This article aims to discuss the expectations of Homosexual Men, Bisexual Men and a Transgender Woman, who use or want to use an oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) about PrEP modalities. Sixteen PrEP users, who are followed up in the BCN Checkpoint, were interviewed. The interviews were audio-recorded, subjected to thematic categorical analysis within the theoretical framework from the praxiographic perspective. They are all adapted to the use of daily oral and event-based PrEP. In relation to the new PrEP modalities (monthly pill; intramuscular injection every two months; subcutaneous injection every six months), they are all very receptive to these possibilities, but they lack information on the specificities of each and specific assessment of their needs. Comments about the use of oral PrEP are positive, and expectations regarding the new PrEP modalities are visibly high. However, the most important thing for the interviewees is the guarantee that they will have follow-up appointments to continue taking care of their affective-sexual health, which is not dependent on the type of PrEP modalities. In the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries, Brazilian national identity and social thought were shaped considering the spatial and symbolic dichotomy of coast-sertão, with active involvement from psychiatry. However, in the realm of racialist theories studies, these aspects have not been adequately correlated by social sciences and remain generally absent in the interdisciplinary field of mental health. In this article, we explore the significance of the sertão subregion in the Northeast in Brazilian scientific research concerning the history of mental health from the late 19th century until 1940. This specific time frame was chosen considering the relevant period of the violent epistemologies prevalent during that period and the scarcity of scientific literature on this subject. Three academic repositories from two leading institutions in the field of health were analyzed, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and the University of São Paulo, while the method and analysis were inspired by postcolonial perspectives, collaborative and non-extractive methodologies of southern epistemologies, and critical social psychology. As a review study, a thematic matrix was developed with three categories of analysis--postcolonial studies, Northeast and sertão; racialism and mental health; epistemic justice--and ten topics, in addition to a documentary matrix. The results indicated a scarcity of scientific productions on the Northeast and its sertão subregion, which we refer to as an epistemic invisibility, configuring it as an epistemic south. The originality of the study lies precisely in the method used to analyze academic productions on the sertão, shedding light on intersectional and interdisciplinary debates in health. It brings this territory to the forefront beyond the southeastern axis (Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo, the epistemic center of the history of mental health), and thus democratizing the understanding of the construction of Brazilian identity by emphasizing the role of psychiatry and its lasting effects to generate epistemic justice. Finally, impactful and collaborative actions were recommended to promote studies in this field, updating the relevance of the sertão and highlighting the racist and regionalist foundations ingrained in the construction of knowledge. QUALITATIVE research ,BEST practices ,EUTHANASIA laws ,MEDICAL personnel ,ASSISTED suicide - Abstract
The approval of the Spanish Law for the Regulation of Euthanasia in March 2021 entails a profound social change that has direct implications for professional practice at all levels of care. There is no information available about the experiences of the professionals participating in the process of implementing the law in our country, nor any guide as to what might represent good practices in euthanasia in the context of the Mediterranean countries. Due to the complexity of the concepts often associated with assisted dying processes (such as suffering, dignity and moral compass), it is essential that systematic and detailed research be conducted on how professionals understand their experiences of euthanasia, and that it be conducted during the initial stages. We intend to carry out a qualitative study with a constructionist orientation to gain insight to the social constructs underlying professionals' initial experiences. It consists of a series of in-depth interviews conducted in two phases: the first being exploratory and the second phenomenological. Sampling will be purposive and substantiated and have the following variation criteria: profession, age, and gender. Participants will be recruited through the Guarantee and Review Commission of Catalonia, and the scope of the study is all of Catalonia. We expect the participation of 31 professionals. The research will be conducted by a multidisciplinary team with the direct participation of researchers from different levels of healthcare, university research centers and civil society through all phases of the study. The expected results are: (a) A detailed description of the experiences of the professionals involved in the implementation of the law; and (b) The identification of the foundations for a guide to good practices in euthanasia in the Mediterranean setting. Abstract Feminism has frequently studied the category of sex / gender in relation to the workplace of sex workers, disinterested in other areas of life or their daily lives. The objective of the article is to identify how a sex worker creates, sustains and resists conceptions of sex / gender in her daily life, from a feminist ethnomethodological perspective. To do this, we carried out an ethnographic monitoring for six months, consisting of observations, conversations and an in-depth interview. The conclusions indicate that Gabriela creates conceptions of sex / gender through the use of her body as a means of production. She supports them through traditional relationships of the heteropatriarchal system associated with the care and support of the life of her family group and her frequent clients. She resists them by routinizing her work in the daily life of her family and the neighbors in her work settings.

