In 2019 I designed and taught two iterations of “Plato and Black Feminist Thought”, a special topics version of a course on Plato. It combined a reading of the Republic with texts from the Black feminist tradition with thematic connections to Plato's dialogue. The course seemed to be highly successful both in promoting student engagement generally and as an approach to teaching Platonic philosophy in particular. The impact parenting has on the development of personality is quite known. The influence of emotions on a dysregulation level has been researched and found to influence the same. Earlier research points out that the dismissing meta-emotion philosophies parents hold have impacted the development of various psychological ailments. Evidence also indicates how the parents' emotion-coaching philosophies efficiently aid an individual's development. This article reviews the need to explore and understand the meta-emotion philosophy of parents of individuals diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder to better comprehend the emotional functionality of the parents and the individuals with the diagnosis. The problem of the individuation of laws, identified by Bentham, is dismissed as irrelevant to legal philosophy by some commentators. This paper presents individuation as crucial for understanding the cognitive processes underlying legal interpretation. It draws on the work of Maciej Zieliński and Teun van Dijk to show that legal interpretation is based on deriving legal rules qua semantic macrostructures from a legal text treated as a complex discourse. The Zieliński/van Dijk model also lends theoretical support to the interpretation-construction distinction by explaining, in linguistic terms, the processes that take place during construction. The philosophies of education serve as the guide of the teachers in handling the teaching-learning process. However, a belief will remain as a belief unless it is practiced. This study aimed to find the relationship between the philosophical beliefs and practices of the 30 teachers of the schools in San Roque, Mabini, Bohol - San Roque Elementary School and San Roque National High School, S.Y. 2019-2020. The study utilized a quantitative method descriptive survey research design. The research instrument used was a self-constructed questionnaire in which the reliability was tested by a Cronbach's Alpha using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) software. Simple percentage and weighted mean were some of the statistical treatments used. Kendall's tau_b, a non-parametric test, was used to determine the correlation between philosophical beliefs and their equivalent pedagogical practices. All of the statistical treatments were also run using the SPSS software. Further, the researcher assured the proper observation of the research ethics protocol. Based on the results, the philosophies of Progressivism (3.63) and Perennialism (3.31) were the most and least prevailing philosophical beliefs, respectively. On the other hand, the most and least prevailing philosophies practiced are Progressivism (3.69) and Essentialism (3.19), respectively. Moreover, research findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between the philosophical beliefs of teachers and their pedagogical practices. In conclusion, this study claims that teachers' pedagogical practices are dependent to their philosophical beliefs; and as the teachers believed on a particular philosophy of education, they practice it accordingly to the extent of their adherence to the belief. This paper reveals the interweaving of three traditions—Christian, Manchu, and Han Chinese—in the work of an unduly neglected figure in early modern China, Aisin-Gioro Depei 愛新覺羅·德沛 (1688–1752), who was a Manchu prince, neo-Confucian philosopher, and likely, a hidden Christian. The analysis demonstrates that Depei developed a particular syncretic philosophy based on the rational theology that he learned from the works of a significant Jesuit missionary, Giulio Aleni (1582–1649, 艾儒略), notably Aleni's Xingxue cushu 性學觕述 (A Brief Introduction to the Study of Human Nature). Using resources from Christian and Confucian traditions, Depei puts forward an approach, which marks the continuation of the cross-cultural interpretation movement launched by the missionaries since the late Ming. The novelty of additive manufacturing (AM) involves new requirements, restrictions and rules, that are considerably different to those of conventional manufacturing methods. Therefore, designers often lack experience and knowledge about identifying AM-suited components. However, to ensure profitability, it is essential to choose components, that are well suited for additive manufacturing. State-of-the-art user-support methods for identifying AM potential widely focus on either economic potential or manufacturability but fail to address both aspects. While machine learning solutions are considered highly efficient, the assessment outcome lacks process transparency, inhibiting troubleshooting, plausibility checks and problem-oriented considerations. This paper proposes a holistic, yet detailed and transparent approach to identify conventionally manufactured parts for AM from an existing product portfolio, enabling decision-making based on quantifiable results. It combines and advances state-of-the-art methods, considering manufacturability, economic profitability and socio-ecological aspects. Besides evaluating AM potential, the method additionally assesses the components' potential for re-design-based enhancement for AM suitability. Besides understanding product functions and present production processes, users are expected to have a basic understanding of company goals. The approach involves inquiries regarding company- and product-specific priorities, enabling a weighted