“Transition” is the dynamic process of changing state, going beyond, crossing over, and passing from one point to the next. The signification of the word is close to that of evolution, modification, mutation, and transformation, all of which are confined into a strictly restricted timeframe. Etymologically, “transitions” can be nothing else than temporary: they appear silently, burst, violently establish, and gradually disappear into reality. In their blinding momentariness, “transitions” bear with them the positive undertone of change and renewal, along with the hopefulness of that which is unknown. If the term “transition” recurs regularly in the contemporary vocabulary of architecture and design cultures, this repetition reveals a period characterized by overlapping and sequential changes. The word is without a doubt overused, but not without reason. Indeed, we find ourselves in an unusually extended period of consecutive “transitions”, overwhelmingly undefined in temporality and ambitions. As we are witnessing societies go through stark demographic, political, economic, and cultural changes, the intersecting problematics (e.g., ecological, digital, pandemic, etc.) form a rather complex topography of change, negatively charged by the instability of dilated time and the uncertainty of undefined destination. The word is employed with the confidence of a natural process, as if it were a storm, and while we affirm our existence in “transition”, we nod our troubled times away. Whether positively or negatively perceived, “transitions” form bridges between histories. Yet, what does it actually mean to be in “transition”? Can we define it as an autonomous and productive period whose importance could go beyond a starting and an ending date? How are “transitions” impacting and being impacted by human spaces, the built environment, and design cultures? What are some concrete, practical case studies that demonstrate how “transitions” could affect architecture and design cultures while emphasizing the role that these disciplines play in transitional processes? It is within this backdrop that we put forward the theme of “transition”—in all its simplicity and complexity.

Sandy coasts represent vital areas whose preservation and maintenance also involve economic and tourist interests. Besides, these dynamic environments undergo the erosion process at different levels depending on their specific characteristics. For this reason, defence interventions are commonly realized by combining engineering solutions and management policies to evaluate their effects over time. Monitoring activities represent the fundamental instrument to obtain a deep knowledge of the investigated phenomenon. Thanks to technological development, several possibilities both in terms of geomatic surveying techniques and processing tools are available, allowing to reach high performances and accuracy. Nevertheless, when the littoral definition includes both emerged and submerged beaches, several issues have to be considered. Therefore, the geomatic surveys and all the following steps need to be calibrated according to the individual application, with the reference system, accuracy and spatial resolution as primary aspects. This study provides the evaluation of the available geomatic techniques, processing approaches, and derived products, aiming at optimising the entire workflow of coastal monitoring by adopting an accuracy-efficiency trade-off. The presented analyses highlight the balance point when the increase in performance becomes an additional value for the obtained products ensuring proper data management. This perspective can represent a helpful instrument to properly plan the monitoring activities according to the specific purposes of the analysis. Finally, the primary uses of the acquired and processed data in monitoring contexts are presented, also considering possible applications for numerical modelling as supporting tools. Moreover, the theme of coastal monitoring has been addressed throughout this thesis by considering a practical point of view, linking to the activities performed by Arpae (Regional agency for prevention, environment and energy of Emilia-Romagna). Indeed, the Adriatic coast of Emilia-Romagna, where sandy beaches particularly exposed to erosion are present, has been chosen as a case study for all the analyses and considerations.

The need for metric data acquisition is an issue strictly related to the human capability of describing the world with rigorous and repeatable methods. From the invention of photography to the development of advanced computers, the metric data acquisition has been subjected to rapid mutation, and nowadays there exists a strict connection between metric data acquisition and image processing, Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. The sensor devices for the 3D model generation are various and characterized by different functioning principles. In this work, optical passive and active sensors are treated, focusing specifically on close-range photogrammetry, Time of Flight (ToF) sensors and Structured-light scanners (SLS). Starting from the functioning principles of the techniques and showing some issues related to them, the work highlights their potentialities, analyzing the fundamental and most critical steps of the process leading to the quality assessment of the data. Central themes are the instruments calibration, the acquisition plan and the interpretation of the final results. The capability of the acquisition techniques to satisfy unconventional requirements in the field of Cultural Heritage is also shown. The thesis starts with an overview about the history and developments of 3D metric data acquisition. Chapter 1 treats the Human Vision System and presents a complete overview of 3D sensing devices. Chapter 2 starts from the enunciation of the basic principle of close-range photogrammetry considering digital cameras functioning principles, calibration issues, and the process leading to the 3D mesh reconstruction. The case of multi-image acquisition is analyzed, deepening the quality assessment of the photogrammetric process through a case study. Chapter 3 is devoted to the range-based acquisition techniques, namely ToF laser scanners and SLSs. Lastly, Chapter 4 focuses on unconventional applications of the mentioned high-resolution acquisition techniques showing some examples of study cases in the field of Cultural Heritage.

The research activities involved the application of the Geomatic techniques in the Cultural Heritage field, following the development of two themes: Firstly, the application of high precision surveying techniques for the restoration and interpretation of relevant monuments and archaeological finds. The main case regards the activities for the generation of a high-fidelity 3D model of the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna. In this work, aimed to the restoration of the manufacture, both the geometrical and radiometrical aspects were crucial. The final product was the base of a 3D information system representing a shared tool where the different figures involved in the restoration activities shared their contribution in a multidisciplinary approach. Secondly, the arrangement of 3D databases for a Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach, in a process which involves the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of historical buildings, towards a so-called Historical Building Information Model (HBIM). A first application was conducted for the San Michele in Acerboli’s church in Santarcangelo di Romagna. The survey was performed by the integration of the classical and modern Geomatic techniques and the point cloud representing the church was used for the development of a HBIM model, where the relevant information connected to the building could be stored and georeferenced. A second application regards the domus of Obellio Firmo in Pompeii, surveyed by the integration of the classical and modern Geomatic techniques. An historical analysis permitted the definitions of phases and the organization of a database of materials and constructive elements. The goal is the obtaining of a federate model able to manage the different aspects: documental, analytic and reconstructive ones.

The recent years saw a growing usage of remote sensing platforms, such as satellites and unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs). The Copernicus observation programme is an example of a new satellite constellation improving and promoting easy free access dataset, timely updated. The high popularity of UAVs is related to the obtaining high-resolution data, quickly at a relatively low cost. As result, sensors with high spatial and temporal resolution produce a great number of data, and these data increase exponentially. Consequently, the software for image processing play a key role in the diffusion of this technology. The satellites take advantage of dedicated software for imagery analysis. The UAVs use structure from motion techniques for photogrammetric processing. However, the data analysis for both sensors is based on the classic pixel-based and object-based remote sensing techniques. Moreover, there is a growing demand for innovative tools to analyse huge dataset and to integrate the information for environmental analyses, monitor geomorphological aspects and land use studies, in particular in rural areas. This thesis aims to study how GIS software using open source libraries can integrate information extracted from the satellite and the UAVs imagery, using a machine learning approach in a multilevel remote sensing framework. The main research questions are: (1) Can the classic techniques of remote sensing be used to extract suitable land use/land cover (LULC) maps – suitable in terms of classification accuracy – for the very high-resolution imagery of UAVs? (2) Can information from images of UAVs be merged with data from satellite images in the same area to achieve better results? (3) Which methods are optimal to analyse imagery of UAVs, and which benefits can be achieved through the use of more sophisticated techniques, such as the integration of multisource spatial information? To answer the research questions, a multi-level framework has been developed to integrate the information derived from remote sensing techniques. The framework has been implemented using R cran libraries, and it includes a machine learning benchmark as an alternative to pixel-based and object-based approach. The benchmark allows for testing several algorithms, in terms of accuracy and processing time for classifying LULC maps. The thesis presents the result of five papers, and the main findings relating to the major research questions can be summarized as follows: (1) The classic remote sensing techniques can be applied to UAVs high-resolution imagery to obtain a fast image classification. The maximum likelihood algorithm has a better result than the minimum distance algorithm in terms of accuracy.8 (2) It is possible to integrate the satellite and UAVs temporal series. The scale affects the size of the training areas. Thus, to integrate the satellite and UAV information, the size of the regions of interest (ROIs) shall be larger than the ground sample distance (GSD) of the satellite. The use of large ROIs can avoid the noise from nearby areas. In addition, to limit the noise due to high-resolution images, the value of the digital number (DN) inside the ROIs should be homogenous. (3) The machine learning can be applied to both satellite and UAVs imagery and integrate spatial information. The dataset derived from high-resolution imagery can be considered as big data paradigm, in terms of data size and the processing time. Using a subset greater than the 8% of the total is possible to have a good results (kappa score ranges between 80% and 90%) and fast processing time. In addition, sensitivity analysis can help to define the contribution of each layer of the multi-level framework

