Abstract: Abstract The Monument experiment measures ordinary muon capture (OMC) on isotopes relevant for neutrinoless double-beta ( $$0\nu \beta \beta $$ 0 ν β β ) decay and nuclear astrophysics. OMC is a particularly attractive tool for improving the theoretical description of $$0\nu \beta \beta $$ 0 ν β β decay. It involves similar momentum transfers and allows testing the virtual transitions involved in $$0\nu \beta \beta $$ 0 ν β β decay against experimental data. During the 2021 campaign, Monument studied OMC on $$^{76}$$ 76 Se and $$^{136}$$ 136 Ba, the isotopes relevant for next-generation $$0\nu \beta \beta $$ 0 ν β β decay searches, like Legend and nEXO. The experimental setup has been designed to accurately extract the total and partial muon capture rates, which requires precise reconstruction of energies and time-dependent intensities of the OMC-related $$\gamma $$ γ rays. The setup also includes a veto counter system to allow selecting a clean sample of OMC events. This work provides a detailed description of the Monument setup operated during the 2021 campaign, its two DAQ systems, calibration and analysis approaches, and summarises the achieved detector performance. Future improvements are also discussed.

Abstract: Abstract Xenon dual-phase time projections chambers (TPCs) have proven to be a successful technology in studying physical phenomena that require low-background conditions. With $$40\,\textrm{t}$$ 40 t of liquid xenon (LXe) in the TPC baseline design, DARWIN will have a high sensitivity for the detection of particle dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay ( $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β ), and axion-like particles (ALPs). Although cosmic muons are a source of background that cannot be entirely eliminated, they may be greatly diminished by placing the detector deep underground. In this study, we used Monte Carlo simulations to model the cosmogenic background expected for the DARWIN observatory at four underground laboratories: Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) and SNOLAB. We present here the results of simulations performed to determine the production rate of $${}^{137}$$ 137 Xe, the most crucial isotope in the search for $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β of $${}^{136}$$ 136 Xe. Additionally, we explore the contribution that other muon-induced spallation products, such as other unstable xenon isotopes and tritium, may have on the cosmogenic background.

Abstract: Abstract This article describes the setup and performance of the near and far detectors in the Double Chooz experiment. The electron antineutrinos of the Chooz nuclear power plant were measured in two identically designed detectors with different average baselines of about 400 m and 1050 m from the two reactor cores. Over many years of data taking the neutrino signals were extracted from interactions in the detectors with the goal of measuring a fundamental parameter in the context of neutrino oscillation, the mixing angle $$\theta _{13}$$ θ 13 . The central part of the Double Chooz detectors was a main detector comprising four cylindrical volumes filled with organic liquids. From the inside towards the outside there were volumes containing gadolinium-loaded scintillator, gadolinium-free scintillator, a buffer oil and, optically separated, another liquid scintillator acting as veto system. Above this main detector an additional outer veto system using plastic scintillator strips was installed. The technologies developed in Double Chooz were inspiration for several other antineutrino detectors in the field. The detector design allowed implementation of efficient background rejection techniques including use of pulse shape information provided by the data acquisition system. The Double Chooz detectors featured remarkable stability, in particular for the detected photons, as well as high radiopurity of the detector components.

Abstract: Abstract A search for highly electrically charged objects (HECOs) and magnetic monopoles is presented using 2.2 $$\hbox {fb}{^{-1}}$$ fb - 1 of $$p-p$$ p - p collision data taken at a centre of mass energy (E $$_{CM}$$ CM ) of 8 TeV by the MoEDAL detector during LHC’s Run-1. The data were collected using MoEDAL’s prototype Nuclear Track Detectord array and the Trapping Detector array. The results are interpreted in terms of Drell–Yan pair production of stable HECO and monopole pairs with three spin hypotheses (0, 1/2 and 1). The search provides constraints on the direct production of magnetic monopoles carrying one to four Dirac magnetic charges and with mass limits ranging from 590 GeV/c $$^{2}$$ 2 to 1 TeV/c $$^{2}$$ 2 . Additionally, mass limits are placed on HECOs with charge in the range 10e to 180e, where e is the charge of an electron, for masses between 30 GeV/c $$^{2}$$ 2 and 1 TeV/c $$^{2}$$ 2 .

Abstract: Abstract We detail the sensitivity of the proposed liquid xenon DARWIN observatory to solar neutrinos via elastic electron scattering. We find that DARWIN will have the potential to measure the fluxes of five solar neutrino components: pp, $$^7$$ 7 Be, $$^{13}$$ 13 N, $$^{15}$$ 15 O and pep. The precision of the $$^{13}$$ 13 N, $$^{15}$$ 15 O and pep components is hindered by the double-beta decay of $$^{136}$$ 136 Xe and, thus, would benefit from a depleted target. A high-statistics observation of pp neutrinos would allow us to infer the values of the electroweak mixing angle, $$\sin ^2\theta _w$$ sin 2 θ w , and the electron-type neutrino survival probability, $$P_{ee}$$ P ee , in the electron recoil energy region from a few keV up to 200 keV for the first time, with relative precision of 5% and 4%, respectively, with 10 live years of data and a 30 tonne fiducial volume. An observation of pp and $$^7$$ 7 Be neutrinos would constrain the neutrino-inferred solar luminosity down to 0.2%. A combination of all flux measurements would distinguish between the high- (GS98) and low-metallicity (AGS09) solar models with 2.1–2.5 $$\sigma $$ σ significance, independent of external measurements from other experiments or a measurement of $$^8$$ 8 B neutrinos through coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering in DARWIN. Finally, we demonstrate that with a depleted target DARWIN may be sensitive to the neutrino capture process of $$^{131}$$ 131 Xe.

Abstract: This article highlights the trends and patterns of international cooperation and integration of small and medium-sized businesses by the example of the Stavropol territory (Russia), considers the participation of state bodies in international cooperation and exports. Management of the infrastructure of international cooperation and integration is characterized by low efficiency and is constrained by the lack of scientific and methodological support for these processes. The problem is that the existing needs of small and medium-sized businesses for infrastructure support for international cooperation and integration are unmet, while budget resources are spent on the development of those infrastructure components that are not in demand or can only bring practical benefits in combination with other components. Scientific novelty consists in the development of scientific and methodological recommendations for optimizing the management of international cooperation and integration of small and medium-sized businesses in the Stavropol territory.