assessment. The weights are determined based on individual company philosophies regarding AM value propositions such as differing stakeholder interests and priorities. Additionally, the approach allows users to investigate different development goals by weighting opportunistic and restrictive assessment. In this paper I discuss the problem of the meanings of the verb 'be' in Plato's Timaeus. My claim is that, at least in that dialogue, existence emerges as the main and autonomous meaning of the verb 'be', contrary to the widespread view first defended in a series of studies by Charles Kahn according to which, in the Greek language and in Plato's philosophy, the verb 'be' basically has a copulative-predicative and, more specifically, a truth-related meaning. I consider and examine some passages from the Timaeus (27d5–28a4, 29b3–c3, 37e3–38b3, 51b7–52a7) where the concept of existence seems to be expressed in a clear and definite way by the use of the verb 'be.' I conclude by making some remarks on how we should understand the notion of existence, not least with reference to the problem of truth, within Plato's philosophy and the Timaeus in particular. In Le Dépaysement, an essay that is characterised by a decentred gaze over the near and the local and whose idea was born during a trip abroad in New York, Jean-Christophe Bailly travels around France in search of national identity. Against essentialist views of nation, his fieldwork leads him to a hollow shell of national identity, straddling the past and the future. Based on Henri Bergson's theory of memory, we argue that the text relies on an individuation closely related to the memorial appropriation of the territory while suggesting a polymorphous and dynamic national identity. As memories repeat the past or usefully complement the current perception, discrete reference points not only reinforce the sense of territorial belonging, but also strengthen connections between the individual and the collective and, in so doing, help build the national community. The role of transindividuation is one of many key elements in Stiegler's thought. It concerns how expectations of a future (protentions) are generated and how collective protentions coalesce in a horizon. Transindividuation, as an individual and collective process of becoming, provides the means by which the local begins to enter into the mix of the global rendered as planet and biosphere. Therein resides a number of processes accelerating and perpetuating the various crises bundled together under the rubric of the Anthropocene: a rubric teeming with metonymic shorthands for the various crises facing humanity and its existence on the earth in the first quarter of the twenty-first century. In this article, the authors ask what becomes of the urban in light of the acceleration of extant technologies for visualization and calculation—the very organization of locality, its scales and volumes? In raising this question, we argue that spaciousness becomes not only an ontological concern but also an epistemological and biotechnological one straddling material and noetic localities. Purpose: This paper aims to show that evolutionary game theory not only provides a general and unified theory of political philosophy and strategic management theories but also a positive theory of interactive behavior. Design/methodology/approach: This study suggests a way of the evolutionary game-theoretical model. Findings: The model presented in this paper demonstrates coopetition is derived from balance points in multi-actor games. As the political–philosophical address of those strategic games will of all becomes convention in this balance point at which common knowledge occurs global optimum. Research limitations/implications: This study explores the connections between several streams in philosophy and strategic management. What does a particular philosophy contribute to strategic management with respect to game theory? When addressing this question in historical or exploratory terms, or in a combination of both, the end result is similar: particular philosophical issues, properly explained, are discussed in relation to important questions in strategic management. Practical implications: What are the psychological and behavioral underpinnings of strategic decisions of this kind? What type of cognitive frames and managerial mental models, such as the game-theoretical model, might enable or hinder the integration of real-world problems in strategic decision-making? Social implications: What explains the evolution of such mental models, as well as the development of philosophical ideas, in informing the origins? How does the evolution of social and political contexts influence change in the cognitive and behavioral underpinnings of strategic decision-making? Originality/value: This study highlights the overt power of strategic management ideas – competition, cooperation and coopetition – which have historically been built on the foundations of organizational theory, while also underlying the potential of philosophies, collective wisdom and Condorcet's jury theorem and Rousseau's (1998) correctness theory in games of evaluation. Background: Patient simulation has been used in medical education to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for learners to practice clinical and interpersonal skills. However, simulation involving pediatric populations, particularly in child and adolescent psychiatry, is rare and generally does not reflect the child-caregiver dyad or the longitudinal aspects of this care, nor does it provide learners with an opportunity to engage with and reflect on these dynamics. Methods: We organized as an educational opportunity a series of seven observed patient simulation sessions with a cohort of a dozen child and adolescent psychiatrists (eight