Remote sensing techniques could enable remarkable advances in characterizing rivers hydromorphology by providing spatially and temporally explicit information. Remote mapping of hydromorphology can play a decisive role in a wide range of river science and management applications including habitat modeling and river restoration. High resolution satellite imagery (HRSI) has recently emerged as potentially powerful means of mapping riverine environments. This research aims to develop advanced methodologies for processing HRSI to map and quantify a set of key hydromorphological attributes including: (1) river boundaries, (2) bathymetry and (3) riverbed types and compositions. Boundary pixels of rivers are subject to spectral mixture that limits the accuracy of river areas extraction using conventional hard classifiers. To address this problem, unmixing and super resolution mapping (SRM) are focused as two steps, respectively, for estimation and then spatial allocation of water fractions within the mixed pixels. Optimal band analysis for NDWI (OBA-NDWI) is proposed to identify the pair of bands for which the NDWI values yield the highest correlation with water fractions. The OBA-NDWI then incorporates the optimal NDWI as a predictor of water fractions through a regression model. Water fractions obtained from the OBA-NDWI method are benchmarked against the results of simplex projection unmixing (SPU) algorithm. The pixel swapping (PS) and interpolation-based algorithms are applied on water fractions for SRM. In addition, a simple modified binary PS (MBPS) algorithm is proposed to reduce the computational time of the original PS method. Water fractions obtained from the proposed OBA-NDWI method are demonstrated to be in good agreement with those of SPU algorithm (R2=90%, RMSE=7% for WorldView-2 (WV-2) image and R2=87%, RMSE=9% for Geoeye image). The spectral bands of WV-2 provide a wealth of choices through the proposed OBA-NDWI to estimate water fractions. The interpolation-based and MBPS methods lead to sub-pixel maps comparable with those obtained using the PS algorithm, while they are computationally more effective. SRM algorithms improve user/producer accuracies of river areas about 10% with respect to conventional hard classification. This research introduces multiple optimal depth predictors analysis (MODPA) that combines previously developed depth predictors along with other measures such as the intensity components of HSI color space. To avoid over-fitting of the linear model, statistically optimal predictors are selected based on one of partial least square (PLS), stepwise and principal component (PC) regressions. The primary focus of this study is on shallow and clearly flowing streams where substrate variability could have pronounced effect on depth retrievals. Spectroscopic experiments are performed in controlled condition of a hydraulic laboratory to examine the robustness of bathymetry models with respect to changes in bottom types. Further, simulations from radiative transfer modeling are used to extend the analysis by isolating the effect of inherent optical properties (IOPs) and also by investigating the performance of bathymetry models in optically complex and also deeper streams. Bathymetry of Sarca, a shallow river in Italian Alps, is also mapped using a WorldView-2 (WV-2) image where the atmospheric compensation (AComp) product is evaluated for the first time. Results indicate the robustness of multiple-predictor models particularly MODPA rather than single-predictor models such as optimal band ratio analysis (OBRA) with respect to heterogeneity of bottom types, IOPs and atmospheric effects. This study suggests extra predictors when the multiple regression is assisted with an optimal predictors selection process (e.g. MODPA). The extra predictors enhance the accuracy of depth retrievals particularly in optically complex waters and also for low spectral resolution imagery (e.g. GeoEye). Further, enhanced spectral resolution of WV-2 compared to GeoEye improves the bathymetry retrievals. MODPA based on PLS regression provided improvements on the order of 0.05 R2 and 0.7 cm RMSE compared to multiple Lyzenga and 0.18 R2 and 2 cm RMSE compared to OBRA using AComp reflectances of WV-2 for Sarca River with a maximum 0.8 m depth. In addition, a theoretical approach namely hydraulically assisted bathymetry (HAB) is assessed and further modified for calibration of bathymetry models that provided comparable results with the empirical calibration approach. Substrate mapping in fluvial systems has not received as much attention as that in nearshore optically shallow waters of inland and coastal areas. The research to date has been primarily based on surface spectral reflectance data without accounting for water column attenuations. This study aims at retrieving the bottom reflectances in shallow rivers and then examining the effectiveness of inferred bottom spectra in mapping of substrate types. Bathymetry and diffuse attenuation coefficient (kd) are derived from above-water reflectances for which some in-situ/known depths are required. Following the retrievals of depth and kd, bottom reflectances are estimated based on a water column correction method. Moreover, the efficacy of vegetation indices (VIs) is examined for making distinction among the densities of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) using either above-water or retrievals of bottom reflectances. This research benefits, for the first time, from three different approaches including controlled spectroscopic measurements in a hydraulic lab, simulations from radiative transfer modeling and an 8-band WordView-3 (WV-3) image. The results indicate the significant enhancements of streambed mapping using inferred bottom reflectances than using above-water spectra. This is evident, for instance, on clustering of three bottom types using simulated spectra with 20% enhancement of overall accuracy. Deep-water correction demonstrated to have most of an impact on retrievals of bottom reflectances only in NIR bands when the water column is relatively thick (> 0.5 m) and/or when the water is turbid. The red-edge (RE) band of WV-3/WV-2 improves remarkably the detection of SAV densities based on the VIs either using above-water or retrieved bottom spectra. Further, the simulated spectra suggest that enhanced spectral resolution of 8-band WV-3 leads to improvements in streambed mapping compared to traditional 4-band imagery. This study demonstrated the feasibility of retrieving bottom reflectances and mapping SAV densities from space in a shallow river using the WV-3 image (user and producer accuracies of 67% and 60% in average for three levels of SAV densities). Moreover, the feasibility of mapping grain size classes is assessed using spectral information based on laboratory experiments coupled with simulations. The changes in grain sizes affect the magnitude of reflectances while the shape of spectra remains almost identical. This characteristic feature demonstrated high potentials for mapping grain size classes by retrieving the bottom reflectances. In summary, HRSI provided promising results and effective means of mapping the selected hydromorphological attributes of shallow rivers in spatially continuous and in large extents.

Modern remote sensing instruments, mounted on a modern aerial platform and assisted through the use of automated procedures are now capable of acquiring data over a vast area in a short timeframe. Thanks to innovative processing methods and algorithms it is then possible to rapidly deliver results with a high detail and accuracy. The discussed thesis provides a detailed overview, through different case studies and examples, on the evolving complete pipeline required to survey, process, store, integrate, analyze and deliver data in the form of a 3D city model and GIS in the urban environment. A comprehensive 3D city model is, in fact, the necessary multi-disciplinary backbone for the ubiquitous sensors of a Smart City.

Desertification constitutes a natural hazard for human livelihood, wildlife and vegetation worldwide. Arid and semi-arid areas are the most likely to undergo processes of desertification, and it is a concern of the international community to control, monitor and prevent such a phenomenon. As a mainly arid region, the Middle East is particularly vulnerable to climate-induced impacts on water resources, challenged by high growth population rates and a water-stressed situation. Aim of the reasearch is to investigate Remote Sensing (RS) techniques for desertication studies, with a special focus on the Middle East region. RS is an efficient tool for environmental studies on wide areas of the Earth surface, allowing fast and reproducible analysis on regional and continental scales . For this research two RS methods of change detection analysis have been investigated and further implemented: Change Vector Analysis (CVA), applied to the Tasselled Cap Transform (TCT) outputs, and the Maximum Autocorrelation Factor (MAF) transformation of the Multivariate Alteration Detector (MAD) components (MAD/MAF). The research introduces improvements in the use of both techniques adapting them to desertification studies and proposes a new RS methodology, which has been proven effective in detecting the surface change in arid and semi-arid areas. An added value of the research is the availability of the source code, implemented for this study, to other users, through GFOSS software.

Dense point clouds can be used for three important steps in structural analysis, in the field of cultural heritage, regardless of which instrument it was used for acquisition data. Firstly, they allow deriving the geometric part of a finite element (FE) model automatically or semi-automatically. User input is mainly required to complement invisible parts and boundaries of the structure, and to assign meaningful approximate physical parameters. Secondly, FE model obtained from point clouds can be used to estimate better and more precise parameters of the structural analysis, i.e., to train the FE model. Finally, the definition of a correct Level of Detail about the three-dimensional model, deriving from the initial point cloud, can be used to define the limit beyond which the structural analysis is compromised, or anyway less precise. In this work of research, this will be demonstrated using three different case studies of buildings, consisting mainly of masonry, measured through terrestrial laser scanning and photogrammetric acquisitions. This approach is not a typical study for geomatics analysis, but its challenges allow studying benefits and limitations. The results and the proposed approaches could represent a step towards a multidisciplinary approach where Geomatics can play a critical role in the monitoring and civil engineering field. Furthermore, through a geometrical reconstruction, different analyses and comparisons are possible, in order to evaluate how the numerical model is accurate. In fact, the discrepancies between the different results allow to evaluate how, from a geometric and simplified modeling, important details can be lost. This causes, for example, modifications in terms of mass and volume of the structure.