Objective: To identify innovative experiences in the use of Web 2.0 technologies driven by primary care professionals in Spain which can contribute to improving the delivery of public services. Methods: Qualitative research based on the Web Sphere Analysis method. Non-participant observation and snowball techniques were used to identify innovative experiences on-line. Results: We identified 15 experiences driven by primary care professionals in Spain. These experiences can be classified according to the type of actors who interact (patient-patient, patient-professionals or professionals-professionals) and the type of platform used to promote such interaction (online doctor consultation services and virtual communities/social networks). Conclusions: The experiences identified typically offer innovative responses to social needs identified in the day by day of the health centers.

Abstract The Spanish health system has recently been marked by the emergence of more active patients who are characterized as being better informed about their disease, having a more participatory attitude, wanting to have a greater influence in making decisions about their health and asserting their rights as patients. Therefore, this article aims to report on how the introduction of Web 2.0 technologies can contribute to the empowering of more active patients. To achieve this, 14 semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients and representatives of patient associations who have used Web 2.0 technologies to interact with other patients or to communicate with health professionals. From the results obtained, we highlight the fact that Web 2.0 technologies provide greater access to health-related information, improve communication between patients and health professionals, and enable the creation of new spaces of interaction among patients. All of the facts above contribute to the formation of a more active role on the part of patients.

There are people who leave us with a text as their legacy. Their text. Sometimes it is a masterpiece, or a huge amount of work, a fertile and essential one. But there are people who leave us with something more, too: their words, their life. Rex Stainton-Rogers is one of them. An excessive, brilliant, entrepreneur, alive… human being. His words are our inheritance. His legacy are some of the most relevant social scientists from the new, emergent, generation, mostly in Great Britain, who are people trained, formed, by this exceptional character. His work, beyond the texts we’ve inherited, consisted on showing us life, truly the laboratory where knowledge is really given shape. So, those who shared with him a piece of his life, have had the privilege of being in contact with what makes knowledge passionate, what makes it useful, what which intoxicates you with pleasure. Rex died in February 1999 as he lived, free and splendid. A year later, her companion, Wendy Stainton-Rogers, organised a symposium to celebrate him, his life and his words with some of the people who owe the most to Rex life. Here you have the contribution we made that day.

In the present paper, we focus on the case of organ and tissues transfer to describe how those biomedical actants and practices involved are articulated, configuring it as an anticipatory process, namely as a constant movement attempting to bring mobile futures to the present. Drawing on an ethnographic study exploring the everyday activity of a Spanish transplant coordination team,, we begin by suggesting that donation gets inserted as an imperative in the increasingly individualized management of the citizens' biological becomings. Secondly, we turn to how the articulation of the brain death diagnosis functions as an entity capable of creating coherence between the different temporalities produced in the organs and tissues transfer. Then, we show the optimization mechanisms that operate within the waiting lists materializing imagined futures. Finally, by way of describing the permanent latency in which the transplant coordination teams work, we give an account of how biomedicine is turning away from generating practices inserted in a logic of prevention to practices that obey a logic of preparation

