Objectives: Ghana’s quest to reduce neonatal mortality, in hospital facilities and communities, continues to be a nightmare. The pursuit of achieving healthy lives and well-being for neonates as enshrined in Sustainable Development Goal three lingered in challenging hospital facilities and communities. Notwithstanding that, there have been increasing efforts in that direction. This study examines the contributing factors that hinder the fight against neonatal mortality in all hospital facilities in the Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipal Assemblies in Bono Region, Ghana. Methods: The study utilized neonatal mortality data consisting of neonatal deaths, structural facility related variables, medical human resources, types of hospital facilities and natal care. The data was collected longitudinally from 2014 to 2019. These variables were analysed using the negative binomial hurdle regression (NBH) model to determine factors that contribute to this menace at the facility level. Cause-specific deaths were obtained to determine the leading causes of neonatal deaths within health facilities in the two municipal assemblies. Results: The study established that the leading causes of neonatal mortality in these districts are birth asphyxia (46%), premature birth (33%), neonatal sepsis (11%) and neonatal jaundice (7%). The NBH showed that neonatal mortality in hospital facilities depend on the number of incubators, monitoring equipment, hand washing facilities, CPAP b machines, radiant warmers, physiotherapy machines, midwives, paediatric doctors and paediatric nurses in the hospital facility. Conclusions: Early management of neonatal sepsis, birth asphyxia, premature birth and neonatal infections is required to reduce neonatal deaths. The government and all stakeholders in the health sector should provide all hospital facilities with the essential equipment and the medical human resources necessary to eradicate the menace. This will make the realization of Sustainable Development Goal three, which calls for healthy lives and well-being for all, a reality.

Objective Identifying hot spots for the overweight aids in effective public health interventions due to the associated public health burden and morbidities. This study, therefore aimed to explore and determine the spatial disparities in the overweight/obesity prevalence among women in Ghana. Background: Global fight against tuberculosis (TB) has received increasing attention over the years. However, the disease remains one of the top-most global health problems, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa and Ghana. Aims: This paper examined geographical (regional) and seasonal distribution of TB cases providing relative risk of TB exposure in Ghana and step by step procedure to perform the analysis. Methods and material: We modelled reported TB cases between 2015 and 2018 using wavelet analysis and applied maximum covariance analysis (MCA) to determine regional and seasonal patterns and the risk of TB exposure in Ghana. This study is based on the old administrative regions of Ghana. Results: More TB cases were recorded in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions and less cases in the rest of the regions. There is significant increase in the number of TB cases from 2015 to 2018. High number of TB cases is observed in the dry season relative to the rainy season. There is high variability in TB prevalence with high prevalence moving towards the Southern part of Ghana. Conclusion: The study highlights that TB cases is clustered in space and time and that even at small spatial scale, differences in prevalence can be substantial. The prevelance of TB exposure is higher in the dry season relative to the rainy season. Hence, enough resources should be timely provided during the dry season as well as intensifying preventive strategies to control the spread of the disease. Objective: In developing countries, malnutrition is a noteworthy concern related to the well-being of people, and this study aimed to determine the factors that affect malnutrition among children below 5 years in Ghana., Design: The study used a secondary data source, specifically the Ghanaian Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey Six (MICS 6), which was conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service in 2017-2018. The MICS data are hierarchical, as children are categorised within households, and households are further grouped within a higher cluster, violating the independence assumption that must be addressed in the analyses. This study used a Bayesian multilevel ordinal logistic regression to model, identify and analyse the factors linked to child malnutrition in Ghana., Setting: The setting of the study was the household level across the previous 10 administrative regions in Ghana., Participants: Data for 8875 children under 5 years were used for the study. The data were gathered from households in all 10 administrative regions of Ghana using a sampling procedure consisting of stratification and random selection to ensure national representation., Results: The results showed that the Northern Region of Ghana had the highest occurrence rate of severe and moderate malnutrition, and factors such as the count of children's books or picture books, whether the child experienced fever in the last 2 weeks, age and sex of the child, and the child's household wealth index quintile were strongly linked to malnutrition among Ghanaian children., Conclusion: These findings underscore the intricate interplay of factors contributing to child nutrition in Ghana and suggest that addressing malnutrition necessitates a comprehensive approach that considers factors such as access to healthcare and reading materials, household wealth, and other social and environmental factors., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2023.