Al giorno d’oggi, la tecnologia GNSS può essere uno strumento utile, non solo in ambito di navigazione, ma anche per applicazioni di posizionamento di precisione come il monitoraggio di strutture o del territorio. Questa tecnica permette un controllo in continuo, anche da remoto, e ha un costo relativamente basso sia per quanto riguarda le strumentazioni che per gli aspetti di materializzazione e mantenimento. Nell’ottica di utilizzare la tecnologia GNSS per applicazioni di monitoraggio, il problema, nella sua interezza, può essere suddiviso in due grandi ambiti: l’ambito tecnologico (strumentazioni e apparati da adottare per un problema di monitoraggio anche in tempo reale) e l’ambito scientifico legato al problema del trattamento del dato che può, o deve, essere separato a sua volta in due aree legate alla tipologia di monitoraggio che si intende compiere. Il monitoraggio di movimenti lenti per analisi di stabilità (volto principalmente allo studio dell’evoluzione del quadro deformativo nel lungo periodo) o il monitoraggio per possibili applicazioni nell’ambito dell’early warning (che richiedono la valutazione di un movimento in tempo reale). Per le sperimentazioni sia di natura tecnologica che di trattamento del dato sono stati individuati due siti su cui sono stati installate stazioni permanenti GNSS di classe geodetica. Il primo sito è collocato sul tetto della scuola di Ingegneria ed Architettura dell’Università di Bologna, il secondo sito è la sommità della Torre Garisenda di Bologna (oggetto di particolare rilevanza culturale). Sul tetto di Ingegneria è stata collocata anche una slitta micrometrica che ha consentito l’imposizione di movimenti calibrati nelle tre direzioni. Per ciascun aspetto sono stati compiuti numerosi test sperimentali volti ad individuare le tecniche migliori per il monitoraggio con GNSS a partire dalle problematiche di trasferimento dati e finendo con lo sviluppo di particolari algoritmi per migliorare le prestazioni del sistema in condizioni di monitoraggio statico., Nowadays, GNSS technology can be a useful tool, not only for navigation and location aspects, but also for precise positioning applications, such as structures and environmental monitoring. This technique allows a continuous control, even remotely, and has a relatively low cost both regarding the instrumentation, the monumentation and the maintenance. In order to use the GNSS technology for monitoring applications, two main problems can be identified: (a) the technological one is represented by instrumentation and equipment that are used in order to provide data in real time. The scientific one (b) is related to the issue of data processing. It can be in turn separated in two fields, which are related to the type of monitoring. In detail, (b1) the monitoring of slow movements for stability analysis (aimed mainly at the study of the long time evolution of these phenomena) or (b2) the monitoring for possible applications in early warning systems. For this study two sites were considered. In each one, a GNSS geodetic class permanent station was installed. The first site is located on the roof of the School of Engineering and Architecture, University of Bologna, while the second one is on the top of the Garisenda Tower in Bologna. Moreover, in the first site, a micrometric sledge which allowed the imposition of calibrated movements in the three directions, has also been placed. For each aspect, several experimental tests have been carried out. They were aimed at identifying the best techniques for GNSS monitoring, starting from the data transfer problems and ending with the development of algorithms to improve system performance in static monitoring conditions.

I sistemi di riferimento geodetici, ed i frame che li materializzano, costituiscono struttura di base che permette di confrontare coerentemente le rappresentazioni geometriche del territorio acquisite con rilievi diversi. Nell’ultimo secolo si è vista una continua evoluzione nella definizione dei frame geodetici, dovuta principalmente alle nuove esigenze, e possibilità, introdotte dalle tecniche di geodesia spaziale. È cambiata la scala alla quale si affronta il problema, sono cambiate le precisioni delle misure e delle accuratezze richieste, sono cambiati gli approcci e le definizioni. L’esigenza di un sistema di riferimento valido su scala globale ha imposto la definizione di frame dinamici, che seguano le evoluzioni della crosta terrestre nel suo complesso, introducendo così la necessità di una coordinata temporale oltre alle classiche coordinate geometriche. Proprio la natura dinamica della Terra implica delle variazioni nel tempo delle coordinate, espresse nel riferimento globale, troppo elevate per essere gestite nelle applicazioni cartografiche a scala continentale/nazionale, per cui si è resa necessaria la definizione di altri sistemi di riferimento, vincolati alle placche tettoniche. Di fondamentale importanza sono diventati quindi i parametri di conversione delle coordinate che premettono il passaggio da sistemi globali a regionali, e viceversa. Nel percorso di questa tesi ci si è occupati del monitoraggio dei frame di riferimento dinamici, in particolare di quello nazionale realizzato dalla Rete Dinamica Nazionale. È stato affrontato il problema delle velocità residue che caratterizzano il territorio italiano nel sistema di riferimento europeo, definendo un nuovo sistema ad hoc per il territorio nazionale. È stata indagata la tecnica di calcolo Precise Point Positioning, sia dal punto di vista geodetico e dell’inquadramento delle coordinate nel sistema globale, sia dal punto di vista del rilievo tecnico. Infine, ci si è occupati delle reti geodetiche diffuse sul territorio di Regione Emilia-Romagna, e della funzione che queste ancora devono avere nell’era dei GNSS., The geodetic reference systems, and the related frames, constitute the basic structure that allows to compare geometric representations of the earth acquired by different surveys. The last century has seen a continuous evolution in the definition of geodetic frames, mainly due to new needs, and possibilities, introduced by the space geodesy techniques. Are changed the scale of the problem, the precision of the measurements and the required accuracies, and also the approaches and definitions. The requirement of a global reference system has imposed the definition of dynamic frames, which follow the evolution of the earth's crust as a whole, so the need for introducing a time coordinate in addition to usual geometric coordinates. The dynamic nature of the Earth involves variations in time of coordinates, when expressed in the global reference system, too quick to be handled in mapping applications on a continental / national scale. So it was necessary the definition of other reference systems, linked to the tectonic plates. Thus, fundamental are the transformation parameters needed to switch from regional systems to global systems, and vice versa. In this thesis the topic of the monitoring of dynamic reference frames has been addressed, in particular the Italian Rete Dinamica Nazionale. The matter of the high residual ETRS velocities that characterize the Italian peninsula has been addressed, and a new ad hoc reference system was defined. The calculation technique of Precise Point Positioning has been investigated, both from the geodetic point of view, addressing the strategies to align the coordinates in the global system, than from the point of view of technical surveys. Finally, the geodetic networks of the Emilia-Romagna Region were analyzed, evaluating their importance in the age of GNSS.

The research project developed in this Thesis involves the application of close-range photogrammetry based on the Structure from Motion (SfM) approach that allows reconstructing the 3D point cloud of the photographed object from a sequence of overlapping images taken with a common digital camera. Thanks to the characteristics of high portability of the equipment, flexibility of the method to reconstruct surface at different scale with high resolution, low-cost, and ease of use also for not expertise during both acquisition and processing phase, the SfM-photogrammetry is becoming a valid alternative to the range-based technology for remote sensing and monitoring of dynamic natural environments. The aim of this research was to test and validate the capability of a ground photogrammetric survey to reconstruct a surface by dealing the main practical issues of a ground acquisition and by highlighting the main error sources which may be present within the field data. Furthermore, the feasibility of the SfM-photogrammetry approach for monitoring glacial and periglacial processes was tested in order to highlight the limitation and the potential of the method for these applications. A total of four study sites were surveyed in order to validate the photogrammetric method. A depth investigation on the photo-based approach was carried out in a test field area where different image acquisition, georeferencing methods and processing were compared and evaluated. A terrestrial panorama images acquisition was proposed and tested in this work. This acquisition strategy provided advantages in comparison to a normal single frame acquisition by increasing the spatial coverage of the reconstructed surface and the number of overlapping images that ensure higher accuracy. The potential and limits of the ground-based SfM-photogrammetry approach for monitoring glacial and periglacial processes were investigated in three different environments. For each of these study areas several tests concerning the quality of the obtained photogrammetric digital elevation models (DEMs) were performed. Different resolution and accuracy of the photogrammetric DEMs were obtained for the three case studies according to the different ground survey characteristics and survey object (i.e. extension and accessibility of the areas, camera-object distance, surface coverage, and camera resolution and geometry network). For the investigated areas, the main practical problems of the ground photogrammetric surveys that affected the SfM-photogrammetry results were: i) image quality determined by poor texture (i.e. snow and dark rock area with low contrast) and strong illumination variations during long time photos acquisition, ii) camera network geometry (i.e. high camera-object distance, poor overlapping images) and iii) distribution and accuracy of control measurements. However, the photogrammetric 3D model allowed us to estimate with good accuracy the glacial and periglacial processes respect to the reference data. The investigation on the SfM-photogrammetry quality reconstruction allowed to have a complete view of the critical points and the potential of this method for multitemporal analysis in remote alpine area and thus to assess the applicability range for future realistic case scenarios.

La tesi è suddivisa in due parti. La prima è dedicata alla determinazione della Deflessione della Verticale (DdV) in Medicina (BO). Vengono presentati tre metodi per la determinazione delle componenti della DdV. Il primo utilizza la livellazione geometrica ed il sistema GNSS, il secondo, eseguito dal dott. Serantoni, utilizza il sistema QDaedalus, messo a punto all' ETH di Zurigo ed il terzo approccio utilizza il programma ConvER, messo a disposizione dalla regione Emilia-Romagna. Nella seconda parte viene presentato un metodo per la determinazione del Coefficiente di Rifrazione Atmosferico (CRA). La procedura di calcolo è di tipo iterativo ed utilizza, oltre agli angoli zenitali, anche le distanze misurate. Il metodo è stato testato in due aree di studio. La prima nella città di Limassol (Cipro) in ambiente urbano nell' autunno 2013. La seconda in Venezia nella laguna durante l'estate 2014., In the thesis are treated two subjects. The first one is determination of vertical deflections in Medicina (BO). Three methods are presented. The first one using geodetic leveling and satellite GPS positioning, the second one by dott. Serantoni using QDaedalus a special total station with a ccd sensor and the third one using ConvER, a special program by Emilia-Romagna community network. The second subject is the determination of Atmospheric Refraction Coefficient. An iterative method is presented in two study areas. The first one is in the city of Limassol (Cyprus), and the second one in Venezia (Italy).

