Coating modification is an important way to enhance the reactivity of aluminum powder. In this paper, ammonium perchlorate and aluminum powder were assembled into energetic microunits by liquid deposition method. Spherical particles with AP as shell and ultrafine aluminum powder as the core (Al@AP) were gained. The micromorphology results show that the coated particles are about 5 μm, and the coating layer is evenly distributed on the outer surface of aluminum powder, indicating a complete coating. The energetic microunits were implanted into the nitrate ester plasticizing adhesive system (NEPE) as solid phase fillers. The effect of filler on the rheological properties, safety, mechanical properties, thermal reaction and energy properties of the system was analyzed by comparing with the raw aluminum filler. The test results show that the rheological properties, mechanical properties and pressure index of NEPE containing system Al@AP meets the requirements of solid propellant charging. Compared with Al based propellant, the mechanical sensitivity and thermal sensitivity are decreased, the safety is better, and the explosion heat of the propellant is increased by 7.8%. The engine test shows that the specific impulse is increased by 1.2 s. Al@AP can improve the energy output and safety of NEPE propellant, and has potential application prospects in high-energy propellants.

The efficient cutting of non-woven fabric shows great significance to the development of the textile industry. In recent years, laser cutting technology has been widely applied in the clothing industry due to its high efficiency and cutting quality. In this work, a UV nanosecond pulsed laser with a wavelength of 355 nm and a max power of 6.5 W is used to cut non-woven fabric with a thickness of 0.15 mm. The variation of kerf width, surface morphology, and chemical contents are investigated under different laser processing parameters, and the optimal processing parameter is determined. The experimental results demonstrate that the degree of crystallization and chemical composition of the kerf on the non-woven fabric surface is significantly influenced by laser cutting parameters such as laser scanning speed (from 100 to 700 mm/s) and frequency (from 20 to 70 kHz). The scanning speed of 500 mm/s and frequency of 30 kHz are considered the best parameters for achieving abundant energy for the complete and efficient cutting of non-woven fabric. In addition, the level of carbonization and oxidation reaches a relatively low value, and the kerf width is 0.214 mm, which is considered a reasonable value under the optimal processing parameters, showing high cutting quality. Furthermore, the effect of different cutting treatments on surface morphology and chemical contents is also studied. The experimental results present that the non-woven fabric cut by laser possesses a flat kerf, showing a similar effect to that of scissor cutting. Moreover, due to the programmability of laser processing patterns, it is possible to create more intricate designs on non-woven fabric. This facilitates the application and promotion of laser-cut non-woven fabrics. These results can provide a certain reference for laser cutting in the textile industry and are expected to allow for the cutting of high-quality kerf with low carbonization and oxidation.

The rapid expansion of digital commerce, particularly same-day-delivery and next-day-delivery online shopping, is transforming daily life and community dynamics in urban settings. This study explores how these shopping behaviors impact the sense of community by mediating various social activities at both individual and community levels. Using an online survey design, this study analyzes the mediating roles of different types of social interactions, including informal social gatherings and organized community events, in shaping a sense of community. The findings reveal that while both unplanned, low-threshold interactions and more structured, organized activities contribute to a sense of community, their effects vary in strength. Stronger, more deliberate social interactions, such as resident-led events, show a full mediation effect, whereas casual, spontaneous encounters provide partial mediation. Similarly, organized community events demonstrate different levels of influence, with community-organized activities fully mediating certain sense of community dimensions and resident-engaged activities providing more comprehensive impacts. These findings highlight that same-day-delivery and next-day-delivery online shopping behaviors significantly shape the sense of community by facilitating both informal and organized social interactions.

Community streets play a crucial role in promoting healthy aging and encouraging active behaviors among older adults. This study focuses on two types of activities of older adults: walking and social interaction. We explored the relationship between physical environmental factors and different activity types using a multiple linear regression model. Eye-level green visibility (GSVN) was used to represent the diversity of facilities (DFN), while betweenness (ABN) accounted for the mixed degree of functions (PNi), enhancing model stability. The results indicate that community environmental factors, both individually (R2 = 0.390) and in combination (R2 = 0.409), have significant effects on active behaviors. Notably, the combined variable model demonstrated greater stability. Moreover, the model’s explanatory power for social interaction (R2 = 0.567) was much higher than for walking behavior (R2= 0.137), underscoring the stronger influence of combined variables on social engagement. The results suggest that creating age-friendly urban environments requires a holistic approach that improves infrastructure, green visibility, and functional diversity to promote both mobility and social interaction. These insights provide valuable guidance for designing inclusive urban spaces that support active aging.