fellows approaching graduation and four senior educators). In these sessions, we utilized the co-constructive patient simulation model to create the simulation cases. We included the use of at least two patient actors in most sessions, and two of the case narratives were longitudinally followed across multiple simulation sessions. We approached the data collected during the simulations and their respective debriefings by using thematic analysis informed by a symbolic interactionist approach. Results: Based on data from the debriefing sessions and longitudinal narratives, we identified four overarching themes: (1) Reflecting on dyadic challenges: role reversal and individuation; (2) Centering the child, allying with the parent, and treating the family system; (3) Ambivalence in and about the parent-child dyad; and (4) Longitudinal narratives and ambivalence over time. Conclusion: The emotional experience of the simulations, for interviewers and observers alike, provided an opportunity to reflect on personal and professional experiences and triggered meaningful insights and connections between participants. These simulated cases called for emotional labor, particularly in the form of creating holding environments; in this way, the simulated encounters and the debriefing sessions became dialogic experiences, in which the patient and provider, parent and child, and learner and instructor could co-construct meaning and foster professional development as reflective practitioners. It is often thought that Aristotelian hylomorphism was undermined in the early modern era by the external challenges that alternative atomist and corpuscularian matter theories posed. This narrative neglects the fact that hylomorphism was not one homogeneous theory but a fruitful, adaptable framework that enabled scholastic Aristotelianism to continuously transform itself from within and resolve new natural philosophical, metaphysical, and theological problems. I focus on the period of the Counter-Reformation and rise of Protestant scholastic metaphysics. During this time accounting for the individuation of substances within a hylomorphic framework consistent with Aristotle's texts, the doctrine of the Trinity, and Aristotelian physics became both urgent and more challenging. I show that Protestant scholastics who took up influential late sixteenth-century Jesuit accounts of individuation so altered the hylomorphic framework inherited from medieval philosophers that atomism appeared to at least one author as more consistent with Aristotle's metaphysical commitments. According to N. Goodman, the Carnapian notion of similarity is useless in science and without interest for philosophy. In our paper we suggest that, given the current role that the notion of similarity has in managing biomedical big data, this drastic position should be revised, and similarity should be provided a scientifically useful philosophical interpretation. With the advent of the new sequencing technologies, imaging technologies and with the improvements of health records, the number of genomics, post-genomics and clinical data has exponentially increased. The deluge of data has urged, among others, to devise a new way of stratifying patients. A solution has been found and it is based exactly on the notion of similarity. By discussing two examples focusing on similarity among breast cancer patients, in the paper we illustrate such a use, and analyze it from a philosophical standpoint by resorting to A. Tversky's features matching approach. We believe that the latter can foster some better understanding of the meaning and current use of similarity in the context of biomedical big data, and that, therefore, be the focus of further reflections in the philosophy of science, in particular in the philosophy of biomedicine. This paper problematizes notions of good/bad mothering by putting to work Deleuze and Guattari's haecceity. Focusing on babywearing, it presents an autoethnography of my experiences of becoming-mother during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using diffractive analysis, I analyze the entanglement of my experiences of babywearing, research diaries, images/selfies, the regulations introduced during the pandemic, and the "global cultural script" of being a good mother. It works toward a position of (k)not knowing, being open to the unknown. Under the lens of haecceity, becoming-mother is "thisness"—a middle, knotting, and unknotting, ever emergent. This study investigated the attitude of Romanian medical students and doctors toward business ethics by measuring the preference for a particular ethical philosophy, namely, the preference for Machiavellianism, moral objectivism, social Darwinism, ethical relativism, and legalism. At the same time, this study aimed to explore the influence of sex, age, and ethics education on the attitude toward business ethics. The data collection was performed using a voluntary self-administered online survey including the Attitudes Toward Business Ethics Questionnaire (ATBEQ) instrument. Our findings show that the values based on which Romanian medical students and doctors make business decisions belong predominantly to the moral objectivism philosophy, which is grounded on rational actions based on a set of objective moral standards. There is a straightforward view of perception that has not received adequate consideration because it requires us to rethink basic assumptions about the objects of perception. In this paper, I develop a novel account of these objects—the sensible qualities—which makes room for the straightforward view. I defend two primary claims. First, I argue that qualities like color and shape are "ontologically flexible" kinds. That is, their real definitions allow for both physical objects and mental entities to be colored or