Il telerilevamento rappresenta un efficace strumento per il monitoraggio dell’ambiente e del territorio, grazie alla disponibilità di sensori che riprendono con cadenza temporale fissa porzioni della superficie terrestre. Le immagini multi/iperspettrali acquisite sono in grado di fornire informazioni per differenti campi di applicazione. In questo studio è stato affrontato il tema del consumo di suolo che rappresenta un’importante sfida per una corretta gestione del territorio, poiché direttamente connesso con i fenomeni del runoff urbano, della frammentazione ecosistemica e con la sottrazione di importanti territori agricoli. Ancora non esiste una definizione unica, ed anche una metodologia di misura, del consumo di suolo; in questo studio è stato definito come tale quello che provoca impermeabilizzazione del terreno. L’area scelta è quella della Provincia di Bologna che si estende per 3.702 km2 ed è caratterizzata a nord dalla Pianura Padana e a sud dalla catena appenninica; secondo i dati forniti dall’ISTAT, nel periodo 2001-2011 è stata la quarta provincia in Italia con più consumo di suolo. Tramite classificazione pixel-based è stata fatta una mappatura del fenomeno per cinque immagini Landsat. Anche se a media risoluzione, e quindi non in grado di mappare tutti i dettagli, esse sono particolarmente idonee per aree estese come quella scelta ed inoltre garantiscono una più ampia copertura temporale. Il periodo considerato va dal 1987 al 2013 e, tramite procedure di change detection applicate alle mappe prodotte, si è cercato di quantificare il fenomeno, confrontarlo con i dati esistenti e analizzare la sua distribuzione spaziale., Remote sensing is an effective tool for environmental monitoring, due to sensors that regularly acquire large areas of Earth's surface. Multi/hyperspectral images are able to provide information about different topics. This study focuses on soil sealing: this subject is highly relevant, given its impact on phenomena such as urban runoff, habitat fragmentation and agricultural land take. A unique definition about soil sealing, and a unique method for its measure, does not still exist; the study proposed in this thesis deals with everything that involves soil removing. The area of study is the Province of Bologna that covers 3,702 km2 and is characterized by the Po Valley on the north and the Apennines chain on the south. According to data provided by ISTAT for Italian Provinces, Bologna had the fourth higher soil sealing value between 2001 and 2011. In order to map the phenomenon, five Landsat images have been classified with a pixel-based technique. Even if they have a medium spatial resolution, and thus they are not able to map small objects, they are suitable for large areas; furthermore they provide the opportunity for longer time series. The analyzed period goes from 1987 to 2013 and, through change detection procedures applied to the produced maps, this study has tried to quantify the phenomenon, also comparing it with existing data, in order to understand its spatial distribution.

2013/2014 Gli impianti funiviari sono soggetti alle normative italiane ed europee (PTS Prescrizioni Tecniche Speciali e Normativa Europea) che regolano il funzionamento dell’infrastruttura, sovrastruttura e delle componenti di sicurezza. Il rispetto dei limiti imposti sono determinanti per la sicurezza dell’impianto stesso e delle persone coinvolte. Non tutti questi parametri però, sono controllati durante le periodiche prove di collaudo, nonostante essi siano decisivi per la sicurezza. Si pensi ad esempio alla valutazione dell’entità delle oscillazioni trasversali e longitudinali al senso di marcia, fenomeno che ha causato l’incidente avvenuto su una seggiovia dell’Appennino toscano (gennaio 2015), dove, a causa di un’interruzione di corrente, l’arresto dell’impianto ha innescato un moto oscillatorio tale da far sobbalzare e precipitare alcuni sciatori. La strumentazione satellitare permetterebbe di conoscere la posizione assoluta dell’oggetto monitorato e se integrate da sensori inerziali, di conoscerne anche l’assetto. A partire da queste considerazioni, sono state analizzate delle metodologie innovative GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) e GPS/INS (INertial System), applicate in un settore particolare, quale quello dei trasporti speciali aerei, al fine di caratterizzare in maniera più completa il comportamento dinamico di un veicolo in condizioni critiche (ad esempio a seguito di brusche frenate) e farne un confronto con la normativa vigente. Le componenti hardware del dispositivo GNSS/INS sono state montate all’interno di un contenitore rigido, per facilitarne il trasporto, l’ancoraggio alla seggiola o cabina e per accelerare la fase di rilievo con la Stazione Totale per l’inserimento dei parametri di installazione nel software di elaborazione dati, Applanix POS PAC LV. E’stato quindi implementato un programma ad hoc in ambiente Matlab, per la gestione dei dati, in particolare: per la sincronizzazione fra i vari dispositivi, per la rotostraslazione dei sistemi di riferimento, per l’interpolazione dei dati, per il filtraggio e l’estrazione automatica alcuni particolari eventi. Dai risultati ottenuti è stata dimostrata l’adeguatezza di queste tecniche innovative, con le quali è stato possibile determinare il comportamento dinamico del veicolo, in termini di posizione assoluta (con precisione centimetrica), velocità ed accelerazione effettiva del veicolo (i valori di velocità ed accelerazione visibili sul pulpito di comando della stazione motrice sono riferiti all’argano di trazione e non corrispondono sempre con quelli del veicolo). Implementando le funzioni del programma sviluppato in ambiente Matlab ed ottimizzando alcune procedure,le tecniche GNSS in modalità cinematica interferenziale alle doppie differenze finite e GPS/INS, potrebbero completare le attuali prove di collaudo degli impianti funiviari. Recent epidemiological studies have reinforced the link between short and long-term exposure to air pollutants and adverse effects on public health especially over the weaker part of the population, like children and older adults. The creation of simple tools to locate sensible areas as well as of dedicated Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) to improve the management of pollution risk areas system is strongly advised. The aim of this work is to develop a SDSS methodology, based on easy to find data and usable by decision makers, to assess and reduce the impact of air pollutants in a urban context. To achieve this goals I tested the exploitability of a set of low-cost sensors for outdoor air quality monitoring, I characterized the urban micro-environments and the spatial variability of air pollutants using remote sensing compared to field data and eventually I developed a SDSS to improve the public health designing and comparing different scenarios. The city centre of Edinburgh has been used as study case for the purposed methodology. To test the reliability and applicability of low cost sensors as proxies for remote sensed data, we conducted a measurements campaign to compare the observed data between an official measurements station (OMS) in Trento (Italy) and electrochemical and thick film sensors respectively of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Ozone ($O_3$). Due to data quality and availability we decided to characterize the urban micro-environments of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK) in eight main classes (water, grass, vegetation, road, car, bus, buildings and shadow) combining the Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis (GEOBIA) with Machine Learning algorithms to process the high resolution (0.25m x 0.25m) RGB aerial ortho-rectified images. This land-use characterization combined with other geographical informations, like the classification of the roads and the urban morphology, were compared with 37 Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) concentration data, collected using passive tubes during a six week campaign of measurements conducted by the school of Chemistry of the University of Edinburgh. I developed a new open-source GIS python library (PyGRASS), integrated in the stable release of GRASS GIS, to speed-up the prototyping phase and to create and test new GIS tools and methodologies. Different studies on SDSS were carried out to implement procedures and models. Based on these models and data all the factors (land-use, roads and geo-morphological features) were ranked to identify which are driving forces for urban air quality and to help decision makers to develop new policies. The sensor tested in Trento revealed an evident drift in measurement residues for CO, furthermore the measurements were also quite sensitive to external factors such as temperature and humidity. Since these sensors required frequent recalibration in order to obtain reliable results, their use was not as low-cost as expected. The characterization of urban land-use in Edinburgh with GEOBIA and machine learning provided an overall accuracy of 93.71\% with a Cohen's k of 0.916 using a train/test dataset of 9301 objects. The $NO_2$ data confirm the assumption that air concentration is strongly dependent on geographical position and it is strongly influenced by the position of the pollutant's source. Using the results of the tests and remote sensing analysis, I developed an SDSS. Starting from the current situation, I designed three scenarios to assess the effect that different policies and actions could have on improving air quality at on the local and district level. The outcomes of this work can be used to define and compare different scenarios and develop effective policies to reduce the impact of air pollutants in an urban context using simple and easy to find data. The GIS-based tool can help to identify critical areas before deploying sensors and splitting the study area in homogeneous micro-environments clusters. The model is easy to expand following different procedures.

The necropolis of Olmo di Nogara is one of the most important European Bronze Age burial sites. The most distinguishing peculiarity of the site is the exceptionally high percentage of male burials, with offensive and defensive weapons. The paleopathologic analysis of the male sample showed some skeletons with evidence of traumatic weapon injuries, suggesting the regular occurrence of battles. The analysis of the cranial vault of three individuals has shown the evidence of regular-sized subcircular holes, with bone recalcification. The goal of this research is to develop a multidisciplinary approach for the definition of biometrical characteristics, applying procedures guaranteeing the visualization and communication of paleopathologic processes and, in the same time, the morphological and morphometric characterization of injuries, with accurate, repeatable and unique very high resolution description. Data acquisition and data management were performed using a pipeline with independent steps (procedures and standards). The resulting 3D models were used in the quantitative description of the morphology, in order to extract the anthropometric measurements. Furthermore, Digital Image Processing methodologies were used for the study of bone malformations, improving the photorealistic effect and making possible their perception at different levels of details. Finally, Rapid Prototyping methodologies, following the 3D scans with different systems, allowed to improve the fruition of finds

Over the last decades the impact of natural disasters to the global environment is becoming more and more severe. The number of disasters has dramatically increased, as well as the cost to the global economy and the number of people affected. Among the natural disaster, flood catastrophes are considered to be the most costly, devastating, broad extent and frequent, because of the tremendous fatalities, injuries, property damage, economic and social disruption they cause to the humankind. In the last thirty years, the World has suffered from severe flooding and the huge impact of floods has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, destruction of infrastructures, disruption of economic activity and the loss of property for worth billions of dollars. In this context, satellite remote sensing, along with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), has become a key tool in flood risk management analysis. Remote sensing for supporting various aspects of flood risk management was investigated in the present thesis. In particular, the research focused on the use of satellite images for flood mapping and monitoring, damage assessment and risk assessment. The contribution of satellite remote sensing for the delineation of flood prone zones, the identification of damaged areas and the development of hazard maps was explored referring to selected cases of study.

