Search

The Mu2e experiment [1] at Fermilab will search for the neutrino-less coherent conversion of a muon into an electron in the field of a nucleus. Mu2e detectors comprise a strawtracker, an electromagnetic calorimeter and a veto for cosmic rays. The calorimeter employs 1348 Cesium Iodide crystals readout by silicon photomultipliers and fast front-end and digitization electronics. The front-end electronics consists of two discrete chips for each crystal. These provide the amplification and shaping stage,linear regulation of the SiPM bias voltage and monitoring. The SiPM and front-end control electronics is implemented in a bat- tery of mezzanine boards each equipped with an ARM processor that controls a group of 20 Amp-HV chips, distributes the low voltage and the high-voltage reference values, sets and reads back the locally regulated voltages. The elec- tronic is hosted in crates located on the external surface of calorimeter disks. The crates also host the waveform digitizer board (DIRAC) that performs dig- itization of the front end signals and transmit the digitized data to the Mu2e DAQ. Calorimeter electronic is hosted inside the cryostat and it must substain very high radiation and magnetic field so it was necessary to fully qualify it. The constraints on the calorimeter front-end and readout electronics, the design technological choices and the qualification tests will be reviewed.

The Positron Annihilation to Dark Matter Experiment (PADME) uses the positron beam of the DA$\Phi$NE Beam-Test Facility, at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF) to search for a Dark Photon $A'$. The search technique studies the missing mass spectrum of single-photon final states in $e^+e^-\rightarrow A'\gamma$ annihilation in a positron-on-thin-target experiment. This approach facilitates searches for new particles such as long lived Axion-Like-Particles, protophobic X bosons and Dark Higgs. This talk illustrated the scientific program of the experiment and its first physics results. For characterization of the fast timing properties of scintillating materials, several test benches have been developed and commissioned in various institutes within WP8 task 8.3.1 such as time resolved spectroscopy with pulsed Xrays, time coincidence resolution, pump and probe, test beam set-up for assessing the timing performances using high energy particles in beam tests. A description of the different benches is given in this document.

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the charged lepton flavor violating neutrino-less conversion of a negative muon into an electron in the field of an aluminum nucleus [1] , [2] . The Mu2e detector is comprised of a tracker, an electromagnetic calorimeter, and an external veto for cosmic rays. The calorimeter plays an important role in providing excellent particle identification capabilities, a fast and online trigger filter while aiding the track reconstruction capabilities. The calorimeter requirements are to provide a large acceptance for 100-MeV electrons and reach: 1) a time resolution better than 0.5 ns at 100 MeV; 2) an energy resolution O(10%) at 100 MeV; and 3) a position resolution of about 1 cm. The calorimeter consists of two disks, each one made of 674 pure CsI crystals readout by two large-area $2 \times 3$ array of UV-extended silicon photomultipliers (Mu2e SiPMs) of $6\,\,\times6$ mm2 dimensions. A large-scale prototype has been constructed with 51 preproduction crystals readout by 102 Mu2e SiPMs. It has been tested at the beam test facility in Frascati, demonstrating satisfying results compared to the Mu2e requirements. At the moment of writing, the crystals production phase is halfway through the work, while the SiPM production has been completed. An overview of the characterization tests is also reported, together with a description of the final calorimeter design.