It's clear that the accelerated and massive implementation in contemporary societies of ICTs makes their role ever more relevant, not just as means of information access but especially insofar as the role they play in forming citizen integration and participation modes that have a glocal character. Hence, public ICT access spaces (cybercafés, libraries, telecenters, or public call centers (locutorios)) appear to be essential enclaves where one can investigate the social impact produced by these new technologies on subjects and collectives, as well as to analyze how users put them to use, particularly those ICTs aimed at the promotion and consolidation of social networks. This article first offers a review of the scientific-social literature focused on the principal public ICT access spaces. It treats the specific characteristics and means of the links and relationships frequent users, the immigrant population, establish in the public call center. As such, it is treated as a place-metaphor for migratory processes in a globalized world. The discussion defends the concept of association stations as an anthropological tool to help elucidate the characteristics of this spaces.

- Abstract
This paper will show how the "facts" considered "raw" by the legal institution acquire materiality and status of "legal fact" from the practices that take place within the community itself. The analysis reveals that the 'raw facts' are the result of a process of discursive construction. There is no objective way to describe facts, so it is fallacious to sustain access to the same “as they occurred". So, the only way to move closer to the facts is through a process of re-construction that is done through practical linguistics. In order to make visible the process of construction of the facts in the legal field, we analyze some documents extracted from the file of a case of robbery with intimidation tried in the Provincial Court of Barcelona.

This paper presents the contributions of social psychology to the study of science. It highlights its weakerpoints, and suggests ways of overconzing them. First, the authors propose a thematic classification of the studies carried out in the field of social psychology. Second, they stress the need for a more social approach to the discipline. They explain how critical social psychologists have had to turn to sociology to find useful tools to conceptualize science and knowledge. Finally, the article explores some of the aspects that should be considered by a social psychologthy that transcends the problems arising from the discipline's classical approach to science.

This article draws upon the so-called Forat de la Vergonya urban controversy and the urban transformation process of a neighborhood in Barcelona: el Casc Antic. Drawing on inputs from Actor-Network Theory (ANT), the city is explored as a multiple urban assemblage. Besides, we analyze the dichotomous nature of the modern notion of politics. Especially, the role of object-subject dichotomy is explored. Through the analysis of citizen participation opportunities we propose a new hybrid notion of citizen participation and urban policy. The main interest of this interdisciplinary thesis (psychology-law) is the understanding of transphobia and discrimination against trans* people. I locate the problem of this type of discrimination in the social construction of ‘sex/gender’ categories. Particularly, I situate it in the definition of the norms that constitute ‘woman’ and ‘man’ as two essential and mutually exclusive categories that sustain the unequal binary organisation of society. People who transgress those norms have been labelled as ‘mentally ill’ by psychiatry and psychology since the end of the 19th century. The emergence of trans* activism from the 1960s and especially Trans Studies in the 1990s has allowed questioning those pathologising discourses. In the present context, we observe a tendency towards the depathologisation of trans* experiences and identities. Depathologisation is coupled with increased visibility of trans* people in the cultural domain and a more favourable public opinion towards them. However, trans* people still face serious discrimination and the norm that divides humankind into ‘women’ and ‘men’ is still very much present. Drawing on these premises I argue that the transgression of ‘sex/gender’ norms have been redefined nowadays so that the binary opposition between women and men is maintained as the norm. Thus, trans* people are still depicted as ‘abnormal’ although pathologising and psychiatric discourses are not necessarily employed today. The general objective of the thesis is to understand how this redefinition is carried out and the effects of it in two specific contexts: the legal certification of sex in the civil status of individuals in Belgium and the definition of the worker subject. The choice of these two cases responds to the fact that trans* people report facing many obstacles and discrimination in them. Based on the theoretical and methodological principles of discursive psychology and Perelmanian new rhetoric, I realised the discourse analysis of two corpora: a legislative corpus and a corpus of interviews. The legislative corpus comprises texts of Acts, bills, amendments, parliamentary debates and Circulars regulating the mention of sex in the civil status in Belgium. The second corpus includes the transcriptions of five group interviews with workers carried out with co-workers from five work organisations in Brussels. In both cases, the identification of discursive practices and their variability allowed me to elucidate the effects they produce. Specifically, it allowed me to show that, although the identified practices seem less stigmatising, they still depict trans* people as a ‘deviation from the norm’, thereby legitimising a different legal treatment towards them and justifying the discrimination and exclusion they endure at work. Moreover, the identified practices reproduce the binary organisation of society and justify discrimination against women in the workplace. The ultimate purpose of this thesis is to promote an informed critical attitude towards those discursive practices and, in this way, to contribute to the struggle against transphobia and sexism., Dans cette thèse interdisciplinaire (psychologie-droit) je m’intéresse à la transphobie et la discrimination à l’égard des personnes trans*.

