmaceutical, power generation, heat transfer and exploitation of unconventional oil and gas, and mainly analyzes each application in detail from the aspects of working mechanism and improving working efficiency. Finally, the research direction and problems needed to be solved for the application of CO2 thermal physics are proposed, which pave the way for other new applications.

ObjectiveTo examine the effects of an intervention with fructooligosaccharides (FOS), Saccharomyces boulardii, and their combination in a mouse model of colitis and to explore the mechanisms underlying these effects.MethodsThe effects of FOS, S. boulardii, and their combination were evaluated in a DSS-induced mouse model of colitis. To this end, parameters such as body weight, the disease activity index (DAI), and colon length were examined in model mice. Subsequently, ELISA was employed to detect the serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines. Histopathological analysis was performed to estimate the progression of inflammation in the colon. Gas chromatography was used to determine the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the feces of model mice. Finally, 16S rRNA sequencing technology was used to analyze the gut microbiota composition.ResultsFOS was slight effective in treating colitis and colitis-induced intestinal dysbiosis in mice. Meanwhile, S. boulardii could significantly reduced the DAI, inhibited the production of IL-1β, and prevented colon shortening. Nevertheless, S. boulardii treatment alone failed to effectively regulate the gut microbiota. In contrast, the combined administration of FOS/S. boulardii resulted in better anti-inflammatory effects and enabled microbiota regulation. The FOS/S. boulardii combination (109 CFU/ml and 107 CFU/ml) significantly reduced the DAI, inhibited colitis, lowered IL-1β and TNF-α production, and significantly improved the levels of butyric acid and isobutyric acid. However, FOS/S. boulardii 109 CFU/ml exerted stronger anti-inflammatory effects, inhibited IL-6 production and attenuated colon shortening. Meanwhile, FOS/S. boulardii 107 CFU/ml improved microbial regulation and alleviated the colitis-induced decrease in microbial diversity. The combination of FOS and S. boulardii significantly increased the abundance of Parabacteroides and decreased the abundance of Escherichia–Shigella. Additionally, it promoted the production of acetic acid and propionic acid.ConclusionCompared with single administration, the combination can significantly increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria and effectively regulate the gut microbiota composition. These results provide a scientific rationale for the prevention and treatment of colitis using a FOS/S. boulardii combination. They also offer a theoretical basis for the development of nutraceutical preparations containing FOS and S. boulardii.

BackgroundsAs a conserved signaling pathway, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade regulates cellular signaling in response to abiotic stress. High temperature may contribute to a significant decrease in economic yield. However, research into the expression patterns of StMAPKK family genes under high temperature is limited and lacks experimental validation regarding their role in supporting potato plant growth.MethodsTo trigger heat stress responses, potato plants were grown at 35°C. qRT-PCR was conducted to analyze the expression pattern of StMAPKK family genes in potato plants. Plant with StMAPKK5 loss-of-function and gain-of-function were developed. Potato growth and morphological features were assessed through measures of plant height, dry weight, and fresh weight. The antioxidant ability of StMAPKK5 was indicated by antioxidant enzyme activity and H2O2 content. Cell membrane integrity and permeability were suggested by relative electrical conductivity (REC), and contents of MDA and proline. Photosynthetic capacity was next determined. Further, mRNA expression of heat stress-responsive genes and antioxidant enzyme genes was examined.ResultsIn reaction to heat stress, the expression profiles of StMAPKK family genes were changed. The StMAPKK5 protein is located to the nucleus, cytoplasm and cytomembrane, playing a role in controlling the height and weight of potato plants under heat stress conditions. StMAPKK5 over-expression promoted photosynthesis and maintained cell membrane integrity, while inhibited transpiration and stomatal conductance under heat stress. Overexpression of StMAPKK5 triggered biochemical defenses in potato plant against heat stress, modulating the levels of H2O2, MDA and proline, as well as the antioxidant activities of CAT, SOD and POD. Overexpression of StMAPKK5 elicited genetic responses in potato plants to heat stress, affecting heat stress-responsive genes and genes encoding antioxidant enzymes.ConclusionStMAPKK5 can improve the resilience of potato plants to heat stress-induced damage, offering a promising approach for engineering potatoes with enhanced adaptability to challenging heat stress conditions.

This study was to investigate the potential mechanisms of treatment with metformin (Met) combined with kaempferol (Kae) against postmenopausal osteoporosis. Experiments were conducted in both ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis rats and in vitro using RAW264.7 cells, MC3T3-E1 cells, and HUVECs. Results demonstrated the therapeutic effect of Met combined with Kae on osteoporosis. In vivo, Kae alone and in combination with Met treatments enhanced tibial trabecular microstructure, bone mineral density (BMD), and mechanical properties in OVX rats without causing hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. It also reduced bone resorption markers (CTX-1 and TRAP) and increased the bone formation marker (PINP) level in the serum of OVX rats. The expression of bone resorption marker TRAP was reduced, while bone formation markers Runx2 and ALP were enhanced in the bone tissue of OVX rats. Furthermore, Met combined with Kae also promoted the expression of angiogenesis-related markers CD31 and VEGF in OVX rats. In vitro, MC3T3-E1s cells treated with Met combined with Kae showed higher expression of ALP, Runx2, and VEGF. Interestingly, the treatment did not directly promote HUVECs migration and angiogenesis, but enhanced osteoblast-mediated angiogenesis by upregulating VEGF levels. Additionally, Met combined with Kae treatment promoted VEGF secretion in MC3T3-E1, and activated the Notch intracelluar pathway by upregulating HES1 and HEY1 in HUVECs. Meantime, their stimulation on CD31 expression were inhibited by DAPT, a Notch signaling inhibitor. Overall, this study demonstrates the positive effects of Met combined with Kae on osteoporotic rats by promoting osteogenesis-angiogenesis coupling, suggesting their potential application in postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal X-linked recessive disorder, which is caused mostly by frame-disrupting, out-of-frame variation in the dystrophin (DMD) gene. Loss-of- function mutations are the most common type of mutation in DMD, accounting for approximately 60–90% of all DMD variations. In this study, we used adenine base editing to generate a human embryonic stem cell line with splice-site mutations to mimic exon deletion variants in clinical Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients. This cell line has differentiation potential and a normal karyotypic.