shaped. Second, a single instance of these qualities can be attributed to more than one entity. Just as we attribute the same instance of a material property to a statue and to the clay that constitutes it, single instances of sensible qualities should be attributed both to the physical objects perceived and to the perceptual states that have those instances as their objects. Fundamental disagreement is at the core of many debates surrounding epistemic relativism. Proponents of epistemic relativism argue that certain disagreements are irresolvable because proponents base their views on fundamentally different epistemic principles and, thus, fundamentally different epistemic systems. Critics of epistemic relativism argue that this analysis is wrong since the particular epistemic principles in question are most of the time derived from or instances of the same, more basic, epistemic principle. With regard to the individuation of epistemic systems, there is, thus, an impasse within the epistemic relativism literature. It is the aim of this article to employ the recently developed notion of 'situated judgments' as well as the concepts of 'world-traveling' and 'epistemic friction' to provide an epistemic agent-based, dynamic account of disagreeing and thereby also contribute to the question of how to individuate an epistemic system. Carlos Castaneda has been studied mostly as a fraud anthropologist, novelist/philosopher and a contributor to the emerging phenomenon of neo-shamanism. Instead, this article focuses on Castaneda's individual philosophy and religious system as developed in his written works. A threefold classification is proposed—early, transitional, and late works, complete with chief characteristics of each. The analysis shows how Castaneda slowly drifted from the scholarly style through stress on the narrative to full-fledged religious texts. These changes also reflect on Castaneda's personal life; from academic ambition through public scandal 'debunking' his counterfeit works to the formation of a little new religious movement, of which Castaneda was a charismatic leader. Unlike most scholarly analyses of Castaneda that focus mainly on the early writings, this article takes into serious consideration his late works and shows that it was here that the author fully developed as a religious thinker and guru. The topic of vulnerability has been the subject of intense scholarly interest and work, especially in feminist theory. It circulates in academic and nonacademic contexts, spans many disciplines, including both applied fields and highly theoretical ones, and in philosophy in particular has been taken up in multiple subfields and approaches to the discipline. The concept's widespread appeal might stem from the sense that vulnerability is intensifying, or at least from a heightened awareness of it. In any case, vulnerability's salience lies in how it names something significant about the world and suggests different ways that something ought to be addressed. That is, vulnerability's appeal lies in its normative pertinence or efficacy, in how the concept seems to hold the possibility of both diagnosing ethical failures and forging different, more adequate ethical responses to the injustices we witness and/or face. The purpose of the research is to know more about the implamentation and steps of the step of the insya’ Usbuie program and also to find out what factors support and hinder it’s implementation. Is the study, researchers use a field qualitative approach. While the kind of research that is used is research with the kind of case study. Southern Italy represents more than just a theme in Iwaszkiewicz's writing. It is a place of choice where it was possible for the writer to return to himself, to his artistic and autobiographical origins. It represents the manifestation of desire and the possibility of its fulfilment through words. In Sicily, in particular, the writer could rediscover the dimension of the lost Ukraine of childhood. The essay explores these issues by relating the writer's poetics and Weltanschauung to certain ideological cornerstones of Nietzsche's philosophy: in particular, the concepts of Apollonian and Dionysian. Diachronic emergence has recently been characterised as transformation. This aims to capture the thought that the entities that emerge are radically new or different. Transformation is hence closely linked with a central (but rarely raised) challenge for all emergentists: how to account for the identity and individuation of entities involved in emergence. With this challenge in view, I develop and probe four interpretations of transformation: addition, replacement, fusion, and transubstantiation. Of those, transubstantiation provides the most plausible response to the challenge about identity. The present article demonstrates the philosophical gains Arthur Schopenhauer and Karoline von Günderrode derive from the Western conceptions of individuation they read into Indian thought. Schopenhauer represents much of 19th‐century German Orientalism—including that of Herder and Friedrich Schlegel—insofar as his Idealism focuses upon Indian "antirealism" or the view that contrasts the unreality of finitude with a higher, ultimate reality. In particular, he subsumes all individuated forms—including individual subjectivity—under the Indian concept māyā, or "illusion" as understood by the Hindu school Advaita. Günderrode, on the contrary, privileges the Indian concept of saṃsāra, or cyclical reincarnation, which in her understanding exemplifies a then uncommon interpretation of Indian thought as "realist," or committed to the truth of appearances and the value of finitude. With regard to Hindu belief, Günderrode's conception of individuation as participation in reality therefore resonates with the materialist school of Hinduism Vaiśeṣika, as well as Advaita's directly competing school, Viśiṣṭādvaita. The article discusses film director Scott Barley's film "Sleep Has Her House" and philosopher Gilbert Simondon's philosophy which offers new perspectives and approaches to film studies. Simondon helps to conceive of cinema in its ongoing technical, aesthetic, and phenomenal development. Simondonian method has applications to and implications for digital cinema. The concept of individuation resonates with the processual nature of digital images, which are captured and rendered in real-time.