Informal green spaces (IGSs) play an essential role in enhancing urban well-being by offering restorative environments, yet the impact of visitor behaviors on perceived restorativeness (PR) remains underexplored. This study investigates how different spatio-temporal behaviors influence PR in IGS, providing urban planners with actionable insights to optimize these spaces for better user experiences. Using a visitor-employed photography (VEP) survey and post-visit PR assessments, K-means clustering was applied to identify distinct visitor behavior patterns. Correlation analysis further explored the relationships between these patterns and PR; the results reveal three unique clusters of visitor behaviors—fast, extensive exploration; moderate, focused exploration; and slow, thorough exploration—each showing distinct impacts on PR. Visitors who engage in rapid, broad exploration perceive larger, navigable spaces as more restorative, while those focusing on specific or in-depth exploration emphasize psychological aspects like escape and fascination. These behavioral patterns demonstrate varying strengths in their association with restorative experiences; This study underscores the importance of integrating spatio-temporal behavior data with PR assessments, highlighting how the physical and psychological features of IGS influence visitor experiences. These findings offer critical insights for designing and managing IGS to accommodate diverse user needs and promote urban well-being.

Traditional thawing techniques can cause certain losses to beef quality. Due to the increasing demand for high-quality beef, there is an urgent need to research new thawing techniques. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), as an innovative non-thermal thawing technology, still has a lot of work to be studied. In order to explore the influence of DBD on the thawing characteristics and quality of beef, different discharge parameters were used for thawing. The results show that voltage and needle distance have significant effects on ion wind speed and composition. Ion wind can improve the thawing rate, and the thawing time of DBD is 50% shorter than that of natural thawing. DBD improved the water-holding capacity, nutritional components, and color of beef, and the ordered structure of beef protein could be improved by 6.25% at most. The plasma emission spectrum shows that the plasma produced by DBD is mainly active substances of nitrogen and oxygen, which can reduce the fat oxidation of thawed beef and improve the quality of beef. This work provides the theoretical basis and practical guidance for deeply understanding the influencing parameters and thawing mechanism of DBD thawing technology.

Gender recognition is an important part of the duck industry. Currently, the gender identification of ducks mainly relies on manual labor, which is highly labor-intensive. This study aims to propose a novel method for distinguishing between males and females based on the characteristic sound parameters for day-old ducks. The effective data from the sounds of day-old ducks were recorded and extracted using the endpoint detection method. The 12-dimensional Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) with first-order and second-order difference coefficients in the effective sound signals of the ducks were calculated, and a total of 36-dimensional feature vectors were obtained. These data were used as input information to train three classification models, include a backpropagation neural network (BPNN), a deep neural network (DNN), and a convolutional neural network (CNN). The training results show that the accuracies of the BPNN, DNN, and CNN were 83.87%, 83.94%, and 84.15%, respectively, and that the three classification models could identify the sounds of male and female ducks. The prediction results showed that the prediction accuracies of the BPNN, DNN, and CNN were 93.33%, 91.67%, and 95.0%, respectively, which shows that the scheme for distinguishing between male and female ducks via sound had high accuracy. Moreover, the CNN demonstrated the best recognition effect. The method proposed in this study can provide some support for developing an efficient technique for gender identification in duck production.

People’s reduced connection with nature has led to many health problems. In the NBS framework, urban wildscapes (UWSs) are considered an important solution. They can contribute to improving the health of residents and ecosystems within the city. However, overly wild green spaces may also be offensive to residents. It is necessary to understand the public’s acceptance of UWSs. Current studies on the acceptance of UWSs have used vague terms to generalize the “wildness degree”. In this study, we attempted to quantify the degree of wildness using plant height and plant abundance in Japan and analyzed the results through mediated effect analysis. We discovered the following: 1. Japanese residents have low acceptance of UWSs in vacant lots. 2. The use of “height” and “abundance” may be a more objective way to quantify wildness. 3. The negative effects of abundance can be minimized. The negative effect of height cannot be controlled. This study addresses a gap in the study of Asian cities and proposes a novel approach to quantifying “wildness.” It improves the health benefits of UWSs. Furthermore, it can offer guidance on the management and construction of urban green spaces.