Abstract Peripheral T‐cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a highly heterogeneous group of mature T‐cell malignancies. The efficacy of current first‐line treatment is dismal, and novel agents are urgently needed to improve patient outcomes. A close association between the cyclic GMP‐AMP synthase‐stimulator of interferon genes (cGAS‐STING) pathway and tumor promotion exists, revealing prospective therapeutic targets. This study, investigates the role of the cGAS‐STING pathway and its underlying mechanisms in PTCL progression. Single‐cell RNA sequencing showes that the cGAS‐STING pathway is highly expressed and closely associated with PTCL proliferation. cGAS inhibition suppresses tumor growth and impaires DNA damage repair. Moreover, Cdc2‐like kinase 1 (CLK1) is critical for residual tumor cell survival after treatment with cGAS inhibitors, and CLK1 suppression enhances sensitivity to cGAS inhibitors. Single‐cell dynamic transcriptomic analysis indicates reduced proliferation‐associated nascent RNAs as the underlying mechanism. In first‐line therapy, chemotherapy‐triggered DNA damage activates the cGAS‐STING pathway, and cGAS inhibitors can synergize with chemotherapeutic agents to kill tumors. The cGAS‐STING pathway is oncogenic in PTCL, whereas targeting cGAS suppresses tumor growth, and CLK1 may be a sensitivity indicator for cGAS inhibitors. These findings provide a theoretical foundation for optimizing therapeutic strategies for PTCL, especially in patients with relapsed/refractory disease.

An external-cavity wavelength-swept laser, characterized by its exceptional temporal coherence and extensive tuning range, serves as a crucial light source for cutting-edge fields such as fiber sensing, lidar, and spectroscopy. The burgeoning growth of optical communication technology has escalated the demand for lasers with narrow linewidth and broad tuning range, thereby catalyzing the swift advancement of external-cavity wavelength-swept diode lasers and their diverse applications. This article comprehensively presents the configurations and operating principles of these lasers, and provides an in-depth review of their development status, specifically focusing on those with narrow linewidth and wide tuning range. The aim is to offer a valuable reference for researchers involved in the development and application of wavelength-swept lasers.

Abstract Background China has a high burden of influenza-associated illness among children. We aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of introducing government-funded influenza vaccination to children in China (fully-funded policy) compared with the status quo (self-paid policy). Methods A decision tree model was developed to calculate the economic and health outcomes, from a societal perspective, using national- and provincial-level data. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) [incremental costs per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained] was used to compare the fully-funded policy with the self-paid policy under the willingness-to-pay threshold equivalent to national and provincial GDP per capita. Sensitivity analyses were performed and various scenarios were explored based on real-world conditions, including incorporating indirect effect into the analysis. Results Compared to the self-paid policy, implementation of a fully-funded policy could prevent 1,444,768 [95% uncertainty range (UR): 1,203,446–1,719,761] symptomatic cases, 92,110 (95% UR: 66,953–122,226) influenza-related hospitalizations, and 6494 (95% UR: 4590–8962) influenza-related death per season. The fully-funded policy was cost-effective nationally (7964 USD per QALY gained) and provincially for 13 of 31 provincial-level administrative divisions (PLADs). The probability of a funded vaccination policy being cost-effective was 56.5% nationally, and the probability in 9 of 31 PLADs was above 75%. The result was most sensitive to the symptomatic influenza rate among children under 5 years [ICER ranging from − 25,612 (cost-saving) to 14,532 USD per QALY gained]. The ICER of the fully-funded policy was substantially lower (becoming cost-saving) if the indirect effects of vaccination were considered. Conclusions Introducing a government-funded influenza policy for children is cost-effective in China nationally and in many PLADs. PLADs with high symptomatic influenza rate and influenza-associated mortality would benefit the most from a government-funded influenza vaccination program.

Abstract One of the core goals of Digital Health Technologies (DHT) is to transform healthcare services and delivery by shifting primary care from hospitals into the community. However, achieving this goal will rely on the collection, use and storage of large datasets. Some of these datasets will be linked to multiple sources, and may include highly sensitive health information that needs to be transferred across institutional and jurisdictional boundaries. The growth of DHT has outpaced the establishment of clear legal pathways to facilitate the collection, use and transfer of potentially sensitive health data. Our study aimed to address this gap with an ethical code to guide researchers developing DHT with international collaborative partners in Singapore. We generated this code using a modified Policy Delphi process designed to engage stakeholders in the deliberation of health data ethics and governance. This paper reports the outcomes of this process along with the key components of the code and identifies areas for future research.

With the rapid development of e-commerce, express delivery has been chosen and accepted by consumers, and a large number of express packages have resulted in serious waste of resources and environmental pollution. Because of the irregularity of online goods purchases by users in real life, logistics parks are unable to accurately judge the recycling needs of various regions. In order to solve this problem, we propose an improved empirical mode decomposition (IEMD) algorithm combined with a long-short-term memory (LSTM) network to deal with the addresses and categories in logistics data, analyze the distribution of recyclable logistics waste in the logistics park service area and in the express recycling station within the logistics park, judge the value of recyclable logistics waste, optimize the best path for recycling vehicles and improve the success rate of logistics waste recycling. In order to better research and verify the IEMD-LSTM prediction model, we model and simulate the algorithm behavior of the express waste packaging recycling prediction model system, and compare it with other classification methods through specific logistics data experiments. The prediction accuracy, stability and advantages of the four algorithms are analyzed and compared, and the application reliability of the algorithm proposed in this paper to the logistics waste recycling process is verified. The application in the actual express logistics packaging recycling case shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the waste recycling scheme proposed in this paper.