Social Assistance was recognized as a social right in Brazil with the Federal Constitution of 1988. Until then, practices in this field were marked by the assistance and favor provided to people in need or in poverty, strongly associated with insufficient income. Social Assistance was the last of the social policies to be regulated, which only occurred in a systematized form as of 2004, with the creation of the National Policy of Social Assistance (Pnas) in force until today. In this process of normalization, we opted to adopt the concept of social vulnerability for the definition of the public, seeking to extend it to all the population that needed it. This research was developed with the purpose of understanding the uses that the concept of vulnerability has assumed in the different dimensions in which the policy presents itself. In order to understand the theoretical and historical origins of the concept of vulnerability, as well as the connections established with Social Assistance that enabled its adoption by Pnas, we have investigated the development of the concept of poverty in the West over the last centuries and have recaptured the history of intervention in the field of Social Assistance in Brazil. We have also analyzed the norms on the subject, since 1920, in order to understand what were the changes in the definition of the public established in this dimension. In order to investigate the practice, a field survey was carried out in two capitals: Belo Horizonte and São Paulo, focused on the Service of Protection and Integral Assistance to the Family (Paif), the main service offered in Basic Social Protection (PSB) (Sistema Único de Assistência Social) which, in turn, is the strategy currently adopted for the implementation, management and co-financing of the Policy by the Federal Government. It was noticed that the post-CF-88 period has determined, in the normative dimension, a rupture with the old theoretical references and the establishment of new concepts that are guided by the recognition of the right, widely supported in the social vulnerability for its formalization. In the practical dimension, however, it was possible to perceive an unfinished transition that, although already reasonably consolidated in the discursive plan, when analyzing specifically the professional practices, are still present references that are better anchored in welfare and favor. In this context, dimensions that reduce vulnerability to income insufficiency, approaching the concept of monetary poverty and the vulnerability related to the intervention itself, which we call institutional vulnerability, are characterized by the presence of fragility in practices. The present work had as references the actress-network theory (LATOUR, 2012), the constructivist presuppositions of knowledge production and the analysis of discursive practices. We also use the proposition of Ian Hacking (2007) on 'discovery engines' for public definition analysis. The extent of institutional vulnerability is poorly addressed and it is suggested that the services logic be geared towards territorial coherence A Assistência Social foi reconhecida como um direito social no Brasil com a Constituição Federal de 1988.

This thesis is part of the reflection on new forms of psychosocial research and action in the field of gender variance and particularly on non-normative gender identities. Its overall objective is to analyze the action/research practices within the psychosocial perspective on gender and propose alternatives. This is done through a research and collective action experience in the field of transgender identities. This experience allows examining and proposing changes to dominant psychosocial approaches with respect to gender. Methodological tools of discourse analysis, narrative productions and participatory action research are used to analyze the discursive construction of transgender identity and its psychosocial effects, such as pathologization and exclusion. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of discourse and narrative as social resources to create better social conditions for non-normative gender identities.