Depending on its duration, stress can be divided into chronic and acute stress, both of which can be detrimental to an individual's mental health. Psychological suzhi may act as a protective factor that buffers the adverse effects of stress. This study aimed to explore the moderating role of psychological suzhi in the relationship between these two types of stress and mental health based on a dual-factor model of mental health. Study 1 explored the moderating role of psychological suzhi on the relationship between chronic stress and mental health using the Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List, College Student Psychological Suzhi Scale Brief Mental Health Version, Satisfaction With Life Scale, and 12-item General Health Questionnaire to investigate 919 Chinese college students. A hierarchical regression model was used to examine the moderating effects. Study 2 examined the moderating role of psychological suzhi on the relationship between acute stress and mental health. Participants (N = 56) were classified into high (N = 30) and low (N = 26) psychological suzhi groups based on the Psychological Suzhi Scale. They completed the Trier Social Stress Test for Groups and a specific control condition, and their state anxiety and happiness levels were assessed. Data were analyzed using a mixed-design repeated-measures ANOVA. The effects of deionized water thawing (DT), plasma-activated water thawing (PT), ultrasound (150 W, 40 kHz) combined with deionized water thawing (UDT), and ultrasound combined with plasma-activated water thawing (UPT) on the thawing characteristics and the physicochemical properties of the beef were investigated. The results showed that the UPT group had a faster thawing rate (38 % higher compared to the PT group) and good bactericidal ability (75 % higher compared to the UDT group), and had no adverse effect on the color and pH value of the beef. Plasma-activated water (PAW) can maintain the stability of the beef fiber, improve the water holding capacity (WHC), inhibit lipid oxidation, and reduce the loss of soluble substances such as protein. Therefore, UPT thawing is a promising meat thawing technology, which provides practical guidance and methods for the wide application of UPT in the field of meat thawing.

BackgroundPost-traumatic stress disorder is an important psychological problem affecting the physical mental health of Chinese healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.AimsTo estimate the prevalence and influencing factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Chinese healthcare workers during COVID-19.MethodsSearch of Chinese and English literature in PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, Medline, Elsevier, SpringerLink, China Biomedical Literature Database, CNKI, Wan-fang, and CQVIP for the period from December 2019 to August 2023. Stata 14.0 software was used for data analysis. The methodological quality of each study was scored, and data were extracted from the published reports. Pooled prevalence was estimated using the Random-effects model. Publication bias was evaluated using Egger’s test and Begg’s test.ResultsTwenty-one studies included 11841 Chinese healthcare workers in this review. First, the overall prevalence of Post-traumatic stress disorder among Chinese healthcare workers during the COVID-19 epidemic was 29.2% (95% CI: 20.7% to 33.7%). Twelve factors included in the meta-analysis were found to be protective against PTSD among Chinese healthcare workers: female, nurse, married, front-line work, less work experience, family or friend diagnosed with COVID-19, history of chronic disease and fear of COVID-19. Conversely, outside Hubei, higher education, social support and psychological resilience are protective factors.ConclusionThese recent findings increase our understanding of the psychological status of Chinese healthcare workers and encourage that long-term monitoring and long-term interventions should be implemented to improve the mental health of Chinese healthcare workers in the aftermath of the COVID-19.

The drying characteristics, rehydration capacity, color, infrared spectra and volatile components of iron stick yam slices were investigated under different alternating current (AC) voltages (13, 17, 21 kV), hot air drying (HAD) (60 °C) and natural drying (AD) by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) drying and HAD experimental devices. The results showed that slices of iron stick yam dried the quickest with HAD, which also had the fastest drying rate; while drying the slices of iron stick yam with EHD led to a better rehydration capacity, higher brightness L* and whiteness, a more stable protein secondary structure, and a greater variety and content of volatile components compared with AD and HAD. These finding indicated that EHD is a more promising method for drying iron stick yam.

Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) drying, natural air drying (AD) and hot air drying (HAD) were used to comprehensively study the drying characteristics and physicochemical properties of garlic, and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and other technologies were used as detection methods. In terms of drying characteristics, HAD has the largest effective diffusion coefficient of moisture and the shortest average drying time. EHD-treated garlic slices had the most attractive color, the highest rehydration rate, the most stable cell structure, the highest content of active ingredients, and the most stable protein secondary structure. Therefore, electrohydrodynamic drying is a promising garlic slice drying technology and provides an effective method for the large-scale production of high-quality garlic.