AIM: To describe the clinical and radiologic features of retrolaminar migration silicone oil (SiO) and observe the dynamic position of ventricular oil accumulation in supine and prone. METHODS: For this retrospective study, 29 patients who had a history of SiO injection treatment and underwent unenhanced head computed tomography (CT) were included from January 2019 to October 2022. The patients were divided into migration-positive and negative groups. Clinical history and CT features were compared using Whitney U and Fisher's exact tests. The dynamic position of SiO was observed within the ventricular system in supine and prone. CT images were visually assessed for SiO migration along the retrolaminar involving pathways for vision (optic nerve, chiasm, and tract) and ventricular system. RESULTS: Intraocular SiO migration was found in 5 of the 29 patients (17.24%), with SiO at the optic nerve head (n=1), optic nerve (n=4), optic chiasm (n=1), optic tract (n=1), and within lateral ventricles (n=1). Microplastics (MPs) are increasingly becoming recognized as worldwide environmental contaminants, exerting a substantial impact on the safety of city rivers. This study explored the temporal variance in MPs in different rainfall seasons, including spring, plum, and autumn rains. The Qinhuai River has large spatial fluctuations in MPs at six sampling sites, with an average concentration of 466.62 ± 153.69 items/L, and higher MP abundance was found downstream of spring rain and upstream of autumn rain. Among the different rainfall seasons, the variations in microplastics at various sampling sites were more stable in the plum rain season, with an average concentration of 473.67 ± 105.17 items/L, while the concentrations of TP and TN in the plum rain season were higher than those in other rain seasons. Transparent MPs had the highest abundance at many sampling sites in all seasons, and large-sized MPs (270–5000 μm) occurred more in the autumn rain season. PVC was more prevalent in autumn, but PET decreased in the plum rain season. Interestingly, more fibers, PET, and large-sized MPs were found in the autumn rain. The index of hazard scores of plastic polymers (H) revealed that the studied river was at a severe pollution level (IV), which was highly influenced by PVC and PC. In addition, the pollution load index (PLI) value in different rain seasons indicated slight pollution (I). At the same time, it was higher in autumn rains than in other seasons due to the higher variance in MPs. Therefore, the ecological risk of microplastics in the Qinhuai River should be seriously considered, along with seasonal variance and the PVC and PC polymers. Our research is expected to provide valuable assistance in improving the management of urban rivers.

The health assessment of airborne lithium batteries is crucial for flight testing, ensuring the safety and reliability of aircraft power systems. This paper proposes a support vector machine-based algorithm for the health assessment of airborne lithium batteries, featuring a dynamic correction mechanism for the risk loss penalty parameter. The proposed approach systematically adjusts risk loss penalty parameters based on sample misjudgment ratios and incorporates fault identification corrections to meet the safety requirements of the airborne operation. The experimental results demonstrate the stability and reliability of the proposed algorithm in hyperplane deviation suppression as well as significant improvements in fault sample recall rates. When compared with traditional SVM and other baseline methods such as Random Forest and SVR, our method significantly outperformed these algorithms in terms of accuracy, recall rate, and precision rate. This study provides an efficient and reliable method for the health assessment of airborne lithium batteries, with significant application value.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a critical condition characterized by a high prevalence, substantial mortality rates, and unpredictable clinical outcomes, which results in a serious threat to human health. Improving the timeliness and accuracy of prognosis assessment is crucial to minimizing mortality and long-term disability associated with ICH. Due to the complexity of ICH, the diagnosis of ICH in clinical practice heavily relies on the professional expertise and clinical experience of physicians. Traditional prognostic methods largely depend on the specialized knowledge and subjective judgment of healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, existing artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies, which predominantly utilize features derived from computed tomography (CT) scans, fall short of capturing the multifaceted nature of ICH. Although existing methods are capable of integrating clinical information and CT images for prognosis, the effectiveness of this fusion process still requires improvement. To surmount these limitations, the present study introduces a novel AI framework, termed the ICH Network (ICH-Net), which employs a joint-attention cross-modal network to synergize clinical textual data with CT imaging features. The architecture of ICH-Net consists of three integral components: the Feature Extraction Module, which processes and abstracts salient characteristics from the clinical and imaging data, the Feature Fusion Module, which amalgamates the diverse data streams, and the Classification Module, which interprets the fused features to deliver prognostic predictions. Our evaluation, conducted through a rigorous five-fold cross-validation process, demonstrates that ICH-Net achieves a commendable accuracy of up to 87.77%, outperforming other state-of-the-art methods detailed within our research. This evidence underscores the potential of ICH-Net as a formidable tool in prognosticating ICH, promising a significant advancement in clinical decision-making and patient care.

Acute liver failure is an infrequent yet fatal condition marked by rapid liver function decline, leading to abnormalities in blood clotting and cognitive impairment among individuals without prior liver ailments. The primary reasons for liver failure are infection with hepatitis virus or overdose of certain medicines, such as acetaminophen. Phaeodactylum tricornutum (PT), a type of microalgae known as a diatom species, has been reported to contain an active ingredient with anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects. In this study, we evaluated the preventive and therapeutic activities of PT extract in acute liver failure. To achieve our purpose, we used two different acute liver failure models: acetaminophen- and D-GalN/LPS-induced acute liver failure. PT extract showed protective activity against acetaminophen-induced acute liver failure through attenuation of the inflammatory response. However, we failed to demonstrate the protective effects of PT against acute liver injury in the D-GalN/LPS model. Although the PT extract did not show protective activity against two different acute liver failure animal models, this study clearly demonstrates the importance of considering the differences among animal models when selecting an acute liver failure model for evaluation.