Abstract: We update our previous search for trapped magnetic monopoles in LHC Run 2 using nearly six times more integrated luminosity and including additional models for the interpretation of the data. The MoEDAL forward trapping detector, comprising 222 kg of aluminium samples, was exposed to 2.11 fb−1 of 13 TeV proton–proton collisions near the LHCb interaction point and analysed by searching for induced persistent currents after passage through a superconducting magnetometer. Magnetic charges equal to the Dirac charge or above are excluded in all samples. The results are interpreted in Drell–Yan production models for monopoles with spins 0, 1/2 and 1: in addition to standard point-like couplings, we also consider couplings with momentum-dependent form factors. The search provides the best current laboratory constraints for monopoles with magnetic charges ranging from two to five times the Dirac charge.

9. CYTOKINE PROFILE OF Th1-, Th2- AND Th17-LYMPHOCYTE SUBPOPULATIONS IN INFECTIOUS MYOCARDITIS

Abstract: Background: Type 17 T-helpers (Th17) were first identified more than 10 years ago. Though, there are only limited studies on the role of Th17- mediated mechanisms in the immune pathogenesis of acute myocarditis and dilative cardiomyopathy. Aim: To assess specific cytokine profile in patients with infectious immune myocarditis and post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis. Materials and methods: 35 patients with infectious immune myocarditis, 39 patients with post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis and 10 healthy volunteers (control group) were enrolled. 17 subjects with infectious immune myocarditis had manifest heart failure. Mean concentrations of Th1-, Th2- and Th17-derived cytokines were measured using solid-phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay panel manufactured by VectorBest ZAO (Russia). For statistical analysis, PASW Statistics software was used. Results: Compared to healthy controls, patients with infectious immune myocarditis had higher serum interferon-gamma (IF-γ) concentrations and more than 3-fold increase of serum interleukin (IL)-4. They also had almost 7-fold increase of IL-17A and Th17 effector cytokines – IL-8 and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). Patients with infectious immune myocarditis and moderate or no symptoms of heart failure had significantly lower concentrations of IF-γ compared to patients with advanced heart failure. Cytokine concentrations peaked during the first 2 week of the disease, with following decrease. On the contrary, serum IL-4 grew significantly by the end of the first month and during the second month of the disease. Raised concentrations of IL-17A, IL-8 and GM-CSF were found throughout the period from the second week to the second month of the disease. Th17-derived cytokines concentrations were significantly increased in patients with post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis. Compared to the controls, IL-17A almost doubled, IL-8 increased by 51%, and GM-CSF – by 50%. Elevated concentrations of IL-4, IL-17A, IL-8 and GM-CSF were found in patients with duration of post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis less than 6 months. Conclusion: Disorders of anti-infective immunity and deficient self-limitation mechanisms of immune response play an important role in the development and progression of inflammatory myocardial diseases.

10. EFFECTS OF PHOTOHEMOTHERAPY ON THE CLINICAL COURSE OF BRONCHIAL ASTHMA

Abstract: Background: Anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory effects of photohemotherapy have been demonstrated in myocarditis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, some autoimmune and other disorders. There are only limited reports on the use of photohemotherapy in bronchial asthma (BA). Aim: To assess the influence of blue- and red-light photohemotherapy on clinical course of BA. Materials and methods: 480 hospitalized patients with persistent moderate BA and mild (44.5%) or moderate (55.5%) exacerbation were randomized to receive standard therapy of asthma exacerbation and photohemotherapy (treatment group, n=250) or standard therapy only (control group, n=230). Blue-light photohemotherapy (photodiode apparatus Solaris, n=220) or redlight photohemotherapy (helium-neon gas laser, n=30) was applied according to the schedule: procedure duration – 30 minutes, number of sessions – 5–7, every 2–3 days. Results: In asthma exacerbation, adding photohemotherapy to standard treatment was associated with more rapid improvement of clinical symptoms: maximal total asthma scores were achieved by the day 7–10 in patients with mild exacerbation and by the day 10–14 in patients with moderate exacerbation. Therapeutic effects of blue-light photohemotherapy were superior to those of red-light photohemotherapy. The data of 3-year follow-up supported the role of photohemotherapy in achieving asthma control: in the treatment group, proportion of patients with total control of asthma was 1.3-fold higher and one-year hospitalization number was lower by 34.8% compared with the controls. Conclusion: Blue-light and red-light photohemotherapy positively influences the clinical course of asthma and is associated with faster remission achievement and reduction of duration and frequency of hospitalizations.

Abstract: Background: Blood rheology abnormalities are recognized as one of the main pathophysiological components of bronchial asthma. Standard medical treatment of bronchial asthma does not exert any substantial effect on blood fluidity. Aim: To assess efficacy of quantum haemotherapy and its influence on blood rheology in the combination treatment of bronchial asthma.Materials and methods: Four hundred and eighty patients admitted to our in-patient department with mild (44.5%) and severe (55.5%) exacerbations of persistent moderate asthma, were randomized into two groups: the main group (n = 250), which, along with conventional treatment, received photohaemotherapy with blue (PHB, n = 220) or red (PHR, n = 30) light, and the control group (n = 230), which received conventional treatment for two weeks. PHB (light-emitting diode devise “Solaris”) and PHR (helium neon laser) was performed according to the following regimen: duration of a session 30 minutes, number of sessions, from 5 to 7 with in-between intervals of 2 to 3 days. The degree of erythrocyte deformation, relative membrane charge and relative gradient membrane potential of erythrocytes, total erythrocyte counts, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, and blood viscosity were assessed at days 1 and 14, as well as after 3 months.Results: At day 14, the relative gradient membrane potential of erythrocytes decreased to 0.118 ± 0.01 r.u. in the PHB group, to 0.167 ± 0.01 r.u. in the PHR group, and to 0.153 ± 0.01 r.u. in the conventional treatment group. The relative charge of erythrocyte membranes increased to 0.202 ± 0.07, 0.19 ± 0.07 and 0.14 ± 0.07 r.u., the degree of erythrocyte deformation decreased to 1.4 ± 0.1, 1.6 ± 0.1 and 1.9 ± 0.1 scores, the degree of hypoxic anisotropy of the serum decreased to 0.8, 0.9 and 1.2 scores, respectively (in all cases, p < 0.05 for comparison with baseline values). However, a significant difference of all parameters from the normal range persisted (p < 0.001). No significant changes of hemoglobin and total erythrocyte counts were observed during the whole follow up period. At the end of the photohaemotherapy course, blood viscosity in the PHB group decreased to 4.55 ± 0.11 mPa·s (from the baseline value of 5.04 ± 0.13 mPa·s, p < 0.05), and was close to normal range (4.5 ± 0.3 mPa·s). In the conventionally treated group, blood viscosity was not changed (5.41 ± 0.11 mPa·s before treatment and 5.39 ± 0.12 mPa·s thereafter, p > 0.05). At month 3, all patients, despite their clinical well-being, demonstrated a deterioration of the parameters studies. However, only in the conventionally treated group the degree of this deterioration was compatible with parameters registered during an asthma exacerbation.Conclusion: Blood rheology parameters demonstrated a more rapid and advanced improvement in patients with exacerbations of bronchial asthma, who were treated with the use of photohaemotherapy, compared to those who received conventional treatment only.