In our knowledge society, it is common to experience work without boundaries. Some occupations such as self-employed professionals, physicians and academics can work longer hours, which leads to work-family conflict (WFC) (Byron, 2005; Frone, 2003; Eby, Casper, Lockwood, Bordeaux and Brinley, 2005). Time flexibility has been offered by employers as the most common prescriptive approach to providing a balance between work and life for their employees (Cully, Woodland, O’Reilly and Dix, 1999; Dex and Smith, 2002; Hogarth, Hasluck and Pierre 2000). However, problems concerning coping with work and domestic responsibilities remain especially acute for employees with caring responsibilities and especially women (Major, Klein and Ehrhart, 2002; Schwartz and Scott, 2000). But what happens when the work environment is flexible? Is it flexible enough to partially resolve WFC? Purpose: The general goal of the present study was to explore how professors manage the work-home interface. Therefore, the study aims to define professors’ work and specify how work can cause WFC, to identify the type of WFC events the exercise of this profession can entail, and to examine the strategies employed to reduce WFC and enhance work-family facilitation (WFF). According to the aims, relevant literature was reviewed on the following issues: 1) workfamily (life) interface (conflict and facilitation), 2) work overload, 3) related working concepts, including burnout and engagement, 4) the demands-resources framework (coping strategies), and 5) the professor’s work and the Spanish context. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative approach was used to investigate the work-family (WF) interface antecedents, outcomes and coping strategies. A survey administered to 146 female and male Spanish university professors enquired if they perceive a lack of, a sufficient amount of, or a surplus of time to perform their work. Seventeen interviews and two focus groups were also conducted in Barcelona. The fieldwork was conducted during spring 2007 and 2011. A questionnaire, focus group and interview transcripts were entered as primary documents into the Atlas.ti software for qualitative analysis, where a Thematic Content Analysis was conducted. Findings: A unique set of WF interface antecedents, outcomes, coping strategies and linkages to other factors were identified in the professors’ responses. Some professors have more than one job, some because they wish to, and others because they need to. Some may also have a presence in the political arena. Participants consider that the main task contributing to work overload is dedication to service, which means time and energy that comes from the teaching and researching realms. Only a few professors like to perform service tasks. The majority feel frustrated when obliged to carry out service tasks, since they have not been prepared to do so. This is also related to the lack of staff and resource complaints. The Teaching and Research Academic Staff (Personal Docente e Investigador, PDI) feel a lack of control when performing service tasks. However, these tasks also constitute unpaid work and it is simply their turn to do service work. Service position or tasks are also notorious for their excess paperwork. Professors that perceive a lack of time usually identify some areas of their working life in which they require more time. Two fields were detected: professional development and career advancement and control and satisfaction concerning work well done. Was a heavy workload always experienced? Twenty years ago, there was less social pressure and less self-imposed pressure. Professors were subject to fewer appraisals and less competition, and people were less exposed to the global academic community. Work overload (as a perceived lack of time to complete work) is the main stressor in the family domain. Professors’ work overload is due to the very nature of the profession and the multi-purpose nature of their work: teaching, research and service. Antecedents can be classified into three main categories: personal, social and organizational antecedents. Personal antecedents include self-imposed pressure and career development, family-to-work conflict (FIW), shortcomings in personal organization and shortcomings in self-efficacy. For the project sample, social antecedents only concern social pressure, and organizational antecedents comprise role overload, lack of resources/staff, task and schedule distribution, unforeseen events, change, bureaucracy and information overload. On the other hand, outcomes of work overload can be classified into three categories: physical and psychological/health outcomes, family consequences, and work consequences. The psychological/health outcomes category features the following aspects: psychological distress and emotional impact and impact on health and healthy habits. Family consequences consist of work-to-family conflict (WIF) and impact on social and personal time. Finally, work consequences involve work quality, satisfaction, participation, motivation and working climate. What do professors do to reduce WFC? For the purposes of the study, only one demand of the work domain has been considered: work overload (related to teaching, research and service activities). From the unpaid work domain, family (tasks and leisure related to kinkeeping) and home activities (i.e. housework, grocery shopping, budgeting and management of household finance) have been considered. The resources (coping strategies) are classified into three main coping styles: load absorption, load reduction and distress reduction, thereby creating a particular taxonomy of coping strategies for Spanish academics. Many strategies overlap and are employed to cope with work overload and family/home demands simultaneously. People cope differently according to the demand domain. However, professors evaluate the consequences generated by a certain strategy in one field on the other field. This helps them decide. However, on many occasions, there is no choice. This situation sometimes makes strategies seem counterproductive. For instance, there are some strategies for absorbing work overload (e.g. working longer hours at the office, working on Saturdays at the university or working at night) that create or intensify conflict with childcare. In other words, the behavioral-based strategy of working long hours has consequences on time-based conflict, to the detriment of competing demands and the work-family balance. In particular, the strategy of working longer hours than usual is an antecedent of work-family conflict. Stress inevitably surfaces when professors perceive that demands exceed the resources available. Professors have their own supportive coping strategies for stress, which are classified under the style known as distress reduction. Coping strategies aimed at absorbing workload, especially those related to exceeding working hours and having to work at home, reverberate in an increase of professors’ WF conflict and a decrease in perceived well-being. The coping style of absorbing the work overload encourages a culture of presenteeism. In other words, the practices change the structure (i.e. working culture), meaning that professors have little freedom to act, thus calling coping agency into question. Two extreme profiles have been identified (i.e. the “overloaded and burned-out” and the “overloaded and engaged”) in coping with work overload according to reports of experience. The relationship held by both profiles with the perception of work-family interface has been demonstrated. Engaged participants are involved in strategies that integrate the work and family domain and proactive coping (engaged professors are more likely to tackle demands while relieving pressure), and the burned-out are less flexible with work and home boundaries (segmentation) and have a preventive coping style. Changes in three variables are particularly relevant in professors’ work. The first is related to whether they have a temporary contract or tenure. The second concerns their life stage, and the third, the gender role. Academy seems to be harder for young women, not-tenured, and with young children. Limitations: The current research is not without its limitations. The cross-sectional research design implies that the postulated relationships between work overload and work-family conflict and vice versa cannot be interpreted causally. The study has also only had one analyst/encoder. A weakness of the study is that it is limited by a convenient sample of academics at one major university, as interviews and focus groups were conducted in Barcelona, and it also represents higher educated Spanish employees. The extent to which the findings can be generalized to employees in other cultural contexts with a lower level of education is unknown. The processes of conducting interviews and focus groups were carried out in Barcelona, and it is assumed that the study is representative of the situation among professors across the country given that the questionnaires were distributed across the entire country. In order to maintain the privacy of study participants, specific data regarding their discipline/profession was not collected. Therefore, future work should include information concerning academic disciplines/professions as the area in which one works may have a different work-family culture. Theoretical Implications: The purpose of this study was to contribute to the literature on both the work-family interface and work overload. Firstly, this study provides the antecedents and outcomes of work overload in a particular occupation and culture, namely, academics in Spain. This study identifies and describes the strategies for coping with work overload and it also determines three styles and two modes of coping. Results demonstrate the qualitative relationship between work overload and WFC. Secondly, this study contributes to coping theories in WF literature. It affords the specific coping strategies employed by professors at public universities in Spain in order to struggle with work and family/home demands. It was found that strategies are more effective when used together, and that some practices to absorb work overload may lead to WFC, which is consistent with emergent research. Practical implications: WF scholars have studied work overload in terms of objective working hours rather than focusing on perceived work overload (and lack of time to carry out the work). This study clearly shows the linkages among antecedents, outcomes and coping strategies regarding work overload and family-to-work conflict. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to use perceived work overload or lack of time as independent variables. Ideally, to make a step forward, researchers should address the coping strategy of working beyond normal hours to tackle workload as a variable affecting the WF interface instead of objective working hours or workload, as was done in the past. This study clearly shows the linkages among antecedents, outcomes and coping strategies concerning work overload and family-to-work conflict. Researchers are encouraged to use perceived work overload or lack of time as independent variables. Furthermore, professors’ work overload outcomes have a devastating impact on WF balance and well-being, as well as on work quality and stress that subsequently reverberates in student learning. Originality/value: The main contribution of this research consisted of setting WF research in a particular profession and context: teaching and research professors in Spain. It also recognizes that particular spillover coping strategies are predictors of WFC. Two extreme profiles for coping with the WF interface were identified, which facilitate the understanding of the reasons why working long hours sometimes has negative outcomes whereas, in other situations, it does not. Keywords: Work-family interface, spillover, work overload, coping strategies, academics.