The present research investigated the voltage polarity asymmetry phenomenon based on dielectric wetting. In an ITO–hydrophobic layer–droplet setup, three reagents with different pH values (3.96, 7.0, and 10.18), two types of hydrophobic materials (AF1601 and 6%T6), and two different thicknesses (340 nm and 2.5 μm) of each material were systematically investigated. The results show that the thickness of the hydrophobic dielectric layer and the pH of the droplets had a significant impact on the droplet contact angle variation with the voltage. The contact angle on the thick hydrophobic dielectric layer followed the Lippmann–Young equation as the voltage changed. The angle of the thin hydrophobic dielectric layer was affected by its own properties and the type of droplet, which led to the occurrence of voltage polarity asymmetry of the electrowetting phenomenon. After further investigation of this phenomenon, it was found that it mainly accounted for the decrease in electric field strength at both ends of the droplet, which was caused by electrochemical reactions and changes in circuit resistance. The leakage current is an important indicator, and this phenomenon can be prevented by increasing the thickness of the hydrophobic dielectric layer.

ObjectiveTo develop and validate a hybrid model incorporating CT-fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR), pericoronary fat attenuation index (pFAI), and radiomics signatures for predicting progression of white matter hyperintensity (WMH).MethodsA total of 226 patients who received coronary computer tomography angiography (CCTA) and brain magnetic resonance imaging from two hospitals were divided into a training set (n = 116), an internal validation set (n = 30), and an external validation set (n = 80). Patients who experienced progression of WMH were identified from subsequent MRI results. We calculated CT-FFR and pFAI from CCTA images using semi-automated software, and segmented the pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) and myocardial ROI. A total of 1,073 features were extracted from each ROI, and were then refined by Elastic Net Regression. Firstly, different machine learning algorithms (Logistic Regression [LR], Support Vector Machine [SVM], Random Forest [RF], k-nearest neighbor [KNN] and eXtreme Gradient Gradient Boosting Machine [XGBoost]) were used to evaluate the effectiveness of radiomics signatures for predicting WMH progression. Then, the optimal machine learning algorithm was used to compare the predictive performance of individual and hybrid models based on independent risk factors of WMH progression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, calibration and decision curve analysis were used to evaluate predictive performance and clinical value of the different models.ResultsCT-FFR, pFAI, and radiomics signatures were independent predictors of WMH progression. Based on the machine learning algorithms, the PCAT signatures led to slightly better predictions than the myocardial signatures and showed the highest AUC value in the XGBoost algorithm for predicting WMH progression (AUC: 0.731 [95% CI: 0.603–0.838] vs.0.711 [95% CI: 0.584–0.822]). In addition, pFAI provided better predictions than CT-FFR (AUC: 0.762 [95% CI: 0.651–0.863] vs. 0.682 [95% CI: 0.547–0.799]). A hybrid model that combined CT-FFR, pFAI, and two radiomics signatures provided the best predictions of WMH progression [AUC: 0.893 (95%CI: 0.815–0.956)].ConclusionpFAI was more effective than CT-FFR, and PCAT signatures were more effective than myocardial signatures in predicting WMH progression. A hybrid model that combines pFAI, CT-FFR, and two radiomics signatures has potential use for identifying WMH progression.

Motivating the innovative behavior of knowledge workers with the “maker spirit” is important for enhancing innovation efficiency. Based on the unique “maker spirit” embodied in knowledge workers in Chinese, this study comprehensively considers elements of job crafting and superiors’ developmental feedback, and uses questionnaire survey method and mathematical statistical analysis method to explore the relationship between the maker spirit and the innovative behavior of knowledge workers in order to provide theoretical support for further promoting the development of social innovation. The results of the study show that the spirit of innovation, sharing, practice, and entrepreneurship in the maker spirit all have a positive contribution to innovative behavior; job crafting mediates between the spirit of innovation, sharing, practice, entrepreneurship, and innovative behavior; and superiors’ developmental feedback plays a positive moderating role between the spirit of innovation, sharing, practice, entrepreneurship, and job crafting.

Abstract Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a hematological malignancy with high metabolic heterogeneity. N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification plays an important role in metabolism through regulating circular RNAs (circRNAs). However, the underlying mechanism is not yet fully understood in CLL. Herein, an m6A scoring system and an m6A‐related circRNA prognostic signature are established, and circTET2 as a potential prognostic biomarker for CLL is identified. The level of m6A modification is found to affect the transport of circTET2 out of the nucleus. By interacting with the RNA‐binding protein (RBP) heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (HNRNPC), circTET2 regulates the stability of CPT1A and participates in the lipid metabolism and proliferation of CLL cells through mTORC1 signaling pathway. The mTOR inhibitor dactolisib and FAO inhibitor perhexiline exert a synergistic effect on CLL cells. In addition, the biogenesis of circTET2 can be affected by the splicing process and the RBPs RBMX and YTHDC1. CP028, a splicing inhibitor, modulates the expression of circTET2 and shows pronounced inhibitory effects. In summary, circTET2 plays an important role in the modulation of lipid metabolism and cell proliferation in CLL. This study demonstrates the clinical value of circTET2 as a prognostic indicator as well as provides novel insights in targeting treatment for CLL.