This article is a tribute to Professor John Sadler, who served as the editor of Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology for many years. In a previous Special Issue of I Religions i that focused on religious diversity, the Editors contrasted the "normative framework that rules religious pluralism" with "a descriptive notion of religious diversity" ([7]). As a concept, diversity is fundamentally oriented towards tracing difference; in this sense, the authors primarily understand it as a descriptive concept that denotes the multiplicity of identities in modern society. This paper will present the notion of "individual" according with the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas seeking to identify the questions involving this notion. First, as an introduction, we observe this notion in general in some philosophical theories, but after we entered properly in the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. Only the individuation of the corporal substance will be presented, because Thomas have a different theory to the incorporeal substances, such as the angels, God and the separated souls. So, the Thomas's theory claims that the principle of individuation is the signaled matter, but such signaled matter is that which is considered as having certain dimensions. Our main concern will be to identify what means the expression "certain dimensions". We will use an explanation few habitual to clear this problem. Since that Thomas says that, in the hilemorphism, the matter receive the being from form, we will defend that there's a conjunct of proprieties of the matter that receive the being from form. With heightened equity pursuits in 21st century schools and the key role of assessment in teachers' concerns with educational equity, scholars have recently attempted to empirically investigate teachers' conceptions of fairness in classroom assessment. This study contributes to this growing literature and draws on interview data from 27 experienced high school teachers to further appreciate the factors that propel teachers' fairness conceptions. The results indicate that the teachers' conceptions of fairness in classroom assessment were influenced by three themes: (a) individual mechanisms, (b) social mechanisms, and (c) dialectical relationships between individual and social mechanisms. These themes underscored how teachers' individual philosophies and experiences interacted with their encounters with social conditions of society, schools, and classrooms to influence their conceptions and articulated practices of fairness in classroom assessments. The concept of community within Confucianism is deeply rooted in its unique understanding of individuals. This is exemplified by Xunzi, who claims that individuals, driven by their growing desires for satisfaction, would fight over limited resources and hence lead themselves to social disorder and distress. Thus, he evaluates human nature to be evil, thereby highlighting the necessity of forming a community. Keeping in view Xunzi's aims of establishing a harmonious co-existence amongst individuals who "desire or hate the same things" (yuwu tongwu 欲恶同物), this paper explores his considerations and justifications when accessing the individual and the community. Firstly, the origins of community arise from the survival crises of individuals in the state of nature. As individuals face the dilemma of disorder, they opt to form a community. This would, to a certain extent, endow individuals with rationality and the capacity to suppress their desires, therefore differentiating them from animals. Secondly, the principle of fen 分 (social division) is important in maintaining social order and uniting individuals under the governance of the jun 君 (lord). Differentiated justice embodied in the concept of fen also presents a contrast from the universal implications of qun 群 (community). Following social distinctions and affiliations, people are then absorbed into the ritual structure and social relationships as embedded individuals. Thirdly, realizing the common good would depend on the moral transformation of individuals and their identification with values that define an ideal community on a spiritual level, ultimately reflecting the essence of ancient Chinese universalism. In recent years, the sustainability crisis has raised interest in the concept of resilience, i.e., the capacity to persist, adapt, or transform in the face of change and challenge. However, to date, resilience has only been studied to a limited extent within early childhood education and care (ECEC). This paper reports on a study that used critical document analysis of national and international policies to explore if and how the concept of resilience within ECEC could contribute to sustainability in a world of rapid change. Five national and four international documents were analysed through the theoretical lenses of childism and place-based education. The results show that resilience is implicitly expressed in ECEC policies yet is rarely linked to sustainability issues. Instead, policies mainly limit resilience to the psychological dimension and the individual child. The conclusion is that ECEC is an apt context for supporting resilience in multiple ways. It