Background: Passive immune agents play an important role in the prevention of rabies following exposure. This trial investigated the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of recombinant human monoclonal antibodies against rabies virus (rhRIG). Method: This clinical trial was conducted on healthy Chinese adults. The subjects were enrolled into three dosage groups. The safety of the drug was assessed, and the blood concentration of the monoclonal antibody (NM57) and the neutralizing antibody levels were measured. Results: The rhRIG presented favorable safety and tolerability.The subjects in the low(10 IU/kg), medium(20 IU/kg), and high(40 IU/kg) dosage groups reported the Cmax of 87.15 ± 18.86, 210.92 ± 77.5, and 394.11 ± 134.98 ng/ml, respectively, and the AUC0-t of 2115.8 ± 791.3, 6064 ± 1890, and 10735.6 ± 4090 ng/mL*d, and the T1/2 z of 15.82 ± 3.03, 15.96 ± 2.37, and 14.34 ± 3.84 d. The Tmax of neutralizing antibody levels in the serum was about 10d (5-14d). The detectable rate of neutralizing antibody levels in the medium dosage group was close to that in the high dosage group and higher than that in the low dosage group. Conclusions: The 10–40IU/kg rhRIG was well tolerated by the participants. The results of the pharmacokinetic analysis were consistent with the characteristics of linear elimination. The neutralizing antibody levels was positively correlated with the dosage of rhRIG.

Citrus is an important type of fruit, with antioxidant bioactivity. However, the variations in the antioxidant ability of different tissues in citrus and its metabolic and molecular basis remain unclear. Here, we assessed the antioxidant capacities of 12 tissues from Citrus reticulata ‘Ponkan’, finding that young leaves and root exhibited the strongest antioxidant capacity. Secondary metabolites accumulated differentially in parts of the citrus plant, of which flavonoids were enriched in stem, leaf, and flavedo; phenolic acids were enriched in the albedo, while coumarins were enriched in the root, potentially explaining the higher antioxidant capacities of these tissues. The spatially specific accumulation of metabolites was related to the expression levels of biosynthesis-related genes such as chalcone synthase (CHS), chalcone isomerase (CHI), flavone synthase (FNS), O-methyltransferase (OMT), flavonoid-3′-hydroxylase (F3′H), flavonoid-6/8-hydroxylase (F6/8H), p-coumaroyl CoA 2′-hydroxylase (C2′H), and prenyltransferase (PT), among others, in the phenylpropane pathway. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) identified modules associated with flavonoids and coumarin content, among which we identified an OMT involved in coumarin O-methylation, and related transcription factors were predicted. Our study identifies key genes and metabolites influencing the antioxidant capacity of citrus, which could contribute to the enhanced understanding and utilization of bioactive citrus components.

Due to the limitation that natural peroxidase enzymes can only function in relatively mild environments, nanozymes have expanded the application of enzymology in the biological field by dint of their ability to maintain catalytic oxidative activity in relatively harsh environments. At the same time, the development of new and highly efficient composite nanozymes has been a challenge due to the limitations of monometallic particles in applications and the inherently poor enzyme-mimetic activity of composite nanozymes. The inherent enzyme-mimicking activity is due to Au, Ag, and Pt, along with other transition metals. Moreover, the nanomaterials exhibit excellent enzyme-mimicking activity when composited with other materials. Therefore, this paper focuses on composite nanozymes with simulated peroxidase activity that have been prepared using noble metals such as Au, Ag, and Pt and other transition metal nanoparticles in recent years. Their simulated enzymatic activity is utilized for biomedical applications such as glucose detection, cancer cell detection and tumor treatment, and antibacterial applications.