In this paper, a new semi-automatic procedure to transform three-dimensional point clouds of complex objects to three-dimensional finite element models is presented and validated. The procedure conceives of the point cloud as a stacking of point sections. The complexity of the clouds is arbitrary, since the procedure is designed for terrestrial laser scanner surveys applied to buildings with irregular geometry, such as historical buildings. The procedure aims at solving the problems connected to the generation of finite element models of these complex structures by constructing a fine discretized geometry with a reduced amount of time and ready to be used with structural analysis. If the starting clouds represent the inner and outer surfaces of the structure, the resulting finite element model will accurately capture the whole three-dimensional structure, producing a complex solid made by voxel elements. A comparison analysis with a CAD-based model is carried out on a historical building damaged by a seismic event. The results indicate that the proposed procedure is effective and obtains comparable models in a shorter time, with an increased level of automation.

2012/2013 L’attività di Ricerca svolta durante il ‘Corso di Dottorato in Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale ha riguardato l’attività in collaborazione con il Prof. Radicella presso il Telecommunications/ICT for Development Laboratory (T/ICT4D), the Abdus Salam International Centre of Theoretical Physics, Miramare, e il periodo formativo di tre mesi all’estero presso l’EGNOS Project Office (EPO), sede dell’European Space Agency (ESA) a Toulouse (Francia), sotto la supervisione di Dott. Stefan Schlueter dell’ EPO. Il lavoro svolto, che consiste nello studio dell’effetto della ionosfera sul segnale satellitare di EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System e del conseguente degrado del calcolo della posizione plano altimetrica che ne deriva, si intende come un contributo per l’ottimizzazione di uno dei servizi forniti da EGNOS denominato EGNOS Open Service, ovvero del primo servizio reso disponibile agli utenti a partire dal 2009. Le caratteristiche del servizio EGNOS Open Service sono presentate in un documento ufficiale chiamato EGNOS SDD-OS dell’Agenzia Spaziale Europea. Il suo obiettivo principale è di aumentare l’accuratezza nel posizionamento correggendo i differenti errori che influenzano il segnale GPS a singola frequenza: gli errori di orologio e di orbita dei satelliti e gli errori legati al ritardo di propagazione del segnale in ionosfera. Altre tipologie di errori, come quelli legati alla propagazione del segnale in troposfera e gli errori da multipath, essendo dovuti a effetti locali non possono essere corrette dai sistemi SBASs (Satellite Based Augmentation System). Lo scopo del documento è di suggerire le tecniche e linee guida per i produttori di ricevitori satellitari e di mettere in evidenza l’importanza del posizionamento e delle prestazioni temporali attualmente disponibili per utenti equipaggiati con strumentazione in grado di ricevere sia il segnale di trasmissione GPS in modalità Standard Positioning Service, con utilizzo della sola frequenza L1, sia il segnale fornito da EGNOS. L’importanza di questo lavoro risiede nel fatto che l’EGNOS OS, essendo un Open Service, può facilmente essere usato da differenti utenze, in una vasta gamma di settori quali la navigazione stradale, l’agricoltura di precisione e le applicazioni personali su palmari. Il lavoro svolto quest’anno s’inserisce pertanto in uno degli obiettivi proposti dall’EGNOS SDD OS. L’aspetto fondamentale riguarda i dati ionosferici forniti da EGNOS tramite i messaggi navigazionali MT 18 e MT26. E’ ormai noto come la precisione nel calcolo del posizionamento, che si ottiene mediante un sistema GNSS a singola frequenza, sia dipendente da vari fattori tra i quali quello dominante è legato alla propagazione del segnale in ionosfera. Sebbene i sistemi SBAS, (del quale EGNOS è la componente Europea) abbiano consentito di ridurre notevolmente gli effetti legati a quest'ultima tipologia di errore, anch'essi soffrono di una forte riduzione di prestazioni in condizioni di grande variabilità ionosferica, come quelle legate a alle basse latitudini o alla presenza di tempeste geomagnetiche. Per questo motivo è importante valutare a livello quantitativo le prestazioni di EGNOS in termini di range delay e di posizionamento tramite un adeguato confronto dei dati trattati con software dedicati, come quelli utilizzati dalla scrivente durante i mesi trascorsi all’EPO. Il dato principale fornito da EGNOS consiste nella correzione ionosferica in punti ionosferici di griglia (IGPs). A causa della presenza di punti IGP “non monitorati” in alcune zone dell’area di copertura del sistema (ECAC, European Civil Aviation Conference), non e' possibile calcolare in modo appropriato il ritardo ionosferico nei corrispondenti punti ionosferici (IPPs) in accordo con la tecnica di interpolazione prevista nel documento ufficiale dell’EGNOS, RTCA Do 229C-D Minimal Operational Performance Standard for GPS/WAAS. Questo incide ovviamente sulle prestazioni globali del sistema EGNOS che, in condizioni nominali, presenta una disponibilità massima di punti ionosferici di griglia (IGPs) monitorati nelle zone centrali dell’area ECAC. In questo contesto, il lavoro svoltosi all’EPO si è' diviso in 3 fasi principali: 1. Sono state considerate le possibili aree di miglioramento delle prestazioni del sistema; per queste aree sono state proposte diverse soluzioni di implementazione. Ognuna di queste soluzioni è stata scelta con l’obiettivo di migliorare la disponibilità dell’EGNOS OS e allo stesso tempo di soddisfare le richieste di accuratezza specificate nel documento. 2. Una volta identificate le possibili aree di miglioramento e di studio, sono state valutate le prestazioni associate a ciascuna soluzione proposta, usando un prototipo di ricevitore GNSS. L’utilizzo di un ricevitore/software è motivato dal fatto che questo permette grande flessibilità quando si testano le differenti opzioni. 3. Infine, sulla base della valutazione delle prestazioni ottenute, sono state considerate e discusse le soluzioni in ciascuna area analizzata. Nella prima fase della ricerca è stato studiato una strategia di calcolo per ovviare alla mancanza dei dati di EGNOS ed estendere la disponibilità per i dati di griglia, in particolare nella parte sud della zona ECAC: e’ stato effettuato uno studio delle mappe globali, in particolare quelle fornite dall’International GNSS Service (IGS) e dal CODE, dell’Università di Berna, eseguendo un confronto fra i ritardi ionosferici verticali e quelli obliqui (slant). Lo scopo di questa analisi e' stato quello di determinare il ritardo ionosferico e correggerne l'influenza in un settore critico dell'area ECAC, come quello delle regioni meridionali, a causa dell'assenza dei dati di correzione ionosferica EGNOS. L’obiettivo principale di questa fase è stato quello di confrontare il TEC verticale estratto dai dati EGNOS con quello ottenuto utilizzando le mappe globali di CODE in tutta la zona d’interesse, e infine l'utilizzo dei valori di correzione dei punti di griglia del CODE in sostituzione dei valori mancanti nei punti di griglia non monitorati da EGNOS. L’analisi è stata eseguita per gli anni 2012 e 2013 in giorni caratterizzati sia da condizioni di quiete che da condizioni di tempeste geomagnetiche, in un’area di copertura [40°W, 40°E ] in longitudine e [20°N, 60°N] in latitudine, in modo da valutare quantitativamente in che misura le mappe globali riproducano le condizioni regionali descritte dalla griglia di EGNOS in termini di gradiente spaziale di TEC (sia in longitudine che latitudine). Nella seconda fase della ricerca sono stati calcolati i valori di TEC verticale e obliquo e le coordinate dei punti IPP. In seguito sono stati calcolati i diversi contributi agli IPP ( in termini di TEC) con l’algoritmo di interpolazione bilineare a quattro punti. Sono stati considerati i valori del TEC negli IGPs: - di EGNOS - di CODE - di una griglia sintetica ottenuta sostituendo i dati di CODE nei punti di griglia non monitorati da EGNOS. Utilizzando le diverse correzioni ionosferiche sono stati ricalcolati i valori dei relativi pseudoranges da utilizzare per il calcolo della posizione con correzione WADGPS. I nuovi valori pseudorange così calcolati sono stati inseriti all'interno dei files rinex di diverse stazioni di riferimento, operanti nella parte sud dell’area ECAC. Con l'utilizzo di diversi software utilizzati all’EGNOS Project Office, sono stati valutati gli errori di posizionamento per i diversi modelli di TEC assunti al fine di valutare l’attendibilità delle precisioni planimetriche e altimetriche ottenute. Si è' deciso di usare software di posizionamento flessibili per le varie esigenze che simulassero i ricevitori, in modo da poter applicare le varie correzioni in modo sistematico. Lo scopo dell'attivita' di ricerca svolta, è quello di permettere l’estensione della disponibilità dei dati EGNOS nei valori di griglia in caso di condizioni “non monitorate” del sistema, attraverso lo studio degli effetti dell’impatto ionosferico su EGNOS. Per progettare una modernizzazione delle mappe catastali e delle carte tecniche finalizzata a consentire l’introduzione degli aggiornamenti senza modificarne le coordinate assolute originarie, lo studio è iniziato valutando come utilizzare sviluppi di strutturazione dei dati topografici presenti nel Database Geotopografico, modellizzazioni 3D di fabbricati nelle esperienze catastali INSPIRE, integrazioni in ambito MUDE tra progetti edilizi e loro realizzazioni. Lo studio è proseguito valutando i servizi di posizionamento in tempo reale NRTK presenti in Italia. Inoltre sono state effettuate sperimentazioni per verificare anche in sede locale la precisione e l’affidabilità dei servizi di posizionamento presenti. La criticità della cartografia catastale deriva sostanzialmente dal due fatti: che originariamente fu inquadrata in 850 Sistemi e successivamente fu trasformata in Roma40 con una esigua densità di punti rimisurati; che fino al 1988 fu aggiornata con modalità non rigorose di bassa qualità. Per risolvere tali criticità si è quindi ipotizzato di sfruttare le modalità di rilevamento NRTK per aumentare localmente la densità dei punti rimisurati e reinquadrare le mappe catastali. Il test, realizzato a Bologna, ha comportato un’analisi preliminare per individuare quali Punti Fiduciali considerare coerenti con le specifiche cartografiche per poi utilizzarli e aumentare localmente la densità dei punti rimisurati. Il presente studio si concentra sulle diverse applicazioni del telerilevamento termico in ambito urbano. Vengono inizialmente descritti la radiazione infrarossa e le sue interazioni con l’atmosfera terrestre, le leggi principali che regolano lo scambio di calore per irraggiamento, le caratteristiche dei sensori e le diverse applicazioni di termografia. Successivamente sono trattati nel dettaglio gli aspetti caratteristici della termografia da piattaforma satellitare, finalizzata principalmente alla valutazione del fenomeno dell'Urban Heat Island; vengono descritti i sensori disponibili, le metodologie di correzione per gli effetti atmosferici, per la stima dell'emissività delle superfici e per il calcolo della temperatura superficiale dei pixels. Viene quindi illustrata la sperimentazione effettuata sull'area di Bologna mediante immagini multispettrali ASTER: i risultati mostrano come sull'area urbana sia riscontrabile la presenza dell'Isola di Calore Urbano, anche se la sua quantificazione risulta complessa. Si procede quindi alla descrizione di potenzialità e limiti della termografia aerea, dei suoi diversi utilizzi, delle modalità operative di rilievo e degli algoritmi utilizzati per il calcolo della temperatura superficiale delle coperture edilizie. Tramite l’analisi di alcune esperienze precedenti vengono trattati l’influenza dell’atmosfera, la modellazione dei suoi effetti sulla radianza rilevata, i diversi metodi per la stima dell’emissività. Viene quindi introdotto il progetto europeo Energycity, finalizzato alla creazione di un sistema GeoWeb di supporto spaziale alle decisioni per la riduzione di consumi energetici e produzione di gas serra su sette città dell'Europa Centrale. Vengono illustrate le modalità di rilievo e le attività di processing dei datasets digitali per la creazione di mappe di temperatura superficiale da implementare nel sistema SDSS. Viene infine descritta la sperimentazione effettuata sulle immagini termiche acquisite nel febbraio 2010 sulla città di Treviso, trasformate in un mosaico georiferito di temperatura radiometrica tramite correzioni geometriche e radiometriche; a seguito della correzione per l’emissività quest’ultimo verrà trasformato in un mosaico di temperatura superficiale., This study is focused on various applications of thermal remote sensing in urban environments. Infrared radiation is described first, with the main laws governing the exchange of heat by radiation, the characteristics of infrared sensors and several applications of thermography. Then thermography from satellite platforms is discussed in detail, with particular emphasis on the assessment of the Urban Heat Island phenomenon. The available sensors and different methods for the atmospheric corrections, the estimation of emissivity and the calculation of the surface temperature are subsequently dealt with. Afterwards an experimentation performed over the urban area of Bologna using VNIR and TIR images from ASTER sensor is described: the results show the presence of an Urban Heat Island in the study area, although its magnitude is difficult to estimate. This is followed by the description of potentials and limitations in aerial thermography, of its various applications and of the algorithms used for calculating the roof temperature of buildings. The analysis of some previous experiences allows to highlight the influence of the atmosphere, the modelling of its effects on detected radiance and the different methods to assess emissivity. The Energycity European Project - aimed at developing a GeoWeb spatial decision support system for reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas production in the seven cities involved across Central Europe - is later introduced, describing the procedures for aerial and ground surveys and the processing workflow of digital datasets to create maps of surface temperature to be implemented in the SDSS system. Il territorio italiano presenta una grandissima ricchezza nel campo dei Beni Culturali, sia mobili che immobili; si tratta di un patrimonio di grande importanza che va gestito e tutelato nel migliore dei modi e con strumenti adeguati, anche in relazione ai problemi ad esso legati in termini di manutenzione e di salvaguardia dai fattori di rischio a cui può essere esposto. Per una buona conoscenza del Patrimonio Culturale, è fondamentale un’acquisizione preliminare di informazioni condotte in modo sistematico e unitario, che siano diffuse ed organiche, ma anche utili ad una valutazione preventiva e ad una successiva programmazione degli interventi di restauro di tipo conservativo. In questo ambito, l'impiego delle tecniche e tecnologie geomatiche nel campo dei Beni Culturali, può fornire un valido contributo, che va dalla catalogazione e documentazione del bene culturale al suo controllo e monitoraggio. Oggigiorno il crescente sviluppo di nuove tecnologie digitali, accompagnato dai notevoli passi avanti compiuti dalle discipline della geomatica (in primo luogo topografiche e fotogrammetriche), rende possibile una efficace integrazione tra varie tecniche, favorita anche dalla diffusione di soluzioni per l’interscambio dati e per la comunicazione tra differenti dispositivi. Lo studio oggetto della presente tesi si propone, di approfondire gli aspetti legati all’uso delle tecniche e tecnologie della Geomatica, per mettere in risalto le condizioni di un bene ed il suo stato di degrado. For a good knowledge of the Cultural Heritage it is fundamental to get a previous survey of information run in a systematic and unitary way which are widespread and organic but also useful for preventive assessment and a following planning of the conservative restoration work. In this case, the use of geomatic technologies and techniques in the field of cultural assets, can provide a substantial contribution which includes from the classification and documentation of the cultural asset to its check and monitoring. Nowadays the increasing development of new digital technologies, added by remarkable steps forward got by the subject of geomatic (in the first place the topographic photogrammetric ones), makes possible an efficient integration among varied the techniques, helped also by spread of solutions to improve the data import-export movement and the communication of different devices. The study, subject of this thesis,intends to investigate the aspects linked to the use of the techniques and technologies of Geomatic to focalize the condition of the assets and its deterioration. In order to gain the management and the safeguard of cultural asset we can use the Risk Map, which represents territorial interest sights, this map underlines the dangers linked to the heritage assets, and it explains how these dangers, added to the vulnerability of a single assets, can contribute to the determination of the risk degree.