suggests using a holistic understanding of resilience to advocate for ECEC policies that include diverse perspectives of families and local communities, incorporate indigenous voices, and recognise the interconnectedness between humans and the more-than-human world. To oversimplify quite a bit, scholars’ presentation of Hegel’s teleology constitutes a continuum according to how more-or-less secured the progress towards the goal is supposed to be, which tracks roughly the nature of the end and its necessity. In this article, rather than focus on the end and progress towards it, we will focus on the means and structure of teleological relationships on Hegel’s account. This focus follows from an essential feature of Hegel’s discussion of teleology in the Logic, in which teleology is introduced to solve a problem in the individuation of entities. It will turn out that the fullest actualization of the end is in the durable means, which is also thereby individuated. And it will turn out that the paradigmatic historical means—the state—is tensed, as it were, between the end and its realization that makes it synchronically historical. This synchronic historicity is missing in the usual progressive and thus diachronic accounts of the teleological process of history. But first we step back even farther (at least historically). We begin by taking up the two most important philosophical accounts of teleology for Hegel, namely those of Aristotle and Kant. Then we go to Hegel’s Logic for his reconstruction of teleological processes against the background of the explanatory need for individuation. We focus on four aspects of Hegel’s account: that teleology is a structure of reciprocal interaction, that the purpose is an immanent governing principle, that change is the price of immanence, and that the durable means is the teleological object par excellence. Finally, we trace these features through Hegel’s account of world history and conclude with some brief remarks on the historicity of the state described in the Philosophy of Right. The philosopher Lev Shestov aimed to establish a new free way of thinking, which manifested itself as a struggle against the delusion that we have a rational grasp of the necessary truths on matters that are of the greatest importance to us, such as the questions of life and death. Philosophy, as the Russian philosopher understood it, is not pure thinking, but 'some kind of inner doing, inner regeneration, or second birth' (Shestov in Lektsii po Istorii Grecheskoi Filosofii [Lectures on the history of Greek philosophy], YMCA-PRESS, Moscow, 2001, p. 53). Having adopted the notion of the 'regeneration of one's convictions' from Dostoevsky's vocabulary in his earlier works, Shestov developed the idea of 'awakening' further in his mature thought, in which the motif of 'awakening' comprised one of the main ideas of his philosophy: the fight for the individual's right to freedom and to creative transformation at a time when she is in despair or on the brink of death. In this article, I analyse Shestov's idea of 'awakening' as one of the key tropes and developmental characteristics of his philosophical vision. In particular, I argue that, having stemmed from Shestov's earlier interpretations of Dostoevsky, Shakespeare and Plotinus, in his later writings, the notion of 'awakening'—the possibility of a fundamental, inner transformation of one's worldview (probuzhdenie, pererozhdenie)—marked the beginning of a new salvific mode in his writing. Purpose: Navigated, gap-balanced adjusted mechanical alignment (AMA) including a 0° varus tibial cut and modification of angles and resections of the femoral cuts to obtain optimal balance accepting minor axis deviations. Objectives of this study were (1) to analyse to what extent AMA achieves the goals for leg alignment and gap balance, and (2) in what percentage non-anatomical cuts are needed to achieve these goals. Methods: Out of 1000 total knee arthroplasties (TKA) all varus knees (hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle < 178°; n = 680) were included. All surgeries were performed as computer assisted surgery (CAS) in AMA technique. CAS data at the end of surgery were analysed with respect to HKA and gap-sizes. All bone cuts were quantified. Depending on the amount of deformity, a subgroup analysis was performed. It was analysed whether the amount of deformity influences the non-anatomical cuts by correlation analysis. Results: AMA reached the goals for postoperative HKA (3° corridor) in 636 cases (93.5%). While extension and flexion gap balance were achieved in more than 653 cases (96%), flexion and extension gap size were equalled in 615 knees (90.4%). The resections of the lateral tibia plateau and distal and posterior medial femoral condyle were anatomical (Tibia: 7.0 ± 1.7 mm; medial condyle distal: 7.8 ± 1.4 mm; medial posterior: 8.2 ± 1.8 mm). The number of non-anatomical resections for those cuts were low; 67 (9.9%); 24 (3.5%); 32 (4.7%). For the medial tibia plateau and the lateral posterior condyle, the cuts were non-anatomical in a high percentage of cases; Tibia: 606 (89.1%), lateral posterior condyle: 398 (58.5%). Moderate but significant correlations were found between resection differences and amount of deformity (medio-lateral: tibia: 0.399; distal femur: 0.310; posterior femur: 0.167). No correlations were found between resection differences and gap values. Conclusion: AMA reaches the intended target for HKA and gap balance in over 612 (90%) of cases and maintains the medial femoral condyle anatomically. Non-anatomical tibial resection causes increased external rotation of the femoral component and by that non-anatomical cut of the posterior lateral condyle. Nonanatomical resections of AMA might be one reason for the persisting high rate of unsatisfied patients after TKA.
