Search

While neutrinos are often treated as a background for many dark matter experiments, these particles offer a new avenue for physics: the detection of core-collapse supernovae. Supernovae are extremely energetic, violent and complex events that mark the death of massive stars. During their collapse stars emit a large number of neutrinos in a short burst. These neutrinos carry 99\% of the emitted energy which makes their detection fundamental in understanding supernovae. This paper illustrates how COSINUS (Cryogenic Observatory for SIgnatures seen in Next-generation Underground Searches), a sodium iodide (NaI) based dark matter search, will be sensitive to the next galactic core-collapse supernova. The experiment is composed of two separate detectors which will be sensitive to far and nearby supernovae. The inner core of the experiment will consist of NaI crystals operating as scintillating calorimeters, mainly sensitive to the Coherent Elastic Scattering of Neutrinos (CE$\nu$NS) against the Na and I nuclei. The low mass of the cryogenic detectors gives the experiment a sensitivity to close supernovae below 1kpc without pileup. They will see up to hundreds of CE$\nu$NS events from a supernova happening at 200pc. The crystals reside at the center of a cylindrical 230T water tank, instrumented with 30 photomultipliers. This tank acts as a passive and active shield able to detect the Cherenkov radiation induced by impinging charged particles from ambient and cosmogenic radioactivity. A supernova near the Milky Way Center (10kpc) will be easily detected inducing $\sim$60 measurable events, and the water tank will have a 3$\sigma$ sensitivity to supernovae up to 22kpc, seeing $\sim$10 events. This paper shows how, even without dedicated optimization, modern dark matter experiments will also play their part in the multi-messenger effort to detect the next galactic core-collapse supernova.

COSINUS is a dark matter (DM) direct search experiment that uses sodium iodide (NaI) crystals as cryogenic calorimeters. Thanks to the low nuclear recoil energy threshold and event-by-event discrimination capability, COSINUS will address the long-standing DM claim made by the DAMA/LIBRA collaboration. The experiment is currently under construction at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, Italy, and employs a large cylindrical water tank as a passive shield to meet the required background rate. However, muon-induced neutrons can mimic a DM signal therefore requiring an active veto system, which is achieved by instrumenting the water tank with an array of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). This study optimizes the number, arrangement, and trigger conditions of the PMTs as well as the size of an optically invisible region. The objective was to maximize the muon veto efficiency while minimizing the accidental trigger rate due to the ambient and instrumental background. The final configuration predicts a veto efficiency of 99.63 $\pm$ 0.16 $\%$ and 44.4 $\pm$ $5.6\%$ in the tagging of muon events and showers of secondary particles, respectively. The active veto will reduce the cosmogenic neutron background rate to 0.11 $\pm$ 0.02 cts$\cdot$kg$^{-1}$$\cdot$year$^{-1}$, corresponding to less than one background event in the region of interest for the whole COSINUS-1$\pi$ exposure of 1000 kg$\cdot$days.

Sodium iodide (NaI) based cryogenic scintillating calorimeters using quantum sensors for signal read out have shown promising first results towards a model-independent test of the annually modulating signal detected by the DAMA/LIBRA dark matter experiment. The COSINUS collaboration has previously reported on the first above-ground measurements using a dual channel readout of phonons and light based on transition edge sensors (TESs) that allows for particle discrimination on an event-by-event basis. In this letter, we outline the first underground measurement of a NaI cryogenic calorimeter read out via the novel remoTES scheme. A 3.67 g NaI absorber with an improved silicon light detector design was operated at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, Italy. A significant improvement in the discrimination power of $e^-$/$\gamma$-events to nuclear recoils was observed with a five-fold improvement in the nuclear recoil baseline resolution, achieving $\sigma$ = 441 eV. Furthermore, we present a limit on the spin-independent dark-matter nucleon elastic scattering cross-section achieving a sensitivity of $\mathcal{O}$(pb) with an exposure of only 11.6 g d., Comment: 11 pages, 14 figures