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the CLFV neutrino-less coherent conversion of a muon into an electron in the field of an aluminum nucleus. The observation of this process would be the evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. Mu2e comprises a straw-tracker, an electromagnetic calorimeter and an external veto for cosmic rays. The calorimeter provides electron identification, a fast trigger and aids track reconstruction. It is a state-of-the-art crystal calorimeter and employs 1340 pure CsI crystals readout by UV-extended SiPM and fast electronics. The design consists of two identical annular disks positioned at the relative distance of 70 cm downstream the target.The hostile Mu2e conditions (total ionizing dose of 12 krad and a neutron fluence of 5 × 1010 n/cm2 @ 1 MeVeq (Si)/y, 1 T magnetic field and vacuum level of 10−4 Torr) posed tight constraints on the mechanical structures and materials choice. The support structure of the two crystal matrices employs two aluminum hollow rings and parts made of open-cell vacuum-compatible carbon fiber. SiPMs and front-end electronics for each crystal are assembled in one mechanical unit inserted in a machined copper holder. The units are supported by a plate made of vacuum-compatible material. The plate integrates the cooling system made of a network of copper lines flowing a low temperature fluid and placed in thermal contact with the copper holders. The DAQ is hosted in aluminum crates positioned on the lateral surface of the disks. The crates also integrate the DAQ electronics cooling system. We review the constraints on the calorimeter structures design, the development of all the structural components, including the simulations that have determined the materials and technological choices and the specifications of the cooling station, components production and quality assurance tests, the procedures for detector assembly, transportation and installation in the experimental area.

In modern experiment, a high granularity is required in order to distinguish signal particles from background and to solve the substructures necessary for jet identification. Time of arrival measurements in the calorimeter could play an important role in HL-LHC, since a high number of pile-up collisions is expected, and the timing could be used to assign clusters to the corresponding interaction vertex. In a Muon Collider, the timing could be used to remove signals produced by beam-induced background, asynchronous with respect to the bunch crossing. The calorimeter energy resolution is also fundamental to measure the kinematic properties of jets: a finely segmented calorimeter design should be favored in order to solve the jet substructure. However, this contrasts with the requirement for high timing resolution even for signal events involving low energy deposits, such as in the case of high impulse muons. Our proposed design, the Crilin calorimeter, is a semi-homogeneous calorimeter based on Lead Fluoride (PbF2) Crystals readout by surface-mount UV-extended Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). In this paper, the development of a small prototype consisting of 2 layers of 3 × 3 crystals each is reported along with the relative results.

To search for the production of a dark photon ($A^{\prime} $) in the process ${e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to A^{\prime} \gamma $, the PADME apparatus has been built athe INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati. It is a small-scale detector consisting of an active target, a beam monitor system, a spectrometer to measure charged particle momenta in the range 50–400 MeV, a dipole magnet to deflect the primary positron beam out of the spectrometer and allow charged particle momentum analysis and an electromagnetic calorimetric system to detect signal and background photons produced in the annihilations with high accuracy. Each element has specific requirements that are stringent and sometimes at the limit of present technology. This proceeding will give an overview of each component and a description of the technical solutions implemented to accomplish the experiment needs. Results of the commissioning data taking, performed from October 2018 to February 2019, will be illustrated.

The Mu2e electromagnetic calorimeter has to provide precise information on energy, time and position for $\sim$100 MeV electrons. It is composed of 1348 un-doped CsI crystals, each coupled to two large area Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). A modular and custom SiPM layout consisting of a 3$\times$2 array of 6$\times$6 mm$^2$ UV-extended monolithic SiPMs has been developed to fulfill the Mu2e calorimeter requirements and a pre-production of 150 prototypes has been procured by three international firms (Hamamatsu, SensL and Advansid). A detailed quality assurance process has been carried out on this first batch of photosensors: the breakdown voltage, the gain, the quenching time, the dark current and the Photon Detection Efficiency (PDE) have been determined for each monolithic cell of each SiPMs array. One sample for each vendor has been exposed to a neutron fluency up to $\sim$8.5~$\times$~10$^{11}$ 1 MeV (Si) eq. n/cm$^{2}$ and a linear increase of the dark current up to tens of mA has been observed. The Mu2e calorimeter is composed of two disks each containing 1348 pure CsI crystals, each crystal read out by two arrays of 6x6 mm2 monolithic SiPMs. The experimental requirements have been translated in a series of technical specifications for both crystals and SiPMs. Quality assurance tests, on first crystal and then SiPM production batches, confirm the performances of preproduction samples previously assembled in a calorimeter prototype and tested with an electron beam. Its requirements are to provide an energy (timing) resolution better than 10% (0.5 ns) and a position resolution below 1 cm, for 100 MeV electrons. The calorimeter consists of two disks, each one made of 674 un-doped CsI crystals readout by two large area arrays of 2 × 3 UV-extended SiPMs of 6 × 6 mm^2 dimensions. A large scale prototype (Module-0) has been constructed and tested with an electron beam in the energy range between 60 and 120 MeV at the BTF of Frascati National Laboratories. Results demonstrated that this calorimeter satisfies the Mu2e requirements.