Abstract: Background: Autoantibodies to myocardial antigenic epitopes and corresponding autoreactive T cell clones play an important role in myocardial damage and in pathogenesis of infectious immune myocarditis. T lymphocytes subpopulations/regulatory T cells balance as well as T cell-derived cytokines are crucial in the mechanisms of immune regulation in myocarditis. Aim: To assess quantitative parameters and functional characteristics of basic peripheral blood lymphocytes subpopulations in patients with infectious immune myocarditis and post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis. Material and methods: 35 patients with infectious immune myocarditis and 39 patients with post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis were included. Among infectious immune myocarditis patients, 17 patients had advanced congestive heart failure (CHF) (NYHA III), and 18 patients had mild, moderate or no heart failure (NYHA 0-II). Among cardiosclerosis patients, 18 patients had no CHF, and 21 had only mild symptoms of heart failure (NYHA I). 10 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the control group. Populations and subpopulations of peripheral blood lymphocytes and markers of lymphocytes activation were studied using quadricolor laser flow cytometry (FACSCalibur) and suitable monoclonal antibodies (Becton Dickinson, USA). Results: Inflammatory myocardial diseases are characterized by alterations of innate and adaptive immunity. In our study, patients with infectious immune myocarditis and post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis had significantly reduced numbers of natural killer T cells irrespective of CHF symptoms and disease duration. T cell immunity disturbances were characterized by decreased numbers of CD3+CD4+ cells depending from the disease duration and symptoms severity. Patients with infectious immune myocarditis also had increased numbers of B cells. Immune activation was demonstrated both in infectious immune myocarditis and (less prominent) in post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis. Increased expression of early activation marker CD25 was found during the first 2 weeks from the disease onset in patients with infectious immune myocarditis. In 1 month and during the second month of the disease, increased numbers of T cells and non-T lymphocytes were demonstrated along with late activation manifested by the expression of HLA-DR antigen. Different severity of CHF symptoms was associated with different patterns of activation markers. Increased expression of apoptosis marker CD95 was found in both infectious immune myocarditis and post-myocarditis cardiosclerosis; maximal CD95 values were demonstrated in myocarditis patients in 1 month after the disease onset. Conclusion: Disturbances of anti-infection immunity and self-limitation mechanisms of immune reactions play an important role in the development and progression of inflammatory myocardial diseases.

Abstract: Background: Photohemotherapy combined with conventional therapy can increase the treatment efficacy in asthma. However, the influence of quantumhemotherapy on pathogenetic mechanisms of the disease has been poorly studied.Aim: To evaluate the influence of blue and red light hemotherapy on blood immunological parаmeters in asthma patients.Materials and methods: Four hundred and eighty patients admitted to the in-patient department with mild (44.5%) and severe (55.5%) exacerbations of persistent moderate asthma, were randomized into two groups: the main group (n = 250), which, along with conventional treatment, received photohemotherapy with blue (n = 220) or red (n = 30) light, and the control group (n = 230), which received conventional treatment only. Before and after treatment, immunological assessments were performed that included phenotyping of the lymphocyte subpopulations (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD19, CD56), assessment of phagocytal activity of leukocytes, measurement of circulating immune complexes (CIC) and immunoglobulin levels (IgE, IgG, IgM and IgA).Results: After combined treatment, compared to baseline values, patients from the main group had a significant increase in СD3+-lymphocytes (from 32.34 ± 2.28 to 60.73 ± 0.67%) and their immunoregulatory subpopulations – СD4+-helpers (from 17.94 ± 2.01 to 38.55 ± 0.72%) and СD8+- suppressors (from 17.38 ± 1.98 to 27.6 ± 0.48%), as well as a trend towards a decrease in СD16+-killers (from 24.55 ± 0.43 to 16.65 ± 0.37%) and an increase in СD19+ В-cells (from 25.12 ± 1.12 to 27.15 ± 0.45%), a decrease of IgE (from 68.3 ± 0.51 to 60.2 ± 0.61%) and CIC (from 54.5 ± 1.22 to 40.3 ± 0.12%). In the control group, there was a trend towards a decrease of СD3+-lymphocytes (59.83 ± 0.7 and 59.27 ± 0.715%) and СD4+-helpers (38.8 ± 0.5 and 38.41 ± 0.64%), normal counts of СD8+-suppressors (28.12 ± 0.58%), and a trend towards a decrease in СD16+-killers (28.2 ± 0.6 and 26.0 ± 0.57%) and an increase in СD19+ В-cells (29.22 ± 0.6 and 29.47 ± 0.58%), a decrease of IgE (68.8 ± 0.91 and 55.2 ± 0.55%) and CIC levels (49.2 ± 0.9 and 45.3 ± 1.05%, respectively). Analysis of cytokine profiles after conventional treatment showed a non-significant decrease in mean levels of allergic inflammatory interleukins (IL) (from 90.5 to 88.3 pg/mL for IL4 and from 68.25 to 67.4 pg/mL for IL5), as well as a non-significant increase in mean concentrations of infectious inflammatory cytokines (from 1.81 to 1.85 pg/mL for IL10 and from 3.72 to 3.89 pg/mL for IFNγ). The use of photohemotherapy led to a decrease in abnormally high IL4 levels almost to the normal (68.55 pg/mL) and to a trend to a decrease in IL5 levels (42.1 pg/mL). Also, there was a significant increase in IL10 (3.91 pg/mL) and IFNγ (5.23 pg/mL) levels to above their baseline values. In patients with severe asthma, a significantly decreased IgM levels were found, both before and after the course of blue light photohemotherapy (0.97 ± 0.1 and 0.89 ± 0.2 g/L, respectively). After treatment, serum IgG levels increased significantly in patients with moderate asthma, compared to baseline (18.3 ± 2.7 and 11.54 ± 0.8 g/L), whereas initially high levels in patients with severe asthma became normal (15.9 ± 4.8 and 18.3 ± 2.7 g/L, respectively).Conclusion: The use of photohemotherapy exerts marked positive effect on blood immunological parameters in asthma patients. The use of blue light is more effective, compared to red light photohemotherapy.