Oggigiorno le richieste di rilievi tridimensionali e di rappresentazioni 3D ad alta qualità i sono sempre più frequenti, e coinvolgono un numero sempre maggiore di discipline e ambiti applicativi, quali quello industriale, medico, archeologico, forense, museale, ecc., con ulteriori prospettive di allargamento per quanto riguarda la natura ed il numero delle realizzazioni. Il lavoro di ricerca svolto, di natura prevalentemente applicata, vuole andare ad investigare un settore, quello degli oggetti di medie, medio-piccole e soprattutto piccole dimensioni, che, a parere dell’autore, non è stato ancora investigato a fondo;di questo d’altra parte dà riscontro il numero relativamente limitato di lavori presenti in letteratura su questo tema. Sebbene la metodologia di lavoro non sia concettualmente diversa da quella che si adotta comunemente in ambito close range, le problematiche che sono state incontrate nel corso dei diversi casi di studio analizzati nel periodo di dottorato hanno evidenziato la necessità di soluzioni tecniche e metodologiche specifiche, anche in funzione dei requisiti di precisione che competono ad oggetti di piccole dimensioni. Nel corso degli anni, si è visto un allargamento della base di utenti che trovano nel prodotto 3D un importante strumento di lavoro; si pensi alla cinematografia, alla computer grafica, alle simulazioni virtuali a partire da modelli 3D realistici, ecc. Questo trend sembra, al giorno d’oggi, non trovare ancora una battuta d’arresto. Considerando il settore dei Beni Culturali, per esempio, si tratta di un campo di applicazione delle tecniche geomatiche abbastanza ristretto e sostanzialmente nuovo, in quanto le problematiche di documentazione e visualizzazione di beni mobili ed immobili sono in genere indirizzate prevalentemente ad oggetti a scala di edificio, porzione di edificio o elementi quali bassorilievi e statue, comunque con un ordine di grandezza che va da qualche metro alla decina di metri. Qualora, come detto in precedenza, si volesse aumentare ulteriormente la scala di indagine e di rappresentazione, devono essere adottate delle tecniche di rilievo che possano fornire un'adeguata precisione, con strumenti e tecnologie che possano adattarsi alle diverse configurazioni e caratteristiche geometriche. Nella tesi viene dunque affrontata la problematica del rilievo e della modellazione tridimensionale, con alto livello di dettaglio, di oggetti di dimensioni che variano da qualche decina a pochi centimetri; una situazione di questo tipo può aversi in svariati ambiti, che vanno da quello industriale e del design a quello biologico e medico, dall’archeologia ed alla musealizzazione virtuale alle indagini forensi, ecc. Concentrando l’analisi al campo dei Beni Culturali, oggi oggetto di importanti ricerche applicative che trovano impulso anche dallo sviluppo delle nuove tecnologie, sono molto numerose e varie le occasioni in cui operare con oggetti di altissimo valore e dimensioni molto ridotte: un esempio immediato è quello fornito dal rilievo di reperti archeologici, ma nell’ambito del restauro, dell’analisi dei materiali, delle indagini non distruttive, le potenzialità sono di grandissimo interesse.. Comunemente, fino a poco tempo fa, e soprattutto in ambito museale, la documentazione geometrica di un bene culturale mobile di piccole dimensioni si è limitata ad una rappresentazione fotografica, riportante magari elementi metrici minimali, come un righello posto di fianco all’oggetto, in grado di fornire una scala di lettura. Ciò che si è in genere tenuto in scarsa considerazione, ma in grado invece di dare al contenuto informativo quel qualcosa in più rispetto alla semplice fotografia, è l’adozione di metodologie per un rilievo rigoroso e metrico, metodologie che possono essere di grandissimo interesse non solo a fini di studio e divulgazione dell’oggetto (si pensi alla problematica della virtualizzazione della fruizione di beni museali) ma anche per scopi diversi quali la duplicazione e riproduzione di copie dell’oggetto (a scala identica al vero o a scala diversa). Di frequente infatti ci si trova di fronte a problematiche legate alla salvaguardia e conservazione dell’oggetto, in termini di accesso e visione da parte del pubblico, di mantenimento in particolari condizioni microclimatiche, di difficoltà di manipolazione a fini di studio e misura, ecc. Nella tesi sono state prese in considerazione le due tecniche geomatiche che si prestano a soddisfare nel miglior modo possibile i requisiti di correttezza metrica e radiometrica che un rilievo ad elevata precisione richiede. Tali tecniche, rappresentate dalla fotogrammetria digitale con ottiche Macro e dal laser a scansione, in particolare del tipo a triangolazione, sono state sperimentate sul campo , in modo da poter valutarne le potenzialità, non solo alla luce dei risultati finali ottenuti, ma anche considerando i problemi al contorno che esse comportano. Nel corso di numerose sperimentazioni in laboratorio e sul campo sono stati analizzati problemi quali la calibrazione di obiettivi macro e la realizzazione di reticoli speciali atti allo scopo, la qualità dei DSM di origine laser e fotogrammetrica, l’estrazione di caratteristiche morfologiche di microrilievo, le conseguenze della compressione dei dati immagine, la calibrazione radiometrica ed il filtraggio delle immagini digitali, l’allineamento di nuvole di punti con algoritmi ICP.