Skin diseases are global health issues caused by multiple pathogenic factors, in which epigenetics plays an invaluable role. Post-transcriptional RNA modifications are important epigenetic mechanism that regulate gene expression at the genome-wide level. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent modification that occurs in the messenger RNAs (mRNA) of most eukaryotes, which is installed by methyltransferases called “writers”, removed by demethylases called “erasers”, and recognised by RNA-binding proteins called “readers”. To date, m6A is emerging to play essential part in both physiological processes and pathological progression, including skin diseases. However, a systematic summary of m6A in skin disease has not yet been reported. This review starts by illustrating each m6A-related modifier specifically and their roles in RNA processing, and then focus on the existing research advances of m6A in immune homeostasis and skin diseases.

ABSTRACTHaemophilus parasuis (H. parasuis) causes exudative inflammation, implying endothelial dysfunction during pathogen infection. However, so far, the molecular mechanism of endothelial dysfunction caused by H. parasuis has not been clarified. By using the transwell-based cell co-culture system, we demonstrate that knocking out resistin in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) dramatically attenuated endothelial monolayer damage caused by H. parasuis. The resistin secreted by PAMs inhibited the expression of the tight junction proteins claudin-5 and occludin rather than the adherens junction protein VE-cadherin in co-cultured porcine aortic endothelial cells (PAECs). Furthermore, we demonstrate that resistin regulated claudin-5 and occludin expression and monolayer PAEC permeability in an LKB1/AMPK/mTOR pathway-dependent manner. Additionally, we reveal that the outer membrane lipoprotein gene lppA in H. parasuis induced resistin expression in PAMs, as deleting lppA reduced resistin expression in H. parasuis-infected PAMs, causing a significant change in LKB1/AMPK/mTOR pathway activity in co-cultured PAECs, thereby restoring tight junction protein levels and endothelial monolayer permeability. Thus, we postulate that the H. parasuis lppA gene enhances resistin production in PAMs, disrupting tight junctions in PAECs and causing endothelial barrier dysfunction. These findings elucidate the pathogenic mechanism of exudative inflammation caused by H. parasuis for the first time and provide a more profound angle of acute exudative inflammation caused by bacteria.

ABSTRACTHow much the vaccine contributes to the induction and development of neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) of breakthrough cases relative to those unvaccinated-infected cases is not fully understood. We conducted a prospective cohort study and collected serum samples from 576 individuals who were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 Delta strain infection, including 245 breakthrough cases and 331 unvaccinated-infected cases. NAbs were analysed by live virus microneutralization test and transformation of NAb titre. NAbs titres against SARS-CoV-2 ancestral and Delta variant in breakthrough cases were 7.8-fold and 4.0-fold higher than in unvaccinated-infected cases, respectively. NAbs titres in breakthrough cases peaked at the second week after onset/infection. However, the NAbs titres in the unvaccinated-infected cases reached their highest levels during the third week. Compared to those with higher levels of NAbs, those with lower levels of NAbs had no difference in viral clearance duration time (P>0.05), did exhibit higher viral load at the beginning of infection/maximum viral load of infection. Abstract Background Cardiovascular diseases have been considered the primary cause of disability and death worldwide. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) is an important indicator of the severity of coronary atherosclerosis. This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between CAC and white matter hyperintensity (WMH) in the context of diagnostic utility. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 342 patients with a diagnosis of WMH on magnetic resonance images (MRI) who also underwent chest computed tomography (CT) scans. WMH volumes were automatically measured using a lesion prediction algorithm. Subjects were divided into four groups based on the CAC score obtained from chest CT scans. A multilevel mixed-effects linear regression model considering conventional vascular risk factors assessed the association between total WMH volume and CAC score. Results Overall, participants with coronary artery calcium (CAC score > 0) had larger WMH volumes than those without calcium (CAC score = 0), and WMH volumes were statistically different between the four CAC score groups, with increasing CAC scores, the volume of WMH significantly increased. In the linear regression model 1 of the high CAC score group, for every 1% increase in CAC score, the WMH volume increases by 2.96%. After including other covariates in model 2 and model 3, the β coefficient in the high CAC group remains higher than in the low and medium CAC score groups. Conclusion In elderly adults, the presence and severity of CAC is related to an increase in WMH volume. Our findings suggest an association between two different vascular bed diseases in addition to traditional vascular risk factors, possibly indicating a comorbid mechanism.

Abstract Background Robust routine immunization schedules for pertussis-containing vaccines have been applied for years, but pertussis outbreaks remain a worldwide problem. This study aimed to investigate the association between vaccine hesitancy and pertussis in infants and children. Methods We searched PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, Embase, and China National Knowledge Internet for studies published between January 2012 and June 2022. This study included case–control and cohort studies that assessed the association between childhood/maternal vaccine hesitancy and odds ratios (ORs), risk ratios (RRs), and vaccine effectiveness (VE) related to pertussis in infants and children $$\le$$ ≤ 9 years old. ORs/VEs with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Random-effects meta-analysis models were used for appropriate pooled estimates, and heterogeneity was assessed using $${I}^{2}$$ I 2 . Cumulative meta-analysis and subgroup analyses stratified by study characteristics were performed. Results Twenty-two studies were included, with a mean quality score of 7.0 (range 6.0–9.0). Infants and children with pertussis were associated with higher vaccine hesitancy to all doses (OR = 4.12 [95% CI: 3.09–5.50]). The highest OR was between children who were unvaccinated over four doses and children who were fully vaccinated (OR = 14.26 [95%CI: 7.62–26.70]); childhood vaccine delay was not statistically significantly associated with pertussis risk (OR = 1.18 [95% CI: 0.74–1.89]). Maternal vaccine hesitancy was associated with significantly higher pertussis risk in infants aged 2 and 3 months old, with higher pertussis ORs in infants $$\le$$ ≤ 2 months old (OR = 6.02 [95%CI: 4.31–8.50], OR = 5.14 [95%CI: 1.95–13.52] for infants $$\le$$ ≤ 2 and $$\le$$ ≤ 3 months old, respectively). Maternal and childhood VEs were high in reducing pertussis infection in infants and children. The administration time of maternal vaccination had little effect on VE. Conclusion Vaccine hesitancy increased pertussis risks in infants and children. Ensuring that children receive up-to-date pertussis vaccines is essential; short delays in receiving childhood vaccinations may be unimportant. Maternal vaccinations for pertussis should be encouraged.