Abstract: Electrically charged particles can be created by the decay of strong enough electric fields, a phenomenon known as the Schwinger mechanism1. By electromagnetic duality, a sufficiently strong magnetic field would similarly produce magnetic monopoles, if they exist2. Magnetic monopoles are hypothetical fundamental particles that are predicted by several theories beyond the standard model3-7 but have never been experimentally detected. Searching for the existence of magnetic monopoles via the Schwinger mechanism has not yet been attempted, but it is advantageous, owing to the possibility of calculating its rate through semi-classical techniques without perturbation theory, as well as that the production of the magnetic monopoles should be enhanced by their finite size8,9 and strong coupling to photons2,10. Here we present a search for magnetic monopole production by the Schwinger mechanism in Pb-Pb heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, producing the strongest known magnetic fields in the current Universe11. It was conducted by the MoEDAL experiment, whose trapping detectors were exposed to 0.235 per nanobarn, or approximately 1.8 × 109, of Pb-Pb collisions with 5.02-teraelectronvolt center-of-mass energy per collision in November 2018. A superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer scanned the trapping detectors of MoEDAL for the presence of magnetic charge, which would induce a persistent current in the SQUID. Magnetic monopoles with integer Dirac charges of 1, 2 and 3 and masses up to 75 gigaelectronvolts per speed of light squared were excluded by the analysis at the 95% confidence level. This provides a lower mass limit for finite-size magnetic monopoles from a collider search and greatly extends previous mass bounds.

Double beta detectors are large and expensive, so background reduction is essential for extracting the highest sensitivity. The identification, or 'tagging', of the $^{136}$Ba daughter atom from double beta decay of $^{136}$Xe provides a technique for eliminating backgrounds in the nEXO neutrinoless double beta decay experiment. The tagging scheme studied in this work utilizes a cryogenic probe to trap the barium atom in solid xenon, where the barium atom is tagged via fluorescence imaging in the solid xenon matrix. Here we demonstrate imaging and counting of individual atoms of barium in solid xenon by scanning a focused laser across a solid xenon matrix deposited on a sapphire window. When the laser sits on an individual atom, the fluorescence persists for $\sim$30~s before dropping abruptly to the background level, a clear confirmation of one-atom imaging. No barium fluorescence persists following evaporation of a barium deposit to a limit of $\leq$0.16\%. This is the first time that single atoms have been imaged in solid noble element. It establishes the basic principle of a barium tagging technique for nEXO.

Abstract: The EXO-200 experiment searched for neutrinoless double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe with a single-phase liquid xenon detector. It used an active mass of 110 kg of 80.6%-enriched liquid xenon in an ultra-low background time projection chamber with ionization and scintillation detection and readout. This paper describes the design and performance of the various support systems necessary for detector operation, including cryogenics, xenon handling, and controls. Abstract: Silicon photomultipliers are regarded as a very promising technology for next-generation, cutting-edge detectors for low-background experiments in particle physics. This work presents systematic reflectivity studies of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) and other samples in liquid xenon at vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) wavelengths. A dedicated setup at the University of M\"unster has been used that allows to acquire angle-resolved reflection measurements of various samples immersed in liquid xenon with 0.45{\deg} angular resolution. Four samples are investigated in this work: one Hamamatsu VUV4 SiPM, one FBK VUV-HD SiPM, one FBK wafer sample and one Large-Area Avalanche Photodiode (LA-APD) from EXO-200. The reflectivity is determined to be 25-36% at an angle of incidence of 20{\deg} for the four samples and increases to up to 65% at 70{\deg} for the LA-APD and the FBK samples. The Hamamatsu VUV4 SiPM shows a decline with increasing angle of incidence. The reflectivity results will be incorporated in upcoming light response simulations of the nEXO detector., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: Purpose: Infrastructure support determines the fundamental possibility of international cooperation and integration, the availability of options for the development of these processes, the ability and conditions for the participation of business entities in them. Special attention should be paid to small and medium-sized businesses that are most dependent on infrastructure support and need increased state support. The study aims to identify areas for modernizing the infrastructure of international cooperation and exports in order to improve the quality of the regulatory framework for enhancing the foreign economic activity of small and medium-sized businesses in the form of international cooperation and integration. Design/methodology/approach: Existing gaps in the scientific and methodological support for the management of international cooperation and integration processes hinder their practical application and reduce their effectiveness. It is advisable to develop forms of strategic partnership in the process of foreign economic activity of small and medium-sized businesses on the basis of infrastructure modernization. Findings: The development of international cooperation and integration processes is hindered by the existence of serious barriers to the involvement of small and medium-sized businesses. The probable cause of these barriers is the imperfection of the established practice of state management of international cooperation and integration of small and medium-sized businesses in modern Russia. In this regard, the research was aimed at developing a practical algorithm for managing the process of international cooperation and integration of small and medium-sized businesses based on the modernization of infrastructure support. Originality/value: The presented measures to modernize the infrastructure for managing the processes of international cooperation and integration make it possible to form a common and universal management base and improve the quality of the regulatory environment for small and medium-sized businesses.

Abstract: We report on a comparison between the theoretically predicted and experimentally measured spectra of the first-forbidden nonunique β-decay transition ^{137}Xe(7/2^{-})→^{137}Cs(7/2^{+}). The experimental data were acquired by the EXO-200 experiment during a deployment of an AmBe neutron source. The ultralow background environment of EXO-200, together with dedicated source deployment and analysis procedures, allowed for collection of a pure sample of the decays, with an estimated signal to background ratio of more than 99 to 1 in the energy range from 1075 to 4175 keV. In addition to providing a rare and accurate measurement of the first-forbidden nonunique β-decay shape, this work constitutes a novel test of the calculated electron spectral shapes in the context of the reactor antineutrino anomaly and spectral bump.