The knowledge of the ground morphology and how it changes is a fundamental information in many applications, such as urban planning and the design and the environmental impact evaluation of new infrastructures. In the past, the only instrument used by designers was cartography, with height information given by contour lines or points. With the development of technologies the situation has quickly changed and nowadays not only numerical maps are available, but also 3D digital terrain or surface models can be created. These models can be generated in many ways, thanks to the quality achieved in the acquisition of 3D information using technologies such as LIDAR, inSAR, GPS, photogrammetry and remote sensing, even if with a lot of differences in terms of precision, costs and time needed for models creation. Among all these techniques, the use of remote sensing is increasing rapidly for all the cartographic applications, because it could bring advantages in terms of costs reduction, fast data acquisition and elaboration also for big areas. Everything started in 1999, when IKONOS II, the first civil satellite offering a spatial resolution of 1m, was launched. Since then other high resolution satellites were launched, and now they ensure a GSD of less than 1m, a revisiting time of the same area of just few days, multispectral data and along-track stereo acquisition (with imagery being processed using the well known photogrammetric algorithm). However, the possibility of using high resolution satellite imagery strictly depends on several factors: the aim of the work (in terms of accuracy needed), sensor’s characteristics (geometric and radiometric resolution), available products, software used to perform the elaboration. Firstly, images must be oriented and corrected both geometrically and radiometrically to remove all the distortions related to the image acquisition process, to the acquisition system (imaging sensor optical-geometric characteristics, orbital characteristics, attitude parameters, platform position and movement during the acquisition in respect to the Earth’s one) and to the atmosphere refraction. As for the geometric correction, a new image is created, which has scale and projective properties typical of a cartographic representation, in order to assure the metric accuracy of all the data contained. So, two different types of orientation models are generally adopted: the rigorous or physical models, which are linked to the physical-geometrical image acquisition process (for each kind of satellite) and are based on the collinearity equations; the polynomial and rational methods, based on transformations which link terrain and image coordinates without any information about the characteristics of the used satellite. A rigorous model is based on the collinearity equations and reconstructs the orbital segment during image acquisition through the knowledge of the acquisition mode, orbital parameters, attitude angles, interior orientation and self-calibration parameters, atmospheric refraction: all the approximate values are known (some of them are in the metadata file) and their correction could be estimated using the Least Square Method. Rational methods were developed principally because sensor managing companies didn’t reveal technical characteristics of the platforms, so it was impossible to implement a correct rigorous model. Nowadays they approximate very well physical models, so very often also those companies use this solution to give information about sensor geometry without releasing neither the internal orientation parameter nor the physical features related to image processing. The most important method is the Rational Polynomial Function (RPF), which is based on a ratio of two polynomials of various order to model the relation between ground and image coordinates, so representing a generic formulation of the rigorous collinearity equations. The link is created by the Rational Polynomial Coefficients given in the metadata file or calculated directly by the final user thanks to some known ground points (even if this solution shouldn’t be used if high accuracy is needed). However, the knowledge of the coordinate of some ground control points is fundamental both with rigorous and rational models: after the orientation is performed, an accuracy assessment checking the Root Mean Square Error of this dataset must always be performed. As far as radiometric correction is concerned, it is useful to solve all the distortions in the acquired signal due both to sensor’s improper functioning (detectors’ relative brightness, striping, no data pixels and lines) and to external conditions (scene illumination and atmospheric conditions). Next step is related to the height information extraction, which is usually done with automatic procedures (image matching): analyzing all the differences between possible targets and background information, homologous points in the two images are recognized. Different elements could be used as search parameter: the radiance value of each image pixel, geometric features, spatial relations between various kind of features in the imagery. The first case is called Area Based Matching (ABM): a template containing the radiance values of a small area of one image is compared with the values of a moving window in the other image until the highest correlation is found. Region growing is very similar, but it starts the matching from some seed points well distributed on the imagery. Only using also a Least Square Matching it is possible to achieve sub-pixel accuracy, because this technique takes into account also the radiometric and geometrical distortions between template and search window, which always afflicts the data due to the different point of view of the imagery. The second possibility is the Feature Based Matching (FBM): various mathematical operator recognize simple features (such as corners or edges) and compare the created dataset among imagery. The last method is the relational matching, which is the less accurate one: it considers at the same time different relations between all the features in the images (geometrical ones, combinations of simple features, … ). Once the matching is finished, it is possible to calculate 3D coordinates of the recognized points using the parameters of the orientation step; finally, the model is extracted generating a regular grid which can then be used as input data for many applications. In fact, digital elevation models can be generated in three different ways:  irregular points, which don’t contain any height information in the areas among them;  TIN, Triangulated Irregular Network: the irregular points are liked using triangular faces which create a continuous surface;  matrix models (GRID): the space is divided into a regular grid, so for each cell the height value is calculated interpolating the irregular dataset. The GRID model is typical when using imagery as input data and it’s also the most used for digital representation; the most important parameter is the grid size, because its value depends both on input data spatial resolution and on the detail needed by the final model. After the whole process is finished, the extracted model must be validate in order to define its accuracy and so determine its possible field of application (or if it is as precise as requested by the customer). Quality analysis must be performed together with comparisons with check datasets (having accuracy at least of one order better than the one expected for the model) to evaluate standard deviation on residuals between the model and the check data (control points, reference model, breaklines). In this thesis the entire generation process (from imagery orientation to DSM extraction) to generate a very accurate model was evaluated; both commercial and scientific software were tested in order to optimize human, economic and computational resources. Two different in-track high resolution satellite stereo pairs were processed: the first one was acquired over the area of Ferrara in 2004 by IKONOS II (spatial panchromatic resolution of 1m), the other covers the area of Argenta (FE) and it was taken in 2010 by GeoEye-1 (spatial panchromatic resolution of 0.5m). In both cases not only the panchromatic imagery (generally the only input data for DSMs generation) were used but also the multispectral ones (on the contrary generally useful to generate thematic maps). During the analysis different software have been tested, because with available commercial ones good results are achievable concerning stereo orientation, while some drawbacks are inherent to image matching: the commercial software Orthoengine (PCI Geomatics) and the scientific one SISAR (Software per Immagini Satellitari ad Alta Risoluzione) developed by Prof M. Crespi and the team of Geodesy and Geomatic Area - La Sapienza University of Rome and designed for the orientation of high resolution satellite imagery. Some tests inherent to IKONOS II imagery were performed also with ENVI 4.6.1(which gave unsatisfactory results) and the scientific one DPCOR, developed by prof. K. Jacobsen and his team at Leibniz University of Hannover. As far as the orientation is concerned, results with rigorous models show that accuracy of about 0.50.8 pixel in East and North direction and of about 0.81 pixel in Up direction is achievable; SISAR seems to be more stable varying GCPs number and distribution (620 GCPs are sufficient for an area of about 100Km2). The most important thing is the correct identification of the GCPs on imagery, because both software manifest higher errors during test run with point not well recognized (small errors of about 0.50.75 pixel for some points). Test performed with SISAR using rational functions show comparable results; moreover, RPCs generation and refinement don’t give better results, confirming a good pre-processing of the sensor managing companies while generating the RPCs. Finally, Tie Points recognition don’t improve the orientation accuracy. After that, image matching and DSM extraction were performed in small homogeneous areas with scientific software, while with OrthoEngine a full extent model was created. With regard to IKONOS II stereo pair, commercial software had some problems: matching wasn’t satisfactory in dense urban areas and many pixel had wrong height values (peaks and holes far from real ones) due to noise and difficulties during correlation step. Further tests were run with multispectral bands: NIR imagery gave good results, so using GIS software no data and noisy zones of the panchromatic models were edited and corrected merging data with NIR model. Derived DSMs generated with scientific software were less noisy, even if grid extraction is too approximate because it just creates a TIN. Accuracy evaluation was performed both with a set of points collected by kinematic and stop&go GNSS survey with 3D accuracy of 0.3m and with a reference grid of 2x2m with accuracy of 0.6m derived by a photogrammetric flight: calculated RMSEs show gaps of about 2 pixel in rural areas and 4 pixel in urban and vegetation zones. Even if features and infrastructures are well identified, these models aren’t suitable for high accuracy applications. With GeoEye-1 stereo pair only 40% of the whole scene was matched: built-up areas and streets were recognized whereas the major part of the fields were too homogeneous, because in march (when the imagery were acquired) there were just uncultivated fields and wheat plant were too small. This problem was much more important with OrthoEngine, so manual and automatic procedures to solve it were implemented, also using GIS software. Accuracy evaluation, performed as for IKONOS II stereo pair, show errors of about 1.5 pixel in rural area and slightly better than 4 pixel in urban one. The results are comparable to previous ones in terms of pixel residuals, showing an accuracy limit of models derived from high resolution satellite imagery; the great advantage is so represented by pixel size, which is halved in few years let DSMs to reach accuracy of about 1 meter. One of the main goals of this study was the creation of models to be used in the forecast and management of environmental emergencies, because the importance of this field of application is increasing day by day. In fact, the forecasting hydraulic models, which study the outflow of water after, for example, river floods or downpours, need as preliminary input a very good model of the studied area. The DSMs used for this purpose need to reach a very high precision, especially with regards to the correct identification of all the man-made and natural elements, like riverbanks or roads in relief, which may interfere with the outflow of water (deviating or stopping it) or, on the contrary, of all the crosses, which are a preferential way to water’s flow. Furthermore, this demand becomes more important for flat areas, because little errors in height definition could cause important variations in the identification of flooded areas. According to CISIS’s technical guidelines about elevation models, results obtained with both the stereo pairs show that the extracted DSMs aren’t suitable for this purpose, because height values must have an accuracy better than 0.5m (the DSMs extracted are at level 3, while they should be at least at 5). With regard to data derived from GeoEye-1 imagery, they seems to be useful, even if merged with other surveying technologies to acquire in a better and more precise way the characteristics of all the barriers and the crosses. This fact was demonstrated also with simulations run on the same area by the technician of the land reclamation consortium of Ferrara (Consorzio di Bonifica Pianura di Ferrara): in very flat areas (such as the one investigated), in order to obtain a correct identification of flooded areas (both with geographic position and temporal sequence), the correct implementation of barriers and drains network is much more important than the height information of areas in the middle of the hydraulic cell. So, using scientific software it would be possible to obtain a refinement of the matching parameters and procedures in order to create accurate DSMs also starting from imagery with GSD of 0.5 meter; in any case, an accurate editing done by the user and a correct point cloud interpolation is fundamental. On the contrary, because the user can’t generally set all these parameters using commercial software, extracted DSMs should be used only for applications where lower accuracy is needed. In the first part of the thesis all the theoretical aspects are described: after some information about photogrammetry and remote sensing (Chapter 1) and the main characteristics of platforms (Chapter 2), Digital Terrain and Surface Models are discussed (Chapter 3), focusing the attention to the whole generation process performed using high resolution satellite imagery (Chapter 4). The second part presents all the procedures adopted and the results obtained both with the IKONOS II stereo pair (Chapter 5) and the Geoeye-1 imagery (Chapter 6).

