The long term stability of three distinct types of YBa2Cu3O(sub 7-x)(YBCO)-based Josephson junctions was examined and compared. These junctions include the Co-doped barrier edge superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) junctions, noble-metal SNS step-edge junctions and bicrystal junctions. Experimental results show that all three types of YBCO-based Josephson junctions show degradation in junction characteristics. It was also found that the aging effect can be reduced if an appropriate passivation layer is used.