Abstract: It is known that neurotic disorders can be independent risk factors for the development of complications in patients with cardiovascular diseases. This requires the creation of new rehabilitation programs that include not only medicines but also physiotherapy. To this end, an analysis was made of the effect of complex treatment, including visual color impulse therapy, on the psychoemotional state of 80 patients with cardiovascular diseases, hypertensive disease and coronary heart disease, who also have asthenic-depressive symptoms. In this case, patients in two control groups received standard drug therapy, and in the two main groups received additional color pulse therapy from the «Mellon» apparatus. Dynamics of the psychoemotional state of patients was studied with the help of a test that determines the quantitative changes in the state of health, activity and mood, as well as the stress index that characterizes the regulation of the heart rhythm under stress. Prior to the start of treatment, functional disintegration of regulatory mechanisms was characteristic for all patients, which was accompanied by psychoemotional disorders that indirectly reflected the state of highly organized nervous processes in the cerebral cortex, which altered the values of SI stress index indicators and the «well-being, activity, mood» test. The regression statistical analysis was used in this work. As a result, the indications and contraindications to the use of this method of treatment were determined. After the course of complex treatment, including drug and visual color impulse therapy, positive dynamics in the patients’ state was revealed, which indicates an increase in the functional capabilities of their body, and also, given the good tolerability of visual color impulse therapy, the feasibility of including this method in complex treatment at any stage of rehabilitation.

Abstract: The article presents the results of the application of photochemotherapy for the combined rehabilitation treatment of the patients suffering from bronchial asthma. The assessment of the effectiveness and the impact of this treatment was made on the basis of changes of the indicators of blood rheology as one of the components of pathogenesis of this disease with due regard for the signs and symptoms characterizing the clinical course of this condition. It has been demonstrated that 74 patients presenting with bronchial asthma experienced the statistically significant restoration of the altered rheological parameters of blood and the general improvement of the clinical course of the disease under the influence of photochemotherapy in comparison with the results of the baseline treatment obtained in the remaining 42 patients. The effect of optical radiation of blue and red light on the clinical course of bronchial asthma was more pronounced than that of the conventional treatment. The two therapeutic modalities were virtually identical when evaluated based on the effectiveness criteria, but differed in terms of the mechanism of action on the body.

Abstract: The MoEDAL trapping detector, consists of approximately 800 kg of aluminium volumes. It was exposed during Run-2 of the LHC program to 6.46 fb^-1 of 13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHCb interaction point. Evidence for dyons (particles with electric and magnetic charge) captured in the trapping detector was sought by passing the aluminium volumes comprising the detector through a SQUID magnetometer. The presence of a trapped dyon would be signalled by a persistent current induced in the SQUID magnetometer. On the basis of a Drell-Yan production model, we exclude dyons with a magnetic charge ranging up to 5 Dirac charges, and an electric charge up to 200 times the fundamental electric charge for mass limits in the range 790 - 3130 GeV., arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1903.08491

Abstract: We detail the sensitivity of the liquid xenon (LXe) DARWIN observatory to solar neutrinos via elastic electron scattering. We find that DARWIN will have the potential to measure the fluxes of five solar neutrino components: $pp$, $^7$Be, $^{13}$N, $^{15}$O and $pep$. The precision of the $^{13}$N, $^{15}$O and $pep$ components is hindered by the double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe and, thus, would benefit from a depleted target. A high-statistics observation of $pp$ neutrinos would allow us to infer the values of the weak mixing angle, $\sin^2\theta_w$, and the electron-type neutrino survival probability, $P_e$, in the electron recoil energy region from a few keV up to 200 keV for the first time, with relative precision of 5% and 4%, respectively, at an exposure of 300 ty. An observation of $pp$ and $^7$Be neutrinos would constrain the neutrino-inferred solar luminosity down to 0.2%. A combination of all flux measurements would distinguish between the high (GS98) and low metallicity (AGS09) solar models with 2.1-2.5$\sigma$ significance, independent of external measurements from other experiments or a measurement of $^8$B neutrinos through coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering in DARWIN. Abstract: nEXO is a proposed tonne-scale neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) experiment using liquid ${}^{136}Xe$ (LXe) in a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) to read out ionization and scintillation signals. Between the field cage and the LXe vessel, a layer of LXe ("skin" LXe) is present, where no ionization signal is collected. Only scintillation photons are detected, owing to the lack of optical barrier around the field cage. In this work, we show that the light originating in the skin LXe region can be used to improve background discrimination by 5% over previous published estimates. This improvement comes from two elements. First, a fraction of the $\gamma$-ray background is removed by identifying light from interactions with an energy deposition in the skin LXe. Second, background from ${}^{222}Rn$ dissolved in the skin LXe can be efficiently rejected by tagging the $\alpha$ decay in the ${}^{214}Bi-{}^{214}Po$ chain in the skin LXe., Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures

Abstract: Measurements of electron drift properties in liquid and gaseous xenon are reported. The electrons are generated by the photoelectric effect in a semi-transparent gold photocathode driven in transmission mode with a pulsed ultraviolet laser. The charges drift and diffuse in a small chamber at various electric fields and a fixed drift distance of 2.0 cm. At an electric field of 0.5 kV/cm, the measured drift velocities and corresponding temperature coefficients respectively are 1 . 97 ± 0 . 04 m m ∕ μ s and ( − 0 . 69 ± 0 . 05 ) %/K for liquid xenon, and 1 . 42 ± 0 . 03 m m ∕ μ s and ( + 0 . 11 ± 0 . 01 ) %/K for gaseous xenon at 1.5 bar. In addition, we measure longitudinal diffusion coefficients of 25 . 7 ± 4 . 6 cm 2 /s and 149 ± 23 cm 2 /s, for liquid and gas, respectively. The quantum efficiency of the gold photocathode is studied at the photon energy of 4.73 eV in liquid and gaseous xenon, and vacuum. These charge transport properties and the behavior of photocathodes in a xenon environment are important in designing and calibrating future large scale noble liquid detectors.