Abstract Background Long working hours and effort-reward imbalance (ERI) among medical workers may contribute to poor mental health and reduced productivity. However, the potential mechanisms among them are not well understood. This study aimed to explore the role of depressive symptoms and ERI in the relationship between long working hours and presenteeism among village doctors. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study in Jiangsu Province, eastern China. 705 village doctors were assessed for working hours, ERI (the Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire, ERI questionnaire), presenteeism (6-item Stanford Presenteeism Scale, SPS-6 Scale), and depressive symptoms (12-item General Health Questionnaire, GHQ-12). A moderated mediation model was used to test the role of depressive symptoms (M), and ERI (W) in the relationship between long working hours (X) and presenteeism (Y). Results 45.11% of the village doctors worked more than 55 h per week, and 55.89% were exposed to ERI. The prevalence of depressive symptoms among Chinese village doctors was 40.85%. Long working hours (≥ 55 h per week) were significantly associated with presenteeism behaviors (β = 2.17, P 3) could partly mediate the relationship between long working hours and presenteeism (indirect effect β = 0.64, P

Background/Aims Tegoprazan, a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker, has shown rapid action and gastric acid inhibition. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of a tegoprazan-based, nonbismuth-containing quadruple (concomitant) therapy for the primary eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Methods We conducted a prospective, single-arm, single-center, primitive study to verify the efficacy of a 10-day tegoprazan-based (50-mg dose) concomitant therapy, including amoxicillin (1,000-mg dose), clarithromycin (CLA; 500-mg dose), and metronidazole (MET; 500-mg dose) twice daily as a first-line treatment for H. pylori eradication. Results We tested consecutive cultures for antibiotic susceptibility and minimum inhibitory concentrations. We enrolled 84 participants; 79 (94.0%) completed first-line therapy. The overall intention-to-treat and per-protocol eradication rates were 90.5% (95% confidence interval [CI], 82.1–95.8) and 96.2% (95% CI, 83.4–97.6), respectively. Of the 73 participants evaluated for antibiotic resistance, 19 (26.0%), 32 (42.5%), and 8 (11.0%) exhibited CLA, MET, and CLA and MET dual resistance, respectively. Of these, 39 participants (66.1%) exhibited successful eradication after the therapeutic regimen despite antibiotic resistance. Conclusions The 10-day tegoprazan-based concomitant therapy may be an effective first-line treatment for eradicating H. pylori.

Based on outcrop, seismic and drilling data, the main regional unconformities in the Sichuan Basin and their controls on hydrocarbon accumulation were systematically studied. Three findings are obtained. First, six regional stratigraphic unconformities are mainly developed in the Sichuan Basin, from the bottom up, which are between pre-Sinian and Sinian, between Sinian and Cambrian, between pre-Permian and Permian, between middle and upper Permian, between middle and upper Triassic, and between Triassic and Jurassic. Especially, 16 of 21 conventional (and tight) gas fields discovered are believed to have formed in relation to regional unconformities. Second, regional unconformity mainly controls hydrocarbon accumulation from five aspects: (1) The porosity and permeability of reservoirs under the unconformity are improved through weathering crust karstification to form large-scale karst reservoirs; (2) Good source-reservoir-caprock assemblage can form near the unconformity, which provides a basis for forming large gas field; (3) Regional unconformity may lead to stratigraphic pinch-out and rugged ancient landform, giving rise to a large area of stratigraphic and lithologic trap groups; (4) Regional unconformity provides a dominant channel for lateral migration of oil and gas; and (5) Regional unconformity is conducive to large-scale accumulation of oil and gas. Third, the areas related to regional unconformities are the exploration focus of large gas fields in the Sichuan Basin. The pre-Sinian is found with source rocks, reservoir rocks and other favorable conditions for the formation of large gas fields, and presents a large exploration potential. Thus, it is expected to be an important strategic replacement.

Abstract Exposure to extreme temperatures or fine particles is associated with adverse health outcomes but their interactive effects remain unclear. We aimed to explore the interactions of extreme temperatures and PM2.5 pollution on mortalities. Based on the daily mortality data collected during 2015–2019 in Jiangsu Province, China, we conducted generalized linear models with distributed lag non-linear model to estimate the regional-level effects of cold/hot extremes and PM2.5 pollution. Submerged macrophytes in eutrophic aquatic environments adapt to changes in ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) levels by modifying their levels of free amino acids (FAAs) and soluble carbohydrates (SCs). As symbionts of submerged macrophytes, epiphytic bacteria have obvious host specificity. In the present study, the interspecific differences in the FAA and SC contents of Hydrilla verticillata (Linn. f.) Roylep, Vallisneria natans Hara and Chara braunii Gmelin and their leaf epiphytic bacterial communities were assessed in response to increased NH4-N concentrations. The results revealed that the response of the three submerged macrophytes to NH4-N stress involved the consumption of SCs and the production of FAAs. The NH4-N concentration had a greater impact on the variation in the FAA content, whereas the variation in the SC content was primarily influenced by the species. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Nitrospirota on the leaves exhibited specific differences, with the order H. verticillata > V. natans > C. braunii. The dominant genera of epiphytic bacteria with denitrification effects on V. natans, H. verticillata and C. braunii leaves were Halomonas, Acinetobacter and Bacillus, respectively. When faced with NH4-N stress, the variation in epiphytic bacterial populations associated with ammonia oxidation and denitrification among submerged macrophytes could contribute to their divergent responses to heightened nitrogen levels.

