- Abstract
These biological mechanisms of human motor control also exist in myoelectric prosthesis users; however, they are substantially disturbed in this group. This is partially due to the lack of tactile sensations from the artificial hand. Therefore, the main goal of this research was to develop a noninvasive, artificial feedback scheme, using a vibrotactile stimulation device as a communication interface, that facilitates both predictive and corrective biological processes responsible for the successful grasping, with the appropriate force, and to assess its relevance in realistic conditions. To this aim, the research was divided into three phases. In the first phase, a nonlinear mapping between the myoelectric control signal and the prosthesis grasping force was implemented and compared to a more conventional, linear mapping. In a group of 20 non-disabled subjects, it was demonstrated that the nonlinear mapping resulted in a higher success rate when predictively controlling the prosthesis grasping force compared to linear mapping (62.4±16.8% versus 49.2±17.2%). In the next phase, a novel, combined feedback scheme was introduced, where the intensity of muscle contraction was conveyed to the subjects while closing the prosthesis (predictive control), whereas after the contact, the feedback switched and the vibrotactile stimuli started transmitting the information about the actual grasping force (corrective control). A group of 16 non-disabled subjects performing a functional task achieved the highest success rate in generating the desired grasping force when using the combined feedback (79.6±9.9%), whereas the success rate was the lowest when the vibrotactile stimulation was completely turned off (53±11.5%). The aim of the final phase of this research was to demonstrate the clinical translation of the proposed closed-loop control of a myoelectri

The physiological data acquisition system described in this paper is developed for the purposes of student laboratory exercises in biomedical engineering program. The system has the functionality of electrocardiography and electromyography monitoring and can be used as a photoplethysmograph. Alongside the portability, other significant capabilities of the system are concerned with the resources that allow the system’s complete functionality without the cable connections to other devices. Besides, the system's open architecture enables various types of expanding and modifications, which is suitable for student project realizations.

Electromyography (EMG) is a well known technique used for recording electrical activity produced by human muscles. In the last few decades, EMG signals are used as a control input for prosthetic hands. There are several multifunctional myoelectric prosthetic hands for amputees on the market, but so forth, none of these devices permits the natural control of more than two degrees of freedom. In this paper we present our implementation of the pattern classification using custom made components (electrodes and an embedded EMG amplifier). The components were evaluated in offline and online tests, in able bodied as well as amputee subjects. This type of control is based on computing the time domain features of the EMG signals recorded from the forearm and using these features as input for a Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) classifier estimating the intention of the prosthetic user. - Abstract
Polazeći od ovako definisanog globalnog zadatka, istraživanja u radu su izložena u okviru devet poglavlja., Based on the needs of development and research of high-speed motor-spindles, it can be concluded that a complex approach to this assembly is necessary as a complex mechanical system, which directly affects the behavior of the machine tool in exploitation. A complex approach should enable the thermal-mechanical behavior of machine tools to be predicted at the design stage. As the main spindles with high-speed rolling bearings are still the most represented construction solutions, the task of this work is to analyze the motor-spindle from the point of view of thermal-mechanical behavior, and to create a complex thermal-mechanical model of the motor-spindle assembly. On the example of a high-speed motor-spindle assembly, supported by ball bearings with oblique contact, it is desired to verify the defined model for the identification of thermal-mechanical behavior and analyze the influence of temperature on its static and dynamic characteristics through experimental testing. The work also analyzes the influence of different fluids for cooling the motor-spindle, as well as the influence of the amount of fluid flow both for cooling the stator and for cooling and lubricating the bearings. Starting from the global task defined in this way, the research in the paper is presented in nine chapters.

The subject of this paper is the system scanning and 3-D model determination. The main purpose of the proposed system is a 3-D model reconstruction of agricultural products. The purpose of these models is the determination of examined product dimensions and calculation of other relevant parameters such as volume or shape. In addition to physical characteristics, the system allows the analysis of the product colors which are one of the most important parameters. The paper describes details of the pinhole camera model that is used during calibration and scanning, which allows the removal of image distortions resulting from the imperfection of optics (lens distortion). Calibration procedures are presented with one camera as well as with stereo cameras. It is possible to determine the point in real space and to create a model of the observed object by using stereo triangulation and camera model parameters. Finally, we show the results of the system operation as well as possible improvements which can increase performance.

Portal scraper is machine widely used for bulk material supply of industrial facilities. Its performance is usually highly dependable on the ability of human operators since it relies on manual operation for some of its most sensitive functions. Fully automated portal scrapers with appropriate solutions for critical operation situations can significantly contribute to increasing the reliability of bulk material supply to the production process. Because of that, the analysis of portal scraper functionality and recognition of the main points of concern for its proper operation are presented in the paper as a base for the development of fully automated control solution. The time critical operations were identified and appropriate algorithms were developed for the reduction of time spent in unproductive motion.

Abstract Background Functional electrical stimulation (FES) applied via transcutaneous electrodes is a common rehabilitation technique for assisting grasp in patients with central nervous system lesions. To improve the stimulation effectiveness of conventional FES, we introduce multi-pad electrodes and a new stimulation paradigm. Methods The new FES system comprises an electrode composed of small pads that can be activated individually. This electrode allows the targeting of motoneurons that activate synergistic muscles and produce a functional movement. The new stimulation paradigm allows asynchronous activation of motoneurons and provides controlled spatial distribution of the electrical charge that is delivered to the motoneurons. We developed an automated technique for the determination of the preferred electrode based on a cost function that considers the required movement of the fingers and the stabilization of the wrist joint. The data used within the cost function come from a sensorized garment that is easy to implement and does not require calibration. The design of the system also includes the possibility for fine-tuning and adaptation with a manually controllable interface. Results The device was tested on three stroke patients. The results show that the multi-pad electrodes provide the desired level of selectivity and can be used for generating a functional grasp. The results also show that the procedure, when performed on a specific user, results in the preferred electrode configuration characteristics for that patient. The findings from this study are of importance for the application of transcutaneous stimulation in the clinical and home environments.