Abstract Aluminum particles are of significant interest in enhancing the energy release performance of explosives. One of the major impediments to their use is that Al2O3 shell significantly decreases overall performance. To address this issue, we investigate creating aluminum particles with a glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) coating to improve their reactivity while retaining their energy content. We found that the aluminum particles were coated with a GAP layer of thickness around 8.5 nm. The coated aluminum particles were compared to non-coated powder by the corresponding reactivity parameters obtained from simultaneous differential scanning calorimetry, thermal gravimetric analysis, coupled with mass spectral and infrared spectral analyses. Besides, the comparison on the energy content was also conducted based on P–t tests and a laser-induced air shock from energetic materials (LASEM) technique. It was found that GAP shifted the oxidation onset of aluminum particles to a lower temperature by ~ 10 °C. Besides, the oxidation activation energy of aluminum particles was also reduced by ~ 15 kJ mol−1. In return, aluminum particles reduced the activation energy of the second stage decomposition of the GAP by 276 kJ mol−1. And due to the synergistic effect between aluminum and GAP, the decomposition products of GAP were prone to be oxycarbide species rather than carbonitride species. In addition, the P–t test showed the peak pressure and pressurization rate of GAP coated aluminum particles were separately 1.4 times and 1.9 times as large as those of non-coated aluminum particles. Furthermore, the LASEM experiment suggested the shock wave velocity of the GAP coated aluminum particles was larger than that of non-coated aluminum particles, and the largest velocity difference for them could be 0.6 km s−1. This study suggests after coating by GAP, the aluminum particles possess enhanced reaction performance, which shows potential application value in the fields of aluminized explosives and other energetic fields.

Urban Blue Spaces (UBS) have been found to be beneficial to people’s mental health. Yet, the empirical evidence for how and why different types of urban blue spaces could promote residents’ mental health is still limited. Accordingly, 164 observation samples were collected for this experiment relating to the restorative perception of environmental exposure. The effects of two exposure behaviors (15 min of viewing and 15 min of walking) on psychological recovery in three different urban blue spaces settings (Urban River, Urban Canal, Urban Lake) were investigated in a field experiment. These are the main findings of this current study: (1) all three UBSs increased vitality, feelings of restoration, and positive emotions, and decreased negative emotions; (2) the mental restoration effects between walking and viewing among the three UBSs showed no significant differences; (3) of the three UBSs, urban rivers and urban lakes were the most restorative, while urban canals were less so; (4) the concept of “natural health dose” is proposed, where the health experiences of different UBSs in urban settings can show differences depending on the natural components and their levels of the environment (blue, blue + green, blue + blue). The results of this experiment can provide fundamental evidence that can contribute to building healthy cities through the management and design of different blue spaces.

Numerous studies have indicated that proximity to nature positively affects human well-being. Landscape planning and related techniques have been widely implemented to achieve balance between natural environments and human society, thereby contributing to human well-being. This study examines peer-reviewed empirical research using scientometric analysis and systematic review to clarify how landscape planning enhances human well-being. On analysing 439 documents, we found a significant increase in publications by multidisciplinary teams in this research area from 2016 to date. There was an uneven global distribution of publications, with most institutions cooperating within the same continent. These findings suggest the potential for greater international collaboration in the future. We identified three main research topics in this field, traced their dynamic development, and highlighted intangible values requiring attention. Moreover, we proposed a loop of ‘naturalness-landscape structures-landscape services-human well-being’ which includes four intermediary steps to illustrate how landscape planning can improve human well-being. This loop clarifies the pathway between landscape planning approaches and human well-being, thus providing a foundation for future research. Overall, this research highlights the conceptual pathways of landscape planning in promoting human well-being and calls for further investigation to fully understand this complex relationship.

Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) has gained extensive attention as a reliable target for detecting small cell carcinoma of lungs. In this paper, an electrochemical immunoassay method based on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is proposed to detect NSE sensitively. By an in-situ growth method, MoS2 and Au nanoclusters (Au NCs) were composited to form a MoS2@Au nanozyme, and then the secondary antibodies were modified. Primary antibodies were immobilized on amino-reduced graphene oxides to capture NSE. The flower-like MoS2 nanozyme provided abundant sites to load Au NCs and catalyze the decomposition of H2O2, which were beneficial to amplify an amperometric response as well as build up sensitivity. Under optimum conditions, the detection range of this strategy was 0.1 pg·mL−1–10 ng·mL−1 and the limit of detection was 0.05 pg·mL−1. This sensing strategy achieved the prospect of sensitively detecting NSE. Moreover, the prepared electrochemical immunosensor provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the detection of other disease markers.