The COSINUS direct dark matter experiment situated at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy is set to investigate the nature of the annually modulating signal detected by the DAMA/LIBRA experiment. COSINUS has already demonstrated that sodium iodide crystals can be operated at mK temperature as cryogenic scintillating calorimeters using transition edge sensors, despite the complication of handling a hygroscopic and low melting point material. With results from a new COSINUS prototype, we show that particle discrimination on an event-by-event basis in NaI is feasible using the dual-channel readout of both phonons and scintillation light. The detector was mounted in the novel remoTES design and operated in an above-ground facility for 9.06 g$\cdot$d of exposure. With a 3.7 g NaI crystal, e$^-$/$\gamma$ events could be clearly distinguished from nuclear recoils down to the nuclear recoil energy threshold of 15 keV., Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures

Low-temperature calorimeters based on a readout via Transition Edge Sensors (TESs) and operated below $100$ mK are well suited for rare event searches with outstanding resolution and low thresholds. We present first experimental results from two detector prototypes using a novel design of the thermometer coupling denoted remoTES, which further extends the applicability of the TES technology by including a wider class of potential absorber materials. In particular, this design facilitates the use of materials whose physical and chemical properties, as e.g. hygroscopicity, low hardness and low melting point, prevent the direct fabrication of the TES onto their surface. This is especially relevant in the context of the COSINUS experiment (Cryogenic Observatory for SIgnals seen in Next-Generation Underground Searches), where sodium iodide (NaI) is used as absorber material. With two remoTES prototype detectors operated in an above-ground R&D facility, we achieve energy resolutions of $\sigma=87.8$ eV for a $2.33$ g silicon absorber and $\sigma = 193.5$ eV for a $2.27$ g $\alpha$-TeO$_{2}$ absorber, respectively. RemoTES calorimeters offer - besides the wider choice of absorber materials - a simpler production process combined with a higher reproducibility for large detector arrays and an enhanced radiopurity standard.