The Mu2e calorimeter consists of 1348 undoped CsI crystals coupled to two large area UV-extended Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). A modular and custom SiPM layout, a 3×2 matrix of 6×6 mm2 monolithic SiPMs, has been developed to satisfy the Mu2e requirements. As well as ensuring the performances needed for the muon-to-electron conversion search, these photosensors have to guarantee a good reliability while operating maintenance-free in the Mu2e hostile environment: any failure can only be replaced during a long technical shut-down scheduled once a year. After testing prototypes from different vendors, we selected Hamamatsu and the final production of about 4000 pieces is now ongoing. A detailed Quality Assurance (QA) program is then mandatory to minimize the risk of an unexpected further degradation in the performances. The QA process for each photosensor includes a first visual inspection and the subsequent characterization of each of its monolithic cells by means of an automatized test station, able to measure the breakdown voltage, the gain and the dark current. For each production batch (~300 pieces), 5 devices are exposed to a neutron fluency up to ~1.4×1011 1 MeV (Si) eq. n/cm2; others 15 devices are undergone an accelerated aging in order to verify the Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) of the batch. A summary of the QA and the results for the firsts 4 production batches are presented in the paper.

The Mu2e electromagnetic calorimeter is made of two disks of un-doped parallelepiped CsI crystals readout by SiPM. There are 674 crystals in one disk and each crystal is readout by an array of two SiPM. The readout electronics is composed of two types of modules: 1) the front-end module hosts the shaping amplifier and the high voltage linear regulator; since one front-end module is interfaced to one SiPM, a total of 2696 modules are needed for the entire calorimeter; 2) a waveform digitizer provides a further level of amplification and digitizes the SiPM signal at the sampling frequency of $200\ \text{M}\text{Hz}$ with 12-bits ADC resolution; since one board digitizes the data received from 20 SiPMs, a total of 136 boards are needed. The readout system operational conditions are hostile: ionization dose of $20\ \text{krads}$, neutron flux of $10^{12}\ \mathrm{n}(1\ \text{MeVeq})/\text{cm}^2$, magnetic field of $1\ \text{T}$ and in vacuum level of $10^{-4}\ \text{Torr}$. A description of the readout system and qualification tests is reported.

In this paper, we present measurements of the energy and the time resolution of the Lutetium–Yttrium Oxyorthosilicate (LYSO) calorimeter prototype for the Mu2e experiment. The prototype calorimeter matrix consisted of 25, $\hbox{3}\,\hbox{$\times$}\, \hbox{3}\,\hbox{$\times$}\, \hbox{130\ mm}^3$ , LYSO crystals readout by $10\ \times 10\ \hbox{mm}^2$ Hamamatsu APDs. The prototype has been tested both with the tagged photon beam at MAMI, Mainz, Germany, and with the ${e^ -}$ beam of BTF, Frascati. The energy of particles used ranges between 61.3 and 187.1 MeV (80–130 MeV) for photon (electron) beams. While the MAMI data shows a negligible beam energy spread, we observe a 3%–5% contribution related to the beam in BTF sample. After correcting this effect, we obtain a global energy dependence of the energy resolution described by the formula ${\sigma _{E}}/{{E}_{{\rm {dep}}}}= {a}/\sqrt {{{E}_{{\rm {dep}}}}/{\hbox{GeV}}} \oplus {b}$ , with ${a} = ({0.59} \pm {0.12})\%$ and ${b} = ({3.63} \pm {0.21})\% $ . The simulation is in good agreement with data if we add an additional contribution due to the intrinsic LYSO fluctuation of 2.6%. We present also the measurements of the time resolution. The measurements have been performed using the ${e^ -}$ beam BTF in the energy range from 100 to 400 MeV. A resolution of ( ${161} \pm {3}$ ) ps at 100 MeV has been achieved. The energy dependence of the resolution has been fitted with following parametrization: ${\sigma _{\rm t}}{\rm (E)} = {a}/\sqrt {{E}/{\hbox{GeV}}} \oplus {b}$ , where the stochastic term and the constant term are determined to be ${a} = ({50} \pm {1})$ ps and ${b} = ({40} \pm {3})$ ps, respectively.