Abstract Aluminum can enhance heat release of energetic composite in theory. However, the commonly used micron aluminum powder has several short comings like incomplete reaction and low reaction rate. Meanwhile, outer oxide shell of nano Al particle is thicker than micro Al, which leads to low active aluminum content and insufficient heat release. On the basis of previous research, reported fluoropolymers modified Al particles were compared and suitable F2311was chosen. Sub-micron scale Al (median particle size around 200 nm) was regarded as optimum coated object in consideration of activity content of aluminum powder changing with particle size. The super fine Al powder was prepared by electrical explosion method, and encapsulated in situ by selected fluorine rubber F2311. The experiments on thermal stability demonstrated F2311 coating thickness should be no less than 3.6 nm. These results were further confirmed by EXPLO5 thermo dynamic calculation. Calculated results showed that reaction characters of F2311 encapsulated Al exceeded conventional nano Al regardless of combustion and explosion. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser particle size analyzer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to characterize coated products’ morphology, particle size distribution and interfacial bonding information. The results showed that the coated samples were generally spherical shape, with median particle size of 217.7 nm and coating thickness of 3.6 nm. The coating shell contained a small amount of alumina and aluminum fluoride besides fluoropolymer. The non-isothermal dynamic equations of Al/F2311 and Al/Al2O3 were deduced by TG/DSC simultaneous thermal analysis. Compared with conventional nano-Al, the apparent activation energy of Al/F2311 decreased by 45 kJ/mol and the first exothermic peak temperature was about 10 °C earlier. Moreover, heat release was nearly twice as conventional nano-Al. TG-DSC-MS coupled measurements certified that active Al was enveloped by ‘fluorine atmosphere’ while F2311 decomposed in range of 200–400 °C. Alumina was replaced with aluminum fluoride inside coating layer during 400–550 °C, which broadened the diffusion path and then accelerated the permeation of oxidizing gas. In addition, the exothermic of Al-F was obviously larger than Al-O. Consequently, the oxidation reaction was activated rapidly, especially in initial exothermic period. Fluoropolymer encapsulated sub-micron sized Al was a latent highly activity energetic fuel and a potential candidate for aluminum powder.

As an inflammatory marker, procalcitonin (PCT) is more representative than other traditional inflammatory markers. In this work, a highly efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor was constructed based on the photoactive material Bi2S3/Ag2S to realize the sensitive detection of PCT. Bi2S3 was prepared by a hydrothermal method, and Ag2S quantum dots were deposited on the ITO/Bi2S3 surface via in situ reduction. Bi2S3 is a kind of admirable photoelectric semiconductor nanomaterial on account of its moderate bandgap width and low binding rate of photogenerated electron holes, which can effectively convert light energy into electrical energy. Therefore, based on the energy level matching principle of Bi2S3 and Ag2S, a labeled Bi2S3/Ag2S PEC immunosensor was constructed, and the sensitive detection of PCT was successfully established. The linear detection range of the PEC immunosensor was 0.50 pg∙mL−1 to 50 ng∙mL−1, and the minimum detection limit was 0.18 pg∙mL−1. Compared with the traditional PEC strategy, the proposed PEC immunosensor is simple, convenient, and has good anti-interference, sensitivity, and specificity, which could provide a meaningful theoretical basis and reference value for the clinical detection of PCT.

In this study, to solve the problem of low activity of aluminum nanoparticles in combustion, aluminum nanoparticles were coated with 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (C8H18-Al), enabling the deactivation of aluminum nanoparticles to be effectively inhibited. The morphological characteristics, particle size distribution, chemical state, and thermal properties of C8H18-Al were characterized via SEM, TEM, DLS, XPS, and TG-DSC. The stability and energy performance of C8H18-Al were studied based on the national standard test method. The results showed that C8H18-Al had a typical shell–core structure with a smooth surface and good sphericity. The particle size was normally distributed, and the content of active aluminum nanoparticles was high (85.45%), with good thermal stability and a fast energy release rate (about four times that of ordinary nano aluminum particles). The results demonstrated that an in situ C8H18 coating is beneficial for the preparation of structurally stable aluminum nanoparticle composites with good performance.

Oil pollution in the ocean has been a great threaten to human health and the ecological environment, which has raised global concern. Therefore, it is of vital importance to develop simple and efficient techniques for oil–water separation. In this work, a facile and low-cost laser-heat surface treatment method was employed to fabricate superwetting copper (Cu) foam. Nanosecond laser surface texturing was first utilized to generate micro/nanostructures on the skeleton of Cu foam, which would exhibit superhydrophilicity/superoleophilicity. Subsequently, a post-process heat treatment would reduce the surface energy, thus altering the surface chemistry and the surface wettability would be converted to superhydrophobicity/superoleophilicity. With the opposite extreme wetting scenarios in terms of water and oil, the laser-heat treated Cu foam can be applied for oil–water separation and showed high separation efficiency and repeatability. This method can provide a simple and convenient avenue for oil–water separation.