The COSINUS (Cryogenic Observatory for SIgnatures seen in Next-generation Underground Searches) experiment aims at the detection of dark matter-induced recoils in sodium iodide (NaI) crystals operated as scintillating cryogenic calorimeters. The detection of both scintillation light and phonons allows performing an event-by-event signal to background discrimination, thus enhancing the sensitivity of the experiment. The construction of the experimental facility is foreseen to start by 2021 at the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) in Italy. It consists of a cryostat housing the target crystals shielded from the external radioactivity by a water tank acting, at the same time, as an active veto against cosmic ray-induced events. Taking into account both environmental radioactivity and intrinsic contamination of materials used for cryostat, shielding and infrastructure, we performed a careful background budget estimation. The goal is to evaluate the number of events that could mimic or interfere with signal detection while optimising the geometry of the experimental setup. This is the third out of five chapters of the final report [1] of the Workshop on Physics at HL-LHC, and perspectives on HE-LHC [2]. It is devoted to the study of the potential, in the search for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics, of the High Luminosity (HL) phase of the LHC, defined as $3~\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$ of data taken at a centre-of-mass energy of $14~\mathrm{TeV}$, and of a possible future upgrade, the High Energy (HE) LHC, defined as $15~\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$ of data at a centre-of-mass energy of $27~\mathrm{TeV}$. We consider a large variety of new physics models, both in a simplified model fashion and in a more model-dependent one. A long list of contributions from the theory and experimental (ATLAS, CMS, LHCb) communities have been collected and merged together to give a complete, wide, and consistent view of future prospects for BSM physics at the considered colliders. On top of the usual standard candles, such as supersymmetric simplified models and resonances, considered for the evaluation of future collider potentials, this report contains results on dark matter and dark sectors, long lived particles, leptoquarks, sterile neutrinos, axion-like particles, heavy scalars, vector-like quarks, and more. Particular attention is placed, especially in the study of the HL-LHC prospects, to the detector upgrades, the assessment of the future systematic uncertainties, and new experimental techniques. The general conclusion is that the HL-LHC, on top of allowing to extend the present LHC mass and coupling reach by $20-50\%$ on most new physics scenarios, will also be able to constrain, and potentially discover, new physics that is presently unconstrained. The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a TeV-scale high-luminosity linear $e^+e^-$ collider under development at CERN. Following the CLIC conceptual design published in 2012, this report provides an overview of the CLIC project, its current status, and future developments. It presents the CLIC physics potential and reports on design, technology, and implementation aspects of the accelerator and the detector. CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in stages, at centre-of-mass energies of 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV, respectively. CLIC uses a two-beam acceleration scheme, in which 12 GHz accelerating structures are powered via a high-current drive beam. For the first stage, an alternative with X-band klystron powering is also considered. CLIC accelerator optimisation, technical developments and system tests have resulted in an increased energy efficiency (power around 170 MW) for the 380 GeV stage, together with a reduced cost estimate at the level of 6 billion CHF. The detector concept has been refined using improved software tools. Significant progress has been made on detector technology developments for the tracking and calorimetry systems. A wide range of CLIC physics studies has been conducted, both through full detector simulations and parametric studies, together providing a broad overview of the CLIC physics potential. Each of the three energy stages adds cornerstones of the full CLIC physics programme, such as Higgs width and couplings, top-quark properties, Higgs self-coupling, direct searches, and many precision electroweak measurements. The interpretation of the combined results gives crucial and accurate insight into new physics, largely complementary to LHC and HL-LHC. The construction of the first CLIC energy stage could start by 2026. The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Subsequent stages will focus on measurements of rare Higgs processes, as well as searches for new physics processes and precision measurements of new states, e.g. states previously discovered at LHC or at CLIC itself. In the 2012 CLIC Conceptual Design Report, a fully optimised 3 TeV collider was presented, while the proposed lower energy stages were not studied to the same level of detail. This report presents an updated baseline staging scenario for CLIC. The scenario is the result of a comprehensive study addressing the performance, cost and power of the CLIC accelerator complex as a function of centre-of-mass energy and it targets optimal physics output based on the current physics landscape. The optimised staging scenario foresees three main centre-of-mass energy stages at 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV for a full CLIC programme spanning 22 years. The goal of this report is to summarize the current situation and discuss possible search strategies for charged scalars, in non-supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model at the LHC. Such scalars appear in Multi-Higgs-Doublet models (MHDM), in particular in the popular Two-Higgs-Doublet model (2HDM), allowing for charged and additional neutral Higgs bosons. These models have the attractive property that electroweak precision observables are automatically in agreement with the Standard Model at the tree level. For the most popular version of this framework, Model~II, a discovery of a charged Higgs boson remains challenging, since the parameter space is becoming very constrained, and the QCD background is very high. We also briefly comment on models with dark matter which constrain the corresponding charged scalars that occur in these models. The stakes of a possible discovery of an extended scalar sector are very high, and these searches should be pursued in all conceivable channels, at the LHC and at future colliders., Comment: 65 pages, revised version to appear in EPJ C

The proposed Long Baseline Neutrino Observatory (LBNO) initially consists of $\sim 20$ kton liquid double phase TPC complemented by a magnetised iron calorimeter, to be installed at the Pyh\"asalmi mine, at a distance of 2300 km from CERN. The conventional neutrino beam is produced by 400 GeV protons accelerated at the SPS accelerator delivering 700 kW of power. The long baseline provides a unique opportunity to study neutrino flavour oscillations over their 1st and 2nd oscillation maxima exploring the $L/E$ behaviour, and distinguishing effects arising from $\delta_{CP}$ and matter. In this paper we show how this comprehensive physics case can be further enhanced and complemented if a neutrino beam produced at the Protvino IHEP accelerator complex, at a distance of 1160 km, and with modest power of 450 kW is aimed towards the same far detectors. We show that the coupling of two independent sub-MW conventional neutrino and antineutrino beams at different baselines from CERN and Protvino will allow to measure CP violation in the leptonic sector at a confidence level of at least $3\sigma$ for 50\% of the true values of $\delta_{CP}$ with a 20 kton detector. With a far detector of 70 kton, the combination allows a $3\sigma$ sensitivity for 75\% of the true values of $\delta_{CP}$ after 10 years of running. Running two independent neutrino beams, each at a power below 1 MW, is more within today's state of the art than the long-term operation of a new single high-energy multi-MW facility, which has several technical challenges and will likely require a learning curve., Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures

One of the main goals of the Long Baseline Neutrino Observatory (LBNO) is to study the $L/E$ behaviour (spectral information) of the electron neutrino and antineutrino appearance probabilities, in order to determine the unknown CP-violation phase $\delta_{CP}$ and discover CP-violation in the leptonic sector. The result is based on the measurement of the appearance probabilities in a broad range of energies, covering t he 1st and 2nd oscillation maxima, at a very long baseline of 2300 km. The sensitivity of the experiment can be maximised by optimising the energy spectra of the neutrino and anti-neutrino fluxes. Such an optimisation requires exploring an extended range of parameters describing in details the geometries and properties of the primary protons, hadron target and focusing elements in the neutrino beam line. In this paper we present a numerical solution that leads to an optimised energy spectra and study its impact on the sensitivity of LBNO to discover leptonic CP violation. In the optimised flux both 1st and 2nd oscillation maxima play an important role in the CP sensitivity. The studies also show that this configuration is less sensitive to systematic errors (e.g. on the total event rates) than an experiment which mainly relies on the neutrino-antineutrino asymmetry at the 1st maximum to determine the existence of CP-violation., Comment: 25 pages, 20 figures

The next generation neutrino observatory proposed by the LBNO collaboration will address fundamental questions in particle and astroparticle physics. The experiment consists of a far detector, in its first stage a 20 kt LAr double phase TPC and a magnetised iron calorimeter, situated at 2300 km from CERN and a near detector based on a high-pressure argon gas TPC. The long baseline provides a unique opportunity to study neutrino flavour oscillations over their 1st and 2nd oscillation maxima exploring the $L/E$ behaviour, and distinguishing effects arising from $\delta_{CP}$ and matter. In this paper we have reevaluated the physics potential of this setup for determining the mass hierarchy (MH) and discovering CP-violation (CPV), using a conventional neutrino beam from the CERN SPS with a power of 750 kW. We use conservative assumptions on the knowledge of oscillation parameter priors and systematic uncertainties. The impact of each systematic error and the precision of oscillation prior is shown. We demonstrate that the first stage of LBNO can determine unambiguously the MH to $>5\sigma$C.L. over the whole phase space. We show that the statistical treatment of the experiment is of very high importance, resulting in the conclusion that LBNO has $\sim$ 100% probability to determine the MH in at most 4-5 years of running. Since the knowledge of MH is indispensable to extract $\delta_{CP}$ from the data, the first LBNO phase can convincingly give evidence for CPV on the $3\sigma$C.L. using today's knowledge on oscillation parameters and realistic assumptions on the systematic uncertainties., Comment: 35 pages, 22 figures, added authors

We analyze the flavor violation in warped extra dimension due to radion mediation. We show that \Delta S=2 and \Delta B=2 flavor violating processes impose stringent constraints on radion mass, m_\phi and the scale \Lambda_\phi. In particular, for \Lambda_\phi ~ O(1) TeV, B_d^0-\bar{B}^0_d implies that m_\phi ~ 65 GeV. We also study radion contributions to lepton flavor violating processes: \tau -> (e,\mu) \phi, \tau -> e\mu^+\mu^- and B -> l_i l_j. We show that BR(B_s -> \mu^+ \mu^-) can be of order 10^{-8}, which is reachable at the LHCb. The radion search at LHC, through the flavor violation decays into \tau \mu or top-charm quarks, is also considered., Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures

