Abstract

An experimental study of 256Rf spontaneous fission following the fusion reaction of 50Ti+208Pb was performed using the velocity filter SHELS of the Flerov laboratory at JINR. The average number of neutrons of ν‾=4.30±0.17 and variance of σν2=3.2 from the prompt neutron multiplicity distribution were obtained. The alpha decay branching ratio of bα=0.003−0.003+0.005 and the half-life of T1/2=(6.7±0.2) ms of the isotope were determined. For the first time, our neutron detector system allowed us to extend investigation of the prompt neutron multiplicity study to the superheavy element region.

Abstract

It is shown that when the parent nucleus has nn Borromean halo structure, then after Gamow-Teller (GT) β -decay of parent state or after M1 γ -decay of Isobar Analogue Resonance ( IAR ) the states with np tango halo structure or mixed np tango + nn Borromean halo structure can be populated. Resonances in the GT β -decay strength function S β (E) of halo nuclei may have np tango halo structure or mixed np tango + nn Borromean halo structure. Demonstrated that the nuclei with Z/N ≈ 0.6 may correspond to the SU(4) region.

Abstract

A new ion guide chamber has been designed for heavy-ion (HI) induced fusion—evaporation reactions. Its principle is based on the beam projectiles-evaporation residues separation which is achieved by taking advantage of their very different angular distributions after passing a thick target. In this work it is proved that the IGISOL technique can be applied with an overall efficiency > 10 −3 for the study of mass-separated exotic nuclei produced in (HI, x n) reactions.