Abstract: The study deals with topical issues affecting the sphere of influence of media texts on mass consciousness within the information economy during the development of post-industrial society. It analyzes the features of PR-media texts aimed at creating the image of an organization which has a multi-component structure. The paper uses a cognitive approach based on the theoretical and methodological basis of research conducted by foreign and domestic scientists, to identify the most typical conceptual metaphors of different types in the structure of media texts of image character. The arguments confirming the value of cognitive approach in the process of the company’s image formation to determine the factors that have a key impact on the formation of stable concepts of a particular company and the creation of a certain assessment and attitude to its activities. As a result of the study of image PR-texts, it is concluded that the cognitive structure of the company’s image is a blended space, including frames and slots with significant and typical information about the particular features of the organization, having stable relationships that arise between them that allows to consider it as a dynamic process, on the one hand, and to choose the most effective cognitive strategies for creating texts of this genre on the other.

Abstract: A search for neutrinoless double-beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) in $^{136}$Xe is performed with the full EXO-200 dataset using a deep neural network to discriminate between $0\nu\beta\beta$ and background events. Relative to previous analyses, the signal detection efficiency has been raised from 80.8% to 96.4$\pm$3.0% and the energy resolution of the detector at the Q-value of $^{136}$Xe $0\nu\beta\beta$ has been improved from $\sigma/E=1.23\%$ to $1.15\pm0.02\%$ with the upgraded detector. Accounting for the new data, the median 90% confidence level $0\nu\beta\beta$ half-life sensitivity for this analysis is $5.0 \cdot 10^{25}$ yr with a total $^{136}$Xe exposure of 234.1 kg$\cdot$yr. Abstract: Myocarditis is one of the most urgent and in many respects unresolved problems in cardiology. The situation is further aggravated by the ever increasing incidence of the of disease. The lack of knowledge about myocarditis etiology and pathogenesis creates a number of difficulties for the choice of the adequate treatment strategies.The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of quantum photohemotherapy (PHT) with the use of a blue light in the combined treatment of infectious-allergic myocarditis (IAM).We examined a total of 28 patients including 12 women and 16 men at the age from 16 to 45 years suffering from IAM. The diagnosis of IAM was confirmed clinically, biochemically, and functionally with the application of the blood tests, chest X-ray examination, echo- and electro-cardiography. We used the classification of N.R. Paleev and M.A. Gurevich for myocarditis diagnostics. The diagnosis of ischemic heart disease was excluded according to the WHO criteria. The degree of heart failure in the patients was assessed based on the NYHA classification criteria. All the patients were given therapy with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, metabolic drugs, anti-arrhythmics, diuretics, and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors. In addition, the generally accepted methods for the characteristic of blood rheological properties were employed. Moreover, the universally recognized rehabilitative and therapeutic measures were supplemented by blue light PHT using an AFS-Solaris light-emitting diode for intravascular irradiation of blood through the disposable light guides.The study has demonstrated that IAM was accompanied by a number of hemorheological disorders that collectively make up a component of pathogenesis of the condition in question. The application of blue light PHT for the combined treatment of the patients with IAM led to the improvement in their rheological status and peripheral blood characteristics.Various hemorheological disorders were diagnosed in the patients suffering from infectious-allergic myocarditis. The main effect of blood viscosity reduction documented in the patients with IAM under the influence of blue light PHT was attributable to the reduction in hematocrit decreasing and suppression of the erythrocytes aggregation activity.Введение. Миокардиты представляют собой одну из актуальных и все еще во многом не решенных проблем кардиологии. Актуальность этой проблемы усугубляется ростом заболеваемости. Недостаточность изученности этиологии и патогенеза миокардитов вызывает ряд затруднений в выборе методов их лечения. Цель исследования - изучить эффективность применения фотогемотерапии (ФГТ) синим светом в комплексном лечении инфекционно-аллергического миокардита (ИАМ). Материал и методы. Под наблюдением находились 28 больных - 12 женщин и 16 мужчин в возрасте от 16 до 45 лет, страдающих ИАМ. Диагноз ИАМ был подтвержден клинически, биохимически и функционально с помощью анализов крови, рентгенологического исследования органов грудной клетки, электро- и эхокардиографии. При постановке диагноза миокардита использовали классификацию Н.Р. Палеева и М.А. Гуревича. Диагноз ишемической болезни сердца исключали по критериям, рекомендованным Всемирной организацией здравоохранения. Степень сердечной недостаточности у больных оценивали по критериям классификации NYHA. Больные получали терапию с применением нестероидных противовоспалительных препаратов, мочегонных и метаболических средств, антиаритмиков, ингибиторов ангиотензинпревращающего фермента. Использовали комплекс общепринятых методов оценки реологических свойств крови. В плане восстановительно-лечебных мероприятий на фоне общепринятой терапии проводили ФГТ синим светом с помощью светодиодного аппарата АФС-Соларис для внутрисосудистого облучения крови через одноразовые световоды. Результаты. Установлено, что ИАМ сопровождается комплексом гемореологических расстройств, представляющих собой одно из звеньев патогенеза данного заболевания. Применение ФГТ синим светом в комплексном лечении больных ИАМ приводило к улучшению их реологического статуса и параметров периферической крови. Заключение. У больных, страдающих ИАМ, выявлены гемореологические нарушения. Основной эффект снижения вязкости крови у больных ИАМ при воздействии ФГТ синим светом происходил за счет уменьшения показателя гематокрита и угнетения агрегационной активности эритроцитов.