(1) Background: Oxygen has exerted a great effect in shaping the environment and driving biological diversity in Earth’s history. Green lineage has evolved primary and secondary carotenoid biosynthetic systems to adapt to Earth’s oxygenation, e.g., Haematococcus lacustris, which accumulates the highest amount of secondary astaxanthin under stresses. The two systems are controlled by lycopene ε-cyclase (LCYE) and β-cyclase (LCYB), which leave an important trace in Earth’s oxygenation. (2) Objectives: This work intends to disclose the underlying molecular evolutionary mechanism of Earth’s oxygenation in shaping green algal carotenogensis with a special focus on lycopene cyclases. (3) Methods: The two kinds of cyclases were analyzed by site-directed mutagenesis, phylogeny, divergence time and functional divergence. (4) Results: Green lineage LCYEs appeared at ~1.5 Ga after the first significant appearance and accumulation of atmospheric oxygen, the so-called Great Oxygenation Event (GOE), from which LCYBs diverged by gene duplication. Bacterial β-bicyclases evolved from β-monocyclase. Enhanced catalytic activity accompanied evolutionary transformation from ε-/β-monocyclase to β-bicyclase. Strong positive selection occurred in green lineage LCYEs after the GOE and in algal LCYBs during the second oxidation, the Neoproterozoic Oxygenation Event (NOE). Positively selected sites in the catalytic cavities of the enzymes controlled the mono-/bicyclase activity, respectively. Carotenoid profiling revealed that oxidative adaptation has been wildly preserved in evolution. (5) Conclusions: the functionalization of the two enzymes is a result of primary to secondary adaptations to Earth’s oxygenation.

Tibetan pig is a geographically isolated pig breed that inhabits high-altitude areas of the Qinghai–Tibetan plateau. At present, there is limited research on viral diseases in Tibetan pigs. This study provides a novel metagenomic exploration of the gut virome in Tibetan pigs (altitude ≈ 3000 m) across three critical developmental stages, including lactation, nursery, and fattening. The composition of viral communities in the Tibetan pig intestine, with a dominant presence of Microviridae phages observed across all stages of development, in combination with the previous literature, suggest that it may be associated with geographical locations with high altitude. Functional annotation of viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) highlights that, among the constantly increasing vOTUs groups, the adaptability of viruses to environmental stressors such as salt and heat indicates an evolutionary response to high-altitude conditions. It shows that the lactation group has more abundant viral auxiliary metabolic genes (vAMGs) than the nursery and fattening groups. During the nursery and fattening stages, this leaves only DNMT1 at a high level. which may be a contributing factor in promoting gut health. The study found that viruses preferentially adopt lytic lifestyles at all three developmental stages. These findings not only elucidate the dynamic interplay between the gut virome and host development, offering novel insights into the virome ecology of Tibetan pigs and their adaptation to high-altitude environments, but also provide a theoretical basis for further studies on pig production and epidemic prevention under extreme environmental conditions.

Inorganic components in coal play a significant role during the supercritical water gasification (SCWG) process. This study comprehensively investigated the effect of major mineral components (SiO2, Al2O3, and CaO) on the SCWG of semi-coke with/without K2CO3. The inhibition/promotion mechanism and conversion of mineral chemical components were explored. The results showed that, without K2CO3, CaO promoted gasification because CaO’s adsorption of CO2 contributed to the fixed carbon steam reforming reaction and the catalysis of highly dispersed calcite. When K2CO3 was added, SiO2 and CaO were prone to sintering and agglomeration due to the formation of low-melting-point minerals, which hindered further gasification of fine carbon particles. Al2O3 prevented the aggregation of slags, increased the probability of fine carbon particles contacting SCW and K2CO3, and promoted complete gasification. This study’s results may provide theoretical guidance for the directional control of minerals in coal during SCWG, and complete gasification of solid-phase carbon can be achieved by properly adjusting the mineral components.

Abstract Beyond photothermal conversion, the surface wettability of light-absorbing materials should be also determinative to the efficiency of solar-driven interfacial steam generation (SISG). Herein, by modifying hydrophobic Cu nanoparticles (NPs) with a hydrophilic carbon (C) shell, hydrophilic Cu@C core–shell NPs were successfully fabricated and used for constructing evaporation films for SISG. In comparison to the film constructed with Cu NPs, the evaporation films constructed with Cu@C core–shell NPs exhibit much increased SISG efficiency, reaching 94.6% as high. Except for the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Cu NPs ensuring the excellent photothermal conversion, it is experimentally and theoretically revealed that the surface wettability switching from hydrophobicity to hydrophilicity, as induced by C coating, is beneficial to heat transfer at the solid/liquid interface and water transport at the evaporative surface, thus improving the thermal-evaporation conversion performance for efficient SISG. However, the further thickened C shells would weaken the LSPR effect and hinder the interface heat and water transfer, leading to the decreased photothermal and thermal-evaporation conversion efficiencies, and thus the lowered SISG performances. This demonstration gives an alternative and promising access to the rational design of photothermal materials featured with switchable surface wettability ensuring interface heat and water transfer enhancement for efficient SISG.