A large scale prototype (Module-0) has been tested at an electron beam. We report here the tests done to finalize the calorimeter design, the results obtained with Module-0 and the status of production. At this time, the performance characteristics of 85% of the crystals and all of the SiPMs have been measured. The calorimeter engineering drawings have been completed and the large mechanical components are under fabrication. Analog and digital electronics have been prototyped and tested with irradiation dose. Their serial production is being organized. The calorimeter assembly phase is planned for mid-2020.

A large scale prototype has been tested with an electron beam , demonstrating to largely satisfy the Mu2e requirements. At the moment of writing, the crystals and SiPMs production phase is halfway through the completion. An overview of the characterization tests is reported, together with a description of the final mechanical and electronical design.

The PADME experiment, at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF), in Italy, will search for invisible decays of the hypothetical dark photon via the process $e^+e^-\rightarrow \gamma A'$, where the $A'$ escapes detection. The dark photon mass range sensitivity in a first phase will be 1 to 24 MeV. We report here on measurement and simulation studies of the performance of the Small-Angle Calorimeter, a component of PADME's detector dedicated to rejecting 2- and 3-gamma backgrounds. The crucial requirement is a timing resolution of less than 200 ps, which is satisfied by the choice of PbF$_2$ crystals and the newly released Hamamatsu R13478UV photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). We find a timing resolution of 81 ps (with double-peak separation resolution of 1.8 ns) and a single-crystal energy resolution of 5.7%/$\sqrt{E}$ with light yield of 2.07 photo-electrons per MeV, using 100 to 400 MeV electrons at the Beam Test Facility of LNF. We also propose the investigation of a two-PMT solution coupled to a single PbF$_2$ crystal for higher-energy applications, which has potentially attractive features., Comment: 12 pages, 19 figures. v2: added section on radiation damage studies

Since the first version of the Mu2e TDR released at the beginning of 2015, the Mu2e Calorimeter system has undergone a long list of changes to arrive to its final design. These changes were primarily caused by two reasons: (i) the technology choice between the TDR proposed solution of BaF2 crystals readout with solar blind Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs) and the backup option of CsI crystals readout with Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) has been completed and (ii) the channels numbering, the mechanical system and the readout electronics were substantially modified while proceeding with engineering towards the final project. This document updates the description of the calorimeter system adding the most recent engineering drawings and tecnical progresses.

We propose an evolution of the Mu2e experiment, called Mu2e-II, that would leverage advances in detector technology and utilize the increased proton intensity provided by the Fermilab PIP-II upgrade to improve the sensitivity for neutrinoless muon-to-electron conversion by one order of magnitude beyond the Mu2e experiment, providing the deepest probe of charged lepton flavor violation in the foreseeable future. Mu2e-II will use as much of the Mu2e infrastructure as possible, providing, where required, improvements to the Mu2e apparatus to accommodate the increased beam intensity and cope with the accompanying increase in backgrounds.