We study inert charged Higgs boson $H^\pm$ production and decays at LHC experiments in the context of constrained scalar dark matter model (CSDMM). In the CSDMM the inert doublet and singlet scalar's mass spectrum is predicted from the GUT scale initial conditions via RGE evolution. We compute the cross sections of processes $pp\to H^+H^-,\, H^\pm S_i^0$ at the LHC and show that for light $H^\pm$ the first one is dominated by top quark mediated 1-loop diagram with Higgs boson in s-channel. In a significant fraction of the parameter space $H^\pm$ are long-lived because their decays to predominantly singlet scalar dark matter (DM) and next-to-lightest (NL) scalar, $H^\pm\to S_{\text{DM, NL}} ff',$ are suppressed by the small singlet-doublet mixing angle and by the moderate mass difference $ \Delta M=M_{H^+}-M_{\text{DM}} .$ The experimentally measurable displaced vertex in $H^\pm$ decays to leptons and/or jets and missing energy allows one to discover the $H^+H^-$ signal over the huge $W^+W^-$ background. We propose benchmark points for studies of this scenario at the LHC. If, however, $H^\pm$ are short-lived, the subsequent decays $S_{\text{NL}}\to S_{\text{DM}} f\bar f$ necessarily produce additional displaced vertices that allow to reconstruct the full $H^\pm$ decay chain., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures

We analyze the $5\sigma$ difference between the CP asymmetries of the $B^0 \to K^+ \pi^-$ and $B^+ \to K^+ \pi^0$ decays within the Soft Collinear Effective Theory. We find that in the Standard Model, such a big difference cannot be achieved. We classify then the requirements for the possible New Physics models, which can be responsible for the experimental results. As an example of a New Physics model we study minimal supersymmetric models, and find that the measured asymmetry can be obtained with non-minimal flavor violation., Comment: 13 pages, one reference added, section V modified, conclusions unchanged

We discuss the prospects of searching for the neutral Higgs bosons of the triplet model in central exclusive production at the LHC. A detailed Monte Carlo analysis is presented for six benchmark scenarios for the Higgs boson, $H_1^{0}$, these cover $m_{H_1^0}=$~120, 150 GeV and doublet-triplet mixing of $c_H=$~0.2, 0.5 or 0.8. We find that, for appropriate values of $c_H$, an excellent Higgs mass measurement is possible for the neutral Higgs in the triplet model, and discuss how to distinguish the triplet model Higgs boson from the Higgs boson of the Standard Model., Comment: 28 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables; new references added, 1 table added, some clarifications in the text

We construct an extension of the supersymmetric standard model where both CP symmetry and R-parity are spontaneously broken. We study the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the model and find minima consistent with the experimental bounds on Higgs boson masses. Neutrino masses and mixing angles are generated through both seesaw and bilinear R-parity violation. We show that the hierarchical mass pattern is obtained, and mixings are consistent with measured values. Due to the spontaneous CP and R-parity violation, the neutrino sector is CP violating, and we calculate the corresponding phase. We further restrict the parameter space to agree with the limits on the electric dipole moment of the neutron. Finally, we study the CP violation parameter epsilon_K in the kaon system and show that we obtain results consistent with the experimental value., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, submitted to EPJC