Quantitative characterisation through mineral liberation analysis is required for effective minerals processing in areas such as mineral deposits, tailings and reservoirs in industries for resources, environment and materials science. Current practices in mineral liberation analysis are based on 2D representations, leading to systematic errors in the extrapolation to 3D volumetric properties. The rapid development of X-ray microcomputed tomography (μCT) opens new opportunities for 3D analysis of features such as particle- and grain-size characterisation, determination of particle densities and shape factors, estimation of mineral associations, and liberation and locking. To date, no simple non-destructive method exists for 3D mineral liberation analysis. We present a new development based on combining μCT with micro-X-ray fluorescence (μXRF) using deep learning. We demonstrate successful semi-automated multimodal analysis of a crystalline magmatic rock by obtaining 2D μXRF mineral maps from the top and bottom of the cylindrical core and propagating that information through the 3D μCT volume with deep learning segmentation. The deep learning model was able to segment the core to obtain reasonable mineral attributes. Additionally, the model overcame the challenge of differentiating minerals with similar densities in μCT, which would not be possible with conventional segmentation methods. The approach is universal and can be extended to any multimodal and multi-instrument analysis for further refinement. We conclude that the combination of μCT and μXRF can provide a new opportunity for robust 3D mineral liberation analysis in both field and laboratory applications.

Background: Feeding intolerance (FI) is a common condition in premature infants that results in growth retardation and even necrotizing enterocolitis. The gut microbiome is linked to FI occurrence; however, the outcome after FI recovery is unclear.Methods: Fecal samples were collected from 11 pairs of premature twins/triplets for 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Initial fecal samples were collected shortly after admission, and then every other week until 7 weeks or discharge.Results: After FI recovery, there was no significant difference in the β-diversity of the intestinal flora between the FI group and the feeding tolerance (FT) group. By contrast, there was a significant difference in the β-diversity. Proteobacteria was the predominant phylum in the microbiome of the FI group, whereas Firmicutes was the predominant phylum in the microbiome of the FT group. The predominant bacteria with LDA >4 between the two groups at 13–15 days after birth, 19–28 days after birth, and at discharge were different, with the proportions of Bacillus, Clostridium butyricum, and Clostridium being highest in the FT group and Firmicutes, unidentified_Clostridiales, and Proteobacteria being highest in the FI group. Similarly, there were significant differences in the relative abundances of KEGG pathways, such as fatty acid metabolism, DNA repair and recombination proteins, energy metabolism, and amino acid metabolism, between the two groups (P < 0.01).Conclusions: There was a significant difference in diversity of the intestinal flora after feeding intolerance recovery. Feeding intolerance may disturb the succession of the intestinal bacterial community.

Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) have been extremely popular in recent decades, owing to their superior properties. However, how to improve the surface functions and durability of BMGs has always been a key engineering issue. In this work, a facile laser-based surface structuring technique was developed for modulation and control of the surface functionalities of Zr-based BMG. For this technique, a laser beam was first irradiated on the surface to create periodic surface structure, followed by heat treatment to control surface chemistry. Through experimental analyses, it was clearly shown that laser surface structuring turned the BMG surface superhydrophilic, and subsequent heat treatment turned the surface superhydrophobic. We confirmed that the combination of laser-induced periodic surface structure and modified surface chemistry contributed to the wettability transition. The laser-heat-treated surface also exhibited improved antifriction performance with the help of lubrication medium. This work provides a feasible method for surface modification of BMG, suggesting applications in the areas of medicine, biology and microelectronics.

Bulk metallic glass (BMG) has received consistent attention from the research community owing to its superior physical and mechanical properties. Modulating and controlling the surface functionalities of BMG can be more interesting for the surface engineering community and will render more practical applications. In this work, a facile laser-based surface texturing technique is presented to modulate and control the surface functionalities (i.e., wettability and hardness) of Zr-based BMG. Laser surface texturing was first utilized to create periodic surface structures, and heat treatment was subsequently employed to control the surface chemistry. The experimental results indicate that the laser textured BMG surface became superhydrophilic immediately upon laser texturing, and it turned superhydrophobic after heat treatment. Through surface morphology and chemistry analyses, it was confirmed that the wettability transition could be ascribed to the combined effects of laser-induced periodic surface structure and controllable surface chemistry. In the meantime, the microhardness of the BMG surface has been remarkably increased as a result of laser surface texturing. The facile laser-based technique developed in this work has shown its effectiveness in modification and control of the surface functionalities for BMG, and it is expected to endow more useful applications.