Since the mid 80s, civic participation has been gradually integrated into local processes of urban policy. During this period, the historic centers of Spain’s most important cities have been subjected to different Urban Regeneration Plans and policies to tackle situations of deprivation and physical degradation. The main goal of the research is to detect which dimensions are most relevant to understand the impact of participation in the inner-city urban regeneration policies. This PhD thesis is in the field of Urban Studies and present a comparative analysis of four case studies located in Ciutat Vella (the historic center of Barcelona). All of them occurred after the approval of PERIs (Special Plan for the Inner-City Reform) in 1983-1986 and are characterized for the production of important changes (substantive or procedural) with respect to the agreements reached during PERIs’ approval. The first case corresponds to the ARI (Integrated Rehabilitation Area) Management Committee that operated from 1987 until 2006. The ARI Committee was the first organ that opened the participation at neighborhood associations. It was responsible for monitoring and evaluate the main operations of urban reform made during this period. The second case is the Robador-Sadurní, a Project focused on building a luxury hotel, apartments and offices in one of the most degraded areas of the historic center (Raval). This project was contested by the neighborhood movement and by other local activist groups. The third case is the conflict of the Shame Hole (Forat de la Vergonya) located in the neighborhood of Casc Antic. The City Council wanted to build there an underground park car and houses for young people. Nevertheless, due to public opposition and the coalition between social movements, the protesters were able to stop the project and also to design an alternative urban park, finally approved by the Council. The fourth case is the process of participation in the reform of the Plaça de la Gardunya, a public space located behind the Boqueria market that is currently used as a parking. The data analyzed in the PhD were recollected in two research projects: the Evaluation of Citizen Participation in the Neighbourhood Act (Llei de Barris), funded by the Department of Politics and Government of Catalonia and directed by dr. Marc Parès; and the SEJ 2007-67388/CPOL (REDES) Participation and Urban Regeneration in the city centers, directed by Dr. Ismael Blanco (IGOP-UAB) and funded by the National R & D Plan 2004-2007. The PhD is presented as a compendium of publications. It consists of an introduction, five articles, an overall synthesis which includes the discussion of the results and, last but not least, the conclusions. In the appendix there is an historical chapter exploring the urban reform of Ciutat Vella from its origins to the approval of PERIs