The Mu2e experiment is constructing a calorimeter consisting of 1,348 undoped CsI crystals in two disks. Each crystal has a dimension of 34 x 34 x 200 mm, and is readout by a large area silicon PMT array. A series of technical specifications was defined according to physics requirements. Preproduction CsI crystals were procured from three firms: Amcrys, Saint-Gobain and Shanghai Institute of Ceramics. We report the quality assurance on crystal's scintillation properties and their radiation hardness against ionization dose and neutrons. With a fast decay time of 30 ns and a light output of more than 100 p.e./MeV measured with a bi-alkali PMT, undoped CsI crystals provide a cost-effective solution for the Mu2e experiment., Comment: 7 pages, 16 figures, published in IEEE TNS NS (2018)

The use of Silicon Photo-Multipliers (SiPMs) has become popular in the design of High Energy Physics experimental apparatus with a growing interest for their application in detector area where a significant amount of non-ionising dose is delivered. For these devices, the main effect caused by the neutron fluence is a linear increase of the leakage current. In this paper, we present a technique that provides a partial recovery of the neutron damage on SiPMs by means of an Electrical Induced Annealing. Tests were performed, at the temperature of 20°C, on a sample of three SiPM arrays (2×3) of 6 mm2 cells with 50 μm pixel sizes: two from Hamamatsu and one from SensL. These SiPMs have been exposed to neutrons generated by the Elbe Positron Source facility (Dresden), up to a total fluence of 8 × 1011 n1 MeV-eq/cm2. Our techniques allowed to reduced the leakage current of a factor ranging between 15-20 depending on the overbias used and the SiPM vendor. Because, during the process the SiPM current can reach O(100 mA), the sensors need to be operated in a condition that provides thermal dissipation. Indeed, caution must be used when applying this kind of procedures on the SiPMs, because it may damage permanently the devices themself.

A “custom” modular SiPM layout has been chosen to enlarge the active sensor area and maximize the number of collected photoelectrons from the crystal. To well match the wavelength of the emitted light produced by the CsI crystals the SiPMs have to be extended in the UV region. A configuration in series has been chosen to overcome the issues related to the parallel connection which might affect the energy and time measurements, as due to the very large capacitance that may result in an increased noise, signal rise time and width. The design, production and tests on these SiPMs will be shown.

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the charged lepton flavor violating process of neutrino-less $��\to e$ coherent conversion in the field of an aluminum nucleus. Mu2e will reach a single event sensitivity of about $2.5\cdot 10^{-17}$ that corresponds to four orders of magnitude improvements with respect to the current best limit. The detector system consists of a straw tube tracker and a crystal calorimeter made of undoped CsI coupled with Silicon Photomultipliers. The calorimeter was designed to be operable in a harsh environment where about 10 krad/year will be delivered in the hottest region and work in presence of 1 T magnetic field. The calorimeter role is to perform $��$/e separation to suppress cosmic muons mimiking the signal, while providing a high level trigger and a seeding the track search in the tracker. In this paper, we report the measurement of the neutron radiation hardness of custom Silicon Photomultipliers arrays (SiPMs) manufactured by three companies: Hamamatsu (Japan), AdvanSiD (Italy) and SensL (Ireland). These custom SiPMs consist of a 2 x 3 array of 6 x 6 mm^2 monolithic cells with pixel sizes of respectively 50 um (Hamamatsu and SensL) and 30 um (AdvanSid). A sample from each vendor has been exposed to neutrons generated by the Elbe Positron Source facility (Dresden), up to a total fluence of ~ 8.5 x 10^11 n_(1 MeV)/cm^2. Test results show that the dark current increases almost linearly with the neutron fluence. The room temperature annealing was quantified by measuring the dark current two months after the irradiation test. The dependence of the dark current on the device temperature and on the applied bias have been also evaluated., 5 pages, 14 figures