L’evoluzione dei sensori multispettrali e la prospettiva di sviluppo dei sensori iperspettrali nel campo del telerilevamento ottico offrono nuovi strumenti per l’indagine del territorio e rinnovano la necessità di ridefinire potenzialità, limiti e accuratezza delle metodologie tradizionali. Nel caso delle immagini iperspettrali, in particolare, l’elevatissima risoluzione spettrale apre nuove possibilità di sviluppo di modelli fisicamente basati per correlare grandezze radiometriche con indicatori fisico-chimici caratteristici delle superfici osservate, a prezzo però di maggiori oneri nella gestione del dato. Il presente lavoro mira appunto ad esaminare, per alcune applicazioni di carattere ambientale e attraverso casi di studio specifici, le criticità del problema del rilevamento da remoto nel suo complesso: dai problemi di correzione radiometrica delle immagini, all'acquisizione di dati di calibrazione sul campo, infine all'estrazione delle informazioni di interesse dal dato telerilevato. A tal fine sono stati sperimentati diversi modelli di trasferimento radiativo ed è stata sviluppata un’interfaccia per la gestione del modello 6SV. Per quest’ultimo sono state inoltre sviluppate routine specifiche per il supporto dei sensori Hyperion e World View 2. La ricerca svolta intende quindi offrire un contributo alla definizione di procedure operative ripetibili, per alcune applicazioni intimamente connesse all’indagine conoscitiva ed al monitoraggio dei processi in atto sul territorio. Nello specifico, si è scelto il caso di studio dell’oasi del Fayyum, in Egitto, per valutare il contenuto informativo delle immagini satellitari sotto tre diversi profili, soltanto in apparenza distinti: la classificazione della litologia superficiale, la valutazione dello stato di qualità delle acque ed il monitoraggio delle opere di bonifica. Trattandosi di un’oasi, le aree coltivate del Fayyum sono circondate dai suoli aridi del deserto libico. La mancanza di copertura vegetale rappresenta una condizione privilegiata per l’osservazione della litologia superficiale da remoto, auspicabile anche per la scarsa accessibilità di alcune aree. Il fabbisogno idrico dell’oasi è garantito dall’apporto di acque del fiume Nilo attraverso una rete di irrigazione che ha, come recettore finale, il lago Qarun, situato nella porzione più depressa dell’oasi. Questo lago, privo di emissari, soffre enormi problemi di salinizzazione, visto il clima iper-arido in cui si trova, e di inquinamento da fertilizzanti agricoli. Il problema della sostenibilità ambientale dello sfruttamento agricolo intensivo dell’oasi è un problema di deterioramento della qualità dell’acqua e della qualità dei suoli. È un problema che richiede una adeguata conoscenza del contesto geologico in cui questi terreni sono inseriti ed una capacità di monitoraggio degli interventi di bonifica ed estensione delle coltivazioni in atto; entrambe conoscenze necessarie alla definizione di un piano di sviluppo economico sostenibile. Con l’intento di contribuire ad una valutazione delle effettive potenzialità del telerilevamento come strumento di informazione territoriale, sono state sperimentate tecniche di classificazione di immagini multispettrali ASTER ed iperspettrali Hyperion di archivio per discriminare la litologia superficiale sulle aree adiacenti al lago Qarun nell’oasi del Fayyum. Le stesse immagini Hyperion di archivio più altre appositamente acquisite sono state utilizzate, assieme ad immagini multispettrali ALI, per la valutazione qualitativa e quantitativa di parametri di qualità delle acque, attraverso l’applicazione di modelli empirici di correlazione. Infine, per valutare l’ipotesi che il deterioramento della qualità delle acque possa essere correlato ai processi di bonifica ed estensione delle coltivazioni in atto negli ultimi decenni, le immagini dell’archivio Landsat sono state utilizzate per analisi di change detection. Per quanto riguarda il problema della validazione dei risultati, si è fatto uso di alcuni dati di verità a terra acquisiti nel corso di un survey preliminare effettuato nell’Ottobre 2010. I campioni di roccia prelevati e le misure di conducibilità elettrica delle acque del lago, benché in numero estremamente limitato per la brevità della missione e le ovvie difficoltà logistiche, consentono alcune valutazioni preliminari sui prodotti ottenuti dalle elaborazioni. Sui campioni di roccia e sabbie sciolte, in particolare, sono state effettuate misure di riflettività in laboratorio ed analisi mineralogiche dettagliate. Per la valutazione della qualità delle acque, più precisamente delle concentrazioni di clorofilla, la metodologia utilizzata per il caso di studio egiziano è stata applicata anche sul tratto costiero adriatico antistante le foci dei fiumi Tronto e Salinello. In questo sito sono state effettuate misure in situ di conducibilità elettrica ed il prelievo di campioni di acqua per la determinazione in laboratorio delle concentrazioni di clorofilla. I risultati ottenuti hanno evidenziato le potenzialità offerte dall’informazione spettrale contenuta nelle immagini satellitari e consentono l’individuazione di alcune pratiche operative. D’altro canto hanno anche messo in luce le carenze dei modelli attualmente esistenti, nonché le criticità legate alla correzione atmosferica delle grandezze radiometriche rilevate.