Poly-arginines are strong tools to elevate the cellular uptake of nanopreparations. To learn the influence of poly-arginine (RRRRRRRR, R8) density on a series of properties of nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC), we build six R8 modified NLCs with different R8 densities (nR-NLC, where n represents the R8 ratio) by fusion–emulsion method with the aid of stearyl-R8. The pharmaceutical characteristics like size, zeta potential and in vitro drug release, cellular uptake, cytotoxicity to A549 cells and tissue distribution in S180 tumor-bearing mice of the six nR-NLCs are all investigated. It turns out that with as little as 2% weight ratio of stearyl-R8 modified on NLC, its pharmaceutical properties, especially zeta potential changes astonishingly; however, the stearyl-R8 ratio should be higher than 4% to upgrade the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity evidently; in the ex vivo tissue distribution assessment, the nR-NLC with less than 8% R8 showed similar tissue accumulation, while NLC with 10% R8 shows obvious acute toxicity to mice. Our study pays attention to the effect of the R8 ratio on the changes of cargo properties, and the results indicate that this topic is essential and worth to be further developed.

The aim of the present study was to develop a poly-arginine modified nanostructured lipid carrier (R-NLC) by fusion-emulsification method and to test its pharmaceutical characteristics. The influence of R-NLC on A549 cells like cellular uptake and cytotoxicity was also appraised using unmodified NLC as the controlled group. As the results revealed, R-NLC had an average diameter of about 40 nm and a positive zeta potential of about +17 mv, the entrapment efficiency decreased apparently, and no significant difference on the in vitro drug release was found after R8-modification. The cellular uptake and cytotoxicity increased obviously compared with unmodified NLC. The cellular uptake mechanisms of R-NLC involved energy, macropinocytosis, clathrin-mediated endocytosis, and caveolin-mediated endocytosis. The outcomes of the present study strongly support the theory that cell penetrating peptides have the ability of enhancing the cellular uptake of nanocarriers.

Aim'This study aims to establish an open-source algorithm using Python to analyze the accuracy of guided implantation, which simplifies interstudy comparisons.MethodsGiven ≥3 landmark pairs, this Tri-Point (TriP) method can register images. With ≥4 landmark pairs, TriP can calculate system errors for image registration. We selected 8 indicators from the literature. Considering development errors in new bone on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), we added the indicators of apical rectified deviation (ARD) and coronal rectified deviation (CRD), providing accurate references but neglecting depth deviations. Our program can calculate and output these indicators. To evaluate the TriP method's feasibility, an implantation group assisted by a Visual Direction-INdicating Guide (VDING) was analyzed. Accuracy was measured with the traditional and proposed TriP methods. Factors affecting the system error of the method were then analyzed.ResultsComparisons with paired-sample t-tests showed that our TriP method was similar to the traditional method in evaluating implantation accuracy, with no significant difference (P>0.05). The average system error was 0.30±0.10 mm when the TriP method evaluated the VDING template. The results showed that increasing the provided landmarks from 4 to 5 pairs decreased the between-group differences significantly (P0.05). Large distances between landmarks are helpful in reducing system error, as demonstrated with a geometric method.ConclusionsThis study established an open-source algorithm to analyze the accuracy of guided implantation with system errors reported.

Soil penetration is the most important process during soil tilling. To optimize the soil penetration process, six specimens were designed and fabricated based on the badger teeth outlines. Both experimental investigation and numerical analysis were conducted with three types of soil. Results showed the specimen C, B, and D got the lowest penetration force and reduced the force by 26.15%, 22.68%, and 25.86% compared with that of specimen A under soil 1, soil 2, and soil 3, respectively. Depth-force curve analysis showed that the bionic specimens can slow down the force increase rate by reducing the coefficient of the force-depth curve equations. The bionic specimens obtained a lower increase of internal friction angle and cohesion after penetration, indicating the soil strength after penetration was lower. Furthermore, the rise in soil surface was observed after the penetration, and the penetration with the bionic specimens got a higher rise. Simulation analysis showed that the mechanism for the force reduction was because the force direction was changed, which brought a better flowability and less strength for the soil. It concludes that the badger teeth outlines reduce the penetration force by changing the force directions and optimizing the soil properties. Based on research results, the optimal bionic curve for penetration in different types of soil was determined.