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for Charged Lepton Flavor Violating conversion of a muon to an electron in an atomic field. The Mu2e detector is composed of a tracker, an electromagnetic calorimeter and an external system, surrounding the solenoid, to veto cosmic rays. The calorimeter plays an important role to provide: a) excellent particle identification capabilities; b) a fast trigger filter; c) an easier tracker track reconstruction. Two disks, located downstream of the tracker, contain 674 pure CsI crystals each. Each crystal is read out by two arrays of UV-extended SiPMs. The choice of the crystals and SiPMs has been finalized after a thorough test campaign. A first small scale prototype consisting of 51 crystals and 102 SiPM arrays has been exposed to an electron beam at the BTF (Beam Test Facility) in Frascati. The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the coherent $\mu \to e$ conversion on aluminum atoms. The detector system consists of a straw tube tracker and a crystal calorimeter. A pre-production of 150 Silicon Photomultiplier arrays for the Mu2e calorimeter has been procured. A detailed quality assur- ance has been carried out on each SiPM for the determination of its own operation voltage, gain, dark current and PDE. The calorimeter plays an important role in providing particle identification capabilities, a fast online trigger filter, a seed for track reconstruction while working in vacuum, in the presence of 1 T axial magnetic field and in an harsh radiation environment. The calorimeter requirements are to provide a large acceptance for 100 MeV electrons and reach at these energies: (a) a time resolution better than 0.5 ns; (b) an energy resolution < 10% and (c) a position resolution of 1 cm. The calorimeter design consists of two disks, each one made of 674 undoped CsI crystals read by two large area arrays of UV-extended SiPMs. We report here the construction and test of the Module-0 prototype. The Module-0 has been exposed to an electron beam in the energy range around 100 MeV at the Beam Test Facility in Frascati. Preliminary results of timing and energy resolution at normal incidence are shown. To study an alternative to BaF2, as the crystal choice for the Mu2e calorimeter, thirteen pure CsI crystals from Opto Materials and ISMA producers have been characterized by determining their light yield (LY) and longitudinal response uniformity (LRU), when read with a UV extended PMT. The crystals show a LY of ~ 100 p.e./MeV (~ 150 p.e./MeV) when wrapped with Tyvek and coupled to the PMT without (with) optical grease. The LRU is well represented by a linear slope that is on average around -0.6 %/cm. The timing performances of the Opto Materials crystal, read with a UV extended MPPC, have been evaluated with minimum ionizing particles. A timing resolution of ~ 330 ps (~ 440 ps) is achieved when connecting the photosensor to the MPPC with (without) optical grease. The crystal radiation hardness to a ionization dose has also been studied for one pure CsI crystal from SICCAS. The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab looks for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation (CLFV) improving by 4 orders of magnitude the current experimental sensitivity for the muon to electron conversion in a muonic atom. A positive signal could not be explained in the framework of the current Standard Model of particle interactions and therefore would be a clear indication of new physics. In 3 years of data taking, Mu2e is expected to observe less than one background event mimicking the electron coming from muon conversion. Achieving such a level of background suppression requires a deep knowledge of the experimental apparatus: a straw tube tracker, measuring the electron momentum and time, a cosmic ray veto system rejecting most of cosmic ray background and a pure CsI crystal calorimeter, that will measure time of flight, energy and impact position of the converted electron. The calorimeter has to operate in a harsh radiation environment, in a 10-4 Torr vacuum and inside a 1 T magnetic field. This paper describes the measurements of energy and time response and resolution of a 3 x 3 array made of undoped CsI crystals coupled to large area Hamamatsu Multi Pixel Photon Counters. The measurements have been performed using the electron beam of the Beam Test Facility in Frascati (Rome, Italy) in the energy range 80-120 MeV. The measured energy resolution, estimated with the FWHM, at 100 MeV is 16.4%. This resolution is dominated by the energy leakage due to the small dimensions of the prototype. The time is reconstructed by fitting the leading edge of the digitized signals and applying a digital constant fraction discrimination technique. A time resolution of about 110 ps at 100 MeV is achieved., Comment: 10 pages, 25 figures