Purpose Lamotrigine (LTG) is often used as adjunctive therapy in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS); however, it may worsen myoclonic and atypical absence seizures in LGS patients. This study reviewed the overall efficacy and safety of LTG in children with LGS. Methods This retrospective study included 38 patients (aged 50% in 47.4% of patients (18/38). After 6 months, 20 patients (20/36, 55.6%) showed a favorable response. After 12 months, five patients (5/11, 45.5%) responded to treatment. Three patients showed myoclonic seizures at the start of treatment and >50% amelioration in seizure frequency at the 3- and 6-month follow-up visits. Conclusion This study reaffirms the efficacy and safety of LTG in children with LGS. Therefore, LTG is strongly recommended as an adjunctive therapy for children with LGS.

Abstract Objective In this study, we aimed to investigate the predictive efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics features at different time points of neoadjuvant therapy for rectal cancer in patients with pathological complete response (pCR). Furthermore, we aimed to develop and validate a radiomics space–time model (RSTM) using machine learning for artificial intelligence interventions in predicting pCR in patients. Methods Clinical and imaging data of 83 rectal cancer patients were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were classified as pCR and non-pCR patients according to their postoperative pathological results. All patients received one MRI examination before and after neoadjuvant therapy to extract radiomics features, including pre-treatment, post-treatment, and delta features. Delta features were defined by the ratio of the difference between the pre- and the post-treatment features to the pre-treatment feature. After feature dimensionality reduction based on the above three feature types, the RSTM was constructed using machine learning methods, and its performance was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC). Results The AUC values of the individual basic models constructed by pre-treatment, post-treatment, and delta features were 0.771, 0.681, and 0.871, respectively. Their sensitivity values were 0.727, 0.864, and 0.909, respectively, and their specificity values were 0.803, 0.492, and 0.656, respectively. The AUC, sensitivity, and specificity values of the combined basic model constructed by combining pre-treatment, post-treatment, and delta features were 0.901, 0.909, and 0.803, respectively. The AUC, sensitivity, and specificity values of the RSTM constructed using the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifier on the basis of the combined basic model were 0.944, 0.871, and 0.983, respectively. The Delong test showed that the performance of RSTM was significantly different from that of pre-treatment, post-treatment, and delta models (P 0.05). Conclusions The RSTM constructed using the KNN classifier based on the combined features of before and after neoadjuvant therapy and delta features had the best predictive efficacy for pCR of neoadjuvant therapy. It may emerge as a new clinical tool to assist with individualized management of rectal cancer patients.

Abstract Objective Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) encompasses a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders, including behavioural variant FTD (bvFTD), semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA) and non‐fluent variant PPA (nfvPPA). While a strong genetic component is implicated in FTD, genetic FTD in Asia is less frequently reported. We aimed to investigate the frequency of Southeast Asian FTD patients harbouring known genetic FTD variants. Methods A total of 60 FTD‐spectrum patients (25 familial and 35 sporadic) from Singapore and the Philippines were included. All underwent next‐generation sequencing and repeat‐primed PCR for C9orf72 expansion testing. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels were measured in a subset of patients. Results Overall, 26.6% (16/60 cases) carried pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in a FTD‐related gene, including: MAPT Gln351Arg (n = 1); GRN Cys92Ter (n = 1), Ser301Ter (n = 2), c.462 + 1G > C (n = 1); C9orf72 expansion (35–70 repeats; n = 8); TREM2 Arg47Cys (n = 1); and OPTN frameshift insertion (n = 2). Genetic mutations accounted for 48% (12/25) of patients with familial FTD, and 11.4% (4/35) of patients with sporadic FTD. C9orf72 repeat expansions were the most common genetic mutation (13.3%, 8/60), followed by GRN (6.7%, 4/60) variants. Within mutation carriers, plasma NfL was highest in a C9orf72 expansion carrier, and CSF NfL was highest in a GRN splice variant carrier. Interpretation In our cohort, genetic mutations are present in one‐quarter of FTD‐spectrum cases, and up to half of those with family history. Our findings highlight the importance of wider implementation of genetic testing in FTD patients from Southeast Asia.

ObjectiveCoronary artery disease (CAD) usually coexists with subclinical cerebrovascular diseases given the systematic nature of atherosclerosis. In this study, our objective was to predict the progression of white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and find its risk factors in CAD patients using the coronary artery calcium (CAC) score. We also investigated the relationship between the CAC score and the WMH volume in different brain regions.MethodsWe evaluated 137 CAD patients with WMH who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans from March 2018 to February 2023. Patients were categorized into progressive (n = 66) and nonprogressive groups (n = 71) by the change in WMH volume from the first to the second MRI. We collected demographic, clinical, and imaging data for analysis. Independent risk factors for WMH progression were identified using logistic regression. Three models predicting WMH progression were developed and assessed. Acute pain-related pathology is a significant challenge in clinical practice, and the limitations of traditional pain-relief drugs have made it necessary to explore alternative approaches. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy using CO2 laser has emerged as a promising option. In this study, we aimed to identify the optimal parameters of CO2 laser irradiation for acute pain relief through in vivo and in vitro experiments. First, we validated the laser intensity used in this study through bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) experiments to ensure it will not adversely affect stem cell viability and morphology. Then we conducted a detailed evaluation of the duty cycle and frequency of CO2 laser by the hot plate and formalin test. Results showed a duty cycle of 3% and a frequency of 25 kHz produced the best outcomes. Additionally, we investigated the potential mechanisms underlying the effects of CO2 laser by immunohistochemical staining, and found evidence to suggest that the opioid receptor may be involved in its analgesic effect. In conclusion, this study provides insights into the optimal parameters and underlying mechanisms of CO2 laser therapy for effective pain relief, thereby paving the way for future clinical applications.