We consider the minimal coupling of two photons to neutral scalar and pseudoscalar fields, as for instance in the case of the Higgs boson and axion, respectively. In this framework, we analyze the photon dispersion relations in the presence of static and homogeneous external magnetic and electric fields, by taking into account the contribution of the imaginary part of the scalar/pseudoscalar self-energy. We show that this contribution cannot be neglected when it is of the same order as the photon-scalar/pseudoscalar mixing term. In addition to the usual light-like photon propagation mode, with a refraction index n > 1, a massive mode with mass of the order of the coupled boson mass can be induced, provided that the external field is above a particular critical value. Depending on the values of the external field, photon energy, and mass of the scalar/pseudoscalar particle, the scalar/pseudoscalar width could induce a sizeable rate of photon splitting in two photons due to a strong resonant phenomenon. This effect has no practical laboratory applications for the Higgs physics due to the very large critical external magnetic or electric fields involved, for a photon energy of the order of a TeV. In this talk CP violation in the supersymmetric models, and especially in B-decays is discussed. We review our analysis of the supersymmetric contributions to the mixing CP asymmetries of $B\to \phi K_S$ and $B\to \eta^{\prime} K_S$ processes. Both gluino and chargino exchanges are considered in a model independent way by using the mass insertion approximation method. The QCD factorization method is used, and parametrization of this method in terms of Wilson coefficients is presented in both decay modes. We systematically analyze the supersymmetric contributions to the mixing CP asymmetries and branching ratios of B -> Phi K(S) and B -> eta(prime) K(S) processes. We consider both gluino and chargino exchanges in a model independent way by using the mass insertion approximation method. While we adopt the QCD factorization approach for evaluating the corresponding hadronic matrix elements, a critical comparison with predictions in naive factorization one is also provided. We find that pure chargino contributions cannot accommodate the current experimental results on CP asymmetries, mainly due to b -> s gamma constraints. We show that charged Higgs contributions can relax these constraints making chargino responsible for large asymmetries. On the other hand, gluino exchanges can easily saturate both the constraints on B -> Phi K(S) and B -> eta(prime) K(S) CP asymmetries. Moreover, we also find that the simultaneous contributions from gluino and chargino exchanges could easily account for the present experimental results on the mentioned asymmetries. Remarkably, large experimentally allowed enhancements of B -> eta(prime) K(S) branching ratio can easily be achieved by the contribution of two mass insertions in gluino exchanges. Finally, we analyze the correlations between the CP asymmetries of these processes and the direct CP asymmetry in b -> s gamma decay. We perform a model independent analysis of the chargino contributions to the CP asymmetry in B -> Phi K(S) process. We use the mass insertion approximation method generalized by including the possibility of a light right-stop. We find that the dominant effect is given by the contributions of the mass insertions deltaU_LL(32) and deltaU_RL(32) to the Wilson coefficient of the chromomagnetic operator. By considering both these contributions simultaneously, the CP asymmetry in B -> Phi K(S) process is significantly reduced and negative values, which are within the 1-sigma experimental range and satisfy the b -> s gamma constraints, can be obtained., Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX, 3.eps Figures

We derive the general upper bounds on the mass of the lightest neutralino, as a function of the gluino mass, in different supersymmetry breaking models with minimal particle content and the standard model gauge group. This includes models with gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking (SUGRA), as well as models with anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB). We include the next-to-leading order corrections in our evaluation of these bounds. We then expand the mass matrix in powers of M_Z/mu, and find the upper bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino from this expansion. By scanning over all of the parameter space, we find that the bound we have obtained can be saturated. We study in detail the particle spectrum in anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking models in which supersymmetry breaking terms are induced by the super-Weyl anomaly. We investigate the minimal anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking models, gaugino assisted supersymmetry breaking models, as well as models with additional residual nondecoupling D-term contributions due to an extra U(1) gauge symmetry at a high energy scale. We derive sum rules for the sparticle masses in these models which can help in differentiating between them. We also obtain the sparticle spectrum numerically, and compare and contrast the results so obtained for the different types of anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking models., Comment: LaTeX, 20 pages, 6 figures. We study the single production of sneutrinos with two leptons (or jets) via $\gamma\gamma$ collision in an R-parity ($R_{p}$) violating supersymmetric model. The subsequent decays of the sneutrino are also considered. The single production of sneutrinos may provide a significant test of supersymmetry and $R_p$-violation with flavour conserving and flavour changing final states. If such processes coming from $R_p$ violation are not detected, the parameter space of the model will be strongly constrained at the future Linear Collider., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures

We study the resonance production of radions via $\gamma\gamma$ fusion in the Randall-Sundrum model. We find that the cross section of the process in the $\gamma\gamma$ mode of a linear collider (LC) can be of similar size as in the $e^+e^-$ collision mode, if the radion is heavy. We consider the possible curvature-Higgs mixing in the model, and we find that the mixing should be constrained in order to avoid an unphysical state. The process $\gamma\gamma \to \phi$ is the main source of radions at LC near the conformal limit. We consider both the decay modes of radion with curvature-Higgs mixing and without. Our results show that the radion with mass below 800 GeV could be detected at LC with any mixing parameter and vacuum expectation value of the radion around 1 TeV., Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures

We investigate bounds from tree-level and one-loop processes in generic supersymmetric models with spontaneous R-parity breaking in the superpotential. We analyse the bounds from a general point of view. The bounds are applicable both for all models with spontaneous R-parity violation and for explicit bilinear R-parity violation based on general lepton-chargino and neutrino-neutralino mixings. We find constraints from semileptonic B, D and K decays, leptonic decays of the mu and tau, electric dipole moments, as well as bounds for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon., Comment: 22 pages

We study the single production of scalar neutrinos or charginos via $\gamma\gamma$ collision in an R-parity ($R_{p}$) violating supersymmetric model. It may be possible to detect a sneutrino or a chargino at a Linear Collider (LC) in $\gamma \gamma$ operation mode, as a test of supersymmetry and $R_p$-violation. Because of the clean background in LC, stringent constraints on $R_p$ violating parameters can be obtained even if the process cannot be observed at the future Linear Collider., Comment: 13 pages, 15 figures

We study the production of $(t+\bar{t}) \tilde{g}$ at the hadron colliders in an R-parity ($R_{p}$) violating supersymmetric model. This process provides us with information not only about $R_{p}$ violation, but may also help us in detecting the supersymmetry itself. It is possible to detect an $R_{p}$ violating signal (with single gluino production) at the future hadron colliders, such as Fermilab Tevatron Run II or CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), if the parameters in the supersymmetric $\rlap/ R_{p}$ interactions are not too small, e.g. for $m_{\tilde{g}}=1$ TeV, $\lambda^{''}=0.1$, still hundreds of events are produced at LHC with luminosity $30 fb^{-1}$. Even if we could not detect a signal of $ \rlap/R_{p}$ in the experiment, we get stringent constraints on the heavy flavour $\rlap/R_{p}$ couplings. We consider the production of singly charged Higgs bosons in the Higgs triplet and two Higgs doublet models. We evaluate the cross sections for the pair production and the single production of charged higgses at linear collider. The decay modes of $H^+$ and the Standard Model backgrounds are considered. We study flavour violation in the minimal SUSY SU(5) GUT assuming all the third generation Yukawa couplings to be due to the renormalizable physics above GUT scale. At large $\tan\beta,$ as suggested by Yukawa unification in SU(5), sizable flavour violation in the left (right) slepton (down squark) sector is induced due to renormalization effects of down type Yukawa couplings between GUT and Planck scales in addition to the flavour violation in the right slepton sector. The new flavour physics contribution to $K-\bar K,$ $B-\bar B$ mixing is small but might be of phenomenological interest in the case of $b\to s\gamma.$ The sign of the latter contribution is the same as the sign of the dominant chargino contribution, thus making the constraints on SUSY scale coming from $b\to s\gamma$ somewhat more restrictive. The most important feature of the considered scenario is the large rate of lepton flavour violation. Given the present experimental constraints, the $\mu\to e\gamma$ and $\mu-e$ conversion branching ratios are above the sensitivity of the planned experiments unless the SUSY scale is pushed above one TeV., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures

The left-right model is a gauge theory of electroweak interactions based on the gauge symmetry SU(2)_R . The main motivations for this model are that it gives an explanation for the parity violation of weak interactions, provides a mechanism (see-saw) for generating neutrino masses, and has B-L as a gauge symmetry. The quark-lepton symmetry in weak interactions is also maintained in this theory. The model has many predictions one can directly test at a TeV-scale linear collider. We will consider here two processes (e,e -> q, q, barQ, barQ and e,e ->mu, nu, q, barQ) testing the lepton flavour violation predicted by the model. We review the phenomenology of light Higgs scalars in supersymmetric left-right models. We consider models with minimal particle content (with and without non-renormalizable higher-dimensional terms) and with additional Higgs superfields. The upper bound on the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson in these models is larger than in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and the Higgs couplings to fermions approach those of the Standard Model. We carry out a detailed analysis of the light Higgs bosons in supersymmetric left-right models (SLRM). This includes models with minimal particle content and those with additional Higgs superfields. We also consider models with non-renormalizable higher-dimensional terms. We obtain an upper bound on the mass of the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson in these models. The upper bound depends only on the gauge couplings, and the vacuum expectation values of those neutral Higgs fields which control the spontaneous breakdown of the $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ gauge symmetry. We calculate the one-loop radiative corrections to this upper bound, and evaluate it numerically in the minimal version of the supersymmetric left-right model. We consider the couplings of this lightest CP-even Higgs boson to the fermions, and show that in a phenomenologically viable model the branching ratios are similar to the corresponding branching ratios in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We then study the most promising particle for distinguishing the SLRM from other models, namely the doubly charged Higgs boson. We obtain the mass of this doubly charged Higgs boson in different types of supersymmetric left-right models, and discuss its phenomenology., Comment: 29 pages, 4 figures