The Mu2e calorimeter is composed of 1400 un-doped CsI crystals, coupled to large area UV extended Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs), arranged in two annular disks. This calorimeter has to provide precise information on energy, timing and position resolutions. It should also be fast enough to handle the high rate background and it must operate and survive in the high radiation environment. Simulation studies estimated that, in the highest irradiated regions, each photo-sensor will absorb a dose of 20 krad and will be exposed to a neutron fluency of 5.5x10^11 n_(1MeV)/cm^2 in three years of running, with a safety factor of 3 included. At the end of 2015, we have concluded an irradiation campaign at the Frascati Neutron Generator (FNG, Frascati, Italy) measuring the response of two different 16 array models from Hamamatsu, which differ for the protection windows and a SiPM from FBK. In 2016, we have carried out two additional irradiation campaigns with neutrons and photons at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR, Dresden, Germany) and at the Calliope gamma irradiation facility at ENEA-Casaccia, respectively. A negligible increment of the leakage current and no gain change have been observed with the dose irradiation. On the other hand, at the end of the neutron irradiation, the gain does not show large changes whilst the leakage current increases by around a factor of 2000. In these conditions, the too high leakage current makes problematic to bias the SiPMs, thus requiring to cool them down to a running temperature of ~0 {\deg}C.

All steps done for the construction and test of the Module -0 prototype, that is an array of51 pre-production crystals, are reported. The Module -0 was exposed to an electron beam in the energy range around 100 MeV at the BTF (Beam Test Facility) inFrascati. Preliminary results of timing and energy resolution at normal incidence are shown.

We have searched for a light vector boson U, the possible carrier of a "dark force", with the KLOE detector at the DA Phi NE e(+)e(-) collider, motivated by astrophysical evidence for the presence of dark matter in the Universe. Using e(+)e(-) collisions collected with an integrated luminosity of 239.3 pb(-1), we look for a dimuon mass peak in the reaction e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-)gamma, corresponding to the decay U -> mu(+)mu(-). We find no evidence for a U vector boson signal. We set a 90% CL upper limit for the mixing parameter squared between the photon and the U boson of 1.6 x 10(-5) to 8.6 x 10(-7) for the mass region 520 < m(U) < 980 MeV.

The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in particle physics and a persistent discrepancy of about 3 σ between standard model (SM) prediction and the experimental measurement has been observed. The leading order contribution aμhlo is actually the main source of uncertainty in the theoretical evaluation of the muon anomaly. It is obtained by a dispersion integral using the precision measurement of hadronic cross section. The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ−factory in Frascati was the first to exploit Initial State Radiation (ISR) processes to obtain the e+e−→π+π−(γ) cross section below 1 GeV, that accounts for most (70%) of the leading order contribution to the muon anomaly. In year 2005 and 2008 the KLOE-collaboration has published two measurements of the π+π− cross section with the photon in the initial state emitted at small angle, and an independent measurement with the photon emitted at large angle was finalized in year 2011. These measurements were normalized using luminosity from Bhabha. In the last years, a new analysis of KLOE data has been performed for obtaining the pion form factor directly from the bin-by-bin π+π−γ to μ+μ−γ ratio. We present the results of this new measurement, showing the comparison with our previous measurements, and its impact on the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

We have carried out a new direct search for the CP violating decay K-S -> 3 pi(0) with 1.7 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collisions collected by the KLOE detector at the Phi-factory DA Phi NE. We have searched for this decay in a sample of about 5.9 x 10(8) KSKL events tagging the K-S by means of the K-L interaction in the calorimeter and requiring six prompt photons. With respect to our previous search, the analysis has been improved by increasing of a factor four the tagged sample and by a more effective background rejection of fake K-S tags and spurious clusters. We find no candidates in data and simulated background samples, while we expect 0.12 standard model events. Normalizing to the number of K-S -> 2 pi(0) events in the same sample, we set the upper limit on BR(K-S -> 3 pi(0))
