The IFMIF-DONES Facility is a unique first-class scientific infrastructure whose construction is foreseen in Granada, Spain, in the coming years. Strong integration efforts are being made at the current project phase aiming at harmonizing the ongoing design of the different and complex Systems of the facility. The consolidation of the Diagnostics and Instrumentation, transversal across many of them, is a key element of this purpose. A top-down strategy is proposed for a systematic Diagnostics Review and Requirement definition, putting emphasis in the one-of-a-kind instruments necessary by the operational particularities of some of the Systems, as well as to the harsh environment that they shall survive. In addition, other transversal aspects such as the ones related to Safety and Machine Protection and their respective requirements shall be also considered. The goal is therefore to advance further and solidly in the respective designs, identify problems in advance, and steer the Diagnostics development and validation campaigns that will be required. The present work provides an overview of this integration strategy as well as a description of some of the most challenging Diagnostics and Instruments within the facility, including several proposed techniques currently under study.

International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility-DEMO-Oriented NEutron Source (IFMIF-DONES) is a high-intensity neutron irradiation facility for qualification of fusion reactor materials, which is being designed as part of the European roadmap to fusion-generated electricity. Its main purpose is to study the behavior of materials properties under irradiation in a neutron flux able to simulate the same effects in terms of relevant nuclear responses as those expected in the first wall of the DEMO reactor which is envisaged to follow ITER. It is thus a key facility to support the design, licensing and safe operation of DEMO as well as of the fusion power plants that will be developed afterwards. The start of its construction is foreseen in the next few years. In this contribution, an overview of the IFMIF-DONES neutron source is presented together with a snapshot of the current engineering design status and of the relevant key results achieved within the EUROfusion Work Package Early Neutron Source (WPENS) as part of the 2014–2020 EURATOM Research and Training Programme, complementary to the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (FP8). Moreover, some information on the future developments of the project are given.

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) is a project aiming to investigate candidate materials to be used in the most exposed zones of future fusion reactors. The linear IFMIF prototype accelerator (LIPAc), presently under commissioning in Rokkasho, Japan, is a prototype of the frontend section of one of the IFMIF accelerators. Eight quadrupole magnets, six pairs of corrector magnets and one dipole are responsible for generating the magnetic fields needed for a proper beam handling along the 10 m long LIPAc high energy beam transport line, which connects the end of the superconducting radio frequency Linac with the beam dump. A novel design of combined magnets with the correctors integrated in the quadrupole poles is chosen for compactness reasons. The different stages of the production of the combined magnets, from the magnetic and mechanical design to their manufacturing and testing, including exhaustive characterization of the magnetic performance are described in this work. The results from the tests revealed the quality of the magnetic field produced. The materials selection was done carefully, to withstand the high levels of ionizing radiation expected at the magnet locations. This paper focuses on the activities performed in Europe, before sending the magnets to Japan for their installation and commissioning at the Rokkasho site.

International audience; Abstract IFMIF-DONES is a powerful neutron irradiation facility for the study and qualification of materials planned as part of the European roadmap to fusion-generated electricity. Its main goal is to study properties of materials under severe irradiation in a neutron field similar to the one in a fusion reactor first wall. It is a key facility to prepare for the construction of the DEMO power plant envisaged to follow ITER. The decision to start the construction of IFMIF-DONES is expected imminent. In this paper we present and discuss several key technical studies and decisions to improve and optimize the engineering design of IFMIF-DONES which were carried out as part of the activities in the framework of the EUROfusion Early Neutron Source work package (2015–2020). The following topics are discussed in this paper: the new layout of the IFMIF-DONES SRF LINAC accelerator and high-energy beam transport line, 7Be impurity management approach for the lithium loop, a maintainable test cell concept, a revised layout of the access cell for the remote maintenance operations, and facilities for complementary experiments.

The Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) is a high intensity D+ linear accelerator; demonstrator of the International Fusion Material Irradiation Facility (IFMIF). In summer 2019 the IFMIF/EVEDA Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) accelerated its nominal 125 mA deuteron (D+) beam current up to 5 MeV, with 90% transmission for pulses of 1 ms at 1 Hz. This success was possible thanks to an intense previous campaign of modelization and measurements in order to characterize the RFQ input beam, which is affected by the ECR ion source extraction and the low energy beam transport. The simulation models used with the measurement benchmarks are here presented.

As a part of the ISOLDE Consolidation project, a new beam-cooling device will be incorporated into the High Resolution Separator (HRS) to improve the ion beam delivered to the experiments. The whole beam line at this point needs to be redesigned to accommodate the ion cooler and provide beam-matching. In this paper the status of the mechanical design, the optical design and the vacuum system of the device are presented.

Curs 2013-2014, L’adquisició de la lectura és un dels moments més importants i reconeguts socialment en la vida de l’infant, per això, amb aquesta recerca es pretén investigar les dificultats i mancances que tenen els infants davant d’aquest gran repte. Es centrarà l’atenció en aquells infants que mostren factors de risc de TDAH per tal de justificar i comprovar que aquests mostren més dificultats en l’adquisició de la lectura que els infants que no mostren aquest factor de risc. Per una altra banda, amb aquesta recerca també es pretén demostrar la importància del treball sistemàtic de la consciència fonològica en l’etapa d’educació infantil, per afavorir i garantir l’adquisició de la lectura de manera integra i significativa., The acquisition of reading is one of the most important moments and socially recognized in the child's life, so this research aims to investigate the problems that children have faced this concept. It will focus the attention on those children who show risk factors for ADHD to justify and verify that they have more difficulties in the acquisition of reading than children that do not show this risk factor. On the other hand, this research also aims to demostrate the importance of phonological work awareness in the infant education stage to improve and ensure the acquisition of reading in a meaningful way.

International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility-DEMO Oriented NEutron Source (IFMIF-DONES) is an installation aimed to irradiate with a high neutron flux materials relevant for the construction of the DEMOnstration fusion power plant (DEMO), in order to study the damage due to irradiation. Neutrons are generated using a 40 MeV and 125 mA deuteron beam impinging on a thick liquid lithium target. With these characteristics, damage due to irradiation comparable to that in the first wall of a fusion power reactor is achieved. In this paper we investigate the differences in the neutronic calculations of the IFMIF-DONES design when using different nuclear data libraries. We first studied the differences in neutron production due to Li(d, xn) reactions between different models and evaluations, comparing the different results with experimental data. Additionally, we tested the performance of the MCNP6.2 and Geant4 Monte Carlo codes when using deuteron incident data libraries. Then, we performed neutronic calculations of the IFMIF-DONES design using the most reliable Li(d, xn) neutron production models available, which are the FZK-2005 and JENDL/DEU-2020 evaluations according to the results obtained in the first part of the study. Thus, the differences in these evaluations are propagated to different neutronic calculation results: neutron flux, primary displacement damage, gas production, and heating in the materials to be irradiated. Finally, we also carried out these same neutronic calculations while using different nuclear data libraries for the neutron transport.