Abstract: In this paper we report on the characterization of the Hamamatsu VUV4 (S/N: S13370-6152) Vacuum Ultra-Violet (VUV) sensitive Multi-Pixel Photon Counters (MPPC)s as part of the development of a solution for the detection of liquid xenon scintillation light for the nEXO experiment. Various MPPC features, such as: dark noise, gain, correlated avalanches, direct crosstalk and Photon Detection Efficiency (PDE) were measured in a dedicated setup at TRIUMF. MPPCs were characterized in the range 163 K ≤ T ≤ 233 K . At an over voltage of 3 . 1 ± 0 . 2 V and at T = 163 K we report a number of Correlated Avalanches (CAs) per pulse in the 1 μ s interval following the trigger pulse of 0 . 161 ± 0 . 005 . At the same settings the Dark-Noise (DN) rate is 0 . 137 ± 0 . 002 Hz/mm 2 . Both the number of CAs and the DN rate are within nEXO specifications. The PDE of the Hamamatsu VUV4 was measured for two different devices at T = 233 K for a mean wavelength of 189 ± 7 nm . At 3 . 6 ± 0 . 2 V and 3 . 5 ± 0 . 2 V of over voltage we report a PDE of 13 . 4 ± 2 . 6 % and 11 ± 2 % , corresponding to a saturation PDE of 14 . 8 ± 2 . 8 % and 12 . 2 ± 2 . 3 % , respectively. Both values are well below the 24 % saturation PDE advertised by Hamamatsu. More generally, the second device tested at 3 . 5 ± 0 . 2 V of over voltage is below the nEXO PDE requirement. The first one instead yields a PDE that is marginally close to meeting the nEXO specifications. This suggests that with modest improvements the Hamamatsu VUV4 MPPCs could be considered as an alternative to the FBK-LF Silicon Photo-Multipliers for the final design of the nEXO detector.

Abstract: Characterization of the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) reflectance of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) is important for large-scale SiPM-based photodetector systems. We report the angular dependence of the specular reflectance in a vacuum of SiPMs manufactured by Fondazionc Bruno Kessler (FBK) and Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. (HPK) over wavelengths ranging from 120 nm to 280 nm. Refractive index and extinction coefficient of the thin silicon-dioxide film deposited on the surface of the FBK SiPMs are derived from reflectance data of a FBK silicon wafer with the same deposited oxide film as SiPMs. The diffuse reflectance of SiPMs is also measured at 193 nm. We use the VUV spectral dependence of the optical constants to predict the reflectance of the FBK silicon wafer and FBK SiPMs in liquid xenon.

Abstract: nEXO is a proposed experiment to search for the neutrino-less double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) of $^{136}$Xe in a tonne-scale liquid xenon time projection chamber (TPC). The nEXO TPC will be equipped with charge collection tiles to form the anode. In this work, the charge reconstruction performance of this anode design is studied with a dedicated simulation package. A multi-variate method and a deep neural network are developed to distinguish simulated $0\nu\beta\beta$ signals from backgrounds arising from trace levels of natural radioactivity in the detector materials. These simulations indicate that the nEXO TPC with charge-collection tiles shows promising capability to discriminate the $0\nu\beta\beta$ signal from backgrounds. The estimated half-life sensitivity for $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay is improved by $\sim$20$~(32)\%$ with the multi-variate~(deep neural network) methods considered here, relative to the sensitivity estimated in the nEXO pre-conceptual design report.

Abstract: Understanding reflective properties of materials and photodetection efficiency (PDE) of photodetectors is important for optimizing energy resolution and sensitivity of the next generation neutrinoless double beta decay, direct detection dark matter, and neutrino oscillation experiments that will use noble liquid gases, such as nEXO, DARWIN, DarkSide-20k, and DUNE. Little information is currently available about reflectivity and PDE in liquid noble gases, because such measurements are difficult to conduct in a cryogenic environment and at short enough wavelengths. Here we report a measurement of specular reflectivity and relative PDE of Hamamatsu VUV4 silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) with 50 micrometer micro-cells conducted with xenon scintillation light (~175 nm) in liquid xenon. The specular reflectivity at 15 deg. incidence of three samples of VUV4 SiPMs is found to be 30.4+/-1.4%, 28.6+/-1.3%, and 28.0+/-1.3%, respectively. The PDE at normal incidence differs by +/-8% (standard deviation) among the three devices. The angular dependence of the reflectivity and PDE was also measured for one of the SiPMs. Both the reflectivity and PDE decrease as the angle of incidence increases. Abstract: Liquid xenon (LXe) is employed in a number of current and future detectors for rare event searches. We use the EXO-200 experimental data to measure the absolute scintillation and ionization yields generated by $\gamma$ interactions from $^{228}$Th (2615~keV), $^{226}$Ra (1764~keV) and $^{60}$Co (1332~keV and 1173~keV) calibration sources, over a range of electric fields. The $W$-value that defines the recombination-independent energy scale is measured to be $11.5~\pm~0.5$~(syst.)~$\pm~0.1$~(stat.) eV. These data are also used to measure the recombination fluctuations in the number of electrons and photons produced by the calibration sources at the MeV-scale, which deviate from extrapolations of lower-energy data. Additionally, a semi-empirical model for the energy resolution of the detector is developed, which is used to constrain the recombination efficiency, i.e., the fraction of recombined electrons that result in the emission of a detectable photon. Detailed measurements of the absolute charge and light yields for MeV-scale electron recoils are important for predicting the performance of future neutrinoless double beta decay detectors.

Abstract: We apply deep neural networks (DNN) to data from the EXO-200 experiment. In the studied cases, the DNN is able to reconstruct the relevant parameters - total energy and position - directly from raw digitized waveforms, with minimal exceptions. For the first time, the developed algorithms are evaluated on real detector calibration data. The accuracy of reconstruction either reaches or exceeds what was achieved by the conventional approaches developed by EXO-200 over the course of the experiment. Most existing DNN approaches to event reconstruction and classification in particle physics are trained on Monte Carlo simulated events. Such algorithms are inherently limited by the accuracy of the simulation. We describe a unique approach that, in an experiment such as EXO-200, allows to successfully perform certain reconstruction and analysis tasks by training the network on waveforms from experimental data, either reducing or eliminating the reliance on the Monte Carlo., Accepted version. 33 pages, 28 figures

Abstract: A search for instability of nucleons bound in Xe136 nuclei is reported with 223 kg·yr exposure of Xe136 in the EXO-200 experiment. Lifetime limits of 3.3×1023 and 1.9×1023 yr are established for nucleon decay to Sb133 and Te133, respectively. These are the most stringent to date, exceeding the prior decay limits by a factor of 9 and 7, respectively.