This research proceeds from a question about the sense of our own activity of scientific production; a question about the subjectification processes, about the processes of configuration of our "I's", of our lives in a net of power and domination relations that conform the difficulties of this life; a question about our role as social psychologists in this net of subjectification and the maintenance of status quo. The epistemological model contributes to the questions about the processes of making sense, a sense directed by language, by historicity and reflexivity. In this research, some accounts about the processes of self constitution taken from social and human sciences are presented. Contributions of Mead, Elias and Foucault are emphasised, taking in account the procesual character of the self and also the accounts of the eminent social constitution of the self, made by these authors. Departing from the interest on the systems and practices of power related to the processes of subjectification, the text makes an account on power strategies and governmentality technologies: discipline, biopolitics and the neoliberal technologies of power. The interest of this account is the approximation to explanations that work explicitly with the productive mechanisms of power that construct subjectivity. It is defended that the most rough process of domination in modernity has been and is the process of individuation, the oversight or neglect of social relations and the overall tendency towards a totalization and ultraindividuation of life. For a specific approach to the contemporary technologies of subjectification, in this text the market world is worked in relation with it's rationalisation as a core of control, governmentality and power, as processes that generate exclusions, discomfort and death. An account is worked about how the work ethics in this historical moment has effects of domination and exclusion and how in this process hostages and blackmails are produced. It is also worked how this rationalisation, supported by efficacy and benefit logic, constructs day to day the "hegemonic" subject that needs: a flexible subject, capable to adapt to any condition, a subject who's liberty is given by market, capable to assume and to negotiate with risks, an individual punished because of s/he's dependence and because of the expression of his/her necessity of others. Taken this reading of the world, some suggestions are exposed such as the separation of money and work: there is an invitation to understand the independence between the right to a necessary income for a living and the capacity of obtaining such income by means of market. Also some propositions are made that claim the possibility of rethinking collective processes, the possibility of making collective narratives of difficulty as a way of making sense to our lives and as a possibility of emancipation.

