Purpose: From 2018, the Schools Up North (SUN) programme worked with three remote Australian schools to enhance their capability and resilience to support the wellbeing and mental health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff. This paper explores the implementation of SUN during the first two years of COVID-19 (2020-2021). Method: Using grounded theory methods, school staff, other service providers and SUN facilitators were interviewed, with transcripts and programme documents coded and interrelationships between codes identified. An implementation model was developed. Results: The SUN approach was place-based, locally informed and relational, fostering school resilience through staff reflection on and response to emerging contextual challenges. Challenges were the: community lockdowns and school closures; (un)availability of other services; community uncertainty and anxiety; school staff capability and wellbeing; and risk of educational slippage. SUN strategies were: enhancing teachers' capabilities and resources, facilitating public health discussions, and advocating at regional level. Outcomes were: enhanced capability of school staff; greater school-community engagement; student belonging and engagement; a voice for advocacy; and continuity of SUN's momentum. Conclusions: The resilience approach (rather than specific strategies) was critical for building schools' capabilities for promoting students and staff wellbeing and provides an exemplar for remote schools globally.

APPA's Facilities Performance Indicators (FPI) Survey and Report has grown from 190 institutions to a survey reflecting the input of 225 institutions, another 36 institutions preparing to participate in the survey, and 150 institutions that participated in a customized utility consortium survey through a partnership between APPA and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC). History has shown that momentum around the survey will build as new resources and tools are embraced by APPA's members. Additionally, the Express/Detailed survey options built into the survey framework allows participants to choose their areas of interest to focus on. Finally, the new structure of the survey and report utilizes an Essential Questions format, which allows the ratios and performance indicators to reveal unique results for each institution. APPA also created a series of webinars and an FPI Advisor team to help assist institutions with the completion of the survey and interpretation of the report. A highly successful approach that has been employed is to reach out to those cohorts who have the desire to complete the survey and interpret the results together. This past year, the authors have worked extensively with 36 institutions of the University System of Georgia. The results of this initiative are presented in this article.

Objective: To examine the impact of a multi-component health assessment on mortality and morbidity in Kimberley Aboriginal residents during a 13-year follow-up. Method: A population-based randomised controlled trial using linked hospital, cancer and death records to evaluate outcomes in 620 intervention and 6,736 control subjects. Results: The intervention group had a higher rate of first-time hospitalisation for any reason (IRR=1.37; 95% CI 1.25-1.50), a higher rate of injury-related hospital episodes (IRR=1.31; 95% CI 1.15-1.48) and a higher notification rate of alcohol-related cancers. There was a smaller difference in the rates of multiple hospitalisations (IRR=1.14; 95% CI 0.75-1.74) and no improvement in overall mortality compared with controls (IRR=1.08; 95% CI 0.91-1.29). Conclusions: There was no overall mortality benefit despite increased health service contact associated with the intervention. Implications: Although not influencing mortality rates, multi-component health assessment may result in a period of increased health service use in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, thus constituting an 'intervention'. However, this should not be confused with systematic and sustained interventions and investment in community development to achieve better health outcomes.