We study a class of generalized models of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB). We find the parameters and the full particle spectrum of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) for all GMSB models with messenger multiplicities that satisfy the perturbativity of the gauge couplings up to the GUT scale. We give a detailed description of the algorithm that has been used to predict all the unmeasured parameters of the MSSM by taking (one-loop) radiative effects into account. We also calculate the branching ratio $BR(b \to s \gamma)$ and find that it always turns out to be larger than the standard model prediction. However, we find that the branching ratio typically remains within the current experimental bounds, except for some special cases with a light charged Higgs boson, or a small supersymmetry breaking scale and a negative $\mu$-parameter., Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures

By considering the constraints from nucleon decay we obtain upper limits on tan beta in generalized supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. We derive new constraints on the products of explicitly R-parity violating couplings $\lambda$ and $\lambda'$ in MSSM from searches for \mu-e conversion in nuclei. We concentrate on the loop induced photonic coherent conversion mode. For the combinations $|\lambda\lambda|$ which in \mu-e conversion can be probed only at loop level our constraints are in many cases more stringent than the previous ones due to the enhancement of the process by large $\ln(m^2_f/m^2_{\tilde f}).$ For the combinations of $|\lambda'\lambda'|$ the tree-level \mu-e conversion constraints are usually more restrictive than the loop ones except for two cases which involve the third generation. With the expected improvements in the experimental sensitivity, the \mu-e conversion will become the most stringent test for all the involved combinations of couplings., Comment: 15 pages, one figure included, needs elsart.sty

We'll review our study of the constraints on the scales in the supersymmetric left-right model (SUSYLR). The conservation of color and electromagnetism in the ground state of the theory implies a relation between right-handed gauge boson mass and soft squark mass. Furthermore, in general for heavy $W_R$, $\tan\alpha$ is larger than one, and the right-handed sneutrino VEV, responsible for spontaneous R-parity breaking, is at most of the order $M_{SUSY}/h_{\Delta_R}$, where $M_{SUSY}$ is supersymmetry breaking scale and $h_{\Delta_R}$ is the Yukawa coupling in Majorana mass term for right-handed neutrinos., Comment: 5 pages, Latex, talk given in Beyond the Standard Model V in Balholm, Norway

We review the consequences of spontaneously broken R-parity in present and planned lepton-lepton colliders. In the left-right models the R-parity, $R=(-1)^{3(B-L)+2S}$, is preserved due to the gauge symmetry, but it must be spontaneously broken in order to the scalar spectrum to be physically consistent. The spontaneous breaking is generated via a non-vanishing VEV of at least one of the sneutrinos, which necessarily means non-conservation of lepton number $L$. The R-parity violating couplings are parametrized in terms of mixing angles, whose values depend on model parameters. Combined with the constraints derived from low-energy measurements this yields allowed ranges for various R-parity breaking couplings. We consider the lightest Higgs boson in naturally R-parity conserving supersymmetric left-right models. We obtain an upper bound on the tree level mass of this lightest Higgs boson. This upper bound depends on the $SU(2)_L$ and $SU(2)_R$ gauge couplings, and the vacuum expectation values of bidoublet Higgs fields, which are needed to break $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$. The upper bound does not depend on either the $SU(2)_R$ breaking scale or the supersymmetry breaking scale. We evaluate the bound numerically by assuming that the theory remains perturbative upto some scale $\Lambda$. We find that the bound can be considerably larger than in MSSM.