- Abstract
This article aims to discuss the expectations of Homosexual Men, Bisexual Men and a Transgender Woman, who use or want to use an oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) about PrEP modalities. Sixteen PrEP users, who are followed up in the BCN Checkpoint, were interviewed,.

- Abstract
The Spanish health system has recently been marked by the emergence of more active patients who are characterized as being better informed about their disease, having a more participatory attitude, wanting to have a greater influence in making decisions about their health and asserting their rights as patients.

- Abstract
The views of those populations that interact every day in the heart of the health system: the public, professionals and managers have now been added to the traditional technical-political approach to healthcare planning. This article presents the methodology of and a selection of results from a study carried out for the Health Map of Catalonia using qualitative methods (individual interviews, focus groups and biographical accounts) with 254 participants. The results highlight aspects related with, among others, resources (structural and informal), work overload, overuse, over-medicalisation, definition of processes, the time variable, coordination, the knowledge and competence of professionals, the conditions and key perspectives of healthcare practice (of both professionals and users), and the role of intermediary played by the professional in the system. This new methodological approach has been of great use for pointing out guidance strategies for services.

- Abstract
This study of papers gathered from the proceedings presented at Spanish social psychology conferences explores the use of bibliometrics for studying scientific disciplines. A reference database of all the papers included in the conference proceedings of events held from 1983 to 2000 was generated and classified by thematic area, paper type and author institutional affiliation. The references were laid out on contingency tables and mapped with correspondence analysis. The results show that there is a growing number of co-authored papers and a predominance of empirical over theoretical paper types. Some institutions have a higher concentration of theoretical papers while others work mostly in the areas of organizational and health psychology. In terms of empirical papers, there is a tendency towards generating more qualitative-based studies over the span of time captured by this work. There are also a number of papers written about such areas as cultural psychology that points to the emergence of an interest in critical social psychology. Concluding remarks underline the role of conferences and scientific meetings as an important indicator of the dynamic development of a scientific discipline.

- Abstract
Blood donation is indispensable for quality health service provision. The stagnation of the number of donations in Catalonia prompted up an external evaluation of the system of blood collection that could orient the future policies. An evaluation of blood-donor services in Catalonia was designed adopting a qualitative methodology. The evaluation design included the use of a variety of techniques namely participant observation, individual interviews, group interviews and documentary techniques. The field work was carried out in all blood-donation sectors of Catalonia from the 23th November to the 4th December, 1998. Using Atlas/ti, a computer science tool for the qualitative analysis of textual data, the information analysis partially followed the prescriptions of "grounded theory" and of some modalities of thematic content analysis. The results show the basic characteristics and deficiencies of the process and its organization, describing their strong and weak points. The findings also detail arguments on blood donation that the agents implied in the process, donors an professionals, use. We also report what reasons the blood-donor service managers/providers gave for donating blood, and what perceptions they had of blood donors.