Abstract: Background: Blood rheology abnormalities are recognized as one of the main pathophysiological components of bronchial asthma. Standard medical treatment of bronchial asthma does not exert any substantial effect on blood fluidity. Aim: To assess efficacy of quantum haemotherapy and its influence on blood rheology in the combination treatment of bronchial asthma.Materials and methods: Four hundred and eighty patients admitted to our in-patient department with mild (44.5%) and severe (55.5%) exacerbations of persistent moderate asthma, were randomized into two groups: the main group (n = 250), which, along with conventional treatment, received photohaemotherapy with blue (PHB, n = 220) or red (PHR, n = 30) light, and the control group (n = 230), which received conventional treatment for two weeks. PHB (light-emitting diode devise “Solaris”) and PHR (helium neon laser) was performed according to the following regimen: duration of a session 30 minutes, number of sessions, from 5 to 7 with in-between intervals of 2 to 3 days. The degree of erythrocyte deformation, relative membrane charge and relative gradient membrane potential of erythrocytes, total erythrocyte counts, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, and blood viscosity were assessed at days 1 and 14, as well as after 3 months.Results: At day 14, the relative gradient membrane potential of erythrocytes decreased to 0.118 ± 0.01 r.u. in the PHB group, to 0.167 ± 0.01 r.u. in the PHR group, and to 0.153 ± 0.01 r.u. in the conventional treatment group. The relative charge of erythrocyte membranes increased to 0.202 ± 0.07, 0.19 ± 0.07 and 0.14 ± 0.07 r.u., the degree of erythrocyte deformation decreased to 1.4 ± 0.1, 1.6 ± 0.1 and 1.9 ± 0.1 scores, the degree of hypoxic anisotropy of the serum decreased to 0.8, 0.9 and 1.2 scores, respectively (in all cases, p < 0.05 for comparison with baseline values). However, a significant difference of all parameters from the normal range persisted (p < 0.001). No significant changes of hemoglobin and total erythrocyte counts were observed during the whole follow up period. At the end of the photohaemotherapy course, blood viscosity in the PHB group decreased to 4.55 ± 0.11 mPa·s (from the baseline value of 5.04 ± 0.13 mPa·s, p < 0.05), and was close to normal range (4.5 ± 0.3 mPa·s). In the conventionally treated group, blood viscosity was not changed (5.41 ± 0.11 mPa·s before treatment and 5.39 ± 0.12 mPa·s thereafter, p > 0.05). At month 3, all patients, despite their clinical well-being, demonstrated a deterioration of the parameters studies. However, only in the conventionally treated group the degree of this deterioration was compatible with parameters registered during an asthma exacerbation.Conclusion: Blood rheology parameters demonstrated a more rapid and advanced improvement in patients with exacerbations of bronchial asthma, who were treated with the use of photohaemotherapy, compared to those who received conventional treatment only.

Abstract: Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) are attractive candidates for light detectors for next generation liquid xenon double-beta decay experiments, like nEXO. In this paper we discuss the requirements that the SiPMs must satisfy in order to be suitable for nEXO and similar experiments, describe the two test setups operated by the nEXO collaboration, and present the results of characterization of SiPMs from several vendors. In particular, we find that the photon detection efficiency at the peak of xenon scintillation light emission (175-178 nm) approaches the nEXO requirements for tested FBK and Hamamatsu devices. Abstract: An RF ion-funnel technique has been developed to extract ions from a high-pressure (10 bar) noble-gas environment into a vacuum (10(-6) mbar). Detailed simulations have been performed and a prototype has been developed for the purpose of extracting Ba-136 ions from Xe gas with high efficiency. With this prototype, ions have been extracted for the first time from high-pressure xenon gas and argon gas. Systematic studies have been carried out and compared to simulations. This demonstration of extraction of ions, with mass comparable to that of the gas generating the high-pressure, has applications to Ba tagging from a Xe-gas time-projection chamber for double-beta decay, as well as to the general problem of recovering trace amounts of an ionized element in a heavy (m > 40 u) carrier gas. Abstract: Future tonne-scale liquefied noble gas detectors depend on efficient light detection in the VUV range. In the past years Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) have emerged as a valid alternative to standard photomultiplier tubes or large area avalanche photodiodes. The next generation double beta decay experiment, nEXO, with a 5 tonne liquid xenon time projection chamber, will use SiPMs for detecting the $178\,\text{nm}$ xenon scintillation light, in order to achieve an energy resolution of $\sigma / Q_{\beta\beta} = 1\, \%$. This paper presents recent measurements of the VUV-HD generation SiPMs from Fondazione Bruno Kessler in two complementary setups. It includes measurements of the photon detection efficiency with gaseous xenon scintillation light in a vacuum setup and dark measurements in a dry nitrogen gas setup. We report improved photon detection efficiency at $175\,\text{nm}$ compared to previous generation devices, that would meet the criteria of nEXO. Abstract: Searches for double beta decay of ^(134)Xe were performed with EXO-200, a single-phase liquid xenon detector designed to search for neutrinoless double beta decay of ^(136)Xe. Using an exposure of 29.6 kg⋅yr, the lower limits of T^(2νββ_+(1/2) > 8.7×10^(20) yr and T^(0νββ)_(1/2) > 1.1×10^(23) yr at 90% confidence level were derived, with corresponding half-life sensitivities of 1.2×10^(21) yr and 1.9×10^(23) yr. These limits exceed those in the literature for ^(134)Xe, improving by factors of nearly 105 and 2 for the two antineutrino and neutrinoless modes, respectively.

Abstract: The next-generation Enriched Xenon Observatory (nEXO) is a proposed experiment to search for neutrinoless double beta ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay in $^{136}$Xe with a target half-life sensitivity of approximately $10^{28}$ years using $5\times10^3$ kg of isotopically enriched liquid-xenon in a time projection chamber. This improvement of two orders of magnitude in sensitivity over current limits is obtained by a significant increase of the $^{136}$Xe mass, the monolithic and homogeneous configuration of the active medium, and the multi-parameter measurements of the interactions enabled by the time projection chamber. Abstract: The Double Chooz experiment has determined the value of the neutrino oscillation parameter $\theta_{13}$ from an analysis of inverse beta decay interactions with neutron capture on hydrogen. This analysis uses a three times larger fiducial volume than the standard Double Chooz assessment, which is restricted to a region doped with gadolinium (Gd), yielding an exposure of 113.1 GW-ton-years. The data sample used in this analysis is distinct from that of the Gd analysis, and the systematic uncertainties are also largely independent, with some exceptions, such as the reactor neutrino flux prediction. A combined rate- and energy-dependent fit finds $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}=0.097\pm 0.034(stat.) \pm 0.034 (syst.)$, excluding the no-oscillation hypothesis at 2.0 \sigma. This result is consistent with previous measurements of $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}$.
